Speaker 1 (00:07):
The little things are important. Just ask the Minnesota Timberwolves organization.
And there was some evidence that is troublesome from the
Minnesota Viking's latest hype video at OTAs revolving around JJ

(02:19):
The troublesome Minnesota Vikings hype video and it revolves around
Jajon McCarthy. The video surfaced on Tuesday night when Minnesota
sports fans were looking for something to thirst their eyes
on as the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to lose in
(02:41):
the Western Conference Finals for the second straight year, and
the Vikings posted this video. Good for them, and let's
just play the video first. I am very surprised the
(03:54):
Minnesota Vikings put a few throws in there from j
J McCarthy, because there were at least two throws that
were not great throws. One throw was behind Justin Jefferson
and he needed to turn and go up field and
another throw was a wide open Aaron Jones, and Aaron
(04:17):
Jones needed to leap two feet up in the air
just to get the football. Now, J J. McCarthy the
rap on him as he's an historically accurate quarterback, and
he is, and that's his greatest strength. But in this
video to all wide open wide receivers, did you see
(04:42):
the throws? And that was the first one that's behind
Justin Jefferson. That Justin Jefferson could not catch that ball
and turn up field as easily as he should have
been able to. And we're talking about wide open wide receivers.
(05:03):
We're talking about no defenses, no offensive lineman, no defensive lineman.
Every single number throw should be between the numbers. You
think about NBA players, Larry Bird one of the greatest
players of all time. Before he left the gym, his
(05:25):
job was to make like one hundred or two hundred
free throws in a row. If he missed, he had
to start all the way over. For his career, he
was about a ninety free throw shooter, which is still
really good. But the point that I'm making is that
(05:45):
if you are not excelling in practice when it's not
game time top echelon levels. Then there is really a
concern there because you look at the NBA. For example,
(06:07):
Anthony Edwards the Timberwolves posted a video of him making
like thirteen straight threes before the Warriors. In the game.
He's not making thirteen straight threes because it's practice. It's casual.
You're supposed to make all these open shots. And it's
similar to McCarthy. In practice, when there's no defense, you
(06:29):
need to be spectacular because in game you're not going
to be as spectacular. The pressure, the timing, the physicality,
the defense. How you play in practice matters because you
never play as great in game as you do in practice.
There's a little bit of a decrease there. So that
(06:51):
was the first throw, and then a few seconds later,
Jaj McCarthy made this throw to Aaron Jones, Like, what
is that? The dude's wide open? Why does Aaron Jones
need to extend himself near the pylon and make an
(07:12):
extra effort to catch the football. If this was an
in game throw, Jaj McCarthy would have thrown incomplete paths
because a defender would have broken it up and he
would have put Aaron Jones in an opportunity. That's kind
of dangerous. He left his running back hanging out to
(07:33):
dry in the little details manner. Everyone's gonna laugh at
this video and say, Oh, this guy's an idiot, this
guy's a moron. How you play in practice manners, Because
when you're practicing, when there's no defense, you should be
one hundred percent from the field. And it's the same
(07:54):
thing in basketball when you're open shooting threes, shooting free throws,
if you're not knocking down eighty to ninety percent of
those shots, that's a problem. Stephan Curry sometimes makes forty
five threes in a row wide open in the game.
He doesn't make forty five threes in a row because
there's a defense, there's challenges. And there is a story
(08:16):
that I remember last year talking about in the Otias
his rookie season, and this came from Kevin Seffert, the
ESPN insider for the Vikings, and it says this, there
are no indications that the Vikings were looking to test
McCarthy in a one v one situation this spring. McCarthy's
throws have plenty of juice, And then those throws looked
(08:39):
like they had plenty of juice. But have not always
been accurate. During a red zone drill Wednesday, he had
three consecutive passes hit the ground. So this is not
the first time that we've seen an inaccurate Jason McCarthy.
(09:00):
Seafort continues that's nothing to be concerned about, especially because
other passes were right on the money, But after years
of watching Kirk Cousins as precision throws, the lack of
consistency has been noticeable. Overall. However, the best way to
describe McCarthy this spring is with one word rookie. And
obviously there's a room for him to grow with his
(09:22):
accuracy and with either things like that, but there's not
much time because he is QB one right now and
the Minnesota Vikings have Aaron Rodgers waiting in the wings
to sign with their team, and if they don't like
what they're seeing, and if McCarthy doesn't produce on a
(09:44):
Super Bowl roster, then things are not going to be
good for the Vikings, and all of this pressure is
going to come mounting down on McCarthy. If the Vikings
are not good next year and they have a Super
Bowl roster, McCarthy is going to get ripped and the
(10:06):
Vikings organization is going to get ripped for not bringing
in Aaron Rodgers, for not exploring other quarterback options other
than Sam Howell or Brett Rippin. It's not over, it's
not close to over. But there has been a trend
(10:28):
that I've noticed. And this hype video shows two passes
from McCarthy, one really bad and two one and a
second one that was behind Justin Jefferson. We're talking about
wide open receivers, wide open players. All of these throws
should be right between the numbers. Just like Stephen Curry
(10:51):
makes forty five threes in a row in a gym
by himself, McCarthy should be dropping dimes left and right.
And in a fifty nine second video from the Minnesota Vikings,
JJ McCarthy through two errant passes in the hype video.
I'm already against type videos, but a hype video is
supposed to show the best place get fans excited, And
(11:15):
there were two throws in the fifty nine second clip
from the Vikings that were not the best of throws.
So I'm not saying it's troubling, but I'm just pointing
something out that JJ McCarthy last year in OTA's through
three inaccurate passes in a row that hit the ground,
and this year, in OTA's during the Minnesota Vikings hype video,
(11:38):
it showed two passes that were not the greatest. So
take that way you will. I already know the reaction
to this video, but I'm unafraid I don't give a rip.
