Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, their folks. Sit is Wednesday, August twenty seven, and
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey let the world know they
were engaged with ten little words in an Instagram post.
They didn't say much, but if you want more details,
just ask Travis's dad because he is talking. And with that,

(00:23):
welcome to this edition of Amy and TJ Robes. Everybody
knows the news. You couldn't get away from it. But
you tell me, what was your first reaction. We've been
following these two for so long, just as we happen
to be sitting here, just randomly, just so happened, story
pops up on TV. It is everywhere, These two have
been everywhere. But when you heard they're engaged, what is
the first thing that came to your mind?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Finally, I've been waiting for it. Yeah, I'm excited. They
genuinely seem like they're in love, and they seem like
they're a perfect match. I'm just I'm happy for her.
I love her music, and I love I love seeing
them together. The photos that they released are adorable and
sweet and yay, are we here already?

Speaker 1 (01:08):
I'm sorry, I say, we happen to have the TV
on and the story happened to come up. I realized
this was the story about a Dan prenut where they're.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Already because every single news outlet is looking for every
single angle to take. I have seen from how much
they believe her engagement ring cost, to know what she
was wearing. What we've seen bets being made already in
Vegas about what their first dance will be, to which

(01:37):
song it will be. You know, everyone's capitalizing and look,
this is Look. When we're in the news business, we're
mostly talking about horrific, awful, controversial, devastating things. It is
so wonderful to be able to actually report and find
different angles on a story that is actually something to celebrate,
something happy, something that yeah makes us smile, it brings

(02:01):
us joy. It's so rare.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
What was your How soon did your thought go to
I wonder what the ring looks like?

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Immediately? I'm sorry, but I think most girls are like,
what's the ring like? So I actually really appreciated that
Taylor anticipated that and put a close up of the
ring in the initial announcement, which I think was really
cool because everybody wants to see that. I also think
it's pretty cool that who Travis chose to design the
ring with now is getting so much love. Even the

(02:33):
Ralph Lauren striped sun dress that she was wearing while
he proposed is now sold out. It's cool to see
lots of folks actually capitalizing or all boats rise in
a story like this. So anything they do, anything they say,
anything she's wearing, that's anyone who's a part of this.
Imagine being the wedding planner. Imagine being the dress designer.

(02:56):
All of these folks are going to have. If they
aren't already household names, they will become them.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
And I'm looking up, I'm looking at the pictures here. Now,
this has been a cool story to follow. There were
moments people would try to get annoyed or throw shade
because she was at the game and they were showing
her too much, they thought. In many of the broadcasts,
I didn't mind it, didn't care. Didn't miss a single
play of the game now while I was watching. But
even that I didn't think it got too terrible. But

(03:26):
they've been a pretty good above board. Nothing necessarily, I
guess to taint them necessary little politics came in there
and that was a thing, But for the most part
they have stayed a couple you can root for look.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
And I know she is no stranger to fame, but
also just the good and bad that can come with it.
So she is very well aware about putting a relationship
like this out in the public domain, because you are
going to be talked about, good, bad, and then people
love to build you up. They love to celebrate you,
then they love to tear you down, then they love

(04:04):
to see see your life is just as bad as mine, whatever.
So putting yourself out there and putting your relationship out
there is tricky and can be dangerous. But it seems
like they've been really good at staying above all of
the noise and so far, so good, and I hope
they can stay that way because it is tough. Already

(04:24):
relationships are tough, but to have the scrutiny, the public
scrutiny that they've had and that they will continue to have,
is an added layer of difficulty in a relationship.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
I think they have good not just good people around them,
but they have good experience and good personalities for what
they are doing. Yes, obviously they're very public people, very
famous people, but I mean Travis is very engaged in
social media. He's very engaged with his audience. He's a
fun dude. He has a podcast, I mean, so he's

(04:56):
kind of out there. He knows how to handle media.
She I mean, is whiz. To your point of how
much of a whiz she is, I never would have
thought about that. Make sure you include a picture of
the ring because she knows her frikin audience. Yeah, that's
just brilliant. So they get it, And we learned a
lot from his dad, But we learned a lot from

(05:16):
Travis recently how they have gone about their relationship. Things
we think were going on that we were seeing had
already taken place. So we're thinking their meeting or having
a date somewhere out publicly. No, they had already passed
the tests before we saw. But learning now how careful
they were, how smart they were, and even how smart

(05:36):
this was the dad we now know. We're just finding
out about the engagement. It happened sometime again, you know what.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
I think that's cool. They had their private moment to celebrate,
They had their private moment with their families to celebrate
because we learned from Ed Kelsey that this happened about
two weeks ago at a garden in Missouri. I love it.
I mean he has to be there for training and
getting ready for the season obviously, But I thought it
was pretty cool that it was in a garden and
that they facetimed Travis's family and Taylor's family right after

(06:09):
it happened, and they got to have a couple weeks
just to keep it to themselves. And in the meantime,
also she's been on this incredible it's all been well
timed with her album release coming out with this podcast.
It's all we've been talking about for the past few
weeks is Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey and now to
button all of that with an engagement. I can only

(06:31):
imagine what the wedding is going to be like and
all eyes on when that's going to be, where that's
going to be, what she's going to be wearing, who's
going to be invited. But doesn't everybody love a wedding.
I love a wedding.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
What is the closest we've had to a royal wedding?

Speaker 2 (06:49):
This might be it. I mean I'm trying to think, Wow,
I don't know what else would have risen to that.
I mean, obviously we've been talking about Jeff Bezos and
Lauren but that doesn't I mean, yes, that was fun
just from the star studied guest list and where it
was in Venice. But I'm trying to think of another
wedding that's created this much buzz from Americans.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
JFK Junior, Right, that was a long time ago.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yes to Carolyn Bessett. Yes, and yes, wow, that a big,
big thing.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
It was, but.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
We're that's decades ago.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
I'm trying to think celebrities don't rea in history, but
celebrities don't know sometimes rise to the level of royalty.
She is a level other level. She is celeb that
and now coupled they are he is a prince charming
type guy. Yes, we know she is in charge, we
know what's going on here, and she has a different

(07:44):
level of stardom, but they they just it works to
where it does feel like it's bigger than And isn't
this what everybody drinks? Everybody coming up? What does the
guy want to be? He wants to be the stud
football player who goes on to win the Super Bowl,
and she wants to be all I want to write
music songs that go around the world. But it's disgustingly perfect. No,

(08:05):
I'm not a negative.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
That's so true.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Perfect.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
They embody pretty much dream careers that every little boy
and every little girl wake up thinking, one day I
want to be this. It would be what they already
are and are incredibly successful. I mean, he won this
super Bowl. She was Time Magazine's Person of the Year,
was she not? I mean, this is a match made

(08:28):
in heaven. They're both thirty five. The story about how
they met, that he went to the concert was mesmerized
by her had created some friendship bracelet with his phone
number on it. I mean it really, it's it reads
like a movie script, like a rom com. There was
their meet cute, and then they were able to keep
it private and quiet until they made the decision for
her to come to one of the games. I mean,

(08:49):
all of this, we've watched it all unfold. And then,
of course her music is all about love and relationships
and her difficulty in finding the right one. So yeah,
it's a love story. Just say yes?

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Is that a yes?

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Yes, that's her. Yeah, it's a love story. It's one
of her first first songs that ever made it to
the top of the charts, and it's a great one.
And yes, it's all about getting engaged.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
So the local was the local station, I believe, right
caught up with mister Kelsey, that's Ed Kelsey, and he
started I mean, he didn't reveal everything, but some of
his quotes were interesting. At least robes and you tell
me what they said. He was kind of joking at
the end of this one, So you tell me what
this meant. Yeah, quote Travis actually did the proposal maybe
two weeks ago, not quite two weeks ago. He was

(09:35):
going to put it off till this week. I think
she was getting maybe a little antsy.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
I mean, I don't know how much she appreciates that
they might have a really fun relationship where he thought
it was cute to say it. But no, I think
he's saying she really wanted to get engaged. I mean,
I do think that that is oftentimes a case where
you know you've got she She probably dropped a lot
of hints about wanting to get married.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
And Taylor's swift. What hint do you drop.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Just kind of maybe pointing out rings you like or
do you.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Think they're strolling through the mall.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
No, they went to a very private, exclusive designer and
yes it's a one of a kind ring, and you
had to have done that. You think he got a guidance,
I think most for him to spend the amount of
money that I'm sure he spent, I'm fairly certain she
had to have dropped hints about what kind of rings

(10:32):
she likes or And he knows enough about her obviously
her style, and he can see how she dresses, and
she is kind of a vintage girl. She's she's she's
got kind of a classic but like it's not flashy,
it's not bright and shiny. She's she's got her own take.
I think he must know her well enough. And yes,
I'm sure she dropped hints. I have no doubt she

(10:54):
dropped hints.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
Let me ask you this, does she know it was
does she know it was coming well on this day?

Speaker 2 (11:02):
Look, most girls will tell you that they get a
feeling the guy starts acting a little nervous, They start
just being weird, and I have a feeling like like
is something going to happen? Like hey, According to Ed Kelsey,
again this is our source right now, But they were
going out to dinner, and right before they went out
to dinner, he asked if she wanted to have a

(11:24):
glass of wine out at this garden and so, yeah,
I'm thinking maybe she could think, is this the place?
I mean, every time you go to some dramatic location
or some beautiful cliff side or some gorgeous setting, it
might be in the back of a girl's mind if
she thinks it's about time to get engaged, maybe this
is the place. Maybe. So who knows she might have
been thinking.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
It was about a six month stretch I avoided those
places with you. Well, I'm glad we're past that. Yeah, So, Teny,
can you tell me what an old mine brilliant cut
diamond is?

Speaker 2 (11:56):
So I have to tell you, I've never heard of
that before in my life. But I'm not some diamonds.
I don't know a lot about diamonds. I haven't done
a deep dive. But it's it's a vintage inspired diamond,
I believe. And the brilliant cut I kind of know
what that is, but this is it's it's a one
of a kind. It's I think they what do they

(12:18):
say that? The name of the so this is pretty cool.
The name of the diamond or the diamond is from
a place called Artifacts, and the designer's name is Kindred Lubeck.
So if you go online, which I did and search
up both of those, and they've got Instagram accounts and
they've got a website. It's crazy. Almost every single piece
of jewelry, actually, the one I'm looking at right now

(12:39):
is completely sold out, sold out, sold out, sold out.
So that that's the power of Taylor Swift, the power
of their engagement. This jewelry designer is now meteorically risen
to a place where she probably couldn't have even imagined
before today.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
Yeah, as we mentioned the power of Taylor Swift were well,
there are plenty of other folks besides that jeweler who
are realizing and trying to harness and then benefit financially
from the power of Taylor Swift.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Before we go to break, I have to tell you
about new leggings I've been living in lately. They're from
this brand called Toona, and fun fact here, they were
actually designed by the same visionary behind Lululemon, so from
that alone, you already know they're going to be pretty good.
These leggings feel like a second skin. They're super flattering,
super comfortable, and somehow still supportive. I've been wearing them

(13:34):
on my morning runs and they've quickly become my everyday
lounging leggings too, and here's what makes them even better.
Every pair you buy helps fund a mental health counseling
session for a teen in need. Tona's on a mission
to end teen suicide and self harm, which we think
is so important and incredible. So we've partnered with Tona
to give you twenty percent off your order and free shipping.

(13:57):
Head to tonaactive dot com and use code for twenty
percent off and free shipping. Welcome back everyone to this
edition of Amy and TJ, and we are talking Taylor
and Travis and the power of this engagement. This isn't

(14:20):
just about them, No, this is about everybody else who
wants to capitalize on the happy couple's happy news about them.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Is there any chance they would keep this from the public,
meaning they would want to do something small, quiet, intimate family,
don't want anybody around, don't want any spectacle, or will
they think they owe something Taylor in particular, you know what, fans, I.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Think that you could do both. You could have that private,
smaller wedding and then release a few photos and let
people in on some of the details after the fact.
I could see that happening. I mean Look, these are
two people who are used to forming and being in
front of large crowds, selling out stadiums in an arenas,

(15:07):
either on the football field or they're on the stage.
But they're not shy about any of that. They actually
obviously have to love that sort of environment. But when
it comes to your wedding, I don't know. I could
see them doing something private and releasing photos. I appreciate
the fact that they let us in on the engagement
the way they did and showed the pictures that they did.
I thought that was pretty cool. They got to keep

(15:27):
it to themselves, they got to enjoy it privately and
then share it with the fans.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
What you just said, I think you just nailed it.
The plan for the wedding I would endorse if it
was the same as the plan for the engagement, right,
which is do they even have to announce when the
wedding's going to be?

Speaker 2 (15:45):
And they probably won't.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Let us know. If you tell me a week later,
we got marriage. She posts those pictures, we can all
and we want. That's pretty good. Do you remember the
Spectacle of Venice? It was terrible and it went on
for so long. Again, that's their thing. They want to
do their wedding, Jeff Bezos and his wife, But it
became such a.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
Thing I can't look. I was when we were all
covering that, or at least talking about it, I kept thinking, like,
what a stain on the wedding. I mean, maybe it wasn't,
but it just when you because people are always going
to have opinions and they're not always going to be positive.
And so when you when you invite people into your
life like that, you have to also understand that you're
inviting a lot of criticism. You know, either you know

(16:26):
the carbon footprint was too much, or the right people
weren't invited, or why would they do that, Like, you
start to invite criticism. So a lot of times I
think it is better to do after the fact. There's
nothing to say. Once it's already done. You've got the pictures,
you can enjoy it, but you don't have to have
a running commentary on it. I would think they would
want to avoid that.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
They nailed, and I mean nailed this engagement. I keep
looking at what Tom and Giselle and now Taylor and
Travis they are teaching us lessons robes that we didn't
listen to about how to get divorced.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Yes, and how to get married to Mary. That's funny,
that's funny. I like that. But in terms of the brands,
I have to say, these social media teams are on it,
and it was actually kind of fun and it was
cute and it was in good spirits. But I mean,
even so, when she what the line was your English
teacher and your gym teacher are getting married. One of
the first brands to jump on was Duelingo, which I

(17:24):
thought was pretty funny. But when will it be your
Spanish teacher's turn? So I thought that was funny. But
they also, you know, you've got a lot of in
completely unrelated brands like Little Caesar's Pizza or Buffalo Wild
Wings or Krispy Kreme Donuts, Chili's, Door Dash, Olive Garden, Wingstop,

(17:45):
Antie Ann's, even the Empire State Building, like everyone jumped
in to offer free this discount on that to celebrate
the impending nuptials. I think that's pretty funny. I actually
liked with the Cleveland Browns put out on X the
NFL team. They wrote, thanks a lot, Taylor Swift. Now
no one knows that next year's schedule is out, that

(18:06):
was funny.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
And you know what, more people know about the schedule
now because they know what they're doing.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
It's true.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
I don't give a damn about the Cleveland schedule, and
now I'm curious about what's happening.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Yes, and even this was funny. Congresswoman from Ohio Marcy
Captor used the opportunity to talk about Trump's Big Beautiful Bill,
saying my heartfelt congratulations to Ohio native Travis Kelcey on
his engagement to Pennsylvania native Taylor Swift. Now that I
have your attention, we must do everything we can to

(18:37):
protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid before it's too late.
People in both our states and nation wide depend on it.
That was a little political, uh, but it was still
in good spirits. Oh mind that I don't either.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Look, I think this is a wonderful story that they
have allowed us to view, to witness, and it happened
right there in front of us. I think it's a great, great,
great story. Obviously rooting for them, but yeah, I mean,
I guess I do. I look forward to it to
more and more. Well, during that I felt like we
got so many updates I didn't even need to go

(19:11):
look at TMZ or something to figure out what was
going on with him, because they were in my face
so much, certainly during the football season, and that's okay,
but I haven't really kept up. But I love I
love the story. You know, I'm always rooting for love.
I'm room for these two.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
You know. I liked something I really liked that Travis's
dad said, and I think this is pretty cool. You know,
I think a lot of I was a lot of
kids these days always try to make these big proposals
or you know, from prom proposals or promposals to engagement proposals.
I love what Ed Kelsey told his son. He said,

(19:47):
I told him repeatedly, you could do it on the
side of the road, do it any place that makes
it a special place, like he's saying, it would be
a special event. No matter where you do it, do
it on the side of the It doesn't matter where
you do it. It's how you do it, and it's
the fact that you're doing it. You don't have to
go into all of these big grand gestures. She said.
He said that his son Travis was trying to find

(20:10):
some big grand thing. You've got, Taylor Swift, You're asking
her to marry you. You've got unlimited resources cash wise,
so what are you going to do? And it's kind
of cool. He just dropped on one knee in a
garden and asked her to marry him. It's pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
What do you give a woman who has it all? Right?
You give her something she can't have, which is a
simple garden in Lee's summit, Missouri and her football guy
down on one inee. You can't get that anywhere else.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
It's really cool.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
He can buy her any damn thing he wants. She's
seen it all.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Yeah, and I think with the simplicity of it made
it even more special. It made it you know what,
It's not that you, But people are distrustful. I think
of relationships in a lot of ways, and we've talked
about this with what we post on Instagram, and it's
the perfect version of our lives. And when you pull
back the layers or you look behind closed doors, it's
never what it seems. So people are distrustful of I

(21:05):
think public and certainly celebrity relationships. I have to say
there seems very authentic and very cool, and I'm really
rooting for them.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
Can you think it any celebrity relationship. That's not authentic.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
Oh, I think a lot of folks could just start
rattling off couples, which we will not do here.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
But we will, folks, It'll be in part two. It's
posting later tonight. No, but now I'm rolling for these two.
Is a fun story. It's a cool story. It's something
we could smile about. So go team.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Congratulations Taylor and Travis, And with that, thank you for
listening to us. Everybody. I'm Amy Roboch alongside my guy,
my partner, t J Holmes. Hope y'all have a wonderful Wednesday.
