one hundred percent honest, one hundred percent of the time,
regardless of how you or I feel. Okay, So a
story I wanted to talk about today, the Minnesota Vikings
(00:51):
rebuild plan. The Philadelphia Eagles just won the Super Bowl,
as we all know, and Jordan Schultz, a Fox Sports
NFL insider, shared a fascinating graphic from Fox on where
(01:13):
the Philadelphia Eagles players and the Kansas City Chiefs players
came from. Tak a look at this. I'll share it
on my screen and I'll describe it best for my
listening audience. So it goes down the line of the
offensive starters for the Chiefs and the Eagles, and it
(01:34):
shares whether or not they were drafted or whether or
not they were signed via free agency. Jalen Hurts drafted,
Saquon Barkley free agency, aj Brown trade, Davonte Smith drafted,
Johann Dotson free agency or trade, Dallas Goddard draft, Jordan
(01:56):
Malata draft, Landon Dickinson, draft, Cam Jurgens, Mackay Beckton, Jets,
Lane Johnson draft so one two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine,
ten eleven. Out of the eleven players that started for
the Philadelphia Eagles offensively, seven of their players were drafted,
(02:22):
and four of them were from free agency or trade.
Take a look at the Chiefs eleven players. Mahomes drafted,
Isaiah Pacheco drafted, DeAndre Hopkins, trade, David Worthy drafted, Hollywood
Brown trader, free agency, Travis Kelsey drafted Joe Thuney, Patriots
(02:44):
drafted her trade, Mike kellyando draft, create A Humphrey draft,
Trey Smith draft Juwan Taylor from the Jaguars. So similar story.
Seven of the eleven Chiefs offensive starters in the Super
Bowl we're drafted. Now, the problem that we have seen
(03:10):
from the Minnesota Vikings is the players that are on
the Minnesota Vikings, the top end guys Jefferson was drafted,
Jordan Aison was drafted, Sam Darnold free agency, Aaron Jones
free agency, Christian Darrisaw was drafted, Garrett Bradbury is drafted,
(03:37):
Dalton Ryansner free agency, Blake Brandnele I don't know. Brian O'Neill,
I don't know either, But the point being is this,
In the last few drafts from Quescy, Adolfo's selections have
(03:58):
not been hardly at all effective players on the Minnesota
Vikings roster twenty twenty four Well McCarthy was hurt, Dallas
Turner limited reps, defensively, hardly played, hardly had any impact
on any game. Kyrie Jackson had the tragic passing which
(04:19):
there's nothing you can do about that. That was just terrible.
Walter Rouse never played, Will Richard sensational will the thrill
at the beginning of the year tapered off at the
end of the year, maybe due to an injury he sustained.
Michael Jerkins didn't play, Levi Drake Rodriguez didn't play. So
the impact from the twenty twenty four draft class was
(04:42):
very limited, some of it controllable and some of it not.
With a JJ McCarthy injury. But going forward, there's still
a hope that the twenty twenty four draft class can
make an impact. All right. Twenty twenty three Jordan Adison okay,
that was hit. McKay Blackman were unsure but has not
(05:04):
had much impact yet got injured going into his second season,
so it's hard. The the the uh, the questions are
still still need to be answered about him. We're not
sure I'll him. Jay Ward no impact, Jaklon Warroyd no impact,
Jaron haul down on the Vikings, Duyt McBride hardly any impact.
(05:28):
Twenty twenty two first overall pick, first round Lewis seen
thirty two number the number three and two overall pick,
Andrew Booth, ed Ingram Brian Ossamo I cut A can
leave Evans, as as the Atamawah Ty Chandler, but Arian Low,
Jalen Naylor, Nick Muse. Those are Questiadofo Mensaw's drafts and
(05:53):
the impact players in three years on the Minnesota Vikings
has been very limited, and that's being nice. The problem
the Minnesota Vikings have right now is that they're trying
to fill all their gaps via free agency, and that's
going to have to change. It needs the first change
(06:15):
with Jajon McCarthy because he is trending towards being the
QB one to start the twenty twenty four twenty twenty
five season. And if the Minnesota Vikings want to be
taken seriously as Super Bowl contenders, they need to start
(06:36):
drafting well so that they can plug those players into
starting lineups. And then you can sign guys in free
agency the big dollars. Then you can resign. You're justin
Jefferson's and Jordan Edison's and Jajon McCarthy's without having no
worry about who you're gonna let walk in free agency.
(06:57):
The drafts these last three years for the Minnesota Vikings
have been embarrassing. In twenty twenty two, only ty Chandler
Jalen Naylor have made any serious impact on the Minnesota Vikings,
and I'm being nice. Ty Chandler from the most part
(07:19):
has been a third string running back, and Jalen Naylor
has been hurt besides this past season, and he stepped
in well wide receiver three, made some nice catches, had
some big moments, but we're not talking about consistently making
(07:40):
an impact on the game. You can find other Jalen
Naylor's out there. Twenty twenty three. Out of the six
players drafted, only Jordan Andison has made any impact. Twenty
twenty four. Of these seven players drafted, McCarthy's hurt. Okay,
(08:03):
you get a pass on that one. Dallas Turner really
no impact. Will Reicher had an impact early on. Only
one player out of seven had any impact on this
past season for the Minnesota Vikings. So the past three years,
we're looking at a total of four players having any
(08:30):
sort of impact on the Minnesota Vikings field on the roster.
That's how embarrassingly bad the Minnesota Vikings drafts have been recently.
Twenty twenty one, before Quessey stepped in, this Monks have
(08:52):
been Rick Spielan's last year. Christian Darrisaw first round, Cam
by Him fourth round. There's two impact players. Patrick Jones
third round. He's an impact player, Kellen Bond twenty twenty,
Justin Jefferson first round. As here at Cleveland, second round.
(09:16):
He was an impact guy while he was here. Cam
Danzer no, James Lynch sort of man, not really. KG Osborne, Yeah, yeah,
he had some moments. Blake Brandle, Josh Mattellis, Rick Spielman
had right. Rick Spielman right now in the Minnesota Bekings
(09:37):
roster has more impact than Questiofo Mensai has had in
his three years as the Minnesota Bekings general manager, and
maybe that's why he has not received his contract extension yet.
Sure he's hit on Andrew Van Ginkel, Jonathan Greenard Blake Cashman,
(09:57):
but free agents aren't meant to who solidify your entire roster.
They're meant to fill in the gaps. You've got to
find stars in the draft that can hit, and then
you can have them on rookie contracts for four to
five years and then you bring it in a Van Ginkle,
(10:19):
a Jonathan Green and a Blake Gashman to fill in
the gaps. But you need to have impact players that
you draft. Rix Spielman's twenty twenty draft and twenty twenty
one draft has been much more impactful than anything Quesciandolfo
(10:43):
Mensa has done in the draft for the last three years.
And Rix Spielman made his fair share of mistakes. I
don't think anyone was disappointed when the Minnesota Vikings decided
to move on from him. He made some big mistakes.
Irvsmith Junior never panned out. Callen Man never panned out,
(11:05):
Jeff Gladding never panned out. There's some top guys that
didn't work for Rix Spielman, and he had this ongoing
beef with Mike Zimmer apparently than ever talked in the
locker room. But if we're comparing apples to apples, Rick
Spielman to Quessiodolfo Mensa, Rick Spielman still has more impact
(11:31):
on today's Minnesota Vikings roster than Quessey does. So that's
saying something and that needs to change if you're Quessey
and Kevin O'Connell, because you need to start finding your
own guys and putting those guys into the starting rotation
(11:52):
because soon you're not gonna be able to afford all
the guys that you want to pay for if you
can't put eyes on rookie contracts and led them planning
roster for four to five years. The Kansas City Chiefs
didn't want to pay tyreek Kill, so they traded him. Well,
they brought they found other guys to replace them as
(12:14):
they are worthy. They traded for the Andre Hopkins and
they made not work. So the Minnesota Vikings when that
day comes to pay Addison, which maybe they will or
will not do to pay McCarthy. They need to put
together rookie contracts that can play, or you're gonna run
(12:38):
into a problem and you're gonna be fired tomorrow. Breakfast
Ball Show on FS one. They do a good job.
And Craig Carton, I thought did a tremendous job with
this graphic. I'm gonna share it with you here says this.
It shows the Eagles players that they've paid Eagles and
(13:01):
Bengals players with fifty million dollar contracts. The Eagles pay
Jayalen have Fort two hundred and fifty five million, Antonio
Brown ninety six million, Landon Dickerson eighty four million, Lane
Johnson eighty million, Devonte Smith seventy five million, Jay Malatta
sixty six million, and Dallas Goddard fifty seven million dollars.
(13:22):
The Eagles pay a bunch of these guys, and these
are all most of the offensive players. So the highlight
of the Super Bowl, you know, the Eagles were up
thirty four zero, But what was their defensive impact? Cooper
(13:44):
dejen pick six touchdown. He's not a rookie deal, Jalen
Carter rookie deal. Some of their most impactful defensive players
are on rookie deals, and the way that they're and
the reason why they're so stacked right now is because
they pay their top guys and they're guys that are
(14:05):
becoming stars are on rookie contracts. They might not be
able to afford them in three to four years when
they want big contract extensions, but right now they can,
and in three to four years they'll have to draft
again to replace those guys. And Pete Bursich, the Minnesota
Vikings radio color commentator, shut a tweet the other day
(14:30):
he said, since twenty twenty, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman
has drafted twenty seven players, twenty four remain on the team.
That's half the roster. That's half the roster. When you
look at the Minnesota Vikings drafts, how many of them
(14:53):
remain on the team these last few years. Hardly any
of them. And if they are a the team, they're
second and third stringers that don't play a single down
of the football game. So the Minnesota Vikings need to
draft better, plain and simple, if they want to be
taken seriously as a Super Bowl contender, and that needs
(15:18):
to start this year. So that's my take for the day.
