Speaker 2 (00:48):
This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Everybody's been here with the Almost Fi podcast. We have
one of the very successful couples from pair, Jess and
Spencer with us today. You just got off the reunion show.
I was not worried about Green Show for you too,
Were you worried about it for other people?
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Definitely.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
I honestly expected a little bit more chaos than we got.
I got anxiety hives a few times, so hopefully you
can't see that when they when they release the video footage.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
I was proud of everyone for keeping it way more
tame than I thought.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
There were moments, there were moments I think it could
have really spiraled. Here's one of my favorite parts of
the season that never got talked about, and it happened
with you, Spencer, and it includes drama.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Me and drama.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, the I think whatever they're calling the judges, what
did they call the judges that came.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
The Parliament of Paradise.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
They come out and Sean and Alicia start doing their talk,
and they flashed to the current contestants and it shows
Spencer kind of in the back of the TV and
you're standing there looking like you want to shrivel up
into a ball and disappear because it's so awkward.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
I mean, as soon as we got to the point
of airing out people's personal details that weren't part of
the season. Yeah, I was cringing from the inside out.
I was like, oh God, this is so many, Like
can I just go hang out with my friends? Because
when they all showed up, I was actually.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
So we were so excited, and then it was like, well,
now we're plummeting going down, and I was like.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Can we just excess stage righte? And can we can
we go hang out somewhere else? We're not gonna show
us anyway, So it's like the.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
And I do I want to be in all sincerity,
congratulations to the two of you. I mean thank I
just got off recording with Wells and we were talking
about you two as a couple. And I think one
of the the markers for a successful season of Paradise
or Bachelor or Bachelorette should be and always has been
the couples that come out of it. And I think
this season, and if that is our marker of success,
(03:02):
has been one of the most successful seasons we've ever
had because the two of you, uh just seemed to work.
And I will say this Paradise tried to make it
look like you two.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
Weren't gonna work.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
I know it was a little bit really hard hard,
and I think I think when you walked up the stairs.
I think so many of us felt emotional because the
two we could see it that your connection was real.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Yeah, there was. Honestly, there was no question for me
on whether I was choosing love or money. I just like,
I've never felt the way that I feel about him
with anyone, and like, I just think that that's a
once in a lifetime thing for most people, and there's
no way that I could I could choose money over
what what we found.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
It was never a question then, never a question.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Jesse and I started laughing when he offered me the money. Yeah,
it wasn't a question for me.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
The behind the scene spencer, for you standing there in
that moment, I'm, you know, just being on the show previously,
I know they're really good at makings you get inside
your own head. And I don't think it's manipulative. I
think it's sometimes really fun if you look back on it.
I'm assuming you were standing there waiting for her to
go up the stairs for a while.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
I was there for a while. Yeah, I was like,
have they got the shot they need already? Because I
mean I was so confident that she was going to
be coming up those steps that if she hadn't. I
had way bigger issues than her not showing up, because
my judgment of everything and anything is so out out
of line and I need to like reassess my life
(04:39):
as a whole. So I was beyond confident that she
would show up. They kept me up there for a while, though.
Did you ever start to doubt it? No. I thought
they were like trying to get another shot. Maybe they
need a different angle, Maybe they need me to look
down at the money. Like I was like, I'll work
with you all, let me know, let me know what
you need. I'm nervous here. I'm proposing soon.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
So oh my goodness.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
I mean that moment of a proposal, knowing the situation
that was in front of you. We had seen as
viewers the morning where you had mentioned, hey, today's day,
we might get engaged or we could be become engaged,
and we had seen teasers that you were in your
own head about it. Yeah, and then that was solidified.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
As you laid in bed and went.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
Yeah, okay, so let me speak on that. I am
the worst morning person in the entire world. I don't
speak until I've been up for at least like an
hour and a half, Like he's he learned that very nonverbal.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
I'm nonverbal.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
Honestly, we we thought we started dying laughing when we
saw that part of the episode because we're like that
just that checks so much, because I'm just like, I'm
a different person from the hours of like seven am
until around like ten am.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Yeah, that's a ten am.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
I'm like my normal I'm like good.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
And so it was honestly, like obviously because we knew
the conversations we had had the night before. He got
to speak with my both my parents, I got to
call my parents. We were in a really good place.
We were confident about the decision that we were making
the next day.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
And we discussed the engagement at that point.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
Yeah, watching that clip, we were it was so funny
to us. We were like, oh my god, that's just
that's so funny that they used me half asleep, like
my non morning person self.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
But she loved it. They're like, this is perfect. Don't
give her coffee. We have no coffee this morning.
Speaker 5 (06:43):
Seriously, I was the last person going to walk out
in the main area every.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Morning, sitting there with her breakfast travels. I already got
done with a five mile runs.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Yeah, show like three.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
Times, and I'm just like finally getting up.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yeah, you'll appreciate that in ridge one day, because you
get your morning time, you get your own time, You
get to do what you gotta do. You can you
can go run, you can do yours, you can read, write,
and then all of a sudden she wakes up to
start half your day.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
And looking like this takes time. So I'm understanding, you know,
I get it. Rome wasn't built in a day.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
All these love triangles getting you twisted us too, But
it's because we have Wetzels Pretzels on decks, serving up soft,
salty and totally irresistible snacks from original butter to sinful cinnamon.
We've got your cravings covered, fresh baked, hand rolled, and
(07:45):
always hot. Go online to find your nearest Wetzels Pretzels
or to order ahead your Wetzels Paradise awaits at Wetzels
dot com. It's interesting too to me how different people's
experiences on Paradise are for the two of you. And
(08:08):
correct me if I'm wrong here. I'm just a viewer
and a fan. You walk through Paradise fairly unscathed. You
had a really beautiful love story it, you know, was
always kind of adding in depth. You were great in competitions,
You stayed out of the drama, you watch from the sidelines.
You just had this like wonderful vacation. And others also
(08:31):
went like and had a really rough experience right alongside
of you, same house, same bar, samepool, same beach, really
rough experience for somebody like the two of you who
come out of this engagement and love and can look
back with a smile on your face.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
What is it like also sitting alongside of.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
People today going we lived in the same house and
you're it was not the same for us.
Speaker 5 (08:54):
Yeah, honestly, I have to say I'm just said thinking
he's such a good human in general. I just didn't
have to worry about his intentions on anything. So I'm
very thankful. And I mean I could have had I
very well could have had one of the experience that
some of the other people had, but I had this guy,
and he's just the best. And also I will say
(09:17):
I think that this go round, I really wanted people
to see the real me. I didn't want to get
involved in all the other stuff. But I will say
it was surprising to see, like all the conversations that
are going on while we were just focused on each other,
Like we just literally kept our focus on building our relationship.
And that's at the end of the day why we
(09:37):
didn't face those hurdles as much.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Yeah, and I think at the end of the day
we both had a mutual understanding that whatever we were
deciding to do was for what we viewed as the
betterment of us as a couple. And there's never been
anything just has been upset about that. I've been sitting
there wondering, Hey, this is so outline, Like where did
that come from. She's a very rational, reasonable person, and
(10:07):
of course, you know, emotions can grab a hold sometimes,
but at the end of the day, everything that she does,
I can, while I might not agree with everything, step
back and be like look at it and say, I
understand where that's coming from. And when you come from
that place, I think you can work on it together
to get to a place of mutual understanding. And I
(10:28):
think that, like, different relationships move at different paces, and
you run into obstacles at different times within the relationship,
and that's so unique to the people that are in
the relationship. And Paradise was honestly the reason I was
fighting so hard to be able to stay and the
reason that when Sean said her name, I was like,
(10:51):
oh dude, you're done. Like I don't care how strong
your relationship is. I don't care about anything, because every
single day we had in Paradise it was like a week.
It was like a week the real Yeah, like legitimately
of when else are we going to have this time
with no phones, no jobs, no like, no work calling us,
no family burden, no anything like. Our whole job was
(11:14):
to get to know each other. And I was fighting
tooth and nail for every single day that I could
be there with her to grow our relation relationship at
this expedited rate and just get to know more about
her in this awesome, unique scenario that we found ourselves in.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Yeah. I think Wells described you as like what a
golden retriever?
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yeah, people have said that.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Yeah, like a very like golden retriever meets clerk Kent.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Yeah that's a good And I also saw Wells with
royalties for that.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Yeah, I also saw I'm just thinking about this now.
I think during the season I got a clip sent
to me of maybe is it your mom? That also
is like I can't believe this is my son, and
it's she's so proud of you, which is she's really
proud of you right now? So, how did I mean
your families? You haven't met her family yet, right.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
So I have talked to both of her parents facetimed, Okay.
Speaker 5 (12:13):
Because I have some family in California. So he's met
my aunt who I'm super close with, and my two
cousins that are like my little brothers and my gigi.
But my parents he has only met on FaceTime.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
I haven't met mamma, have met mamma or mom and dad.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
So you're getting ready to fly out from here to
go meet mamma and your mom and dad.
Speaker 5 (12:39):
But you have met his Yeah, I've met all of
his He has three brothers and I met all of them.
I met his mom and dad, I've met his grandparents.
I met his best friends, and yeah, they're.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Has been like for like you And what's the feedback
that you've gotten on Jazz?
Speaker 3 (12:58):
So so one thing about me and my brothers and
my friends, we're all kind of weird.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
So when I was going into Paradise, I was like, man,
the reason I went into it thinking that, you know,
an engagement probably won't come of this is there's qualities
that I'm looking for in my future wife. And then
when you pile on top of that, you have to
be able to tolerate a little bit of the weird
and give a little bit of it back. And our
(13:30):
first competition, our first conversation. She told me about the
biscuit making competition she won in fifth grade, and when
she started diving, that's why I was like, Oh, she's perfect.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
She's so weird, that's crazy.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
That's a that's a beautiful, beautiful story.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
So she's a winner.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
Yeah, with Pinkberry, it is love at first swirl big
thanks to Pinkberry, who has been serving up some delicious
frozen yogurt treats today where every flavor, whether it's original tart, pomegranate,
(14:14):
or their new white mocha is truly is a front
runner and the only drama is choosing between your favorite
premium toppings. Whether you're here for love or let's be real,
just the froyo. Pinkberry's got your happily ever after. Find
a location near you or order online at pinkberry dot com.
(14:41):
I mean, I think you said during the reunion that
your family has fully adopted her in and that's such
a great thing. People you had mentioned it that obviously
Paradise was fast and it is expedited.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
In a day there does feel like a week and
it is.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
But the cool part it is, I do believe you
can find love there because I think if you had
asked me a week and to meet my wife, would
you marry her?
Speaker 4 (15:05):
I'd say yeah tomorrow, Like you just know when you
know you know?
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Yeah, when you know you know? And do you feel
today more confident than ever that you know.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Absolutely one percent? It's like you said, it's that when
you know you know feeling And I don't know if
it's love at first sight. I know so much goes
into love, so it might not be that. But from
our first conversation, she just felt like home. Yeah, and
she was like so welcoming. And it's like this familiar
(15:40):
familiarity with a person that like, I don't know where
it came from. I don't know why I feel like
I know you. I don't, but I do know that
you're the only person I want to talk to and
I want to sit here for hours just getting to
know everything about you. Unprompted, we were talking about all
of our trauma and have happened in our life that's
(16:01):
like made us the people that we are today. And
that was like five hours into a conversation where we
were just sitting there talking and I don't know, she
just makes me so comfortable and I love being around her.
She's my absolute best friend. I don't care if we're
sitting in bed rotting watching Vampire Diary. Yeah yeah, or
if we're going to the nicest dinner, if we're in
(16:23):
Costa Rica on the beach, like, I don't care what
it is, but I want her there with me. And
it's like, yeah, when you know, you know, and.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
It's a really incredible thing. And for anybody out there,
any listeners, any fans that say, can the Bachelor really work?
Can Bachelor in Paradise really work? I think you two
again are an incredible example of that.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Now.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
I do wanna as we close up here, bring up
something that was not discussed really on the show, but
was written into us. Actually there's a rumor out there.
Maybe it was discussing the show and I just missed it,
but there's a rumor out there that you slid into
his DMS before this show started.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Is that true?
Speaker 3 (17:04):
I did.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
I think the first message that I sent him was
about his dog. I was like, hey, I was like, oh,
she's such a pretty girl. Will you give her a
boop for me? Like a boop on the nose, cute boop, Yeah,
cute boop. And he's like, oh, yeah, I'll do that
for her right now. And I go, oh, and tell
her that she's beautiful, and I think he said something like, oh,
she'll love that coming from you, and I was like,
(17:28):
and that was like, that was literally it. I think
like maybe he I remember I made muffins one time
and he set up and was like those look delicious.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Just stupid? Wait you remember that? Funny? Yeah? Well, and
it's I know for me. So I had only met
two people from two women from the Bachelor universe in person,
and that was at our tell all. And so of
course you like follow people, you'll dem with people, like
(17:57):
react to a story whatever. We all have this weird
mutual shared experience. But I wanted to make sure that
I went into Paradise without too many preconceived notions about anyone.
I know, Thank God, I know that in my edit
or how I was portrayed on the show, I look
super boring, and I'm like, I know for a fact,
(18:18):
like I was the loudest person there. I was yapp
and all the time like everything. And you know, I
had talked to people that work at ABIES who are
close friends now and they're like, you, honestly just have
to go there. Give everyone a fair go at it.
So I was just living my life in Dallas, and
as soon as anything the prospect of being able to
go to Paradise came up, I was like, okay, we'll
(18:40):
just like go in blank slate. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (18:43):
It's funny to see the comments though, Like I've seen
a few of people being like, oh, they definitely talked before.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
They definitely need each other.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
They have each other's numbers. I had to get our
number after we're in the hotel room. After I'm like,
so I kind of need your numbers.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
At least we knew him the government name.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
I mean, I think I think that's just a good tidbit.
But you didn't know, like when she walked in then
and you saw her there, were you like, Okay, I
kept my mind open for five minutes and now I
see her.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
So it was like her energy and what she brought
walking into a room only so much can be conveyed
over social media and stories and photos or whatever.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
It was.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
The she was like a magnet for me. She walked out,
I was like, I need to go talk to her.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
See, I already wanted to talk to him because I
thought he was cute.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
I think he's cute, and I.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Mean she's she's beautiful, and obviously that's like you need
that sort of attraction and relationship. But for me, it's
so much beyond that. Yeah, and it was just me
and her person. I was like, man, I wish I
would have known you were this cool. We could have
just like we could come on.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
Yeah, but you got some more money out of it.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
They got a lot bit moneyla.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Final question for you. You know there were conversations that
were happening about you two moving in together, who would
be moving where and when and how? And also kind
of family if you're going to be starting a family.
I think Spencer was very excited about starting a family.
I have a seven month old daughter. I will tell
you it is amazing. I would recommend it to anybody
(20:29):
on Sleep right now doing great.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
It is.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
It is nothing but a blessing. So catch us up now.
Shows done airing we know you're engaged.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
What's next?
Speaker 5 (20:40):
So we went back and forth the entire time since
filming wrapped, and we talked about San Diego, we talked
about Dallas, we talked about maybe a new city, and
I think for our future right now, Dallas just makes
the most sense. I'm really excited, you know, I haven't
been able to do much there because we have to
stay inside, but I'm really excited to see the city more.
(21:04):
And it's a lot cheaper than California.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
So so.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
We did the sign on Dallas, and I'm going to
be moving to Dallas at the first of the year
when his lease is up.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Yeah, and then with everything else, we're taking a step
we haven't been on date yet, Like, let's let's go
on a date. Let's be able to move in together,
get our footing, and then kind of take things from me.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Is that your honest opinion, Spencer? Are you still kind
of like, hey, let's get this thing.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
I mean, I would love to be able to I
think that the thing I will excel most at in
life as being a father, and I can't wait for that.
But I also know that I want her to be
that person, and I want her to be comfortable and
be on board. So just like with the move as well,
I was like, hey, let's like, let's weigh all of
our options.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
Yeah, he's been so patient with just like because I
think everyone saw me doubting quite a bit, you know.
That was kind of like the devil on my shoulder, Like, hey, girl,
you did this once before, it didn't work out. See
where that got ya. But just like trusting my gut
and knowing that I have such an amazing partner and like,
this is exciting and this is a good thing, and
just let it be what it is and stop worrying
(22:13):
about your past failures or past things that have happened.
And yeah, so we're we're with all that being said,
we are excited for the future. We don't want to
put timelines on anything. I think that we both get
really excited though, and you can see that with him.
He's very vocal about it, and I am as well too.
I don't want anyone out there to think like I'm like, whoa, buddy,
(22:36):
calm down, because I get really excited too. It's just
realistically well, it's also like she's twenty six.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Yeah, I was saying kids in the next two years,
which would make her twenty eight, and she says she
wanted kids before thirty. So the delta there, it's not insane,
it's not crazy.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
You're in the same.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
Yeah, it's the same. Like I can give her take
a couple of years, honey, exactly.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
It's not to give unsolicited advice. But here's my advice.
Let it be good. It is good, it seems good.
Just let it be good. And if it wasn't good,
somebody would tell you, and they haven't yet, and I
won't tell you.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
This has been the Almost Famous podcast.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
We have an incredible couple from Paradise that we will
all celebrate and we are celebrating. Congratulations again on the
engagement and also the one hundred and some thousand dollars
that you walk away away. That's pretty exciting. Justin Spencer,
thank you for joining us.
