Speaker 1 (00:06):
The Minnesota Vikings pommel the Atlanta Falcons forty two to
twenty one and advance to eleven and two during the
NFL regular season following a five touchdown performance by Sam Donald.
Sam Donald through five times more touchdown passes than Kirk

(00:31):
Cousins in this ballgame.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
And this isn't just some ordinary game for Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
This is a game that anybody would want to win
more badly than any other game besides a playoff game
or a Super Bowl. This is Kirk Cousins coming back
to Minnesota, splitting up with this former team because there
is more money elsewhere and the Vikings organization did not
offer him the money that he thought he deserved or
was worth, and throws zero touchdown passes and two interceptions,

(01:03):
Plus there is a drive there where he almost threw
another interception, like two or three times his arm got
hit by Mattellus if Teljas short of buying him. He
almost got picked off by Andrew Van Gigo for a
pick six. The Minnesota Vikings, specifically Sam Donald, Joshin, Jefferson,
Jordan Andison outplay Kirk Cousins and it wasn't even close.

(01:26):
Fourth quarter, the Vikings pull away forty two twenty one,
and there was a play in the third quarter when
Donald went deep to Jefferson. And I talked about this
last week on my podcast. I said, Sam Darnald can
do this one hundred times better than Kirk Cousins, and
that is keeping a play alive, being able to elude

(01:47):
defenders in the backfield, scrambled to his left or scrambled
to his right. When Kirk Cousins gets hit, he's like
Tom Braid in the backfield.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
He's brittle, he can't move, he just goes down.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
And the biggest play of the day Donald to Jefferson,
at least by the eye. I think maybe there's a
bigger play to Addison brace Don yardage, but the biggest,
you know, knockout, beautiful dagger of a play, Donald to
Jefferson happened because of what Donald can do in the pocket,
and that's his ability to elude defenders, something Kirk Cousins

(02:22):
cannot do. And let me just show you this screen
right here, Kirk Cousins spot track. Kirk Cousins signs a
four year, one hundred and eighty million dollar contract with
the Atlanta Falcons, including fifty million guaranteed at signing bonus
one hundred million guaranteed and an average annual salary of

(02:44):
forty five million. In twenty twenty four, Cousins will earn
a base salary of twelve million dollars and a signing
bonus of fifty million, while carrying a cap pit of
twenty five million and a dead cap value of ninety
million dollars. As far as I see it, the Atlanta

(03:04):
Falcons are stuck with Kirk Cousins, and maybe they'll move
off of him and you know, eat up but eighty
percent of his salary cap to trade him to somewhere
else so that Michael Pennock Junior can become the starting
quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons. But let me just said
this straight. This is not an anti Kirk Cousins podcast,

(03:26):
because if we were gonna do or make a decision,
we would all would have made the same decision Kirk
Cousins made. If you're going to play for the same company,
and that is the NFL, or any company that you
work for, and someone offered you five or six times
the amount of money someone else was offering you, you

(03:46):
would take that deal. So I get the blowing Kirk Cousins.
But let's not forget something we all would have done
the same thing Kirk Cousins did. He took the money,
something we all would have done. Okay, Kirk Cousins got
one hundred million guaranteed the amount of guaranteed money he
got from the Vikings, and his offer was nowhere near
that Vikings offered like a two year deal. Now amount

(04:10):
of Falcons offered a four year deal up to one
hundred and eighty million dollars. What are you gonna take.
You're gonna take the money. So don't blame Kirk Cousins
for taking the money. But this is more about applauding
the Minnesota Vikings organization for taking a step of faith
and moving off of him something not every organization would do,

(04:30):
taking a risk, and trusting Sam Donald as.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
QB one, drafting.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
J. J. McCarthy to be that bridge guy the following year,
because like it or not, Donald was always going to
be QB one this year. I said it, PA said
it on my podcast, and just to talk about this
game a little bit more, I think Kevin O'Connell purposely
was giving the needle to Kirk Cousins in this ball game.

(04:59):
I don't think it's I happen chance that Donald has
his career game, best game as a Minnesota Viking, best
game of the year against Kirk Cousins. I think Kevin
O'Connell did that on purpose, and he's a human being
just like we all are. So the fact that he's
going to light up Kirk Cousins with a five touchdown

(05:20):
day from Sam Donald was purposeful.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
And not only does Cousins play poorly.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
He throw up a couple of yards a class at
Kirk Cousins game where he throws for almost three and
fifty yards, zero touchdowns, two picks. He was not good
and Raheem Morris was asked after the game about Cousins' future,
but said he did not consider replacing him with Pennix
in the fourth quarter. Kirk Cousins is our quarterback. He

(05:47):
played significantly better than last week. We're going to look
at everything to win, and Kirk is definitely a part
of that.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
That's a very.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Wishy washing comment that didn't really mean a whole lot
from Raheem Morris, Atlanta Falcons head coach, and just some
more touching points on the Minnesota Vikings offense and Sam Donald.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Sam Donald was phenomenal. Will he win MVP? I don't know.
Should he be in the running for MVP?

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Absolutely, And I just said I don't know if he
went MVP. But the MVP is one of the worst
awards in the NBA and the NFL because it just
goes to the most popular player that is playing well
that season, Batan Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. And I'm sure
those players were deserving of it, But you throw out
Josh Allen's name, who hasn't won one yet? Who has

(06:34):
the Bills ten and two, maybe eleven and two after
they beat the Rams, if they beat the Rams, And
you look at Sam Donald, the eleven and two vikings,
twenty eight touchdowns, ten picks. You know, great year, phenomenally
a year. But who are they gonna give it to.
They're gonna give it to Josh Allen. It's a reputation award.
He's a top five quarterback in the league. He has
the Bills as one of the top teams in the NFC.

(06:54):
Of course they're gonna give it to Josh Allen. But
just to get a little spicy on this episode, and
now you look at the stats in this game and
Jordan Addison has eight catches for one hundred and thirty
three yards. Justin Jefferson has seven catches for one hundred
and thirty two yards, so very identical numbers. Addison has

(07:16):
three touchdowns, Jefferson has two touchdowns. What's amazing about that
is that Jefferson wasn't targeted until like four minutes left
in the second quarter. That's when he got his first catch.
So all of those yards happened in practically two quarters
and touchdowns. But here's where it gets spicy.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Earlier in the year.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Sam Darnold had tunnel vision towards Justin Jefferson, and rightfully
so to some degree, Jefferson is the best wide receiver
in football.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
He commands every single.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
NFL defense that goes against the Minnesota Vikings to shift
two or three players over to him on every single play,
and he makes unreal catches.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
But when Sam Donald was.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Tunnel visioning Justin Jefferson, he was struggling because defenses send
three guys at Jefferson on almost every single play, so
you need to spread the ball around. And when there's
three guys looking towards Jefferson, Addison, Hockinson, Naylor, those.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Guys got one on one coverage.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
And what we are seeing now, and this is why
we've seen a trajectory shift from Donald. He was locking
in on Jefferson. Jefferson says, throwing the ball out and trust.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Me, do your thing.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
But now we're seeing a Sam Donald that's seeing the
entire field, and when he targets Jordan Addison more the
Minnesota Vikings offense is actually better. You know, you might
think that's backwards. It's like, oh, he got target Jeffson.
He's the best rider of super foot when he drives
three defenders and Addison is one on one. He's a
wide receiver one on a playing a wide receiver two role.

(08:59):
And what we saw this game was Donald tossing it
up to Addison, tossing it up to Addison, tossing it
up to Addison one on one, and Addison was making plays.
So the more the Minnesota Vikings and Sam Donald target Addison,
the more dominant the.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Minnesota Vikings offense is going to be.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
So it's it's not that difficult to understand because you
throw it to Jefferson and there's two or three guys
lurking around him at all times.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Well, throw the ball.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
To Addison, and that's the shift we've seen from Sam Donald,
most likely because of the coaching from Kevin O'Connell.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
So it's cool. It's cool. And Kevin o'conno was asked following.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
This game, he was asked the usually this is a
tweet from Kevin Seaffert, who is a Vikings reporter for.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
ESPN, says the usual, chatti.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Kevin O'Connell smiled and offered a one word answer when
Ben Gessling if today makes him feel validated for this
year's QB transition from Kirk Cousin to Sam Donald, and
he says no, one word answer, no, which means yes.
Kevin O'Connell is the least headline podium head coach the

(10:18):
NFL maybe has ever seen. So of course he's never
gonna say anything like that. But you know who got
the game ball after that game? Sam Donald, Probably Byron
Murphy when that video comes out of Kevin O'Connell giving
away the game balls, Sam Donald got a game ball
his greatest career game ever. And here's a tweet that

(10:40):
really puts things into perspective. It comes from Mark Craig.
Last four games, Sam Donald eleven touchdown zero picks. Kirk Cousins,
zero touchdowns, eight interceptions. That's rookie numbers. That's what we
were seeing. Nicks and Caleb Williams knew earlier in the year.

(11:02):
Zero touchdowns last four games. And you're a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
That's embarrassingly bad. The ball is in your hands on
every single play.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Kirk Cousins threw the ball thirty seven times against the Vikings,
zero touchdowns. Who knows what he did the prior weeks.
He threw four picks against the Chargers alone. Zero touchdowns
the last four weeks.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
That is bad.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
And the Minnesota Vikings made the right decision in switching
from Donald, switching from Cousins to Donald, and you know,
the conversation has shifted towards Oh the Vikings resigned Donald,
and the answer is no.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
The answer is no.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
They have no chance because Donald's agent is licking his
chops right now, and so is Sam Darnald. This is
the one time in his career where he can splash
with some team in the NFL that thinks that they
can recreate what he did in Minnesota. They probably can't
because of Kevin O'Connell and Justin Jefferson and Addison but
they think they can because they are prideful and they

(12:13):
got massive egos. So he's gonna splash somewhere else. And
good for Sam Donald.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
He should. He's bounced around, finally found a home.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
And I was gonna find another home because he finally
deserved his big contract and this is generational wealth. He's
not gonna sign a two year deal with Minnesota because
you know what's gonna happen. If he has one bad
year on the Vikings, kiss ninety million dollars goodbye. It's
not gonna happen. He's gonna sign with the Raiders or

(12:44):
the Giants, and you know what. Adam Schefter earlier today
reported that the Minnesota Vikings and Sam Donald are not
even having contract negotiation talk right now because the Vikings
know it and Sam Darnald knows it. There is no
reunion next and you know what, no one needs to
be better about it because this is a completely different

(13:04):
situation than Kirk Cousins. Sam Donald was a rental for
one year. The Vikings want to move on to Jaj McCarthy,
and Sam Donald wants to splash big somewhere else. Sam
Donald after the game, it was a fun time in
there today, our fans came in and ready to roll.

(13:27):
You know, Sam Donald and the Minnesota Vikings organization are
just having a blast like this is this is awesome,
This is great. And the Vikings are eleven and two,
one game behind the Detroit Lions, two games ahead of.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
The Green Bay Packers.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
So this is huge for the Minnesota Vikings moving forward
because now they got space from the Packers and they
want they beat the Lions and week but last week
of the season, then they have a chance to win
division and not only the division, but a bye week
two to clinch the first overall seed as playoff contenders.

(14:11):
And just one more thing, this doesn't relate to Sam Darnold,
but just one more rant following the game, I don't
understand why more kickers in the NFL don't force the
opposing team to return the football on kickoffs. You kick

(14:31):
it into the end zone, team's gonna take the free
gift of the thirty yard line. I mean, how many
times the Atlanta Falcons kick it short and the Vikings
were forced to started like the twenty five And I
get you risk the possibility of a guy taking it
to the house or taking it to the forty or
fifty or somewhere into your territory. But what are the
likely chances of that happening more times than not? And

(14:53):
it's not even close. You're gonna tackle the guy like
the twenty five maybe twenty yard line. So Minnesota Vikings
kick it short, maybe not on purpose, the guy fumbles
the ball, and the Minnesota Vikings recover, they go up
by fourteen points. You put the ball in play, you
make something happen. You put the ball at the thirty

(15:14):
yard line. You didn't only need like twenty five yards
until you're in a field goal range, so you put
the ball at the thirty. That's a massive advantage for
any offense in the NFL. So this idea that you
should kick it off into the end zone and let
them neil.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
I don't understand that strategy one bit.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
So applaud the Minnesota Vikings for maybe making a correction
or maybe it was a bad kick or or whatever
it was. But I want to see that going forward.
I want to see the Minnesota Vikings kick it short,
let the guy return it, and see if you can
tackle him before the thirty instead of just giving him
a free thirty yards.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Goodness, gracious, goodness, gracious.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
Anyways, Sam Darland on his passionate sideline celebration on the fourth.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Quarter, I just felt the bus.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
It was buzzin' five touchdown passes, Kirk Cousins zero touchdown passes.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
What a game.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Sam Donald outplays Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings dominate
the Falcons.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Forty two, twenty one, eleven and two. Wow.
