Speaker 2 (00:38):
This is the Jody Jones Show on Powertong ninety six
to seven.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
And Hey, I'm fourteen hundred.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Good afternoon, and thank you for joining us on the
Jody Jones Show. I am Jody Jones and in studio
with Frank van Landingham.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Hey guys, how you doing.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
Frank? I've been hearing a lot of stuff about tariffs
and how President Trump is destroying America because of tariffs.
I have one thing to say to everybody out there,
if you have a problem with that, buy American. That's
all you have to do. Buy American. What that's gonna do?
The tariffs? And here's what I got to ask to everybody.

(01:14):
How can an American actually be mad at a mirror tariff?
If they're going to charge us twenty percent or twenty
five percent or whatever number you want to why can't
we charge them the same? That's good for America. And
for somebody to say, oh, we can't charge them twenty
five percent, they're charging us twenty five percent. Why can't

(01:35):
we charge them? Why have for years and years and
years they've been charging us twenty or twenty five and
we've been charging them two That don't make sense. Guys, Relax,
hold on to your breeches. Everything's gonna be okay. Jobs
are going to be coming back to America. That's what
this is all about. Build in America, American products. People

(01:56):
are gonna people other countries are gonna buy from us,
not us buying from them. We have the best country
in the world, we have the most resources, and it's
absolutely ridiculous that we buy everything from everybody else. It's
absolutely ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
It totally is. And I'll tell you if you believe
in this country. Well, Number one, if you're in this country,
it's because you want to be here. Okay. Even the
people that talk smack about this country came to this country,
and all you good people go ahead.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
You're right, You're right, Frank. And and I'm gonna I'm
gonna talk about this. I'm we're gonna talk about President
Trump right now a little bit, and we're gonna talk
about history and every story about great leaders are criticized them,
are right, Frank.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Yeah, criticized, persecuted for doing the right thing. If you're
an American, or if you're a I hate America American,
or a foreign national that wants to show your flag
in my face, you know what. Number one, you're here,
if you're going to be here, be a good guest.
If you're going to act like you own this place,
then act like you own it and be good about it.
But I want my brothers and sisters in this country

(03:06):
to be gainfully employed. I want them to be working.
I want them to bring home big fat paychecks and
take care of their kids. I don't want to live
in a country where we buy a bunch of Chinese products,
where everybody goes to harbor freight and buys a bunch
of stuff that smells like vinyl, and everything's scanned with

(03:27):
a barcode. You're checking it out through a virtual cashier.
I mean, they're going to turn this world into a
vending machine if you allow them. Before you know it,
you're unemployed, you have no money. You're on your hind
legs like a dog, beg in the government to give
you your sustenance. Is that That's not the world that
I envision. I don't see that as nirvana.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
We do not have to live like that. No, America,
the United States have the most resources than anybody on
this planet. Why are we buy from other people? Well,
I mean, you know, there's things that we have to
but we can make everything right here man. And what
we have to do is we have to relieve policies

(04:09):
for these business These businesses want to, you know, have
their business here in America. They want to build, they
want to hire people. We can't bog them down with
all these policies, right.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
But you have to remember the people that vote for
the politicians that enact this stuff. These people are stuck
in a childhood paradigm. These are like thirteen year old
Chagovara worshiping kids, yep, and they think that, you know,
their whole life can be about playing hacky sacks, smoking weed,

(04:41):
watching you know, cat videos on their phone while their
mom and dad go to work and they have no
idea how things work. But the truth of the matter
is tariff's done the right way are actually a good thing.
It will encourage American production. But again, if you talk
about Doze, if you talk about tariff, if you talk
about Ukraine, these are all heavy, hard, difficult things and

(05:04):
these are not for the week. These are things for
people that are actually drivers leaders in this country that
want to make this place better. And so like quitting drinking,
quitting gambling, quitting overeating or something like this, there's going
to be some pain. This is going to be a
little bit hard. The results are not guaranteed. But you

(05:24):
know what, you get to a better place by taking
the stairs instead of waiting for somebody to carry you
up the stairs. And that's the only thing this guy's
trying to do. He's trying to make your country better.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
This is hell President Trump and Doze and everything like that.
So you know, just sit back and relax, guys, because
it's going to get better any anything, any change, especially
like this. It's going to seem like it's it's going
to be worse at first, but it's going to get better.
I promise you. It's life.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
It's hard, Jody, right, you got to be harder. Life
is hard. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
I mean, if you want to succeed in life, you
have to work at it. You have to work hard.
You have to. You have to you know, you have
to work hard. I mean, there's no other way to
say it. It's pretty simple. It's a pretty simple recipe.
When when you want to be successful, you work hard.
President Trump is working hard right now. Oh he has
good people behind him, you know. And the tariffs I

(06:20):
just don't get it with and yeah, it's gonna make
a few things more expensive. But again, by American man,
it's that simple.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Yeah. You know. You know my wife every morning, I
love you, Lydia, Marie Van Lanningham, Thank you for all
you do for me.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
Smart man, buddy.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
Oh yeah, I'll tell you. The first thing I do
is I make her coffee, bring it to her in bed.
Next thing I do, I build a fire every morning.
I'm going to tell you something this morning. Last night
we had a beautiful fire. While it rained, we watched
TV together on the couch. It was lovely. And I
will tell you this, that fire that I was building
and burning came from firewood that I chopped last August

(06:59):
when it was one hundred and ten degrees outside. You see,
some heavy, hard work had to happen to have that warm,
cozy fire. She is the beneficiary of some sweat, some
hard work. A guy who went out in his truck
with a chainsaw, dropped a few trees, cut them up,
split them up, stacked it up, built the fire, cleaned
out the ashes. You see, all that is happening behind

(07:21):
the scenes by rough cut people like me, so that wonderful, beautiful,
pretty people can have a nice life. This is what
guys do. If you're a real man, You take care
of your family, You do the heavy lifting, you do
the hard stuff, and you don't let these small brained
people tell you, oh, don't do it because it's hard.
And my wife, you even told me, Jody, she said,

(07:43):
what about the Boston Tea party.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
That's what I was going to say. You know, if
that was the case, then what about the Boston Tea part?
What if the people back then was soft what I mean,
what would have happened?

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Just pay the tax. Just pay the tax. I mean
tax is a tariff. Don't pick a fy with England.
Let's just do what they say because it's easier. And
I like, I want cheap tea. And you see, it's
those small minded, little crap weasels that think they're going
to run the world, and all they're gonna do is
drive us straight back into bondage. If you want to
be strong, proud, free, rich, prosperous, any of those good things,

(08:18):
you got to do the heavy lifting. You gotta do
the work. You got to take the pain. That is
the recipe to get on top.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
We have to think America. We have to put America first.
We know, when somebody asked me, hey, what nationality are you?
You know what I tell them. I say I'm an American.
I don't say anything that. I don't say I'm black, brown,
purple white. I say I'm an American. I'm a proud American.
I'm proud to be an American. I don't I fly
my flag in my front yard proudly because I love

(08:49):
my country and I love what it stands for. And
when I see people talk about America or I see
these protesters, these pro Palestinian protesters, you know, burning the flag. Yeah,
and they wonder why we're mad. They wonder why America
is mad? You know, Americans mad. I'm mad because I
don't want somebody burning my flag in the streets and

(09:10):
telling me how bad America is while they're living here
and benefiting from America.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Jody, you spend a lifetime, you spent an entire career
having a flag on your arm, carrying a badge and
a gun, yep, representing this country, serving this country you
come from. And I honor you, I admire you. You,
like many of my heroes, you're one of them who
spent his life serving, not asking to be served. But
you know what, you don't have the curse of an

(09:37):
entitlement mentality. A lot of people think that they're and
I believe that the entitlement mentality is responsible for theft.
For example, I'm entitled to take your stuff, okay, violence,
I'm entitled to go across the boundaries and do what
I want to you. You see those people, all these criminals,
also have an entitled mentality. Even drug problems. I don't

(10:01):
want to have any pain. I don't want to have this.
I want to take a pill for everything. You're not
entitled to a free life. You're not entitled to a
pain free life. You're not entitled to what other people have.
You are not entitled to anything other than that which
you build, that which you work, that which you fight for,
that which you are willing to die for. That's what

(10:23):
you're entitled to.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
What is America? America is is the best place on earth?
And why is it that? Because you've had people work
their fingers to the bone to make it the best
place on earth. That is what this place is. That's
what we're built on. That's what our history is. People
want to say history of America is racist, and this no,

(10:44):
it's not. It's a history of people working really hard,
taking care of their families, taking care of their communities,
and wanting the best for their children and their grandchildren.
That's what America is about.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
The entire premise of this country is this is a
fertile garden where if you till it, you cultivate it,
you plant it, you water it, beautiful things will grow.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
But you got to get.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Up, plant the seeds, pull the weeds. You gotta do
the work. You don't just come here and go Okay, guys,
I'm here. Now, where's all the free stuff? I want
my free phone. It doesn't work that way.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
You know, Frank, you live on a farm pretty much.
And my daughter just moved from the city to pretty
much a beautiful little farmhouse. It's beautiful. And I told
her I went and visited the other day and we're
talking about her yard. I said, sweetheart, listen very carefully.
You love this right? She goes, yes, Dad, I love
it out here. I love the sunrise, the sunsets. I said, well,

(11:40):
you're going to have to work hard to keep it
like this. You have to spray, you keep the weeds
out of the gardens. You have to keep your grasp mode.
It's a it's hard work to keep this out and
keep it up.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
It's not the Thomas Kincaid painting that we're used to
shame exactly.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
It's a lot of heavy And I told her, I said,
baby girl, you know this, anything worth having is worth
working hard for.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Right my place, my little five acres that I live
at in Exeter.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
Which is absolutely beautiful, and you work your tail end
off at it.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
It's a thirty hour a week project. When I'm not
at work, I'm at home because it's like managing a city.
If the water goes out, I don't get to call
by God, that's American, right, right, right right, I don't
get to call an eight hundred number if whatever's wrong.
I'm the mayor, I'm the sheriff. I'm everything well, Mayor
Van Lanningham.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
We're going to take a break right now and when
we come back, we're going to explain to everybody kind
of about the Ukraine debacle that we're having right now
and how everybody thinks that we need to help them.
But we're going to explain that to you when we
come back.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
The Jody Jones Show on Power Talk ninety six seven
nine AM, fourteen hundred.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
Hey, when we broke we uh, we were kind of
talking about everything tariffs, h President Trump, doze. But right
now we're going to kind of talk about Ukraine and
why does everybody think that we have an obligation to Ukraine.
I understand we United States has an obligation of keeping
democracy safe in the world, but there's a difference.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
You're absolutely right again, we got into NATO after World
War two and the whole idea was and it was
let's be honest, it was gang mentality. Attack on one
is an attack on all, and that's kind of prison
yard politics. That's how things really work in this world.
We believe in strength and numbers and we get together.
And so we created NATO as a way to ensure

(15:41):
that a country like say Germany or Mussolini and Italy
would not or Japan wouldn't reconstitute itself and come back
and become a world threat. At that point, Russia was
our best friend because they were on the side of
the Allies fighting the Axis of evil, which was Hitler
at that in Germany.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
Yeah, but things change, things morph, and we go forward.
And in the series it was what third season, episode six,
I think what happened was it turned out that our
interests were not actually aligned with Russia's because they changed
their political model well with romunism.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
When Russia broke up, yeah, well that was.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
A horrible thing. It was an explosion or an implosion,
if you would, and that was a big problem. Actually,
it sounded like a good thing. Tear down this wall.
All that sounded great. The wall came down, everybody said, yay,
we won. We won. Sometimes right after you win, you
realize you've cut off the head of the hydra, and
now nine other snakes pop up. And what happened in

(16:44):
Russia was you had a nuclear armed Russia. We were
very much at odds with them. You got to remember
a few years before this, they had prepositioned a lot
of missiles into Cuba yep. And Kennedy told them, you
got you know, twenty four hours, get those missiles out
of Cuba or else we're going to win.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
He was a strong president.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Oh yeah, this guy had testicular fortitude yep and so,
and that was scary. And let me tell you, folks,
the easy play at that time would be to go,
don't pick a fight with them, just let them leave
the weapons there. It's okay, we don't want trouble.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
As forted as former Biden, you know, Joe Biden would
have said, don't, don't, don't, don't.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Just say don't kidding me. Yeah, I think Natalie Holloway
said don't. And it didn't work out. Let's break that
down for everybody. Let let's tell him, you know, how
many factions that Russia broke up up into and the
nukes that was it was just it was a pretty
a pretty tough time for the world. It totally was,
because sometimes the cost of winning turned out to be

(17:47):
a lot greater than we thought. Russia basically broke into
fifteen pieces. And that's a bit of a problem because
prior to this, again, Russia had placed nuclear arms in Cuba.
We pushed back and said, get those out of here.
So we turn around and we start moving our weapons

(18:08):
towards Russia, and we're basically playing chess. Now. Russia of
course failed. Why did it fail because communism fails every
time it's tried. Socialism fails every time it's tried. The
same people that think, oh I believe I'm a social democrat,
I'm a socialist. You know, it failed in Russia. These

(18:29):
people were starving to death. Yep, so they broke away.
Russia could not hang onto it also when it broke up.
This is a list of the countries. Okay, and I'm
doing this the best I can. So work with me here, Folks, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine,

(18:54):
Uzbekistan and Russia. So all of a sudden, we throw
this beautiful thing on the ground adders into all these
little pieces. And you know, in that most of these
countries were unstable, brand new countries, all very corrupt and
run by oligarchs, which are basically, let's say a Mark
Zuckerberg who is told by the president, you can have

(19:17):
control of the timber, you can have the oil, you
can have this, And they basically doled out pieces of
this country to very wealthy individuals, and it became sort
of mafia and the FSB became the cage, the KGB
became the FSB, and basically Azerbaijan Muslim country, Kazakhstan, uh Krystan, Djikistan,

(19:45):
all the stands, we're all have nukes' yes, yes, that's
that's a problem. You've got instead of one country like
Mother Russia that had all these nuclear not nuclear.

Speaker 4 (19:58):
You know what, Frank, I think like all these stands
and all these other you know, they most of them
still feel like they're part of Mother Russia. A lot
of them do.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
You're on a hundred percent right, because they have a
lot of ethnic Russians in there. But these places are
also largely Muslim countries, and a lot of these countries
have fallen into terrorist hands. So now you've got four
of those countries that had nukes that we know of,
and we suspect others did, and the others had a
lot of conventional arms. So all of a sudden, Ukraine

(20:29):
had a disproportionate number of nuclear weapons. Now we cut
a deal, and it was basically a diplomatic understanding. And
first thing I'll say about diplomatic understandings, diplomats are CIA
type people. When you get a promise from somebody from
the CIA, don't take it to the bank.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
So what I'm hearing you say it was a military agreement.
Pretty much.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
No, it wasn't even a military agreement. I wish it was,
because if it were a military agreement, then we're honor
bound to step up and defend them. This was an
understanding that for the purposes of nuclear arms only, if
they would give their nuclear arms back to Russia, we
would ensure that they were not attacked with nuclear weapons.

(21:14):
End of discussion. It was only talking about the nukes
because at that point the threat matrix was we don't
want all these little stands and all these crappy little
backwoods corrupt countries. Not only having the capacity to discharge
nuclear weapons, we did not want them selling them to
guys like aq KHN and weapons brokers across the world,

(21:36):
because god knows what happens when these fall into Iranian hands,
when they fall into the wrong Saudi hands, Pakistani hans,
this could be bad.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
Well, a lot of people have to understand that Ukraine
refused to go into NATO. They refused to be part
of NATO, and I think a lot of it was
because that they thought, Okay, why are we going to
be part of NATO when we're going to be protected anyway.
You know, That's what they're thinking. And they wanted to
have it both ways exactly. So now everybody wants to

(22:04):
ride for free. Now what you have to understand now,
they want to be part of NATO because they know
that that would draw other countries into the war. That's
one percent why President Trump's smart enough to know that.
So everybody thinks, oh, he's you know, Putin's puppet. No
he's not. No, he's not. Exactly, that's what it's not.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
And honestly, half the people in Ukraine believe they are
still Russian. Those people are not united, like unanimous in
their desire to become Ukrainians, and so that is a
civil war within their country that they need to sort out.
It's not one that we need to send American boys
and girls over there and blood and treasure and start

(22:50):
looking at body counts every day on the TV so
that we can say we did our part. I don't
need to post a flag on Facebook so damn bad
that I'm going to spill American blood for it.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
So do you guys remember when President Trump and Vance
met with Zelensky in the White House and this whole
thing kind of erupted, and they're like, oh my god,
President Trump and Vance was so route to this man,
and you know, Zelensky's the real hero and blah blah
blah and blah blah blah. Now what now, what's he saying?

(23:21):
He met with He met with other nations and he
didn't get what he wanted there either. So now I
was like, hey, President about that deal. I'm ready for
a ceasefire. Now yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
Really, he comes in there wearing Adidas sweats like he
just came off a pickleball cort or something like that
to meet with the President. The President was very clear
and told him, number one, you had a dirty deal
with the Bidens. We've been giving you billions of dollars.
Oh you've been bill Yes, you've been cycling a lot

(23:52):
of that money around and giving it back to my son,
and ten percent for the big guy. This is all
documented stuff. Let's not pretend this stuff didn't happen. So
Zelensky believed in his heart that he's already bought America.
He believes that he has bought and paid for everything,
and he's got something coming. Trump comes in and says,

(24:13):
you know what, new sheriff in town, I don't owe
you anything. So now Trump tells him, look, you're screwed.
You're in a bad place. You got no cards to
play none. And if we are going to send blood
and treasure and help you, you're going to collateralize that
by giving us your mineral rights. We are no longer

(24:35):
going across the world to dump American blood and treasure
into a black hole, which is Ukraine.

Speaker 4 (24:41):
So if anybody out there is listening about listening to
us about what we're talking about here, it is this Relax.
President Trump is he has America's interest in mind. Everything
he does. He's absolutely a chess player playing checkers with
everybody else. And I for one feel comfortable with President

(25:05):
Trump doing what he's doing right now. It's it's nice.
And what I say is, how can any American right
now be mad at cutting fat off of out of
the government. How can any American say anything about mirror tariffs?
Because what's the old saying. If what's good for the

(25:26):
goose is good for the gander, right, yep, that's just
what it is. Man. So you know we're running out
of time, guys, So thanks for joining us today. And
God bless you, and God bless them her.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
Thanks folks, good things, God bless him. Don't worry. You
got Donald Trump at the helm. He's going to get
us through this storm. You couldn't have a better pilot
when it gets rough.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
The Jody Jones Show on Powerton ninety six seven and
AM fourteen.

model or at an accessory dwelling unit? Ad you onto
your property?
