Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good
morning everyone, it is Monday, April fourteenth. Welcome to your
morning Run now guaranteed at six thirty am Eastern Time
Monday through Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
I'm Amy Robots and I'm TJ. Holmes. We start through
this morning with a disclosure and a disclaimer perhaps that
like many of you all, you're starting your spring breaks
this week, so are we, but our work does not stop.
We will continue to bring you morning run even though
this week robes. We should confess even as we're sitting
right now, our toes are in the water.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
I won't say the next line of that, but yes,
we are enjoying ourselves, but making sure that we still
stay on top of our morning runs each and every morning.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
This week.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
We started our work at two am here local time.
But it's all it's a labor of love. Would you
not say?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
It absolutely is, but it will continue to come to you.
But just disclaimer, we are going to be a lot
happy or maybe eli groggier than usual this week. But
with that, folks, yes we will go on a run
with you this morning. On today's Morning Run top this
Girl's Trip, six women are headed to Space this morning,
Katy Perry and Gail King among the crew.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Also this morning, in Trump News, the President tweaks his tariffs,
passes his physical and wants CBS to lose its broadcast license. Yeah,
that's all on a weekend's work for President Trump.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Also on the run this morning, the Pennsylvania governor and
his family escape in arson fire at their home. And
the Hudson helicopter tour company that was shut down after
that deadly crash in New York last week, Well, there
are people who want more companies shut down. We'll get
into that.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Plus the Pope makes a second surprise visit, defying his
doctors but delighting tens of thousands of Palm Sunday worshippers.
And a Minecraft movie keeps its number one spot at
the box office for the second week in a row
and seals its top ranking for twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
And there's no crime in baseball, but golf is a
whole other story. Tears and yes, smiles all around after
Rory McElroy finally won his first Masters yesterday. And yes,
also this morning, we told you we are on spring break.
A lot of you wrapped up your spring breaks or
are starting one right now. But where are most people
(02:19):
going for their spring breaks? We have a top ten
list of US destinations and international destinations that we'll get
into with you.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
All right, We begin our morning run though with a
historic trip to space today. The countdown is on as
of this recording. The all females star studded crew of
Blue Origin is that to take off later this morning
at nine thirty Eastern time from Van Horn, Texas.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yes, is a private space flight going to be crewed
by pop superstar Katie Perry, also CBS's Gail King and
Blue Origin and Amazon owner Jeff Bezos' girlfriend and former
journalist Lauren Sanchez also on board. This is fiance now.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Up, its Beyonce.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Apologies, Oh it was my bad, okay, but I want
to make sure we get that one right. Also on
board this flight is going to be a former NASA
rocket scientist, i should Bow and Amanda Wynn, a bio
astronautics research scientist, alongside movie producer Carrie Anne Flynn.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
This will be the first female only crew since nineteen
sixty three.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
The women will.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Accelerate more than three times the speed of sound on
their way to space.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
It's about an eleven minute ride.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
From what I understand, they will experience a few minutes
of weightlessness before ultimately heading.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Back down and landing in the Texas Desert.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
This is the eleventh crewed mission for Blue Origin. I
was designed to fly without a pilot, of course, and
Nogail King is not going to be up there flying
this thing around. Earlier flights have also had some star power,
including Bezos himself was on one, William Shatner spot Spock,
Captain Kirk, sorry about that, Cankirk, and then of course
Stray did this not too terribly long ago. What was
(03:53):
that twenty.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Twenty twenty two.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
I believe I was in Van Horn, Texas. You were
in New York, and we watched our friend and colleague
go up into space while we collectively held our breaths.
But it all happened as was planned. And yes, we
mentioned a few disclaimers here. But many of you, hopefully
we'll be listening as the launch is prepping, but some
of you might hear this afterwards, and so we encourage
(04:16):
you to watch. We'll be watching today and hopefully all
will go, well.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yeah, and this is all fun, and this is a
very exciting and it's a star stooded trip. But this
is space travel, and this is dangerous stuff. It's risky stuff,
and anybody who cares about anybody that's on that vessel
today is on pins and needles. We didn't realize we
were doing the special report when Stray went up, and
it was all exciting and fun and everybody's excited. But
(04:40):
as soon as we saw him walking to board that thing,
we completely freaked out. We changed our tune completely. And
it just scares you. You see somebody you love going
up like that. So we are certainly rooting going.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Yeah, I got chills from head to toe.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
And you said that I remembered exactly how I felt
watching Stray go up there.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
So good luck to those gals, and we will be
watching next up on the run.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Though.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
In a confusing back.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
And forth on Trump's tariffs over the weekend, it appears
now that electronics like computers, tablets, smartphones, et cetera, will
be exempt from the one hundred and forty five percent
tariff on Chinese imports and the ten percent tariff from
other countries.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Keeping up, folks, However, despite what Robot just said, President
Trump told reporters on Air Force One that we would
give clarification, right, They're going to give clarification on the
issue today, promising to get very specific his words. On Sunday,
White House officials told media outlets that while tech products
may not be included in Trump's newly imposed tariffs, they
will be subject to separate tariffs in a month or two.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Okay, so not now, but later, and we don't know
how much.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Trump followed up himself on social media, writing this there
was no tariff exception announced Friday.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
That was a little bit confusing.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
He went on to write, these products are subject to
the existing twenty percent FETANL tariffs that they've imposed on China,
and they are just moving in a different tariff bucket.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
We are taking a look.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
At semiconductors and the whole electronic supply chain and the
upcoming national security tariff investigations.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Trump added, nobody is getting off the huck.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Okay, So with all this news, so at least for now,
that electronics are not including the tariff. Stock futures are
up as of this recording. This morning, s and P
is up nearly one and a half percent, Nasdaq up
two percent now, Jones up almost four hundred points as
of this recording, so that was some welcome news. But
again it's so much uncertainty. Look, just go buy your
iPhone now because it's going to cost seventeen thousand dollars
(06:36):
possibly by summer.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Yeah, it's these temporary tariffs, that pause on tariffs, potentially
new tariffs. It's all hard to keep up with, but
we'll do our best to each and every.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Day on Morning Run.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Next up on the Run, President Trump publicly called for
maximum fines and punishment against CBS News after watching Sixty
Minutes yesterday.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Makes me want to go back and watch it now,
but it ticked him. He took issue with the program
stories on Ukraine and Greenland, writing on truth Social that quote,
they are not a news show, but a dishonest political
operative simply disguised as news, and must be held responsible
for what they have done and are doing. In his post,
he said CBS should lose their license and called on
(07:18):
the FCC chairman to punish them for their unlawful and
illegal behavior.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Woo whooh yeah woo is right.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Trump is in the middle of a twenty billion dollar
lawsuit against Sixty Minutes over how the show edited its
interview with Kamala Harris during last year's election, Trump has
claimed that the network purposefully edited it to make Harris
look better. Sixty Minutes, of course, denies those claims, and
there's been no response from CBS about Trump's latest rant
against them on social media. But they did settle on
(07:48):
a mediator in that lawsuit, so there is news about
that going forward and hopefully signs of perhaps reaching an
agreement soon.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
All right, we'll continue here on this spring break morning
run with the White House released the results of President
Trump's annual physical It took place at Walter Read on Friday,
and according to the report, President Trump remains in excellent
health and exhibits and I'm quoting here robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological,
and general physical function end quote.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Some other notable portions of the report include Trump had
a colonoscopy last summer and it revealed diverticulitis and a
benign polyp. He was encouraged to have a follow up
colonoscopy in twenty twenty seven. And although it was revealed
that Trump does take medications for cholesterol, cardiac health, and
a skin condition, Trump was very quick to point out
(08:36):
that he got every answer right when it came to
the cognitive portion of his physical exam.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Yeah, I got a plus on this. The report confirmed
the president showing that other report, and that shows that
the President passed what they call the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.
That's a test folks take to see how you're doing upstairs.
I guess had a perfect score thirty out of thirty.
The only other mention of note the President has scarring
on his right ear from that assassination attempt, but doctors
(09:01):
say his hearing remains just fine, all right.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Next up on Iran, the governor of Pennsylvania and his
family had to evacuate after police say a man jumped
a fence and intentionally set fire to the governor's residence.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
This happened in Harrisburg overnight. Governor Josh Shapiro, his wife, kids,
other family members. They just celebrated passover and were all
uninjured in that fire. But their significant fire damage to
the official governor's mansion. When you see some of those pictures,
this was a significant fire that did significant damage to
portions of this home. They were awakened in the middle
of the night. The family was by state troopers banging
(09:36):
on the doors telling them they need to get out. Wow.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
The authority say a suspect has been arrested and is
facing attempted murder and terrorism charges. No motive has been
determined by police as off yet, but the suspect's mother
told CBS News her son is mentally ill and off
his medications. She said she even called police several times
in recent days attempting to get her son picked up.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
She says she tried four different police departments, is what
she told CBS News. Look, we hear stories after the fact,
and the signs were there and they tried to get
people help, and oh my goodness, this could have gone
really really wrong. I know, it is a fire at
the managion. This is a twenty nine thousand square foot homes,
their space if you will, and they were okay, but
it's scary that somebody's able to do this and to
(10:19):
hear the moms try to get them help.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Yeah, I mean, it's just frustrating because we've heard the
story before where you know, moms know, and moms know
that things are off, and when you can't get help
and then something happens, that's got to be just ultimately
so frustrating.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
But thankfully no one was injured. That's the good news
on this story.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Right. We will continue now on this Monday morning run
with that helicopter company involved in last week's deadly crash
on the Hudson. It has shut down. The fa announced
yesterday that the company it's called New York Helicopter Tours
will immediately cease all operations as the FAA reviews the
company's license and safety record.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
A family of five and the pilot all died when
that helicopter went down near the Jersey side of the
Hudson River.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
The cause of the crash has yet to.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Be determined, but there are calls for renewed scrutiny and
regulation of helicopter tours on the Hudson, one of the
loudest voices being Senator Chuck Schumer, who called for the
company to be shut down in the immediate aftermath of
the crash and has suggested that helicopter tour companies have
been cutting corners.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
However, fellow Democrat, the Mayor of New York, sees it differently.
Eric Adams reiterated that the tours are safe, call them
a part of the New York experience, and rejected any
idea of further regulation. Twenty people have died in the
past twenty years and five commercial helicopter crashes on the Hudson.
The investigation into this latest crash is ongoing. They won't
be aided though by flight data recorders. Officials say the
(11:41):
helicopter did not have them on board. Wow, a lot
of money, a lot of attention. Look, tens of thousands
of these. Look, if you live in New York, you
just see helicopters constantly, constant tours, but also a lot
of executives are going back and forth and being shuffled around.
A lot of them. Yes, go to the Hampton's as well,
But the helicopters are all over the place.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
We run on that part of the running path which
goes right by the Wall Street helicopter pad, where we
see these things.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
It's constant.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
We run every single run of ours, we have to
run past that, and we see those tours take off yep,
and it's kind of cool. You stop sometimes just watch
the helicopters take off.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
We have even considered going on one, thinking wow, wouldn't
that be cool?
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Maybe not so much anymore.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
All right, Next up on the run, we're gonna head
to Roam where Pope Francis surprise crowds in Saint Peter's
Square on Palm Sunday by making his second appearance since
his hospitalization.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
You know, this is as good as we've seen him.
And while he looked pretty good at this time, he
wasn't wearing any breathing apparatus since he went against his
doctor's orders. The dude's been a month plus in the hospital.
Doctors say, avoid crowds. Eh, he's out there. Yes, you
remember he was in the hospital initially for a bronchitis
and then it turned into double pneumonia. He had a
couple of what they say, a couple of times he
got close to death. Yeah, but no, he was out
(12:55):
there greeting the faithful. This is the second Sunday in
a row where Pope Francis left the Vatican to meet
with this parishioner.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
He was in a wheelchair, he was handing out candy,
did children, shaking hands with the crowd. Neither appearance Sundays
or the Sunday before was announced by the Vatican, but
the Vatican did say it was waiting before releasing what
role Pope Francis would play this week, which is Holy
Week in the events leading up to Easter Sunday. You know,
it's funny. Not only did his doctor say to avoid
(13:22):
large crowds, he specifically told him to avoid children. You know,
they're little peatrie dishes. They've got so many germs. And yeah,
we all know that.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
We all know that.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Anyone who has school age children understands. So it's I say, funny,
but you gotta love it. He just loves mingling and
being out there with the people, and so he was like,
I feel good, I'm gonna do what I'm supposed to do.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
You know what, I hope I because we followed this
and cover this so closely every single day he was
in the hospital, we were so excited to see him out,
and now I'm like, dude, please go back, please go inside.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Help He at least has like some hand sanitizer near him.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Let's just hope we're gonna see a kid sneeze on him, right,
going to freak out? All right, stay with us here
on this Monday morning run when we come back. The
critics hate it, but apparently people are loving a Minecraft movie,
which is now the biggest movie of the year. Also
coming up, Tears at the Masters and where are you
spending your spring bring all right, folks, welcome back. We
(14:26):
continue on this spring break edition of Morning Run, and
the next leg takes us to movie theaters, and after
just two weeks in theaters, A Minecraft Movie has become
the highest grossing movie of the year. The film brought
in another eighty million dollars in its second weekend, maintaining
its number one spot at the box office. It crushed
the five new movies that opened this weekend, right.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
The King of Kings.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
It's an animated movie about Jesus' life. It came in second,
which is nineteen point one million. You can see the
difference eighty million nineteen point one million. But so far
A Minecraft Movie, which stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa,
has grown. There's two hundred and eighty one million dollars
domestically and five hundred and fifty total when you put
in the worldwide totals.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Yeah, and so all this success comes despite what critics
are saying about it. Despite the reviews. A lot have
slammed this movie. Rydan Tomato scored his forty six percent
that ain't good, even though the audiences are apparently going
to see it. The audience reviews aren't great either. Kind
of lukewarm, but it's something's working.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Yeah, And this spring break they're saying with the kids
out that they think the numbers will be huge again
this week.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
So yeah, it's it's gonna keep on trucking.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
All right, Well we will keep on trucking here on
the next leg of our run with Rory McElroy. He
dropped to his knees, put his head down on the
green and cried like a baby yesterday after winning the
Masters in dramatic fashion. This scene was a culmination of
eleven years of trials and frustration for McElroy, who had
until yesterday won every golf major except one, the Masters,
(15:55):
and he hadn't won a major of any kind in
eleven years. So what I'm saying is, you cry like
any baby you want. He let all that emotion out.
He wasn't crying like a but he was crying like
a grown man who's been through a lot the past
eleven years.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Oh yeah, yeah, but it's beautiful to watch. Actually.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Mclroy is the number two ranked golfer in the world
and widely regarded as one of the best in the game,
but after winning four majors in a three year stretch,
ending In twenty fourteen, he hit a big.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Dry spell of majors. But yesterday, yeah, he finally got
that green jacket.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
And it was dramatic because he actually went into with
a two stroke lead in the final day but ended
up tied with Justin Rose late in the round. They
had to go to a sudden death playoff. This is
overtime for golf. A sudden that's hilarious.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
I didn't even know that that happened. If you have
a sudden death.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
You play, you'll hold a hold a hole. Whoever wins
the whole one on one.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Is that really rare?
Speaker 2 (16:49):
That's how that's how it goes.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
I don't watch golf.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
They haven't done with the Masters is twenty seventeen. But yeah,
it happens to golf, and it's cool to watch. Sometimes
they go one hole too.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
I would watch that part of golf because the rest
of it is so boring to me.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Eighteen holes.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
I would skip the eighteen holes and I would watch
the sudden death like it's like watching a game of
putt putt.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
I would totally love that.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
This is why we don't watch sports together. So Roy
won the sudden playoff on the first hole, He is
now one of only six players who have ever won
all four majors, Tiger Jack Nicholas among that group. Get
this now four point two million? Nice, that's what he
wins for. You know who the guy you beat won
two point three or something. Wow, man, I should have
gone into golf.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Those are tears of joy, all right. For the final
leg of our run. A lot of people might have
just wrapped up or are just starting. There are spring
breaks this week, and we'll say present party included. I
don't know, we don't know if you can hear it,
but we're sitting outside, and not to rub it in
or anything, but we're looking at the Caribbean see and
(17:50):
the waves are gently hitting the shore. So if you
were hearing something in the background, it might be the
gentle breeze or the gentle ocean waves crashing in the
disc's sorry, all right.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Well, a lot of people apparently are headed to Florida.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Triple A's top ten US spring break destinations includes four
cities in the Sunshine State.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Duh. A lot of people trying to get away from
colder weather, so yes, Florida is a good option. Florida
has the weather. They got the beaches, they got the
theme parks, and yes they have I think two or
three of the busiest cruise ports in the world down there,
so yes, a lot of people end up going there.
So your top ten spring break destinations? One Orlando, hmmm,
I wonder why there's Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta number three surprised
(18:37):
me a little bit. Miami, New York, Honolulu, Los Angeles area,
then Tampa, Chicago, and Charlotte. Those are your top ten.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
I have to say, obviously, we just escaped from New York.
And I say escape because I kept thinking of all
the spring breakers that were there, at least over the weekend.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
The weather was so dismal is I mean, it was
like I.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Think I saw a real field temperature of twenty one
with rain. It was actually thirty four.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Now it feels like you're rubbing a dam with the way. No,
but I think now it's too much. Come on.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
I think it's getting a little better for spring breakers
in New York this week. I hope, I hope.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
But on the international side, here's the list of top
ten destination and it includes eight cities in Europe. The
number one destination Rome, number two London, Number three Paris,
number four, Amsterdam, all the tulips so pretty this time
of year, Lisbon, Dublin, Aruba made it, Barcelona, Tokyo and Madrid.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Those are all fantastic cities to visit.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
Average round round trip ticket for US spring breakers is
up seven percent. This is actually higher than I would
have thought. Eight hundred and twenty dollars.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Wow, a lot of those college kids fun first class.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
No, I was gonna say, no, they're not. And then
the average round trip international ticket, what it's fourteen forty Look.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
It cost a lot to go to Paris and Amsterdam
and London.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
I didn't realize it was that expensive. That's up two
percent from last year. International hotel prices are down four percent,
but US hotel prices are up eight percent six hundred
and sixty bucks. And again that's pretty expensive.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
It's a whole, not a nine. I think that's for
the whole Oh okay.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
I was going to say, like, what are they all
staying at the Saint Regis or what?
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Huh okay?
Speaker 2 (20:19):
Well, again, for a lot of you folks out there,
it is this is the first vacation of the year
for a lot of people is to get out for
spring break. So if you're out there by amies. Hope
you're having a safe one and having a good win
and getting some much deserved rest and relaxation from all
the chaos of the world.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Absolutely, so as you go about your day, we'd like
you to consider this.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Found this one from probably one.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Of our collective, our mutual favorite authors motivational speakers in
the world, Michael Singer. We talk about him often, We
should talk about him more, actually, but I loved this
quote and hope it speaks to you as well. In
order to grow, you must give up the struggle to
remain the same and learn to embrace change at all times.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
It's hard to do. Change is hard, but it's inevitable.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Yeah, and we know that. But what it is, the
resistance to change is the thing that's.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Hard, that causes suffering.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
That is the thing.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
So that's what he says.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Take that with you today, folks. In order to grow,
you must give up the struggle to remain the same
and learn to embrace change at all times. That from
Michael Singer and from TJ. Holmes. Thank you from running
with us. I'm really curious to hear how old the
wind and the waves sound on this particular morning run,
(21:34):
so let us know what you think, so we will
certainly be running with you again tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
All right, thank you for running with us. Hope you
have a wonderful day everybody. I'm Amy Robot. Enjoy your
Monday
