Speaker 1 (00:00):
Can't.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
I am six forty. You're listening to the John Cobelt
podcast on the iHeartRadio app. Welcome. We do this every
day between one and four o'clock and if you miss
anything after four o'clock, the iHeart app is where you
can go to get the podcast John Cobelt on demand.
It's just like the radio show. So you can listen

(00:21):
to the radio, you can listen to the streaming, you
can listen to the podcast. After four o'clock there's you
can just run it endlessly throughout your home time. Now
to talk with John Manley has been with us many times.
He and his law firm have fought for many thousands
of sex abuse victims, taking on a lot of the

(00:42):
big institutions, whether it was USC and USA Gymnastics for
their strange well, the USC was adecologist. USA Gymnastics had
that strange doctor Larry Nasser, also most famously the Catholic

(01:07):
Church Los Angeles Unified School District. His firm is Manly,
Stuart and Finaldi. And let's talk here about La County.
The probation officers who Manley says oversaw essentially Epstein Island
and it was one thousand seven thousand juveniles in the

(01:27):
detention facilities and the foster homes who were sexually abused.
There's a four billion dollar settlement in that case. But
Manley wants to know, well, who did this, how did
it happen? Who's responsible?

Speaker 1 (01:41):
John?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
How are you hey?

Speaker 1 (01:43):
John? Great? Thanks, nice to be here.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
So you said, we have a case where there's seven
thousand victims. Do we have any perpetrators that we know
of that by name or their supervisors?

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Sure, we have a bunch. Thomas Jackson, for one, who
abused many of our clients at Camp Joseph Scott up
in North La County. I think there's thirty claimants against him.
His deposition was taken in the case. He asserted the
Fifth Amendment. The DA declined to prosecute him because of

(02:18):
the statute of limitations. And I'm not critical of the
DA here for that. They're stuck with the statute limitations.
But what's different about this case? So you know Epstein
allegedly abused, well not allegedly, he did abuse hundreds of
dozens and dozens of girls. Here we get thousands. How

(02:39):
many investigations have occurred on Epstein? You know, we've got
Gloria already calling for you know, her transcript to be released.
Every Democratic official and many Republican officials, I guess, are
rightfully calling for that investigation. Well, you have thousands of
kids here who are black and Latino, over thirty years

(03:00):
that were under the control of the Probation Department run
by La County, run by the Board of Supervisors, run
by the most progressive politicians in the country, and not
a word about an investigation. Nothing USC investigated, we investigated,
the DA investigated, he was charged here. No one investigated it.

(03:23):
And so what we've done is write us attorney here,
Bill A. Saley, who has a very good record on
victims rights, and ask him and ask the Justice Department
to open a civil and criminal investigation of La County.
You know how, we're going to the four billion dollars settlement,

(03:43):
which by the way, we're not part of, is the
lot we're set to go to trial in September, but
it's the largest sex abuse settlement in American history, a
dwarf's NASA, which was over a billion dwarf's USC And
we don't have any idea how this happened or who
was possible. And I got to be honest with only
in Los Angeles would that happen. And the whole thing

(04:05):
reeks of corruption. You got a public employee union in
the form of the Department of the Probation Officers Union,
and I how did this happen? And no one can
answer it, and no one wants to answer it. The
Legislature hasn't held a earring on it, the governor hasn't
said a word about it, the Board of Supervisors hadn't

(04:27):
had a public caring on it. They just paid the money. Well,
is that what we're doing now? We're paying four billion
dollars for criminal acts and we don't know what. Every
Catholic don't I mean, they just don't care give they
don't give a damn. And what the truth is is
these politicians are using you know, children, And these kids
didn't go to these boot camps because they committed felonies,

(04:51):
they got in minor trouble and they were supposed to
be you know, brought on the right track, and instead
they were used as human sex toys by by you know,
some not certainly, not all, but some of these probation officers.
And it was known, I mean, the federal government sued
them in twenty twelve, and there was a federal monitor, supposedly,

(05:13):
you know, saying this is going to be back in compliance.
This this went on for years, and the very people
that these politicians claimed to care about that they praise
and you know, oh my god, Ice is taking our children,
and you know that, maybe we need to protest that.
And I'm not I'm not criticizing that, but the utter
hypocrisy of allowing you know, you talk about what happens

(05:34):
to kids in ice custody. Well, in La County's custody,
they got raped. And how come no one's doing any seven.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Thousand times, seven thousand kids got raped multiple times.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah, in the in the custody of the you know,
of the of the Blue. And I'm not being partisan here,
I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of you know, all this,
you know, oh my god, with children, the children, You
had custody of children and you let them get raped,
and and you're not calling for an investigation.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
What is it about probation officers.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
I don't know. I mean, there certainly was a culture
there where this was this was not dealt with. I mean,
there was an example after example, complaint after complaint. Some
were actually prosecuted and nothing changed. So you know, the
point is is we we don't have all the answers,
we don't have all the documents, and it's I think

(06:29):
it's very interesting that that in today's LA times, when
the county was confronted with, you know, the fact that
we're calling for this federal investigation, why didn't they say,
we welcome it. We want to know what happened too. Nope, no, no,
we're we don't, you know nothing. So I think that
I'm very hopeful that you know, the US Attorney will

(06:52):
investigate it and maybe we'll get some answers.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
But one of the things we've talked about over the
years in a lot of these cases, whether it's the
cast Church or the LA Unified School District or any
of the others institutional organizations, is just how everybody goes
dead silent while it's happening. Even though many many people
within the institution, like at USC knows what's going on,

(07:16):
nobody says anything. Then after it happens, it becomes news.
Maybe once in a while somebody goes to jail. Most
of the time, is not big settlements billions of dollars.
Nobody ever has anything to say about it. Nobody's angry,
nobody's appalled. Among those within the institution.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
What is that, Well, it's called I care about my job.
I care about my institution. I don't care about individual children.
Our job as adults is to stand between those who
had hurt our kids and make it stop. And the
truth is, these people failed. And the reality is is

(07:52):
they're so busy caring about their next office, or their
paycheck or the union contract that they've completely off side
of what their primary job was, which was to help
these kids. You know, you took in many instances, John,
they took these kids forcibly from their parents and made
their parents pay tuition to go to these places, and
then they raped them. And you know it's it's destroyed

(08:15):
their lives, and you know it's this is you know,
I think the archdiocese total had I don't know, two
thousand cases, maybe twenty five hundred cases. That this is
seven thousand. You know, you had every politician in the
in the in the state up screaming up and down
about Cardinal Mahoney and rightfully, so, well, where's the outrage here?

(08:38):
You know, I mean, everybody's out right, but I actually
believe that I mean, you know, Epstein molests and rapes horribly.
You know, you know, one hundred and fifty young white girls,
and the world falls apart. But if you if you
assault sex you know, sexually assault black children and you

(08:59):
know children and apparent in Los Angeles County, we don't care.
If you cared, you'd get answers and you'd hold those responsible.
And I'll tell you what I think. I think there's
a lot of people that aren't a lot of high
places in the in state government and in county government
who would have a lot to answer for it. And
that's why they're not calling for it. And I think
that's precisely and it's a civil rights matter. You can't

(09:21):
take somebody in custody when you can't leave and then
just rape them. I mean, you know that just happened
up in the federal prison up in Dublin, California, and
there was a huge federal investigation. This dwarfs any sexual
abuse case, it dwarfs the Catholic disease case, and yet
nothing's happened. So, like I said, I hope and pray

(09:43):
that the Justice Department and our US attorney here will
get into this because it's it's wrong and it's awful.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
John Manley, thank you for coming on again.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Thank you sir.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
All right, take care John Manley from Manly Storton FINALDI
Where is it? Yes, Manley Sterton Finolde. I got him
in the right order. I must never do.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
You're listening to John Cobelt on demand from KFI AM
six forty.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
John Coblt's show kf I AM six forty more stimulating
talk radio. You can follow us at John Cobelt Radio,
at John Cobelt Radio and social media and the Moist
Line eight seven seven Moist eighty six on Friday eight
seven seven Moist eighty six, or here's the talkback feature
on the iHeartRadio app. We spent a lot of time

(10:35):
yesterday on Gavin Newsom, who wants to redraw the congressional
districts in California so they'll be almost no Republicans in
Congress representing the state. And he's doing this to fight
back against Texas. The governor there wants to redraw the

(10:56):
lines so they have an overwhelming majority of republic congressman
representing Texas in Washington. Now, I don't think anybody should
be redrawing their districts unless they're going to make the
districts more logical and fair and reasonable so that people
who live together in a certain area with common interests

(11:19):
and common needs have the same man or woman representing them.
But there's a lot of states with a lot of
bizarre congressional districts, and both sides ought to stop this nonsense.
But Newsom, particularly since this is US, this is California,
this is the one we care about, or should care about.

(11:40):
Whatever they do in Texas is the business of the
people of Texas. But him sticking his nose in this
Texas situation and redraw our districts. Do you know right
now how lopsided it is? Even with an independent panel.
Republican candidates got forty percent of the congressional vote in

(12:01):
this state last year. Forty percent. Do you know what
percentage of seats are Republican? Seventeen percent congressional seats from California.
So you have forty percent of the public gets seventeen
percent of the seats. What Newsom wants to do is

(12:24):
reduced that to six percent of the seats. His map
would redraw the districts, so there'd be forty nine Republicans
and three Democrats. No, forty nine Democrats and three Republicans.
Excuse me, forty nine to three. The Republicans would be
outnumbered three Republicans, representing forty percent of the voters. Yeah,

(12:49):
talk about threats to democracy. And he's doing this for
only one reason. I don't think he gives a crap
about this stuff. But that makes him look like a
fighter to all the lunatic primary voters who want to
topple Trump. Trump's not even gonna be on the ballot

(13:10):
in twenty twenty eight. He's not running for president anymore.
So you have Newsom trying to whip up anger among
those who hate Trump, and by time this all matters,
Trump will be president. It's just the craziest thing I've

(13:32):
ever seen. And what he's gonna do is just disenfranchise
everybody who votes for a Republican congressional candidate, Republicans and independents.
That adds up to forty percent of the state. One
strategist said, Gavin Newsom's presidential campaign launch is predicated on

(13:55):
the success of this initiative. He says, it's saving demandocracy
and it can only be successful if it's not operating
as a presidential campaign launch. But it is. He says,
if this fails, he'll have egg on his face. He
should understand what the pitfalls are. This is to get

(14:22):
five new congress people that are Democrats here in California,
and so they'll come up with some kind of bizarre
set of weirdly shaped congressional districts so that Republicans will
be asd out of having a Republican representative. You know,

(14:43):
the Republicans will all somehow be clumped together. They'll zigzag
lines all across the states to sticks together largely Republican districts,
cram them into waw one congressional district, which is just awful.
And he's going to have all the sink offense in
the legislature back him. He has to put it on

(15:07):
the ballot. The public has to vote on it, because
the public passed a proposition back in twenty ten. Schwarzenegger
was behind this that said we have an independent commission
draw the lines every ten years after the census, and
he wants that repealed. So he's going to do is

(15:28):
run an extreme over the top anti Trump campaign to
get the lines redrawn so they'll be only three Democrats.
They'll only be three Republican congressmen left in the state.
Largest state in the Union will have three Republican congress people.

(15:49):
And that's just wrong. So he looks like a fighter
to primary voters. You know, he is such a selfish,
arrogant stoop of a human being. You know the list
of problems we have in the state, many of them

(16:11):
he's created or aggravated. And again, nothing from him on
those issues. Nothing like Karen Bass. Right, we got people
shooting intruders, we got people pepper sprang, male thieves in
Studio City. Nothing from Bass, only about illegal aliens and

(16:33):
ice fall. Who knew him. It's all about Republicans in Texas.
There's nobody in charge here who cares about the people. Nobody.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
You're listening to John Cobels on demand from KFI AM
six forty.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
We do this every day between one and four o'clock,
and maybe you're just joining us. You missed a lot.
We'll be on We'll be on the podcast after four o'clock.
It's John Cobel Show on demand, same as the radio show,
just covers what you missed because we started out earlier
today at one o'clock with Michael Monks reporting on the

(17:11):
Department of Homeland Security. The ICE agents. They jumped out
of a rented truck and arrested sixteen illegal aliens at
a home depot. It's the same home depot that they
hit a few weeks ago in the Westlake section of
LA near MacArthur Park. Fox just last hour released some

(17:33):
of the video I was looking on the website. It's
very short clips. They're really not worth playing because it's
just noise and you can't make what's going on, make
out what's going on. But Fox had a camera inside
the truck. It was a Penske truck, and the truck
rolled up to a home depot and the driver indicated
he was looking for workers. The workers came streaming at

(17:53):
the truck, and then they rolled up the back door
and all these masked ICE agents jumped out. One guy's
wearing a cowboy hat and they ran it up sixteen
sixteen illegal aliens and took them all away. There's a
second clip of one ICE agent holding two illegal immigrants

(18:15):
by the shirt collar and pulling them away and everybody
is now Bass is screaming, and that idiot counsel woman,
the socialist communist unsis Hernandez is screaming that this violates
the court order. And you know who cares? Who cares?
Nobody wants to follow the law anymore. You don't want

(18:36):
to follow the law and clean up the criminals and
clean up all the homeless people and all the rest
of the nonsense. I really don't care what Trump and
Ice does. We're paying thirty five billion for illegal aliens
in this state, and you know, I mean, I've had it.
You want to go pay that tax money, go ahead.

(18:56):
I don't anymore. So whatever I is doing is fine
by me. Now, Now here's here's here's you pay your
tax money for this crap and it doesn't get done.
And we've been talking about citizens in La revolting, sometimes violently,

(19:17):
but here was a peaceful protest and it worked. In
Sawtel on the west side, there's a park, Stoner Park,
which I've been to many times. My son's played a
number of baseball games and basketball games at Stoner Park.
I played tennis there, family park, and the whole neighborhood.

(19:41):
Not only the park, there's school's daycare, and there's some
dangerous crosswalks. And the residents kept asking for the city
and all they had to do was spend money on paint,
and they wouldn't. The city would not paint crosswalks around
Sawtel Park, And so Jonathan Hale, a local resident, took

(20:08):
it up behind himself. He bought two hundred dollars worth
of paint, recruited some neighbors, and they painted crosswalks around
the park over several weekends. And guess what happened. The
Los Angeles Department of Transportation removed the crosswalk lanes, painted

(20:31):
them over. They people went crazy. They're just trying to
keep their kids from getting run over. And if they
weren't going to do it, why couldn't the residents. The
residents weren't even charging the city. What the hell is
wrong with people in this stupid carrying bass run government.

(20:54):
They're trying to keep their kids from getting flattened. We've
got so many criminals and drug addicts, so many mental patients.
Some of them drive. I know some of the homeless
people drive. They live in their cars, not to mention
the uninsured, illegal aliens. So here's what's crazy is after

(21:19):
the Department of Transportation removed the crosswalk lines, they came back.
The department came back and painted new ones. I Transportation
department said the crossacks crosswalks had to comply with accessibility requirements,

(21:43):
so the crosswalks would be painted after all, and then
they're going to install curb ramps and sidewalk improvements.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Well, I guess you have to take matters into your
own hands to get anything done.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Yeah, you do. There isn't a soul in this city government.
And this is why Trump's got to take over the Olympics.
Because the employees don't care. Nobody in government makes them care.
Nobody on the city council, nobody in the mayor's office,
nobody who runs these departments. Like John Manley was talking

(22:18):
last half hour when we were talking about the seven
thousand kids who were sexually assaulted by probation officers for decades,
nobody ever reported them demanded action be taken. I don't
know what the makeup is of people who get into government.

(22:41):
I don't understand it. They're not like normal people. They
are zombies who are just there so that their paycheck
gets deposited every two weeks in their bank accounts. That's
their only interest. Nobody's going to get fired. There are
no metrics to judge their performance, and they could sit

(23:03):
there like lumps of clay every day for fifty years.
And the thing is, when Garcetti was mayor, they had
this Vision zero plan and they wanted I remember that
they wanted rogue diets. They were removing lanes put it.

(23:25):
But they're painting bicycle lanes and nobody drives them. I mean,
I go down like Wilson Boulevard all the time and
there's bike lanes and there's you know, there's there's all
these painted crosswalks.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
In this.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
Nobody nobody uses these special lanes. A ten years they've
had Vision zero and that that that was lots of money,
tax money spent. They did an auto recently and found
significant failures in the program. In Koreatown. Last week, a

(24:03):
nine year old boy was hit by a car while
crossing the street on an electric scooter. Local residents had
been complaining about the safety of that intersection for years.
They wanted to get a roundabout. They had a community
meeting in twenty twenty one. Nothing's been constructed. So they're

(24:24):
in Koreatown. There's something called the Crosswalk Collective of LA
and their tagline is we paint crosswalks. The City of
Los Angeles doesn't keep us safe. So we keep us safe.
And they're they're they're painting. They painted crosswalks in Koreatown,

(24:48):
So now you have these are like it's like guerrilla
warfare among the residents. They're painting crosswalks in Koreatown and
Sawtown and I'm sure the idiots in Karen Basson's had
been stration will remove them in Koreatown and then repaint them.

(25:09):
The stupidity is astounding. It's just overwhelming.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
You're listening to John Cobels on demand from KFI Am sixty.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
How about this woman who was dancing on the roof
of a rec center in San Fernando and she fell
into a chimney. She got trapped inside the chimney and
LA Fire department it took him over an hour to
get her out of there. They used this rope system.

(25:44):
They think alcohol was involved. They think because you know,
the first question is why are you dancing on the
roof of a rec center? And this was this must
have been right after a happy hour, because this is
seven o'clock at night, and she's saw perfect timing. She's

(26:06):
so loaded. She found a way to climb up to
the roof and then fell down the chimney and I
I don't know if she was able to call out
on her phone or maybe somebody saw her go down.
Because the rescue crew is able to find her.

Speaker 4 (26:20):
It's probably a tight squeeze to get your phone out
of your pocket and a chimney. Did you see Trump
on the roof of the White House? I saw a
photo of it. Well, what was going on there? Was
taking He was just taking a walk, I guess, but
reporters were asking him what he was doing up there,
and he shouts down, Oh, we're putting up nuclear missiles
up here. Then he mimics a missile taking off of

(26:42):
his hand.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
They probably all took him seriously too. Of course he's good.
They're all gonna be outraged and they'll be denouncing him.
Uh in uh oh, this is this is good. You know.
You know they gave special stickers the people who drive
electric vehicles so they can drive in the carpool lanes

(27:10):
even if they're driving solo, and it looks like that's
going to be gone for good. It was called the
Clean Air Vehicle Decal, and they've been allowed to drive
in the carpool lane for years now, and all it
did is clog up the carpool lane for all the

(27:30):
Tesla owners. If you bought an evy, a plug in hybrid,
or a hydrogen fuel cell car, how many of those
exist in the world. I've never seen one of those
of you. I think Hummer made one. Yeah, Schwarzenegger was
pushing one, I remember. But that's so because there's four

(27:54):
hundred and sixty five thousand vehicles that have these decals,
but they need authorization from the US government to keep
the programs in place. And the program expires on September thirtieth,
and I have a feeling that's going to expire. That
doesn't sound like a Trump administration priority. Here. In fact,

(28:17):
the California DMV has already put out a notice saying
the decal program is ending. They will no longer be
valid as of October first. Good. I wonder how many
people bought an electric vehicle so they could get an
undeserved perk in the carpool lane just because they're green,
just because they care about the climate more than you do.

(28:39):
Screw those people. Well, now they're getting kicked out of
the lane. I wonder if they'll sell their car now.
You know what else? It gets rid of the new
bill that Trump passed that Trump signed the big beautiful bill.
I feel like an idiot calling that, but that's what
everybody's calling it. It gets rid of the federal tax
credit of up to seventy five hundred if you buy

(29:01):
an electric vehicle. That's also ending effective September thirtieth. So
how about that. You're not going to get seventy five
hundred dollars in our tax money to find your freaking Tesla,
and you don't get to ride in the carpool lane
without a passenger anymore. This was such a huge subsidy

(29:25):
that the middle class, the working class was paying to
give perks to the wealthy because the Tesla was sold
not anymore, but they did sell in California, and only
the wealthy could afford those And of course they wanted
their own lane, or they wanted access to the special

(29:45):
VIP lane. Well they're out of luck there and they're
not getting the seventy five hundred dollars. I wonder how many.
That's one thing. I you know, it was irritating. I mean,
Elon Musk built his Tesla success. No small, no small

(30:08):
percentage of that success was because he would get all
these federal tax subsidies and state tax subsidies, and to me,
you should always let the market decide if the people
want to pay for a particular product, like an electrical vehicle,
then you know, let the market work out what the
price ought to be, what people can afford, what they want,

(30:29):
but to have taxpayers, against their will, have to fund
the ev experiment. And then most of the people who
are buying the teslas have now turned on musk Anyway idiots.
They don't care about the climate. They wanted to be cool.
They wanted to be cool. They want to have the
perk of driving in the in the carpool lane, and

(30:54):
they wanted the big break on the price to get
seventy five hundred off. Good Lord, when we come back, well,
actually we won't be back. Conway will be here. Michael
