Go behind the scenes of Apartment 4D with the crew who called it home for seven incredible seasons. Each week, real-life friends Hannah Simone (Cece) and Lamorne Morris (Winston Bishop) rewatch their Emmy-nominated series, New Girl, and reveal the never-before-told behind-the-scenes escapades. Speaking of besties - they're inviting all of the loft's favorite guest stars, writers, and directors to share their adventures on set. Follow @TheMessAroundPod on Instagram, TikTok and watch every episode on YouTube.
Well, well, WELL we have ourselves a very special guest this week: none other than Jake Johnson, el capitan of 505! That's right - Jake directed this episode of New Girl, and he joins us in the middle of a torrential Los Angeles rain storm to discuss his experience at the helm. We also discuss many other things not associated with the episode at all, as you can imagine - but we wouldn't have it any other way.
Could this be the sleeper funniest episode of the season? If it were up to Hannah and Lamorne, all signs point to MAYBE cause this episode had 'em crying! Things get weird at the loft with Jess sequestered for jury duty - Nick starts to rent out the place, leading to an impeccable guest appearance from Fred Armisen, while Cece's advice for Winston leads to questionable (but effective!) choices.
Today our two venerable hosts are sleep deprived and zany, which is just how we like em. Eventually they get around to discussing "Jury Duty," aka ak aka the last episode before Zooey goes on mat leave. Jessica Damn Day does her civic duty! John Cho is there! Nick and Cece are beefin! Winston wrecks a whole wall!
Our season five reminiscing era continues with some deep appreciation for Taran Killam and Nasim Pedrad, reverence for Henry Winkler and Julie Hagerty, and a few thoughts on smoothie dates. OH! And a...fun (?) fact about gorillas?

What! Who?! How?! When did this happen! Season 5! F-I-V-E?! Yep, time is a wormhole and we're moving right along into season 5, episode 1: "Big Mama P." Find out if Lamorne really lifted that car to become the Carport Hero, why Hannah can empathize with Cece's decision, and take a moment to appreciate the greatness of TICKLEFOOT.
What up fam, it's ya girl Winston! This season finale. THIS SEASON FINALE!! 11/10. We love it so much. And there's plenty to discuss - including silly bits with a certain je ne sais quois, unforgettable quotable moments and a whole lotta heart.

Are you one of those people who cringe at the word "paaahnties?" Well, this is NOT the episode for you. JK, we only say it out loud a couple times! We DO talk about the heavy lifting of a penultimate episode in a TV season, and the lengths certain New Girl cast members go to to keep themselves entertained when they don't have much work to do in a scene. We also sleuth the answer to a great question from our Roomie of the W...
This week we've got a very special rewatch discussion: it's the episode Lamorne wrote!! We dive into how the episode came to be, backstories of plot lines and bits, and what Lamorne might do differently if he went back in time. Plus, we share some fond memories about Rob Reiner - our beloved Bob Day.

Ooooooooh we're getting festive in here! Lamorne and Hannah attempt to make a top 5 holiday tunes list, but instead relish in celebrating some of their favorite songs without the need to rank. Because who needs it! If you feel warm & fuzzy listening to Christmas music, everyone wins! Hope you enjoy this special little bonus episode. <3

We're heartbroken over the news about Rob Reiner, our beloved Bob Day. This episode was recorded prior to the devastating development. We will plan to celebrate Rob and his unforgettable contribution to the New Girl universe in an upcoming episode. For this week, we reminisce about filming with JJ Watt and Nora Dunn, Winston's shower dance, Nasim Pedrad's comic genius, and more.

We thought it might be merry & noggy & gingerbread-y to revisit our previous New Girl-mas episodes this month! So this week we take a peek back at our "Welcome to Our Show" era recap of season 2, episode 11 "Santa." North Pole playa 4 life! (different episode quote, but relevant). Next week we'll be back with a little new bonus something something for ya.

This whole episode is kind of like a walk of shame, of sorts. Everyone's looped outta their minds. Metaphorical stumbling in heels. Hair looks great. Could use more singing about woodland creatures. Fond memories of Josh Gad and Jeremy Long appear like sugarplum fairies. Wait, am I looped, too?? Aren't we all??

Hey gorgeous babes! We thought it would be fun & festive to revisit our original recaps of holiday episodes this month. So for the next two Fridays we'll bump those up to the top of the pile. Then on the third Friday?? A little something extra for ya! This recap of 109: The 23rd features the one & only Zooey Deschanel and was recorded during our 'Welcome To Our Show' era. Quite the throwback!

Attention all Jar Men and Smushers: arachnophobia is no laughing matter. Except - well - see, there's a real classic mess around in this podcast episode that makes even the arachnophobe writing this paragraph cackle. Also arachnophobia is a laughing matter when it involves Schmidt, of course. So the original statement is true, but there are loopholes. Such is life! God this is such a good episode (New Girl 417 AND the pod)...
The entire New Girl gang goes to Oregon for Jess's Dad's wedding, etc etc etc yes we DO talk about that but ALSO more importantly we learn that people who live in Portland "don't use umbrellas" ??? Hardy folks out there. Only need a good, sensible rain coat and a dream. Speaking of dreams, we also talk about Jake Apex, Jordan Catalano and Jamie Lee Curtis!
If you're wondering if Lamorne is still sick, YES. And now also Hannah. So, they're both a little bit loopy!! But as a wise man once said, The Crawl is for all. The sniffly-nosed, the brain-fogged and sneezy schnozzed; the puffy-peepered and sleepy keisters. And this is an iconic episode, so there is much to talk about!
Hannah was SO excited to recap this episode, whilst Lamorne kiiiiiiind of forgot a thing or two about it (life's gonna life, man). Also it's funny how many real-life swuits have been seen in the wild since this episode aired?!

Bros, Lamornesky is sick and he has major BEEF with crystals. Hannahldino just wants to talk about school field trips in the 90s. The audio is not... at its best. Oh, and Billy Eichner sent us a voice memo!! A lot to process. Feel better soon, Lamorne!!

Everybody STAY CALM. There's a lot to talk about. Looooots to talk about. Like how this episode features the prestigious debuts of Fawn Moscato AND Aly Nelson. We dive into a mysterious cat food bowl project. We learn the number for Outside Dave's tailor (grab a pen!) Plus, if you listen closely you'll hear a bonus cameo from Lamorne's boi Kyle. You know, Kyle!!
We're BACK! YAY! With a Christmas episode?!? Why not! In this New Girliest of plots, the whole gang heads to the airport together because everyone has flights on the same day (which is totally normal of course). Jess gets nervous about Ryan's rich English family. Winston drops classic quotes on 'em. Pervert Santa is there. And so is Billy Eichner!
