Do you remember when you said goodbye to your twenties
you were almost glad to see them go. Yeah, because
the fact that I had lived, I was still alive
at thirty was a huge accomplishment, big time. And then
when I left my thirties, I thought, okay, well you
know I'm man, now come after me. But it did
feel weird. Yeah, what hits you harder guys? The other
two undergrading your speed forty or fifty probably fifty fifty,

fifty to fifty because.

You know, when you're thirty, hey, you're growing up and
like you're saying, thank you Lord for letting me survive
my twenties. And then when you're forty you still feel young,
but because you're kind of hanging on to a few things,
when you're fifty, you're like, wow, I'm fifty.

See people started giving you discounts on coffee and stuff.

Speaker 10 (07:26):
Like that, right, and then you started getting things in
the mail for senior citizens.

That's the whole other deal we mentionedty, I.

Got ten good years left and it's just downhill.

Does it give you hope though, to look at us
sitting here going, well, they're doing okay?

The youngest guy on the show is forty. It's forty.

I got like I was going to sleep. My wife
was kind of cleaning up some stuff around the house.
I went up to her and hugged her, and it
hit me. That's when it hit me the hardest, because
she has been with me in it through a lot
of my twenties, but my entire thirties.

We got married. I was twenty nine when we got.

Speaker 13 (08:13):
Married, and just I thanked her was I said, thank
you so much for being with me through my thirties.
We've done so much, We've built so much together. We've
got two kids in this wonderful home. And that hit
me the hardest.

Just a little bit.

Speaker 13 (08:31):
I got a little teary, yut. I didn't cry because
I'm a man. I'm forty right, Yes, you right, and
you certainly won't run in the rain anymore. No, I
will not be running in the rain anytime soon. Funny
story regarding my wife, by the way, I've got for
you guys.

Oh really sometime today.

Ok, good, good, So we got some good stuff today.

It involves a a item for a BMW that is
supposed to be coming to my house, an item for
a bm DO. I don't own a bm DO. Yeah,
I don't know anybody that does, in fact, so.

Yeah.

And then also my neighbor gave me a gift this
morning that I didn't know he was going to give me.
So I've got I've got two quick funny stories at
some point.

Earlier and in any moment, we'll just ask you to

I speaking of forty and y'all watching me do exercises
on the radio show. When we used to time people
when they would run. They would run the forty. I
do think that is when my major back problems began.

I was I was kind of living a sedentary license, honestly. Yeah,
you went down hard.

hole in my quad. You can feel it. You can
feel it another small quad. So I'm down in the
stands to get started. I'm down in the stance to
get started. I was living a sedentary life at that time.

I was just coming off off of another office DJ
job and then I had a new one. It's just
sitting at computers all day. And I didn't realize how
much that'll really take a hole on your body quickly.
And I hadn't been doing anything like real exerting like that, y'all.
I flew up to do that forty and I think
in that motion. So what I'm saying, Rick is I'm
gonna suite you for that. Honestly, it was a wake

up called. Hey, buddy, you're you injured yourself. You need
to turn things around.

And this is a wake up call too. But men,
thank y'all very much for going through my thirties with
me as well.

But we had a great day. So Speedy's now fifty seven.
Adler is forty. I am sixty one. Greg is fifty nine.

That's where we are now. That's the current state of things,
all right. So we've given you the new number for

The college football playoff is set.

We can't it. We can't quite seem to get it right.
Yet we keep playing games with the playoff. That must stop,
could we please college football and college football Playoff committee,
Could we just have the twelve best teams? That'd be
great to me if you want to reward you know,
the James Madison's of the world and the two Lanes

That's what the bowls are for.

Or you should start a playoff with just those size
schools taking away two slots just to reward teams that
have no chance and give them playoff spots. Let them
go to a prestigious bowl game, because that's all this
is a reward for a good season. They have no
chance to win the playoff, And so can we not

just get the twelve best teams? You tell me you
wouldn't rather, And they keep in mind, Greg and I,
all of us we come from the world of the
smaller colleges. Sure, okay. And you know what's awesome is
when they get to play for their own national title. Yeah,
actually have a chance to win a national champion. That's
a lot more fun FCS does now Division two and
three and everybody else. I actually enjoyed Jack State football

better when they could play in a playoff and play
for a national championship. Versus versus, we're a Division one
team that have no chance to everyone championship. But anyway, so, uh,
we would all rather take James Madison in two lanes
place and put in there Vandy. I'd love to Notre Dame.
I'm not a huge Notre Dame person, but they deserve

it more than James Madison.

at all, and so that the the group of fives,
they Gojames Madison came in. They came in at number
twenty five. They're ranked, I know.

in the playoffs, that are ranked ahead of them, right,
but they're not Camp Conference champions.

So James Madison won the conference. Now Troy played with him,
and I thought might beat him. Uh A boy looked

Madison ended up running away with it there in the
second half. But and then you got two Lane in
North Texas playing and then two Lane won that. So
but to your your point, Rick, and we have said
this this goes back years is is there needs to

be a group of five type you know system where
they have their own national champion and they're on bracket.
It's just a waste because because this takes nothing away
from James Madison, Tu Lane, congratulations y'all.

in Indiana and Ohio State. I don't agree with that, right,
Indiana and Ohio State are very very good football.

and uh and look they they won so with the
current system they're going and number twenty is two lane.
But yet you've got you know, I understand when I
got go eleven, Notre Dame b Yu at twelve, Texas
at thirteen, Van if you want to give the spot
for the one, you should never you know, I don't

would rather any of those Virginia, of course, that would
they all. I think they really hurt losing too to
a seven and five duke team. But anyway, I would
like to see instead of these two Notre Dame b Yu,
Texas vander Utah and maybe USC.

But I think in the in the on the show Sunday,
they would had the big reveal, you know where here's
where boys ranked and all this kind of stuff. I
think one thing that came up was the tie breakers
for these conferences. How silly it is, especially with I
mean you had to have a spreadsheet to see how
it got to Duke and Miami was left. It was
just it's a mess. And so I think you got

to figure out what what's the tiebreaker. Let's fix that
and then and then figure out what we're going to do,
because as coach Saban said, you have the top ten teams.
They're held to one standard and then the last you know,
the last two are held to a totally different standard.

We got to figure out how everybody, everybody needs to
be on the same standard when it comes to making it.

conferences or Power five, then send them to a very
prestigious bowl. Because now you've got Power five teams don't
even want to go.

They're turning down bowl limitations. Okay, because that's how meaningless
that is. Conference championships. We got to drop them. Y'all
realize that the two SEC and the Big Ten that
all four of those teams are still in the playoff
that played for conference championships. And I watched Ohio State
not go for it on fourth and one and try
what should have been a chip shot and miss, even

though Indiana deserved to win. Ohio State either one of
those they both are really good football teams. You tell me,
if the national championship went on the line in that
conference game, Ohio State wouldn't have gone for that fourth
and one to try to win the game. So they
know that at the end of this is the end
of that, you know, I mean Alabama, you know they
get beat twenty eight to seven. And but but again,

that just made Georgia in Alabama one and one. Alabama
beat them regular season, they beat them in the in
the game. And then you've got first round two Lane
and Old Miss. Last time they played, Ole Miss beat
two Lane by how much?

I was it four or five touchdown? Four or five touchdowns?
And that's our first round matchup.

Yeah, Oklahoma and Alabama, I've already played each other.

You can't hold you know, and somebody put on text nation.
I think you're right. When we designed the playoff, we

versus extending the season. So yeah, they can't really be
prepared for that. Notre Dame, though, is in a different boat.
They're just mad because they didn't. They're the first team out.

if I didn't get it my way. I'm just I'm
not going to play it, even playing a bit.

understand too that people like Auburn they are declining going

we're trying to align that versus extending offered a bowl
because what's happening is it's opening up five and seven
teams because of the seventeen playing a bowl. I understand that, Rick,

But what I'm saying is that some some are accepting it,
like Rice accepted it. Missispi State accepted it because it's
getting down to them to where these teams that are
declining going. So they're like, when we want to extend
ours a season, it helps the young ones kind of
train for a game, and it helps us as far
as getting ready for the spotlight.

So I guess Notre Dame, Kansas State, Iowa State declined
bowl invitations, opening it up to.

to watch Notre Dame get treated poorly. I think that.

and I for your birthday. We went to hunt a
little bit on Saturday afternoon, and so when we finished hunting,
you saw Sherry was down there. Of course she was
over in the farmhouse where you know, which is her
little she shack. Don't know what motivated her to come
over to camp House right there at the end, but
she was in camp House when you and I came

in from the hunt. But we went back to go
watch Indiana Ohio State back at home with Brody and
camp tastic, so on the way back and I did.
That's the only game I saw all weekend was Indiana
Ohio State. And they're both very good football teams. Okay,

as good as anybody an SEC. Okay, this this garbage.
They're not as good as the SEC. They absolutely are.
Now they don't play the schedules, and I understand that's
a different that's a whole different argument. But as far
as them being the best two teams in the country,
they absolutely are so. And that those are two good
football teams. Indiana's defense and Ohio State's defense are the

real deal. And then they're both can be let when
they when they want to on offense can do something
the quarterback for Indiana. Tough kid man. He took a
shot and came back and played. But anyway, that's a
whole different thing. Even though at the end of the game,
everybody wondered if Greg saw his last interview because he

so anyway, so we were getting back for that game.

So the debate starts. What are we gonna eat? What
we're gonna eat? What we're gonna eat? You you came
in with something that was going on. So Sherry and
I make the call that we're gonna hit one of
Alabama's many outstanding barbecue restaurants on the way in and
meet them back at the house. We're all gonna have that,
we're gonna watch the game. Okay, nice set up. So

we pull into the to the barbecue restaurant for the
drive through. Okay, okay, Well, there's a car in front
of me and you know, of course, you know, we're
in the truck because we mean business, and there's a
car that's kind of vacillating. This car can't decide what
he wants to do. It looks like it's about to
take a parking spot at the restaurant, but it's not

really committing to that. Over here's the drive through, and
they kind of awkwardly like they were confused, just kind
of set out here, meandering around. So I shot the gap.
So you're back to driving, Yeah, I shot the I'm
back driving. I shot the gap to get in the
drive food like, because I know what I'm doing. It's
like they can't decide. Yeah, they were hung up. Okay,

So sheet goes, WHOA, why you just cut them off?
I said, I ain't cut them off. I said, they
they haven't. They haven't decided where they're going to go.
She goes, Oh, I hope they're not getting behind us. Oh,
And I said, I look like they're going to park, baby,
I said, I don't know what they're doing, but they
I mean, we're trying to get back for the game,
and you know we're gonna be behind another car. And
if they wanted that spot, they should have taken the spot. Well,

than that it still couldn't and they have some of the,
biggest most influential voices out there in, Entertainment, hollywood the major.
Networks you, know this was what so talk radio all it,
was As rush used to point, OUT i don't need
to be you don't need to be given equal. TIME
i am equal. Time there's not there's not enough conservative.
Voices they have everything. Else but, anyway so they tried

to create a network of left leaning talk shows and
it was a Miserable, yeah and it was based On.
Maria it was a miserable. Failure so in this, BUSINESS
i remember we talked about when when this, started AND
i remember, that you, know they were people upset with.

i remember we got into you, know a meeting one
day and you remember me saying.

things will not decide whether the show successful or. Not

good you, know because at some point the show will
garner an audience because people like what we, do or
will be a miserable failure because they, don't not because
somebody said something mean on social. Media AND i think

sometimes the, left here's a lot of noise and it
sounds real, loud and they think they have a ton
of support and a lot of people like some of
the things that are so. Elementary now they think there's
a huge audience for. This we've said this a thousand,
times but when they put it into the real, world,
okay it. Fails you know. Why they were some loud,

people but they're not a big number of people we've
discovered that again on this. Show the people that make
or break what we all do for a. Living they never,
call they never, text and they never comment on social.
Media they just get up every day and they either
listen to you or they don't on whether the show
interests them or not or entertains.

Them that's. It and, uh and so that if you.

Wanted podcasters that are whatever voice you want to be
as successful as the ones that are. Successful they just
simply need to garner an. Audience and you, know we
we we live and die by ratings and revenue and
how big the audience is and how y'all respond to,
advertisers and that's. It you can say something mean about

us all you want, to if we have a big
enough audience that generates enough. Revenue and we just we
we just signed a long term extension with everybody that
we do business.

that little window several boosters and donors who were interested

our one big opportunity that we're going to have to
lean in on this and maybe the best one we ever.
Have we can get as much money frontloaded as, possible
and then we can also utilize promises of revenue share
in addition to, that and so we can go out
and acquire as much time as we. Want and so
from there basically went To coach McGuire and his staff and, said, look,

guys here's the, opportunity here's what we think we need to.
Do you, guys basically tell us what it's going to
cost and we're going to backstop, it and so that's
what we executed. On we brought in an analytics consultant
to help with, that and then we just use old
fashioned coach evaluations of. Film and then when the portal,
OPENED i was just, shocked like at every position of,

need because we hit it so, fastest so. Aggressive we
were able to communicate exactly what the players are getting,
in exactly when they're going to get, it to all
their families into. Them we were able to actually get
commitments from every one of our top prospects in each,
position like within just a few days of the portal.
Opening now it also meant we were going to spend
a lot more money THAN i really anticipated on spending.
