Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, there are folks. It is Wednesday, August thirteenth. It
has been a little over a week now since we
heard about that mon talk mystery, but we still don't
know if it's a murder mystery. As the questions continue
to pile up and answers robes are few and far between,
welcome everybody to this episode of Amy and TJ. We
(00:24):
should say off the bat, look, there are so few
official answers robes that there's so much speculation and kind
of salacious headlines out there that we are absolutely going
to stay away from. But there's very little officially coming
from authorities on this.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
I think it's fair to say that the mystery has
deepened because when authorities don't come out and say anything publicly,
and yes, it's been a week and a day actually
since she passed, and the fact that there is still
no determined cause of death, they haven't ruled out foul play.
What happens is everyone else starts filling the void. When
(01:01):
you have a vacuum of information, people just start putting
things together that may or may not be true. And
that's the hard part. When you have this death, this
highly unusual death in a part of the world where
it doesn't typically happen. Add to the fact that she's beautiful,
she was in the fashion industry. She was found on
(01:22):
a yacht away from her boyfriend. Reportedly, it's creates all
of these rumors, and it's sad because there is already
this tragedy, and I feel for her family as people speculate,
almost for sport, about what may have happened to her,
what that must do to their mourning.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
You know, I didn't realize you just told me this
before we started recording. You said, wow, people are mean.
Some of the comments here like what are they? Why
are you going after the girl that's dead? And I
didn't put it together until you said it. But there's
a lot of that folks floating around. Please try to
stay away from it, and please don't participate in it,
because this is a young woman who died far too soon,
(02:02):
thirty three years old, and a reminder who this is
Martha and Martha nolan o'slaterra fashion designer lives in New
York but from Ireland originally, but found overnight Monday into
Tuesday on a yacht, found unconscious, non responsive. But I
guess then Robes they told us. Of course, there was
(02:24):
no evidence of any violence to her body. But then
some of the details were being reported about witnesses and
what they saw and heard that night.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yes, so some they're being called good Mariitans. But folks
nearby on a boat there in the marina said that
they heard yelling, they saw a man. There are reports
about what that man may or may not have been wearing,
saying basically asking for help, throwing sunscreen or throwing other
items onto boats to try and wake people up. Because
this was around yes, midnight, Tuesday morning, early and when
(02:58):
one of those good Smaritans they said they were trying
to perform CPR on her, but it was far too
late at that point by the time paramedics arrived on
the scene.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
So and again a reminder folks of where we're talking about.
This is one of the most exclusive areas of all
the Northeast, fair to say, but this is Montalk at
the very very tip of Long Island, essentially the very
tip of the United States to a certain degree. But
you hear about the Hamptons all the time, people going
to the Hamptons. Well, this is a part of the
Hamptons at the far east end right there at the tip.
(03:31):
You could be standing on the tip of Montague and
have pretty much ocean almost surrounding you because of where
you are. It's a beautiful area, exclusive, celebrity written, but
very much family centered and as a surfer town as well.
It really is a cool spot.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, and we've talked about this last week when this
news came. We had been in Montalk for that entire
week when this mystery death occurred, and so it certainly
was the talk of the town, the talk of the Hamptons,
and the talk of Montalk. In there. There was real
concern that there could be a murderer on the loose
and that has not been ruled out. And because police
haven't said much and they haven't given any actual information
(04:12):
about what happened to her, how it happened to her,
people again just start talking. And these rumors can be
vicious and they can be false, and they can be misleading.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
But the latest we can give you, But there hasn't
been a whole lot. But we did good word at
least from her family. There was a death announcement we'll
share with you here in just a moment, but the
official death announcement that was posted said that funeral arrangements
are set to be announced this week. We did hear
from our business partner. We'll share what he wrote as
well the details about the boyfriend. We will tell you
(04:46):
who he is and we can get that information from
her actual social media pages, so we do know this
isn't speculation. This is someone she was dating. And also
just a reminder here of folks we talk about the
cause of death robes. Yes, they said no evidence of
violent her body, so we must wait now. But these
toxicology reports can take months.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yes, it could take up to three months. Several outlets
are reporting, but then you can read from other outlets
saying that because of the extensive public interest in this
story and the concern that perhaps for folks who live
or vacation in that area, that there could be if
there were a foul play, that would be a very
important information for folks who live and are around that area,
(05:29):
So they say it could be expedited. Could Some people
are even reporting that those reports could come out this
week or within the next couple of weeks. It does
take time, though, and we've seen that before in previous cases.
Regardless of just how public this story is or the
level of interest in this story or even the concern
among folks in the community. Sometimes it just takes the
(05:52):
time that it takes period.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Even I think, can't we remember, even celebrity cases, very
high profile cases, we don't find out for white some
time when what exactly happened to folks. But the death
announcement here in rogues that the official one that was
posted in Ireland, where she's from, recognized her as being
(06:14):
from two places, from Ireland and from the Upper East
Side in Manhattan, New York. But it starts out that
she passed away unexpectedly on August fifth, twenty twenty five.
Beloved daughter of Elma, much loved sister of Jackie, treasured
granddaughter of Betty and Liam, cherished niece of John Michelle,
Barry and Mona, and adored partner of Nick. Exactly. So
(06:38):
they actually and I didn't catch to catch this earlier,
but they actually in the death.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Announcement acknowledging her boyfriend and some of the reports they
say that this was a serious relationship. He had gone
with her to Ireland over the Christmas holidays and her
family and friends were expecting an engagement announcement soon. She
had just recently. We're not sure if she had her
divorce had been finalized, but we do she was in
the process of being divorced or having been divorced through
the spring, So this was her boyfriend. If you look
(07:06):
on her TikTok account, you can see him all through
out there. So they were certainly a couple. And he
is not commenting right now. I'm sure I can't imagine
what he's going through right now, and to have it
be so publicly discussed has to just be an added
layer of trauma and discomfort in an already difficult time.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
And I think we do know he was not with
her that evening, so obviously, so many times people immediately
want to speculate, speculate about the person that she might
have been dating. So I mean, but consider she has
an ex husband in the making and she has a
current boyfriend. Those are two people you'd start looking at.
(07:49):
One of them is thousands of miles away in Ireland
and the others not with her at all. So that
kind of as part of the mystery, eliminates what so
many people would be left to speculate about.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
And so a lot of folks are speculating about who
the owner of that boat was, who she may have
been on that boat with earlier in the day. We
certainly heard from folks in the area who gave reports
to a local news outlet there on Long Island that
she was with a man and they had been seemingly
having a great time on the boat that day when
took another boat out into the ocean, came back and
(08:23):
then continued to party that evening on another boat, which
the name was.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Ripple. Correct, Ripple was the name of the boat. There
are some images out there of it as well. But
she was by all reports, and again first hand accounts
at least given to the local papers there in the
area where yeah, they were having a night. They'd seen
her come and go and seemed to be having a
good time, and they didn't report at all any issues
or anything looking out of place until things were and
(08:54):
until she apparently was already unconscious and this guy was
trying to get help. How do you make sense of
somebody's with her. He's running frantically trying to get help.
What that could what that could mean? He couldn't find
a cell phone? Did he not want to call ninety one? One?
What was going on?
Speaker 2 (09:10):
And police? Really? This is what I know? What deepens
the mystery and creates the speculation is that police in
any official capacity, have not mentioned the owner of this boat.
They haven't mentioned this man who reportedly was with her,
and they haven't acknowledged any of the reports of the
state this man was in while he was trying to
(09:31):
get help from other people nearby to potentially revive Martha,
who was with him.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
But they also say they're not looking for anybody. They
haven't said that once about this case. Look, I know
they need to keep things close to the close to
the vest a lot of time. That's fine. But we
were there in the v day and in the following
days when this was happening, and everywhere you went people
(09:58):
were buzzing up about this thing, and there are kids
running up and down the street. Look, I'm not suggesting
and they're nobody suggesting that there's an AX murder out
there running around in Montalk. But when you don't know
what's happening, what is out there, there are so few answers. Yeah,
I think we told the story last week. We were
just standing around in our little group. A guy we
thought was out of earshot of us, just heard us
(10:21):
say something and he immediately came over and jumped into
the conversation.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yes, this was certainly the talk of the town, and
it's going to continue to be until police actually decide
to give the public some very specific information. And in
the meantime, like I said, people are feeling the boy.
They're making all sorts of connections that may or may
not be true about the owner of the boat, about
(10:47):
why Martha might have been on that boat, and what
her friends are saying, what they've told her, whether or not.
There are reports that she had a very a conversation
with her boyfriend, supposed within an hour or a couple
of minutes before that nine on one call was made.
So there are just all sorts of varying reports that
no one can actually put any truth to.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
But we did hear from at least one of our friends,
a business partner, who did write a short, sweet, loving
tribute to his friend, who he says he laughed harder
with than anybody could ever understand.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Before we go to break, I have to tell you
about new leggings I've been living in lately. They're from
this brand called Tona and fun fact here they were
actually designed by the same visionary behind Lulu Lemon, So
from that alone, you already know they're going to be
pretty good. These leggings feel like a second skin. They're
super flattering, super comfortable, and somehow still support it. I've
(11:47):
been wearing them on my morning runs and they've quickly
become my everyday lounging leggings too. And here's what makes
them even better. Every pair you buy helps fund a
mental health counseling session for a teen in need on
a mission to end teen suicide and self harm, which
we think is so important and incredible. So we've partnered
with Tona to give you twenty percent off your order
(12:09):
and free shipping. Head to tonaactive dot com and use
code iHeart for twenty percent off and free shipping. And
welcome back to this edition of Amy and TJ. And
we are talking about the tragic death the Montalk mystery
(12:33):
really that still is hanging over a big cloud over
the Montalk in the Hampton's area, and certainly to the
families of Martha Nolan, who want to know what happened
to this bright, thirty three year old who had a
booming fashion design company. She had just posted recently that
(12:53):
she was excited. It was a dream come true that
her bikini line was finally being featured at a pop
store at a popular Hampton's resort, Gurney's there in Montak,
So it seemed like everything was going her way. She
had posted about her boyfriend. There was hope about potentially
the two of them getting engaged and getting married. There
(13:14):
just was a big, bright future for this young woman.
And to have her life cut so short on this
yacht mysteriously, at this very tony, expensive yacht club in
montak it just is troubling and head scratching for so
many folks are trying to figure out what happened to
Martha Nolan. We did get word from her business partner.
(13:36):
His name is Dylan Grace, and he posted a beautiful
tribute to Martha upon the news of her death. He wrote,
we dreamed big together, laughed harder than anyone else could understand,
and built so much from nothing. I'm truly blessed and
grateful to have had you in my life. Love you
(13:56):
so much, mar Fly High girl.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
I mean, it's you can't imagine that she has a
friend group that she built up here. But like the
death announcement said, it did acknowledge the people she will
be missed by and it set her extended family relatives
and her large circle of friends in Ireland and the US.
But to have such a it's a sudden death, and
(14:25):
the circumstances make it all most shocking. This stuff just
doesn't happen in Montalk. Mysteries like this don't happen necessarily
a montalk. But we don't know if it's a murder
mystery or not. We don't have any reason to believe
it right.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
There's no reason other than to Notably, the police have
not ruled out foul play. They have said that the
initial autopsy did not show any signs of violence, but
at the same time they have not ruled out foul play,
and that is an important distinction because once they do that,
then yes, it can just be about perhaps what happened,
(14:59):
how a warning perhaps to other folks about what she
could have done differently. But certainly until they rule out
foul play, speculation will continue.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
And I keep saying, I don't know if it's a mystery.
I don't know if it's a murder mystery. But there's
negligence involved, it doesn't have to be a murder necessarily.
Did she get the help she needed with somebody nearby
and saw her in distress, and still didn't call nine
to one one, right because the nine one Why wouldn't
the nine to one one call come in from the
person who's right next to her.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
That's where a lot of folks are questioning. That's a
fair question what could have happened. Also, we all know
that criminal charges are filed against folks who provide certain
substances that lead to a death, So we don't know
if that could possibly be a part of this investigation
as well.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
That's key. Why if I am next to you, if
you are aware enough that I'm in trouble that you
go running for help, why isn't your first thought.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Huh, to pick up your phone and call nine one one?
Why isn't your first thought to start performing CPR on
the person next to you who was clearly in distress.
Those are really important and fair questions.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Oh my goodness, But this, like you said, roll, the
more days go by, the more this mystery will deepen.
We will keep an eye on it. It's still very
much being talked about. I don't know, frankly how in
other parts of the country, but here, certainly in this area,
for good reason. It certainly stays in the headlines.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
It certainly doesn't, you know, And it is said, I
do love that they put that she was both from
Ireland and from the Upper East Side because I was
going through her TikTok. It always just makes it so
much more personal. She is alive, and she's real, and
she's not just this headline. She's not just this name
or this body that was found. She was a real
human who had hopes and dreams. And in some of
(16:50):
these tiktoks that she put up, she said New Yorker nowhere,
and she had songs just celebrating. She was so happy
to be here in this country, to be pursuing her
dream and she was starting off. For anyone who's in
a period of transition from relationships knows that it's kind
of a new start of fresh starts. So it seemed
as if her life was coming back together, not that
(17:11):
it ever fell apart, but things were coming together. And
that's just it's sad when anyone's life is cut short,
but certainly when you see somebody who's been through some
stuff and has been building herself back up, and as
her business partner Dylan said, started from nothing from zero
and built this business up to the point where she
was being featured at a very expensive and well regarded
(17:32):
resort in montc That's a big deal. So it's just
incredibly sad and tragic that this happened, and we hope
we can get some answers. I know her family and
certainly her boyfriend and those who loved her are knocking
down the doors. I'm sure of police departments asking and
begging for answers about what may have happened to Martha Nolan.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
We'll keep it on it, folks. We appreciate you as
always for listening. I'm TJ. Holmes alongside my partner Amy Robot,
will talk to you Elson
