Speaker 2 (00:41):
This is the almost famous podcast with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Kathy and Keith come on my favorite cup hole of friends. Right,
but you know what, there was a moment if you
guys remember in Keith you referenced this today. You reference
when we all got together in February or whatever. That
was January February, and I was teasing you guys because
you came in you were late. I'm like, I think
we got a love connection and you guys have been

(01:07):
this great friend connection and it really resonated on the show.
I mean as a fan watching the show, I should
say this as a fan of the two of you,
because I've never really been a big Bachelor in Paradise.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Watcher, so I'm huge.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yeah, I know best. I know you said it like
you love that it ends up being about love. But
this year's whole season was really different, right, I mean
there were some twists in there, kind of some survivor
ask for lover money moments. I mean there was a
lot of they through the kitchen sink at this show
this year, and for the first time ever, they had
goldens on and you guys were there. How did you

(01:39):
feel about that? Like you came into the situation. I
know that the two of you have always been good
friends and you have a great friendship, but you immediately
were providing counsel for these kids, and it's just because
you both couldn't just couldn't help yourselves, right, It was
just like you're watching a hot mess.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
I mean, let's think about this. We each have three children. Yeah,
we've raised three children each. I think we probably have
opinions on how young adults should think, behave and act
and make decisions. So yeah, it kind of came to
a second nature.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
I mean, out of all the Goldens, I think I
have the youngest kids on everybody, so, you know, with
everybody being twenty five to thirty ish whatever, I mean,
it just was in my wheelhouse. I get along. I'm
hanging out with my kids friends, you know. Yeah, so
it just it was just easy just to get along.
I know when to be quiet, no, when to listen,
no when to talk.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
And then they'd ask your opinions on some stuff. And
one of the things, you know, we we were sitting
around when we first came in today and Kathy, you
were pretty emotional getting back together with the cast, and
I thought that was very sweet, and it was, you know,
it really resonates with what you said on the show,
which was like, you know, I love these people, I
love seeing love. Yeah, but you were like, I'm just
so excited to be with them again.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, for me, it wasn't about coming back. Well, first
of all, I stayed out of the drama, so yeah,
it was easy for me to come back. But it
really was about seeing the youngins and seeing how other
lives have developed, and being so happy that so many
of the relationships have have taken off, because as Keith
and I have said, you know, for us, it's not
about money at this chapter in our life and in

(03:12):
my life, it's about connection with people. And both of
us just forge these really close relationships with these young kids,
and it was just so nice to see them again.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
We both keep in touch with different one so yeah,
and all of I had no idea what how the
show ended it all, And so when I would talk
to him, I say, don't tell me. I don't want
to listen.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
You didn't want to spoiler to spoiler or whatever.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
And I talked to Alex probably out of most everybody, Yeah,
and she started to say sounding like.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Don't stop, don't tell me, don't tell any any big
surprises for you guys today getting back together with your
old castmates. I mean, any relationships that you thought were
going to make it that you were shocked to find
out didn't or any that you feel like they told
you that they're not together anymore and your wish and.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
They were really No, No.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
I didn't realize you had such a counseling type of
relationship with Parisa.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Me.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
I was shocked by that. Now. Yeah, not that you
would have a counsel relationship with because that's that's who
you are as a nursing person, but you know that
you were basically like she openly said, yeah, yeah, I
took Kathy everything.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah, priests would come to me, and you know, she
was stressed about the relationship with Brian and what he
thought and was she doing the wrong thing? And honestly,
that's why we talked about voting them off because Paris
and particularly was really struggling with the emotion of being
on the show in a relationship. And remember I said.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Oh yeah, because I wasn't good advice. I didn't want
to vote Brian off.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Well I didn't either, and you came to me.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
And said, no, you don't understand what Priese is telling
me in the background, So what.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
They were going through, she was just really struggling with
the environment and could they make it and what would
it be like when they left and so I said,
you know, Parisa, she had told me she didn't care
about the money. I don't care about the money. I'm
not sure where Brian was on that, but Prisas said
she didn't care about the money. And I said, then
you need to leave because if this is causing you stress,

(05:11):
it's not a place for you to be.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
No, I think that's great advice. I mean, you guys
were great with that for that though. I mean, it's
kind of interesting and Keith, we can we can speak
candily about this now. So when I first found out
about the Goldens, I called Keith. I go, Keith, don't
take the bait. I don't think you should do this, remember,
And he's like, what do you mean? I go, Bud,
I just these producers.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Man, why didn't you call me?

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Well?

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Be cause I knew you'd be fine. I was more
worried about the guys, in all honesty what I was.
And I love Keith's personality and it reminds me of me,
and we got this kind of big and my fear
was that the yeah, like like, here's here's you and
tell you. But I was concerned that the guys would
go on there and they would edit the guys to
look like creepy old men. That's what I was worried about,

(05:57):
if I'm being frank, and so I was like, I
even said to Keith, I'm like, dude, if you're going
to do this, please don't take the bait, because just
just keep in mind, it's a reality show. Cameras are
runn one hundred miles an hour all the time. I'm like,
watch your back, bro because I don't know these new producers.
I know the old ones, and they sure as hell
would have done it. So my mindset was like, please, Bud,
just watch out for yourself because I love them so

(06:17):
much and I love you so much. I just didn't
want to, but I felt like the guys had more
of a risk at looking bad, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Maybe just follow your guys. The guys actually talked about it.
They go, what happens if one of these young gals
walks by in one of their bathing suits, and you know,
they're just gonna they could even edit your eyes just
like this. They can't do anything.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
I mean, I don't know. I would have been walking
around like a zombie, just looking straight. I had twenty
four to seven. Yeah, I don't even know what I
would have done, but I was concerned that I'm so
glad I was wrong.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Yes, like I was.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
I was wrong about The Golden Bachelor, the Golden Bachelor
when when they originally cast everyone, because my fear and
I told you this, Kathy, was that they were going
to do stunt casting. Yeah, remember, And I was so
glad they did age appropriate casting. And then I was
really happy with how the Guy season worked out with
Joan and all the guys at the cast. And then
so I've been wrong. Guys, I don't think it's ever happened,

(07:02):
but I've been wrong.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
We love you, though, but I do think that most
of the women thought. So I knew Keith, I knew
most of the guys that came before, from my podcast
on Golden Hour to doing iHeart events. I knew most
of them. And I love Keith. I love all the
guys that were there, with a couple of exceptions. And

(07:27):
so for me, I knew for myself there wasn't going
to be a love connection, but that didn't stop me
from the experience because I honestly thought, you know, I'm
a mom of three and I felt like we could
be of help to these young kids. And how many
times did I say to you. I said to Keith,
I don't want to leave. I feel like we have

(07:48):
purpose here to help the young ones.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
And they felt like you did too. I remember that
kind of powow session that happened second to the last episode,
and you guys just and you were ready to go,
and it was very touching. You were like, I just
want to go home. I want to see care.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
It was it was Bailey, Jess, and Jess actually voted
for me to go home also, but she really meant
somebody had called me. And they said, well, I think
she was fake in the words and go no everywhere
and and Alex, but all three of them, their words
resonated with I knew that they were being totally honest
with you. Uh, And they said, no, we want you
to stay. We you know, we just you know, they

(08:21):
enjoyed our company. They enjoyed the words that we would share.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
I mean, we really did, honestly. I think Keith and
I provided sound wisdom with humoral counsel and.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
And your fun to hang out with.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I mean, yeah, wanted me out of therese Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
He said, he's like, you're drinking them dry.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
When we left the bar night, Keith would say, wait,
I need one to go, and he would take it
to his room.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Smart. Yeah, are all these love triangles getting you twisted?
Us too? But it's because we have Wetzel's Pretzels on decks,
serving up soft, salty, and totally irresistible snacks from original
butter to sinful cinnamon. We've got your cravings covered, fresh baked,

(09:11):
hand rolled, and always hot. Go online to find your
nearest Wetzels Pretzels, or to order ahead your pretzel paradise
awaits at Wetzels dot com. So the whole point Keith
wanted to go home because you want to go camping
with his daughters, right, And then, like seventeen episodes later,
you're on the the parliament of the paradise. I'm like,

(09:34):
when the hell are you gonna let this guy go home?
Did you ever get to go camping with the kids?

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Yeah, but not until July, so I had to wait
a couple months. But I came back, and you know,
they at least let me call my daughter to say, Hey,
I'm not going to be home. Can you get you know,
call this guy called do this? She ended up not
She did her own thing. But yeah, we've gone camping
and it's it's it's all good, Na, that's awesome. It

(09:58):
just all hit me at once. One the shows are grind.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Yeah, it just while you're filming twenty four sons. Yeah,
and then you guys are in the heat of Costa Rica.
Although you did have air conditioning rooms, which was nicer
than the years in the.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Past, ninety ninety plus degrees out ninety plus percent humidity.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
I'm just gonna say one of us had to have
a hair dryer on his shirt twenty four seventh. The
other one of us was like, it's not hot on here,
what's the problem.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
You're good with heat, you know. Yeah, I'm saying how
hot it is? I'm like, not really that dry too?

Speaker 3 (10:32):
Yeah, I know my shirt one episode during my watch party,
they're like, wow, what's that? And then the roast ceremony,
they're like, how did dry? Like why the roast ceremony
was like thirty minutes they were ironing out my sweat.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
The shirt will never be the same. So one of
the big things that happened, obviously that really changed the
direction of the show was when April gave the flower
to Jonathan right, Oh yeah, and and I know I
talked to Keith about it before. Kathy and I've talked
about it too. I'd love for you to share with
our listeners, you know, basically what you thought of that moment,

(11:06):
and you know, did you say anything to Jonathan afterwards?
Like obviously it wasn't his fault, but it was like,
you know, were you kind of like what what do
you well?

Speaker 2 (11:16):
To be honest, which I was. I had talked with
April before and that was not the plan. But I
know April and there was this little glint in her
eye and I thought, oh no, she's gonna go row
because April loves a good TV moment, And so honestly,
I wasn't surprised she was going to give the rose

(11:39):
to Jack.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Right, Captain? Is that Captain Jack?

Speaker 2 (11:42):
That's you know, m Kevin Camus one and Jack's the other.
And I interview Jack.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
I liked Jack, Cannonball Jack.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Yes, So she was going to give it to Jack,
and you know, she'd had a make up moment with
Jack and then she found out that Jacket had a
date with someone that she didn't you know, it was
a miss.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Jack thought for sure he was getting around one thousand
but that.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Was an fed up rose ceremony for the Goldens. That
was the most drob I saw.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Because took out half.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
I'm throwing Gary kind of under the bus on this
one because Natasha he went off and natashauld talk to him,
and he flirted. Instead of being honest and saying, hey,
I don't have an interest, he flirted with her. So
then during the roast ceremony, she gives him the roads
and Leslie was already to give the rose to Gary,
and then all of a sudden she had to think
on her feet, like what am I doing? So she
gave rose to Captain Kim.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Then wait and then wait. Leslie said to me she
didn't like him, and she said, I don't know. I
didn't want to give the rose to him. I should
have given it to k and so I love k
I adore him and this guy. Here are my two guys,
them and so so. But you know, the wheel was

(12:57):
in motion, and she she gave it to Jonathan and
c k went home, and that said a whole.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Yea yeah, because then it screwed up. However, the producers
probably had the men and women.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Okay, I'm going to really back up and give you
the real truth. We're all sitting in the bedroom and
all the Golden Girls are sitting in my room, and
and Leslie's saying, you know, I want to give the
rose to Keith. And Natasha says, well, I want to
give sorry my mind, I only advise for you, okay.

(13:37):
So Leslie said, I'm going to give the rose. I
want to give the rose to Gary. And Natasha said, well,
I want to give the rose to Gary. And I
looked up at the camera in the bedroom. I said, well,
you just solved a problem for the producers, because Natasha,
you're going to be giving the rose first. So Leslie
figured it out. Well, they didn't believe me show enough.

(13:58):
That's exactly what I.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Would do is be aware, and you're always very aware.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
So anyway, I think what happened was Gary didn't really
pay Natasha, and he never mind the next day, and
it just said in motion this. You know, Natasha was
upset and then and fast forward then Nancy comes.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
And that sort of sets everything up.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Well, and you know, he's told Nancy he's only there
for her, and Nancy thinks she's getting the roads, and
then he gives them the less. You know, you just
cannot trust a man over sixty. What can I say.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
With Pinkberry, It is love at first Swirl big thanks

You know you said something earlier tonight. I loved you
said there's lots of types of love, and you looked
at your buddy Keith, and you're like, and I love
you and I love your guys friendship. I've always loved it.
So one of the things I wanted to ask you
about so a lot of buzz and it came up

(15:26):
earlier today about Kat possibly having a secret boyfriend and
an iPad or something like that, and there's been a
lot of a lot of drama about that, and it
came up and it seemed pretty aggressive, you know, in
the earlier conversations. Did you hear those rumors on the show,
and did you see anything.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
That I didn't hear that. I was clueless totally.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
I saw nothing. But I heard the rumor from Sean,
you know, on the show, but you know.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
So you didn't even hear it until Sean the Parliament
of Paradise showed up.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Right, Okay, here's something. We are of a certain age
and we know better. I'm speaking for a little north West.
We know better than to get you know, dig into
that and wrapped up in that, and so literally I
just literally said I'm walking away from that. Yeah, I mean,
I just want to know.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
I wish I wish, you know, it's probably how they
wanted it to happen, but they should have just taken
it off the side and talked to it off the side.
That would that would have been the mature thing to do.
But especially when you say, so good for the show.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
The part of the part of that where I really
agree with you, and I actually I brought it up
to Seawan earlier because I knew I wasn't going to
get to interview him, but I said, I go, you know,
I said, uh, it's interesting when you walk off the
show and say we're going to take ourselves out so
we can maintain our integrity. Yeah, and as you go out,
you're like scores Earth, the opposite of maintaining integrity, right,
And by the way, you better watch you across me

(16:52):
because I'm coming for you. It's like, that's not integrity,
you know. It's like, but I get it. The dude's
good TV, and so I get that part. Kathy, you
said something tonight that just when I know, no surprise,
but I only took notes because I was loving it.
You go, uh, Sean said, you know, we were the
strongest couple there, and you said, well, you know, and
he goes, well, I don't think you know what you're

(17:12):
talking about, and you go, h they're engaged, in case
you missed it, which I just laughing.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
I'm like, oh my god, I'm not trying to be funny.
There's fact in fiction.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
Ye.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
The facts are they're engaged. The facts are Sean and
Alicia are not together together. So let me do the
math on this. You gotta have an engaged couple, and
you have a couple who the woman's living in California
and he's living in Tampa, Florida. And they're not together.
I don't know, I win.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Yeah, yeah, I think. I think facts are facts. There's
nothing we can do about it, all right, So last
last couple of questions I got for you guys, So Keith,
I want to talk about this one more time because
I just love your girl, Dad. I love how much
you love your your daughters. You're there in Paradise. Everyone
starts looking at the tail end, especially I know it's

(18:04):
the last two episodes especially, it was everyone was really
looking to you guys for guidance, like they were all
kind of coming off the rails. Did you feel like
at one point were you kind of like, man, I
didn't realize having three girls would prepare me so well
for being in Bachelor in Paradise.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
I don't know if I didn't think of it that way.
It was, you know, everybody already had their ideas of
how they wanted to vote, and and I just knew
that I wanted to stay true to who I was
and what Bachler in Paradise was. So yeah, that's all
I wanted to. Alicia and Sean had sat down with this.
By the way, I'll hire Sean the guy. He turned
my words around on me. Interesting, I'll sales guy.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
Ye, well, he said that's what he wanted to do.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
So no, but it was, uh, you know, I wanted
to stay true and that's what I just tried to
project to the people there. I think the one thing
that kind of threw people off, though, is when I
said I wanted to go home. But then when they
asked me, well, who'd you vote for? And I said, well,
I voted. I didn't vote for me. I voted for Jonathan.
And then I went to Kathy, I think even that day,
and I said, I think it's going to be a tie.

(19:11):
I kind of I started counting the votes. I said,
we may have a chance here.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
And so of course the way editing works, I'm like,
you know, yes, said you wanted to go home, we're there,
People like, what the hell right? But I just want
to say one thing about Keith. I think one of
the reasons we were so successful and call, you know,
use whatever term you want. We stayed a long time
because we were true to ourselves. We genuinely like each

(19:39):
other and we respect each other. And I think when
I was struggling, Keith was there for me, and when
he was struggling, I was there for him, and I
think the young and saw that and so to me,
and I think to us being a good model, you know,
not making out the pool for the cameras. We were
true to who we are and I stand by that,

(20:02):
and I agree, and I think that I hope the
Bachelor nation sees that that, Oh they do that being
who we are.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
I mean, I stayed on my on Jones season. I
stayed until right before hometowns, and I think Joan and
I knew there was no connection, but truth.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Were the same way I was right before hometowns.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Wait, I just want to get this straight. No connection
with Joan, no connection with me? Exactly what are you
looking for?

Speaker 1 (20:28):
She's a really good point there, Keith.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
I'm still looking and I'll know when it happens. It's
going to be out there.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
I want to say this, you stayed around so long
for the exact reasons that Kathy said. But I think
one more thing that I love about the kindness counts
and you guys were kind and you listened.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
We are kind.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
You're very kind people. You're beautiful people. I love you
both so much, so glad we become such good friends.
I love watching you guys on the show, and I
just think that what you guys brought to the show
was so needed, especially with the format wobbling all over
the place. I mean, we didn't know what the hell
I was watching half the time. But the one thing
that I couldn't watch where you guys are kind of
like the moral compass of the show, which I thought
was a great role for both of you.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
I'm not even I'm not trying to brag or put
the Goldens higher, but the show was kind of slow
those first couple episodes. I was I was like, where's
this going? I just shut enough of it, And then
then I saw the Goldens come and even that first episode,
but then by the fourth fifth, I was like, Okay,
now they were starting to build the stories and figuring
it out.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
But I think that is I think that we you
and I as Goldens are being who we are. We're
genuine in front of the camera. Behind the camera, I
think the young'ins sometimes were thinking how will this play?
What'll look good? You and I were just like we
were who we were. Yeah, I think that resonated with

(21:50):
the with the audience.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Well, you two are clearly fan favorites. You always have
been since you introduced to both of us or all
of us on both your respective shows. You're my favorites.
Thank so, I'm so glad you guys. God you.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
Say that I love Candy and Moore, I understand, but
I love you.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
I love you too well. Thanks you guys, Thanks for
being thanks for being such a great part of the show,
and thanks for joining us today with almost famous thanks.
