With David Grub on MLB bro podcast.
Speaker 8 (02:46):
What's up, Everybody? I'm David Grubb and welcome to another
week of classic hits on the MLB bro Show podcast
The Mixtape. It's hard enough in baseball to be a
Hall of Fame hitter from one.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Side of the plate. I think about being one of
the best from both.
Speaker 8 (03:00):
The list of the greatest switch hitters in baseball history
includes names like the all time hit King, Pete Rose,
Mickey Mannle Tim Rains, Bernie Williams, and today's classic Eddie Murray.
Eddie Murray was the man in the middle of the
order for some of the great Baltimore teams in the
nineteen eighties, including the nineteen eighty three World Series champs.
During his Hall of Fame career, Eddie was one of
the most consistent and dependable players of his era. Depending
(03:23):
on who us steady, Eddie is considered one of the
five greatest first basement of all time and one of
the top one hundred players ever. No one drove in
more runs batted in than his nine hundred and ninety
six during the decade. He was a fixture in the
top ten of the MVP voting during his prime, finishing
second twice, and he's one of only seven players just
to pass both three thousand hits and five hundred home runs,
(03:45):
joining fellow MLB bros Hank Aaron and Willie Mays, and
Murray is the only switch hitter among them. He may
have been at his best in the clutch steady Eddie
batted almost four hundred with the bases loaded and drove
in two hundred and ninety eight are in those situations.
The man averaged one hundred and forty nine games per
season over his first twenty seasons, appearing in one hundred
(04:08):
and fifty two at the age of forty for the
Indians and Orioles while still batting a solid two sixty
with twenty two home runs and seventy nine RBI. But
back to his switch hitting, Murray could not only hit
for average, but for power, and on June ninth, nineteen ninety,
Murray put himself into the record books. Now as a
member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Eddie Murray hit home
(04:28):
runs from both sides of the plate for the tenth
time in his career and the second time of that season,
and tied Mickey Mantle's career Major League record in a
five to four win over the Padres. Murray would finish
his career with eleven such games, and his record stood
until it was broken by former Rangers and Yankees first
baseman Marked to share him. He still holds the records
(04:49):
for the most RBI by a switch hitter with oney
nine hundred and seventeen, and he's fourth all time with
nineteen grand slams. All this from a man who never
hit more than thirty three homers in a season over
his entire twenty one year career.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
I'm David Grubb.
Speaker 9 (05:05):
This has been classic hits and now back to the mix,
Going Deep og Markrey.
Speaker 10 (05:21):
You know they say, if you can make it in
New York, you can make it anywhere. But what happens
if you don't make it? It's your boy, Mark Ray,
the mlbog and I'm going deep for the mixtape. If
you're Aaron Hicks and you were designated for assignmon by
the New York Yankees, you had to be thinking about, oh,
(05:43):
fourteen fifteen days ago that your career was in Caerrol
Well thanks to the Baltimore Orioles. There's a redemption song
going on in Charms City and involves Aaron Hicks coming
into the week. Aaron Hicks, Who'll trip Old Last Sunday
had five hits and twelve at bats that was good
(06:06):
for a four point fifty five, five seventy one six
point thirty six slash line. And remember, this guy is
just supposed to be an emergency replacement for All Star
Cedric Mullins, but right now, the impact that he's made
immediately in Baltimore's lineup leads you to believe that he
(06:27):
could be an extra outfielder when Cedric Mullins is healthy
for the Orioles down the Strets.
Speaker 11 (06:35):
It has been said that you can't have enough.
Speaker 10 (06:38):
Arms in the bullpen nor on your pitching staff, but
as we find it out in Baltimore, you can't have
enough bats on the bench. And leaving the Bronx has
been a blessing for Baltimore in the form of Aaron Higgs.
It's your boy, Mark Gray, the mlbog and going Deep
(07:01):
for the mixtape.
Speaker 7 (07:03):
Going Deep with Og Margret, The Black A Report, The

with precision and popping out all across.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
The big leagues.
Speaker 12 (07:33):
So let's check the report. The Guardians finally got their
ace back and he was worth The week after being
recalled from the sixty day IL, Tristan McKenzie was sensational
in its first start back. He pitched five innings, only
giving up one hit, one walk, and fanning ten batters.
He only pitched seventy nine pitches as he looks to
continue to strengthen his shoulder, with his next schedule start
(07:55):
being June tenth against the defending champion Astros.
Speaker 13 (07:58):
I mean going out there and getting away trying to
split the series was mainly the folks on my mind.
I felt like it was all this stuff that I've
been working on the Triple A, all the stuff that
I've been working like through the rehab process, So I
felt that up going out there.
Speaker 12 (08:11):
Marcus Stroman picked up his fourth winning a row on
June fourth, after he led the Cups to a seven
to one victory against the Padres. He pitched six innings,
letting up four hits, nowhere and runs and six strikeouts.
His eras now at two point thirty nine and has
been one of the early front runners for this season's
NLSI Young Award.
Speaker 14 (08:28):
And Marcus Stroman pumped. Here we go Marcus Stroman, the
Cubs leading one nothing as he faces Hosey Siri on
the ground. Stroman gets over. Want to play by Marcus
Stroman on the back head able to stare at the
Urvin saying nicely done.
Speaker 12 (08:50):
Flag Ty Walker had his best start as a Billy
on June sixth against the Tigers. He pitched seven scoreless innings,
only allowing two hits and struck out eight batters. Picked
up his fifth win of the season and now has
an ERA up five point oh four. Black Jack Clarity
had a very strong week after pitching June second against
the Pirates and June seventh against the Rangers. He went
(09:11):
to combine eleven and the third innings and only allowed
one earned run during his two game stretch. His ERA
is down to four point one.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Five low.
Speaker 12 (09:19):
It's it's been said to late April, all right.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
Jack Flarity, appreciate you do on the mbebo dot com.
Speaker 11 (09:23):
Twelve innings to n W last few stars.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
She's been solid lately. So what's been into that?
Speaker 15 (09:29):
Uh, just doing the little things right. It was you
know a point there where I wasn't doing little things right,
which for me is you know, getting the head, throwing
strike one, keeping the ball down, pitching with my fastball,
and the more times Jacks quo things are going to happen.
Speaker 12 (09:42):
And that's the black As report for this week. This
is JP therook Now back to the.
Speaker 16 (09:46):
Mix, taking a look at a couple of MLB experts
draft boards. Miles Naylor fifty ninth ranked prospect for the
upcoming MLB draft.
Speaker 11 (10:00):
He's a number one ranked player in Canada.
Speaker 16 (10:02):
That family tree already has two brothers drafted previously and
Josh Saler who went twelfth overall twenty fifteen, and middle
brother Boat who's drafted twenty ninth to twenty eighteen. He's
on many teams radar as he ran in sixty seven
two six yard dash time a one five to nine
ten yard split, which is point zero three tick fast
in the Mookie Bett who ran the six seven five
six yard dash. Miles can play shortstop, second base, third base.
(10:24):
A couple of years in double air and triple A ball,
this young six two one ninety five Steve will find
his way alongside his brothers if he.
Speaker 11 (10:31):
Continues to put in the work.
Speaker 16 (10:32):
He has major league mechanics, get grace, pop on the ball,
has great size and runs very well.
Speaker 11 (10:37):
You have the name put the ten thousand hours in.
Speaker 16 (10:40):

Speaker 4 (13:47):
Yeah, seeing the Black Baseball.
Speaker 17 (13:53):
You war wins ops LA.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
Plus Baseball is a game of stats. I'm Sebastian Ball
and I'm the numbers man ok. In the hectic National
League Central Division, all five teams have the potential to
push for a playoff spot down the line, and Marcus
Stroman has powered the Cups to where they are currently
and he will be the driving factor of a Chicago
(14:25):
playoff run. Marcus Stroman's two point three to nine ERA
as of June sixth, twenty twenty three, is the best
of his career to date, and his peripheral show exactly
why he has such great production. Stroman has forced a
ground ball rate of fifty nine point nine percent, which
is the best alley since he left Toronto back in
twenty eighteen. This, combined with his home run per fly
(14:45):
ball rate of just ten point six percent, the lowest
of his career, has meant that balls in play are
rarely set to do damage. Stroman style of pitching to
contact combines well with the Cup's great defensive team, as
they've accumulated four it's above average so far in twenty
twenty three, Stroman had a fangrass war total of two
point zero. After his twenty twenty two in Chicago, however,
(15:08):
he already is at one point six wins above replacement
early in the twenty twenty three season. Is three point
four to nine fielding independent pitching and three point six '
nine expected ERA helped set up his seventeenth best in
the league wins above replacement total.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Marcus Stroman has proven to.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
Be a vital part of this Cup's pitching staff and
overall roster, and if he can continue this production, the
CUS will be team to watch in the later months
of the season. And he's showing no signs of slowing down.
Speaker 17 (15:38):
War wins ops A plus.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
Baseball is a game of stats. I'm Sebastian Ball, and
I'm the numbers man.
Speaker 10 (15:47):
Man.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
He's the numbers man mlbbro dot COM's analytical wiz Sebastian
Ball JN.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Krit.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
He had to tell you about the bro Bombers. He
had to tell you about me drama.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Everybody does, young Krit? And this is my weekly calm
down on the biggest plays made by MLB bros over
the past seven days. This week, I'm gonna get a
number five a Bro Aaron Hicks, who's back after signing
with the Os last week. He stepped in and got
back to business, taking up five hits in his first
four games, including a triple and an RBI in a
(16:27):
win against the Giants on Sunday.
Speaker 14 (16:28):
Team with Mullins out as there's a deep fly ball
in the right field and this baby is gone and
we are tied up.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
At you up next to number four Bro bomber Jim
Carlos Santon is back in the lineup after missing some
time with an injury, and his first game back, he
busted a home run in the game on Friday against
the Dodgers. Sitting in a three spot. We've got horrid third,
basically key Brian Hayes, who had himself a nice week.
In five games, he collect the nine hits, including two
(16:56):
arm runs and a triple. He also had two three
performances in a weekend series against the Garden.
Speaker 10 (17:01):
Four RBIs yesterday a career bat trying to get his
first career hit against Montcomery.
Speaker 4 (17:05):
Fly ball to left field, hit pretty deep.
Speaker 11 (17:07):
Has he done it again?
Speaker 4 (17:09):
To the wall?
Speaker 8 (17:10):
He has keep Brian Hayes player of the back cannon
Ball coming hits tied at.
Speaker 11 (17:16):
One and every two this week.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Randy MLB broke the year. A Judge showed out on Saturday,
making a stellar catch in the outfield and then belting
a home run in the game as well. And the
sixth we went over the Dodgers.
Speaker 14 (17:30):
Crack down the line back to the corner, goes Judge.
Speaker 11 (17:33):
It is time and Judge.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Finally number one our Kris count down. Dodgers start Mookie
bits head back to back game last week where he
hit two hour runs. He also had a five RBI
game in that stretch as well, and that's it.
Speaker 11 (17:48):
Add to him next week.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
I'm on krit and this has been Chrits Countdown on
MLB Broshow Podcast mixtape.
Speaker 11 (17:54):
Now back to the mix.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Yeah, whatever I heard.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Tristan McKenzie aka Doctor Sticks was back. What he's pitching again,
hurling ten strikeouts in his last out in you know
he did, Doctor Sticks. It's going down.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Damn.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
He's back around with the get clean, Doctor Sticks.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
Hurland off that man. He'd be back damn with the
get Damn.
Speaker 18 (18:22):
This is Rachel Hill and this is my two cents
on the melanated mal Marauder. Tristan McKenzie, pitcher for the
Cleveland Guardians. You better get there early because only the
first twelve five hundred fans will be copping that number
twenty four Jersey on Saturday, June tenth at six pm.
Speaker 11 (18:38):
It's guaranteed to be.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Full at the ballpark because it's Dollar Dog Night.
Speaker 18 (18:41):
There will be fireworks, and we know that Tristan will
ball out on this Jersey night like players normally do.
Speaker 5 (18:48):
Doctor Styx is back.
Speaker 18 (18:49):
Baby as he made his season debut this past weekend
in the victory after being on the il since.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
The beginning of the season.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
So what did he do?
Speaker 18 (18:56):
Tristan had ten strip out victims that day as the
Guardians were able to split the series with the division
leading Twins with a two to one victory. That was
more than you could expect. Sat Guardians manager Terry Francona.
He was diligent and he worked hard in his rehab,
but a major league game is different. To see him
come out and use all of his pitches and for
his fastball to have some life in the zone that
(19:17):
flew way past.
Speaker 19 (19:18):
Encouraging.
Speaker 18 (19:19):
Tristan got a little cushion in the game when fellow
MLB bro Josh Naylor hit a bro bomb.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
Tristan went five innings.
Speaker 18 (19:27):
He gave a one hit, allowed zero runs, and had
seven swings at a slider, six wings and missus. Tristan
was sidelined by a strained right terrace muscle, which made
it hard for him to pitch. The Guardians are happy
to have him back as their number two pitcher because
their rotation was missing a big hole with him gone.
Because he can help this team a lot and it
could be his pitching that propels his team to the
(19:49):
next level. It is the belief that if Tristan had
been healthy, the Guardians could have been a runaway team.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
Early in the division.
Speaker 18 (19:55):
A lot of young Bucks were called up and pitched well,
but they ain't Tristan.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Welcome back, Doctor Sticks.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Listen to the MLB Broachial podcast and mixtape radio app

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Like black baseball. It's a gamblers choice.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
It's a gambler's voice.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
This week.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
The gambler here with Black Baseball Dads, where we get
never told before stories from the fathers of MLB bros.
Coming up this week is Damian Simeon, father of Texas
Rangers all star infield DeMarcus, who holds the record for
home runs in a season by a second baseman with
forty five and just had a twenty five game hitting
(23:46):
streak ended and that is good for second place all
time in Texas Rangers franchise history.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
So let's talk to the dad about Marcus's journey.
Speaker 21 (23:55):
Good morning MLB bro. In particular, memory that sticks out
in my head about Marcus Simeon as he was a kid.
I remember peeking into his room at night just to
do my parents check in on him, and he would
be sleep with his baseball glove as his pillow. And
(24:18):
I found that real, real interesting because it continued and
when I saw that, I knew this boy had a
love for the game. I believe this is carried over
to his well actually all throughout his baseball career from
T ball all the way up to the big leagues,
and he has a strong love for the game that's
(24:42):
never left him since he's been a child. And I
think that's a big part of his success, as he
has a genuine love for the sport.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Understood. Thanks Damien for that story about your son.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Marcus Simeon, who has finished in the top three in
ALMB team voting twice since twenty nineteen.
Speaker 19 (25:08):
Right here, right now, Texas Rangers second basement, Marcus Simeon
is the best leadoff hitter going. And I don't want
to talk about historically and guys are better and have
had better careers than Simeon, but I'm talking about the
way he's played so far this year.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
For the Texas Rangers and what he's brought to the table.
Speaker 19 (25:30):
I mean, the guy just had his twenty five game
hitting streak snapped on Wednesday. He had reached base in
thirty three consecutive games.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
This is what I want from a leadoff hitter.
Speaker 19 (25:44):
How about fifty RBIs out of the leadoff spot. He
has popping his bat, he's stealing bases, and he is
