Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, Jesse, It min ins the Torrea. It's nice to
meet you.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Nice to meet you.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
How has your day been. I was looking over a
few things, and first off, congratulations, I mean, this past
year looked insane for you. I mean, just thinking off
top of my head. You had your album come out,
you went on tour, you performed at some like pretty
big festivals, including Coachella, and you got an ACM nomination. Like, congratulations,
(00:27):
And I didn't know this, but you're only twenty years old,
Like that's insane. Congratulations. How do you feel coming off
that year.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
I feel really grateful for everything that's happening right now.
I'm having a great time. I'm also really tired, but
I'm really I feel really grateful and excited and like,
I mean, I'm living my wildest dream, so I can't
complain too much.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
You know, is there one specific moment from last year
that stuck out to you the most that had like
a major either like impact or it was just a
real like turning point where like, oh my gosh, like
this is insane.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
I played the arena in my hometown. It's my first
arena show. I sold out. That was probably the best
moment of my whole life. Well, I think that's got
a top. But there were a couple of crazy things
last year. I got to collab with my dream artist
towards the end of the year, which no one knows
about yet, but yeah, probably those two things.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
That's awesome. Did you get a lot of family members
and like friends who've got to come out and see
you perform at your arena show?
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Absolutely? That was the best part. Is like all the
people I loved were in one room and we all
got to celebrate together after and stuff. So it was
really cool.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Oh that sounds so special and like magical. That sounds fun.
That Also, speaking of collaborations with your with the new
song coming out, but your album had some pretty big
collaborators as well.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
On it.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
I saw like Bailey Zimmerman, Teddy Swims, Jelly Roll. Like
was there I don't want to say, like pick a
favorite because those all sound pretty amazing to me, but like,
was there a moment from any of those sessions or
anything like that that was maybe like a dream come
true kind of moment or like, wow, this is the
amazing experience.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
I mean, they were all incredible in their own way.
That's tough, dude, Like picking a favorite song. Baby, I
don't know. They feel like my kids, not the collaborators,
but why, I don't know. They're all special. I mean
specifically like with Teddy, just being in a room with him,
getting able to hear him sting live his voice is ridiculous.
(02:36):
That was really cool. Failey's a sweetheart, so that was
really fun. And I mean the Jelly Roll one is
just like been so great and I've loved getting to
know him and his family. It's been so special. They're
really special people and just great people in general of them.
So I don't know. I yeah, I that album had
the best the best people on it, you know, So
(02:58):
that was really cool.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
That's amazing. You went on tour last year and you're
going on tour this year, which sounds crazy, Like that's amazing,
and it's also your first it's not your first, but
it's your headline worldwide tour, Like that's crazy, like just
to me, like thinking of but is there one thing
that you plan to do different with this tour that
(03:20):
didn't happen or that maybe you realized last tour that
you wanted to change.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Well, I think in the previous tours and I wasn't
really doing like choreography I didn't have. I wasn't like
dancing or like doing any of the things I'm doing now,
which is going to be a whole different situation. I'm
like doing stunts, daring my show to something I've always
wanted to do. Coming from a cheerleading background, I'd always
be in cheer and be like my dream would be
(03:47):
able to be on top of a stunt and be
able to stand like that's my dream situation to do that.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Oh my gosh, Wait, that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Okay, yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Is it hard harder to sing like while you're was
it like it's the flyer?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Right?
Speaker 1 (04:04):
My stepsister did her. I did not do cheer, but
like that isn't that's like the flyer? Is that harder
to sing up there? I mean you have to like
keep a balance while you're you.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Know, I haven't actually tried to sing up there yet.
I did it at Coachella, but without a mic, So
now I got to sack up and try out with
a mic. But I don't know. I guess we'll find out.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Okay, Well, speaking of Coachella, how was that? In my opinion,
Coachelle is one of, if not the biggest like music festivals.
I don't want to stay in the world, like in
the world, Like that's a crazy experience. How was that?
Speaker 2 (04:36):
It was so so beautiful. That was such a special
moment for me. My family was there. Anytime my family's
there makes it so much special because if they mean
so much to me. But I don't know. I've tried
to be really hyper present when I was playing Coachella
and just connect to my inner child a lot and
think about how she would feel to be doing that,
and that made that experience so special. But I don't
(04:58):
know that that was one of my favorite moments my
career so far.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
I think, how do how do you like I don't
thinking of like Coachella, Like those are big stages and
I know you formed another big stages similar, but uh,
like how do you make sure to stay present while
also still like performing and like making sure like you
sound good and trying to like make sure everything's perfect,
(05:21):
but at the same time realize, like, oh my god,
like this is Coachella, this is like crazy, it's insane, It's.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I don't know, dude. I think like for me, rooting
everything in the center of like gratitude and just trying
to remember that. Like I can be anxious about forgetting moves,
I can be anxious about messing up the lyrics or
forgetting something. But I think at the bottom of it
all is like I'm so blessed to be here, and
like it's something I've been working hard for for the
(05:49):
past since I was like fourteen, you know, so I
think just rooting it in gratitude has always kept me
pretty like same.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah, dang, that's just like sounds crazy but amazing. Was
there anyone else from Coachella who you got to see
perform who were really excited to watch.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
I saw Meg thee Stallion, which was crazy. Oh I
love her. I'm obsessed with her. She is so good live.
I was like, wow, so inspiring to watch. I watched Jenny,
which was my first time seeing her, so ened the
superstar they both are. It was so so inspiring.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
I recently got into Jenny's music and Lisa and then
I found out there were a band before that, and
I was just like.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
I was crazy, there's so much to know, right.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
I was like I came into the studio, I was like,
oh my gosh. Guys like Victoria like, girl, you need
to calm down. But I was like, no, like, this
is insane so much.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Is there anyone who you would be besides the person earlier?
But like dream collaboration across any genres of music like
Meg thee Stallion or Jenny or anyone like that, like
dead or al I've dead or alive. Elvis Presley, Oh
oh dang, that's a good one. I've ever heard that? Dang.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Okay, yeah, yeah, that'd be my work really grew.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Were you a big Elvis Presley fan growing up?
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Always? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Oh dang, okay, what about a live It's like, okay,
so like we can't dorive with Pressley, But like.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
I think a lot of my dream clabs are actually
on this album that's coming out, so like I can't.
I feel like I can't like.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
To say that's that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
But somebody I just Adele I probably wouldn't want to
collaborate with because I admire her too much. I like
I can't. I don't even I don't even want to
have a conversation with her ever, I just want to.
I just want to tell her a lover.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
I've thought about that with certain people, Like I don't
think I ever need to like talk to that person
or like see that. I just want to be like
in the space and just be like I love you.
That's all that's all you need, Yes, you know all
that's needed.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Well.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
I also saw recently congrats on your ACM nomination, like insane.
But I also on the red carpet, was that you
brought a pig?
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Was it? Your pig is a family friends pig, but
he was my date for the day, and I call
it a success. I think we had a great time.
God forbid a girl brings a pig on the carpet,
you know, right, like you try to like mix it up,
like who's this say, like that's your date? Ain't no,
Like no one can tell real man on the carpet
(08:38):
with me?
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Like I'm sorry, what is it like bringing a pig
to a show like that? Because I've thought about I
only have a cat, but like even bringing that to anything,
like did the pig have to go to the bathroom
at any point of the show or no?
Speaker 2 (08:54):
He was like so well mannered, which you didn't have
to be. I would have I would have done anything,
you know, I was up for anything. I was expecting,
Like I also thought it was would be a lot
quicker than it was. But then everybody wanted to say
hi to him, but he was so zen and like chill,
and then waited till we left the room and then
went to the bathroom like he was so I don't know,
(09:16):
he was made for that life.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
I guess, like, now you got to bring him on
tour with me? Like he obviously loves the spotlight. He
loves people, He loves the spotlight.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
I'm like, Willbur, like, oh my god, would you ever
bring a pet on tour with you?
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Or do you have any pets that you bring on tour?
Speaker 2 (09:37):
I don't have any pets, but I do want I
want a very tiny dog. I used to want a
miniature pick, but then I found out they don't say miniature,
so that can't happen. Well, what's the smallest breed of dog?
You think?
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Ooh, like a teacup? Something like a teacup like Yorky
or teacup palmery. Those are tiny. But see, i'd be
scared of like trip on them or step on them
on accident, like those.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Tiny, right, don't you get a little nervous? But it
would be really fun. I'm just like, that'd be really cute,
it'd be really cute. I debate it sometimes and I'm like,
I don't know if I'm I don't know if I'm
like parental enough yet you know.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Oh I feel that. Yeah, okay, that's fair. Well you're
when is wait when's your birthday?
Speaker 2 (10:19):
You September twenty second?
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Oh gosh, wait, so you turn twenty one this year.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
M hmm, that's weird. That's weird. Girl.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
I felt the same way, but I just turned twenty five.
Let me tell you, it doesn't get better. It just
feels weirder and I feel older.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Really, it's like you look great, Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Thank you, but that's I'm still.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Not.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
I don't know, just like you're twenty years old doing
all of this just feels very crazy to me. But
whenever you were younger, was there a time where you're like, no,
this is going I'm this is going to be what
I do for my job, this is what I'm like committed,
I this is what I want, or like, were you
ever deciding to do anything different?
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Absolutely? I was. I remember sitting my mom down. I
think I was like twelve or thirteen. I sat her down.
I had posted like nothing yet I just like in
my heart, I knew that this was what I was
going to do, no matter what I was going to
try until the day I died. I sat her down
and I was like, I'm gonna be singer, Like, this
is what I'm gonna do, And of course would know
(11:25):
like proof. She's like like, but I don't know. I'm
a big believer in like manifestation and putting things into
the universe. But yeah, I would always journal about it,
and I remember like staying up all night recording tiktoks
like for months on end. So it's emily a grind,
(11:45):
but we're here.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
No, that's exciting. Were you ever nervous about posting on TikTok,
like just because of how I mean social media can
be great, but it can also be terrible sometimes. But
were you ever nervous or like know if I should
post this or post that?
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Dude, one hundred percent, especially when in high school, like
that is a scary thing to do. I was a
bold bitch for doing that. Like now I look back
and I'm like, oh, that's scary. I don't know. I
think also the whole thing of like COVID happening, and
I had the space from people. So I'm like, they're
going to make fun of me, but I at least
it'll be over online, you know, the post like it's
(12:26):
it's scary, and like, as much as you shouldn't care
what people think, there's always a little part of you
that's like, is this weird? You care?
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Yeah, but I think it's just a human emotion that's normal.
It'd be weird if I didn't feel that at all.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Yeah, we is Was there anything before the Singing Dream
that if some like not say if it didn't work out,
but that you were going to do instead, Like I
had a girl.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
I watched legally Blonde, and I wanted to go to
Hardward for like a month in sixth grade. But I
think there's a picture for me holding a son, like
wherever I go to college and I rodet Harvard but
it didn't happen.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
I like how it lasted for a month because of Blonde.
I feel the same way. I watch things for a
month and I'm like, guys, I'm changing career paths to Victoria.
Please don't ever tell her boss that.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Like, dude, people people say that they watched Gray's Anatomy
and they leave and they're like I want to be
a doctor. I've never watched it. I feel like that
happened to me.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
You've never seen it. It's so good.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
I've rewatched it.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
But you're gonna want to be a doctor after because
I thought about it multiple times. But I don't have
I'll be honest with myself. I don't have capacity to
hold any of that information.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
And there's probably so much you have to learn, like,
oh my god, Well, it's been great talking to you.
Last question, how how excited.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Are you for your tour this year and what can
fans expect? What was there like anything else you want
them to know.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Or I I'll say this, I think everyone should wear pink,
and that's all I'll say. I think everyone should wear
light pink, specifically the shade shrinking violet. And that's all
I'm gonna say.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Oh, Okay, I love that. I'm a fan of that. Okay,
Well awesome, Well thank you so much for chatting with me.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Thank you, Victoria
