Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everybody, Welcome back to the K Factor, Everything k
Pop hosted by your hosts Bomhan, and today we're gonna
be delivering you the latest.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
K pop news live from New York right now.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
I am in New York and also happening in New
York right now is the Megala, and the Megala this
year features a whole bunch of K pop acts.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
This year.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
We have black Paints Lisa, we have black Paints Rose,
and we have black Pinks Jenny. Also, we have s
Coops from seventeen at the Megala this year.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
And they served looks.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
I love each and every single one of their outfits,
and apparently the magazines did as well, because Jenny was
ranked number four on the best dressed list of all
of Megala, right behind I think do Chi. Some of
you fact check me on that, but yeah, everyone was great,
and the theme was it was I think it was
tailored to you. That was the official dress code, and

(01:05):
it was kind of like, uh, restylizing these tailored looks
from like kind of these historical times, and s Coops
took that historical times theme and ran with it, and
he had a hunt Book inspired outfit representing Korean culture
which I thought was beautiful because it's not it was
it's such a new thing for K pop acts to

(01:27):
kind of appear in these events, and for Scoops to
show up alone from his group of one hundred and
seven members and bring Korean culture with him is is
so beautiful. And I'm such a huge fan of seventeen
and I thought that was that was just an amazing
thing for him to do. Lisa, Rose and Jenny also
wore their own individual brands that they were sponsored by,

(01:48):
and Jenny, our ball figurehead for Coco Chanel, wore an
all Chanelle outfit featuring black and white tones and it
looked amazing and she served looks. Lisa wore a black
lace outfit with the soilhouettes of historical black figures, uh
from just from from across like history, you know, and

(02:10):
it was these little soiloetta that printed on her Louis
Baton outfit and that's what she wore to the Megala
and as she ate, and she ate a little bit
too hard, and the Internet is now going crazy over
black pink Lisa's outfit. And this is because unfortunately, not
by faults of her own, maybe Louis Baton, but we

(02:33):
had Rosa Parks landing in the underwear of Lisa, and
Lisa walked around the Megala with Rosa Parks and the
internet was going crazy. They're like, there, there she goes,
Lisa has black in her pink and that is not good.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
That is that is not good at all. It is
not a great look.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
However, uh as you know, these artists, the celebrities, they're
styled by somebody, and unfortunately the team didn't catch it.
And hopefully they can do better in the future and
they can be more sense about these.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Topics, you know.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
And another hot internet topic for kind of the Day
today is a group that I'm a personal fan of
called Fantasy Boys, and they're a group debuted from a
survival show that took place and on one of their
recent live streams, they were showing very obvious international distress
signals and I.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Was when I first saw it, I was like, oh, hey, okay,
that's cool.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
That's like a new like group sign like we're gonna
we're gonna do our ending fairies like this. Oh hey
boom bam bob, you know, And and then it started
getting a little serious. Their faces were looking a little
bit more grim and then they kept on doing it
over and over and we're like, oh, okay, this is
a little concerning now, but you know, it's probably nothing big.

(03:46):
And then they'll go on like a music show and
they'll do it, and then they'll go and do it
on a live stream and we're like, Okay, something might
be wrong.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
And I wanted to bring this to kind of the front.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Stage so that there could be some action taken, maybe
by a fan or by the company, and you know, if.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
It's serious or if it's not too serious, we'll never know.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
If it's not too serious, maybe they're they're maybe they're
a little bit too booked on their schedule.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Hopefully they can have a little.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Bit more leniency so that they don't have to resort
to a boom bam bop.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
You know.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
If it's a little bit more serious, then that's out
of our hands and we're just going to bring attention
to it and hopefully, uh there can be action taken.
You know, Fantasy Boys, we are rooting for you and
hopefully everything will be okay, and good luck.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Step you away from boy groups for a second.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
We have g Idyle, a girl group and g Idle
rebrands officially to the name Idle before the release of
their upcoming album.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
We Are this combination of kind of the.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Upcoming album and and like the rebrand. It seems like
a strong statement about their new identity. They released the
track list pretty recently and looking through it, it seems pretty interesting.
So I'll definitely be tuning in to g the Idol's
new album or My Bad Idol. It seems to be
a big move. Seems to be a big move moving
forward with girl groups. We have clips of Espa's.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Music video being leaked. The music video.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Showcases the concept that I kind of don't want to
bring up here because I think it's a little disrespectful
to the artist to keep talking about leaks but the
group's But the reason why I bring it up is
because one of the group's members, Nick Ning, expresses her
frustration and her disappointment online following the news, which I
think is a very brave thing to do.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
She went a little far.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
She was like, oh my god, we are doomed, and
that that's a little far. But I think it's very
brave to express your disappointment and your frustrations to your
fans that way.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
And I think that having your stuff leaked.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
What it feels like is is you're building a lego
set for eight months, because these comebacks they take usually
like four months to even maybe like two years. And
you're building this concept, you're recording your songs, you're you're
doing your hair, and you're all these things, and all
the meanwhile, you're probably promoting something else, or you're doing
your live streams, and you're trying your best and out

(06:07):
let the fans figure out for literally four months to
two years, and all of a sudden, someone just comes
in and kicks over your lego set and defrustration and
that disappointment. I really empathize with the group, even though
I didn't have any incidents like this. I think is
a super terrible thing to go through. So good for
them for speaking up. In May eleventh, if you live

(06:28):
on the West Coast, or you actually if you live
in America, you should be here. S Town is having
performances on May eleventh in La featuring tv XQ Super Junior,
Key Minho of shiny Suho, Tanyor Kai of XO, Red
Velvet Set one two seven Set, Dream Wavy Espa Rise Set,

(06:49):
Wish Nevus, and Hearts The Hearts so if you want
to provide your support for these groups, you can get
a ticket and it's very very soon, so get it
and go now while tickets still last.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Speaking of concerts, we have Day six. Day six is
one of my kind of personal favorite groups.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
I've been listening to them on the train in high
school for like almost my whole life, like from their
debut all the way to their songs from now. And
they had a concert recently in Jakarta where it was
kind of unfortunate circumstances and it was hot and it
was causing like heat strokes for fans and all this stuff,
and it wasn't like a good environment for fans to
be in. And Day six took to the internet to

(07:29):
kind of call out these conditions and apologize, and it
shows like a deep concern and love for their fans,
which I also really appreciate. Even though like the concert
experience wasn't what the fans were expecting also what the
band members weren't expecting. I'm still happy that they were
able to go to a place like Jakarta and bring
K pop life and community there and hopefully they can

(07:51):
learn from this mishap and they can find promotion companies
that take better care of.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Of the demand that is K pop.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
You know, I find that a lot of the times
when these things happen in these K pop concerts, the promoters,
the venue holders, they underestimate the power of K pop,
They underestimate how much like love and support that there is,
and they don't do the necessary things. So as we
continue to grow, as K pops continues to spread across

(08:23):
the world, hopefully these these companies can take these kind
of problems more serious. And also a lot of people
coming to these events in these concerts, they're kind of
a little bit younger, you know, so it's unfortunate that
these people were exposed to us to such terrible conditions
just because they wanted to show love and support for
something that they really care about. So they go, they

(08:46):
take to their social media and they call it out
and they take accountability, which I think is beautiful and
hopefully everybody can learn and move forward from this. And
I'm also sorry to the fans who attended that had
to go through these terrible circumstances, but just know that
you guys are hopefully contributing something greater as well. Moving
on from day six, we have XC had a new
song called Love Language, and it features a move from

(09:08):
Taman's Guilty that sparks outrage from fans. And the move
that I'm talking about is they take their hand and
they go under the shirt and they kind of like
chow themselves and then they show their.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Abs, and I'm like, nice.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
You know, there's not a lot of creative ways you're
gonna go and show off your abs and like lift
up your shirt.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
You know. I checked the video.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
It was very similar. It's very similar. And then people
were accusing them of copying and.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Like all these things.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
And for me, it's not my position to say it
because I am not Tayman. I'm not the choreographer for
the for the move. However, I think that art takes
a certain level of inspiration, and I think the concept
and the idea of it was that they want They
saw it from Taman and they liked it and they
enjoyed it, and they want to do something similar, and
they wanted to the subject of the of the move

(09:57):
was showcasing the artists, and they want to do it
in a similar way.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
You know.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
I would have liked for it to have been inspired
and then had like a touch of t XT that
made a little bit different and then we can move
forward from there, and then the next group also is
inspired and has their own touch, you know, but it's
a little bit similar.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
It's it's it's a lot of bit the same. So, uh,
the ideas there, the ideas there, we're building on.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
We're inspired and we create art that is that that
is that is adjacent. But yeah, they're not really adjacent.
They're kind of in the same room. So the fans
are a little bit outrage. I understand where the fans are
coming from, but I kind of I hope that we
can we continue moving forward, you know. I think there's
a there's a step forward. It's not a big step forward,
but it's like it's like it's like this much and

(10:52):
unfortunately it could have been like this, but like it's
like this, you know. And in my opinion, the most
important news BT is soon back together. Every single day
I wake up, I pray to my junk Kok' shrine
and I'm like, when will BTS be back? And we
are one month away from the being discharged officially.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
And and he he, he was good. He was good.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
Every single one of the of the members of BTS
they're they're they're they're putting on weight, they're they're adding
more muscle to their frame, and and it kind of
it's so awesome to see because it's not the traditional
beauty standard that existed in kpop for like the past
ten or so years, you know. So they're ticking, they're

(11:37):
they're they're growing as an artist, and they're also growing
as as athletes, and we love to see it. One
month until V is discharged and on other views too also,
La Seraphim yunjin was recently hospitalized for back pain and
she's gonna be missing concerts. And I've seen idols, I've

(11:59):
seen perform fight through so much stuff, and we kind
of like want to find the line a little bit,
you know. I was like, Okay, we have we have
fans who come and we pay for concerts and and
we want to come and see everybody.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
However, the dates are set in stone.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
And whatever the universe wishes upon, like whatever the universe
wishes to happen, it's up to the universe's hands. And
that day, you might get a stomach ache, you might
get a stomach flu, you might you might have back ache,
you might hurt your knee, you might hurt your ankle.
And there's a lot of idols who fight through all this,

(12:37):
like Kobe Bryant's style and just show up and perform
for the fans no matter what, and and and that
is beautiful and that is to be celebrated. However, when
the idols and the artists prioritize their health and they
take certain dates off because of things that they cannot
control that within the universe, then they start getting backlash.

(13:00):
And it's a little bit sad to see because they're
human and a lot of these things you can't control.
And I promise you for these k pop idols, for
these artists, this is the favorite, this is their favorite
part of the job. We hope and wish for her
to have a speedy recovery and we hope for her
to have continuous success so that she can come and

(13:21):
visit Nagoya again. Anyway, speaking of concerts, SEC dream will
be performing in sm Town. However, they also announced the
Dream Show four, marking their first release since Dreamscape in November.
Since last year, we have been in an NCT dream
drought for I think about like seven months, that is
half of the year. And the tickets for the Dream
Show four will go on sale May eighth for the
fan club members and May ninth for the general public.

(13:44):
That's where you can see ANCT Dream If you guys
are in LA you guys can also see them at
the Smtown performances. And yeah, so that's what's happening in
the world of kpon today. That's our segment of the
K Pop News And if you guys are enjoying the
podcast once again, you guys can download the iHeartRadio app
to listen to this. We are also on Spotify, Apple Music,
wherever you guys get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (14:04):

sometimes we post stories where we ask for your fan engagements.
So we posted a story recently asking if you guys
had any questions that you guys would like answered on
the podcast, and we have Anthony here.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Who's gonna present some of the fan questions. So take
it away.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
What is your review on Gnarley?

Speaker 3 (14:28):
Oh my god, I I love Gnarley. I love Gnarley,
and I love that they released it. And they're like, yeah,
it's okay. You guys aren't gonna get it, but by
the third or fourth listen, you're gonna get it. And
I would be honest, they kind of underestimated that a

(14:50):
little bit. I was like, I first listened to it,
I was like, I don't get it. Then I listen
to it again. I was like, i'ma be honest, I
still don't get it, and I'll listened to it. For me,
it was maybe the thirtieth time Bye Bye. By time thirty,
I was like, Okay, I get it. It's not serious.
The entire song sounds like like a TikTok sound like

(15:11):
it sounds like a salt like a sound that I'm
gonna lip sync. And I'm like, okay, whatever like is Gnarley.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
And then I'm going around my day. I'm going I'm
going about my day. I'm Washington dishes, I'm like Gnarley,
I'm going, I'm taking the laundry out. I'm like Gnarley
Tucky Tucky, you know, And I'm I'm I'm journaling. I'm
like like a bag of tuckies. I'm legit, Gnarly, Boba

(15:40):
te Gnarly. I can't stop. And it's it's tattooed and
ingrained inside of my brain. And I love it so much.
A bowba T Gnarly what I love it? It's so
good and and the it's just such a unique sound.
And they're so it's so like we know they're talented,
we know what they can do. Now here's Narley. You know,

(16:03):
it's so awesome. I love Narley. I I If.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Gnarley has no fans, I am dead. Next question, please,
how do.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
You get started on following your dreams and believe in yourself?

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Oh? Interesting?

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Okay, So a lot of the a lot of my
journey was motivated by why and like why I wanted
to pursue this, Why I wanted to move away from home.
Why did I want to Like you know, even I
tell my parents that I was going to college just
so I could go to Korea to train.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
And a lot of it was because, uh, this is
my dream.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
I dreamed the performing, I dream of being on stage,
and this is everything that I wanted in life.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
I grew up in a small, small area that no
one has heard of.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
I mean it's Coney Island, you know, And it's like
it's not the best area. There's a lot of like
drugs and violence, in the neighborhoods, and I wanted to persevere,
wanted to keep pushing and hopefully show that one day,
show the world one day that no matter where you
come from, no matter what your beginnings are, as long

(17:09):
as you continue to push, you can do it and
you can accomplish your dreams. And yeah that you just
have to find your why. And then if you have
your why, you can push through and stick with it.
And good luck to you. Thank you for asking you a question.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
How do you feel about the beauty standards in K pop?

Speaker 2 (17:24):
All the beauty standards in K pop?

Speaker 3 (17:27):
I think that they're very strict, and I have my
own personal experiences with it, and I remember, without kind
of naming anybody, I remember living in a dorm and
just kind of being in my own personal space, taking
a shower, getting out of the shower and having like

(17:49):
a towel and like all this stuff and like my
hair's wet and I'm just like trying to like get
ready for the night. And then my boss would come
into the dorm and look at me in the eyes
and start naming things that is wrong with me, and
I'm like, wait what, And I'm just I have a towel.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
You know. I'm like, I'm like watching like a YouTube video.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
And they were like, come on, your head is really big.
We have to we have to fix that. And your
shoulders they're kind of narrow, dude, you can look like
a stupid bubblehead. I'm like a bubblehead. How do you
know what a bubblehead is?

Speaker 3 (18:26):
She's like it's not good, and I'm like okay, okay,
and she looks at me closer. She's like all right,
and then she takes out a pen and a paper
and she goes.

Speaker 5 (18:37):
Nose job, she goes jawsh shaving, and then.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
She goes do you work out? And I'm like no,
I dance. She's like I can tell. And I'm like okay,
and then I go to sleep.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
And then I wake up the next day, and then
we do evaluations, we do all that stuff. It's just
like like that's that's how the beauty standard is kind
of normalized. You know, like it's normal for someone to
like talk to someone like that, and at least like
in my training experience, and then like they do it
out of love and they'll like call me like handsome

(19:17):
like the next day and they'll be like.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Good jawsunt even dude, and like, what the heck? You know?

Speaker 3 (19:22):
So yeah, beauty standards in Korean they're very strict.

Speaker 4 (19:27):
Next question, what's your most embarrassing moment as a K
pop training?

Speaker 2 (19:31):
There's a lot, there's there's a lot.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Oh gosh, my my most embarrassing moment as a cabox training.
I think I think as as me as a character
I have my entire life is kind of an embarrassing moment.
But I think one thing that I remember very specifically
to trainee moments is my audition. And I auditioned and

(19:54):
like some random person's like basement where it was.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
It was like it was like a Chinese house, so.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
I couldn't wear shoes, so I had to do like
it was my audition pieces were it was three self
choreographed dances and then I had to do three covers
for one audition.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
I was like what the heck? But I was dancing
my my butt off.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
I was sweating like all this stuff, and I was
in socks and it was like a super clean, like
like wooden floor. And in my last dance after I
already kind of showed that like I was like good
at what I do.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
My last dance.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
I was trying to break dance and I slipped and
I hit myself right on the head on the floor.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
And then and then I thought it was like a
funny thing.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
I was a haha, and then I got up and
all all of a sudden, we just like and that
was That's the moment I think about every single day.
So yeah, that's my answer. My most embarrassing moment as
I camebout training, slipping and falling on my head. And
thank you for your question, thank you for all the
questions today, and thank you for listening to today's podcast.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
This is the K Factor Everything.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
K Pop vosted my Bumbhan, I voiced Bumhon and I
will see you guys next week.
