Speaker 1 (00:04):
What's good everybody. Welcome to the fourth Jordan Player podcast.
Whereas time going. It is Tuesday, November eight, two thousand
and twenty two. Um, we're not coming off of big
Stubbs this weekend. Uh, tough loss to the Jets. We'll
get in a little bit of that. We got more
factor cap. Jeff Saturday becomes the head coach of the

(00:27):
Coach Colts. Interesting topic around the league, Interesting topic around
the country. Uh, smart mafia questions, Mafia mom, I see you.
Uh we also got they hey Jack zero one on
here for some mafia questions. And also my buddy Dean
Marlowe is joining us. Dean, Uh, if you don't know,

(00:49):
you know Buffalo fans know him twenty He was a
big contributor to our Buffalo Bills run runs and a big,
big building blocks what we have built here in Buffalo
so far. And we'll get a chance to holler him
a little later, talk about his journey to Detroit to
Atlanta back to getting traded to Buffalo, and we get

(01:10):
into the big does breakdown. Obviously not big Dubbs this week. Man,
it was tough. Jess came ready and boys came ready.
You know you gotta expect that. Um, boys came ready
to play. You got expect that really every week, you know,
coming in anybody coming in and play the Buffalo Bills
are gonna come ready to play. But uh, you know, um,
we just didn't play that well enough to win. Um

(01:30):
you know that, hey, like you know Von said earlier
in the year, and we lost to uh Dolphense. It's
good medicine. Uh, you gotta use it the right way.
You know, losses like these, you know, I've been a
part of been in this league a long time. Um,
you know these losses where you kind of scratch your
head and wonder, you know, and why didn't go why
didn't go our away this way? Why didn't go our
way that way? Though they come and and from my experience,

(01:53):
just being able to you know, learn from those and
and learn from those experiences and really move on. You know,
if the end of the day, we still have seven
games left to play, you know, or I'm sorry shooting,
I'm tripping, we said nine games up to play. Um,
you know, it's a long season, long season, and uh,
like I said, I'm trying to get healthy, and you

(02:15):
know it's uh, it's tough when especially you're watching the
game and you just man, you know, you're seeing things
and you want to be able to to do to
to go out there really play man. Damn. I was
ready to suit up. It was tough because, um, you know,
just I haven't really had any setbacks, just uh, you know,
some things going on in my elbow. I just you know,
trying to figure out. So I tell you the one

(02:37):
day at a time. Um, you know, but we'll move
on from it. It was, like I said, tough loss.
You know, you know, you look at it. You can
look at it, you know, two ways. Um, you know,
we're still six and two though I still got a
lot of football less we played and we're still a
good football team. So um and to me, we still
got the best quarterback in the game, you know, even
though I know he said after the game, it's tough

(02:58):
to win this league, you know, playing a good team
and quarterback plays like crap. You know it too. It happens.
But and at the end of the day, I arribed
with Josh, like I said, every all time, any day
of the week. And you know he I love that
about him though, you know, being able to to really
you know, and nobody played good, you know, and you
know it's kind of been ever since the second half

(03:20):
of it was a Green Bay game, We've kind of
had some hiccups and you know, we've got to figure
things out and then we will. I have no doubt
about it that we will. But you know, I love
a guy like that who who's our leader, and you
know it takes it with the chess, takes you know,
and um, you know, takes the media questions and you
know he owns it. And Uh, like I said, I
arrived with Josh any day of the week, man, and
games like that happened. It's the NFL. You know, it's

(03:41):
the NFL. You gotta come ready to play each week,
each each and every week, you know. UM, those guys
get paid to UM. You know, no matter what the
record is, who who's out there playing, UM, you gotta
come ready to play each and every week. And you know, UM,
it's something that we'll definitely learn from, UM and continue
to grow and continue to move on fromm UM. But

(04:03):
I think you know, you know, we'll start, especially when
you start getting guys healthy. Man. UM. You know, Matt
coming back, hopefully, Travis coming back soon, myself coming back. UM,
and you know it's, uh, it's a long season, and
we got the right group of guys in the locker
room to be able to handle that and move on
from it. And uh, you know, we got a big

(04:24):
game coming up at home this weekend. Who Vikings Red
Hot Vikings Man seven and one Kirk Cousins out there
on the plane with the chains going crazy. So it's funny,
but now it's uh, you know, it's a good football team.
So and really talented, really talented obviously Dalt Cook talent

(04:45):
talented as hell. Um, you know, really talented in space
and using them in so many different ways. And then
you know, obviously justin Jefferson, um on the outside, just
being able to you know, just really attack the deep ball.
Um you know, runs runs so many routes. Um. Just
really soft football too, you really good defense. Um. You know,

(05:07):
you know Harry is coming back. Shout out Harrison Phillips
and he's coming back home. I know he's hyped about
this game. So UM, I think, you know, I think, well,
you know, we gotta obviously come ready to work. Man.
Um it's uh, you know, had today I had today
to kind of get the bodies right, get healthy. Um,
gotta come ready to work tomorrow, you know, in order
to be successful on Sunday. So, um, you know, we're

(05:28):
excited about the opportunity and it's it's really just one
day at the time, and you know, um, learn from it,
move on obviously. You know the people are gonna say this,
people are gonna say that. You can't pay attention to that.
You can't. You can't get into that, um, because it
doesn't matter at the end of the day. You know,
when you're winning, people are gonna say this. When you

(05:49):
when you lose, people are gonna say that. And the
day it doesn't matter. None of it matters a factor.
Caps segment, just Saturday becomes the head coach of the
Colds about any experienced um Joyce Joy Taylor states, the
Colts hiring Jeff Saturday, a coach with no experience other
than high school football, can't be serious higher. I do

(06:11):
believe that it is a serious higher joy not a
fake higher. It's a it's a it's an interesting topic,
you know, um all around, uh, because you could kind
of go both ways. You know, I've never met Jeff Saturday.
I'm sure he's a great, great person. Seeing him on
TV He's played a lot of football in this game.

(06:31):
I know he understands the game of football at least,
you know one side. He's been a captain. He was
a captain on his football team, his football the Colts
for a long time. UM. He played with Peyton Manning,
UM won a Super Bowl and UM, so you know,
very knowledgeable football guy. Uh. Is he a head coach?

(06:54):
I don't know. I don't know the situation between him
and the owner. I don't know their relationships. Uh. UM.
But I think the interesting topics that you know, a
lot of people have sayd like Rob Parker, he states
the hiring Jeff Saturdays and slap in the face to
even the minority coach in the NFL. I think you
can argue that's the slap in the face all the
coaches in the NFL. UM. You know, if he was UM,

(07:16):
if he was a black, UH minority coach, interim head
coach who didn't have the same experience as Jeff Saturday,
you could argue that that is a slap in the
face to every coach who is pushing to be a
head coach and who has You know, I feel some
type of way from some of the coaches you know
they coach me. You know they all a lot of

(07:36):
the coaches that coach me deserve head coaching job somewhere
in this league. So you know what is what messages
you know does that send to you know, those coaches
around league? And I get it, you know, Rob Parker,
that's a fair statement to say it's a slot of face,
especially to the minorities coaches in the NFL. But to me,
you could go even further to every coach in the NFL.

(07:57):
If I was a coach of the FIL I would
feel some type of it's just you know, it's okay.
So at what point, you know, you work so hard
to get to certain spots in your career, you know,
an opportunity you know opens up and boom. You know
a coach who who you know, his his his highest
high school or his highest highest coaching experiences high school.

(08:19):
And that's not taking anything away from him, um, because
then you can flip around to it. As a player,
I think it's kind of I think it's kind of cool,
you know, you get in Look, there's a lot of
great coaches in this league, and I'm lucky enough to
play with play for a lot of really good coaches.
But I've been in this league a long time. A

(08:40):
lot of not really good, not so good coaches in
this league. And you know, you get a guy like
Jeff Saturday, who's played in the league, has been in
the league. Um who who's who's won in this league,
and who's a leader in this league, and you get
you know, maybe you know, obviously he's gonna have guys
around him. He's gonna have men around him to help him. Um.

(09:00):
And you know, I think that that experience and loan
and you know, like Mike Brebel, I think Mike Brabel
is an awesome head coach, you know. And that's just
a guy who's played and who understands the game, understands
how to get to his players. Um. And And you know,
I respect that about a lot of coaches who have coached,
you know, because I don't know if I can do that.

(09:20):
But playing tender, I've played ten years in the league.
I don't know if I can go on and continue
to coach. And so I respect a lot of the
coaches who have played in the league and and they
are now coaching and and and sharing their experience and
sharing their their their value and knowledge to to guys
like myself and so um, as a player, I think
it's cool. You know, I don't know what the what

(09:42):
the bojo is in that in that locker room. Obviously
they're probably not playing up to the standard they want
to be playing, so it's probably pretty frustrating. But you
get a guy like Jeff Saturday, you know, guy who's played,
who understands who who who, who has feel Um, you know,
I think I think it could go. I think it
could be good and I would in my and I
wouldn't be surprised if if it if it does, Um,

(10:04):
you know, I hope it. I hope it is good.
And I don't think we play on my arts guy show.
So um you know maybe you know who knows, but um,
I think that Uh, I think it could be good.
Um you know, if if handled the right way. But
we'll see, Tom will tell. That's just my opinion, um,
and and that's what I'm here to do, give you

(10:25):
some of my opinions. Shout out to e C. M C.
Is awesome to be able to partner with you, guys.
Also shout out to the Austin Air Pirefiers, Bills, Mafia Babes,

so this would be tomorrow. UM, so this would be

in the main lobby of e c MC. UM. If

(11:07):

just want to continue to, you know, try to give
back to those in need. UM. Trying to be positive
in this world. I encourage everyone to continue to be positive. UM.
Tell somebody love them. Uh. Teest some you care about them.
Uh tellt someone a if you need something, I'm here
for you. A little things like that go a long way.

(11:54):
So I appreciate everyone tuning into the fourth Jordan Poyer Podcast.
But those Vikings Vikings at Bills this Sunday. I don't
think it's a night game, but uh, big game at home.
We're excited to be back home again. They got two
home games in a row, one game at a time.
But I'm excited to be back home. Uh. Starting to

(12:14):
get a little chilly out here in Buffalo, New York.
You see him in my hoodie, my big hoodie. These
hoodies are probably gonna start getting bigger and bigger each week. Uh,
so don't be surprised. I appreciate you guys for tuning
in until next time. See then check me out though

(12:44):
in his eight season out of j M you James
Madison University. I got my dear friend and teammate with me.
Jordan's joining the Jordan Poyer Podcast. My guy, Dean Marlowe Dino.
I appreciate you joining, bro. What is good? I'm doing good, Bro,
appreciate you having me all pro po. Yes, sir, I

(13:07):
was just about to say, Dino undrafted and Chat went
to Carolina from him and I were teammates in Buffalo. Uh,
went on a couple of good runs, man, it was
a lot of fun. Dino decided to leave Buffalo and
go on his own and went off to Detroit. He

(13:28):
went off to Atlanta, and now he's back home where
he belongs in Buffalo, New York with his boys, with
his team. Uh, Dino, man, I just want to talk
to you a little bit about, you know, a little
bit about your transition from Buffalo to Detroit. First, let's
talk about your time in Buffalo beforehand. Bro, we had
some we have some good times bro back back back

(13:49):
back in those days. That thing was a brotherhood. Man.
You already held me you Michael uhawn. We had j
T back then, and that should I was freaking. It
was an honor for me to play what you guys.
I enjoyed every man, every last minute, man. And it
was we created something special. We were able to see

(14:10):
the growth from the organization back in seen when we
made the playoffs that first year, and just every year
we just kept laying bricks, kept stacking, stacking, stacking, and uh,
you know, we built this thing with a Brandon and
Sean from the ground up. Bro, and as I wanted
to get into that a little bit as a couple
of questions for you and a little bit. Uh. That

(14:30):
was my last question I was gonna ask you. But
the first question I want to ask you was your
transition from Buffalo to Detroit and then and then moving
on from Detroit to Atlanta. Um, you know I've I've
and then obviously from Atlanta to to to Buffalo. And
I've never been traded before. I've only been on This
is my third team. I was drafted the Philly went

(14:53):
to UH, went to Cleveland. Uh, Philly cut me, went
to Cleveland, played there for three and a half years.
They didn't want me back. So now in Buffalos my
six year in Buffalo, but then you were in You
were in Buffalo all those years and Bro, like you
a baller, always deserved to go get your your glory
and your shine went to Detroit. What happened? Yeah? You do?

(15:16):
You know, you know, just to leave, leave that blue
collar organization in Buffalo. I didn't know if I wanted
to leave. I was like, should I go get mine?
I'm like, I'm playing with two all pros, I'm learning
from the best, from the best tenon that there is
in the league. Uh. And man, maybe I can use
that talent and go elsewhere to kind of you know,

(15:38):
create something for me. UM. And you know, well, at
the end of the day, it's a production based business
and you gotta get out there and do yours like
you always say so. So going to Detroit, UM, it
was a little bit of a culture shot. You know.
I was the first time, UM that I was a
VET on a on a rebuilding squad. UM and me

(16:01):
I had to take a leadership role in any way,
shape or form to you know, to help young guys
around me. Uh, to learn a new defense that I've
been in for I would say probably what five five,
six years UM, Which that was never the problem, but
it was. It was great to see on the on
the other side of the spectrum, UM, what other teams

(16:23):
looked like. UM as a VET, and you know it
was we we we struggled, to be honest. Uh, we
didn't do as well that we thought that we would do. UM.
You know, we had a lot of coaches that were
former players that we thought that could help, you know,
progress all the guys on the team. But it was.
It was rough, um and we hit a lot of

(16:43):
adversity for sure. UM. So we ended up going with
three and thirteen I think last year. UM. And you know,
we weren't too happy with that. Everyone said, yes, the
first year, the whole new regime. You know, Detroit is
gonna change. UM, We're gonna build something there. And you know,

(17:04):
just between yeah, bro, it's just between you know, me
and the organization. It was it was best for us
and just part ways, UM, and for me to go
seek another opportunity. UM. And there led me to you know,
going to Atlanta, UM where they were in the second
year of their regime. So I'm thinking, hey, like they

(17:25):
kind of had to figure it out a little bit.
They learned. Um, there was hardships, you know, there was
there was good times. Now they're trying to figure out,
you know, what they want to do and win. Uh.
So that that brought me there for the first eight
weeks of the season, and you know, we're playing well,
we were first in the division. Uh. You know, we
were kind of inconsistent, losing, winning, losing, losing, winning winning. Uh.

(17:49):
You know, I was able to get out there and
play contribute on special teams that on defense. UM, and
then you know, trade deadline comes. What was that like,
tell you and tell you you can't tell you being
traded and then back to Buffalo. For a matter of fact,
I'll tell everybody that I said, I'll watch your games, bro,
y'all my bros. Uh, there's nothing like watching y'all on
Sundays when I'm not playing. UM, I feel like a

(18:10):
damn fan, you know. You know, we were every every
couple of weeks, you know, checking in on each other.
All right, So so you get the call being traded
back to Buffalo. What was what was some of your
first initial reactions like what what would you feel like? Bro?
I was sitting on the couch, me and me and
wife we were talking about they are what um what

(18:34):
new words Sloan was you know, trying to say? And
I'm sitting there. I get the call from Arthur Smith
and he's like, yeah, you know, Buffalo you know called
me and you know we think it's a better opportunity
for opportunity for you to go back, and you know
what they're dealing with. UM, And I was just I
was kind of shocked, bro, that I was sitting there like, damn, yeah,

(19:01):
that would be crazy. I was. I was shot and
I was I was like, yeo. I called. I called wife,
you back and I told her and she was like
you are you serious? She was like, I'm gonna be
back with Amanda, Hi, Rachel. She was like, I'll be
back with everybody. And she was. She started crying and

(19:23):
because you know, you know our room and our team,
you know, it's it's it's not even it's more than
the team. Man. We got were family over there. So
all right, Dean, we gotta segment on here called the
Mafia Questions. Um, so we got we got a couple
of good questions. I think they'd be interested in here
in your your perspective, your point of view from mafia mom. Hey,

(19:45):
mafia mom. Who is the hardest running back to tackle
in the open field? One on one? Oh man? First,
I'll let your first. I'm gonna put this out there
first of all, in the open field human, it does

(20:08):
not matter who it is. It's probably the hardest technique
to do on the football field. So but you gotta
do it like you have to do it like you
just it's a it's more of a mindset than anything.
But the hardest to me it's got to be like
in the open field, like one on one. It's got

(20:32):
to be Derrick Henry. I was just I was I
was gonna say that, or I wasn't even gonna say
Cordell Patterson. I mean I was with him in Atlanta,
for I've seen him run somebody. I've seen him run
somebody over man. He c p he a different breed.
He um. He the same size as as Derrick Henry.

(20:54):
And he running, I mean, he looks he's out for blood.
He's out for blood here like a yeah. And you
and you got to be able to trying to bring
him back sixth board to thirty five and running just
like Derrick Henry. So you know that's it's the big dude.
It's the I can't even name somebody specific. I just

(21:16):
got a name, the big fast like Josh type, size
and speed. When you got size and speed, that's the
market right right right like seventeen all right, Hey Jack,
the hey Jacks ever one to ask what's your favorite
thing about being a Buffalo bill Um, I guess I'll

(21:39):
go first. Dean already had mentioned it. I just the
brotherhood that we had built. I think it's dope. I
think it's more of like a college fraternity, not college
fraternity at college football team. In a sense, it's just
like it's crazy how long a lot of us have
been there together, have have left and came back, and
you know, all of our families know each other. Buffalo.

(22:01):
Don't get mad at me. I've said there's some other
ineviews before, and I got a lot of crap from it.
But there's really not a whole lot to do in Buffalo,
and so we all hang out with each other, we
all care with each other, we all go out to
they eat with each other, especially in the wintertime. So um,
but that's my that's my favorite thing about being uh
you know, go ahead, deeve what you got. Damn. I
I remember the highways just how it was like it

(22:23):
was yesterday. I'm sitting there, I'm like, oh, I remember this,
and Buffalo was a blue college city that just you
gotta be able, you gotta be in it you got
or you gotta be from it to really cherish like
the small little hidden gems that they got here. Obviously,

(22:43):
the weather sucks. You know, we don't get a lot
of sun for what four months, four to five months,
but for the most part. I mean, I'm already seen
it right now. This team, Man's just is a family,
and you don't really find that in the league. Man,
it's a it's a selfish, selfish league. And you had
a whole bunch of unselfish dudes on one NFL team,

(23:05):
and that's that's truly special facts. Bro Dino, bro I
appreciate you hopping on Man and and hopping on the
Jordan Player podcast. You're actually my first guest. You know
that my first appreciate that he was more of my
upper co host. So you're my first guest my fourth show.
We're gonna keep it going. Maybe you get on again
sometime in the future. Bro Um, I appreciate you hopping
on again. I'm actually seeing tomorrow at work. So uh,

(23:28):
like I said, I appreciate you. Broke
