Speaker 1 (00:07):
Is there anybody more entertaining than ESPN's Pat McAfee, because
he's got his daily show from like noon to two,
noon to three something like that, and then he's on
college game Day in the morning, or he's got people
kicking field goals for one thousands and thousands of dollars.
(00:27):
He is everywhere. He's electric, and he pays the Minnesota
Vikings their respects.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
It's from stage at sports Stage one oh one. Shout
out to you falling along hashtag. I don't want to react,
but I'm tired of seeing him no coverage of the
five to zero Minnesota Vikings. He turned on Get Up,
It's all about the Cowboys or Ravens for two hours.
When is this team going to get some respect? Hey,
Minnesota Vikings, congrats on being fire. Koc will be owning
(01:00):
our program tomorrow in the two o'clock Eastern no or
obviously friend of the program. What they're doing and how
they're doing it. I'm excited to shout chat with him
about that defense shutting it downth that defense shutting it down.
Now Aaron obviously leading on a potential touchdown to win
the game against you know that Minnesota Vikings team in
England after starting out incredibly right, three interceptions against one defense,
(01:22):
obviously one being the game ceiling from Stefan Gilmour down
the sideline. But whenever you think about this Vikings team,
Van Ginkey is just a menace. Everybody on Sunday Night
Football that was talking about a football night in America
was like, he knew the call for double slants, seemingly
so as soon as he heard it, he just dropped
back and then knew it was coming. So that had
to be some sort of information from Flores from the
(01:45):
Vikings or they were just assuming that was the case
because how effortless he made it. Nonetheless, Flores's defense has
been making people look bad all year. Kos's offense with
Sam Darnold is obviously something that is very very effective
and special teams wise, they got guys. It's like, are
the Vikings, and we've talked about being a wagon here
(02:05):
for the last few weeks, are the Vikings actually built
to go on a true run as opposed to just
being this splashing the paying funk they are?
Speaker 3 (02:12):
I think, yeah, it feels like they are. In one
of the interviews during the game, one that I've actually
enjoyed was koc and he said Ben Gigge did that
twice in practice this week. Now he blew the whistle
so that he couldn't do the return, so they were
ready for that all week. Flores has been unbelievable. KOs
can scheme open anybody. I mean the one play Mullins
comes in, he looks incredible as soon as he.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Was, like a thirty one yeard ball or some twenty
five yeard ball down the sideline. Mullins one play, one
completion back to the sideline. Let's go and talk about
that in the meeting tomorrow, saying back on the field,
it's uh fascinating.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Jones is healthy.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Yeah, for sure, he got to be healthy, but went
in different ways Like Sam Donald didn't you know, light
it up by any means. Defense always plays great. Only
team to beat Houston so far this year. So no
glad Oh no, yeah, So I mean they're obviously rolling.
I think they are built to make the loan.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
I was gonna say, I liked Sam through an interception,
Rogers comes down and scores, and then Sam the first
play of that next drive just ripped on like thirty
yards down the scene like he didn't like it. There
was no hesitation, like he came back and just kept
doing what Like he's confident right now.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
I like when teams answer yeah, you know yeah. I
like whenever team's answer and the fourth I think that
tells you a lot about the team because you can't
like get game winning drive moments or like last second
moments all the time, but you can get a team
that can sense like, oh, if we don't respond here,
this could go a different direction, and then when they answer,
it's like okay. In the Minnesota Vikings after a year
without the football gods, yes has me feeling pretty good,
(03:36):
especially with JJ McCarthy's injury announcement, losing Kirk Cousins now
that Aaron Jones injury, will see Congressenal Vikings a jay,
do they run the NFC North? Congratsena Vikings. I don't
know if they can say they'd run the NFC North yet,
but I get him a ton of credit. Man, they're legit.
I love their defense and I'm you know, it's it's
actually fun to watch Sam Dartle and see him see
what he's doing.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
So we had to review Pat McAfee and his shows
comments on the Minnesota Vikings because they're entertaining, and they
have good thoughts. You know, they've said something that I've
said quite frequently so far this offseason. In this season,
one of my biggest concerns entering this season was the
(04:16):
Minnesota Vikings ability to close out close games because you
look around the league, and you look around at quarterbacks
in this league, the top quarterbacks in this league, and
we've seen Lamar Jackson fill a couple of times in
close games. Joe Burrows lost several close games when they've
needed to score and to put together a drive. Sure,
(04:38):
the guy missed a fifty two yardfield goal, but getting
closer than a fifty two yardfield goal. And you see
quarterbacks all the time struggle in late game situations. Aaron
Rodgers is another great example of this. And to put
the ball into Sam Darnold's hands late in the game
in a close game, how am I supposed to trust
that when the best quarterbacks in the league struggle at
(04:59):
this well, Sam Donald has now put together a drive
that has protected the Minnesota Vikings lead for three times
this season. He did it against the Niners without Justin Jefferson,
without Jordan Andison, without t. J. Hawkinson. He's making throws
(05:20):
to Jalen Naylor and Brandon Powell when the Vikings are
up twenty to fourteen on third downs, got a field goal,
practically sealed the game. Same thing against the Green Bay Packers,
Minnesota Vikings, all the momentum is turning towards the Packers.
They got it down to six points after the Vikings
(05:40):
had a twenty eight zero lead. Sam Donald needs to
go out there, lead another drive. He does it, gets
another field goal, Minnesota Vikings practically seal it. And he
does the same thing against the New York Jets. So
Sam Donald is three for three and must have drives
for the minnesot To Vikings this season, which I think
(06:02):
is different than what the Minnesota Vikings were doing in
Kirk Cousins as second to last year. The Vikings were
winning all those close games. There were all these comeback
moments from Kirk Cousins. It was not replicate It was
not something that you could replicate during another season, like
the win against Buffalo just as an example. They were
(06:25):
winning all these close games, but it just seemed like
this just doesn't quite seem right. It doesn't seem like
you can duplicate this for another season and sure enough,
they couldn't because winning all those close games is crazy.
But what we've seen this season. We see a blowout
against the Giants, we see a blowout against the Texans,
(06:46):
but what we have seen against the Niners, Packers, and
Jets is a game winning drive or a game ceiling drive.
Rather when the Minnesota Vikings already have the lead. Sam
Darnold has not yet been asked to lead a game
winning drive when the Minnesota Vikings are down three or
(07:08):
even tied to put the game away. He has been
asked to seal the game on a game winning ceiling drive,
and that's what he's done three times, which has just
been incredible coaching, incredible playmaking because those have been all
adverse situations. If he throws a pick there, the Vikings
(07:31):
could lose. If he fumbles, if if maybe he throws
an accurate balls, well then there's a good chance the
Minnesota Vikings lose any of those games. But he's shown
up when he's needed to. He's been mister clutch this season,
and I think that's been the most impressive part because
the Vikings aren't going to cream everybody. Sure, they had
(07:52):
a seventeen zero lead on the Jets that a twenty
eight zero lead on the Packers. They had all these
big leads, but other teams are gonna make adjustments. They're
going to figure out. The Vikings aren't gonna blow these
teams out forty six to zero. There's a team on
the other side of the field too, So when that
other team makes a run, as they are inevitably going
to do, Sam Donald responds and so did the Minnesota
(08:16):
Vikings defense when they needed to. So I just love
the response through adverse situations by the Minnesota Vikings. Now
they're on their bye week and then they face the
Detroit Lions at home coming out of that. So that's
the big game everyone's talking about. That's the one that
everyone's going to keep an eye on because are the
Minnesota Vikings for real? That's going to be a game
(08:37):
that proves a lot, and I'm sure the Minnesota Vikings
know that as well.
