Speaker 1 (00:06):
It's a big game for the soon to be world
champion Minnesota Vikings against the Seattle Seahawks this week. A

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Hit that light button down there as well.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
All right, as far as this preview goes, the Minnesota
Vikings face the Seattle Seahawks on.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
The road once again.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
It seems like it happens every single year where they
face the Seahawks on the road.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
For years, it felt like.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Russell Wilson on the road, Russell Wilson on the road,
Russell Wilson on the road, and coming into this podcast,
I did not want to.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Assume that was the case.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
So what I did is I actually did some research
in preparing for this show, because in everybody's mind, including mine,
the Minnesota Vikings always faced the Seattle Seahawks on the road.
Let's just take a look at the history since two
thousand and six, Minnesota Vikings Seattle Seahawks on the road.

(01:13):
Two thousand and nine, they faced off once again. Three
years later. That one was in Minnesota twenty twelve, that
one's at Seattle twenty thirteen, at Seattle twenty fifteen at
Minnesota two thy sixteen at Minnesota, twenty eighteen at Seattle,

(01:39):
twenty nineteen at Seattle, twenty twenty at Seattle, and actually
the last matchup between these two teams. It might be
really hard for you to remember this, because I don't
remember this. I'll the only thing that I remember is
the Minnesota Vikings facing the Seattle Ehawks twenty times in

(02:01):
the last twenty years, and every single one of those
games being at Seattle, but the most recent one September
twenty six, twenty twenty one, my dad's birthday.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
They actually played at.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Minnesota, so it is not as one sided as most
of us remember. I think all of us have a
little PTSD syndrome of Minnesota Vikings going to Seattle, Russell
Wilson carving us up, and the Minnesota Vikings losing a

(02:37):
big important game mid season.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
That's what I remember.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
But facts are facts, and it is a myth that
the Minnesota Vikings always play Seattle at Seattle might be
hard to believe, but I just showed you the facts,
and I just shared with you the facts. All Right,
As far as this preview goes, this is a big

(03:02):
game for both teams. The Minnesota Vikings control their own destiny.
The Detroit Lions also control their own destiny. So it's
so funny how everyone wants to paint the Minnesota Vikings
as this unique NFC North team or unique team in
the NFC in general, as Oh, they control their own destiny. Oh,

(03:24):
they can be the number one seed if they control
their own well, the Detroit Lions also control their own
destiny if they win out there the number one seed.
It ultimately comes down to these final last three weeks
of the season. If the Lions beat the Bears and
forty nine Ers, and the Vikings beat the Seahawks and

(03:45):
the Packers, it will come down to the final week
of the season, which I'm sure will get flex to
a Sunday night game between the Lions and Vikings, which
will be for the NFC crown, and it will be
most likely for that number one seed because based on
strength of schedule, the Vikings would get the number one

(04:06):
seed over the Eagles according to people that have done
that research, not me, but looking at this game, the
Seahawks are tied in the division with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Los Angeles Rams have come out of nowhere and
become the biggest threat in the NFC West. They're both
eight and six, but the Rams have the tiebreaker right now.

(04:28):
So in all honesty, this is a must win game
for the Seattle Seahawks because down the stretch they have Minnesota,
they have at Chicago next week, and then they have
at Los Angeles probably for the division in that final
week of the season.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
So the Seahawks they're in must win territory.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
And just to take a look at how the Seahawks
have been performing recently, they've been doing pretty good.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Besides last week.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Last week Gino got hurt, Sam Howe had to come
in and they got absolutely smacked around by the Green
Bay Packers. They lost thirty to thirteen. But before that,
they beat Arizona on the road thirty to eighteen. They
beat the Jets on the road twenty six to twenty one.
They beat the Cardinals at home sixteen to six. They

(05:18):
beat San fran on the road twenty to seventeen. So
you know, they lost last week against the Packers, but
prior to that, they were four to zero in their
last four games. And Seattle has a good football team,
and you can start to see trends in how their
team performs. They rely heavily on a strong defensive effort.

(05:41):
You look at you know they beat Denver at home
for the first game of the season, only gave up
twenty beat New England on the road, only gave up
twenty in against Miami. In Miami, they only gave up
three to a probably hurt to a tongue of Bay Loa.
You have a forty two to the Lions, twenty nine
to the Giants, thirty six to San Frana. A tough

(06:02):
stretch there, but then they bounce back strong, only fourteen
against Atlanta, give up thirty one to Buffalo, twenty six
to Los Angeles. But the last few weeks, their defense,
besides the Packers game, has been performing at a strong level.
It's been a little inconsistent this season, but you know
that when they play well, they hardly give up any

(06:24):
points and they leave a lot of room for the
offense to score. Now you look at what they've done
against playoff caliber teams this season. Bills I gave up
thirty one points. You look at the Lions give up
forty two points. Green Bay Packers gave up thirty points

(06:44):
against the top teams in the AFC and NFC they've struggled.
So the Minnesota Vikings, because they are a top team
in the NFC, they should be able to put up
good points against the Sattle Seahawks defense that has really
fled against bad teams and has been pretty terrible against

(07:06):
the top echelon teams in the NFL. Now it looks
like Geno Smith was a full participant in practice just recently,
So that's good news for the Seahawks and it means
that the Minnesota Vikings will likely get a healthy Geno
Smith prior to this football game. And you know that Gino,

(07:27):
at this point in the season and must win territory,
is going to try to do everything possible in his
power to play in this football game. So he's gonna play.
And he was a full participant, so he is going
to play. One of the things to look at in
this game is the battle in the trenches, And this

(07:47):
is one of my favorite things to discuss because trenches
so many times dictate outcomes in football games. And I
love this note on Vikings dot com. It says, according
to NGS, Smith has faced quick pressure on eighteen point
nine percent of dropbacks. The highest mark among qualified quarterbacks.

(08:07):
Hot flashes have resulted in Smith being sacked the third
most times forty three, behind Caleb Williams fifty eight and
c J.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Stroud forty five.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
We feel obligated to mention that Darnold has also suffered
forty two sacks. Smith is one of four players in
twenty twenty four to endure multiple games of seven plus sacks.
He was sacked that many times and losses to the
Rams and Giants. Also on that list are Williams, will Levis,
and Deshaun Watson. So that tells me that the highly

(08:41):
successful defensive line on the Minnesota Vikings should be able
to get pressure and apply pressure against Geno Smith. Now,
it doesn't necessarily mean that's going to happen against the
Los Angeles Rams. Earlier on in the season, Sean McVeigh
out schemed the Minnesota Vikings defense and had quick play

(09:01):
and quick play here, quick play there. So the Vikings
defense could not even get after Matthew Stafford, despite the
Rams having three new offensive linemen for that week. That
was one of my touching points. But they still won,
and they still scored thirty on the Vikings. The key
is going to be the Minnesota Vikings defense applying quick
pressure on Gino Smith. And if the Seattle Seahawks make

(09:26):
quick tweaks and changes and adjustments and have quick play
as quick passes, well, then the Minnesota Vikings defense needs
to adjust to that and not apply as much pressure
in this football game. Another note on Vikings dot com,
Jonathan Greener has eleven sacks, not to mention four forced fumbles,

(09:46):
trailing Pittsburgh's TJ Watt six for most punchouts in the league.
Andrew van Ginkel has nine sacks, Patrick Jones has seven,
and four other Vikings have two plus sacks.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
And it says here the.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Vikings defense it is dictating terms by hurrying quarterbacks quite literally,
It's sixty hurries on the year is the NFL's high
water mark and doing it via a sky high blitz frequency.
Minnesota's thirty eight point nine blitz percentage on dropbacks is
five point five percent higher than the number two team
in Kansas City. And last note, as for Seattle, it's

(10:22):
thirty two sacks sit on the bottom half of the NFL.
I've but don't confuse that figure with failure to rush
the pass rusher. The Seahawks defense is tied for ninth
in total pressures one hundred and twenty nine and tied
for sixth and percent of quarterback knockdowns per passe attempt.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
They affect the quarterback greatly.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
So going into this game, the trenches are going to
be a big part of it, and the statistics I
just read confirmed what I was already talking about. The
Minnesota Vikings defense needs to be prepared to make adjustments
if the Seattle Seahawks pull the Los Angeles Rams and
go to the quick passing route and get the ball

(11:01):
quick and do these different kind of pass plays so
that it really combats the Minnesota Vikings pass rush.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
So those are my main talking points.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
As far as a prediction goes, I think this is
a close game from beginning to end. The Minnesota Vikings
do come out with a win, I will say it
is twenty seven to twenty one. The Minnesota Vikings defeat
the Seattle Seahawks on the road in Seattle and advance

(11:36):
to thirteen and two on the NFL season, just like
everybody predicted before the season began. All Right, everyone, thank
