Speaker 1 (00:00):
Can't. I am six forty. You're listening to the John
Cobel podcast on the iHeartRadio App.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
I am Carl Demayo, State assembly Member, chairman of Reform
California and overall troublemaker for corrupt politicians in California. I'm
sitting in for John and just so you know, for
the next three days, and I'm.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Eager to hear from you.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Would love to hear your thoughts on issues, particularly the
Prop fifty special election, as well as our California Voter
ID initiative campaign, the signature drive that I'm currently leading
statewide to get a million signatures to put that initiative
on the ballot. But any topic that is of concern
(00:42):
to you sound off.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Of course.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
You know, we have our iHeartRadio app and that's where
if you miss anything on the shows that I'm hosting
this week for John, you can catch up on the podcast.
They're posted every day right after four pm. But you also,
hopefully with this Amazon Web outage that we've been experiencing,
hopefully you can use the iHeartRadio app talkback feature to
(01:10):
send me a question or give me a thought or
a take on the issues that we're going to be
talking about, and we will get to as many of
those throughout our show today, tomorrow and Wednesday, as I'm
sitting in for John as many of those as possible.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
We're going to talk about Prop fifty.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
We have some alarming data that I want to share
with you. We are really on the ropes. We are
down by about five percentage points right now. There's still
a pretty big chunk of undecided voters. But Gavin Newsom
right now is hovering around fifty percent for his corrupt
(01:53):
redistricting scheme with Prop fifty. The Yes side in the
tracking polling that I'm seeing is going from you know,
fifty one percent to fifty two percent to forty nine
percent of fifty percent. They're kind of bumping along, and
a good percentage of his support. Newsom's support for his
redistricting scheme. It's pretty weak, so it can be peeled away,
(02:16):
but with every passing moment as people return their ballots,
the cement is hardening. So I'm gonna be talking in
this hour about the best arguments to use with your
friend's family, neighbors, coworkers, third cousins, twice removed. I need
(02:37):
you to get active and vocal and communicate because word
of mouth marketing is literally what moves the needle. Everyone
has seen Gavin Newsom's TV ads. He's put one hundred
million dollars on TV.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
They're nauseating.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
They feature Barack Obama, all sorts of lies. Trump is awful.
If you if you don't like Trump, you know, get
back at them by voting yes. Of course that's the scam.
The scam is use the hatred of Trump to give
the politicians, or to get the politicians exactly what they want,
which is the power back. So if you're thinking TV
(03:13):
ads are going to move the needle, no Plus, I'm
gonna share with you the ad that Reform California just
issued today. We weren't supposed to put a TV ad out,
but the No campaign, run by a bunch of incompetent,
grifting political consultants, have put together ads that are so weak,
(03:33):
so ineffective, that they might as well just have burnt
the money in the middle of the street. And so
we decided to put an ad together which I will
share with you for the No on Prop fifty side.
And of course it is on my social media channels
at Carl Tomayo on Twitter and Facebook. So let's jump
(03:55):
right into it. We have uh oh, and the other thing,
where am I broadcasting from? I mentioned I'm doing the
statewide petition drive for the California Voter ID initiative. We're
getting a million signatures on the California Voter ID Initiative
and many of you have probably already received a mailer
from me with a petition inside. We sent it out
(04:19):
in a handwritten number ten envelope. It said time sensitive
open immediately. Hopefully you saw that in your mailbox. Hopefully
it got your attention. We did one point five million
handwritten letters with the petition inside. But if you missed
out on that, you can always sign the petition by
downloading it, printing it, signing it, and mailing it back
(04:43):
to me by going to the website Voteridinitiative dot com
Voter ID Initiative dot com.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
I'd also like you to.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Request a petition kit so you can get additional signatures
from friends and family and neighbors. You can click under
a volunteer at that same website, voter Initiative dot com.
But where am I broadcasting from today? I'm in San Jose,
that's right. I am standing around the gates of Hell
the Bay Area. No, I am not going into San
(05:12):
Francisco proper. I would probably end up contracting a communical
bowl disease or getting knifed by some criminal. Cause that's
just like hell, okay, that is just you know, yeah,
not step in foot in San Francisco. Plus, I don't
think there's a whole lot of people in San Francisco
proper that are going to sign the California Voter ID petition,
and even less are willing to vote no on Prop fifty.
(05:33):
So we are doing seventy two events in thirty days.
We kicked off this tour back on the fourth of October,
a bus tour statewide. Some of you might have already
been to one of my events. If you haven't been
to one of my events, please come. We have free
Yes on Prop fifty yard signs, and we've got the
California Voter I D Initiative that you can sign and
(05:56):
the petition kits that I just referenced for volunteers. Plus
we give you an update on the fight to take
back your state, and it's a fun time. Check out
the fullest of events at Voter ID Initiative dot com.
All right, so, let's jump right into it. We did
not think when we launched the campaign for the California
Voter ID Initiative in July that when we started signature
(06:18):
collection October first, that we would be in the middle of.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
A two front war.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
We thought we'd just be getting a million signatures on
the California Voter ID Initiative, and that's already hard enough.
But no, Gavin Newsom and the corrupt politicians of this
state have seen an opportunity to seize power from the people,
and they also are threatened by Voter ID. They see
(06:44):
voter ID as cleaning up the voter rolls and restoring
integrity or our elections, and so they're terrified. Their view
is if Voter ID passes and voters are still upset
about how bad things are in California, we're going to
lose our political power. And so what they decided to
do is concoct Prop fifty. Oh oh oh, you thought
(07:09):
Prop fifty was about Trump and Texas. Oh honey, don't
fall for it all right. This is just Trump and
Texas is just.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
The window dressing.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
It is just the the ruse, the excuse, the shiny
object diversion game for what they've always.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Wanted to do. They have never liked.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
The Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission. They've always wanted the power
back from the people so that they can manipulate the
lines of their own districts. Remember they say it's temporary.
These are the same people who fought the creation of
the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission in twenty ten.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
These are the same.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
People who've been lying in weight with emphasis on the
word lying, lying in wait for the moment, the opportunity,
the ruse to destroy the Citizens Redistricting Commission and seize
the power back.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Because here's the deal.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
The politicians know in the state of California that voters
are shifting, And in a moment, I'm going to give
you some really exciting data sets.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
I'm a data geek. I look at data.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
I consume data, and every bit of data out there
is showing the same flashing warning for Democrats in California.
You're losing the voters. You're losing the grip on power.
Voters are shifting. I'll share with you in a moment
those data sets. But it is very clear that the
(08:52):
politicians saw that voters were shifting because the highest cost
of living in the nation, the homelessness crisis, the mismanaged
of the wildfires, the crime wave, the failing schools, the
job losses, all of the things that you suffer from
and are frustrated by. In California, the things that upset
(09:16):
you are now upsetting even Democrat voters, such that sixty
five percent of Californians and the latest pPIC poll the
Public Policy Institute of California, which is a pretty reputable poll,
sixty five percent of Californians now say the state is
on the wrong track. Do you understand in a state
that has so many Democrat voters, how many Democrats have
(09:38):
to come to the painful conclusion that their side is
causing a problem? Do you understand how hard of that is?
So Newsome in the politicians see this data. They see
that Trump flipped six counties to the red between twenty
twenty and twenty twenty four. They see that we just
picked up seats in the state legislature for the first time,
the greatest number of seats since nineteen eighty four in
(10:01):
the state legislature in a presidential cycle. And so Newsom
and the Democrats are saying, God, if we we have
two choices, fix the problem. Yeah, we're not gonna do that. No, no, no, no,
we're not gonna We're not gonna fix the problem.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
You joking. No, we're not gonna turn over a new leaf.
What are are any.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Other options besides fixing problems because we're not in the
fixing problems business.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Oh that's when they said, I have an idea. I
have an idea. Let's jerrymander the.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
District so that we can be, you know, devoid of accountability.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Let's not let the voters choose someone else.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Let's make the district so lopsided that we basically we
get the seat for the rest of our lives. Even
after we don't have a pulse. I'm looking at you,
Nancy Pelosi. Even after we don't have a pulse, our
heart stops beating, we still are in office because we.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Jerrymand are the districts.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
That's what Prop fifty is all about. Has nothing to
do with Trump or Texas.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Oh no, no, no, no, I hear you. But Carl, I
think it has something to do with Trump and Texas.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
Well.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Coming up, I'm gonna give you the best response to
why Trump and Texas are not the reason to vote
yes on Prop.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
Fifty, that it's all falsehoods, and I have the best
response to someone thinking about voting yes on Prop fifty
knowing it's probably wrong, but wanting to get back at Trump.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
I'm going to give that message to you. I want
you to share it. It's Carl Demyo sitting in for
John Cobelt on KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 6 (11:34):
You're listening to John Cobelt on demand from KFI AM
six forty.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
I'm Carl Demio sitting in for John Cobelt KFI AM
six forty. Can hear the show live everywhere on the
iHeartRadio app. Remember, use that talk back feature. If you
have any questions about Prop fifty, the California Voter I
D Initiative Signature drive that I'm leading, or any challenge
your problem in the state of California that you want
(12:02):
me to weigh in on, please use the talkback feature
and we will play some of those shortly this this afternoon.
We're talking about Prop fifty and I uh just laid
out why I'm concerned that in the state of California
we are right now, the election we're held today, the
(12:22):
polling shows Newsom has like a five point edge and
given how the independent or the toss up vote undecided
vote breaks, he probably wins by fifty four to forty six,
maybe fifty five to forty five. But there's still time
to stop Gavin Newsom's corruptory districting scheme. There's still time
(12:44):
to convince people who right now are undecided or may
even be leaning towards the Yes vote to switch to no,
to break in the direction of no. And I want
to equip you with the best messages because it's not
like the TV that the No.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Side has been running is going to work.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Frankly, those political consultants need to be fired and never
hired again in politics. That's why Republicans lose in California
is that we have crappy consultants who grift. Every penny
that is raised for campaigns is wasted. And that's why
it reform California. Our model is grassroots activism. Neighbor telling neighbor,
(13:25):
friend telling friend, mom telling daughter, father telling son, colleague,
telling coworker.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
You are powerful. I need you to use your.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Mouth and of course if you want your keyboard, but
I need you to spread the word. So here are
the message points to make about Prop fifty. First, Prop
fifty is wrong, and you know it. Prop fifty is
rigging the elections. Even Gavin Newsom and the Democrats who
wrote Prop fifty admit that they need to rig the
(13:58):
elections in California because Trump and Texas are rigging their elections.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
They've admitted it, that's what they've said.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
So don't let anyone think that a vote for Prop
fifty is somehow a righteous thing.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
It's not.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
At the very least. It is a wrong that the
ends justifies the means. We're gonna address that in just
a moment. But Prop fifty is rigging the election. And
what does that entail eviscerating something that is quite good,
(14:35):
and that is the citizen's redistricting Commission, people holding the
power to draw the lines, not the politicians. We have
the gold standard in California, the citizens Redistricting Commission. What
we're gonna do with Prop fifty is we're going to
do eviscerat it. We're gonna eliminate it. And it's not temporary,
my friends. Once the politician sees power, they will never
(14:56):
give it back. Plain and they've never supported their independent
redistricting commissioned by citizens. And once they eliminate the commission.
They will never restore it. And then, of course take
a look at who gets hurt. You look at the maps,
and the maps are so unfair. They literally silence large
(15:21):
swaths of voters. Jerry Mandering at its essence, is silencing
blocks of voters, drowning them out so that your block
of voters wins. No matter what, it is undemocratic, it
is predatory. It literally victimizes communities, it silences them.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
There is no justification for that. And I have to
laugh when people say I'm voting for you, Yes, I'm
Prop fifty to save democracy.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Oh, come on, you are not doing anything good for
democracy with Prop fifty.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
In order to save democracy, we must kill it. That's
basically what you're doing. In order to stop Trump, we
must become Trump. According to your criticism.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Of him, everything these people are accusing Trump of doing,
they're absolutely doing themselves. Oh and the best thing is, well,
isn't Prop fifty just you know? You know Texas was
doing it first. Well, there's a big difference here. Number One,
Texas did not voluntarily decide to redraw their maps, which
(16:37):
is the big lie that Newsom and the liberal media
in California are telling us Texas was ordered by a
federal court to redo their maps, and the court case
that triggered that was filed with the support of Joe
Biden's administration.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
You can't make this crap up. The Democrats did this.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
The Democrats put Texas in a position where now they
have to redraw the map. Oh no, you don't hear
that from the lying liberal media out there because they're
part and parcel with the scam. Now, let me be clear.
The fact that Texas has to redraw their map and
Trump is saying, well, draw it so we get five
(17:18):
Republican seats. I think that's wrong, and I don't think
that the governor of Texas nor the legislature should be
drawing a map.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
I've been consistent.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
I believe we should tell them they should use the
California Redistricting Commission model. Every state should do citizens redistricting.
We should have no politicians drawing the lines. Now coming up,
I'm going to share with you the ad that Reform
California put together. We did it on a shoe string budget,
(17:50):
and I think it's quite effective, and I want you
to share the ad because we don't have any money
to really put it anywhere, but we can do viral marketing,
and I believe it is absolutely superior to what the
professional political class put together on the No side. Coming up, Plus,
I also want to tell you what people don't know
about the Redistricting Commission that I think might also move
(18:13):
votes from the Yes side to the No side.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
All that and more.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
Carl Demiele filling in for the John Coleblt Show kf
I Am six forty.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
You're listening to John Cobels on demand from KFI AM
six forty.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Remember, if you miss anything, you can catch up on
the podcast. We post the podcast every day at four
o'clock and you can use that app to send me
a message through the talk back feature or ask me
a question. We're going to get to some of the
first responses that we've got, some of the first questions
in the next segment. Coming up in the next hour,
we're gonna talk about California Voter ID. The signature drive
(18:50):
is underway. We need a million signatures. I'll tell you
what the initiative requires and why it's a game changer
in California, whether or not Prop fifty passes or fails.
Voter ID will be the milestone, the game changer that
we've been waiting for. And then, of course, at three o'clock,
I need to give a response to Gavin Newsom's shutting
(19:12):
down of the five Freeway over the weekend between Orange
County and San Diego across from Camp Pendleton, blaming it
on Donald Trump and now lying lying about somehow shrapnel
hitting vehicles on the freeway and therefore he was justified
in creating a massive bridge gate like traffic jam up.
(19:37):
That's coming up at three o'clock. But first let's return
to our conversation on no on Prop fifty. I am
appalled at how crappy the no on Prop fifty TV
ads are. The Republican consultants in the state of California
are the problem. They are incompetent, and they are corrupt,
(20:00):
and they steal money.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
I'm just going to be very clear.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
They waste money, they're only interested in commission checks a profit,
and they don't care about actually winning elections. What galls
me is the fact that the donors on the Republican
side continue to reward bad behavior like this and incompetence
and grift by hiring the same failed consultants.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. It's awful.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
So after seeing a bunch of lousy No on Prop
fifty ads and then the money dried up at Reform California,
we decided to put together an ad that we believe
nails it. Because here's what you have to do. If
you want to get some of those fifty percent Yes
voters to break away from Gavin Newsom, you've got to
(20:52):
meet them where they are. Most of the ones that
we can win don't like Trump, so we have to
meet them with the fact that they don't like Trump,
but we have to explain that the politicians are just
tapping into your dislike of Trump to get what they've
always wanted.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
And we have to appeal to.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
The fact that these are fair minded people. The ones
that are not fair minded, we're never going to win.
So they're already in the tank for Yes. But the
ones that could be peeled away from Yes to vote
No are truly good people. They're fair minded people, but
they think the ends justify the means, so you have
to you have to address that. So based upon that,
(21:31):
my team put together this ad and we spent are
you ready for it, all of like nine hundred dollars
in hard costs in putting this ad together, and it
features a real teacher, Nadin Ruela, a Latina teacher, a
real teacher, not a paid actor, basically articulating why someone
(21:56):
who may be leaning towards yes should naturally vote no.
It's cut one.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
Why is it wrong to rig the election in California
if Texas is doing it too.
Speaker 7 (22:08):
As a teacher, I often have to explain to kids
why two longs don't make a right and Prop fifty
is a perfect example. Politicians are using your hatred of
Trump to get what they want. Prop fifty takes power
away from you by desdrawing the independent citizens redistricting process,
and Prop fifty waste three hundred million dollars money that
should go to our schools. Rigging elections is wrong, and
(22:30):
two longs don't make a right, don't no, I'm Prop fifty.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
So the first thing you have to do is you
have to frame the question.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
If the question is do you like Trump or not
like Trump, we're going to lose this election because a
lot of California voters are so blinded and so fed
with misinformation that they hate Trump. So you have to
frame it from the question that if they seriously consider
it and answer, it will lead them to the no vote.
(22:59):
And that's why that child, the third grader, is asking,
why is it wrong for California to rig its election?
If Texas is already doing it? So you're already establishing, hey,
it's wrong, but why you know, you know, why is
it wrong if they're doing it? California is rigging the election.
That is not debatable in Prop fifty. There's nothing fair
(23:22):
about the maps. They are unfair by definition. They silence voters.
By definition, it's a jerrymannerd map drawn by politicians, So
why not do that? Why is it wrong for.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
Us to do something wrong? If Texas is doing something wrong?
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Then we transition into well, the politicians are using your
hatred of Trump to get what they've always wanted, and
two wrongs don't make it right. We also throw in
voters don't know that Prop fifty cost three hundred million
dollars in the middle of a budget crisis where they're
cutting education programs and social service programs.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
That money could be better spent in the classroom. So
let's read run cut.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
One so that you can really absorb the arguments, why
is it wrong to.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Rig the election in California if Texas is doing it too.
Speaker 7 (24:10):
As a teacher, I often have to explain to kids
why two longs don't make a right and.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Prop fifty is a perfect example.
Speaker 7 (24:17):
Politicians are using your hatred of Trump to get what
they want. Prop fifty takes power away from you by
destroying the independent citizens redistricting process, and Prop fifty waste
three hundred million dollars money that should go to our schools.
Rigging elections is wrong, and two longs don't make a right.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Don't no, I'm Prop fifty and you've got to see
it because it is a TV ads, is a visual ad,
It's a video ad.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
You have to see it.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
So check it out on my Twitter account, my Facebook account,
my Instagram account, at Carl Demyo, at Carl to Mayo,
or at Carl Demyoca, or just check it out at
Reform California dot org and share it because well, we
don't have the big bucks that Gavin Newsome has, but
we have you and you can spread it far and
wide viral marketing. That is what we have to focus
(25:07):
on in the last two weeks. I just need to
make sure you have the right messaging and hit the
right points, and the ad is pretty simple if you
share it all right, Coming up, we're going to talk
about the corruption on the Republican side as to why
they didn't fight harder to defeat Prop fifty.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
Again.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
I'm not saying the goose is cooked. We still have
a shot to get it below fifty percent, but it's
gonna take everyone on our grassroots side doing the work,
not the professional consultants.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
I'm gonna spill a little t and name a couple names.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Coming up, I'm Carl DeMaio filling in for John Cobolt
on KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
You're listening to John cobelts on demand from KFI AM sixty.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
You know me from my role maybe in the legislature,
but more likely from Reform California, the organization I chair,
and it leads me to discuss the incompetence and the grift,
the malfeasance, the fraud of Republican political consultants in California.
(26:14):
And that's why we're not winning Prop fifty right now.
But if we do win Prop fifty, it's going to
because you, the grassroots, spread the word, not because a
good campaign was run. By these grifting consultants who have
literally failed us.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
I want to.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Remind you you can submit questions to me and I
will not flinch. I will answer any question because I
want you to know really what's going on. I don't
mind my p's and q's. I call balls and strikes,
even if it means Republicans are angry with me. Ask
your question the iHeartRadio app, the talk back feature, and
(26:54):
we're going to get as many of these in as possible.
I know we have one about why aren't Republican Party
officials doing more to stop Prop fifty.
Speaker 8 (27:02):
Let's listen in Hi, Carl, this is Kelly and San Diego.
Thanks for all the hard work you're doing. Thanks for
sitting in for John Will he's gone. I'm interested in
what's being done on the national level to help us
here in California with Prop fifty. Where's the House and
the Senate? Where's Trump for that matter? Can you fill
us in on that? That'd be helpful. Thanks.
Speaker 7 (27:26):
So.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
I do know the President, when asked, makes calls for fundraising,
and his job is to raise my and I do
know that because Prop fifty is so partisan in California
that the decision has been not to involve Trump too much,
but I think at this point we got to go
for broke and I'd love the President to tweet and
(27:49):
weigh in, and I'm hoping he's going to do that
because we need to spike turnout for Republicans and he
needs a light of fire under their rear ends to
get the no votes out.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
That being set, the Republican ay as a whole. Are
you thinking they're gonna come save us?
Speaker 5 (28:03):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Come on, have you not been paying attention to the storyline.
They have left us for dead, honey. They have literally
said that California is not savable, let it rot.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
And I'm angry about that because here's the deal.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
We have fifty two congressional seats and we're about to
lose five, and I think we probably could have gained
five if the Republican Party had least given you and
me some help, a little supply, a drop here and
there for the freedom fighters behind enemy lines. So the
(28:43):
