In this conversation, Minnesota Tim discusses the Minnesota Vikings' impressive start to the NFL season, focusing on their undefeated record and the hot takes surrounding the team. He specifically critiques a controversial take by Judd Zulgad from Purple Daily regarding the potential quarterback change to J.J. McCarthy, arguing that it would be unfair to both McCarthy and current quarterback Sam Darnold. Tim emphasizes the importance of context in evaluating such takes and the implications of quarterback decisions on team dynamics.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
The takes are flowing.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
After the Minnesota Vikings defeated the New York Jets and
advanced to five and zero, only two undefeated teams are
left in the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs and your
Minnesota Vikings. How many people had that predicted at this

point in time. While you're here, hit that subscribe button

be discussing a hot take from Judd Zolgad on the

(00:53):
score North Purple Daily channel. I love what Purple Daily does.
Their content is incredible, their consistency is amazing, and their
follower slash fan.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Base is awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Because he'd take a look at what they do on
a regular basis, and he'd especially take a look at
their numbers following a Minnesota Vikings win or loss, and
their watches view subscribers count after a game is skyrocketing.

(01:29):
Every single Sunday if they got like fifty something thousand
views by people calling in and doing that thing, So
they did an incredible job. And the day after games
they always share their hottest Minnesota Vikings take, and Judd
Zolgad comes with the craziest Minnesota Vikings hot take I

(01:53):
think I've ever seen.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
If he hadn't started the season, JJ McCarthy would be
this team starting quarter against the Detroit Lions in their
next game. JJ McCarthy would replace Sam Dark.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
What that's my hot take?

Speaker 2 (02:09):
You're saying if he if he was healthy right now
and just the backup, they.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Would make the bye week change. And here here's why.
Sam Donald has played to his credit, he's been great.
But you know what, Kevin O'Connell has taken this car.
He has stressed this car to its limits, to its limits,
and against the good defense on Sunday in the Jets,
we saw the car start to rattle, shake, rattle and roll.

(02:36):
Kevin O'Connell is not going to change the way that
he wants to call games. That's becoming very clear. He
is as we talked about last week after the Packers game.
He is all gas and no breaks. And he has
taken Donald as far as you can take him against
good teams, which, by the way, the more the season
develops and if you get to the playoffs, you're going
to be playing really good teams, i e. Good defenses.

(02:57):
JJ McCarthy. I've told you this from to get Go
and Phil you saw this in practice too. He's got
an if factor about him, he's got a confidence about him.
He has an ability that I think Kevin O'Connell could
have used to take that next step. Kevin O'Connell would
have switched to JJ McCarthy at the.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Buy Judd is a very impressive media outlet that follows
the Minnesota Vikings. He's at every single practice, he's always
asking Kevin O'Connell questions at his press conferences, and he's
a viable guy.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
But there's a couple of problems with this take.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
One, the segment is called Vikings Hot Takes after their
Week five win. So what they are doing is coming
with the hottest takes that they think are somewhat fathomable.
Doesn't necessarily mean that they believe it. You just got
to come up with a hot take. Well, let's get
to move the needle. JJ McCarthy starting week five or

(04:04):
week six or week seven, after the bye week, whatever
it is. So that's one issue with it. And the
second issue is if you're gonna there's there's there's a
reason why I personally don't say bold predictions coming up
for the Minnesota Vikings twenty twenty four twenty twenty five season.
I'm not calling and call it a bold prediction. I'm
just gonna call it a prediction.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
The reason why I don't call it a bold prediction
is because I feel like there's a big caveat there
when you say bold prediction, there's a caveat that says,
you know what, it's a bald prediction. So I don't
really believe it, but it's bold, so like it sounds sexy.
It kind of gives you an ount. Plus, this is
an now too, JJ McCarthy. It's a great take by

(04:47):
jud because he can't be proven wrong.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
It's one of those takes where.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
It's like, well, the Minnesota Vikings would have won the
Super Bowl in twenty ten if Brett forvdon get injured
or Sittney Right didn't get injured. It's like, Okay, you
can you can spit off that take all you want,
but you can't be proven writing.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
You can't be proven wrong. So I'm just gonna go
out and say it. It's one of those things the.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Minnesota Timberwolves would have won the title last year if
Karl Anthony Towns didn't hurt his knee in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Okay, prove me wrong. Well you can't.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
That's the beauty of those kind of takes. But in
all seriousness, not that I wasn't being serious before, but
Judd zolgad and this take is unfair to j. J
McCarthy because what I could not imagine a more terrible

(05:49):
situation to throw your rookie quarterback into your team is
five and zero. Sam Darnold is still second in touchdown
passes for the NFL season, despite his struggles against the Jets. Now,
Judd is right, you can only take Sam Donald so far,
but when that ship starts sinking, that's when you replace

(06:13):
him with JJ McCarthy. You don't take a five and
zero Sam Donald, who has a good rhythm for four
to the five weeks of this season, is top five
and MVP standings has the Minnesota Vikings defeating.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Super Bowl favorites.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Has eleven touchdowns, three interceptions entering Week five, has one
bad game, and then you put in your rookie quarterback.
Could you imagine the amount of pressure and the amount of.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Hate Kevin O'Connell.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Would receive if JJ McCarthy goes out there and stakes
for two or three games, Because now you're comparing JAJ
McCarthy to Sam Donald in the first five weeks of
the season. You're not comparing JJ McCarthy to the Sam
Donald with the Jets or the Panthers. You're comparing JJ

(07:14):
McCarthy to five and oh Sam Donald. And this is
a massive.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Switch.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
And the Minnesota Vikings are riding a lot of momentum.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Or five and oh they got a perfect record.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
If the Vikings were two and three, if they were
three and two, and Donald just didn't look right for
multiple games in a row, even if there were four
and one and Donald was hot, garbage like four touchdowns,
eight picks, But somehow the Vikings defense scored a bunch
of touchdowns to win these games.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Well, that's one thing. But Donald is.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Playing out of his mind throughout ninety percent of this season,
eighty percent of the season. Four games out of five,
four out of five is eighty percent. So you don't
take out Sam Donald right now. And I'm gonna go
back to what I said earlier. It's a hot take.
It's designed to be hot take. It's designed to be spicy,

(08:16):
and it gets lots of us lots of watches. I
think they do a great job. But you got to
also understand the intent of this take. Maybe he believes it,
maybe he doesn't, but it's a hot take segment. So
if it's a thought, well let's just make it a
hot take and he can't be proven wrong. But there
is no way j J McCarthy would replace Sam Donald

(08:40):
right now because it would be unfair to the development
of JJ McCarthy and unfair to Sam Donald, a guy
that has led the And I shouldn't be careful about
using the word unfair because that sounds very babyish.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Oh it's unfair.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Okay, it's the National Football League's let's not be ridiculous here.
But it would not be good for the development of
JJ McCarthy to all of a sudden make a switch
after Donald has this train rolling. If Donald goes out
there plays terrible against the Lions and the Vikings get destroyed,

(09:19):
that's one thing to replace him with JJ McCarthy. If
he goes out there and plays terrible against the Lions
and then has another bad half against the next team,
well then that's another thing to put JJ McCarthy in
at halftime, But not right now, not when.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
This train is moving full force.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Not when Sam Donald, even though he performed worse than
he has against the Jets, still led a massive field
goal drive to put the Minnesota Vikings up six and
to give the Minnesota Vikings defense a chance to seal
the deal by intercepting Aaron Rodgers. So as bad as

(10:03):
he was, he was good in moments. So I disagree
with the take, and I think it's a hot take,
so I think it's designed to be disagreeable.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
But Judd does a phenomenal job, so does Purple Daily.
I just had to react to it.
