Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is the most dramatic podcast ever and I heart
radio podcast. Welcome to the most dramatic podcast ever. I'm
Chris Harrison joining me from the home office here in Austin, Texas,
el Z. We are celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs as
Super Bowl Champions of the World, the big championship, the
(00:25):
biggest thing in sports. Everybody the big headline obviously the
Super Bowl, but really the big headline was the halftime show.
Oh my gosh. Well, you know, the only reason I'll
get involved in sports is two do the non sporty
thing about the supporting event, whether it's wine or snacks
or in the case of the Super Bowl, the halftime show.
(00:47):
And we got to talk about it. I mean, we
get to the dramatic headlines and Rihanna or big reveal.
I don't know if everybody knows this not our pregnancy.
Her real name pronunciation is Rihanna, so I'm gonna say
it correctly. Rihanna for real reveals she is pregnant with
baby number two during the halftime show. We were watching it,
(01:10):
and I will say, we're watching it live. We're loving
the performance. You said spectacular. I thought it was incredible,
but we're watching along with hundreds and hundreds of millions
of people, and I promise you every Super Bowl party
around the world was having the same debate, is she pregnant?
We're all watching going okay, wait, well, because it's sort
of this. I mean, for a second I was. I
(01:31):
didn't want to say anything because you don't want to judge,
you don't want to speculate about that. The worst debate
any of us can have, The worst thing you can
say publicly is that person pregnant. Every man in the
world knows and should know, and you can attest to this.
I did not speak up at our party when everybody,
all of the women, all of them with children, were saying,
(01:51):
oh my gosh, she's pregnant. You know you even said,
I'm not saying anything. You believe the moms, these are
friends who have kids, were like, no, that looks like
a baby bump. That doesn't look like a postpartum body,
because she did just have a baby last year. They
were saying, that looks like a baby bump. And I
will say, the outfit was really built like the belt
kind was under the bump. And then towards the end,
(02:12):
when she started rubbing the bump. Even then I'm like, okay,
but I need the confirmation from her. But we were
all wondering, and I'm looking on Twitter, and I was
feeling a bit better that everyone was saying, wait, is
she pregnant? The only time I gave in during the debate,
and now obviously it has been confirmed she is pregnant
with baby number two. Yes, her rep has confirmed it.
(02:33):
When she was singing Diamonds and they hoisted her basically
to the top of that arena, she said the line
from the song the lyric at first sight, I felt
the energy of sun rays. I saw the life inside
your eyes when she sang those lyrics. She rubbed her belly.
It was beautiful and that was and that's when I knew.
(02:53):
But that's the only time I felt safe when she
was she sang that she kind of rubbed her belly,
and I thought that was a really beautiful moment and
by the way, scary as hell, pregnant or not. That
shot when they hoisted her to the top, the stage,
the choreography, the the art direction, the way they covered
it spectacular. The camera work. You and I both being
(03:13):
in TV, we were watching it going these cameras, the
quality was amazing when they were walking with her and
her face was right up close and she was kind
of giving a subtle smile as she walked the field.
The way that they shot the choreography, the dancers, those
moving stages. At one point the camera flipped upside down.
I thought, the way they filmed this show and those stages,
the moving stages were unforgettable. That was so different and cool.
(03:36):
And having been a sportscaster and covered many Super Bowls
and been there and have seen these halftime shows take
place live and on television. The whole show was made
for TV. But when you stop a football game and
you have nothing set up, and you have about ten
minutes between the commercials and they kill a little time
with the on field commentary to set up a production
(03:58):
the size of at with all the dancers, all the stage,
the lifts in and up from the top of the stadium,
two be able to produce because the whole thing is
set up to shoot a football game, not a concert.
And they made it look spectacular. And you go back
to what last year's in l A. It was like
(04:19):
the concept didn't quite work, it didn't come off as well.
And sometimes it doesn't sound as good. I just thought
everything came together with this performance. I agree. And I
was sitting there thinking, because you always think this with
the super Bowl halftime show, who's she going to bring out?
Like we saw that jay Z was there, and you
know they have such a history of working together. I mean,
I'm pretty sure he discovered Rihanna. I could be wrong,
(04:40):
but so I thought, maybe jay is gonna come out. Um.
But then the fact that the surprise guest was her
new little one. I mean, she's the only person to
ever do that. She just did the super Bowl halftime
show pregnant. I thought that was so freaking cool. But
it is interesting how like you and I are watching,
going we love this, Oh my god, she sounds amazing,
(05:02):
the dancing, the production value, and yet still I had
people deeming me or people online going and I didn't
love it. It's just interesting to me how polarizing these
dramatic headlines can be here. It really, it really was interesting,
and guys, it is I always will give the nod
to the performer. It is an impossible place to perform.
(05:22):
You're jumping into a football game. This is not set
up for you, and for her to pull it off
and do that well, pregnant or not. But again, she
was pregnant. So if you even remotely thought she was
a badass, now there is no question what a badass
she is. That was incredible. The first pregnant performer ever
at the halftime of the super Bowl. That was ridiculous. Yeah,
(05:45):
and even if she hadn't, I mean, she's singing live.
The choreography was so cool. Like we said, the staging
was so cool. I think that doing the super Bowl
halftime show is similar to hosting an awards show like
the Oscars or whatever. No matter what, you're gonna have
your critics. You're going into knowing some people are gonna
hate on this. It's like you just said, it's kind
of one of those impossible things to do. You're never
(06:06):
going to get in a hunt. Party goes, oh, there's
a there's a track of course as a track. By
the way, again, this is not set up for her
to do a concert. It's a super Bowl and so
yes there's a track behind her because the audio usually
sucks in those arenas and in that environment. So they
always covered their back like that. But she obviously they
(06:26):
were live vocals going on along with the track. So
it was an incredible perform I'm going to defend her
to the end. I did. I did. And the only issue, honestly,
was because we started debating the pregnancy thing, as did
the rest of the world. I kind of missed the
first minute and a half of that performance because we
(06:47):
were all shouting, Oh my gosh, is she brightny? Is
she not? Is she Yeah? I know I And as
I think back, I can't even remember all the songs
she did. But also she has such a catalog of
hit songs. I do love when a performer comes out
and you kind of you're like, oh, I forgot about
that song and that song. I mean, she's had such
an incredible career. This is going to go as down
as one of my favorite and certainly one of my
(07:08):
favorite shows of recent years. One bang or after another,
she crushed it. She crushed it. So I will fight
for you, Brianna. I will fight for you. And that performance,
and and I love that she gave a little shout
out to uh she stopped and checked her makeup. I'm like, yes,
and get that fenty beauty moment. I like not to
mention that someone else I saw that online was like,
what a boss. She got her fanty line. Well, by
(07:31):
the way, because you don't get paid for the super Bowl,
you get I mean, of course you're getting. I think
they cover production costs, right, and you're getting this incredible
stage where your music is you know, doesn't that suppose
she doesn't, but still your your Spotify, your music gets
this huge boost and it's an honor. But I thought, yeah,
you're not getting paid for this. Get get a little
(07:51):
ad for your ma. I'm gonna get into some uncharted
waters because I'm not the entertainment reporter here asap Rocky. Yes,
So he was there. He was there. He was cheering
her on. I saw video of him sharing her on
so sweetly. He was like he he just looked like
the proud partner cheering her on and obsessing over her
the way we all were. So it was very cute.
So we agree a plus home run. Incredible, incredible And
(08:15):
by the way, I got to give a little shout
out because this was too funny. Several people sent me
she had that big red poofy coda and several people
sent it to me because of when you and I
were trying to put our duvet cover on on Instagram.
People were like, it looks like someone trying to wrestle
their duve out of the Dubai cover. So I also
love the fun memes that come out of the Super Bowl.
(08:36):
There were other big headlines at the super Bowl. That
was not the only great performance. Um Chris Stapleton saying
the national anthem. I thought did a great job. You know,
he has such a great voice. It just drips of
whiskey and honey. And she's so effortless he is, and
so he's saying the national anthem. The over under I
(08:56):
think was like two minutes two seconds, I did. I
never got the official time time, so but I think
it went over. It felt like it went over. But
what was a real standout during that performance was how
many people were brought to tears, including the head coach
of the Philadelphia Eagles, Nick Sirianni, who was bawling. I mean,
really boo hoo ng. I know I'm usually not. I mean,
(09:16):
like I said, I'll be honest, I'm half watching half
pouring wine until the halftime show. And after the halftime show,
we're at our friend's house, and I turned to Chris
and said, can we go home now? Um, but I
was I had my eyes glued to the TV because
of the emotion Like that is one thing as non
sports as I might be. The emotion of the Super Bowl.
(09:39):
The fact that all of these people I do of
course have incredible respect that they've worked so hard. I mean,
that's when I was looking at that coach crying. Granted
you had to tell me that that's the coach. I
didn't know who it was. But when I'm looking at
that man, I'm thinking he is crying because of this moment,
because of the culmination that this is the overwhelming joy
an emotion at that moment that a lifetime of working, grinding,
(10:08):
missing birthdays and weddings. I'm sure all the things led
to that moment, and that was incredible. And one of
the Kansas City Chiefs players was crying as well. So
just this moment is so huge to get on that
stage and to see And by the way, what I
was thinking is as a player, you're looking over and
you're like, hey, coach, like pull it together. Man liked
(10:30):
it well, And I love that we have. Gosh, I'm
really giving sports some credit today, but I also love
that things like the super Bowl. I actually love the
Olympics when it's Olympics time, because we do have so
few things now as a society that bring people together
to experience something together. You know, you binge watch your
shows and like, is your friend on the same episode
(10:51):
as you were? Even you and I were really into
a poker face on Peacock right now, But I watched
ahead of you. I watched. I watched for three episodes
without um. But like you know, at night like the
super Bowl, everybody watches together and feels that emotion together
and it's really connective tissue and we all really need that. Well,
the whole show started off the Super Bowl with maybe
(11:13):
one of the more emotional moments to mar Hamlin, who
was the player that went down several weeks ago and
had to be revived on the field. I mean, it
just shook the country. Um, the fact that this guy
is alive. He's a walking miracle and for all for
he and all the first responders, the trainers, everybody who
saved this guy's life. For him to be there at
the Super Bowl. That's how things kicked off tonight. So
(11:34):
it was emotional night all the way through. Chris Stapleton
the national anthem, and then we got to maybe the
most anticipated thing outside of halftime the commercials, of course,
which I said I hate. One thing I hate about
the Super Bowl, like I said, connective tissue, like we
all experienced something together, is that they release a lot
of the commercials online beforehand. Now so I purposely avoid
(11:57):
watching any of them. It used to be like, what
are the commer? She was going to be? So I
I didn't watch any of them until tonight. Okay, as
did I. So we watched them together, and you and
I were making notes separate from each other, tell me
tell me your your hit list? Well, okay, so sorry,
I was going to say, first of all, I was
overall kind of disappointed. Yeah, there wasn't like a I
(12:18):
don't know if there's that one that we'll be talking
about for days or weeks. Are definitely not years to come.
Like remember that Rihanna super There wasn't a I mean
remember back in the day though was up and ads
I think was bud Light, and there wasn't. There was
a lot of star power. I was watching ads going
to wow, how many people did they how much money
did they throw at this ad? Of all these people?
(12:39):
But there weren't a lot of ads where I laughed
out loud or I felt, you know, yeah, like we'll
we'll all be this is going to create a cultural moment.
There's there's nothing I want to go google right now,
right but we did have a few wels, so my hits. Okay,
I'll tell you right off the bat. Ben Affleck in
the Duncan commercial, that's where this star power made sense.
(13:01):
I actually felt fulfilled. I felt like as if some
tension had released because we have spent years looking at
photos of Ben Affleck getting snapped by the paparazzi picking
up his dunkin Donuts, which he usually and you can't
blame him. It's probably not easy for the guy to
walk into a Duncan, but he usually gets the dunkin
Donuts like postmated to his house and he's got like
(13:22):
four big iced coffees or whatever his order is. And
to see him in the Duncan commercial, I love the
way they did at him in the drive through with people.
And then we know pictures have come out of him
filming this, so we knew he was doing it, but
it was a little reveal at the end that Jennifer
Lopez popped in and I loved it. It It was so funny. Well,
and it kind of is a throwback to a week
ago with the Grammys, well, when j Lo and Ben
(13:45):
Affleck made news for not really having a great moment
on camera. I felt again another sense of fulfillment. I
liked that we had a little fun with Ben and
Jen after a week ago at the Grammys where Ben
became a meme for his sad Ben face. Looking are
both the Grammys and you know what, let's talk about
that because we didn't discuss it last week, and you
and I did. We got into that from that relationship
(14:07):
aspect a little bit because I think we were watching
them going, like my reaction was bent. I think whoever
you are, wherever you are, if you're at an event
with your partner, even if you're in a bad mood,
you gotta put a good face up, especially your front
and center. I mean they were front and center, sitting
with the rock and right Trevor No, the host, was
(14:28):
stating next to him at one point. But and that
was when the camera's kind of got caught showing j
Lo maybe um scolding him a little bit, but like, okay,
this is it's a very possible, real situation. Actually, you
and I have had this moment before. I remember one
time we got in an argument before we were going
into somebody's book signing party, and I'm like, I actually
(14:50):
stayed in the car for a minute after, and then
I'm like, Okay, I gotta put on a good face
and go in there because you can't. All it does
is make other people question your really and ship thinks
something might even be bigger wrong than it is. You
got to just put on a good face, and I think,
deal with it later. We're gonna be fine in an hour,
but now you're gonna be dealing with this because that
look and that if it spills over and so you look.
(15:13):
I also give Ben a little bit of a break here.
Those things are a grind. It wasn't his award show.
I know he was there supporting j Lo, which is cool.
But I gotta tell you guys, if, yes, if you're
ever in l A and it's like, do you want
to go to a taping of this or whatever? Well,
first of all, yes, the Grammys are alive, but it's
so many hours. But if you're ever going to do
a taping, at least do a live taping of something
(15:34):
because tapings are so much longer than you think they're
going to be. And they're so arduous. I mean when
I used to cover bachelor tapings, like the tapings of
the Tewells, and they're like nine ten hours. Yeah they
they yeah, they take all day, all day. I felt
so bad for the audience because after our twelve you're
just everybody spent. I would bring snacks. I would bring
(15:55):
advil because all the screaming would give me a headache.
I would literally pass out. Advult to the other reporters,
especially the new bees who didn't know how headache it
was going to get. Some of us were in a
freezing cold warehouse. We'd bring blankets like it was. It
was a commitment. So Duncan, by the way, that was
the first in game commercial, so that was a huge spot.
There was a couple of commercials, the movie commercials that
(16:15):
were after the coin flip and all that, but the
first in game commercial was that j lobinf Fleck commercial.
That's a big spot. That was huge money that Duncan
spent to get that. Well, I thought it was worth it,
Yeah I did too. That was it was memorable. It
was good. It hit the mark. Any were there any
other commercials that really stood out to you. I did
like them. I think I have to say I don't
know how well a commercial works because I don't really
(16:37):
know what it is. But Uber one with Diddy and
UM it was like a revolving door of him bringing
in old viral songs to maybe make a new a
new song, and I think they ended up with UM
had away. Maybe what is love spoofing? Matt? I thought
Diddy was really funny. His comedic timing is always good.
It was a pretty good actor, a little bit of
(16:58):
that and what in the uh what and get him
to the Greek he was He's pretty good. Like you know,
I don't know how much range he has, but like
he hits. I thought it was funny. And then I
don't know if it was a highlight, but the You
two commercial really yes, I mean, first of all, I
am a huge YouTube fan, the biggest. But do they
(17:22):
know we were watching it going because first you're seeing
the balloons and it looked like a big balloon and
Chris turned to me and you you joked like, oh well,
aliens are coming here. It is All week we've been
dealing about shooting down either Chinese spy balloons or these
UFOs across the country. Now I think we've shot down
(17:42):
four of them. And then YouTube comes out with a
balloon slash UFO type apparatus in the ad for their
residency in was this whole thing kind of like remember
when the Red album came out when they it automatically
just dropped on everybody's iTunes. Yeah, rather infamously. People weren't
(18:03):
happy about that. Is this the same thing this? Did
you two accidentally do this again? Where they're releasing promotional
balloons and they're like, oh crap, We're just we're getting
to the super Bowl ad? This is we feel So
Joe Biden's been shooting down our advertisement balloons. How does
Bonno know? Um? Yeah, that commercial was just that was
interesting timing and it was a little weird and I
(18:26):
didn't totally get it. But I will try to get
you you two residency tickets. I will be going to Vegas.
I will be going to the You two residency. But
if anybody would know, it would be all right, Well,
what were your hits today? Did we have the same
And I would just say there were a couple more.
It was cool to see some of the movies coming
(18:46):
out because I I we love movies, and it's good
to see there are real movies coming out. I'm so
glad you said that. I wanted to add I was
just so happy to see big trailers for big movies.
The new Indiana Jones movie, Um, the new Fast and
Furious movie. To see those the bit affleck Matt Damon,
Nike air, Jordan's Yes, that movie looks so good. Take
(19:08):
all my money. Now it's I will go. I'm gonna
go see that ten times. I promise you that looks spectacular.
I just want movies to be back in theaters. You
and I say all the time. I mean, this is
a pre pandemic. But you know, in our own relationship,
we used to love going to the movies together. And
this is going to the movies on the weekend, and
it was there was some big movie stars. By the way,
I got to go back to the Nike one because
(19:30):
what we should have mentioned two is j Lo did
kind of kill it when that Nike movie trailer dropped.
She posted on her Instagram making some kind of joke
because Ben also makes a face in the commercial, and
she made a joke about that. So then pardon me
was wondering, is Jennifer Lopez so pr brilliant that she
that they made the moment for the trailer. It wouldn't
shock me at all. I mean I would commence. Yes.
(19:54):
Will Ferrell's commercial was good. You can never go wrong
with the talking babies at the trade, and they were
the fake kind of roast of Mr Peanut. Who is it?
But again, none of them, like you said, the Pepsi commercials,
I'm not sure they hit the mark. That one with
Ben Stiller. They well, the whole thing is is this
person acting about whether our products good? I love seeing
(20:16):
zoo Lander almost it wasn't quite brought back enough. And
then Steve Martin's genius. I'll watch him read the phone book.
But but in the end of You're Wondering, they're they're
asking you was this person acting or not about whether
they like I don't know about the product. I mean,
I don't know who drinks pepsi, But yeah, it was
just none of none of them are going to be
memorable home runs that we're going to talk about for
(20:37):
you know, there's no Apple commercial from back in the day.
There's none of the big ones that I think are
going to move the needle, and it's so hard these days,
it is so hard to do that. You're so right,
Who does drink pepsi? I'm trying. I'm trying to rack
my brain if I know anyone who drinks pepsi. We're
not going to be getting pepsi out of this podcast.
What we are going to do, though, is take a
quick break. So congratulations to the Kansas City Ves World Champions,
(21:01):
super Bowl Champs as they will celebrate and um in
congratulations to Rihanna and more importantly, congratulations to Rihanna for
not only performance but expecting baby number two. What we're
gonna do, We're gonna take quick break because when we
come back, we're gonna open the phone lines. That's right,
the hot line is open and we're going to talk
to you. We're gonna do that right after this. Welcome
(21:33):
back to the most dramatic podcast ever. Chris Harrison, Lauren
Zema with you here in Austin, Texas, and we are
all about taking your calls today, your comments, your questions.
The phone lines are open and our first call coming
in from Wisconsin. Heather, how are you doing tonight? Hi?
How are you doing great? We're in Wisconsin. UM, outside
(21:58):
of Milwaukee suburbs of Milwaukee. Got a great town. By
the way, Milwaukee, did you ever take the show there?
It's underrated. We did go because it was it. Nick
file right, he's Milwaukee guy and uh and I also
back in the day, I was in c double a
tournament spot for the University of Oklahomwarming basketball and we
(22:21):
were in Milwaukee. Anyway, Heather, we digress. This is about you.
What's your question? That's okay? UM, My question was I
was wondering if you had any thoughts or comments or
suggestions based on your years on the franchise of The Bachelor,
if there's any changes that could be done, either small
(22:43):
or big, that could potentially result in more relationships lasting
or even if it's not forever, that they last for
a more significant a more significant relationship. Um, you know,
the last few seasons, you know, the last I think
at least three bachelorettes and a couple of bachelor's, um,
(23:07):
you know, haven't had very good success rates, whereas if
you look at Bachelor in Paradise, you do have a
lot more relationships that come out as that. Obviously it's
a different format, but thinking about the traditional show, if
you had any thoughts like, perhaps not you know, obviously
it makes great television to have really over the top dates,
(23:29):
but it's also not like real life, so perhaps dates
that are a little bit more normal, or spending time
with each other's friends more when you get to the end,
UM just kind of was wondering your thoughts because it
just kind of feels like, you know, not a lot
of relationships have actually lasted too long. I mean not
everyone falls in love in a hot air balloon or
(23:51):
naked on a beach. And uh, you know that's funny.
I heard that all throughout my years of hosting the
show of people like come, this isn't unrealistic, And I said,
you know what's not fun is seeing our normal lives,
Like you're right, l Z and I were not jetting
off every day. That's not our everyday date. We go
to movies, we go to dinners. Um. But obviously that
(24:13):
doesn't make for great soap opera TV. And this is entertainment.
It's escapism. It's as much about taking you away from
that life as it is trying to represent it. But
that was always an issue for us, Heather all along,
and it was from day one. We probably didn't do
a great job of facilitating those relationships, and then we
(24:34):
realized how we could better facilitate and we did a
decent job along the way. Um, but the show. One
of the things I loved about it. It It was never
predicated on the fact that it worked. It is wonderful
when you get lightning in a bottle and you see
Tristan Ryan or Seauan and Catherine and you have those moments.
But the great thing about the show is it's so
(24:55):
relatable because I don't know if you're married or dating
or what have you, but um, it's relatable in that
we all go through breakups. We all make those mistakes
on night one, even if you're into heati or you know,
it's on a grander scale, what's happening there is real,
and that's what I thought was always so relatable. I also,
you know who always gives good advice about this is
(25:17):
Shan Low, the the one bachelor who is with the person. Yeah,
but I mean, how the you're so right right, because
you've got to meet people's friends, you have to integrate
yourselves into their real lives. And every time I interviewed
Sean and Catherine, you know the sometimes this would come up,
and Sean would always say and Catherine would always say,
(25:40):
we started living in normal life after the show. Like
I think Sean did Dancing with the Stars and they
talked about how that was kind of hard, but they
said they made sure to be together, that they were
together as much as they could be, because you know,
also right after the show they're pressed things and and
you know, then as you're watching the show, all this
other stuff's coming out. I think a lot of from
what I remember when I interviewed people, a lot of
(26:01):
the couples would say they struggled with rewatching the show.
I think it's so important after the show for them
to spend time together and to try to live a
normal life together. And that's really a telltale marker. And
that's a good point because you know, Tristan Ryan went
back to vail Um, you know, I know Molly and
Jason there was the big switch, but they actually came
from the show as well, but they went off to
(26:22):
Seattle to live their life. Jaden Tanner, I know that's paradise,
but again they went to live their life in southern California.
And so Elz brings up a good point. Those that
can not remove yourself. I don't think that's ever a
fair thing to say, oh, we're done with the show. Um,
although god, I feel bad they keep just pulling poor
Shawn Low out of the closet and making him be
(26:44):
on every season. It's like, you're all we got, man,
You're the only thing that you have left on this show.
Please come back. Um. So, but there are other couples,
and I agree with l Z. In life and in television,
it's important to go back to normal as much as
you can and try not to live this y know
(27:06):
each other that well when you come off the show,
you still have a lot to learn. I mean, Arian
Lauren too, even though their season was a little obviously
crazy at the end and yeah, yeah exactly. But it's
just interesting because I think it is what makes the
show so fun to watch are especially now that the
(27:28):
show is back to traveling. Um makes it wonderful to watch.
But then you also get like, you know, invested in
these relationships a little bit and rooting for them, and
then it's you know, kind of sad when you know
when it doesn't work out. But it's also fun as
a viewer of course to watch it not be like
you said not, it's not as exciting if it's just
(27:50):
totally normal life. However, you look at shows like Love
Is Blind and Like and it's very popular, but that's
very boring if you think about it. They're just sitting
in these times talking to each other and there's not
these fantasy days. However, it's a Heather tearing the Heather.
(28:11):
I think you're ready to produce TV exactly. There's network
executives going, oh my gosh, this is killing us. Um,
you're right, it's it's Look, all the different formats are interesting.
I find it compelling. I try to watch, um, a
little bit of each of them, just to see what
everybody's doing. There's you know, there's obviously the Bachelor Bachelrette version.
Then there's so many twists and concepts out there. Um.
(28:35):
But Heather, I appreciate you, uh listening to the most
dramatic podcast ever. I hope you've enjoyed that. I hope
you find this genuine and very normal. Absolutely now, it's
been great. Thanks and Lauren to you. Take care. Heather
from Wisconsin. We're gonna head just a little north of Wisconsin,
(28:56):
and I want to give a quick shout out because
of all all the fans. When we went to Canada,
it was absolutely massive up there. And we're going to Toronto.
Tommy is joining us on the line. Hey Tommy, how's
it going? Chris Harris and how are you, buddy? I'm
good man. I was just giving a shout out to
(29:16):
all the Canadians. And I'm telling from the East coast
and West coast, from Toronto all the way over to Whistler, Vancouver.
You guys were Calgary in between. Were so great to us.
We're just such huge support. You know what it's it's
it's the feeling is mutual. Um. You know, I found
that I didn't watch it on the original network. I
always watched it through ABC, so I never really knew
(29:38):
how Canada watched it, but I watched it through the
American lens instead. Um. And I know that every every
single person they like, they like to edit up there
in Canada guidelines and stuff. Um. But you know I
I dude, and and Lauren Hello, nice to meet you
as well too. Um. I met you and Alberto when
you co hosted with Kelly. But oh my god, so
(30:01):
many many many many many years ago. Yes in banf
at Banff, Yes, at the at the hotel, they're at
the conference center, very nice and it was it was
one of those experienced Chris is where I have to
point out that this is what made me really mad
about the media, about the spin about the tabloids, is
what happened to you. I found, Um, even though you
(30:24):
are a professional, you also are human being and I
felt that when I met you, I thought, Oh, don't
meet the people you like. It's one of those scary
things you do in life where you meet the people
on TV and they could be absolute, um terrible people.
And when I met you, you were touch a nice guy.
You you were you were actually talkative. You gave me
a minute of your time, and it was just you
guys were taping a lot, and you guys were doing
(30:45):
a lot, and you just were very genuine, very nice
and very humble. And I was wondering during the experience
of what you went through, what you went through as
Chris Harrison and Lauren yourself as well too. I know
you struggled through it as well, Um, how did you
get through that? Mental health wise? Everybody is talking about
mental health right now. It's really important that we talked
about it and keep that discussion going, because I think
(31:07):
the more people that talk about, including high profiles people
like you UM talk about what they felt and how
and their feelings and if they had anxiety, or if
they had this or that or obviously you're doing this
right now, which I'm so proud of you for doing
because I find that you're talking your truth, UM, and
I think that's amazing. You shouldn't be shut off, you
shouldn't be canceled, you shouldn't be anything. You're You're more
(31:28):
than just anything. You're You're Chris Harrison, You're don Chris Harrison.
I felt for you a lot to those moments because
I thought you were very genuine and when g m
A and all them slammed you, I just I just wondered,
how did you get through all that? How was how
was that? Did you did you use yoga? Did you
um use meditation? Obviously you had your family's support, UM,
(31:50):
but can you can you expand on that a little bit? Yeah? Well,
first of all, thanks for for the kind words, Tommy.
I truly appreciate it, and I vividly remember that was
the first time I ever got to host Live with Kelly.
At the time, they were looking for the new host
and so I had flown out too. I think it
was somewhere in vamp and when we shot that, it
was awesome. It was a great experience. And I'm glad
you mentioned mental health. It's something that's very important to
(32:13):
Lauren and I. We are huge backers of the Grant
Haliburton Foundation, which is a teen suicide prevention UM big
charity and organization in Dallas. We support and hosted the
AIM Gala up in Monterey Peninsula, which is also suicide
prevention mental health, but it's also kind of coming at
it from a little bit of a different medical perspective,
(32:34):
but those were were huge and believe in mental health
and talking about it, not shying away from it. Suicide
is such a huge issue in our country and Canada
as well. Sorry, I don't mean to uh negate Canada
there because that's where this call is coming from. But um,
that's huge for us, and so I appreciate the question. Yeah,
but we I felt like as far as my mental health,
(32:59):
and there were there were good days and bad days,
and we definitely had our low points. UM, but just
having that background and that foundation of my friends, my family,
knowing where my worth is, my faith not to talk
a lot about religion, but it's important to me. And
that's what I knew was always going to be there.
(33:20):
And knowing l Z was real, knowing my kids were real,
my friends who aren't in the business were real, and
they didn't they're not They're not fair weather fans that
came and went with the success of the show. And
so those people I always knew were going to be there.
And when you have that, you still have your bad
days and you question everything and you cry and you
(33:40):
have those low points, but you have people to support
you and to fall back on. And what are you
saying that? Chris Harrison cries as well. To Chris Harrison,
I'm you see all you see all the contestants get emotional,
but you'd ever see you, dude, I'm a ball bag. Um.
It's funny. I could probably count on one hand how
(34:00):
many times I cried before the day my daughter was born.
Something about when my daughter was born, I lost it.
And I mean commercials uh, watching a movie anything, you know,
Father of the Bride, forget about it. It just ruined you.
And and my daughter started singing. She was a performer
(34:21):
in theater. Anytime she's on stage, I'm crying it's over. Yeah. No,
I've turned into a big ball bag in my old age, Tommy. Yeah,
what about you, Lauren? Well, yeah, such a good question.
And it's funny. I was just reading the other day
this um this study, and it was the longest study
ever done on people's happiness, on what makes us happy.
It's something they've studied people for something like seventy to
(34:44):
eighty years, and the most important factor to happiness was relationships,
was having solid friends and family in people's lives. And
I thought, gosh, that's so true, right, because you know,
you can have all the money in the world, but
if you don't have people you love to share your
life with what you have, so um and I think
(35:07):
this Chris just said, it was those relationships. I mean,
I think it was important bablic for me watching you
even if your friendship would just say, hey, let's let's
just go like do a bike ride right now, you
know it's kind of get away and you guys could
escape a little bit and talk. And you mentioned talking, Tommy.
I mean, I think that's something that has been a
little hard for us because in with what we went through,
(35:31):
people are telling you shut up, go away. We don't
want to hear from you, we want you to not
exist and so yeah, yeah, and we talked about like
I know who I am. Yeah, so they you know,
there are some people who become very loud about wanting
you to be very silent UM. And I do think
(35:53):
talking about what you're doing, is talking about what you're
struggling with is so important UM. But I also think
Chris talked a lot about like time we really it's
that combination of taking time to reflect and then talking
about what you need help with UM, which I mean,
I'm doing. This podcast really has helped me a lot now.
But I don't think I would have been ready to
(36:14):
talk about it so much a year ago. And I
would just add one more group that was always there
and Tommy that you you and so many more fans
who reached out to me, d M S, Twitter or
whatever it was and supported Lauren and I NonStop and
sent the people did. I think a lot of people were.
(36:35):
They did, and it was scared to they even and
I'm glad that people did. And the other thing I
wanted to ask you really quickly is that you're really
close to people who are still part of UM. The
Bachelor franchise, and of course wells Um and I see
you guys at your golf tournaments become of the fun
Instagram stuff he does. And also on the show here
(36:56):
on the podcast, did you have any advice for Sarah
when she was gonna google violence? Did you asked for peacock?
Did you did you give her? I know it's a
totally different show. I know it's not The Bachelor. I
know it's not. Did you ever say to her like, hey,
like you know, like this is how you do the
dramatic pause, or I'm the king of that, like I
can I can give you a few hints? Or do
you think that she she? She? She because she she
(37:18):
did a great job. She she handled it well. And
um you know she's kind of in the franchise a
little bit too, because of the fact that you know
she she Wells is in the franchise and in paradise.
So I was just wondering if you ever because you're
still friends with the people who stayed with you through everything,
which you have to say, that's so it's a very
important part of your mental health is having your friends,
and um, so is being friends with Sarah and wells
(37:41):
Um and and being part of their life, did you
ever give them advice like, for example, what you experienced
and what some good things like what she's doing with
with love, violence and over our peacock. Great question. Actually no,
we we never talked about it, and I didn't know before.
I didn't know before. I would be interested to ask her,
And someday, now that you brought this up, I'll have
to ask her if being a fan of the show,
(38:02):
because her and Wells watched the episodes, they watched The
Bachelor and Bacherette all the time, I wonder if that
helped her at all, if she she got any But
the thing about Sarah is a she's a world class actor,
but also she's a phenomenal stage actor and comes from
that background. So live that ad lib, that charisma, that charm.
It's not surprising to me that she took to it
(38:24):
so quickly and was so good at it, because she
is an amazing actress. I was always thinking when I
was watching it, I was just like, I wonder if
Chris has you know, told told some stuff from that
and gave some points that's really interesting. Well, I gotta say, you, guys,
I'm really impressed with how everything's going and I'm right
now traveling. I'm in Seattle as we stand. But you know,
as somebody from Toronto and Canada, you know, there's so
(38:45):
much Bachelor love. There's so much love, and I wish
you nothing but the best. I hope that we see
you on our TV screen sometime soon or in some
sort of media. But this is the best way and
the way that you get to tell your truth and
you don't have anybody censoring you, and the way that
you show your love with Lauren, I think is just
it's fantastic. We need we need this, We need we
need people talking positive. We need people talking about how
(39:05):
we get through our stuff, and people like you who
have gone through who I don't think did that. UM,
but you you are, you are, You are a great guy,
and you you were my childhood basically because we have
a Bachelor on UM every single every single week. My
mom would watch it more than anything. And I know
people that just praise you, so thank you so much.
Thanks Tommy. I appreciate it, and uh, good luck with everything.
(39:28):
God bless him. I loved everyone up in Canada. Thanks Tommy.
What a doll Tommy. Oh my gosh, his voice made
me happy and I love this. I love truly taking calls,
having the hotline open um. I appreciate everybody reaching out,
and it is true. Canada was always so huge their support.
(39:49):
It was just amazing every time we went up there.
And I remember when they started The Canadian Bachelor, they
did their own version, they used ours as well, and
then they started their own version and they flew me
up to Toronto to promote it. And this is years ago,
and I just it was wild how many people were
into the show up there. I truly appreciated it. Let's
(40:20):
go to Kristen in Baltimore, Maryland. Who elz she has
a wedding question. I don't know if it's about ours
or hers. Kristen, Hi, Laren, Hi, Chris, how are you guys?
We are having the best time. You have a wedding question?
Is it about hours or yours? It is I'm going
to give you guys a little more fun, easy going
hypothetical questions. I wanted to know first before I get
(40:42):
to the question. I want to kind of go off
of it. Tommy said, let's just submit. Chris Harrison is
the vote of hosting of all time. I mean, you've
just you've made, You've said the standards for everyone, and
I've really enjoyed watching your career or I don't know,
ten plus years that i've watched The Bachelor, UM, and
I've really enjoyed hearing from Lauren and getting to know
you a little bit more through this podcast. And I
(41:04):
really appreciate seeing and hearing a different facet of you, Chris. UM.
I know you you don't want to harp on the religion,
but I enjoy hearing that that viewpoint from you. I
enjoy having this freedom of a platform where you can
express those views, um, which I also hold. So it's
really nice to hear that. Thank you, Christian thought light
like that. Yeah, So onto the question. I was just wondering,
(41:26):
if you hypothetically were to have anybody from Bachelor Nation
officiates your wedding, who would it be. If it's someone
special to you and Lauren, that you're close with, someone
julive enough the event, who would that be? Kristen? What
a great question I'm gonna saw for a minute. Well
Chris thinks about that, I can see his mind spinning.
I know who you know what? I know who My
(41:47):
answer is, So let's say it to get do you
have yours? Well, I was going to say we should
say it together a little bit of I'm gonna have
a little bit of a cheat, like I think I
would cheat a little bit. You're gonna cheat, and I
would probably multiple performers. Oh my gosh, he's producing our wedding, Kristen.
He's gonna have multiple officiants. He's producing it. Okay, give
(42:08):
me your first choice. We'll say it together on three
and see what's the same one to three. Andrew Firestone
for sure. Yeah, he's our dear friend. Um, yes, yeah,
that dates everybody. Um, Andrew was gosh, maybe five, maybe
our fifth batch or somewhere around there. Um, he was
(42:31):
a dear friend. He's a very very good friend of
ours now he was a good friend of mine for
many years. And then obviously el Z's got to meet
her and his beautiful wife, Ivanna and the kids. Another
one though, that's right there. Um would be Bob Guinney,
because Bob is hilarious and also a very good friend.
But he's a showman. And if there is a guy,
(42:52):
they're they're very similar. If you have Bob Guiney and
Andrew Firestone in a bar, in a restaurant wherever. Everybody.
They just to have this gravitational pull. It's like they
are the pie piper. Everybody will just go to them.
It is this amazing thing that I've always envied so much.
And they both have so much energy. I think Bob
Andrew was number three. I looked it up. I think
(43:13):
Bob was too. See you are going old school. But
Bob was right after Trista because he Bob was on
Trista season um and he but it was funny because
he had a broken leg. He had played football at
Michigan State or something like that, had broken his leg,
and so everyone kind of thought he and again, Bob's
gonna kill me. But he was a little bit chubby
at the time because he was in a cast. And
(43:34):
then he came back for The Bachelor and he was
like all fit. Everybody was like, who's this guy? Whoa Bob?
He was ready for the shirtless scenes? What about Bob?
I also think Ben Higgins would be a great just
because he is He's such a faithful person. He's very
faith driven. He would take it very serious and he
would do a very good job. I agree, But and
(43:54):
Ben has kind of a what's the word, like a
calmness to him. He has that gravitas, which would be
nice for appreciating a wedding. Now bachelorette's Oh yes, good call, baby,
can't leave the bachelorettes out, you know, I can't forget that.
Oh no, I love my love my ladies. I love
all my bachelorettes. Um. I was like trying. I mean,
obviously you know the goat Trista Um, but I would
(44:18):
rather her just sit front and center, you know, just
like in a in her chair and like a you know,
like a queen's chair. That's how I always see Chris Trista. Um,
let's see Jojo. I think, yeah, she would be really fun.
If I wanted it really irreverent, I could go back
to Jillian Harris. Um. That's a great question. I love this.
(44:43):
I love what a phenomenal question, Kristin. Who would you
pick for us? Thank? Yeah? Who would you like to
see that? Yeah? Ben would be great or Sean. I
think Sean would also kind of give that reverence irreverence.
You are you smiling? Because Sean was just going to
have fifty dad jokes. Oh no, Sean would be great too,
(45:06):
I was thinking, and he's so funny. I was thinking,
that's nice because you were at Seawan and Catherine's wedding
and then we could have Sean do ours. And Ben
holds a special place in our heart too, because Ben
was my introduction to the Bachelor franchise. He was the
first season that I ever covered the show. So Ben's
like my O g so gosh, we might be calling
Ben Higgins fishy. Kristin, thank you, you just planned our wedding.
(45:31):
Oh you're welcome. I also want to say, Lauren, I
really appreciate your non sporty side because I also feel
that way with my husband constantly watching sports. We're having
the one the Pinnacle this weekend with the Eagles, Go Birds,
but after that, hopefully a little less on this side.
Oh my gosh, Chris, and I gotta tell you, for
a minute, I stopped to think. I was like the Pinnacle,
(45:51):
you're talking about super Bowls this weekend? Got it? Thank you,
Thank you, Kristen Kristin, thank you so much. Thanks for well,
thanks for calling, thank you for your kind words, and
most importantly, thanks for listening to the most dramatic podcast
ever it is. You mentioned that it's about having this forum,
and that has been wonderful to have this platform to
(46:13):
talk to you and to talk to everybody, so truly
appreciate it. Thanks so Muchee from Baltimore. Let's go West
Coast No, cal Stockton, California. Gracie is on the line. Hey, Gracie,
Hi Chris. Oh my god, she's so bubbly. I love
(46:33):
everybody's like, just vibe. Oh my god, you guys just
devay story last night. Oh my god, made my entire
freaking week. Love that glad. Luckily Chris is there to
save me with household tasks. Gracie, When I tell you this,
this is not performative. This was happening. So what what
(46:55):
Gracie is alluding to is, uh, Lauren did this whole
string of stories about trying to put the dove on
our bed back in the duve a cover. It was
the night of the State of the Union. So I'm
in there watching the State of Union and all that
stuff going on. I didn't know where Lauren was. I
had no idea. Gracie and I walk in and I
found her, like you saw in the video, just lying there,
(47:17):
deflated and defeated on the ground. I had no idea
what was going on. Back in our room. Well that
you had to do everything last night. You had to.
He had to fill me in on the state of
the Union, and he had to finish the task. But
thank you, grazie. It's so good to hear from you.
So what's on your mind. Well, I just wanted to
(47:37):
say thank you guys for putting yourself out there, UM
and Chris I have supported you and Lawrence in day one,
and thank you guys for doing the show and um
speaking your truth and letting people speak their truth. Thank
you from all of us. UM, it just really wanted
(47:57):
to hear it, you know well and likewise by away,
thank you. UM, just thank you because we felt your support,
we felt your love, and you have been amazing, as
has everybody who has reached out to us. So just
know that it has been equally impressive and important for
Lauren and I to feel that love coming from you guys. Well,
(48:17):
thank you that what you guys fill us with, the
last the tears, the joy, It's amazing. There's tons of
choices of podcast out there, but if people have not
tuned into yours, they need to. It just is a
breath of truth and um chiness of the world. NEETs.
So thank you guys, both of you. We can promise
(48:39):
one thing. You're going to get the truth, the good,
the bad, the ugly, the duvets, all of it. Do
you a question for us? How can we what can
we do for you? No? I just wanted to say,
that's it. Oh my god, I love it. Gracie just
called in to spread some love, Greasy. Thank you. That's it.
(48:59):
Thank you for calling. And I hope you'll and I
hope you'll keep listening. Absolutely all right, take take care
of Gracie. I love that. Wow, what a sweetheart, Gracie
with the grace, just being kind. I just called to say,
I love you. Dad joke, dad joke, dad song quote,
dad song quote. At least I didn't misquote it. Brittany.
(49:23):
We're going to go from west coast back to the
east coast in Greenville, South Carolina. Brittany has a question
that involves the podcast. All right, what's on your mind? Brittany?
Hi there? How are you guys who doing the n
I am we are having the best time. This has
been amazing. Oh my gosh, this is so exciting. I
can't tell you how exciting it is to have just
(49:45):
even just your voice back on radio. I guess if
if I close my eyes, it feels like I'm watching Bachelor.
It feels like I'm watching Bachelor again. It's nice to
have a familiar, familiar voice again. But I had a
question UM as far as Bachelor Nation UM cast members.
I did not know, UM, if you had if you
could divulge, if you had anyone lined up so far
(50:06):
from Bachelor Nation that you were UM plan on having
on the show, Any contestants you were excited to catch
up with, or any contestants you were curious to have
back to maybe have a difficult conversation or close the air,
clear the air rather UM, or maybe Jesse Palmer on this,
you know, have that conversation with the two of you.
(50:27):
I wasn't sure if there was a relationship there, what
that conversation would look like. You know, there's I think
what we would do is the way this is kind
of manifested itself, UM Brittany is when something topical, something
relatable comes up, like Caitlin Bristow did that interview and
all of a sudden the headlines hit and it really
(50:50):
made sense to have her on the show. UH subsequently
been in Welles when we were at the golf tournament
and Chris Lane had his locker right next to Ben,
I said, guys, we have to do a podcast. This
is amazing. So it made sense. Um, I will divulge
that Ari and Lauren are definitely going to be coming
on soon because they have something exciting that we're going
(51:13):
to talk about that LZ and I took part in that. Uh,
I'll just leave it there. And I can also tell
you breaking news. Hannah Brown and I are going to
be talking very very soon about something that she took
part in and something that we're promoting. But also just
catching up with Hannah that I haven't talked to her.
(51:34):
We've texted back and forth a little bit, but haven't
talked to her in a little while. And so it
is nice to get some of the old friends and
cast members on and and we can talk because there
is so much to talk about because we had these
inside stories and inside relationships, and those relationships have grown
and continued far beyond the show, and so I love
(51:54):
reaching back and continuing that. So those are a couple
more and then I think, look as time goes on,
if it makes sense, if it's something topical and newsworthy
and I think you guys would find it interesting. Then yeah,
we'll do it right. That's so exciting. I think it's
going to be so um. I hate to use the
word eclectic. I don't know quite the right word to use,
but I feel almost like comforting to in a sense
(52:17):
for everyone, not only having you back and having your voice,
you know, on a podcast, um, but also being able
to hear you interact with Bachelor Nation again, the cast members,
because I know that's something that you know people are
missing and just kind of a comfort to so many
of us. So I really look forward to hearing who
you have on the show and kind of having a
little little throwback time of Chris Harrison. I love that.
(52:37):
So that's maybe that's a new show throwback time with
c h Thank you, Brittany, I appreciate it. Thanks for
calling in you too. Um. Yeah, you know when it
makes sense, uh, I think you know, we'll always bring
people on when it's um interesting, when when we got
something to talk about, when it's dramatic, when it's dramatic,
and Caitlin definitely made it dramatic for us, and so
(53:00):
did Chris Lane and Ben Higgins. I by the way
I saw that Chris Lane had had kind of done
he did his own interview or he said, Look, I
would have loved to have played with Ben. I like that.
They they it's mutual admiration society. They really got along
um behind the scenes. When we were at the bar
that night, that very first night, it could have been awkward,
and everyone got along so well and has moved on
because look, timing everything was meant to happen the way
(53:23):
it did. They've they, Chris and Lauren have Now there's
so many Lauren's in our life. Ari and Lauren, Chris
and Lauren, Chris, Chris and Lauren. Yeah, there's a lot
of there's a lot of us. Okay, we have someone
(53:47):
very excited. We're going back up to Canada, this time
to Ottawa, Ontario. Um, a very very excited. Well, we
have a Lauren on the lawn. Oh my gosh, Hi Lauren,
it's Lauren. How are you Lauren? When I was talking
about all Lauren's, I didn't see that we have a Lauren.
You know what? Lauren? Before we get to your question,
can I ask you, as a watcher of the show,
which I would, I would guess you watch Bachelor yes, okay,
(54:11):
So was it hard for you. There were a couple
of seasons there where there were I think it was
in the Lauren at the time Bushnell years. There were
a couple of seasons where it would be like five
Lauren's in one season, and then I'm covering the show
and I as Lauren, I'm interviewing all these Lauren's and
saying my own name. It was so weird and confusing.
Did you find that where there's some seasons you were
(54:33):
watching You're like, oh my god, everyone's name Lauren. Oh god,
it was more like the story of my life. My
last name is also, Oh your last name is Smith,
like a billy and Lauren Smith's in the world, doesn't
It is just another day. Well, you're going to be
Lauren s Lauren. Nice to meet Lauren. What's going on?
(54:57):
What's your question? Nice to me? You too? Well, I uh, Chris,
You're wonderful. But I have to say, Lauren, I'm a
huge Lauren's Ema fan. Oh my gosh. I think you
were fantastic and I got to know you through your
Roses and Rose Show and it was my favorite part
(55:20):
of watching The Bachelor, Bachelorette or whatever. We were watching. Um,
it was just the biggest treat to come watch in
your take on what's going on, nobody else's take on
what's going on is as funny or clever as yours,
and you and I happened to be I think about
the same age. UM, so all of your reference points
(55:44):
are my absolute favorite from Harry Potter weird nineties shows.
YEA question is, well, do you think you would ever
do anything like that again? I really you're maybe not
so much in the bachelor world anymore, and that's totally understandable. UM,
(56:05):
but do we get to see joy who you are
and how your take on things beyond just like Instagram
and stuff like that. Oh my gosh. Well, thank you
so much. And yes we are right there in the
same age. Happy early birthday. UM. And you know, us millennials,
we've been through enough, haven't we. Chris is rolling his eyes, UM, Lauren,
(56:28):
thank you. Yes, UM, I will absolutely love to do
something like that again. UM. I think I I've really
taken uh you know, this time to um kind of rebound.
I guess I've been working a lot lately on getting
back on Instagram a lot more. I I do think
(56:49):
I shut down for a little bit with um, everything
that Chris and I went through. Honestly, um wow, I'm
really just I'm unloading on you, Lauren. But I've been
working on opening back up again and I would love
to do that again. It was truly the joy of
my day every day at work. Um and yeah, so
(57:12):
you know, I think Chris and I have some stuff
in the works and I absolutely want to do something
along those lines again. Yes, yeah, Well that's really exciting
and absolutely understandable that you would need time and space
to regroup because of course, like I know, you're you're coming,
You're obviously coming from an authentic place when you do
what you do, and you have to be a human
(57:34):
and and heal anyway in order to regroup and be
able to do something like that again. So Lauren, thank you,
thank you for your support. I really appreciate it. I'll
get weird again. We're gonna get weird again, I promise. Awesome.
I look forward to it. Lauren. What Harry Potter House
are you? Yes? Strong huff energy from Laurende It I
(57:58):
could feel. Yeah, every time I take the quiz, It's
like hufflepuff every time. I love it. Lauren, Thank you
it's so good to talk to you. Thank you. Yeah,
thanks for jotting nice. I appreciate it, all right, take
care of and you know, it's funny your Roses and Rose.
You've been doing it for a while and I hadn't
(58:20):
really watched that much. And it was really when we
started dating that I got into it and then got
obsessed with it. And I really it was almost like
I wanted an advanced copy because I wanted to know,
like what you were going to find funny, what you
were going to dive into. It was always interesting to me,
(58:41):
like what I would watch the show and here's what
I would think, But it was always fascinating to see
what you would find comedy in We would take away
different things. Yeah, yeah, I mean it was it was
fun to see to like play that game with each
other and analyze everything. And people would ask me if
you watched it, and I'm like, yess, he watches that
every ligiously. I got so into it. I loved my
(59:04):
my weekly Rose and Rose update, and it was an
honor and this is not a joke, when I got
to come on and play a part for you, because
it was you know, we always do some sort of
a bizarre acting. And I'm not as good as an
actor as you are. But it was fun when I
got to come on the show and do it, and
it was because you and I were dating, and it
was fun when I got to go in and just
be on set with you. Well, it sounds like we
(59:26):
should do something together in television again. Interesting. That's Oh,
that's interesting. One of my favorite lines from Friends. It's
very obscure. Here's a question. You didn't watch Roses and
Rose until after we started dating. I knew about it,
but I wasn't an avid watcher. Okay, so what you had,
had you seen it at all? Be honest? Yes, you know,
(59:47):
I knew. I knew of it. I know about just
I know about everything that's kind of going on, especially
something that was that popular. Is on entertainment tonight, and
I mean that's a huge part of pop culture of
what you were doing, and it was really popular. But
I wouldn't sit down and watch it religiously every week.
I would catch bits of it. Know that. Well, your
answer makes me happy because I was wondering. I was
(01:00:08):
going to ask you if you had watched it before
we started dating, would you still have dated me? Well?
You didn't lean in kind of a Guilfy show. You
didn't do as many Voldemort impersonations when we first started dating,
lean fully into them. Now now Baltimore is here on
the rig and what what? What was funny? Is your take?
(01:00:31):
And I vividly remember this because it was about the
time when I really started to notice you and the
show and Roses was the Colton season. Can you remember
how much you and I forget your producer's name? J
C made fun of me running after Colton, running after
set it too, like I want to run to you
(01:00:51):
by Whitney Houston. Yeah, well it was a great moment
in TV. Can I tell you honestly, I think to me, Okay,
Hannah came after Colton? And who was after Hannah? Who's
the bachelor out of Hannah's season? I'm blinking. Does that
say something I was gonna to me? Was it? Peter Webber?
(01:01:13):
Oh yeah, oh yes, Oh my gosh, How did I
forget that? But I don't. That was like, that was
a real crescendo of amazing nous of the show where
those Colton and Hannah back to backs. Peter was great.
I mean we had barbed and and clarentatious. I mean,
Claire's ending with Dale was incredible, and Tastia was just
so watchable and lovable. It was pandemic times and were
(01:01:36):
it was interesting in that way. But you're right, there
was that huge crescendo of the Colton Hannah back to
back was a strong time for the show. It was
maybe the well and then Peters of many things on
the show. I will never forget that night in Portugal
with Colton. I will never forget at that night. How
(01:01:56):
real was that? Unbelievably yeah, really ran after him. I
will tell all of you now, because I'm not bound
by anything, I don't have to lie about any of it.
It was real. He legitimately jumped that fence and took off.
And here's why. When I came to work that night
and I was on property for this, it was not
(01:02:18):
where we were staying. We were at a different location
for the date. I drove past a security guard who
was controlling the gate. Obviously we didn't want just regular
folks walking into the into the date, so there was
a security guard. So when Colton jumped the fence, I
assumed said security guard would still be there, so not
a big deal. He's going to be right there by
(01:02:39):
the security. Well, we're in Portugal and this guy is
not going to work all hours of the night. And
it was very late, so the security guy had taken off.
He was gone. This is like, I don't know, one
or two in the morning maybe. And so when we
opened the gate and I saw it was pitch black
and there was nobody out there, and Colton was long gone,
That's when I had at ocean moment. And it was
(01:03:02):
a true ocean moment. He jumped up ging fence. That's
what you said. People love when you swear because it
was so rare, the power of an occasional customer. You
know what this podcast has made me realize. I don't
cuss a lot, but I use the words ship from
time to time. And my heart edits out the word ship. Well,
(01:03:22):
ship is a cuss word. I get that, but kind of.
I mean, it's not the most egregious offense. But you're right.
My grandmother would still slap me upside the head if
I said it. But that night definitely was a legit,
real runaway. We lost him and I and I actually
got on the phone with everyone back in l A
and said, guys, We've lost this human being. You're like,
(01:03:46):
do we have insurance? You had one job keep track
of this human being, and we lost him. I gotta
be honest with the security guard of being there made
a difference. Colton is a big guy, by the way,
going to athletic as they come. He was like a
gazelle hopping over that fence and was gone. He is.
You know, we would work out from time to time
(01:04:07):
together and would run on the beaches wherever we were,
and we would be jogging in on do know, Thailand
or wherever we went on his season, and we'd be
jogging along for a couple of miles and I'm kind
of huffing and puffing, and Colton would just kind of
be talking the entire time, and he'd be like, Hey,
I'm just gonna stretch it out a little bit. I'll
be like, okay, yeah, we can pick it up within
a breath. He was a half mile ahead of you.
(01:04:28):
He just he was just like running against a deer.
It was just a joke. He is an absolute freak
of nature. But yes, I will admit that was a
very real moment, as is this call coming in from
Portland's Oregon Jessica says she has a juicy question, Jessica
with the juice. Hi, jess Hi, Hi guys, how are
(01:04:52):
you doing good? Bring this juice to the show? What
is it? So? I've always think everyone talks about the
contracts that everyone's under while being on the show. I
just was curious, like, what are those things you're not
allowed to talk about? And how long you can't talk
(01:05:12):
about those certain things and that kind of tea. Yeah, well,
you know it's I honestly don't know the ins and
outs because I've never signed one. Yeah, contestant contract. I
have a very different contract, um, you know, an employment
contract that I was under, um, But as a contestant,
whether it's American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, you name it.
(01:05:37):
The main name of the game is to control the information. Obviously,
don't give away an ending. You don't want to know
who wins Dancing, You don't want to know who wins
the Bachelor ahead of time, spoilers. And then it is
mostly behind the scenes stuff. Obviously they probably don't want
you talking about production, how the sausage is made, so
(01:05:57):
to speak. Those are the main points. And then controlling
your and this is the difficult part, especially with exposure
and now with influencers and Instagram, because that changed. Obviously,
when we started the show back in two thousand two,
none of this stuff was an issue. We didn't have
to worry about Instagram and Twitter and TikTok and all
this stuff. But with the advent of all this, it
(01:06:19):
had to get a little bit more strict of the content.
What you're promoting and who and what what shows you're
you're appearing on, and you know, probably podcasts as well,
had to be run through production that can that kind
of stuff. Nothing that crazy? Oh okay, wow, Why did
I feel like it was so much more than that? Like, oh,
(01:06:40):
when you see someone post oh I can't talk about
him under contract and they have like the emoji with
their finger up to their mouth or something. It depends
on It really depends on the show. It depends on
the show. And it might be now honestly, having been gone,
I don't know, and that they may have gotten a
lot more strict, but you have to ask one of
the contestants. I really don't know. But I did know
that on other os, you know, like Idol and some
(01:07:02):
of these other shows where they want to lock you
up for the year for production purposes and releasing an album.
And you know, the same thing kind of went for
The Bachelor, especially when people started getting so popular. Is
being able to control them and use them for profit themselves,
like having, you know, use if if Caitlin is gonna
(01:07:23):
come back and host a show, we want to use
her as host of the show. And so I definitely
had no say in that, and that was well above
my pay grade. And so I don't know, I'd have
to I'd have to get a copy of one of
the contestants contracts to honestly see what's in there. I
really truly don't know. Z being the investigative reporter, would
(01:07:44):
probably know more than me. Well yeah, just totally. I
mean this was even before we were dating, so it
was a couple of years ago. But I've seen a contract.
I've had contestants share their contracts with me before. Um,
I haven't I read it years ago, so I couldn't
tell you that super speci civic details. But I will
say that I had a lawyer tell me that they
(01:08:05):
thought the contract was quote nuts, Okay. They the contracts
are apparently pretty over the top in terms of what
they try to cover about the person's life. Yes, where
lawyers are involved, I'm sure right, they're gonna try and
just cover every angle and you know, overdo it. Um.
(01:08:28):
But I appreciate, uh, I appreciate the question, and more importantly,
I appreciate you listening to the most dramatic podcast ever.
Have you enjoyed it so far? Yes? Absolutely. Yeah. I'm
a big and a big Bachelor franchise fan, a big
Chris Harrison fan for a long time. So I just
was scrolling through Instagram and said call now. I was like, heck, yeah,
I'm gonna call now. So anyway, that's why I'm here
(01:08:49):
and I love that. And Jessica can now clear it
up if anybody thinks these calls aren't legit. I mean
I I put the number up on Instagram and we
are truly taking calls from all over North America apparently
because we've been up to Canada a few times. And
I love that We've kind of criss crossed the country,
gone up to Canada and been across there as well.
So it's been a great night. I love taking your
calls and love talking to you. Jessica. Appreciate Thanks guys,
(01:09:13):
Thanks Elsie, thank you Elze, I hate to do this,
but we we got to put a rap on this. Wow. Okay, well,
I can't believe that I have seen a bachelor contract
and you haven't. I don't even know. Yeah, I haven't
even thought about it. I never even thought to look
(01:09:34):
at somebody's contract or ask about it. I don't, so,
you know, honestly, there was so it was so far
above my pay grade, and there were so many other
issues and things that I would deal with and had
to worry about that, you know. Getting into that minutia
was never I've heard people talk about it and how
tough it is and all that, but I've never really
gotten into the nuts and bolts of it all. But
(01:09:55):
you have. I love that. I want to say thank
you to all of the callers, everybody who up on
the line to talk to us here tonight, Elz. This
has been great. Oh my gosh, everybody made me feel
so happy. Thank you guys. Um And we had a
couple of juicy questions. But now next time we do this,
I want to be put to the test. I want
people calling in with some really intense Please be careful
(01:10:17):
what you wish for. I don't know if you want
to open that can of worms. But it was great.
I love that we had this. We criss crossed the
country from east coast, west coast all the way up
to Canada, so we have covered North America and it
has been a wonderful experience. And just no because we've
got so many positive comments tonight, just know that we
(01:10:39):
have felt the same and that your comments, your support
always meant the world to us, and it's why we're
doing this. That's why we're doing this podcast. We love
having this platform so we can talk to you and
we can have nights like this, and we'll do this
from time to time. I think at least once a
month for sure, we will open the phone lines and
talk to you. Yes, thank you so much, everybody. Great
(01:11:01):
