Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Good morning everyone, It's Tuesday, July fifteenth. Welcome to Morning Run.
I'm Amy Roboch and.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
I'm TJ Holmes and on the run this morning, President
Trump tells Putin, You've got fifty days to end the
war with Ukraine, and yes, it came with a threat.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Plus the Supreme Court clears the way for Trump to
move forward with his plans to dismantle the Department of Education,
and Democrats joined Trump's magabase criticizing the Trump administration's handling
of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Also subways flooding in New York City that was just
part of a mess of a day yesterday after severe
storms triggered flash flooding in the area. Also say what
you want about Andrew Cuomo, but he's no quitter. He
lost the Democratic primary for New York mayor, but has
found a way to keep running.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
And someone still unreleased Beyonce music from a rental car
parked out inside a food hall in Atlanta. We'll explain. Plus, Starbucks'
secret menu is not so secret anymore. Did you know
you could order a cookies on top drink?

Speaker 1 (01:10):
And what do you do if your husband moves his
mistress into your home. It happened to one of our
listeners slash readers, who reacted and reached out asking us
is this marriage worth saving? It's part of our Yahoo
column that we'd like for you to chime in on

(01:30):
and don't judge too quickly. It sounds like a no brainer,
but maybe it's not.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Yes, I always love these questions. They always are thought provoking,
so we can't wait to hear what you think about it.
But we begin our run with a deadline and an ultimatum.
President Trump has put Russian President Vladimir Putin on the clock,
giving him fifty days to end the war with Ukraine
or else or else what.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
You ask severe tariffs And yes, the President used that
word severe, President promising potentially crippling tariffs if President Putin
doesn't agree to end the Russia Ukraine war in fifty days.
The President's threat came during an Oval Office meeting yesterday
with the head of NATO, and it signals a decidedly
different tone and approach from Trump on the Russian Ukraine War.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
He didn't give all the details, but the tariff would
be at one hundred percent on Russia, and the President
also said he would impose secondary tariff's, meaning they would
be imposed on any country doing business with Russia, a
tactic meant to put further pressure on Putin to come
to the negotiating table. Meanwhile, and also a part of
the President's shift, he announced a new plan to send

(02:38):
US weapons to Ukraine. Billions of dollars in weapons.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
And this is a very big deal and part of
a very big shift from the president, a major reversal
in policy. Under this new plan, NATO countries would buy
the billions in US weapons and then those countries would
transfer those weapons over to Ukraine. Why do this, Well,
it means you me not footing the bill for the weapons. Yes,

(03:03):
US taxpayers. By doing it this way, it's not doesn't
take an Act of Congress. It's not US taxpayer money.
We sell them, they transfer them over. So it's another
way to go about it. But this is a big,
big deal to major policy shifts from the president.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
All right. Next up on Iran, the Supreme Court has
given President Trump a major win, telling him he can
go right ahead with his plan to dismantle the Department
of Education.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
A lower court's earlier order said Trump's mass firings that
the DOE were likely illegal and put a stop to
them at least a whole, But the Supreme Court Monday,
without explanation, reversed that decision has now cleared the way
for the firings to move forward. The department laid off
fourteen hundred employees in March. It's about half the Department
of Education workforce.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
So is that a restructuring or is that a dismantling.
That's the question that has been at the heart of
this court case. And the White House is arguing that
the President has the right to make staffing adjustments. Problem is,
the President has repeatedly expressed his desire to dismantle the
Education Department and even sign that executive order directing the
Education Secretary to take steps to facilitate the closure of

(04:09):
the department.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yeah, we're saying one thing in public, but for the
sake of court, he's saying something else.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Right, So just a restructuring, Yes, that's.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
What he's saying, even though he has declared, even on
the campaign trail, promised he was going to close the
Department of Education. So the justices that voted in favor
of this, they didn't put out anything explaining their decision.
Don't have to Wasn't that crazy of an idea that
they didn't do so because this was an emergency appeal
by the president. But the three liberal justices did dissent,

(04:37):
and they did write out how they felt about it,
and justice sort of I wrote for the dissenting justices, saying,
when the executive publicly announces its intent to break the
law and then executes on that promise, it is the
judiciary's duty to check that lawlessness, not expedite it. That is,

(04:57):
we talk about so much legalis and whatnot. We don't
unders I get that way.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
I don't makes perfect sense.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Yeah. She went on to say the majority is either
wilfully blind to the implications of its ruling or naive.
But either way, the threat to our constitution separation of
powers is grave. That is as clear and concise of
language you will ever hear from a Supreme Court justice.
By the way, we continue to argue about shutting this
thing down. He can't even do it. Congress, of course,

(05:25):
created the DOE. It would take an Act of Congress
to eliminate it.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Trump is just right sizing things. That's all right side,
Remember that that's why like a corporation thing when they
start firing people, they're just their right sizing. There's always
a just a cute way to put a button on
something that actually is fairly devastating. All right. Next up
on our run, they say politics makes strange bedfellows. Well,
that is certainly the case with the Magabase and Democrats

(05:52):
uniting over Jeffrey Epstein. Both groups are criticizing Attorney General
Pam Bondi and the Trump administration for their handling of
the Epstein files.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
It's just this one thing, though, MAGA and the Democrats
are uniting on. Okay, let's not get too excited, just
the one thing. So over the weekend, the President tried
to come to Bondi's defense, but it didn't appear to
calm the outrage. After the Justice Department and FBI said
there was no evidence of an Epstein client list and
that Epstein in fact died by suicide, Trump posting, what's

(06:21):
going on with my boys and in some case gals.
They're all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was
doing a fantastic job. We're on one team, MAGA and
I don't like what's happening. We have a perfect administration
the talk of the world, and selfish people are trying
to hurt it all over a guy who never dies
Jeffrey Epstein end quote.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
I say said in a way only Trump could say
it right. Well, The Democratic National Committee has launched a
new account on x that is posting daily to remind
its followers that Trump has not released the Epstein files.
The account has also been reposting related criticism, including the
comments Elon Musk made about Trump being in the Epstein files.

(07:05):
And we should point out there is zero evidence to
back that up, and must did take down the tweet,
but the Democrats have put it back up for all
to see.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Okay, and this is a family effort. Now Trump has
recruited his daughter in law. Fox News hosts Lara Trump
tried to calm the situation yesterday, acknowledging there should be
more transparency transparency on the administration's handling of the case,
but offering that more information would be released sooner rather
than later.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
How would she know that maybe she has some inside information.
She said that she believes there is still more to come.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Okay, But she also did tell her viewers that to
everybody out there, who's all worked up about it. There's
no great plot to keep this information away that I'm
aware of.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
That I'm aware of. Yes, there's always a nice caveat there.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
All right, save yourself that covers you on so much.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yes that I currently know right now. What I can
tell you is this, I know nothing, all right. Next
up on the run, dangerous flash flooding in the New
York City area. Grounded planes, submerged vehicles, halted trains and subways,
creating panic for millions of people. All five boroughs of
New York City and parts of New Jersey were under

(08:13):
flash flood warnings Monday night.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Okay, this was scary enough that officials were warning people
who were living in basement apartments to stay alert, be
ready to leave, and said you should keep a phone,
a flashlight, and a go back with you by your
side throughout the night. An entire subway line had to
be suspended as water poured into and flooded stations along
the one, two, and three lines. Everybody here in New

(08:35):
York understands what that is. But we have probably two
main arteries in Manhattan that go from all the way
lower Manhattan all the way up north. That's the one
two three. It might be the most important line other
than the four, five, six, but this is a major,
major line to be flattered.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, we're on that line almost daily. And if you
want to check out this video, it is so scary.
I looked at it, and we were on the subway yesterday,
and I can't imagine and how I would have thought,
how we would have felt walking off the train and
seeing what these commuters saw. They were rushing up the
stairs as water was gushing down onto subway platforms. I mean,
that is scary imagining being trapped in one of those

(09:13):
subway cars. Woof major roadways were shut down during the
height of rush hour because of the flooding. New Jersey's
governor declared a state of emergency as floodwater submerged vehicles.
There just ten minutes from Newark. People might have an
idea where that is. Videos were showing people waiting out
of their homes in water above their knees.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Okay, we got Westchester County that's nearby as well. Officials
there say first responders were called out to rescue dozens
of people trapped in their vehicles from rising waters. All
three major New York City airports had massive cancelations and
delays like a normal day. Really complete ground stops are
both Laguardi and Newark. That is not a daily occurrence.
There are more potential more potential storms, yes, predicted in

(09:53):
the area starting Wednesday, though not do we get a
little break today, a little.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
Break today, but Wednesday, Thursday all looked like the potential
for understorms and flash flooding. So they're asking folks to
stay on alert time.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
We're asking you to stay with us on this morning
run when we come back. They have called Andrew Cuomo
all kinds of names. Well, don't call him a quitter. Also, Beyonce,
you might have a new album coming out. She didn't
even know it. Also, I didn't know that Starbucks had
as secret menu, so we can all learn about that
together this morning.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Welcome back everyone to this Tuesday morning run and next
up on our run. If at first you don't succeed,
try running as a third party candidate. Andrew Cuomo is
still trying to be the next New York City mayor.
After that devastating defeat in the Democratic mayoral primary last month,
the former New York governor announced yesterday he is officially
running on a third party ticket. He can't really run

(10:55):
as an independent right because Eric Adams is doing that,
so he's now with the Fight and Deliver Party.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
This was all set up and created for this potential scenario,
so he maybe saw this coming. But yes, this now
sets up a potential rematch between Cuomo and Zoron Mamdanni,
the upstart, social media savvy, relatively unknown assemblymen and Democratic
socialists who pulled off an upset in the Democratic primary.
But his effort, or Cuomo's effort comes with a twist.

(11:22):
When do you think about this? Ropes? He says that
if he isn't the highest polling contender to Mumdani by
mid September, he'll get out of the race, and he
wants other candidates to pledge to do the same.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Because he wants Mamdanni to not become the next mayor.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
There are folks who are coalescing around Zoran Mamdani. There
are others who are saying, we have to do everything
we can to make sure he is not the next
New York City mayor. So yeah, they're kind of putting
a plan together to try to defeat him, and.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Mom Donni did that with other Democratic primary candidates as well. Saying,
if you don't vote for me, vote for you know,
the next one. Like they were the Ring file system.
They were really trying to you know what, they were
all trying to.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Do that for anyone trying to argue that this isn't
fair or we're trying to team up. This is exactly
what they did to bring down Cuomo.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Exactly, so now he's doing it back to them. So
it's kind of you know, well, all all is fair
in love and war, but maybe politics too.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Okay, nothing is fair, nothing.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
Is fair, nothing all right? Next up on a run,
Beyonce might have some new music coming out, whether she
likes it or not, because police say someone stole previously
unreleased Beyonce music. Of course, she's one of the biggest,
most influential, most visible entertainers on the planet. So how
could something like this happen.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
This is how it happens, because that music was stored
on hard drives. Those hard drives were packed in suitcases.
Those suitcases were left in a rental car. That rental
car was parked at a popular food hall in Atlanta.
The people who were driving that rental car went inside
to get some food. And it's that simple. That's what happened.

(13:04):
It's just left in a car in a very busy
food haul. We've been there, You've seen this place in Atlanta.
It is busting, bustling all the time, and somebody sure
enough got this stuff. Well who was responsible for Well,
a dancer and a choreographer who work with Beyonce said
they left their stuff in that rental car and yeah,
went in to get food, came back, window was smashed

(13:27):
and the car stuff was gone. Ah.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
I wonder if they were targeted though, if they knew
who they were. This was just a random active.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
There's a lot of these random acts in Atlanta. Really,
I have experienced this in Atlanta, and you've seen me
every time we got out of a car.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
I say, very careful, you move.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Everything to the back. Just make nothing visible. Just somebody
walking by, even if it's a jacket. Maybe they're cold
at that moment and needed and just bust out your window,
leave nothing visible.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Yeah, you are good about that. I am not. You
put everything in the trunk. So, in addition to the
unreleased Beyonce music, that thief also got away with information
related to Beyonce's set lists for different shows, as well
as other details about her shows that are not meant
for the public. Beyonce did four shows in Atlanta before
wrapping her tour on Monday. But this is yeah, this
is not anything anyone wants to have happened to their

(14:14):
music and to their creativity.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
How bad her? Those two that work with her, how
bad do they feel?

Speaker 2 (14:21):
So?

Speaker 1 (14:22):
And they do. They haven't arrest warrant with the person,
but they haven't identified the person publicly, But yes, they
are trying to arrest this person. Next up on the
run here. I had no idea that there was a
secret menu at Starbucks. So it's no longer a secret,
I'm told, But I didn't know if there was ever
a secret.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
You just weren't in on the note.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Starbucks had a secret menus?

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Correct?

Speaker 1 (14:42):
People knew this? Yes, okay? So on Monday, Starbucks began
allowing customers to use their mobile app to access secret
items that are not listed on the regular menu. There
are now four new previously hidden drinks available through the app.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yes, and would you like to know what they are?

Speaker 1 (15:00):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (15:00):
My Cookies on Top, dragon Fruit, Glow Up Out, lemon
Tea and Popping Pearls, and white Mocha Shaken.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Espresso they should stay on the secret menu.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Well that's just the beginning though. Starbucks said there will
be new drink combinations released regularly, but through the app only.
It won't be on the menu when you walk in.
You have to be able to access your app know
to get in. And customers can get even more excited
because the company began a contest. It started yesterday and
it goes through Sunday.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
So they want you to submit your own customized beverage
and then vote on your favorite and Starbucks says it
will determine how the drinks stack up based on taste, creativity,
and fan of bill and then give winners up to
twenty five thousand dollars in prize money. Why did you
lead with that? Okay, I'm in now.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
What would be your drink combination? You don't even have coffee,
so I don't even know what you would come up.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Every time you order a coffee, I say, what is that?
What's the one? The Americano? Which is what?

Speaker 2 (15:55):
That's just espresso with hot water. It's as basic as
it gets.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Okay, what's the cappuccino?

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Well, I get a brevet cappuccino, so that is half
and half steamed foam with espresso, and I usually get
an extra shot, So there are three shots of espresso
in my Grande drink with a foamed half and half.
That's not even that complicated of a drink order.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
You didn't hear yourself. Listen to this back and you'll
see how complicated it was.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
All right, let's move on to the final leg of
our run. Aralia needs our help. She is a listener
just like you, but she wrote into us on our
weekly Yahoo Relationship column with this question, my husband moved
his mistress into our house. Can our marriage be saved?

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Okay? I know you hear that and you go, well, duh, no,
you need to get out of there. This is a
no brainer. But folks, before you react harshly or possibly judge,
you should hear her out. Her full story and question
to us is in this week's new edition of our
Yahoo column ask Amy and TJ. You can find it

(16:56):
by simply going to Yahoo dot com and click on
the life section. There have been We've had this going
now with four or five weeks now with Yahoo, and
it's been just an absolute blast. But to engage in
a lot of these conversations about relationships, hell, even love Island, USA,
had a lot of conversations about relationships that we were
all having.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
Yeah, it's interesting because everybody, everybody's life is messy. You know,
we can all point the finger at other people, but
when you start looking at and listening to some of
these readers questions, there are some moments where we can
all relate, and we can all offer help, suggestions and
perhaps release the judgment that maybe we are quick to
jump to. I think in a lot of other people's lives,

(17:35):
but this is a mirror window into probably a lot
of folks that people just don't want to talk about.
So I love the idea that people are in a
safe space to say what they're going through. Should we
give some of the questions or should we just let
direct people? Yeah? Just plus just direct people. Check it
out Yahoo, go to the life section. You can read
or her what's her? Her name was? Oralia's full question? And

(17:58):
then yeah, please leave a comment because we love to
read the comments. There are a lot of folks who
have already wighed in. We encourage you to do so
as well, but we would like to leave you with
something to think about as you go about your day today.
I'm very excited about today's quote of the day.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Monsters are real and ghosts are real too. They live
inside us, and sometimes they win. Perfect quote, and when
we tell you it's from it will make perfect sense
to you.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
Stephen King one of my idols. I love him, his brain,
his mind, he is fascinating. But I loved this quote
and it was on brand for him, and it spoke
to me because yes, we are our own worst threats,
are we not? So remember everyone, Monsters are real and
ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes

(18:46):
they win. Let's make sure they don't today. And with that,
thank you for running with us everyone.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
I'm Amy Robots and I'm TJ. Holmes.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Will see all soon.
