And we will have the big Christmas party on Friday.
Then it will be a lot of best of moments
from the first year for a couple of weeks and
then Lord willing, we come back on the fifth of
January for twenty twenty six and beyond. And we are
excited about that opportunity. And we have certainly enjoyed what
has been, you know, quite a year. It's been a grind.

(03:00):
It has been a grind. Uh and you know it's it.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
There's a there.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
I mean, hey that that rest at the end of
the year is number one.

Speaker 8 (03:11):
Yeah, on Friday, last Friday.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yes, if you don't believe that we're limping into the stable,
just go back and hear Adler on front.

Speaker 9 (03:19):
I'm just trying not to have a like a cry
baby emotional breakdown into the last four shows, and that'll
be a win for me.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
All right, you came in you you were walking like
like you were ready to go. Four more baby, four
put your fours up, get your fours up.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
And I want to wish.

Speaker 9 (03:34):
To celebrate like the first year at the end, like
we could, like I was thinking about this last night.

Speaker 8 (03:38):
We could like smoke some cigars or something. But I
also want to be a good example, so let's not
do that.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Well no, actually what we could do is I just
we could get some high school players come in here
and smoke it with.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
Sit down out there, Fine, who's nineteen anybody over? Anybody
opened up for these cigars?

Speaker 2 (03:57):
You missed the day when you were twelve, and you
could go I know, no, they didn't care, no, you know,
and you could buy cigarettes if you wanted. Oh of
course you could. You know, it's a you know, it
was a tougher generation, not over your healthy, not a
very healthy generation. How about the you and speeding? Now
I noticed, and you know, I just kind of forgotten
this world. So, you know, we went out to eat

(04:19):
Friday night. Last Friday night with Gary. Hey, I got
a little place down there in Clinton. I'll take you
all to you. And so he took us to this
place and we finish the meal and often we look
and Gary has put in a dip and yeah, I
was like, we got you got your dip there? And
I was like, is that skull? He goes, No, he's's Copenhagen.

(04:41):
He had him a dip and in the lobby and
we're not. We ain't paid yet.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
You know, I insulted him if I asked him if
that was a pouch. Oh oh yeah.

Speaker 10 (04:55):
He looked at me like paths, Yeah he did. I
wanted to get on in my passed and I wanted
to get oh yeah, sure.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
You know it's you know, if you ever have anyone
in your life that is addicted to dip. I mean,
you go for that ride with him, hey.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
But that clear bottles would spin in Oh my gosh,
you you you get I like, say, my roommate in college,
Greg Haystack Stewart.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Let me let me tell when he knew he had
a problem when he started having to use his dips
and put it in his top lip. I mean his
dips had to be right in the middle of his
center between his two front teeth. And I said, you
think that's maybe an issue that it's eating up the
rest of the.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
Normal bottoms worn out.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, the bottom was worn out so bad he had
to start taking dips in the top lip.

Speaker 5 (05:42):
I was that buddy, you got to do something right.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
When you wake up the morning, your first thing is
I'm gonna give me a dip right off. Stand now,
let me say my whole life revolved around him hearing
that sound where they would take that and they and
they clicked the back of that Oh yes, and they're
getting it all together, get that dip. And then he'd
be over, we gotta stop and get somewhere and get
some divj gey And I'm like, I'm like, you know,

(06:07):
can younot wait?

Speaker 5 (06:08):
Well, I gotta have DIPTA have dip now.

Speaker 9 (06:10):
That comf is so gross that even the Harley mechanics
at the Harley shop that I worked at asked our
boss to spray paint the bottle that he would always use,
and he.

Speaker 8 (06:19):
Did appreciate because it was just too gross. So we
can't see in there, buddy, you don't want to see
you in there.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
A good clear bottle.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
I want you to picture Adler a dorm, A dorm room, okay,
because you know we were and we were older, because
we were we were freshman in college. Uh, I want
you to picture a dorm room. You know how how
great those are? Anyway, and around the dorm room there's
various I mean, and he did because he didn't like
to switch. He would get a two leader and and

(06:46):
just until it was full, he was just spitting a
two leads. He and those two leaders were all over
the room.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
It was terrible. Yeah, it was horrible.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
So uh so, anyway, does he did he ever beat that?
As his stack still dipping, I think he is?

Speaker 9 (06:59):
Is he?

Speaker 5 (07:00):
I can't see him without addiction? I can't either.

Speaker 8 (07:05):
Back to you guys's point of little kids being able
to buy it. It is a highly addictive drug. Addictive.

Speaker 5 (07:10):
I remember saw that first add Yeah, this was I
guess they won't let them do it now, but years
ago and it was like somebody.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
I think at least it's dad. You know, when if
you're go into surgery, they'll get you there before daylight.
Oh yeah. So we were all sitting in the waiting
room and it was it wasn't even sun up yet,
and all of a sudden, the elevator opens and here
comes people with gowns, pushing their.

Speaker 5 (07:32):
IV poles outside so they can smoke.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Patience, you're right, pushing their IV poles looked like the
walking dead. And they all got out there and stood
around and smoked with their IV polls and then went
back to it. It's unbelievable patience. These were patientationship. Well,
it's it's highly addictive because well think about it. If
if it wasn't addictive and it didn't do something for you,

(07:59):
why would you anybody do it?

Speaker 5 (08:01):
You know, it looks so good.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
I like the ones that because everybody had their own
style that lit would be sticking out so far. Yes,
because you remember the original commercials had Walt Garrison, he
said just a pinch between your chicken, gum boy.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
He took that to levels. I mean some people, I
mean it would.

Speaker 10 (08:16):
Be yeahs unret and getting real tight.

Speaker 5 (08:20):
You know, did you ever dip it all. Now, it
wasn't my thing. I tried. It didn't go well. Anybody
else dip now, it wasn't my fat that you did
for a while.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Not for a while.

Speaker 9 (08:27):
But I threw up over the side of a canoe
one time. Okay, you know if you know what I mean.

Speaker 5 (08:32):
So I'm gonna dip with my buddy today. Yeah, I always.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I've told the story about when me and dad were
fishing and I was a little kid, and I kept
hitting him up bout that Red Man. I tell you what, buddy,
you want to get you a good little jall full there.
That didn't turn out good at all.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
Red knew what was going on. Not Red Man. Red
Man ain't nothing but Pap Paul. Oh yeah, he loved
Red Man. I got.

Speaker 10 (08:52):
I got talked into it in the ninth grade picture
and it was Copenhagen put something in the mouth.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
That's the stoutus, buddy, I got.

Speaker 10 (09:00):
I was walking down that hall, I got so dizzy,
oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
And I sat down and I was like, well this
is fun.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Started off just oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
I started turning pale and everything else, and I was like,
any any of this one never went back, Any of
us four and I know we make the joke about you,
but I know you don't.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Any of the four smoke for any amount of time. No,
just a few times when you just knocking back a
few r you know, playing in the band every now
and then you gotta have one in your mouth.

Speaker 9 (09:28):
Yeah, playing drum in that bass, Playing drums with one
very difficult.

Speaker 8 (09:33):
Both hands are really tied up and you can't.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Get it out, be bouncing.

Speaker 8 (09:38):
But you look so cool you can handle it.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
I want, I want to I want to ask you
more questions because I know the next question is had
one of good ones?

Speaker 11 (09:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (09:47):
Now, honestly didn't mind a cigar.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Yeah, I guess we're gonna have to. You know, always
would h He smoked pipes all the time, and whenever
I walked in the.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
House, it'd be getting my pie.

Speaker 5 (10:04):
I didn't they say, smell good? Smells good? A pipe
was pretty intriguing.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
It was Uncle John had one, you know, for Larry
the patch man. We could all smoke black and miles
for the big gear.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
Into He's already up and texting me, Okay.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
This is the Rick Burgess Show. The man removed the
phrase what's you know good? From Society? Rick burches.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Joy to the world. The Lord is coming.

Speaker 12 (10:47):
Received very heart and have the nature scene and.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
Here we go America, a brand new our brand new show,
and the Merry Christmas to you and yours, and I
hope we have an outstanding season and maybe we can
help a little bit again today with some Christmas cash.
As the Christmas Cash countdown continues, I'll get you an
update here shortly of people who have already won, but

(11:25):
today more money is available, not just for the box seats,
but for the text nation and also for those of
you out there listening and watching all over the world.
So we have all that still coming up a little
bit later on. If you are someone that is you've
been through this. I've been through this, not thrilled and

(11:47):
it didn't have a good time with it. Still, it's
the struggle never ends. If you're someone who struggles with
their weight. Have you ever been around those people? And
for us it's bones that don't struggle with their weight,
And you're like, so you can eat anything you want
and you just stay lean. Yeah, pretty much. I watched
Bones one time eat so much food in Missouri that

(12:12):
I thought, well, there's no way he won't put weight
on you know what I mean. And and he didn't.
And that was at Lambert's, the original Lamberts in Southeast
Missouri that we had to take him out of there
in a wheelchair. And but but but for some of us,
for some of us, if we drive past, you know, donuts,
we'll put weight on. But anyway, so and then you

(12:34):
get into weight cycling, and weight cycling.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
Is really really bad for you. It's not good.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
That's when you put the weight on, you take the
weight off, all the health damage on that is so bad.

Speaker 11 (12:46):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
So you need a game plan that's actually sustainable. And
there's a lot of fad diets out there, and they
all work. The problem isn't Look, I've tried many of them.
They all work. But the problem is can you live
like that the rest of your life? And the answer
usually is no, Well, yeah, no, wonder you lost weight.
You're down to five hundred calories a day taking you know, yeah,
but you're going to live the rest of your life
eating five hundred calories a day, we'll know. So you

(13:09):
got to have something that is sustainable. And can I
point you to a natural solution that may work for you?
Takelean dot com from our friends at Brickhouse Nutrition. They're
the ones that give us Field of Greens, which is
one of my favorite favorite products that I've ever had
the pleasure of endorsing. Take it every day. Tate Lean
is more of a natural approach, you know, the GLP shots.

(13:32):
They're they're doing, you know, great things, and I hope
they turn out to be all they they seem to
be promising right now. However, for some of you, you go,
that's expensive and I just don't want another injection.

Speaker 5 (13:43):
I don't feel good about it.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Okay, Well, Tatelean dot com can help you in three
powerful ways, and that is it's going to maintain healthy
blood sugar. It's going to help control your appetite and
your cravings. It burns fat by converting it to energy,
and that's what keeps the weight off.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
It's natural.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
So go to take Lan dot com, use the code
big vox and save twenty percent. Also find that link
at Rick Burgess Show dot com under sponsors and go
and enjoy this most wonderful time of the year. And
you know, we all you know, just can say I
think I will have a little little goodie right now.
I'm just not gonna go crazy and of course, your
wife Terry's not helping.

Speaker 5 (14:22):
No, she's not, she's not. She loves to bake.

Speaker 10 (14:25):
She loves to cook, and she's gifted with being able
to do that. Really well, she sent bunch, but what
she's making in there, what she's making is not good.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
Well the holiday we got, we got fudge, we got cookies, yeah,
chocolate chip cookies and oohey gooey butter bars. Ooh we
go and.

Speaker 10 (14:48):
Uh huh I like that, oh yeah, and uh and
so she sent us. Whenever I wake up and there's
a little sticky note and says, hey, this is for
the show, I'm like, oh boy, And she has some
little containers that I brought in.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
But she's oh yeah.

Speaker 10 (15:02):
She's just she's just in there, just to making stuff.
And you know, I look at my boys. They come
through the house and they can just eat all they want.
You know, they're not fifty seven.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
No, they're not.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
They're young.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Oh yeah, I can eat this. I want to be
able to tell, you know, but just you can't.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
I know we're gonna eat bad.

Speaker 10 (15:20):
But I'm thinking, boy, so it's a week and a
half out, like maybe I need to slow it down
just a little.

Speaker 5 (15:26):
Oh yeah, I'm trying to start now, at the end
of another year.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
I think I'm gonna come on. I think I'm gonna try.
I'm doing this right now. I'm like feelings if you
don't eat it, right, yeah, so we eat? Okay, Well,
another thing too, And I think I'm holding out to
Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve, you're holding out. I mean christ well,
I know what's coming Christmas Eve. Greg, you realize how
many goodies we have on Christmas Eve? You think I can?

Speaker 5 (15:50):
I got two words. Coffee punch.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
I was about to say, you think I can drink
coffee punch and not and do that like all the
way up to Christmas? My goodness, I weigh I weigh
three hundred packs.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Again. Coffee punch is good, but buddy, it's tat it's
total calories. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Oh yeah, I mean as you're drinking it, your your
foreheads tickling. Yeah, it's good though.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
And they come got Lisa's dad n ambulance one time
he drinks my other I know, I know, true story.

Speaker 5 (16:17):
That's what he blamed.

Speaker 13 (16:19):
Right.

Speaker 8 (16:20):
Is it warm?

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Cold?

Speaker 5 (16:25):
So all right, right now, let's take cream and ice cream,
lots of that.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Let's do this right now. Okay, right now, For some reason,
nobody can explain it. It was declared with every person
you are stuck with one homemade candy. The rest of
you you only got one. Yeah, candy is it a
different category than say cake? Yeah, we're not talking about that, Okay,
I'm talking like like if you look over at the
candy table that will have a guy. I got a
battle in my head. You sweets, you're looking for her.

(16:52):
Mama's homemade fudge is over there.

Speaker 14 (16:54):
It is.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
I can remember as a child, Just smell her. She's
been there making. But then you're just gonna leave in peanut.

Speaker 5 (17:04):
That's when I was fixing those two.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Rick is those two? And I don't and don't forget
what's that people bring. It's called crack, you know that
what they call that something crank? Right, it's not really cracked.

Speaker 5 (17:15):
It's not, but it's got like cheerios in it, and
you can't quit eating.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
I'll tell you one thing. Back to Terry Wilburn. She's
got a little candy in there. It's made with looks
like some kind of cereal and.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
Oh it's like some checks h and it's got the
white powder on it.

Speaker 8 (17:30):
Right, don't they call that plot.

Speaker 10 (17:31):
I don't know, but I looked like a mess, like
I mean I was, I mean, I had just stuff,
white stuff all over my but I did.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
I got off in it.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
I did. That was like the bowl was empty and
I was like cakes, it's just all over me.

Speaker 8 (17:49):
You gotta watch out.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
That's here in mind. When you grab that fudge, that's
all you're gonna have. You're not gonna have chocol chip
cookies anymore. You you're not gonna have the peanut clusters.

Speaker 8 (17:58):
You can't cookies and can do you go in the
same thing?

Speaker 2 (18:01):
Oh sure, let me tell you what else I like?
And people bring it to the show. A lot of
it's caramel or something, but it has like frosted flakes
in it or just regular corn flakes in it.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
Yeah, that's a little. That's a good game. Yeah it
is has some good game. Yeah, we like a lot.
I can't. I can't pass fudge and not get one.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
The deal is, I'm good until I start. If I start,
all I can think about is eat the next one.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
While I'm eating the one.

Speaker 5 (18:27):
I'm eating, looking at my next one on a corner,
pigs And then.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
You always say this, this is it. Then you go
over there and you leave and then you come back
on more.

Speaker 8 (18:36):
So, what's the more powerful drugs? Sugar or nicotine? After
one second two.

Speaker 5 (18:40):
We've just sugar.

Speaker 11 (18:43):
Right.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
This is the Rick Burgess Show. It's like eating lunch
at the cool table, the Rick Burgess Show.

Speaker 5 (19:02):
We're back America.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Thank you for being with us today as we get
you ready for the Rick Burgess Show Christmas Party coming
up on Friday.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Money, money, money.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
We did it all last week, we do it again
this week, and we also add a bonus gift coming
up on Friday.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
And of course that is the that pen four hundred
eighty dollars pen the Meister stook, Yes from mont Blanc.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Yes, yeah, so that's a four and eighty dollars writing pen.
Fancy pin, fancy fancy fancy. Speaking of writing, we've been
trying to give you all the deadlines as well. Yesterday
was the last day to order from the Rick Burgess
Show store to get it by Christmas. Today is the

(19:50):
final day to order a signed copy of Men Don't
Run in the Rain if you still are wanting to
do that for a gift for Christmas, for someone or
for yourself and you want to sign copy. Went over
and signed some more yesterday. Today is the final day,
and I met over at Ironhill Press. I was signing
those with Les Bradford. Uh and then standing there was

(20:14):
a young lady named Leah, and she was like, I've
got orders standing by, got sixty something I got to
send out. Let's let's sign bird. So so we signed
some more yesterday. If you want those, today's the last day.
Can't guarantee to get you that by Christmas if you
let today go by. So the little fy on that
you can get that at the bottom of the page

(20:35):
at rick burgesshow dot com or at Themanchurch dot com.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
And Grace with the Rick Burgess Show store.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
She said, you know, this is a possibility that if
somebody ordered after the fifteenth, they could get it, But
I can't guarantee you mean you could.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Yeah you can.

Speaker 10 (20:51):
She's like, the fifteenth, we can kind of we can
guarantee how you'll get it by Christmas. You might just
be pushing it if you if you tried after. So
we've talked about this, go for it. We've talked about
this as as friends and and on the show. And
it's a little something called it might be you uh,
you know human beings struggle with coming to the conclusion.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Hey, it may be me, uh TJ. Finley, we were
just dissing. We were just discussing because now it's everybody's
talking portal and now it's portal time. Here, a portal there,
portal everywhere, portal portal.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
Yeah, and chaos we have. I can't believe TJ. Finley.
He must be forty six years He's the only person
trying to beat.

Speaker 15 (21:32):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
Pavia's record on playing the most is at about seven
or eight hisself.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
TJ.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
Finley is he older than Philip Rivers?

Speaker 2 (21:39):
I mean it's they played together one So TJ Finley
unlike Pavio, who's made it count or Pavia?

Speaker 5 (21:47):
Is it Pavia? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, he obviously I mean
made it to the finals for the Heisman.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
Yeah great.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
I mean he's a weirdo. But yeah, pretty good ball
playing and just really showing himself. Now now that he
didn't he's now don't about it to play for any more.

Speaker 8 (22:02):
Greg.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
Let me tell you one thing about class act. Yeah,
but one thing is is classy but been fun to watch.
Not the classest individual now.

Speaker 8 (22:09):
EJ. Finley's twenty three years old, all.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
Right, So TJ Finley has just announced he's going in
the portal again for the seventh time. Yeah, it looks
like seven. He's at Georgia State now. He played for LSU, Auburn,
Texas State, Western Kentucky, Georgia, Georgia State, and he was
at two lane, but he actually never took a snap

(22:31):
there because he was suspended from the team, and then
that's what ultimately got him to Georgia State, I believe.
So he originally supposed to spend the twenty twenty five
season at two lane. However, he entered the transfer portal
there when he was suspended from the program. That led
him to go to Georgia State. As I just mentioned,
so he has applied for the seventh year and it

(22:53):
was in season ending injury he sustained in the twenty
twenty four season. So he's applied for his seventh year
and entering the transfer port.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
So he's got a COVID year and an injury year.

Speaker 5 (23:04):
That's what I'm I'm assuming. Let me thought, when are
we going to go? The verdict is in, he's just
not very good. He looks great standing. It was he's
six six and one hundred yards. But guess what as
this list here will confirm he's not very good.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
And it goes back to this, he's just not very good.
I don't think all these schools did you wrong. It
may be you, Yes, I mean this is that. This
is that kid that gets in trouble with every teacher
and all the teachers are out to get him. Yeah,
bad teacher his whole career. Right, this is the I
think it's you. It's the person who's been divorced seven
times and they can't quite come to the conclusion maybe
they're the problem. Right, it's yeah, yeah, it's almost like

(23:43):
coaches look at him and go, this guy's look at him,
Oh my goodness. Well no, then he gets on the
field and maybe he has a future as a I
don't know how how lucrative is the future of a
model football uniforms? Yeah, because he looks great in the football. Yeah,
I mean he puts all of this guy's got he
puts on the unifort is there? So can you just
be that person? Like every time a team launches a

(24:04):
new uniform, TJ. Finley wears it.

Speaker 5 (24:06):
Yeah, and he gets paid for that, so he could
go even throw a few balls in practice. Right, So
this is so far.

Speaker 10 (24:15):
This is so so finley his this is his career.
He began in twenty twenty. He played for the LSU Tigers,
fresh off the national championship victory. He spent one season
before he transferred to Auburn, where he played two seasons.
Then he transferred to Texas State for the twenty twenty
three season before ending up at Western Kentucky. His most

(24:35):
productive season was in twenty three and he had some
impressive numbers there. But now he could return to college
football for the seventh season season, seventh program, overall sixth
he would actually take a snap for because he never
played for Tulane. He was supposed to, but then he transferred.

(24:56):
He said he's been the last two years. He's worked
through injuries, fatherhood.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
Uh so he's a daddy.

Speaker 5 (25:02):
Is he married or just He doesn't say it, just says,
I'm just asking. It says about that face is balancing
new fatherhood, injuries, and adversity off the field. It's been
a test. Uh I still love the game and I
want to continue. So okay, well try and do that.

Speaker 10 (25:19):
Uh arch Manning has declared he will come back for
next season. Uh so Texas that was up for.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
Discussion into one year. You know, everybody, you know how
we all do. The expectations on him were unreasonable. Yeah,
remember experience that he had and then he ended pretty
pretty well and he does. And plus frankly that with
his draft status right now, they say he didn't want
to take Bay cut.

Speaker 5 (25:41):
That's the truth. That's a fact. So he's gonna stay
at Texas because.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
Florida quarterback DJ Lagway he is entering the transfer portal.
Apparently the meeting with the new head coach did not
go well.

Speaker 5 (25:53):
Uh, and somebody told him the truth. Yeah, I got
to say that about that.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
I heard interview the when you talking about Tulane where
it's currently until he finishes, and they were when they
broke in the top twenty five, and he said, well,
if we're a top twenty five team, that just doesn't
say a lot for college football. Well, he's one of
these guys, he's yeah, he's rough on Yeah, yeah he is.
I mean instead of bragging, he said, we're not a
top twenty five yeah, no way, Yeah, that's uh wow.

(26:18):
But this one year last year yeah, uh and probably
probably the coach sounds like based on what you just said, Greg,
I think the coach may have told him, uh, here's
some things you need to work on if you're going
to play for me.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
And of course it sounds like he pouted and said
I'm leaving. Yeah, as that's failed to it does? It does?
I don't know that. It just sounds.

Speaker 10 (26:35):
It just feels like it feels a little pouty. Yeah, yeah,
it does say that the meeting did not go well.
He was called on a few things.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
Greg grd again probably Now, I mean see, nowadays, not
only can you throw in your ability to play, you
can go you're not worth what we're paying, but you're
going to need to take a pay cut.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
Yep. That's a whole other element. Yep.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
Well, you know it's it's one of those things now
where if you're trying to coach people and be honest
with him, you want to be encouraging, but you also
want to you want to challenge them. And now if
you challenge somebody too much and it hurts your little feelings,
they just leave.

Speaker 5 (27:10):
Yeah, I'm out.

Speaker 10 (27:11):
So two Lane's John who is their new head coach,
and you refer to you know it's it's from Huntsville
and you know John Ett. My niece went to school
with him, which yeah, with John Summer about that, and
and then he was you know, at Troy and at
Tulane and all that.

Speaker 5 (27:29):
But yeah, he's the guy they don't put up with
it one now. No, he was called on work you know,
your work ethic, you know, how much do you love
the game?

Speaker 14 (27:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (27:39):
I mean the results weren't great.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
I mean, I'm saying that it all falls on him,
but he was hitting high expectations for him coming into
this year.

Speaker 5 (27:47):
Yeah, so of course the coach is gone. By the way,
I love the Philip Rivers story. Back to that again.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
They're showing in on TV two, which is our ESPN
TV in here. But every time I look up and
he's just sitting there talking. Never once what I think
that's the quarterback. And I know when he's sitting there talking,
I think that's one.

Speaker 5 (28:06):
Of the coaches.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
Yeah, I'm like, is this a new head coach for Indianapolish?

Speaker 5 (28:09):
Yeah, yeah, right, he doesn't. He does remotely like you
should be.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (28:15):
I thought it was pretty cool too. I know, we
talked about he was asked about his weight and he
said he didn't know, you know, and all that. But
I thought he had a really cool statement for his
team because his team had that watch party that we
talked about yesterday and he asked him and he was
asked about you know what you know about coaching and
all that, and he said that I hope that my
players can look at me and go, well, coach ain't scared,

(28:37):
you know. And he went into talking a little bit
more about you know, just persevering through things, and I hope,
I hope that can be an example to the boys
that I coach and that are watching.

Speaker 5 (28:46):
But it was a pretty cool message.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Yeah, it's it's really inspiring for them, and it's a
real downer for people like my son who actually wanted
wanted to go to the Super Bowl this year.

Speaker 5 (28:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Yeah, they appreciate all this courageous stuff going on, but
they realized there's seasons one.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
You call the granddad up to play for you.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
The quote from my son was his team may not
be afraid, but I am every time he takes a snap.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
So so well, we'll be back man.

Speaker 5 (29:16):
More of the show coming up. Stay with us.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
This is the Rick Burchers show. He doesn't have OCD.
He just likes things to be a certain way.

Speaker 16 (29:36):
Rick Burches, you against cool outside.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Merry Christmas from all of us here at the Rick
Burgess Show, wrapping up our first year, excited about celebrating
on Friday for the Christmas Party. Money going out started
last week continuing again today, went out yesterday. I have
not given the text word yet, some of you asking
that on text Nation.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
No, we haven't.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Haven't given that word yet. We'll give that out. That'll
be an instant one dollars winter today. So that's one
way to win the box seat, to get a chance
at some Christmas cash today, as will likely the rest
of you.

Speaker 5 (30:19):
So pay attention. That will work our way through that.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
Adler was mentioning something since we were talking a little
bit of sports and kind of winding that down. As
you know, we had some of these streaming services come
in and write big checks to the NFL to get
those Christmas Day games, right, is that when they are
ad on Christmas Day and correct? And they paid lots
of money? Yes, I know, Netflix was in.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
Who else?

Speaker 9 (30:44):
Netflix and Amazon paid hundreds of millions of dollars for
these NFL Christmas Day games. You got Cowboys, Commanders, Lions,
Vikings and Broncos and Chiefs, and they're now all meaningless stinkers.

Speaker 5 (30:58):
Yes, yeah, ouch out. Uh, those doesn't exactly garner much
of a TV audi.

Speaker 10 (31:06):
Yeah, they said Dallas has a zero point zero six
percent chance because the Eagles they can't make wild card.
The Eagles would have to lose every game left and
the Cowboys would have to win every game left because
their only hope is to win that division.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
What about when they paid for it and saw they
had the Chiefs, They're like, oh, that'll be a good one.
Oh yeah, and now the Chiefs are out and don't
won't even have my homes? Right, do you get is
there any money back on that?

Speaker 5 (31:32):
Or we got any? Yeah? Probably not, and I don't
think so.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
And I was talking to Adler too, speaking of Netflix
and you know this whole streaming world, and he just
updated me it has not been approved yet. But the
eighty billion dollars they offered for Warner Brothers, eighty billion, yes,
and of course it's b it's got to be approved.
Eighty billion there.

Speaker 9 (31:57):
So Netflix wants to buy Warner Brothers, which would include
all of HBO, so HBO Max, everything that's on HBO,
Warner Brothers Studio, So you've got all of those, The Batman,
all of that content, all the Superman world that and
then so yeah, and like I said, HBO Max so

(32:18):
eighty two billion. But Paramount's like, hey, wait a second,
we wanted a piece of that pie, we'll pay even more.
So literally, Paramount came back with a competing higher bid.
Oh really, And so there's a lot of regulatory scrutiny.
A lot of people in Hollywood mad. They say, wait
a second, if Netflix buys all of these things, then
we won't have these tent pole movies that come into

(32:41):
the theaters to almost prop up the movie industry with
your Batman's and Superman's and all that.

Speaker 5 (32:46):
Yeah, my son who's in that world, he didn't like
it at all. He was upset. He was like, I
don't want Netflix buying Warner Brothers.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
And I was kind of like, of course, you know,
I was we were just eating something and getting all
I could think about was hunting, And I said, well,
what do you think about that so much?

Speaker 5 (32:59):
And and he was like just what Adler said.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
He said, I don't want a streaming service to take
over that big a bite of of you know, a
big blockbuster movie world. And I said, well, the Netflix
has some movies they that they that they produce and
put in the theater.

Speaker 5 (33:13):
He goes, yeah, but they.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
Don't leave them there very long. And he said that
that's all trying to get to the stream out. He said,
I don't want every movie to be going to streaming.
And I was like, oh, okay, Well, as as.

Speaker 9 (33:23):
Far as the I P the Internet, intellectual property, all
your trademarks, all your franchises. Uh, that would include the
entire DC universe, so Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Uh, Suicide
Squad all that. Also the all of Harry Potter, that
whole world, all of God, Godzilla and King Kong, all

(33:44):
of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, the Matrix.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
Wow, legos are some pretty big.

Speaker 8 (33:50):
All of Looney Tunes. Watch a lot of Yeah, so
a lot of names and brands and and.

Speaker 5 (34:00):
It's a biggie yeah characters, a lot a lot there.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
So, speaking of Looney Tunes, you know, they've even tried
to go back and claim that some of those cartoons
that we loved are now could considered not to be
politically correct. And this has Looney Tunes. I haven't watched
anything that's new they put out. I'm not in that
world anymore. I know they continue to use some of

(34:23):
those characters and have new cartoons. Are those Are they bland?
Did they get away from all that? I mean it's
like bugs Bunny still a smart ele I mean what yeah?

Speaker 5 (34:33):
Yeah, yeah. So is Tom and Jerry Looney Tunes?

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Is that?

Speaker 8 (34:38):
No, that's Hannah and Barbara.

Speaker 5 (34:40):
Yeah, okay, I will say that.

Speaker 3 (34:42):
Uh River.

Speaker 10 (34:43):
We went into Tom and Jerry and he he laughed
pretty already had not seen it. I'm like, buddy, these
are classic.

Speaker 8 (34:50):
Warm it is.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (34:51):
Yeah, so they all so that would also be all
the Hannah.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
Barbura whatever, so that all goes all that. Yeah, we
watched the very I'm and Jerry got a little bit
very better.

Speaker 10 (35:02):
But we watched the very first episode of Tom and
Joe really and it look like him Yeah, yes, good night.

Speaker 8 (35:11):
You watched the very first Simpson Giner like this looks
like a child Drew.

Speaker 5 (35:15):
Yes, we were watching. We just thought it was the
best thing ever. Yes, and Marin stated with us the
original Frosty Snowman cartoons. Oh, that one that hadn't been
redone yet original. I didn't realize when it comes at
the end of the credit since it was nineteen fifty one,
nineteen fifty one. I may looked at wrong, but I
think so is that the one has the magician and

(35:37):
all that. Yeah, and get the hat. Yeah, and he
puts it. He puts frost birthday. Oh yeah, you know,
like that the original Frosty.

Speaker 8 (35:48):
This says, well, Greg, this this original frost He says,
nineteen sixty nine.

Speaker 5 (35:52):
There there's a more clearer version that this, Like it
was redone. I think it's that.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
Oh you're talking about way back, So sixty nine was
even an upgrade. I think it's the same story and
the same thing. But because I saw it too, so
Jim Jimmy Duranty, Yeah, he's he was in Yeah.

Speaker 5 (36:09):
Yeah, frosts no man, Yeah yeah, got yeah. Anyway, it
was really old. Hey when he melts in that greenhouse?

Speaker 8 (36:18):
Yeah, rough, it's just it's just sitting on the ground.

Speaker 5 (36:23):
Yeah, I know that girl had a cold and they
had to get down of the north povid. Oh gracious,
that melted. Yeah. And I'm trying to remember.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
There's something there's something that's like interesting about who voiced Frosty,
And I can't remember. Somebody looks who voiced in the
rigial not not any one of the new ones, but
at Lancas. No, I remember that's a great guess, by
the way.

Speaker 5 (36:50):
But it's so but but not it. But now it's Jimmy. No, Jack,
it's the guy that's narrating it.

Speaker 10 (36:57):
Yeah, yeah, and singing it, says Jackie Vernon, the voice
actor behind the nineteen sixty nine holiday classic Frosty the Snowman.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
Okay, there were there was something. I don't know if
he was who he went on to be. He was
somebody else, was the Tiger or something. I can't remember.

Speaker 5 (37:13):
I just remember it was. It was weird. The other
stuff that he went on. Jim Jimmy Durrant, Billy.

Speaker 10 (37:21):
Jimmy Duranty, Duranty, I'm sorry, Yeah, Billy de Wolf, Paul Freeze.

Speaker 5 (37:29):
No, I don't know any of those. But Greg Thomas, Yeah,
it was it. Burl Ves No, he was the snow
Man in Rudolph John good which is another class.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Yeah, well that was the late one John Goodwe did
Goodman was Frosty the later ones. Yeah, but I don't
like when they upgrade him. I want to stay right
where it is. I mean, as bad as Rudolph the Rainbow.
I watched Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeers in Claymation. I
want to stay right bad at times, but let's watch it.

Speaker 5 (37:57):
Yeah, how about you?

Speaker 1 (37:58):
It's very good.

Speaker 3 (37:59):
How about it if you weren't scared of the Snowman?

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Oh yeah, how about they said Rudolph, the Rudolph series
and everything it started in nineteen thirty nine, that story
nineteen thirty nine. Now, the only thing that spooked me
about Rudolph was not the obomba man, the out of
the misfit toys.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
Yeah, that was where that team blew that line.

Speaker 5 (38:24):
It flew your can stay here. You must have been
the night, but you must.

Speaker 1 (38:28):
Is the Rick Burgess Show introducing radios starting light up,
Speedy Greg Burchess, ed Evan Idler and the numbers seventy

(38:53):

Speaker 5 (39:04):
Welcome to a brand new hour.

Speaker 3 (39:08):

Speaker 5 (39:10):

Speaker 2 (39:38):
So right out of the gate, let me give you
the word that you need to text today, Text Nation.

Speaker 5 (39:44):
Are you ready? Our text line stays the same, It
has not changed at all. Eight eight eight six two
four four eight six nine. That's eight eight eight, the
number six and then big vox. So anyway, here's the word.
You text this to us.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
We'll do a random drawing later in the program and
that person just randomly drawn from the thousands who text
it correctly, we'll get one hundred dollars.

Speaker 5 (40:11):
So that's that's money that that we know is gonna
be guaranteed today.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Now we've got up to you know, five hundred and
ninety nine dollars and maybe a little more. We keep
looking at different things every day. UH is available UH
for for for people, but it's not guaranteed. You got
you got to earn it. You got you got to
make it happen. So here's the word, ready, Text Nation.
You're ready, bucks, b U c K s. Don't forget

(40:35):
the S.

Speaker 5 (40:37):
And I know some of you smart elects on text Nation,
will I'll start texting it without the S.

Speaker 2 (40:41):
Oh look, I'm being za I'm texting weird words. I'm
saying he bucks b U c K S. That is
the correct text word today. You got a few bucks,
you got a few bugs and bugs.

Speaker 5 (40:58):
So so there.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
Speaking of that, And I saw this yesterday. What what
is do you do you when you see the classic
what I call intersection people? You know, they they set
themselves up near red lights. Uh, and they're gonna have
a sign that has something, and they're they're hoping that
you'll give them just some money.

Speaker 5 (41:22):
Ever, I won't even talk to you. It's so the
do you ever?

Speaker 2 (41:27):
Is there ever a prompt that you're like, I think
I'm gonna give this person little something? The intersection people
now not talking about like people you encountered. Yeah, I
forget kids really, so if they if if if I'm
pulling out right, so if I have my kids with me,
I'm gonna get something from them.

Speaker 5 (41:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
And if you got a dog when you oh, really
see if I see the animals straight, if you got
an animal out there and it looks like it's not yeah,
if I see them with the dog, I rolled my
window down and ask them for change. So I mean
it's because I figured I figure, if you can afford
the dog, then you're not that desperate.

Speaker 5 (42:00):
When we used to entirely lived in Atlanta and we'd
have to go through that busy.

Speaker 2 (42:06):
Here they come, oh yeah, yeah, well you remember we
went over for the Man Church conference last year. That
person that had that wheelchair and a very dangerous place. Yeah, listen,
sitting sitting there where the lanes merged. You shouldn't have
a wheelchair person in the mouth and that merged triangle. No,
that's dangerous. And they got them out in Atlanta. You're right,

(42:26):
but that when you stop here, they come, Yeah, I
don't know.

Speaker 9 (42:31):
I just there's just I never feel good about who
they are and what they're doing and what their motives
are and all that. And I see people sometimes there's
this one intersection I always pass and it's like they're
working in shifts. Where did you come from? I see
one person leaving and then like the new person is
sitting there.

Speaker 5 (42:50):
I'm like, yeah, got a little guy in a little system.

Speaker 8 (42:53):
Y'all have an HR department, Like, what is what is this?
Who's staffing this intersection?

Speaker 17 (42:59):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (42:59):
You go to another egg and you see the same
guy you saw earlier in the day at the new exit.

Speaker 3 (43:03):
Later in the day, and.

Speaker 5 (43:03):
You're like, that's on them. You get for the right rason.
Let me talking about when you were talking about food.
That's true, that's true, that is right.

Speaker 11 (43:11):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (43:11):
The I talked to somebody yesterday that told me that
they were trying to park at some event. And then
you know, you never know who's real parking who's not.
And he thought this person was like standing there like
they were the person in charge of the parking. And
he goes and I noticed the shoes. He said, the
shoes didn't work. He said, everything else. Look they pulled off.

(43:32):
But I looked at those shoes and I'm like, I
don't know that you're rid of the person.

Speaker 5 (43:36):
And so they were, and he said.

Speaker 2 (43:37):
Then all of a sudden he strugg walking me, and
I'm like, okay, I'm about to get rolled. Okay, he said,
he said, I actually go like a couple of blocks
and he goes, yeah, to park here, all you need
to do is is put twenty dollars on my McDonald's account.

Speaker 5 (43:49):
Like that on my what he had account?

Speaker 11 (43:53):
Like you.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
Like you can have a you know where you like
money for to idiot McDonald's And he was like, you
not really The parking guy, are you uh?

Speaker 5 (44:02):
And of course it turned out that he wasn't.

Speaker 2 (44:04):
But but you put it on my by the way
he's slipping in there acting like you're the person taking
up money for parking.

Speaker 5 (44:09):
That's pretty good. Pretty good.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
And how about the fact you're just trying to build
up some an account that McDonald's so you can eat.

Speaker 5 (44:15):
That's really good.

Speaker 2 (44:16):
I want to know what is it hurt the panhandling business.
Now that most people have cards, they don't have a
lot of cast most people, but the panhanders make it
his wife, right, the little cube. Yeah, because I saw
yesterday in that intersection you're talking about Adler, and I
noticed that one guys and I saw money coming out,
and I thought, interesting, I wonder what prompted him to say.

Speaker 5 (44:37):
Look, I think goes about what you're saying. I give
for the right reason.

Speaker 2 (44:40):
If you're if you're using this to continue to kill yourself,
and that ain't that's not really on me.

Speaker 5 (44:46):
I'm giving for the right reason. How do you when
you walk by the red kettle, they're actually ringing a baille?

Speaker 2 (44:51):
How do you keep looking at the bail It's tough,
especially if you've already donated and like you're coming back
for some reason, I have to announce him.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
I got you on the way in, you know, I
knew it.

Speaker 5 (45:03):
Or with the girls go yeah, or fake a phone
call that works, that always works, but because it got
me the guy with the bail, Yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:12):
I got hit on the food bank like that one time,
and I'd forgotten something and I came back through just
to pick up one item i'd forgotten from.

Speaker 5 (45:19):
The grocery store. All right, be there, and they hit
me in. I said, I just gave the food bank
straight up, asked her over there.

Speaker 3 (45:24):
Say this is here.

Speaker 1 (45:26):
You know he now already gave.

Speaker 5 (45:28):
I don't want to on my own.

Speaker 8 (45:30):
I have my own ways of doing it.

Speaker 5 (45:33):
I have the ones that not really but I'm very giving,
very generous. Ask anyone yes, uh so. I don't wanted,
you know, like them to be cussing me out in
their mind.

Speaker 11 (45:44):
You know.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
Sorry, I'm looking at.

Speaker 5 (45:47):
At the baill. You're gonna look over here. I'm ringing
the bell.

Speaker 8 (45:50):
H One time I lost my mind at the grocery store.

Speaker 5 (45:54):
I can't believe that.

Speaker 8 (45:59):
That not that way.

Speaker 9 (46:01):
I gave the lady seventy bucks. I gave the lady
seventy to me. She goes, will you help me me
my goal? And I was like, well, how much do
you have to go? You go seventy bucks?

Speaker 5 (46:11):
I was like, and she had.

Speaker 9 (46:14):
I had just heard her say that her son had
just passed away. To the person in front of me.
This is like a legitimate grocery store where you know
how you add it to your grass Illegitimate, I mean,
not like on the side of the road.

Speaker 8 (46:26):
And I was just like wow.

Speaker 9 (46:28):
And with that knowledge, I was like, Okay, but now
I don't I have never done that again. And I
want them to know about that one time that I
did that.

Speaker 1 (46:36):
I have to.

Speaker 5 (46:37):
I'm the seventy dollars guy.

Speaker 3 (46:38):
I remember I gave enough for a long time.

Speaker 8 (46:42):
Yeah, all year?

Speaker 5 (46:44):
Yeah, and and and we and you know, you want
to be as wise as you can be.

Speaker 2 (46:48):
And and I think you know, one of those situations
usually is and most people know to do this. That
was one obviously adler that. But when you're dealing with
what I call the potential flim flame, if you can
ever do the can I just go get you some food?
Or can I just put gas in your tank? And
if they turn you down on that, it's usually.

Speaker 5 (47:10):
Yeah, I did the gas in the tank other way. Yeah,
I said, hey I need I said, pull up, I'll
fill it up. Yeah, and if they want you he did.

Speaker 8 (47:20):
How much gas did he need to?

Speaker 5 (47:21):
About thirty something?

Speaker 2 (47:22):
Yeah, And I actually I actually had somebody take me
up on the only because we were in a place
right in front of a couple of restaurants and the
person just said, hey, I'm hungry. I said, okay, well
let's go in here and let's get you something into
their credit. They went in and stood in line, and
I said to order whatever you want and they sat down,
and as they were sitting down with the food, I said,
you know, God bless you and you know, and left

(47:43):
so so.

Speaker 5 (47:44):
That I don't mind, you know, that kind of stuff
you got.

Speaker 2 (47:46):
I saw this actually take place right and I'm providing
something that just throwing cash. You people standing standing at
intersections and like you said, Ada, I always picture like
there's some moss man somewhere. Yeah, that that sends him
out and go out there, and then he comes bound
axious cuts and then lets them have the drugs.

Speaker 8 (48:03):
They won't you know, it feels odd.

Speaker 5 (48:06):
Yeah, we'll be right back.

Speaker 1 (48:10):
This is the Rick Burgess show. Is this show really
good or are the other shows really bad? The Rick

(48:34):
Burgess Show.

Speaker 5 (48:37):

taking two? And she says, but I'm literally like, you're
a foot taller than me, You're bigger than me. I mean,
I'm like, well, it's really however, it's working.

Have a little bit of of a wake up call yesterday.

(50:03):
You know, look, bird, you're sixty one, buddy, Okay, you're
sixty one. And if you have you how often do
you go in Like there's things you got to do.
We don't do a very good job of getting our
physical so it should get one every year, right, I
get one about every three years. Oh okay, well, I'm

(50:25):
just being honest. And then you go to, you know,
do I need to I need to have, you know,
my teeth. I need to do my teeth every six months,
you know?

Speaker 5 (50:35):
And I do I do that.

Speaker 2 (50:37):
I do that about every eighteen months, yeah or anything
like that, ok being honest today, Yeah, yeah, and then uh,
well six months gets here quick, it does.

Speaker 11 (50:48):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (50:48):
And then and then wearry all eyes once a year,
once a year. Yeah, y'all do once a year straight up?

Speaker 1 (50:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (50:56):
Really, well I just had.

Speaker 10 (50:59):
Mine not too long yeah, I mean just uh and
I want to say the doctor said I didn't because they,
you know, if your pressure is good and all, everything's fine,
sometimes they'll tell you when you need to come back,
like okay, you're good, come back and excited.

Speaker 5 (51:12):
Check my prescription, make sure it's right. Yeah, that's what
just happened to me, Adam.

Speaker 9 (51:17):
What about you as a context, I wear contacts every
day and you have to get to buy new contacts.

Speaker 8 (51:24):
You have to have a new yearly contact prescription.

Speaker 5 (51:27):
Oh boy.

Speaker 9 (51:28):
So what I'll do is I'll buy, I'll you know,
get the go to the eye doctor, buy a bunch
of contacts, pay attention to that date, and literally the
day before I will go and usually buy another year's
supply of contacts. Wow, so that I can go to
the eye doctor once every two years versus every year
or nine month supply, just to stretch it out because.

Speaker 8 (51:49):
It's such a hassle.

Speaker 5 (51:50):
So you're playing the system.

Speaker 9 (51:51):
It's like, hey, I'm back, Yes, it's me. Can I
get up a box of three hundred and sixty five contacts?

Speaker 1 (51:55):
Please?

Speaker 5 (51:56):
A couple of issues here in in burge Land.

Speaker 2 (52:00):
So I went into to get my eyes Miley eye
check thing, and the firs they looked and said, you
haven't been here in four years. And I'm like, no,
well but yeah, I'm here. And so they're like, well,
let's let's take a look a couple of things. Uh,
let's let's do what you're talking about, Gray, Let's check
your prescription, and and let's and and let's just let's

(52:23):
just be honest. We don't we don't want a prescription
to change. We think that's a sign, you know, because
you know.

Speaker 5 (52:28):
You start faking it. When he was asking which one
look better?

Speaker 2 (52:31):
Right?

Speaker 5 (52:31):
Which one thing is a look better?

Speaker 14 (52:32):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (52:32):
They look great. Can you see that bottom line?

Speaker 1 (52:34):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (52:34):
Can you read it to me? Now? I just told
you I can see it. I see it. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (52:38):
And so when it ended, he gave me that look
this and the eye doctor I have is I always
love his approach. I told him that I've actually and
you might have heard this, I've actually used what he
said to me one time as an analogy of the
Holy Spirit, because what he'll do every time, he'll go, well,
I mean you can see okay, but we do you

(53:00):
like for me to show you how you could see,
and then he'll take it and move that prescription, and
all of a sudden, I see beautifully versus good and
and and I've used that analogy like it's like when
you're trying to read the Bible before the Holy Spirit,
then you get the Holy Spirit and it's like, oh wow, okay,
I understand the Bible. And when he gives you the
now here's how you could see. I mean, he's got

(53:21):
you at that point, because who doesn't want to see better?

Speaker 1 (53:24):
Right?

Speaker 5 (53:24):
And uh?

Speaker 2 (53:25):
And so I've just had my prescription, got it yesterday,
got it upgraded, and and I'm excited about how well
I can see. So yeah, you're you're wearing the new prescription.
The new prescription right now, kept the same phrames. Did
get me a backup pair I needed to do forever.
You know, honestly, Greg, you you you look. It's worse
than I thought. Actually clearly, what's the big difference? Like

(53:49):
is it distance or is it just clarity?

Speaker 5 (53:51):
In general?

Speaker 2 (53:52):
How much how much better I can see text in
my phone is alarming? Oh I was, I was really
I was struggling there a little bit on that part
part of the uh huh. You know we call them
progressors now, which means by focals. Yeah, but they don't
have the big square no, and uh and and and
this this right here, the cost streaming thing and he laughs.
I said, we set it up at the exact distance

(54:13):
where the two parts of my glasses don't know which
one to take over.

Speaker 15 (54:16):
Uh huh.

Speaker 5 (54:17):
And he said, yeah, that is an issue with with
progressive right.

Speaker 2 (54:20):
But but anyway, then they begin, I've had like a
terrible run with my eyes are dry now. I struggled
with driving and eyes now, I never really struggled with
that before. So they looked at my poors, they looked
at my pores, and they didn't like it. He goes, oh, yeah,
you know, I can't even hard to get anything out
of you know, that oil that keeps you so. So

(54:41):
now there's actually there's actually a treatment for dry that
that they've developed. Came out of the dermatology people. You
know how you find out there's things that they do
for people, and they go by the way it seems
to help with dry too, and.

Speaker 5 (54:54):
They found that out with viagra.

Speaker 2 (54:55):
Well, Greg, I know you great, how about today my
eyes are not dry? And but no gret drawing. So
so I had my first treatment yesterday.

Speaker 5 (55:08):
Treatment of D.

Speaker 2 (55:13):
Yeah, pretty expensive, it was. It was a little more
I thought, I mean wild bright lights. I was sitting
there at one time, like I was on the beach.
Oh no, they did that weird thing to my eyes. Yeah,
they were checking this bright thing. Oh yeah, yeah, scared me.
And then another thing. And I knew this was coming
because Dad had to have this done. You know, I'm
gonna have to have that thing, you know where your

(55:33):
your eyelid drops down and gets into your line of
vision because I have such tiny eyes. And I remember
when Dad had to have that done. And you remember that,
Well you got them have them pulled back. Yeah, and
they have to they have to lift them up a
little bit, thank you, Greg.

Speaker 13 (55:47):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (55:48):
But the so I you see, this is this is
why men don't like to go to these appointments, because
you come out of there with all kinds of oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (55:54):
You were fine, so you went. I went.

Speaker 3 (55:56):
I went in there, say you had dry and and
and my eyelids coming down.

Speaker 5 (56:00):
Yeah, And none of that was happening until you went
to the door. I was perfectly fine. Now that's all
you think I could see fine, I could put drops in. Yeah,
and now all I can see is that my lid's
coming down. You didn't notice it before, so they told you.

Speaker 14 (56:14):
So.

Speaker 2 (56:14):
Yeah, I'm gonna have for I'm gonna have Forrest Whittaker
if I don't do something okay, Yeah, but you know
you remember dad had and I had another buddy of
mine had to have that done.

Speaker 5 (56:23):
Oh yeah, it's pretty calm.

Speaker 14 (56:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (56:24):
And whoever, I don't know your I don't know you're
pretty open yours or not?

Speaker 2 (56:30):
Is my My eyes are not very open at all
or not? Yeah, that's it's like, that's why they keeps
thinking amazing. Yeah, nah, I get that.

Speaker 5 (56:39):
Yeah, yeah, especially when I was a kid.

Speaker 18 (56:43):
It was I was a kid.

Speaker 8 (56:46):
I want to know why when I go to dark hair.

Speaker 5 (56:48):
Brown skins when eyes sure, I.

Speaker 9 (56:52):
Want to know when I go to the eye doctor,
why they show me this chart And I'm like, I
can see that's a boat, and that's a heart, and
that's the flag, and that's an apple.

Speaker 8 (57:03):
It's the kids eye test.

Speaker 5 (57:04):
I was gonna say, where are you going to the Highland.

Speaker 8 (57:07):
I'm an adult man.

Speaker 5 (57:10):
He don't start now. Yeah, I didn't know what today.

Speaker 1 (57:17):
This is the rick Burgess Show. The Man Church Conferences
are coming two big weekends in Birmingham, Alabama and Starkville, Mississippi.

(57:37):
Tickets are going fast. Don't miss these powerful weekends in
January twenty twenty six. Get your tickets now at Themanchurch
dot com be a Man follow Jesus.

Speaker 2 (57:50):
Well, let me update you there so you know we
told you Yesterday was the final day to order out
of the.

Speaker 5 (57:56):
Rick Burgess Show store to get for Christmas.

Speaker 2 (57:59):
Today is the final day to order a signed copy
of Men Don't Run in the Rain if you want
it by Christmas.

Speaker 5 (58:05):
God I do that. Today.

Speaker 2 (58:07):
You're okay on Manchurch tickets. The only thing you might
want to consider is there will be a price increase
coming in January for remaining tickets. Right now, Birmingham has
five hundred and sixty five tickets left and no early
access tickets, and Startbell has five early access tickets that remain.

(58:29):
Well those there may be six six early access tickets
that remain an one hundred and fourteen general admission, so
that's how many are left there.

Speaker 5 (58:37):
If you want to move on those, of course, you
get a group of ten or more.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
Saves ten dollars a ticket and all of everybody is
saving by going ahead and getting them now.

Speaker 5 (58:47):
Because as of January there will be a price.

Speaker 2 (58:49):
Increase and then we do expect both of them to
sell out before we get to the actual weekend. So
if you're looking for those for gifts and they make
great gifts, go ahead and move now, save you have
some money. Some updates that are you know, a bit
of a Debbie downer, but we do need to update these.
The information continues to come out on the horrible murder

(59:11):
of Rob Reiner and his wife. The timeline is showing
now an argument with their son and that before this happened,
and you know, everybody is just I mean, it's just
such a horrible, horrible story. You know that the son
had some issues. They were very open about that and

(59:32):
like I say, even did a movie that was based
off the struggle that he went through, did that together.
And so the people who are like close to them
said that the son had begun to behave strangely again
at actually at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party, said he was

(59:52):
freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they
were famous. Said that Rob Ryan and his son got
into a very loud argument uh and and and he
and his wife left the party.

Speaker 5 (01:00:08):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
Then so that m m mmmm. They have arrested him
now he is being held. Uh and they booked him
around five of am yesterday morning.

Speaker 5 (01:00:22):
So it'll be a rain today. Yeah. So we'll we'll
follow that story. But it just sounds so so so
bad Harbor, Harborough.

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
So it looks like, you know, at least they have
a pretty good idea of who did this, and uh,
it just sounds bad.

Speaker 14 (01:00:39):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
On the Brown University shooting, they they they still do
not have the shooter. Uh, the shooter is still at large.

Speaker 11 (01:00:49):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
Some of the stories now coming out, the two Brown
University shooting victims have been id'd as college college Republican
Lee an aspiring neurosurgeon.

Speaker 3 (01:01:02):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
So that's that was Ella Cook of Birmingham and Mohammed
I can't pronounce the whole last name, so forgive me
for that of Virginia.

Speaker 5 (01:01:12):
Those were the two that were killed. Uh and so.

Speaker 2 (01:01:16):
Uh now that's we're not saying that that's the reason
they were targeting, that this one was targeted or the other.

Speaker 5 (01:01:23):
But but we'll see. But uh, the bad news is then, yeah,
the bad news is the killer is uh is on
on the lamb. They do not have them. Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
They said the Brown University offered a soft target to
the killer who opened fire during the weekend study session.
Said it was you know, there was doors that were open,
there was no security. This is according to John Kelly,
a criminal profiler and president of Stalk Incorporated. The killer
was familiar with the area and rage probably at the

(01:01:57):
college or engineering program. Uh, organized dress for the occasion.
Was very comfortable with the semi automatic weapon that they used,
but saying that the school was not secure and of
course you're not allowed to have guns.

Speaker 5 (01:02:11):
Nobody was going to shoot back. Nobody was going to
shoot back, so it was a soft target. It's weird
how they the hall there didn't have any security footage.
It's just just weird.

Speaker 2 (01:02:23):
You see who they think did it. They do have
something of him walking down the sidewalk as they do,
and he seems pretty relaxed. And some of the experts,
and I'm not one, they they're talking about how how
he's walking with his hands behind his back, and they
were talking about what what part of the world that's
prominent in and who you know, it's not very American

(01:02:46):
like now, I'm not saying he's not one. I have
no idea, but he just seems pretty relaxed. He's got
a face mask on like you did when COVID hit,
you know, and so he's kind of covered up.

Speaker 5 (01:02:57):
But hopefully somebody will come forward.

Speaker 9 (01:02:59):
And did y'all see that the home church of Ella
Cook here in Birmingham, Yeah, I did see. That is
also the home church of one of the Mountain Brook
girls that passed away in that Texas flood. Yeah, which
is so odd of a coincidence, So sad for that church.

Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
Yeah, community, Yeah, really that that congregation has been through
a lot, and those families, so remember all of the
both these families in your prayers. And then the Bondi
Beat shooting, they said these suspects also now we know,
had bombs ISIS flags and had recently traveled to the Philippines.

(01:03:40):
So so there there you go again, the father son
combo so that that did their shooting. So so they're
saying that it was against Jewish Australians. They were hunted
down in broad daylight. Fifteen people were killed, two dozen
injured in the shooting and they are now describing it

(01:04:03):
as an ISIS inspired terrorist attack.

Speaker 14 (01:04:08):
So there you go.

Speaker 9 (01:04:09):
And the hero that we mentioned yesterday on the show
that tackled the gunmen, They found some dash cam footage
that also showed that an older couple they tried to
stop the terrorists right as they were exiting their car
as well. It showed on some dash cam footage that
older couple and they were killed.

Speaker 8 (01:04:30):
In that process.

Speaker 9 (01:04:32):
There were a few Australians that tried to jump in
and be heroes and horrible, unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Again, I don't want to jump on board of things
that you just see that are being put out on
social media and videos and people circling things. So I'm
gonna I'm gonna preface this by saying, by what's being
portrayed and I cannot confirm that it really does not
look good on some of the law enforcement that didn't

(01:05:02):
seem to be as bold and courageous as the citizens
were being.

Speaker 5 (01:05:06):
And I'll just leave it at that. That's about the
one hold on to the police cruiser. Well, they they
showed a couple that instead of you know, engaging, they
were they were fleeing, and it was we.

Speaker 9 (01:05:19):
Need to get rid of all stand down orders in
these types of situations, Like I'm sorry but that's just
we we need people with guns running towards the bad
people with guns.

Speaker 5 (01:05:28):
We need that.

Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
Yeah, yeah, so uh so so anyway, we'll we'll continue
to update those, but that's kind of uh in general,
your update on all three of them. I hate that
we have three to report it on three normal incidents. Yeah,
they're not all completely related, but they're all really really bad. So,
you know, because one of them is obviously a family

(01:05:51):
who's who had a real issue with a son who
apparently had some major, major, major issues and.

Speaker 5 (01:05:59):
That ended in that one.

Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
The other two, now that's a little more you know,
trying to find the motivation on those two. One of
them in Australia they think they have the motivation, the
one at Brown still speculating.

Speaker 5 (01:06:10):
Yeah, so so we'll see. But there's there's your update,
and you know, I hate to have to give those updates,
but those are three prominent stories.

Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
Right now.

Speaker 5 (01:06:20):
We'll come back. We have much more to cover and
much lighter.

Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
Things to discuss, including your unscreen phone calls, what you
will be coming today, that's always interesting. We also have
more stories to to cover involving what's going on here
with the show as we get ready to wind down
year number one.

Speaker 5 (01:06:38):
Stake calus, We'll be right back.

Speaker 1 (01:06:41):

Thanks Ray, sharing so much?

Speaker 5 (01:07:13):
Jing she what one of fee?

Speaker 19 (01:07:20):

Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
Yeah, somebody singing, watching the ones you love, singing?

Speaker 13 (01:07:29):
Everybody, heaven so much. Everybody's singing, y'all was sitting loud fire.

Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
Side, take walking the snow speeding, Come.

Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
On taking the lot due the snow.

Speaker 5 (01:07:50):
What am I hearing out?

Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
The listening to Shielding's quiet.

Speaker 5 (01:07:56):
Singing songs of loud? Gee, the blessing week, the case
to us, Merry Christmas?

Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
Hey, congratulations yesterday Williams, Uh yeah, the Zach Williams. How
about the Williams Williams, It's all right, okay, that's all right,
buddy out there, spirit up Christmas.

Speaker 5 (01:08:20):
That's right. You know he may have done it. I
bet Kevin Derryberry could do that really well. I bet
no doubt. Listening to children.

Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
So yesterday Jared Bethune got one hundred and fifty bucks,
one and three questions.

Speaker 5 (01:08:40):
He got the first one right, and he said whoa,
I'm going to stay right there. Okay, just watch this.

Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
Look at my rump as I leave and our text
Nation Winner yesterday Hunter Forrester.

Speaker 5 (01:08:49):
Yeah, and he's it. He's out right.

Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
So there he is. So congratulations, we've already given the
word for today. We are giving the word for today.
Uh and if you you if you missed it, if
you missed it, I will tell.

Speaker 5 (01:09:04):
You where not to get it.

Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Don't get it out of the chat room on Tube City.
They'll mess with you. But you know, ask a friend
you can trust. A couple of things that we uh,
that we need to talk about too. And again this
is not not overly upbeat again, but it's still perplexing.
Well this this dollar generals st story, oh man, dollar General,

(01:09:31):
dollar tree. Let's clear dollars, a dollar tree, dollar tree.
Let's clear dollar gen Let's do not associate dollar General
with this. Okay, it's the competitor dollar tree. Yeah, which
I don't know the difference, but it seems like dollar
General has more stuff than dollar tree.

Speaker 1 (01:09:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
Yeah, it's a dollar trees where everything costs a dollar.
Probably that dollar General is not that? Why's the word
dollar in there?

Speaker 5 (01:09:57):
Just cheap? Let me hold a dollar. Huhm m.

Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
So dollar tree is this one, which I'm not as
familiar with. We have a dollar tree near my home.
Everything's a dollar I think it's I think with inflation
dollar thirty. But it seems that dollar general is dominating.

Speaker 5 (01:10:14):
Oh, dollar general everywhere? Yeah, everywhere.

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
And is there something called dollar store or is it
just dollar general and dollar tree something?

Speaker 5 (01:10:23):
Yeah, there's a family family dollar.

Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
They may hold a Yeah, they will combo family dollar
with dollar store in the same building dollar store, dollar general,
dollar store.

Speaker 5 (01:10:35):
So there is a dollar store. Yes, there's a dollar tree.
A dollar store tis dollar tree and family dollars, dollar
tree and general dollars. So dollar dollar, General, dollar tree,
and family dollar the combo. Is there anything called general dollar?
It's dollar general, but here it says general dollar, which

(01:10:58):
I obviously has got it. Maybe that's the difference. Okay,
So Rick's got.

Speaker 9 (01:11:03):
Dollar tree stuck to one dollar items, but now that
is mostly dollar twenty five and some some items go
up to ten dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
Dollar tree, dollar dollar, the dollar tree. There's I know
two locations where the combo. Okay, Greg, we got it.

Speaker 5 (01:11:20):
Then here we got to general. Here we go this DG.

Speaker 1 (01:11:23):
You got Dollar General.

Speaker 5 (01:11:24):
Then you got DG Market.

Speaker 2 (01:11:25):
Yeah, R Market's got that's that's that's what that's showing
at a little bit. Well that's for those of the
got money.

Speaker 5 (01:11:31):
Well that's what I'm yeah right, so nice in there.
And of course I'm starting a new chain called let
Me Hold a Dollar. All right, So anyway back to
what's but the story.

Speaker 8 (01:11:40):
Is horrible, horrible story, horrible.

Speaker 5 (01:11:43):
No matter what it's called.

Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
There was a there's a female doctor that went mysteriously missing,
and they they the last thing they saw her do
was go in a Dollar Tree and they found her
in the freezer. Dollar Tree got a freezer. I didn't
know Dollar Tree store had and in Miami. While I'm
thinking it's Dollar General and.

Speaker 5 (01:12:02):
Anyboddy, it says dollar Miami, Florida. Inside the walk in freezer.
Uh and and when they discovered her, uh she the
body had no clothing on it. Okay, come in freezing
nicked all right.

Speaker 10 (01:12:18):
So you know how you know how they have you
know how they have the freezer area behind where you know,
will you open and close the door like that, Yeah,
back in like the store's stock room, but it's still
cold back in there.

Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
That's where she was naked, Yeah, you want more clothes on.
I don't think they're suggesting that she sounds like foul play.
So somebody attacked her.

Speaker 5 (01:12:41):
In the dollar was in the cooler of the store.
That's just there's a lot of questions they'd answered here.
They still looking at the footage.

Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
They said, surveillance footage indicates no foul play that they
can find.

Speaker 5 (01:12:53):
That's what I'm saying. It's like she went in there
and got nicked and just died or something. She was
an astesology specializing and uh, heart disease. That's that's just odd, j'all.

Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
I know that is I don't This is one of
those mysterious things you just kind of she's originally it
looks like her family is. How do you end up
from a nicked Do you get so many in there?

Speaker 5 (01:13:23):
I mean guys, cause, I mean, I guess nothing I
guess is obvious as cause of death. They just so
we're gonna have to figure out, actually what that is.

Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
Is here's where you come into investigate. You're like, you
came in to the dollar tree, at what point? What
happened that the end result is passed away in the
freezer naked?

Speaker 5 (01:13:46):
I mean, what boy, there's that. That missing piece of
information is crucial. It is right, Okay, the this is
family dollars.

Speaker 9 (01:13:56):
Some of the weird things that happen when you are
going under high post ermia, you can actually think that.

Speaker 5 (01:14:02):
You are Okay, Well, was she locked in there? She
somehow went in there and got accidentally locked.

Speaker 9 (01:14:08):
Maybe accidentally locked, maybe out of her mind and accent
walked in. But then she's in there and she's confused,
and then the hypothermia kicks in.

Speaker 8 (01:14:15):
She thinks she's hot.

Speaker 5 (01:14:18):
She was just trying to find somebody to help her.
You can't ever find anybody in there to help her. Okay,
go back there, going hello here, Yeah, where's the mill? Yeah?
But would you walk into the freezer trying to check
out up here? Yeah? Now you I can see myself
going there for the BATHROOMO.

Speaker 11 (01:14:34):
I know.

Speaker 5 (01:14:34):
I just hate places to have key the bathroom keys
to the bathrooms were the worst things ever. I refuse
to use it. Right, this is emergency.

Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
Yeah, well you got to walk around your situation you
were in. Yeah, now you get a key. Oh I'm
running in place? Yeah yeah, I can't get got time
for a key. So somebody died, So back to this. Yeah,
so I think what we're going to discover at it.
I think we're going to get down to the I
don't have any clothing on. I think we're going to

(01:15:03):
get down to what you're talking about. Likely the big
mystery is what is she doing in the freezer? Did
she walk in there? Like y'all saying, can't find nobody
to help? Think they might be in the freezer? Freezer clothes,
freezer closes on her.

Speaker 5 (01:15:14):
But wasn't they? I said that though if she was
closed up in well maybe I don't know. I don't
know what. It's a strange one. Boy. It's the employee
that found her too. It's just you walk in the
walking freezer.

Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
Yeah, I know that's tough now. Yeah, so so anyway,
that's uh, the how would you be in the freezer?
A dollar General?

Speaker 17 (01:15:36):
Dollar?

Speaker 3 (01:15:37):
You cannot doll.

Speaker 5 (01:15:40):
Dollar General into this. They don't have anything that was
in my mind, can't picture of the dollar tree with
a freezer. I agree with you on that.

Speaker 2 (01:15:47):
I'm not saying, but I have a feeling that you
can probably scream maybe and holler somebody would come.

Speaker 5 (01:15:53):
Why would you be in there?

Speaker 8 (01:15:57):
She didn't buy anything. She went to the freezer in
the back storage room and then she was found this morning.

Speaker 5 (01:16:03):
Wow, how about I'm with y'all. Oh, the Dollar Trees
that I've been in, I can't picture it having a freezer.
Maybe they have a different version of it. Maybe they
not at the Dollar Tree apparently so making so around here.

Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
If you go on the dollar she was found, you
got to buy like some little stickers and stuff that's
really cheap and.

Speaker 5 (01:16:23):
It's not good. I didn't know this was his area.

Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
And you think it's sharp. Oh yeah, you opened this
dollar the world. Bring up DG in a second, I
got let me tell you.

Speaker 9 (01:16:32):
It's says investigators have ruled out foul plays, like she
just went in there and laid down naked.

Speaker 8 (01:16:38):
Not they don't suspect foul play.

Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
They ruled it out.

Speaker 5 (01:16:42):
Kind of just thought. They said that surveillance camera doesn't
know that.

Speaker 2 (01:16:46):
They're going as far as saying we we've completed the investigation.

Speaker 3 (01:16:51):
I think they're the right store.

Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
Grave.

Speaker 15 (01:16:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:16:53):
I'm confused, but I just can't see the dollar trade
with a freezer. I said they have them.

Speaker 3 (01:17:00):
Honestly, that happened, that's where they found.

Speaker 1 (01:17:03):
Is the Rick Burgess Show America are you ready for
more of the Rick Burgess Show?

Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
And the answer I hope is yeah, well yeah, bringing
out thanks for being with us today.

Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
Merry Christmas from Speedy and Greg Handler and uh and
me oh Berg, I hope you're having a great season.

Speaker 3 (01:17:40):
Hope us not. Don't get into all the stress of it.

Speaker 5 (01:17:42):
You know, it's hard not to.

Speaker 20 (01:17:44):
It's a joint.

Speaker 19 (01:17:46):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:17:46):
So we started, okay, you guys text nation, We got it,
everybody all over the country letting us know where their
Dollar show has a freezer.

Speaker 5 (01:17:54):
Okay, so thanks Greg, we got like, what of meat
for sale for a dollar? I don't think so. No,
you're right, that's where Adler said some of the stuffs
up to ten dollars.

Speaker 14 (01:18:02):
Now.

Speaker 5 (01:18:02):
Yeah, And by the way, Greg, you are to.

Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
Be ashamed of the dollar tree in linlock Over in
Calhoun County as a freezer.

Speaker 5 (01:18:08):
Does it? Really? That's what this texture saying. You know,
if the texture say it. I'm all in so many
states are saying to me the tree you got like
envelopes and old generic cards and stickers, and you mean
it don't last long? You mean envelopes? Yeah, that you say,
you say envelope, envelope? Is that what you say. I
guess so, huh, I don't. I don't have to use
that a lot and envelop Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:18:30):
Whatever, he's gonna have to walk in a dollar tree
and see the freeze. I'm gonna have to because because
all these texts of all these people said, theirs has
got it.

Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
Well, this refrigerated sausage for a dollar, got ice cream
in it, they got Jimmy Dean?

Speaker 5 (01:18:46):
Is this be something recent? Rid by steaks for a dollar?
I'm just kidding. So there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
Oh my, Well, since y'all know so much why the
naked lady lay in it, then figure that out. Okay, Greg,
I don't know that you'll know everything. Well, I don't
know that you know how they got him. We got
That's the bigger, the bigger point. It is no doubt
about the Miami Detectives, no doubt about that, no matter
what dollar it was, you, Greg well said, Uh, speaking

(01:19:16):
of of restaurants. Uh, The headline is McDonald's CEO delivers
blunt career advice that may hurt your feelings. Well, god
forbid that anybody's feelings get hurt, uh, especially if you're
going to tell them the truth. A little tough love
from McDonald's ceo.

Speaker 5 (01:19:36):
Uh, that's the McDonald's CEO right there, I guess so
and then and this is the against him. No, it's
young man. He does he does, Greg, I'll give you
that must with them over achievers.

Speaker 2 (01:19:47):
Look looks looks a little bit just a just a
hair like the assistant on on thirty Rock. But anyway,
so but but here we go Instagram video to all
those out there, uh who are waiting uh for their
career to move forward.

Speaker 5 (01:20:07):
So here here we go.

Speaker 15 (01:20:08):
The advice I would give is, remember, nobody cares about
your career as much as you do. So this idea
that there's somebody out there who's looking out for you,
who's going to make sure that you get that opportunity,
who put you in the right thing, great if it happens.
But at the end of the day, nobody cares more
about your career than you do. So you've got to
own it. You've got to make things happen for yourself.

Speaker 5 (01:20:29):
That's that's hurt somebody's feelings, surely not. What is that?

Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
Well, it does fly in the face of equity, doesn't
in Adler, what in the world were true? You know
that I just should be given what I want. The
only thing I was offended buy is that top button.

Speaker 5 (01:20:44):
I saw that.

Speaker 2 (01:20:44):
I couldn't believe it to you. This made me uncomfortable.
I was kind of surprised his ears got to pass.

Speaker 5 (01:20:49):
Yeah, board line.

Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
But but anyway, yeah, I guess you know because this
thing that i'm you were really not owed anything. M
and just because someone else has been successful, and I
have no idea how they became successful. I don't assume
it was just given to them. So now now somebody
should give it to me. If you're doing well, I
should do well.

Speaker 5 (01:21:11):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
Do you know how we ended up doing well and
what it took. No, I just want I want to
have the exact same life you have. Yeah, okay, well
don't really work that way.

Speaker 5 (01:21:19):
Yeah, well, it's it goes back to what you probably
always told your kids.

Speaker 10 (01:21:22):
I know I told mine, and it's simple. But it's
nobody cares more about you than you. I mean, they
can trade as much as they try, nobody cares more
about you than you. So so I so handle your business. Well,
we tell people like own it and that asked about
advice and the business we're in. And you know, we
found this out in a very harsh way and another validation, Uh,

(01:21:43):
you better market yourself and you better be willing to
to else. Don't don't wait around on other people to
to tell people about what you do. You better tell
them you know it so and uh and and be
able to do you know, do just whatever it takes.
You got to come, you got to come here, ready
to go and and so. Yeah, so I'm glad to

(01:22:06):
hear that.

Speaker 5 (01:22:08):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
It wouldn't. It's like everything else you hear. Now you
hear something that at one time in our lives was
so elementary. I mean, what this guy just said. That's
not some deep, profound comment, but it's actually become where
things like this are presented as deep and profound and
even confrontational or provocative, because it's.

Speaker 5 (01:22:29):
Not common anymore. I mean, there are some people that
just heard that one. Oh well, how about that? Oh wow,
that's some wisdom.

Speaker 2 (01:22:36):
You mean that I shouldn't sit around waiting on somebody
else to make my career happen for me. I already
be out there getting after it because no one cares
about what I want to do more than I do,
is there? That's that's pretty elementary, but sadly probably being
heard by some for the first time, especially when we

(01:22:57):
come in and rescue everybody all the time. And so
let me can happen for you. Well, we're all blessed
to have the upbringing we had, and there's a lot
of people out there that don't have that, and they've
never heard that, sadly, so like you're saying, maybe.

Speaker 5 (01:23:11):
It touched someone. Okay, So so Speedy think it's common sense,
but you never know you no, no, we remember we.

Speaker 2 (01:23:17):
Said this a thousand times. We have to we have
to drop the word common from common sense. Yeah, it's
uncommon sense. Yeah, so Speedy was just talking in granddad world,
because now Greg and Speedy are granddad's and so they
now get to look at the generation of children and
speaking of something being elementary, you thought something was your standard.

Speaker 5 (01:23:38):
Yeah, what happened?

Speaker 10 (01:23:39):
It's just kind of gone away change And I'm talking
about you know coins you know, it's you don't see
as much of that, you know, And then you got
the whole penny drama Ronald McDonald And I'll say, you know,
folding money, you don't care a lot of that anymore.

Speaker 3 (01:23:56):
You saw a debit card or this, that and that.

Speaker 10 (01:23:58):
I never carry ca Well, we went out to eat
as a family, and I'm talking about it was it
was a slew of us. We had this big, old
long table of Wilburn's and we're all there, we're eating,
and River, our five year old grandson, he just he
just wasn't eating. And I think it's because we got
uncles there, we got excitement, we got other things going on.

Speaker 5 (01:24:16):
I'm not helping at all, and uh. And Tyler's like, hey, River,
eat man, and uh And.

Speaker 10 (01:24:23):
I whispered over to him and I'm like, hey, give
you a quarter if you'll eat, if you'll, if you'll,
if you'll make a happy if you'll make a happy
plate quarter coming to you. He's like, he looked at me, like,
are you kidding?

Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
You just took grandparent to a place I never thought.
I've seen Greg do things I never thought you just
to offer to give somebody money, I know, And it
wasn't you know, for all of us it was that
wasn't a big step out. But to him at five,
he's like, you kidding me? And then probably not the
best tactic, you know, he just needs to mind his dad.
But being a grandparents do whatever you want to do.

(01:24:54):
Who cares who uh, And so he tore that food up. Buddy,
he couldn't get enough.

Speaker 10 (01:25:01):
And so after it's over, I go back out because
you know, you don't have change in your pocket anymore,
so you have to go to the truck and get it.
And so anyway, for by the time I gave him
a quarter, and uncles gave him quarters and all this,
he had.

Speaker 3 (01:25:11):
A dollar worth a quarters.

Speaker 5 (01:25:12):
Wow. I said, uh, hey, go put that in your
piggy bank in your room. And he looked at me,
like do you.

Speaker 2 (01:25:18):
Whatn't I And I looked at Tyler and Maybraw. I'm like, hey,
does he have a piggy bank? And they was like no,
And I'm like, what kid doesn't have.

Speaker 5 (01:25:26):
A piggy bank. But then I started thinking, well, it's
a different world. We don't have no people don't have
change or whatever. He said, why I'm changing that.

Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
I remember having a piggy bank when I was growing up,
and I'd always put money in there, and even when
I would go back to to you know, home after
college or whatever, that piggy bank would still be full.
I never really got off in it, but I'd always
put money in the piggy bank. Are piggy banks, now,
just something you don't have.

Speaker 5 (01:25:52):
Well they have, I don't know they do all of them.

Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
But Pace has this incredible hault and he's a piggy bank.
He has a piggy Mary Hollis.

Speaker 5 (01:26:02):
Makes me dump all the change out so she can
put it back in. Huh.

Speaker 2 (01:26:05):
So I have to dump take the cap off the bottom,
dump it out to put it back in. And she
wants a whole lot of time. So it's a hallkey bank,
notiggy It's cut off right here. And he says, flat,
do you remember the silver one? We he oh yeah, Greg,
and I had a silver piggy bank. Really it was
a silver piller pig huh that we do even have?

Speaker 3 (01:26:24):
I mean, you know now?

Speaker 10 (01:26:25):
And I started talking about let me guess you don't
have a cookie jaar either? Remember the cookie jaw you
just take then the cookie. I mean, it's just I guess,
I don't know, it's just a different time. But but
the piggy banks, I'm hearing after talking to a number
of people, they're like, well, no, we don't your kids
have piggy banks.

Speaker 9 (01:26:41):
Ruby has a piggy bank and it is a pink
pigs not yet because I think he would eat the quarters.

Speaker 5 (01:26:49):
Okay, yeah, yeah, that's that's why you don't want to
do that. We're gonna change somebody still got one at
thirty seven years old.

Speaker 3 (01:26:54):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 9 (01:26:56):
I do a sticker charge. I think I've told you
all about this. Yeah yeah, yeah, like do some good
clean your room, get a sticker. You get ten stickers.
We'll go to the toy store. And I'm just trying
to yeah, banking it banking out right now, we're just
banking stickers. But I do need to probably explain quarters
and dollars and cents to Ruby.

Speaker 5 (01:27:11):
Really do you think are there? Is it gonna be
a big deal for them when they ever really deal with.

Speaker 9 (01:27:15):
It, unless you're going up to a vending machine trying
to get some bubble gum or something.

Speaker 8 (01:27:19):
Right at the Mexican restaurant, they still got them for
some reason. They're they're still there.

Speaker 5 (01:27:23):
Yeah, yeah, wow.

Speaker 10 (01:27:26):
And I don't know why even had change in my truck,
but I did, and that his uncles did too. And
so we're getting them a piggy bank. He's going to
get a piggy bank. You got to have a piggy bank.

Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
Sure, they got all kinds of yea, I didn't realize
you could do it. I'm glad to hear that your
grandson still respond to a quarter, right, Yeah, sometimes the
little kids, they've got a pretty good understanding that quarter
ain't nothing. Yeah, and we could talk right, Yeah, I
need four of those, even get a drink, Yeah, he'll
he'll learn quick pox.

Speaker 10 (01:27:55):
You can't even get them for a dollar though. What
you can get a dollar anymore? Maybe go to the
dollar tree with Greg, find something something.

Speaker 1 (01:28:04):
This is the Rick Burgess Show. Only in America. Could

(01:28:25):
these four men do this for a living God bless America.
This is the Rick Burgers Show.

Speaker 11 (01:28:37):
We go.

Speaker 14 (01:28:38):
The toper rump pump.

Speaker 11 (01:28:43):
So we.

Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
Are having a blast on another day to day only
you know about three and a half shows remain in
the first year of the Rick Burgess Show. You can
you can enjoy opportunities to win reflecting on the year.
All that continues all the way through the Christmas party
coming up on Friday. Vox seats will be here shortly

(01:29:07):
and uh they'll have an opportunity at Christmas Cash. Today
we've given the word for the text nation, okay, uh,
and you can if you have that word, go ahead
and text it. That'll give you an opportunity for you
to to win some money as well.

Speaker 5 (01:29:23):
Uh, so look to that.

Speaker 2 (01:29:25):
Uh and then of course, uh there may be other
opportunities today for you to win money also.

Speaker 6 (01:29:32):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:29:33):
Diego Pavia.

Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
H now the Athletic director for Vandy, has released a
statement following the very classy Diego Pavia's f bomb to
all voters who did not vote for him for the
Heisman Chili.

Speaker 5 (01:29:54):
Uh and he is so now the the Vandy AD.

Speaker 2 (01:30:00):
He said, the behavior of Diego Pavia is unacceptable. That
is not what we're looking for from our university. You know,
he's dangerous now because always got left as a bowl game.

Speaker 5 (01:30:15):
Now and so.

Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
The Athletic Director Candicely says, he knows that his actions
were unacceptable and he has apologized. I know he is
contrite and regrets the hurt he caused. He is a passionate,
authentic competitor, and while his authenticity has been nurtured and
celebrated here, it does not change the responsibility that comes
with representing Vanderbilt University. We believe in growth and account

(01:30:44):
of building, and we continue to support Diego as he
learns from this moment.

Speaker 5 (01:30:50):
He then put out on X.

Speaker 2 (01:30:52):
I didn't handle these emotions well and it did not
represent my way myself the way I wanted. I have
much love and respect for the Heisman voters and the
selection process. Now I apologize for being disrespectful. I made
a mistake and I am sorry, and anyone who does
not accept my apology can kiss my No. So there's

(01:31:16):
the Diego Pavier thing. Now, that was not a very
tough call on his part on whether to do that
or not.

Speaker 5 (01:31:23):
No, Oh, I'm sorry, I was No. Yeah, I mean
that was pretty easy. Yeah, this is inappropriate, right? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:31:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:31:31):
Do y'all think that he has a future in the NFL. No,
I understand that there's been some.

Speaker 2 (01:31:43):
Back and forth that that he is taking some heat
on the internet because he's claiming he's taller than he
really is.

Speaker 5 (01:31:52):
Have you have you been following this one?

Speaker 17 (01:31:54):
No?

Speaker 5 (01:31:54):
And I know this is a little close to Friday,
so I know about fall. I don't. I don't. I
don't want to go to any road here, but just.

Speaker 8 (01:32:02):
You can check my shoes anytime.

Speaker 5 (01:32:04):
Right. Let me tell you something you are I will
get you are a stickler. Yes, I will say this
about one Chris Adler. He does not like when people
try to pretend to be taller than they are.

Speaker 8 (01:32:15):
Now, just be who you are, right, except who you are?

Speaker 5 (01:32:18):
Yeah he is.

Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
He's listed at six foot on Vanderbilt's website, but when
standing next to the other finalists, A one who was
six foot one, he didn't seem to be anywhere anywhere
near the six foot one guy. And if you're six foot,
it ought have been right there with him. Should have
only been about an inch difference. So people have started

(01:32:41):
saying that, and people are posting all kinds of things
saying that his claim of six foot. Oh I bet
that's got him cranked. Oh so, I can't believe he
hasn't said anything about that. So they're saying the guy
to the right or to his left, yeah, is to
one because meninde, what's his name.

Speaker 5 (01:33:03):
Is real? That is Mendoza. Mendoza. Yeah, he's so they're
talking about. Say, they're talking to his left saying, you know,
the young quarterback for Ohio State. Yeah, so he's listed
at six to one. Pavier's listed at six foot.

Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
That looks more like that looks like about five nine
and a half to me, Yeah, I'm here, he's I mean,
did I disagree? I think he's five nine and a half.
I think he's maybe right at five ten, like three
five nine and three quarters something like that. Back to
what you're saying, Rick, I'm at vu commanders dot com,
Vanderbilt's official football website, and looked at the roster here

(01:33:42):
and he has listed as six foot two hundred and
seven pounds.

Speaker 5 (01:33:46):
So that has to be with Clayton all right.

Speaker 2 (01:33:50):
According to Ryan Roberts of ah to Z pairs of socks,
Pavier's official measurements came from spring and it had him
listed at five nine and three quarters.

Speaker 5 (01:34:02):
Ryan McGee noted in August.

Speaker 2 (01:34:04):
That most everyone lists him at five to ten, but
when a five to ten sports writer looks him in
the eye, he might be five to nine. I think
his real weight is somewhere between five nine and five ten.
It's hot five nine, five ten, which is not I mean.
And whatever he's saying about this, he can play, he
can pay.

Speaker 5 (01:34:21):
Who cares.

Speaker 18 (01:34:23):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:34:23):
Yeah, I don't think if you're if you're kind of
you know, talking about a quarterback, if you're five to
ten to six foot, I mean, that's all about the same.

Speaker 5 (01:34:34):
It ain't like a lot of his balls get slapped
down now and I don't know, he knows how to move.

Speaker 10 (01:34:39):
And if it's not the NFL, he obviously has a
future doing something UFL or somewhere yeh, because he can
he can play, but he just sometimes can't get out
of his own way.

Speaker 2 (01:34:51):
Well yeah, well yeah, he's uh, he's I wouldn't He's
not Johnny Manziel, but I can feel a little Manzil
in him.

Speaker 5 (01:34:59):
Yeah you just got that touch. Yeah yeah, right now.

Speaker 2 (01:35:03):
Manziel makes him look look look like he's extremely disciplined
and well behaved. Sure, but you think it's still early
because you know, you can see him leaving the college
world and if he gets thrown into that pro football world,
and like I said, I don't think. I just can't
imagine him being able to deal. The problem that all
people run into when they go to the NFL is

(01:35:25):
that you go, well, I'm quick, and you know what
the NFL says, and so is everybody here. I'm shifty,
so is everybody here? Hey, I'm I'm I'm heady. So
is everybody here?

Speaker 3 (01:35:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:35:37):
You know, yeah, I know I know the game, So
is everybody here? The best are here?

Speaker 8 (01:35:43):
Yeah, I'm an uncommon man. Amongst uncommon people. So is everybody.

Speaker 5 (01:35:48):
Yeah, we'll be right back here.

Speaker 1 (01:35:52):
This is the Rick Burgess Show. It's time for the
most dangerous ten minutes in wadio. Unscreened phone calls. Call No.
Two five five three zero one thousand and get on
the show.

Speaker 5 (01:36:12):
Here we go, new number till we end the year
that we'll come back and go back to the old number.
But we need this new number.

Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
Because of the power of you, the audience. The two
five five three zero one thousand. So unscreen phone calls,
meaning if you hear it ring right now, you're in
line on the ten lines, ready to go. And we
make these decisions in real time. And so no call screener.
Nothing between you and us but airwaves and opportunity, a

(01:36:40):
great opportunity for you to get some funny or interesting
conversation going. And I know some of you take this
huge responsibility and squander it by simply saying doo doo.
But if maybe we could do more with it, that'd
be great. But it is available, uh, and it's ready

(01:37:01):
to go as the lines feel. Uh. So let's get started. Hello,
this is the Rick Burgess Show. You're on unscreened phone.

Speaker 8 (01:37:08):
Calls, Go ahead, show me the money.

Speaker 5 (01:37:15):
Okay, the money's gonna happen today.

Speaker 2 (01:37:18):
Hopefully you've already text, because that could get you in
line for money right there now if you miss the
word today now, I can't. I can't help that. We continue,
Rick Burgess Show, unscreen phone calls.

Speaker 21 (01:37:31):
Go ahead, Yes, good morning, guys, and the Merry Christmas.
I would just like to give a shout out to
my son who is turning twelve today.

Speaker 5 (01:37:41):
What's his name?

Speaker 22 (01:37:42):
His name is Eli. He's our baby boy and heart.

Speaker 5 (01:37:48):
Well I've got twelve.

Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
Look, you still got time for him to be around
mom a little bit longer, so I know, but I understand.
But I'm telling you twelves when it starts, I shouldn't
say that. You don't do that quick.

Speaker 5 (01:38:00):
I mean, for you know it.

Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
They go from twelve to twenty two like that. Oh
so well, Happy birthday, Eli, and Merry Christmas to your
whole family.

Speaker 5 (01:38:08):
We continue, unscreen phone calls. You're on the Rick Burgess Show.
Go ahead, rest and pace. All the Hardies in the
West Georgia area, really all the Hardy's are gone. All
the Hardys are going, and nothing got them all here too.
No Carl's Junior no, nothing, nope. Are you said? What

(01:38:29):
what item will you miss the most? Probably the biscuits?

Speaker 2 (01:38:33):
Oh yeah, Now, look they had the best breakfast biscuit.
I remember when we had Hardy's growing up. That that's
steak biscuit.

Speaker 5 (01:38:42):
You got it warm. It was a winner. We continue,
Rick Burgess Show, unscreen phone calls.

Speaker 6 (01:38:48):
Go ahead, Papa, what's a piggy bank?

Speaker 5 (01:38:53):
I couldn't mopa, what's a piggy bank?

Speaker 2 (01:38:55):
Is that what you said? Okay, I couldn't. I couldn't understand.
Rick Burgess Show, unscreen phone calls, Go ahead.

Speaker 5 (01:39:01):
Hey, this is Josh from Birmingham.

Speaker 18 (01:39:03):
I just want to give a shout out to my
wife and tell you guys that I appreciate all y'all
do and love listening to you.

Speaker 5 (01:39:10):
Guys. We've been looking to you for twenty years. What's
your watch name? Mary Wildman? There we go.

Speaker 2 (01:39:16):
Okay, Well, thank you man. That's very kind of you.
We continue Rick Burgers Show on screen phone calls.

Speaker 18 (01:39:21):
Go ahead, Yeah, Rick, I was watching Else the other
day and I thought the same thing that you said
last week. I just couldn't believe that the angry Else
was trying to hide the best story from the little kids.

Speaker 2 (01:39:35):
I know, And it seems it's clear he was trying
to hide it because the very thing he told them
they shouldn't do he had planned to do. And I
guess I'm understanding it more Rick Burgers show unscreen phone calls.

Speaker 6 (01:39:49):
Go ahead, Oh, good morning, Richard. About it today?

Speaker 13 (01:40:00):
It is so cold?

Speaker 5 (01:40:01):
How's Alabama today? Little chili?

Speaker 3 (01:40:04):
Huh, it is so cold?

Speaker 6 (01:40:06):
My little bony fingers all crinkled up.

Speaker 1 (01:40:08):
Owned up.

Speaker 6 (01:40:11):
Well, listen, I wanted to maybe invite you all to
the mansion and we'll have some cookies and some milk,
and I just reach our little tours the night before
Christmas and we just might have a good whole time.

Speaker 5 (01:40:22):
Oh that would be wonderful. Maybe maybe a little hot.

Speaker 6 (01:40:24):
Chocolate you think, Yeah, absolutely, and a few attitudes.

Speaker 5 (01:40:32):
The little Granddaddy's call.

Speaker 6 (01:40:35):
Well, hey, you said it, not me, listen. I'm on
a tap schedule. But I wanted to say Merry Christmas
and happened New Year, and I'm so proud of you
with the new show, and I just wanted to remind

christ the Lord.

Speaker 2 (01:40:55):
Oh well, thank you, miss Kay. You are absolutely right

Speaker 17 (01:41:32):

Speaker 2 (01:41:37):
Thank you very much. That explains the low energy. Rick
Burgess Show, unscreen phone calls go ahead, Thank you, sir.
Good to hear from Diego Pavia.

Speaker 5 (01:41:54):
Yes, yeah, goodness man. We continue. Rick Burgess Show, unscreen
phone calls.

Speaker 18 (01:41:59):

Speaker 5 (01:42:05):
Hey, coming up?

Speaker 2 (01:42:06):
Could happen at any moment, Rick burd You Show, unscreen
phone calls, go ahead.

Speaker 22 (01:42:11):
Hey guys, So I played a little ball back in
my day, back in the early ball a little ball,
little ball I played at Pensons under the great Wayne Lee. Yes,
that is the only man that I have ever seen
that can fit an entire can of Copenhagen in his
bottom lip. I'm talking one side to the other.

Speaker 8 (01:42:30):
The whole can at.

Speaker 5 (01:42:32):
One by absolutely Wayne. Yeah he if he's still dipping
or not. Yep, Greg and I played played ball with
Wayne Lee Yeah uh and uh he ain't like that can.

Speaker 2 (01:42:44):
Yeah he he loved it. He absolutely loved it. And
I felt bad for Wayne because a lot of times
will be screaming, you'd have to try to block me.
But oh it was, well that's you know. Of course
you got a little tired of me mess with him
one day, remember that. Oh yeah, got in trouble.

Speaker 5 (01:43:05):
I had to wear a brace caut y'all you cut me, okay,
so what I'll hush old birds?

Speaker 2 (01:43:13):
Yeah, of course we had and I probably needed a
little little medical care. But we decided that if we
had to bring that to the coach that we were
horse playing and got somebody with spring new you just
need to suck it up and go.

Speaker 5 (01:43:26):
Rick Birders show unscreen phone calls. Go ahead, Papa, just.

Speaker 18 (01:43:31):
Paddler's mama, go write a letter, get no old Rick
and speedy, Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:43:39):
Right now, Yeah that's funny. Rick Birders show unscreen phone calls.

Speaker 21 (01:43:44):
Go ahead, y'all take away the seven o'clock So, y'all
take away this national anthem. Now we can't even have
a white trash Christmas.

Speaker 2 (01:43:53):
Well, look, the Christmas party is coming on Friday. You
don't know what might happen on the Christmas part. I mean,
you get in here and get that eggnog flowing. The
ain't no telling what'll come.

Speaker 16 (01:44:03):
That's right, we've already trashed it before.

Speaker 5 (01:44:06):
Now though, Rick, that's good. Yeah, well, you know this
is not the Rick and Bubba Show.

Speaker 2 (01:44:12):
I hate to hate to make that obvious statement, and uh,
and the you know, and we're certainly four people who
worked on that show. Uh, and we loved it and
we're still those people. But you know, there's some things
that that will always remain with it. And I think
that's the right thing to do, and it's the desired
thing to do. Uh, but there's some things that continue

(01:44:33):
to cross over. I really wouldn't have a problem spending
white trash Christmas on the Christmas good one.

Speaker 5 (01:44:38):
Yeah, sure, yeah, it's it was. Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:44:43):
I'll tell you something to break that's funny tied to that,
but probably don't need to say it on there, but
it's funny.

Speaker 5 (01:44:48):
Rick Burgers Show. Unscreen phone calls go ahead, Yeah, uh,
good morning in Green Acres. I'm a long time listener
of y'all. I was wondering which one of y'all were
the at hunting, the best at hunting. Had a contest.

Speaker 2 (01:45:05):
I'll tell you this, if you look around right now,
none of us real good at it. It's just there
keep winning, you know. I want on that note, I've
been trying and I've seen some text on this happened
several times, and we certainly don't want to turn this
into the you know, the outdoor channel, and then we
start doing the things the way that we're like, we
didn't really want to do.

Speaker 5 (01:45:24):
We want to do things that are fun. But somebody
did ask me. I guess they were maybe new to it,
you know.

Speaker 2 (01:45:30):
What caliber we preferred deer hunting and all that, and
really it's it's according to where you're hunting. But kind
of where we hunt, probably on the low end for
me as a two forty three, and then on the
high end is probably a two seventy. Some of the
places we hunt, a three hundred can be a little much. Now,

(01:45:52):
if you're going to have to make longer shots and
you don't want to go look for it, and you
want to make sure you're not off in the woods
at three hundreds to a good one.

Speaker 5 (01:46:00):
But so I have I have a three O eight.
I love a three O eight. I've got a three eight,
a two forty three, a two seventy, and a three hundred.

Speaker 10 (01:46:08):
That's what I have, Okay, But I carry the seven
mag with me a lot, and then I have the
two seventy and the three O eight.

Speaker 2 (01:46:15):
Probably the most popular if you're asking that in deer hunting,
is a threeh eight and the two seventy. Yeah, those
are probably the two used the most, don't you think
as far as deer hunting, But the two seventy probably
be the most popular, Yeah, because it.

Speaker 5 (01:46:28):
Kind of gives you plenty.

Speaker 2 (01:46:30):
Uh, and you're definitely you're definitely not gonna have a problem, uh,
you know, taking the deer down.

Speaker 5 (01:46:36):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:46:36):
I don't use the thirty thirty or the thirty eight
six anymore. I know that was real popular in like
the seventies, yeah, and even eighties, but I don't. I
don't shoot one of those. I don't have one of those.

Speaker 5 (01:46:47):
I remember dad had one, but didn't he trade it
in for something? I don't remember. I can't.

Speaker 14 (01:46:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:46:51):
But anyway, so so first, since you asked, yeah, yeah,
if you asked. That was that's kind of where we
all are. We all have combinations those pat or same
thing with you. You in that that camp most of
bo But I mean, what rifle do you have?

Speaker 8 (01:47:07):
I don't want to I have the guns that I have.

Speaker 2 (01:47:09):
Okay, you're afraid of the government. Okay, we'll be back,
stay close.

Speaker 8 (01:47:13):
I don't have the guns that.

Speaker 5 (01:47:16):
We'll be right back.

Speaker 1 (01:47:19):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.

Speaker 14 (01:47:25):
Just hear those say those jingling ring king tingling to
gomb on this lovely weather force. They ride together with
you Mary Christmas this so it's following and friends aren't
calling you. Let's go around this lovely weather fores they
ride together with you.

Speaker 3 (01:47:44):
Verybody up, giddy up, giddy up.

Speaker 2 (01:47:46):
Let's go show up some Christmas music today from one
of our favorites, Act of Congress.

Speaker 7 (01:47:53):
Gitty up.

Speaker 2 (01:47:54):
So uh, let's let's discuss another opportunity. We we're excited
about twenty twenty five and it's been a blast. We
wind that baby down Lord Willing on Friday's Christmas Party,
coming back on the fifth of January. Ready for twenty
twenty six. And we've already announced a lot of things
we're doing in twenty twenty six. We have a big

(01:48:15):
eie yet to announce. We'll do that in the first
quarter when we get back. But opportunity still available as
our cabins are selling out and the ship is going
to sell out. To keep in mind on this cruise
that Sherry and I are inviting you to join us
with Oceana Cruises on their brand new ship, the Allurum.

(01:48:37):
And this is luxury cruising. Only only about six hundred
people are owned the ship, so it will sell out.
And you know, if ours the cabins we have allotted
for us, there's twenty of those. If those, you know,
do not sell in a certain amount of time, they
will turn those over to the rest of the ship.
So I don't want you to miss out, and I

(01:48:59):
also don't want you to pay because when supplying, demand starts.
So if you're thinking about this cruise and you just
want to find out more, that's easy. You can just
call one eight four four two three nine zero six
three eight, or just use that link at Rick burgessshow

(01:49:19):
They don't nickelin dimeube. This is luxury cruising. When you
pay the all eight restaurants are included. Eat at them
as much as you want to, okay, And there's award
winning chefs on board, even far beyond the chefs at
Trent Basket. So so, and we're going to have a
great cruise. We're going to get into the Adriatic Sea.

(01:49:40):
We're also going to be going into these wonderful places,
starting in Istanbul, Turkey. We're going into Greece. We're going
to be going to Italy. We're going to be in Montenegro,
which is beautiful. They're in the Baltics, in Croatia, so
it's going to be We're going to go into the
history storic city of Ephesus. So if you want to

(01:50:02):
find out more about it, go right now to Rick
Burgess Show dot com. We are excited and do this
before it sells out, because it is going to We
leave on the twenty sixth of September and come back
on my birthday the third, so we'll celebrate all that
together with you and those of you that are already going.
Sherry and I are so excited to spend that wonderful
time with you and get to know each other a

(01:50:23):
little bit, all right, So we have other things to cover.
I've been paying attention, not a lot to the NFL,
but I've been intrigued ever since.

Speaker 5 (01:50:33):
This guy was hired, this coach for Miami the Dolphins.
What is this?

Speaker 2 (01:50:40):
It's like, I can't I can't take him so it
looks like he's fifteen. Yeah, I can't take him serious.
You know when you see him, like even in pregame,
it's almost like I would check him for a pass.
Do you are you supposed to be? You never forget
when he just takes off sprinting. You ever see him
do that? No, start running full speed?

Speaker 5 (01:50:56):
I haven't.

Speaker 2 (01:50:57):
And Mike McDaniels, but lately he's he's starting to kind
of ramble around and not make any sense. I mean,
I think people are starting to ask the question, is
he okay? So this after last night? Yeah, because it
was seventeen in Pittsburgh. But he's but he's been doing
this more than once. It's he continues everybody he was

(01:51:19):
talking about ramble. He can't seem to put words together.
He looks in pregame, he looks kind of aloof like
you never seem like coaching somebody up or you know,
it doesn't seem really intense and it's just strange. So
here's this press conference. Uh, they got beat by the
Steelers last night, and and they're now out of the

(01:51:39):
playoffs too. So here everybody checked on Greenwood's Okay, now
I have not, So here's coach McDaniel. Mike McDaniel's presser.
Let's listen to this.

Speaker 23 (01:51:49):
As hard as we tried, that was a little too
deflating because we knew that was an important area of
focus that we're we really wanted to be good coming
out of that third quarter. Uh, it's a one score game,
and you know, I thought that was a gigantic momentum swing.

(01:52:13):
You know, had a couple of opportunities on that drive
and the following drive to make some plays, and we
didn't make the plays they did.

Speaker 8 (01:52:20):
You know, that was a better than I thought it
was gonna be.

Speaker 5 (01:52:21):
It was better than the other one that I saw
last week.

Speaker 8 (01:52:24):
I think I pulled the wrong clip.

Speaker 2 (01:52:25):
Yeah, because last week, I mean it was like, you know,
everybody's like all right, and there, I think you're right.
I think he's just cold.

Speaker 8 (01:52:31):
That was less rambling than I realized.

Speaker 5 (01:52:34):
Yeah, the last one bomb love that.

Speaker 2 (01:52:37):
Yeah, that one almost seemed like improvement from the last one,
so so anyway, but I was watching him in pregame
because I watched a little bit that. You know, he's
always out there. You know when you see Belichick and
a hoodie, it feels one way. When you see him
in a hoodie. Yeah, it's almost like you think it's
some somebody just kind of hanging down in the field
like a rapper or something.

Speaker 5 (01:52:54):
Yeah, unning around.

Speaker 9 (01:52:58):
Even the broadcast team was critics sizing some of the
decisions that were made by the Dolphins in the in
the late quarters of that game.

Speaker 2 (01:53:05):
Yeah, it's it's interesting anytime you see like a team
that's that seems to represent such warm weather, you know,
Miami and they've got the Dolphin and they've got the
you know, the aqua colors, and then there's out there
in the middle of just freezing Pittsburgh and uh. And
I wish Pittsford would stop doing the black on black pants.
I know, Pittsburgh should be wearing the gold or yellow pants.

(01:53:27):
They don't need to have black on black. I can't
stand that uniform. I don't let's let's come out there
with it with the right pants on.

Speaker 5 (01:53:33):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (01:53:34):
And I saw Aaron Rodgers play a little bit last
night that was there's just something about him being on
the Steelers that I just can't seem to grasp.

Speaker 5 (01:53:42):
But I forgot he was on it. Yeah, I know.

Speaker 10 (01:53:45):
Have y'all seen him? John Uh Apeman, I believe it was.
It was on the call he he talks about how
Aaron Rodgers went tush push time. He doesn't do it,
no right, yeah, right, tight end and he stands back
there with his hands in the in the handwarmer, just
just hanging out and he doesn't have an attempt.

Speaker 5 (01:54:06):
This is what he does on every one of them.
I mean, he's not even waiting to see if the
ball comes out, you know, like in a defensive look
at him.

Speaker 3 (01:54:21):
Can you get any cooler than that?

Speaker 2 (01:54:22):
You know what he you know what he said, don't
you let me tell you something. I'll play yeah, and
I'll come back from another year. I ain't doing the
choice put bluss. My left's not not at my age.
Somebody else is gonna do it and uh and and
then there there was also like a toning call last
night that was ridiculous, and Apeman was critical of that too.
And you know, one of the things the NFL doesn't

(01:54:43):
need to do You don't need to take the fun
out of the game, right you don't. You don't call
it the no fund League. Now, yeah, the NFL, because
that's part of it is.

Speaker 7 (01:54:53):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:54:53):
You know that they need to have some fun and
have some emotion. And now it's almost that we were
upsetting with tawning and targeting.

Speaker 14 (01:55:02):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:55:02):
And it's okay to protect players, but don't take the
fun out of the game, right Uh.

Speaker 5 (01:55:07):
So all right, we'll come back and we'll have the
box seats this next hour trying to win some of
the cash.

Speaker 2 (01:55:14):
All right.

Speaker 5 (01:55:15):
By the way, that's a good one. At or somebody
said might be Downes and explained he was sleep deprived,
he's got he's got kids to keep him up all night.

Speaker 8 (01:55:22):
That it's fine, trust me, that'll get you.

Speaker 2 (01:55:25):
We'll come back so next hour that will be the case,
and maybe a chance for all of you to get
some shot at some cash to before we're done.

Speaker 5 (01:55:33):
We'll be right back. Thanks for being with us, Merry Christmas.

Speaker 1 (01:55:36):

Speaker 3 (01:55:52):

Speaker 15 (01:56:30):
You got to earn it.

Speaker 2 (01:56:31):
Don't expect somebody else do it for you. So that's
happening coming up this hour.

Speaker 5 (01:56:38):
So we thank you for being with us.

Speaker 2 (01:56:41):
Things you need to know if you're one to order
a sign copy of Men Don't Run in the Rain,
Today's the last day if you want to get it
for Christmas. Now, if you don't care about Christmas, then
you're you're all right, but you need you need to
make that happen today either at the Maan Church dot

(01:57:02):
of those yesterday, but today is the last day to
get it for Christmas, all right. So a couple of
things to hit to start the hour. Greg, do you
remember a legendary quarterback for South Carolina, Steve Tannehill.

Speaker 5 (01:57:16):
I do had that long hair, Steve, you remember that? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:57:20):
Unfortunately he died in his sleep last on Monday night.
Really oh yeah, and there's no cause of death. He's
only fifty two. Yeah, yeah, I remember he was king
of that mullet. Oh yeah, Tanny Hill. So he passed
away last They don't know what of They don't know.
He was inducted into the South Carolina Athletics Hall of

(01:57:40):
Fame in two thousand and six, and he was named
Freshman of the Year by Sports Illustrated and Football News.
If you remember that freshman All American I remember him
in ninety two. So unfortunately, fifty two years old, they
don't have a cause of death. Died in his sleep
last night.

Speaker 5 (01:57:57):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:57:58):
And then of course Beeitedy's little shook up today because
because the actor that played Luke Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:58:03):
On General is a huge General Hospital fan. There's really
more days of our lives. That was one that was
on during my break between classes.

Speaker 5 (01:58:13):
Watch it. I'd fall a slate and skip class. Yeah,
that wasn't you would know that was that. You just
know it's easier, just you know what, don't go back
to that. You remember your hair was a lot like that.

Speaker 2 (01:58:24):
Don't go back to your dorm, don't go back to
your apartment. Just stay away because you won't come back
on campus.

Speaker 5 (01:58:30):
No, you're right.

Speaker 2 (01:58:32):
I remember trying to explain to my parents that the
professors didn't care whether you came to class or not,
to which my mom replied, but we were hoping you
would care and uh and and I was like, oh
that I didn't think about that. Yeah, don't care whether
you graduate or not. We were hoping you will. And

(01:58:55):
I was like, I never I never thought of that.
But anyway, I remember, you know, being kids of the
eighties and then whatever that entailed. I remember this Luke
and Laura thing.

Speaker 5 (01:59:07):
Oh yeah. And I didn't watch soapropers because you know,
I'm heterosexual, but.

Speaker 18 (01:59:12):
I was.

Speaker 2 (01:59:14):
I know that a lot of people did. And I
remember people obsessing over this. Yeah, and it was this
the afro guy.

Speaker 5 (01:59:20):
Yeah. Yeah, and he didn't always have that well, yeah,
you can refer to him as the afro guy. I
didn't know who he was. I just remember that people
were really into this Luke and Laura thing.

Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
Oh, it was huge. And if I recall there is
it was. It was the white guy with the afro
kind of did he always have that?

Speaker 5 (01:59:36):
I don't remember that. It's the thing of somebody else
his hey day. They showed a later picture of him,
I guess the current way.

Speaker 8 (01:59:44):
Okay, so their wedding, Luke and Laura's wedding was a
really big deal.

Speaker 1 (01:59:47):
Oh it was huge.

Speaker 5 (01:59:49):
You probably were too young to remember that had and
they even know what's his face? Sing a song? There
was a song across Yeah, there was a song about it.

Speaker 17 (01:59:56):
No, it was.

Speaker 3 (01:59:57):
It was huge.

Speaker 5 (01:59:57):
It was a cultural phenomenon.

Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
I mean people were like really into it and and
but you know I didn't know what was going on
because I said I didn't watch soap.

Speaker 10 (02:00:06):
I was thinking of Bow and Hope all days of
your days listen and co Greg, course, Greg your favorite
Bow and the Beautiful.

Speaker 5 (02:00:16):
Yeah, this is back in all the while. The eighties
is when I first got worked for the Power Company.

Speaker 2 (02:00:24):
Back then they would they wouldn't put you in the
crew to years, so you would start out as a
helper in the garage or the warehouse. And I was
in the garage with these burly mechanics, and we had
a place upstairs we'd eat lunch, and I had TV
and only had three channels, so we watched Both and
Beautiful every day at lunch.

Speaker 5 (02:00:41):
Mechanics in there. Yeah, all into the story. Yeah, you
get in the story and you can miss the month
come back not very little as chasing.

Speaker 2 (02:00:49):
And when when when Lisa and I got married and
she wanted me to watch Notts Landing and I was like,
I ain't watching that crap.

Speaker 5 (02:00:55):
I watched one episode and I watched it for like
four years. Get you in the storyline?

Speaker 2 (02:01:01):
Yeah, yeah, I think that's the only reason I never watch.
You know this is weird, But yeah, because I can
people say contend to be quirky. I've never noticed it.

Speaker 5 (02:01:11):
I couldn't. I could never get past the fact that
I didn't like the way it looked. Yeah, when I was.

Speaker 2 (02:01:18):
Watching stuff on week nights, it looked big time professional
soap operas, looked like somebody was doing a play on
TV and like they were on VHS tape or something.
The recorder that you took all these kids. It just
felt too weird for me. Yeah, it gave me a
weird feeling to see it. So I never got involved
in one. And but I know a lot of people did.

Speaker 3 (02:01:46):
Little further than I thought. They'll get the.

Speaker 5 (02:01:53):
Around like during lunchtime, Oh yeah, they'll be Yeah.

Speaker 8 (02:01:57):
Now was this look and Laura wedding, was this as
big of a deal as who shot j R?

Speaker 2 (02:02:02):
Or probably it was very similar. Really, everybody was talking
about it. Like I said, Chris cross even wrote a
song about.

Speaker 8 (02:02:10):
Oh Christopher Crosses, think of Laura.

Speaker 5 (02:02:13):
That's the one that I'd bring a tear do glass
I wanted was sailing. Yeah, and didn't they like then?

Speaker 2 (02:02:22):
They didn't they like milk that storyline that like they
kept them round to their way too old?

Speaker 5 (02:02:26):
Yeah yeah, they used it. Yeah, oh yeah, we ever
turned the soap opera back on and saying that, wow,
so everybody's still there pretty much why.

Speaker 2 (02:02:37):
I was watching one day and I just happened to
look up and Stephen A. Smith was on General Guest Appearances.
He was like in a serious role, yes, yes, And
then he went to another soap opera esp N. Yes uh,
which yeah, did you see them other day? Kind of
calling out that we had the audio and I was
gonna play. We never got to it because we had

(02:02:58):
to go into something else. But but where he was saying, look,
you know, he's certainly not a conservative. He goes, I've
tried to get all the the far left people to
come on my show. They won't come on. Every time
I talk to a conservative, they come on the show
and talk to me. I can't get Schumer on, I
can't get anybody on, he said. I put out the request,
they won't come on, and because they don't want to
come on here and debate me and talk about it,

(02:03:19):
even though I probably would lean that more to the left,
but I'm not going to sit here and that like
the left doesn't need help. There's certain things that the
left's got to do different. And he said, I guess
they don't want to come on the show. And hear
that I'm paraphrasing, but that was the bottom line. He
can't get anybody to come on because they were talking
about he always is in talking to more conservative people.
He's like, what, they're the only ones that will accept

(02:03:40):
the invitation. So, but yeah, I didn't know he was on.
I remember somebody told me that he's standing there with
a serious look on his face.

Speaker 5 (02:03:46):
I was going.

Speaker 2 (02:03:47):
I walked through the the you know, the big kitchen
that we share. There's a TV on in there. I
walked through and Stephen A. Smith is standing on General
Hospital and I'm like, what does he do with? Yeah
and all?

Speaker 8 (02:03:58):
But you're right.

Speaker 2 (02:03:58):
There was this female actress that I remember her being
on the soap opera lot when we were kids. It
seems like, I know they can't be true that I
walked through the other day and like she's still on.

Speaker 8 (02:04:09):
Oh yeah, Young and the Restless. I think a lady
had like a thirty or forty maybe fifty even year
run on a series.

Speaker 5 (02:04:15):
All right, something that's been on there. They must get
paid well because they just go and never leave. Yeah,
Luke and Laura. Richard Simmons was with him them. He
made yeah, I think you're confusing that hare dude. I
don't know. I think he was on there. I told that,
so he does. And you know, you, of anybody should
know about Richard Simmons.

Speaker 3 (02:04:36):
That's right.

Speaker 5 (02:04:36):
They licked your eye. You didn't have to bring that up.

Speaker 3 (02:04:40):
Can we hear get tongue in my eye?

Speaker 8 (02:04:42):
He didn't lick it.

Speaker 5 (02:04:42):
Oh, that's better.

Speaker 8 (02:04:44):
But he knows what it's like for.

Speaker 5 (02:04:45):
Somebody to come after you during the middle of the day.

Speaker 5 (02:08:46):
You got to make the first shot on your own, Okay.
If you do, it's one hundred and fifty dollars. All right.
If you decide to keep the one fifty, you go,
sit back down.

Speaker 3 (02:08:56):
We move on.

Speaker 2 (02:08:57):
If you want to move to a three hundred dollars
shot and try to make it, you can shoot it yourself,
or you can get a member of the show to
shoot it for you.

Speaker 5 (02:09:06):
Now, remember the show cannot shoot.

Speaker 2 (02:09:08):
The first shot. But after that, if you decide to
go further, you can choose someone from the team or
shoot at yourself. Okay, but none of that matters if
you can't make the first shot.

Speaker 11 (02:09:19):
So have you already drawn the second number?

Speaker 1 (02:09:21):
Well, we have not.

Speaker 13 (02:09:23):
No, we have not.

Speaker 5 (02:09:24):
I want you to believe. Don't have that kind of attitude.
I want confidence.

Speaker 2 (02:09:28):
And if you if you ring either goal, even if
you ring the goal you're not shooting at, you'll still get.

Speaker 3 (02:09:34):
Yeah, back to the other one.

Speaker 2 (02:09:35):
Yeah that has happened. Yeah, all right, So Beth. Let's
let's see we got all right, here we go. All right,
So Beth is going over to she's selecting which basketball

Here we goes okay, and and and that's.

Speaker 3 (02:10:13):

Speaker 5 (02:10:14):
She actually threw it over. That is possibly. Yeah, it
could be that that bath.

Speaker 3 (02:10:20):
Birth, it was a fac.

Speaker 5 (02:10:27):
If we were giving the prize for the worst shot
ever in the history of Burgess Ball, accept that you
would have just you just want to almost want to
give you twenty bucks just for that. If the if
there was no glass, the Cody would have been hit. Right,
That's right, Adler, you were protected by the glass.

Speaker 6 (02:10:49):
I was.

Speaker 11 (02:10:49):
I was shooting for.

Speaker 5 (02:10:50):
Yeah, what number number eleven? Eleven is Cody Williams. Codykay,
let's go Cody, Cody. All right, Cody, Come on, Cody,
come on, come on, Cody, or his boots.

Speaker 2 (02:11:01):
He's ready, he's ready. He got his boot, got his
Wrangler jeans or here we go? All right, So here
comes Cody Williams.

Speaker 5 (02:11:08):
Cody. He's got a sweet shot. Look there, Yeah, Cody,
you got one hundred and fifty dollars. Huh that's a
sweet shot. Yeah, I like it, Cody. Do you just
want to take the one fifty and go? Or do
you want to move to the three hundred dollars? Shoot
at yourself or get somebody to shoot for you? You
got a sweet shot?

Speaker 3 (02:11:26):
Yeah? Keep where can I go?

Speaker 2 (02:11:29):
Here?

Speaker 3 (02:11:29):
You're ready?

Speaker 17 (02:11:30):
Here?

Speaker 15 (02:11:30):
Right?

Speaker 5 (02:11:31):
But if you go to that shot and you miss, you, look,
does he lose the one? You lose it all? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (02:11:37):
Okay, he's going for it.

Speaker 3 (02:11:39):
He's going for it like his wife's going.

Speaker 5 (02:11:41):
No, no, turn his hat around. Okay, right here, he's
got he's got a pretty sweet shot, he does. Look here,
oh the ceiling? Okay, hang on, hang on? Yeah, do
we I mean?

Speaker 8 (02:11:54):
What do you mean?

Speaker 19 (02:11:55):
Do we what?

Speaker 5 (02:11:56):
I know? We can't? I know it's I just felt
so bad for him.

Speaker 3 (02:12:00):
His wife, Hannah will not let him live that one.

Speaker 7 (02:12:03):
Well.

Speaker 5 (02:12:03):
Yeah, how about that. There's one hundred and fifty dollars
laid on the ground. Somebody pick it up. That's right.
Draw one more, Draw one more out. I mean we
have time. I think we can get one more in. Yeah,
and I got number eight, Rick said, number number eight.
Diane Watkins. Watkins, Boy, that's right.

Speaker 3 (02:12:23):
She played a little ball back in the day.

Speaker 19 (02:12:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:12:26):
Uh, that's all right.

Speaker 2 (02:12:30):
Church League basketball. Let's go make them, make them proud.
Let's see what happened.

Speaker 5 (02:12:36):
Get here. It almost hit somebody by the way, was
really yeah, just hit what we So that's what we're doing. Well,
let me tell you we may We're not going to
do it now, okay, but we may revisit it. This
is where I don't know what I'll do. I don't Okay, Look,
you know you look, let me tell you.

Speaker 2 (02:12:57):
Yeah we we Look, we had I am Beth and
Cody Cody. Cody has all all Cody's doing is thinking
about one hundred and fifty dollars you had for a
brief set. Yeah, there was a there was a brief
I think when you changed the hat, you should have
stayed where you were. You don't change, you don't change
what you're doing. Yeah, and you know that's tell those

(02:13:18):
of the three of you that shot. That's harder than
it looks.

Speaker 5 (02:13:21):
Yeah, and as you move further back, the arch has
to go down. I know on the I know, I
know so right now, but y'all, y'all wouldn't know that.
You know, you would not know that. So uh it
wasn't bad, No, yours man's target.

Speaker 2 (02:13:36):
Now now, I do want to thank Beth though, because
now her shot can be included in the the videos
of the year. As we reflect, uh what, I've never
seen a basketball. It's almost like it was afraid of
the gun. Yeah, you know, it's like the basketball is
like I'm gonna get as far away from this goal
as I can. Yeah, because I'm afraid of it. Okay,

(02:13:58):
that was being me.

Speaker 5 (02:13:59):
No, Beth, we'll be We'll be back.

Speaker 2 (02:14:03):
So uh yeah, people are saying that that math can
tell the world on her shot. You've heard of nothing
but that, nothing but cowdy.

Speaker 3 (02:14:15):
The coudy even flinched, did you say it?

Speaker 5 (02:14:23):
We'll be right back.

Speaker 1 (02:14:26):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.

Speaker 8 (02:14:42):

about some cash?

Speaker 4 (02:14:50):
All I want for Christmas is cold.

Speaker 2 (02:14:55):
Oh cash, well, the uh, the box seats could not
put off any cash. Cody Williams had one hundred and
fifty dollars in his hand, and he went for the
three hundred dollars shot. Many of you have been texting

(02:15:15):
that it hit the ceiling, but you said, we've discussed
the line. We haven't discussed the ceiling. The ceiling is
part of that's part of the course. And even Cody
owned that. Yeah, and Cody didn't come here to lay up. No,
he was like, nah, I'm going all the way backs, right,
you know what. I respect him for that.

Speaker 1 (02:15:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:15:32):
What we're gonna do now, because you know we have
the three questions ways to win and all that. We
called this one one shot. Uh, one shot a shot
at money. Uh, and so we still try and give
money it can well, you know, it's just the money's
in the budget. I want the people to have it.

Speaker 1 (02:15:49):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (02:15:49):
So we're gonna veer off a minute.

Speaker 2 (02:15:51):
We may get back to another box seat person before
we're done, okay, but right now I'm gonna veer to
the people. You are, I'm going to the masses. Oh,
in this case, they would pick a member of the
show to shoot for them.

Speaker 5 (02:16:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:16:05):
Well, great, that's how it works. That's how one shot works,
I know, and hopefully so hope you make it.

Speaker 5 (02:16:10):
Greg.

Speaker 2 (02:16:11):
If they picked me, they're in trumble, you'll make it.
So why don't we do this since today in real time?

bring goodies. And there's there's goodies glor in there. I mean,

(02:32:50):
we've got sausage balls, We've got real red velvet. We
got this. There was an apple thing you guys were
talking about just a minute ago. Yes, oh yeah great.

Speaker 2 (02:33:00):
So and if y'all want some of it, honestly, we
will share with you because we're not going hunting today,
so we're not taking it with us. But hey, we
took all that last fridayout.

Speaker 5 (02:33:11):
How about when everybody pause was full? Camp house was full.
And what was funny was when everybody was leaving campus,
everybody just had an armful. Yeah. I had to help
Brody pack his car.

Speaker 1 (02:33:20):
He took so much with him.

Speaker 2 (02:33:21):
So it will be eating. But if y'all want some
of that, we'll do that now you can enjoy that.
We'll get you a plate, so we come back. If
you're leaving us, you know, I thanks so much, but
don't forget the archives for anything that you didn't get today.

Speaker 5 (02:33:34):
But if you're staying with us, we'll come back.

Speaker 2 (02:33:36):
We've got a lot to talk about, including an opportunity
to see a bowl that has a great matchup.

Speaker 5 (02:33:42):
You started having some plans of what you're going to
do over the holidays.

Speaker 2 (02:33:46):
We've got one set up for you on the December
the twenty ninth in our beautiful home city of Birmingham, Alabama. Yeah,
the Jay Lab of Birmingham Bowl. And we'll talk to
Mark Meadows about that and get you lined up. More
chances to win coming in the final hour and also
unscreen phone calls, So there's a lot still to come

(02:34:07):
on the Rick Burgess Show.

Speaker 5 (02:34:08):
If you miss it, go get it on the arc out.

Speaker 1 (02:34:10):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.

Speaker 7 (02:34:21):
Welcome to the Rick Burgess Show, the voice of reason
for another reasonable.

Speaker 4 (02:34:36):
Lighting up.

Speaker 3 (02:34:37):
Francis, Here we go. It is a brand new hour
on the Rick Burgess Show. America is in the box,
seats are in. We thank you for being with us today.

Speaker 2 (02:34:49):
Merry Christmas, Christmas cash flying out of here, and maybe
another opportunity this hour if you're texting the right word today,
we have already grabbed somebody who's gonna We're going to
get one hundred dollars on that as we move forward, speedy.
Greg Adler also here today and coming up on December

(02:35:11):
the twenty ninth, it'll be one o'clock Central time on ESPN.
It will be the j Lab Birmingham Bowl, Georgia Southern
taking on app State, and the executive director of the
Jay Lab Birmingham Bowl, Mark Meadows, joins us on the show.

Speaker 5 (02:35:31):
Mark welcome, great to be back, Thank you, good to
see on that big boy again. By that'll big boy
Mike go. He's ready, so.

Speaker 2 (02:35:38):
Mark, another great matchup. Before we go any further, you
and I were discussing a little bit. Tell me about
jay Lab, the main sponsor and what they're really helping
you guys put together.

Speaker 5 (02:35:52):
Ye Wow.

Speaker 17 (02:35:53):
They they're they're really excited about uh, their entitlement of
our game. They're they're really getting involved in college football.

Speaker 20 (02:36:01):
Uh.

Speaker 17 (02:36:02):
The Mendoza guy that just won the Heisman is one
of their one of their n i L guys, and
so they were pretty excited about that, you can imagine.
So they got really involved in n i L. And
then they decided they wanted to get involved with a
bowl game and and luckily we were we were the
one that they chose.

Speaker 2 (02:36:20):
Uh.

Speaker 17 (02:36:20):
They're very engaged, which is good from from from a
bull standpoint to have a sponsor that really wants to
get engaged and do a lot of fun stuff and
you know, and their you know, their products are really good.

Speaker 5 (02:36:31):
So uh, no doubt about that.

Speaker 2 (02:36:33):
So exciting matchup, two great fan bases and you know,
a little a little sports trivia.

Speaker 3 (02:36:39):
Mark.

Speaker 2 (02:36:39):
I don't know if I've ever mentioned it, but h
I played little ball and it's uh, I don't know
if we ever ran through that before. But interesting fact.
So when Eric Russell first started coaching at Georgia Southern,
I'm talking about they were playing in a high school stadium.
I played for Troy, Uh then it was called Troy

(02:36:59):
State and we played Georgia Southern, I believe in their
inaugural season. Wow when they when they in nineteen eighty
two or eighty three, would have been fall of eighty three,
wouldn't it right? No fall of eighty two, No eighty three,
So fall of eighty three. And I remember they had
a quarterback named Tracy Ham I believe was his name,

(02:37:19):
and he was unstoppable. He went on to like be
a big time stud in the Canadian League. And I
remember chasing him all over that that that field and
Georgia Southern, you know, and erk and all and and
the reputation that they went on to have. You know,
they they made it into a famous you know, Nick
Saban line one time when they played Bama and gave

(02:37:41):
Bama fits and then of course app State good night.
I mean, they're they're there. You never know what, you
what they might do. And so both of these have
great fan bases, but it's also a great matchup for
those that may not be connected to either team just
want to.

Speaker 17 (02:37:56):
See a good football game. Yeah yeah, And you know,
I learned, I'm learning a little bit more about this rivalry.
I was telling Speedy earlier that I did I wasn't.
I'd heard of the Their rivalry is called Deeper Than Hate,
so and I'd heard about that, but I really didn't
understand it until I kind of started drilling down a
little bit. But you know, these guys started playing in
the thirties, had a little bit of a break, and

(02:38:17):
I think they resumed their series.

Speaker 5 (02:38:19):
Back in the eighties. Yeah, but it's it's very serious,
especially among the fan base.

Speaker 17 (02:38:25):
And you know, I think you know, the players are
pretty fired up about it too, but I know the
fan base is pretty crazy. So anytime you have a
rivalry called Deeper than Hate, you know, it's you know,
it's a pretty good.

Speaker 3 (02:38:35):
It's really good. I just selling ticket right there.

Speaker 5 (02:38:38):
Yeah, so so tell us a little.

Speaker 2 (02:38:41):
Bit what they can if I'm out there, and I'm like,
it sounds like something really good that will have Christmas
behind us, the new year are becoming. It hits on
a perfect day on the twenty ninth, and it's going
to be there in the afternoon. It should be a
beautiful day in Birmingham. That's one of the you know,
it was funny my wife was talking about she was
it was somebody she was talking about with the company

(02:39:02):
and the woman she was talking to was in Michigan
and she said, to my wife, tell me what's going
on in Alabama right now, because I've.

Speaker 5 (02:39:09):
Gotten to the point of my life.

Speaker 2 (02:39:11):
I am done with winners in Michigan and I'm thinking
about moving to Alabama.

Speaker 7 (02:39:15):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (02:39:15):
The beautiful thing about Alabama.

Speaker 2 (02:39:16):
We can give you a cold day, but all of
a sudden, you never know, in December, we might give you,
you know, a day in the sixties and in a
beautiful day. And we're we're certainly pulling for that. Uh,
but what else can they expect? What kind of what's
gonna be going on around the game.

Speaker 21 (02:39:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 17 (02:39:29):
So, so Jay like saying earlier, Jay Leb is very engaged,
and so they have come up with an idea and
that that we're going to try to pull off at
the game is called the Epic Celebration. And so and
I was telling the Speedy, we're working with the n
C Double A officials to make sure we don't get
any we don't get any penalties or anything. But but

(02:39:49):
after an epic play, touch down, interception, whatever, Uh, there
will be a button on the on the each player's
team box that the player that has the epic play
can go over and hit the button. There will be
an array of speakers set up in our south end
zone Jaylab speakers.

Speaker 5 (02:40:11):
Which are huge.

Speaker 17 (02:40:12):
They told me how many watch but it didn't mean
anything to me, but it's a lot. And and and
so when he hits that button, his song will play
immediately after that play, and then he will be awarded
a set of gold headphones. And guys, when I say
gold headphone, these are helmet size like, so they're they're huge,

(02:40:33):
they actually work. And and so he will be awarded
a gold headphone and get to keep that and take
it home with him. It's pretty crazy. And then the
winning team will get you know, each of them will
get a pair of their blue speakers or their blue
headphones that they do.

Speaker 5 (02:40:49):
So you know, it's going to be crazy.

Speaker 17 (02:40:52):
Like I said, the game is going to be crazy
and and all of the you know, we're looking forward
to to doing the epic celebration, you know, where whether
the mascot hits the button or one of the players,
it's the button, you know. But but we're going to
have lots of music and sound.

Speaker 3 (02:41:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:41:05):
Yeah, well you get a sponsor like jay Lab, the
sounds handled you injective stadium is perfect for that entertainment
set up.

Speaker 5 (02:41:11):
It's just it's just such a great environment.

Speaker 6 (02:41:13):
It is.

Speaker 5 (02:41:14):
Those speakers will be right below where you are, you'll
hear them.

Speaker 2 (02:41:20):
So so let's talk about you know, when when you're
talking about the Bowl games, now, these are these are
you know, these are businesses that I mean when I
think about it, when you come in here, when like
at this time of year, when's last time you slept?

Speaker 5 (02:41:38):
Not much?

Speaker 2 (02:41:39):
Yeah, so these Bowl games, it's it is an operating
business that works you around, right.

Speaker 11 (02:41:44):
It is.

Speaker 17 (02:41:45):
Yeah, you know, we people the biggest question I get,
the question I get most often is what do you
do the rest of the year? You know, they think
I just work in December, but we you know, we
started in in the first three months of the year.
You know, we'll do our recaps and we'll work with
our venues and say, hey, what went right, what went wrong?
Try to make it better for next year. We usually

(02:42:06):
find out our date about the middle of the year,
so we start planning our venues and things that we're
going to you know, the team uh functions that we're
going to do. Sales start in the middle of the summer,
and then we're heavy into sales during the fall, and
then we get to this time of year and uh,
once the teams are named like a.

Speaker 5 (02:42:23):
Sleep Yeah, it's good time. Yeah, you're similar to that.

Speaker 2 (02:42:27):
You know what we saw in the movie LF when
they come in after Santa has delivered the gifts and
he likes the season's done, and he goes, Okay, now
let's get it started on next year, everybody starts going
making toys again.

Speaker 5 (02:42:39):
Yeah, that's similar.

Speaker 17 (02:42:40):
Right January through June and my job is pretty good,
you know, you know what, don't know, late hours, you know,
it's it's it's good. But then once we get to
July and August, it kind of starts ramping up a bit,
and then November December is just crazy.

Speaker 5 (02:42:53):
Talk to me about tickets.

Speaker 2 (02:42:54):
I mean, obviously Birmingham Bowl dot com, but but I
guess there's a little bit. There's all all kinds of
different packages and stuff in there.

Speaker 3 (02:43:02):
Are you know, we start off in the end zone.

Speaker 17 (02:43:04):
I think those go for about thirty nine dollars a piece,
and then they go all the way up to our
club seating, which is a little over two hundred, but
that includes food and beverage, you know, in a in
an area that we can stay warm if it is
a cold day. But so you know, all sorts of
tickets available, you know. And then the team I don't know,
you guys, you know, our teams are going to see

(02:43:24):
the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. They'll do a tour there'll
they'll be at the VA Hospital and Children's of Alabama hospitals.
While they're here, we've got a bowling and barbecue challenge
that's presented by Dreamland, where they I think I tell
you all this every year, but the first year we
did it, they ate six hundred pounds of meat, so
you got three hundred players eating, so you.

Speaker 5 (02:43:45):
Know that's two pounds of meat. I guess pretty big fellows.

Speaker 14 (02:43:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 17 (02:43:50):
And then one night we go to the Korean barbecue
where they cook their own meals, and last year it
was the first year we had done that. Some players
have never cooked for themselves before, so it was it
was quite entertaining to watch because you've cooked at your table.
And then that that will kind of go on the
same time with David Buster's event is going on, and
then FanFest on the twenty eighth and twenty ninth. Brad Ryan, Oh, yes,

(02:44:13):
all right, man's best friend will be on. You know,
we'll be playing out there on Monday on game day
and they, you know, they always put on a great show.
They do their bluegrass which fits into our southern hospitality
and serious football theme. And he and his group learned
the fight songs from both teams and play the periodically.

Speaker 5 (02:44:31):
On that whole game day. So oh, that'll be fun.

Speaker 2 (02:44:33):
So if you want to find out everything, go to
Birmingham Bowl dot com Birmingham Bowl dot com. The j
Lab Birmingham Bow coming Monday, December the twenty ninth, ESPN,
one pm Local time, Georgia, Southern app state, Southern hospitality,
serious football, and that's the only bowl game that for
the entire Bowl series. That's the only bowl game on

(02:44:56):
that day.

Speaker 5 (02:44:57):
So nice. So we have it ourselves lead into money,
that's right. Oh nice? Okay, So Mark, I know you've
got a lot to do. Thank you for taking time
to be with us.

Speaker 3 (02:45:06):
Thank you for sir Mark.

Speaker 5 (02:45:07):
Meadows, Executive director of the Jay Lab Birmingham Bowl. Looking
forward to hosting these two great fan bases in our
fine city. But it's a great time out with your
family as well during the holidays. Birmingham Bowl dot Com.
You get your tickets to be part of it more.
The Rick Burgess Show coming up right after this.

Speaker 1 (02:45:29):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.

Speaker 4 (02:45:38):
On the first day of Christmas, my true Love gate
to me apart regent A Petree.

Speaker 12 (02:45:50):
On the second day Christmas, my true love gets me
to title jobs and a pot regen A Petry.

Speaker 3 (02:45:58):
Sure, we're back.

Speaker 5 (02:45:59):
Thanks for with us today, America.

Speaker 2 (02:46:02):
Maybe another chance to win who knows before we're done,
but absolutely we'll get to unscreened phone calls before we
out of here this hour. So a couple of things
to go over. So we're getting really really close to
being done for the year. The Rick Burgess Show Christmas

(02:46:23):
Party on Friday, all of you out there are invited
to be with us as we'll celebrate ending.

Speaker 5 (02:46:29):
Year number one of the show.

Speaker 2 (02:46:31):
So, but then we head right into I mean, it's Christmas,
it's New Year's and Adder has got this video and
we've talked about Look, we don't want to be grinches
at all, but just not in all fairness. Sometimes the
decorations and all that, Greg, you don't have to comment

(02:46:51):
it can it can get be a little much. Yeah,
And I'm trying to get to the point where I
can I can enjoy Christmas without dreading putting all this
back up when we're done. Uh it's and and now
Adler has found a video this what is this? This
could be a game changer.

Speaker 9 (02:47:11):
Yeah, you guys may be familiar with this. I had
not seen this before. So here is the person's basement
or just whatever, uh, garage. It looks like above the
garage is an attic. They've got the normal stairs. They
go up to the attic that fold down. We've seen
that before. It right here is a square that is

(02:47:34):
going to drop down. What yes, look, oh, it's like
an elevator or whatever lift and uh so they're just
loading it up with bins and then that way the
guy can walk it down the stairs and he's double
stacking them, so there's two at a time, and that
that's how they get their stuff up and down from

(02:47:54):
the attic. And I was wondering if y'all had seen
this before, and if we had a sponsor that wants
to put one in my house.

Speaker 2 (02:47:59):
Mister Dennis, my next door neighbor, has one of those.
And well he has so many inflatables and organization alone,
I don't see how he does it. But Uh, he
has one of those, and it's a savor because anytime
you have, especially one of these oversized boxes that you're
trying to get back up in there, Yes, and you're
bending your back all your kind of ways and trying

(02:48:20):
to keep your balance and hold on that is he said.
Without that, there's no way he could store everything Throy.

Speaker 9 (02:48:27):
The Christmas tree box every year, getting it through that
little hole every single year.

Speaker 5 (02:48:32):
That's how I fail.

Speaker 3 (02:48:33):
You got it yeah, not once?

Speaker 5 (02:48:36):
Yeah, ten years between them. You got to get it
past the springs for it to fit.

Speaker 10 (02:48:41):
Yes, yes, silly springs, and it gets gets hung on
your hoodie or about dangling there.

Speaker 5 (02:48:47):
Sure.

Speaker 9 (02:48:48):
I noticed they use the ben system and the red
and green bin system, which we do at our house too,
which is very.

Speaker 8 (02:48:53):
Helpful for me.

Speaker 5 (02:48:54):
Yeah, if we if we could just a lot of stuff,
that's that's ridiculous.

Speaker 8 (02:49:03):
It's still going.

Speaker 2 (02:49:06):
Nobody don't care if you've got a little funny bend
thing or not. They organized garage there.

Speaker 18 (02:49:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:49:12):
Are you ever you ever.

Speaker 2 (02:49:13):
Thinking about taking the step into like the moving features
in the yard. Uh, a little animatronic Yeah, no, yeah,
I remember that place that the mom and used to
take us and it was all the Disney characters and
and it was it was Christmas and they even had
like Santa flying around. Oh yeah, and all that. I'm

(02:49:34):
never that's a lot. I can't imagine those people have
to really be into it. Oh I mean, I'm talking
what you saw? You had that much stuff?

Speaker 5 (02:49:42):
Are you saying? There is mister Dennis.

Speaker 2 (02:49:44):
Mister Dennis has got a sentence like he's like what
he's like, He's like shaking and his and his little
belly shakes, like is he Jolly River loves You can't
punch them all?

Speaker 5 (02:49:56):
Oh okay, because he punches it. It's like yeah, the
oh no, you know it comes back up because.

Speaker 3 (02:50:04):
Well it's high level.

Speaker 5 (02:50:06):
You can't do that.

Speaker 2 (02:50:07):
Have you ever see anybody like go get the inflatables
and you're kind of following along to Christmas theme and
also not in the middle of it. They've got something
it doesn't fit. Do they just want to put all
their inflatables out there. I'm like, I saw one the
other day that has one of the one of those
things called the minions from Despicable Me.

Speaker 8 (02:50:25):
Minions are in Christmas, but it didn't have a Sanda.

Speaker 2 (02:50:27):
Hat or anything. It's just there in the middle of it.
It's like they have a minion inflatable. I guess they
can't figure out when do you use it? Is standing
there next to Santa.

Speaker 5 (02:50:37):
Is it the help or what is this? Let me
ask you this. Do you hate when they let the
inflatables be collapsed during the day and they have them
on at night? I do. If you're gonna have them now,
it's like you got trash in New York stuff like blankets.

Speaker 8 (02:50:50):
We can see during the day, I.

Speaker 5 (02:50:54):
Keep them up.

Speaker 2 (02:50:55):
Why why why would you not want them up all
the time? Is making that big a difference here? That
expert on this?

Speaker 5 (02:51:01):
Yeah, well right, I don't know, I really don't.

Speaker 2 (02:51:04):
I mean, it can't be that much of a strain
on the power bill just to leave the mob that
they're pulling that much load.

Speaker 5 (02:51:10):
You know.

Speaker 10 (02:51:10):
I'm sorry we've had that in front of speed You
think he wouldn't. We've we've had some windy You ought
to see mister Dennis's inflatables.

Speaker 5 (02:51:18):
Try to hang out about that. Let's see what I
don't know this upwards of twenty something. What mister Dennis
is that far? He shows out, he shows out, and
every now and then he'll bring out a new one
like this year.

Speaker 3 (02:51:31):
He's got inflatable gifts.

Speaker 5 (02:51:33):
Comes up and he's got gifts and they're all comes up.
It's all, it's all wrapped, and it's right next.

Speaker 3 (02:51:40):
To the shaking Santa. It's it'll stop.

Speaker 5 (02:51:42):
Stop. What are we talking about? What can you go with?
On flaves?

Speaker 2 (02:51:45):
He got a tree, got a tree, he's getting Rudolph
got yeah, snowman.

Speaker 10 (02:51:52):
Oh yes, yes, he's got Snowman. And he's got a
huge Santah, and he's got the shaking Santa. He's there,
go down the spiritual road with a nativity and any
of that. Uh, I don't think I have seen that.
I don't think I've seen that. He's got Snoopy riding
the car.

Speaker 17 (02:52:08):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (02:52:09):
I think with a little reindeer, like a little Christmas
house he'll fall. Yeah, great, great guy, Snoopy. Oh yes,
Snoopy will fall.

Speaker 3 (02:52:22):
There's a house the two of you. Can't tell you that.

Speaker 5 (02:52:27):
On the two hens.

Speaker 2 (02:52:28):
You know I told you about it Halloween. This house
I'll pass on my way to him from work looks
like hell on earth.

Speaker 3 (02:52:33):
As I hate that.

Speaker 2 (02:52:34):
Well, he's just as big on Christmas. Well that's how
all that's gone. And now it looks like a winter wondering. Well,
I feel glad they got the Grim Reaper out of there.

Speaker 5 (02:52:42):
Yeah, the ones that were the Grim Reaper. And then
it's Christmas. Don't do evening. These they're just as firing
up by Christmas as they are Halloween.

Speaker 2 (02:52:49):
But I know they's got a polar bear too, got
a yeah drinking a coat? Yeah you got some kind
of hat on or something. Yeah, polar bear, you know,
like the coat for the Chris.

Speaker 1 (02:52:59):
The Christmas mer for this is the Rick Burgess Show.
Got a signed copy of Rick's book, Men Don't Run

(02:53:19):
in the Rain No through December sixteenth by going to
Themenchurch dot com.

Speaker 2 (02:53:25):
So today's the final day you want to sign copy
of Men Don't Run in the Rain. Today is the
day you got to get that order in to get
it by Christmas, So do so.

Speaker 5 (02:53:36):
All right, So you know this is that time of
year listening to them.

Speaker 2 (02:53:42):
This is when we're trying you get together family, friends,
and and so a couple of things happened last night
and getting to with some friends. First of all, there's
an issue of a video I'm about to show you
that they all knew when they sent it to me
that they were asking for this, okay. The other is

(02:54:05):
there were two couples that she said, hey, we're going
to go to eat. Looks like they're going to be
back in town. One of the couples, you know, has
moved to Georgia. And this is the couple if you've
been following along, the couple that Sherry and I aren't
smart enough to be friends with them. Yeah, okay, So

(02:54:27):
these are the over here on that on the left,
sitting there with the shirt on the flannel type shirt,
that's that's Brian Reid. And he like knows everything about
like submarines, like served on the submarine, knows all the
the world of submarines. They've got, like, you know, a

(02:54:47):
son who's a submariner, and like a daughter who's like
some sort of FBI agent, and and.

Speaker 5 (02:54:52):
They're they're they're way submarine.

Speaker 2 (02:54:54):
They're way beyond Greg Greg track last night tried to
correct me on two blocks. He said, he said, you
know your brother's close to run. He goes, he doesn't,
he doesn't understand that. I don't know the sun green
version of it. He said that great, and before I
knew it, I was getting a little bit of a
lecture on two blocked right and so and it never,

(02:55:14):
it never fails anytime in this conversation that I don't
have anything to bring to the table. Nothing when when
they're I just sit and listen, and I think to myself,
I'm not I don't know enough to be Brian's friend.

Speaker 5 (02:55:28):
Okay, so you.

Speaker 2 (02:55:29):
Try to dilute it a little bit with the Sagers.
And this is Tim and Becky Sager here. Here are
dear friends of ours in there and our Sunday school class,
and we go to church together. We used to all
go to church together until our two smart friends moved
to Georgia. And and now you know, you realize you're
telling all your other friends they're not smart. You said
most of other friends aren't very smart. That's why why

(02:55:50):
do you think everybody? Why do you think I chose you'all?

Speaker 8 (02:55:53):
That's why I work here.

Speaker 5 (02:55:53):
I mean, this makes makes sense.

Speaker 2 (02:55:55):
I mean, you know you think I want to tread
and deep water all the time. So anyway, so we're
having the conversation. I'm trying to keep up once again,
because what am I bringing to the table from work? Hey,
we had a woman today shoot a basketball over the
back of the goal and hit a Cody sy Yeah

(02:56:16):
know does that fit into I know how to build
a nuclear submarine?

Speaker 5 (02:56:21):
I mean it just it really doesn't. He's an engineer,
it's all this. It's just a lot. Well so the Sagers,
and they know they knew this.

Speaker 2 (02:56:31):
They sent out this video to all of us, including
our two smart friends and our Even though they're very smart,
they're like us. They laugh at just the simplest things.
That's where we connect. I don't know how Tim got
away with this, and his wife has a great attitude
about it. Okay, they I think they could win America's
Funniest Home Videos.

Speaker 5 (02:56:52):
They had a zipline incident. Okay, apparently.

Speaker 2 (02:56:57):
He was dabbling with a zip line at home and
his wife decided to try it. No, no, no, this
crash you're about to see. When I first got no no,
when I first got this video. This you she's sitting
at the table where we're eating last night.

Speaker 5 (02:57:12):
These are not the smart friends.

Speaker 2 (02:57:13):
These are not well you'll see they're not smart. Hold on,
these are not These are godly, unbelievably godly people. It's
too late, but but but but they can they can
they can they hang with the reeds. They can't none
of us can't.

Speaker 8 (02:57:30):
All right, which lady are we about to watch?

Speaker 2 (02:57:33):
In the middle on the left side, This person right here,
right here, he's about heart of Gold, Heart of Gold,
And I mean I'm talking about she's she's feisty, she
loves Jesus, she'll go anywhere to to advance the gospel.

Speaker 5 (02:57:46):
But she's well, she's not great on zipline.

Speaker 2 (02:57:49):
Okay, okay. And when I first saw this, I thought
it was a I generated. I did not think it
was real.

Speaker 3 (02:57:55):
Wait a minute, you.

Speaker 5 (02:57:56):
Gonna tell me she's going to hit that tree. There's
a tree she's about to crash. Really, Oh, y'all are
not ready.

Speaker 3 (02:58:02):
Y'all are not ready?

Speaker 5 (02:58:04):
Yeah, okay.

Speaker 2 (02:58:05):
And he and the husband has told her to put
her feet down because he's already done it.

Speaker 5 (02:58:09):
Uh huh. She didn't get him down.

Speaker 1 (02:58:10):
Okay, she doesn't put her feet down.

Speaker 5 (02:58:12):
We just watch, okay, y'all real fast.

Speaker 3 (02:58:16):
Oh got it down, put it down? Put it Oh
my god, Oh my god.

Speaker 5 (02:58:28):
Okay, I thought he killed her. How can you survive that?
She did it?

Speaker 8 (02:58:34):
That looks like a core crack, didn't you look at you?

Speaker 3 (02:58:36):
I generated her head without her hands being that I
thought it was over with and I say, look, she
didn't it gets words.

Speaker 5 (02:58:44):
You think it's gonna be a simple hit the tree,
but it's so much worse.

Speaker 3 (02:58:47):
I'm gonna ask for slow motion. Please.

Speaker 5 (02:58:50):
Okay, watch this right here.

Speaker 3 (02:58:52):
Okay, now we're hit.

Speaker 8 (02:58:57):
Twice an adult woman flishy did.

Speaker 3 (02:59:00):
She did a cartwheel with.

Speaker 5 (02:59:03):
What happened is that the seat she was on hit
her a second time.

Speaker 2 (02:59:09):
You know, when I first saw it, I thought, you've
got a real bad bruise somewhere just now there she Okay, guys, guys, guys,
when her husband sent that to the group, I did
not think it was real. I thought it was a
generally because I thought nobody would send slowed it down. Okay, guys,
this this second thing that happens and flincher on her head.

(02:59:32):
So she she she didn't stop. She clipped one, slip
one and then up right. O, my goodness, what now?

Speaker 17 (02:59:46):
What now?

Speaker 5 (02:59:48):
Let's go to the audio and listen. Listen.

Speaker 2 (02:59:54):
Let's go to the audio and listen to the husband.
And he realized its getting away from it because.

Speaker 5 (03:00:00):
He keeps listen. There's there's a few moments.

Speaker 3 (03:00:02):
She tried listen. Oh, oh, well, he's not running.

Speaker 5 (03:00:13):
She's laughing.

Speaker 3 (03:00:14):
Oh my goodness, let's see she laughing.

Speaker 5 (03:00:17):
She laughing her, She going, oh no, so she was
there last night, but she was sore after that. You
know she was there last night walking.

Speaker 10 (03:00:30):
Okay, so the picture at the table was after that's
after that. So she's sitting up bright and everything.

Speaker 2 (03:00:35):
She has a bruise, but she could not show it
to us where all good friends were not there.

Speaker 5 (03:00:39):
I could tell you. She's got to tell by why
she was acting.

Speaker 2 (03:00:43):
She said that the seat hitting her that gave her
the second fleet, uh huh, really bruised her.

Speaker 8 (03:00:50):
She looked like she got hit by a bull. Yeah,
like a bull flipped her.

Speaker 5 (03:00:53):
Into As an adult, sometimes you sit there and you
go in my hurt, you have to exactly.

Speaker 9 (03:01:01):
Yeah, yes, she clipped twice. She did not hit the ground.
She flipped and flipped again.

Speaker 5 (03:01:06):
I have you ever seen the child the spin the
top of their heads. You know that's what she looked like. Right.

Speaker 2 (03:01:12):
They're also the two that are like you know this,
this is why this this friendship is hard for me,
because you've got the two that I'm not smart enough
to be their friend, and then the other two including
the woman's slipping.

Speaker 5 (03:01:23):
You saw how she is. They're like the greatest pickleball
couple ever, Like they'll beat your brains out and pickleball. Yeah,
the one player tomorrow maybe maybe with the bruise when
you have a chance, but it's almost like that. And
they're like those two kind of people, you know, they're
they're not overly large people. They're tiny, little people. And
they never get tired. Right we got Yeah, it's they

(03:01:47):
they never get tired. Did the Book of Blame come
out on the husband?

Speaker 2 (03:01:52):
Because I feel like there's there should have been a
little bit of more prep coaching.

Speaker 3 (03:01:58):
She went higher than the latter.

Speaker 5 (03:01:59):
Yeah. By the way, everybody, anybody who wants to copy
this you see me.

Speaker 11 (03:02:04):
But I mean.

Speaker 2 (03:02:07):
That second one and he says that he told her
that he did it once. He said he did it
once and put his feet down and said this is how.
And he said she didn't get the feet on the tree.

Speaker 5 (03:02:28):
Maybe. Well, I don't know what her plan was, but
it was not the right plan.

Speaker 9 (03:02:34):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (03:02:34):
I don't know how the Book of Blame, I mean
somehow probably worked his way back. You know.

Speaker 2 (03:02:41):
If I had been part of that right there, yep, listen,
you know what I think my wife would have taken
my phone and would have removed the camera out and
and taken the video and that, Greg, that's probably what even.

Speaker 5 (03:02:58):
If I'm the one flipping, I'm yeah. Oh yeah. Well
we had footage us, you know, skiing one time. It
was fantastic.

Speaker 17 (03:03:04):
Yeah, that was yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:03:06):
All right, So we'll come back.

Speaker 2 (03:03:09):

the Vox seats, and then we'll go to n screen
