Last time we were together.

We'll be chatting with you America all on a brand
new show. Y'all get ready?
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Who's ready? Who's ready?
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Let's gout, Who's ready America? Who's ready America? Somebody say
(01:33):
I'm ready?
Speaker 2 (01:36):
All right, So guys, another show.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Uh here breaking down all the story since the last
time that we were together, and we'll run those down
for you. Somebody's messed with the MinC since we were
here last you know, like yesterday started acting that mine
sounds like completely give us somebody because everything was was
down and off what I got. Do you think do
(02:02):
you think that super time, because he hasn't felt well,
may have come up here. Maybe something knew that we
were talking about. We still had an issue with the
echoing in the room and has tampered possibly and start.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Or you did it forget because I sent a text
or something.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Hey, man, I will say this.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
It doesn't sound the echo we part seems to have
been adjusted a little bit. A little bit, it does, but.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Let me take it.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
But but and I'm okay with what I've got.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
It's just not what I had. But that's but I'm
okay with it. It's not something I don't like. But
hear from.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
You check you hey, check to hey.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
I hear less room noise from you guys. I think
he closed the gate a little bit.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
I think he did. I think Tom came and closed
the gate.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Let's call him and ask him.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yeah, because you.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Said you got hearing like everybody had been.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Everything was completely turned down and everything was all huh.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
I was telling the story to the guy. Does everybody
does everybody remember? Does everybody remember the and It's back?
There's a new version of it.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Cat's are back.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
The TV show Night Court.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Oh yeah, Oh yeah, Bull memorable.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah, well, I thought it was funny when I shaved
my head in college and it looked like Bull from
court you did in the easter picture. If anybody would
like to know what if you'd like to know what
I look like the shaved head there it is just
look at bullet night there.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
It was an ugly look.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Inn't they rebooting this?
Speaker 7 (03:29):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (03:29):
Is what you said.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
There's a new version of Okay, yeah, and the only
the only guy from the original is.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
That chicks the judge.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
It's supposed to be like the Harry Whatever's daughter whatever.
And then the main lawyer is the one is one
that was the main lawyer then too, Yeah, John Larry,
yeah whatever, his name is.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Calm down, am I Right? So to make a.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
To make that story fit, I've never really been to
night Court, may surprise you, but I never have.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
I haven't either always one.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
But apparently there's a version of not Court that still
goes on, really and that is the world of the
municipal court. So there's a unfortunately I'm involved in some
sort of proceeding.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
I won't get into that. But yeah, but but.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
But when you when you think about the way the
system works, it just it's bulling there.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Yeah, pretty much.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
It ain't kind of what but but you you almost
it's one of these things where you go, Okay, this
isn't real court, right, it doesn't feel like real court
like I've been involved in in legal proceedings where there's
depositions and there's so this.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Is like a minor league court before you get to
the real court.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
It feels like it feels a little thrown together, and
you're like, Okay, who are you?
Speaker 4 (04:46):
Oh well, I'm I'm the prosecutor. I don't know who
you are. And I wouldn't have thought that.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
And who's this guy in the other urine over here
who's holding like folders under his arm? You know that
looks like he might have had a rough night last night.
Oh that's one of the defense, okay. And uh and
then and and so this this, I'm this, I'm not
I'm not making this up. And this stuff, some of
the stuff you can be very serious. I mean when
you're talking about legal proceedings. Sure, And so this one
(05:13):
is just in some sort of municipal court not far
from the house. So if Adler doesn't do what he
did yesterday, I am today in contempt of court.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
So they told me.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
It wouldn't have been just dropped you. You would have
been in trouble.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
It said that everybody who's being told to be here,
you're in contempt.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
I probably could have resolved it.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
I'm not saying that, yeah whatever, but still so they
told me the last time I was there, this thing's
going forward and you're going to be subpoenaed on when
to come back. Okay, all right, Well you know, I thought, well,
I don't know when that'll be. That's probably been oh,
I don't know what month and a half ago or something,
(05:55):
and so and so Adler just very casually. We finished
the Wednesday Bible study yesterday and I had an appointment
at two o'clock or a local time. Bible study ends
on the live run one o'clock our time. So I'm
gathering things and kind of getting ready for that meeting.
And in my mind that's all I have left today.
(06:17):
And so Addler comes and say, hey, I found some mail.
Somebody slid it under the door. This one somebody lit
it slidding on the door. Addlers that right, just slid
it under the door.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
It was just under the door, slid in an office.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
We don't know.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
We don't know who picked it up or who did anything.
There's only two two envelopes. One of them is a
very kind letter from a listener, you know. So I
noticed that was a personal thing, you know, something I
don't know, and I was I saw it, and then
I was just about to say, well, I've got a
meeting starting here in about forty five minutes to thirty
five minutes somewhere in there, so I'm just gonna put
(06:50):
this down. And my thought was, I'll look at these
when I come to the office tomorrow, because I wanted
to send a card to the person thank you for
the letter.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
Da, Da Da.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
And I noticed the other one looks a little more official,
and I see the name of the municipal Court on it,
and then I think, still thinking it's all in the
very logical, Oh that's the letter I've been looking for
to tell me when I need to be back.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
Yeah right, yeah, I head up. Let me get that
on the calendar.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
So I take it, I open it up, and as
I'm reading it, now, does everybody know what the date
was yesterday on the calendar, twelve March twelftheive as I'm
reading it, it says you are to appear in court.
It gives me the time three pm. Keep in mind,
at this time it's about one thirty five. Okay, three pm.
(07:43):
I thought, okay, three pm, because I know this. I
know Wednesday is there big, that's the last time I
was there. That's when that's the cattle call. That's when
they run everybody through on not court, but it's in
the day, but it's still very not court like. And
I look down and I see three pm. Okay, wow,
so I'll be sleeping. And then and then I keep
looking in the date March twelfth, March twelfth and an
(08:05):
hour and a half out, and I'm like, that's that's
like in a minute March. I did not get it.
And then I start looking at the mail. It looks
like they sent it on March seventh. That's still not
far enough. It was metered on March tenth. And then
I didn't I don't have it in my hand till
one thirty five, an hour and less than an hour
(08:26):
and a half from when I'm supposed to be there
on the actual day.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
And I'm like, so it was metered on the tenth,
which means it was sent out, so it still came
in yesterday's mail because it talks about two days for you.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
To get it, you know, So that's what Even if
it was sent out on the seventh, that's two clock.
Give me my heads up.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
You're in town.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Yeah, and if you don't show up, you'll be you'll
being contempt of court. So I'm looking down and I
have to tell my two o'clock because I didn't have
an end time on it.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Yeah, I'm so sorry.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
I still will meet with you, but I can only
meet with you for about thirty minutes.
Speaker 7 (09:03):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
And then luckily they got here about fifteen minutes early,
so I ended up get about forty five minutes with them,
and I'm barreling out of here, running over to municipal court.
Now do you realize, first of all, if somebody doesn't
get our mail and put it under our door, if
Ador doesn't pick it up and bring it to me,
(09:24):
and then if I don't decide to open it, that
I'm in contempt of court. Or what if I'm just
not here? What if I had already.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Gone, right, which is very possible.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
What if I what if I had to leave and
go to another appointment or go running errand the Bible
study is over. I'm not always here the rest of
the afternoon sometimes, you know, I get out of here
to go make an a one thirty somewhere else, Yeah,
or two.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Were you've been here since four am? So proving on?
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Yeah, normally municipal court people, we got to do better
than that. I mean, that's up that That is what
what in the world? I mean you realize how easy
that could have been missed?
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Yeah, most people are still at their job that time
of day. I mean, can't leave their job. Put it
that while you were still here, but don't have the
option to leave, and they just now get it.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
If you've got to be at court at three pm,
you need a couple of weeks so you can tell
your employee, you can tell her whatever.
Speaker 6 (10:21):
And if you had been gone, I wouldn't just put
that on your desk. Yeah, and you would have gotten
it a day late.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (10:27):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Later on, Speedy, big day for your family today, y'all
will be uh celebrating mama.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Right. I don't put those peanuts down, buddy, all right?
Speaker 8 (10:43):
Aready?
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Yeah, he's got in the pile like he's a squirrel.
Speaker 7 (10:47):
Done. Can I have a work done day? Can I
have a word read you away from everybody? Talk to
the boss. You don'tn't want the mediums anymore, don't bring
them in just a dark.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Can give him some peanuts he can't refuse, right, peanuts.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
He would prefer not to see the mediums again. That's yeah,
exactly right as usual, Go hits medium.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
If you're roasting and you never see your wife again.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
If we see medium another time, we're coming to with
the baseball batsy and he caps, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
I know.
Speaker 7 (11:24):
If I noticed when I rapped today they were like
crushed peanuts in my parking spot. Yes, they were.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Message delivered.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
The peanuts sells under your pillow.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Right, you're gonna wake up next to mister peanut.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Must be very clear.
Speaker 7 (11:40):
Greg does not, and I repeat, not care about your
relationship with Christ.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
He cares about peanuts. Get your butt to the bobbles.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Man after ye.
Speaker 9 (11:56):
If you don't bring Greg the peanuts, you'll be pushing
up peanuts, all sleeping with the fishes and pushing off peanuts.
Speaker 7 (12:11):
Is it too inconvenient for one can of Spanish ranch
to be in there?
Speaker 2 (12:16):
All right?
Speaker 10 (12:17):
You don't spree spread out over five states.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
In the face Bernie Sanders. Somebody said, I think you're
Bernie mob you do this again.
Speaker 7 (12:38):
We'll see you at the peanut festival, all right, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
So I bring enough for him to take home to Lisa.
They want some peanuts, all right. So the days my
mom's eighty third birth Happy birthday?
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Eight uh and.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
You know my mom, she loves her music.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
One of the best presents I ever got it was
that that sub Wolfer.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Oh yeah, like these.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
You don't think you'll pull up at that house and
hear Kevin Darburry from the drive.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
You're talking about the keeps on given.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
So today's eighty three. Now Dad wrote a point for
him that she's he sent the family, and you know
he's always he's so good about the points. Oh yeah,
we gets a little person in there though.
Speaker 7 (13:42):
Again.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Out of love and thoughtfulness, and that's all right. Well
you touch me, Oh.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
That's not in the just to touch my heart? Oh
are you sure about that?
Speaker 2 (13:52):
I'm very sure. I'm hopeful. But I didn't print it out.
I didn't know if Greg and Field comfortable reading it.
It's just something you sent me and my sister.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
Well, I know it's something special, so you may not
want pan up holes on it.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yes, but how about they were they were married March thirteenth,
nineteen forty two. Can you believe that that's in the poem?
But no, a happy birthday, mom, and we're actually going
to be up there.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
We're married and as her birthday.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Yeah, that was her birthday married.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
Yeah, Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
A little shook up.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Looked at me.
Speaker 7 (14:30):
I looked at him.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
I I don't think that because our parents were married
on the same day. I'm like, our parents were married,
born in forty.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
One, it was forty two, she was. She was born
than forty two. He was October ninth, nineteen forty. So anyway,
so anyway, happy birthday. We're gonna be up to this
weekend and we'll see, of course the weather.
Speaker 7 (14:49):
You know.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
I didn't text it span about it like Greg rig Yeah.
I didn't text him.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
I didn't text him away. By the way, did you
say her birthdays the fourteenth?
Speaker 5 (14:59):
Did I?
Speaker 4 (15:00):
Yeah, today's the thirteenth.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
No, I didn't say the fourteenth.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
You did that when you just said.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Yeah, today's today? Because you mess the.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Last thing up.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
This point, I really had some.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
It is today today, all right, So let's let's reset you.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
Your mother was born today.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Yes, today, Yeah, that's what I said, Rick, sort of
and this today.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
You can tell his mind's rattled. He must have read
that point.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Yeah, he got a little juicy there. Yeah, right, alright,
just read that to mom. Yeah, okay, now you have
you ever see your mom and dad kiss?
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Remember the first are you talking about a little I'm home.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
For work, Good to see you?
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Yeah, a little bit maybe three Mississippi, No.
Speaker 7 (15:57):
No.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Ours.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
I was concerned there was a stork brought all of us.
I didn't see anything that was evidence of anything else.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
That's right. We now you never had like a I
had JT moment.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Okay, how did you ever have.
Speaker 7 (16:18):
One of those that?
Speaker 6 (16:20):
No, I'm close though now, well, I just push something
away now that I think about it, pushed something out
of your mind and tried to erase it like men
in black with one of those things.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
Yes, please, God please.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
Yeah, poor old j Trick, that.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
One's yeah, that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
And you know, I mean he was talking to us
as a straight up grown man, and you could see
when he went to tell it that all of a
sudden he was that little boy who hit hisself in
the closet.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Again.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Oh my goodness, goodness had to find and God love him.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
And in the closet, sitting in there, silent, it was just.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
You know, my mom, she no boy, she'll uh, she'll
say anything. You know, she's she's funny's hilarious.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
She'll go down this road.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
She'll get some of her grandsons and set them down
and they'll get to talking. And Jay C'll bring like
some teammates over something because they they're in hunts full
and they're hanging out, and she'll talk to them too.
She knows she is funny, she's just something else. And
and how about this at eighty three and eighty four,
my mom still flirt and have a good time.
Speaker 11 (17:39):
Yeah, there you go, your mom and dad, right, your
mamm this is the worst presentation, pretty much, she'll flirt.
Speaker 5 (17:51):
We don't know, we don't know how she is.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
I shouldn't have read the poem. Well, I was reading
the poem as we were coming out.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
We should have never done that. I'll sell you one thing.
We're gonna print it out, gears.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
I'm sorry. I have my mom and dad flirt. You
worst worst birthday. Shout out this history of our friendship.
I'll see this weekend. We were so confused. Don't hold you. Look,
here's how much it cares about. My mom already has
a peanut.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
Here a.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Good gracious all right, we're back. She's started eighty three
to day, the happy birthday.
Speaker 8 (18:33):
This is the Rick Burgess Show, and.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
You can you can text us as well off that
exact same number eight eight eight six two four four
eight six nine our website Rick Burgess Show dot com.
Three s's all right, so from the text option a
great show out out speedy. Your mom got married the
day she was born. She flirts and tells stories to
(19:04):
college kids. Son of the year.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
I didn't go well, it didn't and just joining us.
It's my mom's eighty third birthday is I tried to
give her a shout out last hour and it didn't
go well. It didn't go well at all. I read
my dad's poem to her as we were coming out
of breaking It just threw me off.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
And you haven't printed it. You haven't printed that out
for well not I don't think not gonna print that out.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
I mean he loves when Greg reads him, though.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Yeah, well, I mean you could have Greg read him
and then Gary chiming. You know, it's a but I mean,
that's I know you have to be you have to
be okay with that. We do have an update on
a story to.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Start this hour.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
It's a story that we we brought you a few
days ago. Everybody familiar and I know we discussed it
even at home. Virginia teen track runner who bashed upon
its head with baton. That's what the headline says, again
trying to be a little dramatic, but it was. And
you remember the track star came back and said, oh no, no,
(20:03):
I didn't do that on purpose.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
I was. She was over on me a little bit.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
My baton got trapped, you know, in her her arm,
and I tried to bring it up and pull it out,
and then when I went back to my farm, then
I hit her.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
I'm just gonna be honest. I've watched the various angles.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
I think that that it's true that she did mess
her up her britime and it didn't and it did
make her mad, but she she hit her out of anger,
it looked like to me, and then tried to cover
and then tried to cover well.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
Vox Verdict had her guilty. Yeah, we we had her guilty.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Well, let's say we're not alone the Virginia High School
tracking failer. We now have this young lady. The update is, uh,
she has now been charged. Now I'm not sure about
all this. Now we're getting a little out of hands
with assault in battery. M boy, that footage though, I mean, well,
(21:03):
I think when we talk about being charged with assault
in battery. Now, I'm not a lawyer, though I hung
out with lawyers yesterday.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
Wasn't that fun.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
So some of you that are in law you will
probably be able to shed some light on this. But
the burden of proof on assault in battery is that
burden that I assaulted you, you know, like it was
I thought it out. I'm coming after you with intention
to hurt you, as opposed to we were in the
(21:35):
middle of an athletic event that I got frustrated and
lashed out and hit you with a baton.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
You know what I mean? Yeah, I do not, But
let this go. I'm gonna walk up hit this person
with a paton.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
I do not believe the story from the one even
though she seems like a fine young lady. They say
she was an honor student. She's not an attacker. I
think all that is probably true.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
She's got to call it in the moment.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
I just think she got caught in a moment and
lost her cool and didn't and didn't contain herself properly
and hit the other girl, And probably the minute she
did it, she probably regretted it from the very moment
she did.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (22:08):
So you're saying it was a batonning of passion, not
a premeditated batoning.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
Correct, Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying, exactly. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
So, and realized what she had done and tried, like
I say, she changed her form a little bit to
make it look like I'm swinging my arms. Look, it happened.
It shouldn't have happened. But she's There's been a lot
of interviews, even Good Morning America, you know, weighed.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
In on this. So so now accurate?
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Yeah yeah, so, Now though there apparently there has been
an official charge of assault and battery.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
What normally, when you're running, you're you know, you're here
kind of in front of you, you know, your armor
normally didn't go sideways. Normally.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
No, based on what we saw, are y'all a little surprised?
And maybe the video just doesn't give you the proper look,
But are you little surprised as it really looked like
it would have brought concussion and possible skull fracture.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Yeah that part.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
I mean, I know she hit her head with a
metal pipe, but I mean it's aluminum, it's not real heavy, right.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Yeah, I'm just saying I don't well, percussion, maybe skull fracture.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
The skull did kind of fly forward when she hit her.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Oh wow, okay, good, So she's hitting her harder than
I realized on the video.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
I watched the runner's head the one that gets hit.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Oh yeah, and then actually it.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Actually knocked her a feather out ahead of her, and
she as hard that she picked up speed by.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
The way, she absolutely hit her.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
You know the say she slows down like I'm sorry, Well,
she realized, I know trouble.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
I know her family are like, well, let's show you
all the angles. And I understand that we should look
at all the angles, but I think the family also
has to acknowledge we're looking at all the ankles. Yeah,
and it's really that argument is not helping you. Yeah,
one angle looks really really bad. Yeah you've got an
angle that looks better. But if you say, let's look
at all angles. Then that means all angles, including the
(24:11):
one that looks like your daughter got mad and hit
someone in backhead with a baton.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Yeah, And I'm not I don't.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
I'm not saying this person is dangerous or criminal or
anything like that. And I'm sure, like I said, she
seems to be an upstanding young lady. But she lost
her cool. And that's why you gotta you gotta be
able to control your emotions and control your temper.
Speaker 6 (24:32):
But yeah, the amount of times she's back in the
back swing or whatever you want to call it, it
wasn't part of a pattern of running, you know what
I mean. It's like you're running, running, running, running. This
was I'm taking maybe a couple steps and the baton
is going forward.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Does that make sense? Yeah, yeah, it's not part of
her stride. I know my opinion.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
No, I agree.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
I agree with you.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
It seems obvious if you look at all angles, and
I include the one that the family wants us to
look at, But that's not all the angles.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Her her hands weren't going you know, ear hip, ear
him ear, and it's like ear hip sideways back you know, yeah,
by the sideways strike.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
Yeah, the the.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Tucker family, which is that those that have the victim.
They did not definitely say whether they would press charges
against against Everett right after the incident in an interview
that they had with the ABC thirteen. However, charges have
now officially been pressed and Everett faces one misdemeanor count
(25:40):
of assault in battery. So legal team out there, y'all
can probably shed some more light on that, but it's
it's mhmm.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
Do you guys, did you guys ever run the relay
race and have to do that button you pass?
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Are you asking us if speedy? Maybe?
Speaker 3 (25:58):
I mean just track and field day, not in college?
Speaker 2 (26:01):
No? Yeah, trying to hand something off?
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Yeah, the handoff?
Speaker 5 (26:05):
Now you mess that up.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
It's over Look, you're not getting cupcakes with your team.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Didn't we have the Olympics? Uh, the USA? Didn't we
mess that up?
Speaker 6 (26:14):
Twenty twenty four, the team's disqualification at the Paris Olympics
due to a botched handoff.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Yeah, I know this may shock you.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
I've just his voice you're in when you're talking about running.
Speaker 5 (26:25):
Hey, he goes into judge.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Our sport is the other sports punishment track and field?
Speaker 4 (26:31):
I was true.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
I've laid out to you pretty good. My childhood and
my physical prowess. Do you think anybody even at field day,
said let's let Rick run in the relay.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
I thought you'd be the anchor.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
No, no, no.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
I was the anchor of the tugle war.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
Tugle war.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Yeah yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
I was the you know, I've had it in the
force the for slot for the softball team, but and
played the one back, but they didn't let me sprint. Now,
I will tell you this, Sherry, My wife was a
really really fast good sprinter, I mean like you know,
go to the state track meet and compete and was
on a relay team that won a lot of accolades.
(27:12):
And she said the same thing. She said, if you
can't hand the baton off, you're not gonna win, Because
she said, we're dealing with periods of time that are
minute that decide who wins and loses.
Speaker 6 (27:26):
So you don't have a You'll have a story of
a buddy of yours that almost got cutting half during
a tug of war because he was the anchor and
they wrapped the rope around.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
And put a slipknot in instead of a bowling.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
It squeezed down on him.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Screaming it's gotten me.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
I forgot about it. Yeah, So there's the update on
that track story. We'll be right back.
Speaker 8 (27:54):
This is the Rick Burgess Show, Okay.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
So, Greg, I wanted to pass this along to you
because we were talking about books yesterday. By the way,
Speedy's going to get so uncomfortable in the Hayburge update
of an email I got yesterday involving this topic, and
I can't wait to see your face when it happens.
So anyway, Greg, I know you tend to lean toward
(28:23):
books that you know because you're right again on all
things involving the music industry.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
If you stay in the right genre.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Yeah, you stay in the right get out of my wheelhouse. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
And then there's a place where you and I kind
of draft together. In one of those places is Tom
Petty and The Heartbreak. Absolutely we both love them equally, Yes,
and we have great respect for the works of Tom
Petty and those Heartbreakers.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
And I'd like to hear your view and you two.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Adler as a as a musician, where do you put
Mike Campbell, very the very famous guitarist for Tom petty
unique sound. I thought I thought he created his own
sound I like I think he's let me tell you,
not just him, their whole band. When we saw him live,
there's no effects. You're not hiding behind technology, just straight
(29:10):
up player.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
Yep, it was great.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
I saw him as part of Fleetwood Mac Ye.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
He had to run with them. Yeah, of course he's
He's written songs with a number of people.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
By the way, did you know that he wrote Boys
of Summer?
Speaker 4 (29:27):
Didn't?
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (29:28):
There's and learned so much what I'm about to tell
you today. He has a he has an.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
Upcoming memoir, Heartbreaker, coming out next week. Okay uh.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
And and he has written a book about his his
life with Tom and them and all the all the
great stuff they put together in the book. Because it's
in the interview about the book sent to you and
I from Royan Greenwood. Because he knew we would love
this in the book. Because there's stuff in the interview
about the book. He took Boys of Summer to Tom
Petty and Tom turned it down.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Think about this though, what it has sounded.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
And that's the point he said that Tom listened to
it at the point he said it sounded too jazzy
for Tom.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
He said, I don't think that's a heartbreaker song.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
But then he said, when I finally got Don Henley,
who said he wanted it, I actually listened to what
Tom said. He didn't like about the chorus, and I
changed it. And he said, what was funny? He said,
when the song comes up becomes this huge hit. Tod
walks and says, you changed it, man, if you had
to give me that version, yeah, yeah, I'm picturing his
voice as opposed to Don Henley's owner.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
I don't know, but anyway, so.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
He but now if you listen to thee that's kind
of Mike Campbell Field like.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Now that we've said it, I remember that.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
But are you are you okay? Are you okay with uh?
He said, the last conversation this is for you speeding.
This is the kind of stuff you're looking for.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
The last conversation I had with Tom, he said, if
I have to be in a wheelchair, I'm going to
do it, meaning he wanted to continue to keep playing.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
He said, that was the last conversation I had with him.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
And we've seen other people performing wheelchairs.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
So sadly yes, yes, sadly yes, sadly sadly yes. By
the way, speaking of that, I happened to go By
on Access TV yesterday saw Phil Collins on the twenty
year anniversary of his first solo album, Everybody Loved. He looked,
he was normal then really kicking around. Did not know
he had some song that wasn't a hit on there
(31:32):
about poverty in the Deep South, the roofs leaking again
or something like that. Didn't even know this song, did
not know that Eric Clapton came in to play the
guitar licks on it. And this is going to bother
Adler greatly and make Speedy feel awkward.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
He said.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
When Eric arrived, he'd had a few cocktails. He said,
then he and I went on to have more cocktails,
and he said, when I heard the guitar work, I
didn't think it worked for the song, and we didn't.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Use it, so I got drunk in playwell.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
And then but then he was listening twenty one years
later to the tracks original tracks, and he started listening.
He's like, maybe I rushed to judge, Maybe I rushed
to judge on that. I'm hearing this right now, Eric
on the doughbro for this Deep South poverty song and
it sounds pretty cool.
Speaker 7 (32:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
I saw Phil Collins regret not using the licks?
Speaker 2 (32:20):
Is it How do you tell Eric, how do you
tell him, no, IM going to use you?
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Is it him nowaday talking about it? Or is no
eld interven He was still perfectly healthy.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
It was.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
It was twenty one years after the album I Gotcha
and it came out, the one that has that guy
missed it again that had all that on it.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
I forget the name of that album, but it was
a big solo album for him.
Speaker 8 (32:40):
That was huge.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
And he acknowledged too that he doesn't have much stage presence,
and he said, that's why I got really cool musicians
and even a brass section and all that, because they
were so cool on stage that if you came to
watch me, you would be disappointed.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Originally, the drummer there is there. They are drunk.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Turn it their good fine, by the way, that's the
exact picture they showed on that and Special. You know
Phil does look drunk. Yes, yeah, maybe he said I was.
He didn't say this, but my thought was we were
so drunk he made a bad decision. Yeah, yeah, Greg,
you are same. Listen to He looks at the producer.
He goes, you know, I haven't heard those tracks in
(33:20):
a long time. That I actually would have worked pretty
good on him. I mean Eric Clapton on a Southern
song about small town South and poverty and the roofs
leacoln again and you got Eric Clapton on the dough
bro after he's pounded a few come on AFL, I
mean Eric Clapton on the dough brow.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
That's what I keep asking.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
All right, we'll be back.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
By the way.
Speaker 6 (33:42):
That answers the question is why why does Phil Collin's
basis look like the.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
Coolest dude ever?
Speaker 2 (33:49):
He said, that's why. Yeah, there you go, that long
beard go.
Speaker 7 (33:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
Yeah, he's played with a lot of people.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
Yeah, yeah, what's his name?
Speaker 6 (33:56):
Uh Leland Scalar, the coolest dude ever?
Speaker 3 (34:02):
It looks like Father Time playing a bass top.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Of the bottom of the hour.
Speaker 4 (34:06):
I'm sorry, let me to freak you out.
Speaker 8 (34:08):
Is the Rick Burgess show?
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Oh yeah, all right?
Speaker 4 (34:29):
I think when you the library is vast and would
you be would you and I know you can be
a purist?
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Would you even remotely dabble? When you start thinking greatest songs?
Do you leave his solo stuff out?
Speaker 2 (34:46):
I knew it. Yep, yeah, that was a great response.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
I like the stuff that of course when Mike Campbell
goes over and plays on the solo album.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
You kind of like.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
But I told Adam in the break, this is telling
you how Petty ran his operation. He he would surround
himself with great musicians and they were all great, as
you said. But he he would tell Mike Campbell. I
was just reading this in the interview. If Mike Campbell
ever brought him anything that that Tom Petty could do,
he would reject it. He said, Mike, go bring me
(35:19):
something I can't do that only you can do. You
bring Mike Campbell to the Heartbreakers, don't bring just another
Tom Petty.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
And so he said, so he.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
And he would do it, and he said, I brought
things that it was uniquely me, and that's what Tom
wanted from the band. Don't don't we already have a
Tom Petty. Bring me something I can't do.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
So so that was that was that's that's a that's
actually a good deal.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
I think if you forced me. I'm tired of this song.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
And I hate to say it, but every time it
comes on, I'm reminding maybe I'm not tired of it
because it's so well done. Is Refuge, Yeah, it's it's that.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
Song just doesn't really have a flaw in it. It
doesn't and I want mean this and is this solo
free falling? It is solo.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
I'm kind of tired of it. He wrote that with
jeff Lynn they play it too much. No, not jeff Lynn, No, yes,
jeff Lyn. Yeah, because he was in the Traveler. And
then also what's his name with rhythmics working with him
on that what's his name that the guitar players for
the rhythmics something, Yeah, so they.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Were all thought of it makes you. I'm kind of
tired of it. Then it starts playing, You're like, wow, like.
Speaker 4 (36:24):
This, Yeah, got war out. I'm tired of it.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
So good though, I think probably if you said with
Rick you can only put on right now. One Tom
Petty song, I'm sorry, I'll probably lean Here comes my
Girl probably eating Probably that's a good one to me.
One that's underappreciated is a woman in love. Yeah, I
think that's underappreciated. I mean that's classic. I like when
(36:56):
Tom was almost he's just so Tom. Yeah, Southern accent outstanding.
Speaker 3 (37:01):
So many you just get how many?
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Can you?
Speaker 4 (37:05):
Damn awesome?
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Rick?
Speaker 1 (37:09):
How about you wreck me breakdown? That's the later the album,
But I like it better than I thought.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
Last Dance with Mary Jane.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
You know what I'm talking about, you Last chance Danced
with Mary Jane. Even though it's for potheads, the riff
is superb.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Superb, great song, and I need to know.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
And then I like, you know, stobout late stuff, grossly underppreciated.
And when I was using it as bad music when
I discovered it on the Rick and Bubba Show was
have Love Will Travel.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
That's a good one.
Speaker 1 (37:43):
I did not even know about that song until I
watched the documentary on Tom Petty and they're playing it,
and I'm like, what is this song? So I begin
to frantically search for it, and uh and first time
that Petty song I ever heard was Breakdown. Obviously, of
course the second one, don't do Me like that outstanding.
Saw it on Starting Night Live, thought, my goodness, music
has a rock.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Could you put on his essentials and not hit skip? Yes?
Speaker 4 (38:05):
Pretty much?
Speaker 1 (38:06):
And I look and I like the ones that didn't
even become you know, these huge hits, best of everything.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
It's fantastic. The lyrics on that are just gold.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
You know, she probably works in a restaurant. That's what
a mama did.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
And let's telly with the kids of the cardidate. I'm
doing it.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
Yeah, so there's so many great, they're gonna be complaining.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
They love it.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
My goodness, Ruby, she's singing Adobe Gray. Guys, we're on
the on the way home yesterday.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
You mean to be bought of d by do Oh
that's so good. Band's rocket, Yes, Adler, you're our you're
our loan, space bro.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
Now SpaceX launch scrubbed hours after heg Seth.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
Every one going to get the other ones? Yeah, just yeah,
this is going to pick up the ones in space.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
Right. Heg Seth shared the message to the rest mission crew,
wish you God's speed, and then it was scrubbed. Yeah,
oh no, next opportunity tomorrow seven to twenty five pm.
Speaker 4 (39:08):
I guess that's Eastern You got tomorrow, don't you know?
Speaker 7 (39:11):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Today?
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Yes, Thursday? Yeah, don't you know your birthday?
Speaker 1 (39:14):
Shoutouts confused all of us today history, So today at
seven twenty five, don't.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Y'all know they're up there going please come get us?
Speaker 2 (39:20):
How long have they been there? A week?
Speaker 4 (39:22):
Originally? How long have they been out there?
Speaker 3 (39:25):
It's like eight months?
Speaker 4 (39:26):
Eight months.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Something could have got them a lot earlier, but Biden
administration turned them.
Speaker 6 (39:29):
Down, right, Biden and Elon took a bunch of heat
for saying that this was delayed for political reasons, but
at one hundred percent was Elon and SpaceX could have
gotten them down and Biden didn't want the w to
go to SpaceX and Elon as the election was coming around.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
And so that's why the astronauts are still up there.
Speaker 6 (39:48):
They're now targeting no earlier than Friday for Falcon and
nine launch.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
Wow, please come get us?
Speaker 8 (39:53):
How long?
Speaker 1 (39:55):
And then y'all say that they've been in zero gravity
so long they will have to be put on ernie.
Speaker 6 (40:00):
So yeah, bone density starts going down? How about that
muscles start atrophying?
Speaker 1 (40:06):
They said that for a little while they're being wheelchairs
sitting next to Phil Collins and Ann Wilson.
Speaker 4 (40:10):
Right, I guess you.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Might not have heard about that.
Speaker 4 (40:13):
And soon Billy Joel, Yes, if he didn't stop falling.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
Also out of the sports world today, it's official. It's
official Aaron Rodgers a free agent for the first time
ever as the Jets release him.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
Jets are down with Aaron Rodgers, all right, where will
he end up?
Speaker 1 (40:33):
And is he worth as much as he thinks he is,
or I guarantee you that the numbers dropping from when
he signed the big deal with the Jets.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
Did I see far say he wah in and said
he had to go to the Vikings?
Speaker 4 (40:46):
Well, both both heard his name tied to the Vikings. Well,
I've heard him tied.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
But Arthur is still trying to come back from that injury.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
He's really tied.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
And we didn't mention this the other day, and we
didn't mention it so much I lost confidence that I
was right because I don't follow the NFL all that well.
I just heard it in passing, but it's back in
this story, so it was right. I didn't mention it
that there's some scenario he could play for the New
York Giants.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Yeah, I heard that today. That would be weird.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
So the Giants are Pittsburgh seemed to be showing the
most interest. That's the king that's got rid of their
quarterback after they gave him a huge raise.
Speaker 4 (41:19):
That was smart. So I'm trying to think who's left there?
Speaker 1 (41:23):
So they're saying they can't. They said the Giants are
quarterback needy. So are the Steelers only having one quarterback
under contract?
Speaker 8 (41:31):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (41:32):
So and then you then the Minnesota Vikings also can't
be ruled out as an outside possibility because they just
lost their.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Quarterback, right, Well, he's coming back from a major entry.
Speaker 7 (41:42):
Is he?
Speaker 2 (41:42):
But Sam went Sam Donald went to uh Donald?
Speaker 1 (41:45):
Oh, I'm sorry you were talking about that guy. Yeah,
he went to Seattle. But the one that he replaced
last year, Mcarthy from Michigan rookie year, blew his knee up.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:55):
Uh the preseason a text or just text speedy, do
you have an inside track? Is it possible that Aaron
Rodgers is going to the Birmingham stadiums?
Speaker 2 (42:03):
Come on, that is possible?
Speaker 4 (42:05):
Come on, by the way, that's real.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
Yeah, oh yeah, yes it is, Yes, it is.
Speaker 4 (42:10):
Wow, it's got to be. When's the first game April?
Speaker 1 (42:13):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (42:14):
Yeah, first home game? Let me let me look, I
put it on the.
Speaker 1 (42:16):
Y is the stadium guy for the Birmingham Stadius and
he also fills in as the mascot. Just ever now,
I'm not trying, not trying to be funny at all.
I can't remember the name of the league now since
they've merged the two together, ufl uf L is it
is your problem? I couldn't remember it isn't it.
Speaker 2 (42:34):
I think the first home game I've got is a
Friday night. Uh see means eleventh.
Speaker 6 (42:42):
All right, So this photo of Aaron Rodgers, this is recent.
Here he is literally walking on the beach with headphones
and a like a blanket or something that's a he's
contemplating his life and his future.
Speaker 4 (42:56):
And it looks like he's just been hanging out with
druids again.
Speaker 2 (42:59):
Yeah, right, he's enjoying himself. Mightn't want to be on
that beat. You know, he didn't have a great year
last year, but he was on the Jets. Let's don't
forget that. I know. That's why being on the Giants
would be just like.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
Wow, he needs to You kind of want to see
him go to the like I know the Steelers they're
struggling on defense too, but they do have some great
receivers and he is an accurate I mean, but when
he's right, and again he's getting old, so maybe maybe
the fast, maybe the best is over. But when he
decides to when he decides to throw a good ball.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
You have to look back and go, Okay, what was
the Jets? That was that the right decision? Because they're
not you you thought, wow, they're built to win now,
because that's really what he needs. He's so late in
his career. He's got to go to a team that's
ready to win right now.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
I wonder if the year he got hurt on the
first play, I wonder if if that would have been
a better er. Yeah, because I don't know who all
was left the next year who wasn't. But we'll be
back more than Rick Burgess Show coming up right after this.
Speaker 8 (44:02):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (44:11):
So these are you know, letters from you the audience.
If you put hayburd Hayburg in the subject line, that
means that you say, I'd like for this to be
considered to be chatted about on the air with the
audience and with the whole team. All Right, So we're
gonna do probably multiple little shots today because there's so
many good ones, and we got spam coming up, so
(44:32):
we're not gonna we won't do all of them here,
but I'll come back and pick up some of them.
But I wanted to get to this one for sure,
because I wanted to look right here and at one
Calvin Speedy Wilburn, Oh, I thought you no, let me
tell you, unlike unlike you. Greg doesn't find anything to
be socially awkward apparently.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
So do you remember our little.
Speaker 4 (44:54):
Talk we had yesterday about the book? The book I
was reading, and yeah, Cherry was telling me.
Speaker 1 (45:01):
To finish it, and I was saying, hey, I'm sorry
to kind of wind that album.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
Yeah, it is funny you didn't finish a book called
fourth Quarter?
Speaker 4 (45:09):
Okay, good, I set you up perfectly.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
Oh and you didn't think about the person that gave
it to you and know all that.
Speaker 4 (45:16):
Hey Birch, hey Burg. Oh it's worse.
Speaker 1 (45:18):
Oh no, this is Matthew Kelly, co author of the
Fourth Quarter.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
I knew it. Sorry. Why did you go on air
with that with the title?
Speaker 1 (45:29):
You could have just I know, I mean Ad puts
it up on the screen and everything.
Speaker 2 (45:32):
Oh yeah, we showed them.
Speaker 4 (45:33):
Well, we're just trying to be right, haven't.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
We're just trying to report. You didn't just say I
stopped reading. You said a kind of got I just
talked about some of the repetitive and had to write
where it was going.
Speaker 1 (45:46):
I heard a colleague, I'm smarter than everybody. I heard
through a colleague that you are currently reading our book
and wanted to ask you if you would be interested
in making an appearance on our podcast.
Speaker 2 (46:00):
So they maybe they don't know that they didn't listen.
Maybe they just thought you brought it up. You didn't
trash the book you finished. I didn't trush them. I
didn't know.
Speaker 4 (46:10):
I said it was that the point was here in
the segment you just said that you yeah, you've died books.
I'm the problem.
Speaker 1 (46:18):
It's good spind And I said, once I started out
really in and I'm not saying that I'm right about this.
Speaker 2 (46:24):
It's just it's a quirk that I have that if I.
Speaker 1 (46:27):
Start thinking, I know the point the book's trying to make,
I go got the point.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
And then I said, it means I guess I'm done.
Speaker 1 (46:33):
No, And I said, in this particular book, which is
the way it should be used for those of you
out there, that it.
Speaker 4 (46:38):
Will be beneficial to your life.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
This is different is that there's a lot of worksheets
in it where you go and say things like you
fill out some things that you know, you journal a
little bit. That's the word I'm looking for. Really, raise
your hand if you think I've ever journaled in my
entire life. I wish I had some because I like
to go back.
Speaker 4 (46:56):
And you had wish.
Speaker 1 (46:57):
I was told by man a long time ago, you're
gonna wi shoe journal. He couldn't sell me on it,
and uh, you.
Speaker 4 (47:03):
Didn't listen nor wish.
Speaker 2 (47:05):
But yeah, do I wish I had journaled? I don't know,
but maybe maybe say this is we're going down to
get bad path again.
Speaker 1 (47:13):
So because there, I mean, there's a positive to journaling.
So did you see speedy almost just getting the feedable position?
When I read that open line, this is the co
author of that book.
Speaker 2 (47:23):
Because we mentioned it during yesterday's segment. This is not
the endorsement they want said the book was great?
Speaker 4 (47:31):
It really I did. I talked about the beginning.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
Of it was in the beginning.
Speaker 1 (47:34):
Let me tell you last night, after I saw this email,
I went back last night I read it. I held
the book up to Sherry as we got into into
the reading position, and I said, look what I have.
Speaker 4 (47:45):
I'm going to go ahead and finish this book. And
she said, good for you. Do you have a pen?
Speaker 1 (47:48):
I did not have a pen. Willing to journal, but
I can't do it.
Speaker 2 (47:56):
I'm in my bed.
Speaker 4 (47:57):
How am I going to journal?
Speaker 3 (47:57):
That's true, But anyway, think of it more of like
a iary you know.
Speaker 4 (48:01):
Oh yeah, that made me feel bad. I found the
diary underneath the tree and.
Speaker 2 (48:07):
Started reading about me.
Speaker 4 (48:11):
But it's a sad song about him. He thought she
was all about him. There's someone that's not me. Wouldn't
you know?
Speaker 2 (48:22):
He wouldn't.
Speaker 4 (48:24):
And then he goes on to try to wish him
well what he don't mean mean?
Speaker 2 (48:27):
He said, what song you're talking about? That bread bread diary?
Speaker 4 (48:32):
It's a deep cut. It's a deep cut.
Speaker 2 (48:34):
I learned of you.
Speaker 1 (48:36):
I love listen, this is now about you have to
really feel bad. I learned of you through your many
speaking engagements across the country.
Speaker 4 (48:43):
And uh, he clearly didn't hear this. I'm not gonna
read the rest of it.
Speaker 1 (48:45):
But he didn't hear the same little personal, little personal.
The rest of it in a good way, just an encouragement,
but I'm not going to read it. And uh, nice guy,
I have offices in California. That's where you need to
get Florida and Kentucky successful. And here's and can record
in any of my locations.
Speaker 2 (49:03):
He ain't bragging, that's just what happened.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
If you picked the location and the time, and we'll
make this happen.
Speaker 4 (49:09):
You can't be a guest on the show and go
you don't all that journaling.
Speaker 1 (49:14):
Stop reading your book because it was very what a
very very kind the start of getting repetitive. But this
is not not a surprise here. You can't say anything,
miss fumbled, shout out to my mom. All right, listen,
she's not trying to do a podcast with it in
a typical typical me reading parts in the email that
(49:34):
I even missed when I read the email at first.
You even skipped through email At first, I thought, be
on their podcast, great, honor, get the zoom link.
Speaker 4 (49:42):
I think they're asking me to come to one of
these places and be in the room. Oh no, go
to California. See if you see if you're already it
this way, you know it. Tom would love for you
to be on the podcast.
Speaker 3 (49:51):
What's the name of the podcast?
Speaker 12 (49:52):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (49:54):
It says the same name the fourth quarter of your lot,
It says, I have starts out real good.
Speaker 4 (49:59):
Then it kind of y'all where that was going? In
the middle of last night, I continued reading, it's.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
A fifteen minute podcast for forty five aknewhere it was going.
I continued reading last.
Speaker 5 (50:13):
Night, I said, I doesn't got a good point.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
I know it.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
I'm back on the task, and I'll tell you got
me was a texture, not any you people, because y'all
are not very encouraging. Is the texture who said, Rick,
you literally did not finish the fourth quarter of a
book called the fourth quarter?
Speaker 2 (50:29):
And Rick, you know what, You're right? That makes it
really does. So I'm back on it.
Speaker 1 (50:35):
So if it says you picked the journaling, you picked
the location, that means they want me to come to
one of these.
Speaker 2 (50:39):
That's where I'd be honored to be on your podcast.
But it's going to have to be Zoom.
Speaker 1 (50:43):
California, Florida, and Kentucky. Either one of those, Well, Kentucky,
just run them up. Kentucky did that way you're there,
so you can go to Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (50:52):
I'm thinking Florida. Wow, I need to find that.
Speaker 1 (50:56):
Well, this is where this is where a dig, this
is where an alib I am a guy. We think
if somebody says Florida, they mean the Panama. We don't
even acknowledge the rest of Florida.
Speaker 2 (51:04):
Now Miami, Orlando.
Speaker 1 (51:07):
Yeah, it's it's gonna be something that's further away than
even Kentucky with I would love to be able to
do that, Not sure how, but I would love.
Speaker 5 (51:17):
That you're going to be on there.
Speaker 2 (51:18):
I'd like to be on the podcast. I would top
of the hour.
Speaker 8 (51:22):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 4 (51:30):
James, to just give you an idea.
Speaker 1 (51:32):
So what we what James does here is because we
cover so many markets in so many areas, he gives
you the broad book to what to what to expect
anytimes severe weather or where weather event is taking place. Now,
as he instructed you, because we're talking about a vast area,
but we're really talking about only a small percentage, Thank
(51:54):
the Lord, that will really be impacted. But if that
ends up being you, then that that's a big deal.
So now you've got to depend on those affiliates. If
you have an affiliate, they'll keep you updated as these
fronts move through on what's going going on where you are.
Of course he mentioned the apps and weather radios and
(52:16):
all that's very informative. And you know, just have everything
he talked about ready and hopefully and for most of us,
we will never have to use any of it. But
if you do have to use it, then you'll be
ready to go. And like I say, these things can
be very devastating. As we know, but they don't last
very long. So but you just need to be prepared.
Speaker 4 (52:36):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
Yeah, you got something for great. I just you know,
Greg's always liked and I just didn't know if he
knew what happened today March thirteenth, seventeen eighty one.
Speaker 4 (52:52):
And let me think what I was doing that day.
I have no idea. You don't know.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
Nope, m the planet Uranus was discover today. The day
it is today is today discovered Uranus.
Speaker 4 (53:07):
Today, be a good day today.
Speaker 2 (53:09):
There we go.
Speaker 4 (53:09):
Why would you do this?
Speaker 2 (53:10):
That's just the planet tall you know, I know space
bro in there is all you know. It's the giant
ice planet was discovered. Is an ice planet.
Speaker 3 (53:21):
I know that it's got the third largest diameter.
Speaker 4 (53:24):
So it's cold and Uranus it is. It's not in
its own Yeah, there's not there's no end. That's a
good point. There's no n there's no n just didn't know.
Speaker 6 (53:35):
Uranus has the forced largest mass amongst the Solar System planet.
Speaker 2 (53:42):
You was gonna throw out facts.
Speaker 4 (53:44):
Happy birthday Uranus.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (53:47):
Greg says, I like big planets and I do not lie.
Speaker 3 (53:51):
So like other giant planets, Uranus has a ring system.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Yeah, thirteen rings, thirteen rings, twenty seven moons?
Speaker 1 (53:58):
Really all they can did y'all just say that a
planet called Uranus, that's twenty seven moon.
Speaker 4 (54:04):
Yes, I just want to.
Speaker 2 (54:06):
Be sure I got this. That is correct? That is correct.
Speaker 4 (54:10):
Oh, that's so good. So you didn't know that.
Speaker 2 (54:12):
I thought you would just go ahead.
Speaker 4 (54:13):
And I didn't know it.
Speaker 7 (54:14):
Ye.
Speaker 4 (54:15):
Wow, you got to get that date and put it
up in your own to get a poster right next
to the peanuts. There's little debbies.
Speaker 6 (54:22):
There's storms on Uranus with record breaking wind speed five
hundred miles per hour.
Speaker 2 (54:29):
It seems right, that's a lot of wind on Uranus.
Speaker 4 (54:33):
I should have on you that.
Speaker 7 (54:35):
Well.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
I just didn't know if he knew. He knows everything,
so I didn't know if he knew this.
Speaker 4 (54:39):
I didn't know it.
Speaker 2 (54:40):
I thought you. I thought you the calendar though, Yeah,
I thought you had to file that one away.
Speaker 1 (54:44):
I thought my calendar on my computer should have had
it automatically in there.
Speaker 2 (54:47):
March thirteenth is my mom's birthday, but seventeen eighty one
is that's when Uranus was was discovered.
Speaker 7 (54:53):
So.
Speaker 4 (54:57):
Your mom shares a birthday with your.
Speaker 6 (55:03):
There is Uranus is tilted at fifty nine degrees.
Speaker 2 (55:10):
She appreciate that shout out. That's not in my dad's
point point.
Speaker 4 (55:16):
They said, you can't even say all the rings without
a mirror. Yeah, it's too easy. Again it is to
you know, shame, just run the score up.
Speaker 2 (55:28):
It really is. What if you lived in your there's
a town in Missouri.
Speaker 1 (55:33):
There's many a few years of my life. There is
a few years of my life I was most certain I.
Speaker 2 (55:39):
Couldn't get no more.
Speaker 4 (55:40):
My head was in there.
Speaker 2 (55:41):
I know that living there. Dad, Yeah, yeah, that was
telling us about it.
Speaker 4 (55:49):
Only feel pepper ass and there their gradiate wins.
Speaker 2 (55:56):
Yeah there.
Speaker 4 (55:57):
Guy had a picture minute ago.
Speaker 1 (55:58):
And you know, there's a stuff you do, and it's
He's sitting there with a Rick Birders show shirt on
reading an article.
Speaker 4 (56:06):
That I'd written about Grady at Winds. Funny, funny, pretty funny.
Speaker 3 (56:10):
The planet is water, ammonia, and methane.
Speaker 2 (56:14):
He just made that.
Speaker 3 (56:15):
I'm reading it.
Speaker 2 (56:17):
You there's no methane there.
Speaker 4 (56:20):
You you added that?
Speaker 3 (56:21):
No, I didn't.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
You did? All right?
Speaker 4 (56:22):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (56:23):
Why do you always think I'm lying? Why do y'all
always think I'm lying?
Speaker 4 (56:26):
Should you be making somebody of breakfast rito?
Speaker 2 (56:28):
A Rick when you were going through severe weather, which
is very important. You didn't tell everybody getting the raven there.
Speaker 1 (56:35):
It is the text some people have texted. Now you
bring it up, you can get in the raven, guys.
I was I was new to severe weather updates.
Speaker 4 (56:44):
That's true. I was new on the radio.
Speaker 2 (56:47):
Time.
Speaker 4 (56:47):
I was live on the radio.
Speaker 1 (56:48):
There was devastation out there, and I was reading from
the National Weather Service and the word ravine snuck up
on me and I said, if you're in an automobile
like James just talked about, off now and seek shelter
in a raven, I'm going. Everybody went, what it's like?
Oh are those readily available? Where do you find a raven?
(57:12):
I hold it over my head.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
I get alive?
Speaker 12 (57:17):
Uh so?
Speaker 1 (57:17):
And I remember my boss sticking his head in the studio,
and he wasn't thrilled about.
Speaker 2 (57:23):
Said you hear what you just said, you idiot? Well
you probably thought that you owned it. He's sticking his
head in, headphones down. Everybody's safe now.
Speaker 4 (57:33):
I just I saved lives.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
Just then?
Speaker 1 (57:35):
How you confused me telling me how many lives? I
say with that raven instruction?
Speaker 5 (57:40):
So you meant to say ravine?
Speaker 4 (57:41):
Yes, I did.
Speaker 3 (57:42):
I heard there's a lot of Ravenes on your rang there.
Speaker 4 (57:46):
And there we go. H.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
I love when you do that deep dive.
Speaker 3 (57:51):
Well, bring in the facts, do what you say.
Speaker 2 (57:54):
We'll be back.
Speaker 1 (57:55):
Uh uh hey bird a Birge. I'm with all of
you on left lane drivers, but I'd like to ask
the team, what about these people that had just decide
to turn their flashers on and just park in the
middle of the road downtown.
Speaker 4 (58:13):
You ever seen that?
Speaker 2 (58:14):
You ever been?
Speaker 1 (58:14):
You ever been in a city setting, they give up
on parking and they just say there's no parking down here,
and they'll pull up outside where they're going in, sit
right in the middle of the road, turn flashers on
and just leave the car sitting.
Speaker 2 (58:24):
Now, they're not delivery delivery, They're not delivery.
Speaker 4 (58:28):
They're not delivered.
Speaker 1 (58:29):
I've seen it before, and it says the downtown Birmingham
where I live and you guys live, notorious for this.
Speaker 4 (58:36):
And you are right, I've seen it.
Speaker 1 (58:38):
Said, I have come very close to getting out of
my car and yelling for them to move.
Speaker 2 (58:42):
You can't do that. That's not safe.
Speaker 1 (58:45):
Yeah, so he said, But I'm not going to because
it's not safe. All right, he did put but I
want but.
Speaker 4 (58:51):
I've seen that.
Speaker 2 (58:52):
I don't think. I don't think we can yet.
Speaker 1 (58:54):
I'm saying you can't just park in the middle of
I don't think you can just take your car and
say I can't find a parking spot. Now you know,
I know when you're by yourself you can't let somebody out.
But I mean, you can't just stop it. I'm seeing
it now. It makes traffic on everybody because now none
of us. Well, now we're dealing with you. You can't
park in the middle.
Speaker 2 (59:10):
You can't.
Speaker 4 (59:10):
You can't park in and ask you a question.
Speaker 2 (59:12):
About back to Ben Napier just real quick, Well, I
tell you all about some Ben. If let's say Ben says, yeah,
let's meet. And this is no offense to the Superrew
because I know their great car.
Speaker 4 (59:24):
You pull up and you're going to pull up in
the Superfan rick you get have to park down the
block and like walk even if it's right.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
No, I walk to where it is.
Speaker 1 (59:33):
I will not drive up in the car. No, how,
that's not the first impression. That's not the first impression. Hide,
no way rent a truck driving in What if I
just parked the thing somewhere, and I just walked to
wherever he is, all right, like you jogged to get there.
I've got my hotel information if it came in yesterday,
I know where I'm staying.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
Okay, that's nice.
Speaker 5 (59:54):
What's the name of the hotel?
Speaker 1 (59:55):
Would I would have already sent it to Ben, but
he's him, hon So.
Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
Just getting an uber, get an uber to take you there? No, honestly,
straight up, I'll do that.
Speaker 1 (01:00:05):
I'll do that before Ben Napier sees me in a
super I promise you that. I promise you that. Okay,
hey bird, Hey bird. This comes from Chris in Washington State.
I'm watching the movie Ice Age with my grandson and
it just hit me. I realize, you are the mammoth,
Greg squirrel, Oh it's coming. Greg is the saber to
(01:00:28):
tiger speedy.
Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Oh, here I go.
Speaker 1 (01:00:31):
You are the squirrel me. That's what it says. And
Adler is the sloth. I don't know, he's not the character.
This is the movie, I say. I don't know how
I've missed that with the grandkids, but I have never
seen it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
You've never seen Ice Age. I got a movie. I
watched The Littlest Dinosaur or whatever. It was going, Yeah,
but that was wow. Here we are great lesson.
Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
Now they're saying, I'm the mammoth, Greg, you're the saber tooth,
tiger speed, he's the squirrelrel and the sloth.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
Remember, don't think about the animal kingdom.
Speaker 4 (01:01:08):
He's saying. The animated characters, the way they act. Now
the sloth.
Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
It did sting. Yes, oh maybe that's why. Yeah, why
don't you just.
Speaker 6 (01:01:15):
Take your nuts and get out of here.
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
Look at you, I'm the sloth.
Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
Really stupid than that.
Speaker 6 (01:01:24):
Yeah, I don't think I'm not a stupid.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Not exactly the go to I don't think you're the sloth.
Speaker 4 (01:01:34):
All right, we'll be back.
Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
I don't think you're more of the show coming out
right after this.
Speaker 8 (01:01:40):
This is the Rick Burgess show.
Speaker 5 (01:01:48):
That's right, baby, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
So so here we go. We've been We've covered.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
A lot today speaking of those archives. So if you
miss something, oh go back and catch it. You missed
a lot today. We don't waste any time. No is
after bringing everybody breakfast, brit Adler, look at you, man,
he just made us all a breakfast burrito. Noh, nobody
expected that. That's what makes it so special. He just
(01:02:17):
he's been in there slaving over his daily breakfast burrito.
It was a bone of contention yesterday and we we.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
Catch off and it won't do it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:25):
We let you off the hook on that workplace, best friend.
And now he's moving hisself back into m v P

Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
Hey, guys, when I say this, I mean it.
Speaker 5 (01:02:37):
Eat it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
You aren't setting us up, are you?
Speaker 7 (01:02:40):
Uh? Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:02:41):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:02:42):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:02:42):
You didn't make these with anger, did you?
Speaker 7 (01:02:45):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
Yes, but without no malice.
Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
As much as I like a good prank, I never
do with food prank.
Speaker 4 (01:02:51):
No, you can't. Never. No, that's an understood treating you.
Speaker 3 (01:02:55):
He made a big one, cut into four pieces. I'll
be eating one of the four. And I gave you
all time.
Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
Thank you man, thank you very.
Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Officially the nicest person here.
Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
Intually being the nicest person here not a big achievement.
Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
No, it's like being the ugliest person in.
Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
Something.
Speaker 4 (01:03:12):
I don't know a lot of ugly people.
Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
Yeah, be prepared for something. Greg's very critical of gifts.
He's no, I feel bad.
Speaker 4 (01:03:22):
I just want you to say, I know you really
want both of those. You can have mine.
Speaker 5 (01:03:26):
I'll take.
Speaker 3 (01:03:27):
Don't be don't don't look at don't look at gift
horse in the mouth.
Speaker 4 (01:03:30):
No, Hendry, this is when he was a little kid. Again,
you're you're the you're the woman in the neighborhood that
brought Greg a birthday cake. It good and and you
think you.
Speaker 3 (01:03:40):
On the side, Yeah, you could have kept goal there.
I brought that.
Speaker 4 (01:03:48):
I thought that Ana Conda took it downb on my plate.
Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
First of all, Ana said like, big lizard.
Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
What's the big lizard?
Speaker 6 (01:03:59):
And go on?
Speaker 4 (01:03:59):
I said the wrong thing.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
All right, So what's in there is pork?
Speaker 4 (01:04:03):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
I made last night pork chops organic.
Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
Organic, Yes, what's organic?
Speaker 6 (01:04:09):
Walks on the side, organic ground beef, and then organic eggs,
and then caso and then cheese.
Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
And I put some salcea on there and nooked it up.
And if you don't eat it, we're not friends.
Speaker 2 (01:04:25):
Bottom line.
Speaker 6 (01:04:26):
Although it is I'm used to the burrito format. I
did it pizza style and made you know, I would
call it style. There you go, that's much more accurate culturally.
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Please you know, you know how it feels to be done.
Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
Yeah, you might need a fork, is what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (01:04:44):
It's it's it's that level of sincere like wet food.
Speaker 10 (01:04:48):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
I didn't really have a little way. I didn't have
a breakfast plan right now. The things I've tried haven't
quite done it.
Speaker 4 (01:04:54):
This will do awesome you.
Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
I know you're probably pretty critical of the bold egg too,
aren't you.
Speaker 4 (01:04:59):
Buddy.
Speaker 2 (01:05:00):
I'd like to say a little harder ball.
Speaker 3 (01:05:03):
You can't say no and then say yes, it looks
really good, buddy, you better eat it.
Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
Here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
He didn't want to do this at all.
Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
It's just yesterday he took some Greg.
Speaker 4 (01:05:16):
This is not the way you take a gift. You're
the worst gift I've ever seen. I've never seen anybody.
Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
You're a blessing. I'm excited about this.
Speaker 4 (01:05:24):
You can make somebody feel pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
This is you know, it's really hard to and if
I can get past that egg thing, this is gonna
be good.
Speaker 2 (01:05:33):
You know. That's what he did. It was is a
blessing dust and we're taking it from now. I'm excited
about it. Somebody sound like it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:41):
Somebody says, as soon as Greg bis into it, Adam
is going to say he made those in uranus, it's
gonna be something something.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
Trump we go don't ever say I never gave him nothing.
Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:05:51):
I'm never giving you anything again.
Speaker 5 (01:05:53):
This is it?
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
This is very nice. Yeah, little Trump update here. Look,
this is the update we could.
Speaker 3 (01:05:59):
Gregg's actually going for it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
Great down, I'm not on the air. Isn't that pretty good?
Speaker 10 (01:06:02):
Greg?
Speaker 4 (01:06:03):
Okay, see there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
I need to hit it in Mark wablam right now,
tell us what this is like.
Speaker 4 (01:06:08):
This is like the granch again, and Greg's heart grew
three size and steady.
Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
No, no, I tell you this is more like green
Eggs and ham. I do so Trump, Greg, just what
you and you I know you would hope for this,
just like you'd hope to you make you something for breakfast.
Somebody asked Trump what he thought about Rosie O'donnald leaving
the country and.
Speaker 2 (01:06:27):
Going to Darland.
Speaker 1 (01:06:28):
This is as good as it gets. I'm so thankful
that somebody asked him this.
Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
Don't and don't miss. The Prime Minister of Ireland is
sitting right beside it.
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
So much better. All right, here we go.
Speaker 6 (01:06:38):
So the reporter is going to start out Prime Minister
of Ireland John, So here you go.
Speaker 1 (01:06:43):
Ireland is known for very happy, fun loving people.
Speaker 8 (01:06:47):
Great out your getting in.
Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
This roop right now that I've mat why the world.
Speaker 8 (01:06:51):
Would you let Rosie o'donald move to old he's just
going lower your head.
Speaker 4 (01:06:56):
Trump, thank you.
Speaker 8 (01:06:57):
I like that question means you know.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
You know who she is.
Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
You better know?
Speaker 1 (01:07:12):
What about who's the comedian asking the question?
Speaker 2 (01:07:17):
I know you're better off not knowing. Irish guy was
two blocked, didn't know what to do.
Speaker 3 (01:07:22):
He didn't know.
Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
That's why that's what Trump said, You're better off not knowing.
Speaker 6 (01:07:26):
You know, when we played that video of her looking angry,
angry and miserable in Ireland, it made me so sad
because I was a kid when her show was like
at its peak.
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
You'll remember she had a talk show.
Speaker 4 (01:07:39):
She shoot little things in the crowd.
Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
She would shoot the little coushballs. Yeah yeah, crowd k
o s h. Thank you, thank you, And I love
that show.
Speaker 6 (01:07:50):
When I was a kid, it was just like a fun,
stupid daytime talk show.
Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
And to see her being so miserable now just so sad.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
Well, when she went after Tom Seilck, it all fell
apart from there. Yeah, that's what she came.
Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
She went from being the fun loving, uh you know,
kind of fun ant that everybody likes, you know, and
then she turned into the angry lesbian, and it all
went south.
Speaker 3 (01:08:09):
She had that whole spread of Tom's and Rosie o'donald.
She had that whole stick with Tom Cruise like she
had a crush on.
Speaker 4 (01:08:16):
Now we know that was impossible. That was just a yes,
it was great acting, great acting.
Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
I've said, stick and cush and not running any problem
so far.
Speaker 7 (01:08:27):
Well, she was.
Speaker 4 (01:08:28):
Good, Greg's eating the sandwich here, good shoes, she was
good in the league of their own.
Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
Yes, very good, funny, funny.
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
I didn't have.
Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
Any Rosie o'donald issue at all, and can even agree
to disagree when she was kind and fun and not
so bitter and angry. It goes back to what Nelson
Mandela try to teach you. Everybody bitterness about people, it's
like you drinking poison expecting them to die.
Speaker 4 (01:08:54):
It just poisons you.
Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
And she's a.
Speaker 1 (01:08:57):
Great example of that. She's just turned into an angry,
bitter person. And you know, who cares what we agree
or disagree on. You can still be an enjoyable human
being to be around.
Speaker 5 (01:09:07):
Top of the hour.
Speaker 4 (01:09:09):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 8 (01:09:11):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
Okay, so speedy, you know it is kind of on
the New lineup. You know, we all take on different roles,
and some of those roles are developing, y'all. Speedy has
kind of become our investigative reporter. Let me tell you
the story how I researched it, and after the way
he covered, the way he covered the Gene Hackening story,
(01:09:41):
I thought he was ken. As a matter of fact,
he's actually there's talk he could replace the gall On dateline. Yeah, yes,
all about that, but all appearances, Gene Hackman and his
wife had died on natural causes. But what the investigators
found out next we change everything.
Speaker 2 (01:10:03):
That's so good, So change everything.
Speaker 3 (01:10:07):
I see.
Speaker 6 (01:10:08):
I'm having trouble finding this clip. But you guys, remember
when we were talking about this really way early on,
as we were going to break, I said, I said,
I think, guys, I think there might be a rat
in the woodpile. You do, and then it ended up
being a rat, rat illness, the wife.
Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
The wife. That's what I've moved on to Speedy's next story.
Speaker 3 (01:10:33):
I'm you're right, though, I was just talking about Gene Hackman.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
But we did bring up Gene Hackman, so you were
staying rhythm.
Speaker 3 (01:10:43):
That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 12 (01:10:44):
What Adler said next right, covering the Gene Hackman story
on the Rick Burgess Show, which seemed like an off
hand comment, and one Chris Eddie van Handler.
Speaker 2 (01:11:00):
Would go on to be quite profound.
Speaker 1 (01:11:03):
Prophetic even anyway, investigators wonder if he knew something and
needed to be investigated. All right, so this is the
other gruesome story had. It's hard, but it's in charge
of all gruesome stories. Well, it's awful, is what it is. Yeah,
and this is the somebody's already text you asking if
(01:11:23):
we're going to cover it, and we are. Now this
involves Kimberly Sullivan. All right, go ahead, reporter, what.
Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
You think about what you have been doing? Unless you're
you know, too young to even know, you know, what's
my last twenty years been like? But for twenty years,
what have.
Speaker 7 (01:11:41):
You been doing?
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
Think of all the things you've been doing working here
for the last twenty years.
Speaker 4 (01:11:45):
I didn't even know that, all right, So well I'm sixty,
I was forty.
Speaker 2 (01:11:49):
Oh well yeah, okay, imagine being locked in a room
for twenty years and not being able to get out.
And that's what this woman's been a long twenty years.
This woman that you just named Rick has been arrested
and charged with holding her step son captive for twenty years,
captive for twenty years. She's fifty six. She was arraigned
(01:12:10):
on Wednesday, and she's got all kinds of charges up
against her here. But the thirty two year old now
step son, who hadn't been named, was he set fire
to a tiny room upstairs in their home from hopes
to somehow get out of there. And when first responders
pulled up and they found this man who just weighed
(01:12:32):
listened to this sixty eight pounds.
Speaker 4 (01:12:34):
Oh lord, they.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Said, it's images of someone you would see at a
death camp.
Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
Just total horror.
Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
Let me ask you this, So twenty years so when
he first went in there, he wasn't sixty something pounds.
Speaker 4 (01:12:47):
Couldn't he take her?
Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
Well, well, Greg, I mean he's.
Speaker 4 (01:12:50):
Been eleven, I still could have took her.
Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
He's being treated. He's he was confined into it by
a what is it, a six by nine room at
eleven at eleven years old, with no heat and no
air conditioning. And when he got there he told police,
I just want my freedom. You have to like that,
(01:13:19):
he said, and like an investigation has now led authority
to believe the man had been held captive for twenty
years and during prolonged abuse, starvation, severe neglect, inhumane treatment.
And all of this was from her family. His family.
The dad died last year. The step is a stupid
(01:13:43):
He had no medical treatment, no dental care, so that
it was in the last twenty years. And uh, the
authorities are saying, this is literally a horror movie.
Speaker 5 (01:13:52):
It is what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
The conditions. So he was just he admitted to the
to the folks that got there, the responders, that he
did find a way to set fire to the room
he was in, knowing that if nobody came, he had
just burned it. Yeah, and then when they got there
they discovered the situation. She I can't even believe is
being held on a three hundred thousand dollars bond. How
(01:14:14):
that's even how she's even eligible for that, I have
no idea. But she was arraigned on Wednesday. She is
now saying that she's innocent. She said that she is
adamant about these things. Allegations aren't true six the facts
of the case or I mean, it's obvious. And this
goes back to to his elementary school. They went back
(01:14:36):
and talked to like the principal and stuff when he
was young, and they said, we had we we sent
this up the chain to authorities that they needed to
look into this. He would come to school and he
would be starving, he was underweight. We'd see him getting
food out of the trash can. Teachers would even bring
food for him to eat for like lunch, and then
he stopped coming to school, and so they were like, Okay,
(01:14:57):
what's the deal. Where is he? Then there was rumors
he transferred to another school and then he would start
being homeschooled. Well, he's been locked in that room ever since.
Speaker 7 (01:15:07):
Since.
Speaker 1 (01:15:07):
Yeah, how about this the principal. To our reporter Speedy's point,
the principal said, we told them there was something wrong.
We knew it, we reported it, and not a blank
thing was done. We knew it's not normal for a
kid to be trying to eat out of the trash can.
(01:15:27):
And when he disappeared and stopped coming, we told authorities,
y'all got to look into this.
Speaker 4 (01:15:33):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
Well, through the cracks is what he did.
Speaker 7 (01:15:35):
Rick.
Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
What's odd is so you're telling me that his dad
married this woman who became his stepmom. And to Greg's point,
if he just now died in the last few years.
Speaker 4 (01:15:47):
He's aware of what they're doing.
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
Yeah, yeah, what could possibly be the motivation to take
an eleven year old, put him in a room and
hold him captive in there for twenty years? What could
possibly be the the motivation?
Speaker 4 (01:16:03):
For what reason?
Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
What?
Speaker 7 (01:16:04):
What?
Speaker 1 (01:16:05):
And it says here that from time to time he
would get two cups of water. Yeah, and most of
the time he had to drink out of the toilet,
out of the toy he had access to a toilet.
Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
Yes, and there's images of this room. Now it's after
the fire, so understand that. But it's just a mess.
I don't know how you set the fire.
Speaker 3 (01:16:21):
I wanted to take off that my cross necklace.
Speaker 1 (01:16:25):
Well, yes, this is another example where Bible versus on
on bumper stickers and neck and cross necklaces don't mean
a whole.
Speaker 6 (01:16:33):
Lot to turn it upside down, more like, Yeah, the
state the evil step mother is a understate.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
She's not helping the image of stepmother. Connecticut is the
state for.
Speaker 2 (01:16:45):
Those weird up there in a lot of times.
Speaker 1 (01:16:48):
So I'm talking about this situation they're saying, they're saying
that this.
Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
Is just here, here we go. He lit a fire,
with some hand sanitizer, some paper from a printer, and
he lit the fire while he was locked in that
room from from the outside. See here go, he lit
that fire while he was locked in that room from
the outside. You know how you slow down? You want
to go again? I reading this right? How did he
do that? He lit that thunt?
Speaker 4 (01:17:16):
He's still got to have a flame. Yeah, yeah, so
or unless he did like boyscouts.
Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
So to your point, Greg, I'm eleven, I may not
can take everybody. So by the time he goes through
puberty and gets a little bigger and stronger.
Speaker 4 (01:17:28):
Is he's so weak? I yes, I've been starving him.
Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
If you're sixteen, and most of it so his dad
probably handling.
Speaker 4 (01:17:35):
If they've been starving you for even five years, you've
kind of lost.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
Yes, he was sixty eight pounds, thirty two years old
and sixty eight pounds. He wasn't strong enough to do
much of anything.
Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
But when I'm thinking about this, step mom now claiming innocence.
Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
But they but they, but they found the person in
your home. It's called mentally insane.
Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
And he's telling everybody in the room, Yeah, he's alive
and talking. How can you possibly be innocent. He's in
your house. Uh, he just wanted his freedom.
Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
I want to be right back.
Speaker 8 (01:18:06):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:18:14):
So we keep talking about all the technology that is available,
uh these days, and there's so many things that people
can do, and you know, young people can have their
own studios and their own podcast and but but there's
one thing that we also are saying to the same
saying at the same time. There seems to be actually
(01:18:36):
a downturn in creativity.
Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:18:40):
We pretty much keep on rehashing the same old things
over and over again.
Speaker 1 (01:18:46):
We keep we keep on taking things that worked in
the past and just repackaging them and doing them again.
Speaker 5 (01:18:53):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:18:53):
And I'll get deeper on this story after we look
at this this teaser, maybe eve when we come back,
because I think the teaser will put us in a
conversation too. Now, there's certain things that when you do this,
I think you can't touch. And I hate to say
it to you, Greg, but in our videos today Adler
(01:19:14):
or Speedy one has put that there is going to
be in an attempt for spinal tap too.
Speaker 4 (01:19:21):
Yeah, I've heard that. I don't know about this. I
don't know that you tamper with spinal tap.
Speaker 2 (01:19:27):
I mean I think are they already filming currently?
Speaker 4 (01:19:31):
There's a teaser.
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
We have a teaser. Yeah, we're still alive. Who's still alive?
Speaker 3 (01:19:38):
All three of them?
Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
Christopher Guest is still alive? Right, yeah, yeah he is?
Speaker 4 (01:19:42):
And then Lenny Michael m his name is, and did
the guy that plays the bass player with the short
guy you know he's in all he did? He go
on in? I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:19:54):
You've got Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer as
the big three, right it was?
Speaker 4 (01:20:01):
Yeah, and of course their drummer was always getting killed. Yeah,
but but are we about to see and hear this?
Speaker 5 (01:20:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:20:08):
And this is not a trailer. It's a teaser so different.
Speaker 6 (01:20:13):
It doesn't give you much. It's just a crowd roaring,
some audio and.
Speaker 4 (01:20:17):
The original I love the originals.
Speaker 6 (01:20:21):
So he first mockumentary I ever saw, So you got
your Marshall amp.
Speaker 3 (01:20:26):
They're plugging in to eleven and exactly Rick, exactly.
Speaker 6 (01:20:30):
So here they are turning up every knob to eleven.
Speaker 4 (01:20:34):
It goes to eleven.
Speaker 13 (01:20:35):
And then the very last knob actually goes to infinity.
Speaker 2 (01:20:49):
September.
Speaker 1 (01:20:51):
Okay, you first them if I'm wrong but they actually
play right the actors. I think so, I think they're
actually playing sing that line, stuff that line, Well, couldn't
you just make ten?
Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
Just be louder? But it goes to eleven.
Speaker 6 (01:21:08):
When they can't find the state and they're just running
around backstage trying to get to the states.
Speaker 4 (01:21:13):
What about stony, that little tiny stonehenge?
Speaker 2 (01:21:16):
Oh, yes, that's good inge. But so I guess you
could take them.
Speaker 4 (01:21:23):
I guess because everybody is doing tours when they're older.
I mean that is the norm.
Speaker 1 (01:21:31):
If you took that and said, hey, we can't if
we want to make any money, don't know what to
make money is to go back on tour again. And
they do some sort of comeback. Yeah, but can you
capture it?
Speaker 4 (01:21:40):
Can you?
Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
Can you grab that lightning?
Speaker 3 (01:21:44):
I think they can.
Speaker 6 (01:21:46):
I wonder if they're gonna I wonder if they're gonna
do my favorite song, big Bottom.
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Yeah, we got them, we think about it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:54):
That was before political correctness, like somebody on the text
line saying, isn't this like trying to do blazing saddles?
Speaker 2 (01:22:00):
You can't do that anymore? Do you think?
Speaker 4 (01:22:02):
Can you do this?
Speaker 13 (01:22:03):
An?
Speaker 2 (01:22:03):
I thank you, big body?
Speaker 8 (01:22:05):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:22:13):
This thought a little bit about you know, it seems
like there's nothing really creative and new and and so
there's a guy and he's a pretty good follow I
see him out there, but people, you know, are reposting him.
I don't follow him, but anyway, it's a guy named
Clint Russell. And I can't speak to all the other
things that he does, but I was just looking at
(01:22:33):
this and he was talking about he was working the hypothesis,
and I found it interesting because I've kind of noticed
the same trend. And ad Or you can definitely wait
on this. And Greg, I know you too, because it's
got a music example, but it kind of applies to
more things with that, he said, So we have a
generation that.
Speaker 4 (01:22:51):
Grew up with things like Guitar Hero. He's using guitar
playing as an example of a bigger point. He said.
Speaker 1 (01:22:57):
They grew up with a guitar Hero and YouTube tutorials,
you know, as many as you want to get okay,
And he said, and this has created thousands of guitarists
that are the most technically gifted in history. But which
is a smelly subject. They can't create original music. All
(01:23:21):
they can really do is malk other guitar players and
show that they can basically be impressionist to perfection of
the technical gifts of other guitar players and other people's songs.
His point is, if we have some of the most
gifted guitarists as far as this many at one time,
(01:23:41):
because of all the training available to them, why aren't
there any new great bands? Why are we not hearing
any really good created music by these guitarists who really
are quite gifted, maybe some of the most gifted ever.
But all they can really do is perfectly play someone
else's music.
Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (01:24:01):
Yeah, and and and I think that there's a lot
of that out there because you have access to so much,
so much. But the thing you have access to are
things already created by other people, and you can learn
to play them over and over and all that and
practice and do all that. But yeah, it's nothing that
you It ain't like you just learned the chords and
(01:24:23):
then you wrote something.
Speaker 4 (01:24:24):
Yeah, you went you you mentioned this one day on
the show, and you're right. I really don't think when
it comes to creativity, listening to something something be technically
perfect is really the goal.
Speaker 1 (01:24:36):
Where where where's the where's the heart of it? Where
where's the rawness of it? Where you know, like what
swy you and I like to hear live musicians play live.
It's not always perfect, ye, and but but there's a
I mean, I will say this, and I know, Dad,
I've heard you agree with this.
Speaker 4 (01:24:53):
You look at up if you just go over to
the rock side, you look at a led Zeppelin.
Speaker 1 (01:25:00):
Jimmy Page at times sounds almost sloppy, but but but
he's got these riffs in this creativity there, yeah, and
all that.
Speaker 4 (01:25:11):
So what what we what they're what?
Speaker 1 (01:25:13):
I think his apothesis on the stones, Yeah, his apothesis
is creativity doesn't really come from robots. And some like
robots are very impressive and they can be perfect, but
they're not very creative. And we're and with all this
AI and tutorials and guitar hero just tell about guitar,
(01:25:34):
but you could apply this so many things that everybody.
Can you realize think about this. We have people that
are like they're making a living just basically showing you
what they know, which that's fine, but like.
Speaker 4 (01:25:52):
Are we are?
Speaker 2 (01:25:54):
Where where is the creativity?
Speaker 1 (01:25:56):
You would think with all this perfect training that's now available,
that new creative, good music would be everywhere, and it
really isn't. Most of it is just copy in what's
already been done. I can't think of the last and
I'm old, so I'm out of touch. And before y'all
started sending me, I know you are younger people that
will dispute this, but I can't remember the last great
(01:26:18):
band that I'm not.
Speaker 4 (01:26:20):
I'm not talking about you know.
Speaker 1 (01:26:21):
Just what I'm talking about, like a Guns n' Roses,
how big they got, you know, that's the you can
or even the Beatles. You know the Beatles is weird
is that we make you like them, not like them.
We joked around about that the other day. But you
can't argue against their creativity.
Speaker 2 (01:26:36):
But I just I know when we first heard Greta
van Fleet, I thought, oh my goodness, and then they
got weird.
Speaker 1 (01:26:43):
But there are talented yeah, but you've got just like
this person saying, have you seen the eleven year old shred?
I have, but I haven't seen the eleven year old
write a song. Yeah, he's note for note. Eleven year
old can can can mock somebody like like you know,
someone who does impressions, but I've never seen that is
the had written an original song. We're I think we're
(01:27:04):
damaging the creativity part of the brain.
Speaker 2 (01:27:07):
Yeah, I agree, You're right.
Speaker 1 (01:27:09):
Yeah, because like I said, I can go there and
it can show me note for note how to play it.
Speaker 3 (01:27:13):
I'm so glad you mentioned guitar here and here it is.
I found it.
Speaker 6 (01:27:15):
Here's a guy doing a Dragon Force song at two
times speed on guitar hero and tons of people are
watching him.
Speaker 5 (01:27:28):
And he's sitting with those buttons. What good is that?
Speaker 1 (01:27:35):
Boy?
Speaker 9 (01:27:35):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (01:27:35):
But so he looks the kind of person now that
might locks some man in room for twenty years.
Speaker 2 (01:27:39):
I can he write a song?
Speaker 7 (01:27:45):
Right?
Speaker 6 (01:27:45):
And also, what's the fun in doing it at two x?
You don't even get the vibe of the song. Here's
another example. This this female here, she looks pretty young,
and here she is ripping how do you.
Speaker 3 (01:27:58):
Say it, greg ing Bay, I'm saying ing vay Moustein whatever. Yeah,
here she is ripping that to.
Speaker 1 (01:28:04):
PC's Again that's not her music and LSE's And at
one point in time, Ing vay Moustein was, you know, whatever,
the best in the world.
Speaker 6 (01:28:18):
And now you've got young girls being able to do it,
which is great, but you don't see good new music
being produced. To you guys's point, and this is happening
oddly across the board with many things, not just guitar,
but you see it. People have an unbelievable access to
information now, so they can get good at things very quickly,
but the creativity doesn't come along with that. You see
(01:28:39):
it in chess, you see it in jiu jitsu, you
see in basketball, you see.
Speaker 5 (01:28:42):
It in football.
Speaker 6 (01:28:43):
Uh it's it's it's a weird new information world that
we live in, and there are good things that come
from it, but there are things that we're losing to well.
Speaker 1 (01:28:51):
And it's funny you met you showed that last video.
That's the very video that this guy's commenting on, so
so that in his post, and I know he talked
about how tically gifted she is, but can she write it?
Speaker 4 (01:29:02):
Can she write an original song?
Speaker 3 (01:29:03):
She can shred? But what boy?
Speaker 4 (01:29:06):
And I can only take so much of that.
Speaker 1 (01:29:09):
Yeah, to me, I want to hear that you like
the better guitar solos, like the double solo at the
end of Hotel California and they play the double golf
each other and stuff like that, and then that's ninety
miles an hour well, it's amazing and it's impressive, but
as far as enjoying the music, I like a little
more melodic. Well, it's one of the things that I'm
even telling, you know, the kids I've got that are
in the world of creativity, is I'm telling the son
(01:29:32):
who wants to produce and does short movies already doing
it and all this and wants to go on to
one day.
Speaker 4 (01:29:38):
Do I said, please, will you just please give us.
Speaker 1 (01:29:40):
A movie that I love that you can do some
panoramic camera work or use it.
Speaker 4 (01:29:48):
Of course he wouldn't. He's not really into all the
modern technology and the green screens and all that. But
I don't want to just be impressed visually.
Speaker 1 (01:29:55):
Can you please put together a movie that has an
intriguing story, that has really really creative dialogue, and has
characters that we all would just are really interested in.
When was the last time that there was a unique
character in a movie that you thought, man, that that
character right there was really interesting, was really interesting. It
(01:30:19):
now just seems like a bunch of random quick edits.
The story is fragmented, and it doesn't follow the way.
Speaker 4 (01:30:28):
We were all taught to write stories.
Speaker 2 (01:30:30):
The dialogue is just weird.
Speaker 4 (01:30:32):
That doesn't make it creative if you can hear it.
Speaker 1 (01:30:34):
Yeah, and most of it always pushes some boundary of
how weird we can be, even in a nasty way
or in a propose, I'm trying to shock you more
than I'm trying to entertain you or even cause you
to think, to ponder, to consider, to be impacted by it.
It's just like when we get to even the video
(01:30:58):
part where it can be blurry or you it shows
like half your face and seen the movie and I
like the movie with Denzel Washington Man on Fire. I
haven't you ever seen that?
Speaker 7 (01:31:08):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:31:08):
It's good, Yeah, but what about all the weird camera
stuff of that. It's just like you also, it looks
like a negative or something, you know, like a photo. Yes,
and then it'll it'll go.
Speaker 4 (01:31:19):
And I mean it's a great movie with a good
storyline that's rough, gets mad and it's not just a business.
Speaker 1 (01:31:26):
But my point is, but just show me the movie.
I mean, you need to watch it and just see
how weird the video part of it is. I don't
want a headache from the way you're using the cameras.
And I really would love to hear some interesting dialogue
a provocative story and characters that I would love to
see again. Yeah not not people that I don't even
(01:31:49):
remember when I drive off from the theater or away
from the TV.
Speaker 8 (01:31:52):
This is the Rick Burger's Show.
Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Some some weird audio and video for us.
Speaker 1 (01:32:02):
To unpack a little bit today. Uh and does it?
Does everybody remember? The an adder will probably pick up
if time allows. I like the look of of seven
and uh A and B. I haven't really looked over C.
But it's got some potential too. But but anyway, so
but I want to go to five here. So we
(01:32:24):
know Anthony Mackie. He he is a I enjoy his work.
He's a good actor. And you know he now got
to do a new Captain America movie where he wants
the sidekick now becomes the main Captain America.
Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
And uh, it didn't do that well. Of course, Marvel's.
Speaker 1 (01:32:42):
Having some issues anyway, they've it's like they they're they're
there's trying to I think they went to too many
third tier comic book, comic book geek. Only people know
who some of these people are. I think when they
were staying more mainstream, those movies seem to do well.
Speaker 4 (01:32:58):
And again back to what I just said. Minute.
Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
They're also really well done.
Speaker 1 (01:33:02):
Now they think if they can get enough explosions and whatever,
and say, here's another comic book character that we're all
supposed to go see it. But it's a weird thing
that this actor says. And you said, out of these
are NFL players.
Speaker 3 (01:33:15):
Yeah, he's this.
Speaker 6 (01:33:18):
He's on this podcast and we've played clips from it before.
You guys are going to recognize these players. I just
forget the name of the podcast, but he's oh the
pivot there, it is right on the screen.
Speaker 2 (01:33:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:33:25):
Yeah, we've talked about this quite quite a few times,
or we've played a couple of clips.
Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
I gotta get secondhanded from this.
Speaker 3 (01:33:31):
And it's just.
Speaker 6 (01:33:34):
I don't know if the NFL players agree with him
as they say it. One nods an agreement, but I
don't think the others agree. And see what you guys say.
Speaker 14 (01:33:43):
What I realized yesterday thinking about it. We're lying to
our kids, though, and I think that's a big problem
in our community. We tell our kids that, and this
is fresh on my heart, Like I literally just came
to this conclusion last night. We tell our kids if
they do right and they make the good grades and
they go to the programs and they will become successful.
Speaker 2 (01:34:03):
If you work hard enough, your work will be paid off.
And that's not true. Success is given.
Speaker 4 (01:34:11):
It's not her.
Speaker 2 (01:34:12):
Oh, because you can.
Speaker 14 (01:34:13):
Be the most brilliant if one person don't tap you.
Speaker 2 (01:34:18):
Each one of y'all, there were people who.
Speaker 14 (01:34:20):
Could hit harder, who could catch better, who could run faster,
But somebody said you you're the one, and the other
fifty behind you fell off, you know what I mean?
And because of that, I don't know what that what
that emotion or that feeling is.
Speaker 1 (01:34:43):
Listen, disagree. Yeah, I agree that life's not fair and
that good hard work and doing the right thing doesn't
mean your life's going to go smoothly. And there's a
biblical concept there. But I totally disagree because, like I
think about in the entertainment business that he's in, and
(01:35:04):
it would apply to all entertainment, including athletics. What he's
trying to say there if he's not careful. But I
promise you that if these same.
Speaker 4 (01:35:13):
Athletes are actors, go to auditions or go to tryouts
and they haven't worked hard, and they haven't banged on
their craft and they don't know what they're doing.
Speaker 1 (01:35:26):
Yes, the selection begins when they select from people who
have all worked hard, not somebody who didn't work hard.
Gets all of a sudden, I think I like this guy.
He didn't do very good in the tryout. He didn't
seem to know his lines, he doesn't seem to know anything,
But I just kind of like him.
Speaker 4 (01:35:44):
I'm just gonna randomly pick him. No, No, you know
you're not gonna win much.
Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
No, if that's how you pick, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:35:52):
I mean a lot of times they'll look and say,
like in athletics, you're a great center, but we're not
looking for a sinner.
Speaker 4 (01:36:02):
But they're not gonna then go.
Speaker 1 (01:36:04):
But if they're looking for a guard, they're not going
to go over to five guards and say three of
these guys worked really hard, the fourth one is out
of shape, can't make the blocks, But we're just gonna
randomly pick him over y'all. No, we all may get
selected from other people who also worked hard. But saying
that hard work and doing the right thing doesn't give
(01:36:25):
you an advantage, that's total hogwall hogwash, and that nothing
is earned. No, as far as people who do well,
they didn't earn it. It was just some random life
choice that they're lucky. Now, do people find themselves in
the right place at the right time. Yeah, but you
still had to make a play even when you found
(01:36:47):
yourself in the right place at the right time. Oh,
you're exactly what we're looking for. Why am I exactly
what you're looking for? Because I'm prepared and I'm doing
it the way you want it done. Now, you're right
about knowing people and getting a shot, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:37:01):
And something on the text said maybe he was talking
about Ronnie James.
Speaker 4 (01:37:04):
Well that's that's here today.
Speaker 2 (01:37:06):
But you're you're spot on with it, Rick, he's so
far off. I'm glad he wasn't mentoring my boys.
Speaker 3 (01:37:11):
That's not a message that kids need to.
Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
No, that's not the message that you really have no
control whether you work or not.
Speaker 4 (01:37:17):
It may not matter.
Speaker 1 (01:37:18):
Well, this is more that porporal pitiful me. You know,
nothing's fair. And I think he's got a on this one.
He's got a little bit of a you know, like
a dog's been hit by a car and he's sore
and nobody needs to pet him right now. He got
to be Captain America and it didn't do well, and
he's kind of got a little sorry about it.
Speaker 2 (01:37:35):
Well, you kind of brought up something there their movie,
they're they're pre movie media tour. It's a little off.
I mean, you think like some of their last few movies.
You remember it's Captain America. He said something about America
is not great or something to that effect, and and
he's all, wait a minute, it's just some of the
pre movie hype is is they're awful. Little bit maybe
they just need to tell everybody, y'all hang on, we'll
(01:37:56):
do the promotion because some of them. What's this other
one that that was out cinder?
Speaker 4 (01:38:01):
What was it?
Speaker 2 (01:38:02):
I forget she went off the deep.
Speaker 1 (01:38:04):
But the bottom line of why you're telling us that,
he's trying to say, if we don't support what he's done,
it's not because it's not any good or we didn't
think it was all that great. It's because somehow, deep
down we didn't choose him because we have a prejudice.
That's what he's saying. All right, let's go to Bronnie.
Here's Colin Cowherd in seven A. He's about to lay
(01:38:26):
out how he feels about this o'bronni deal and.
Speaker 2 (01:38:29):
Don't got in trouble about this.
Speaker 4 (01:38:30):
Yeah, here he goes.
Speaker 2 (01:38:32):
In the NBA.
Speaker 10 (01:38:32):
You have to pretend that Bronni's an NBA player because
otherwise you'll upset the King. And remember, he is a
six to two guard. That's a non point guard. I've
never seen that existing in the current NBA. And go
back twenty years. He is one for sixteen in the
NBA from the floor, all for seven on threes. He's
not an NBA player. He was not a great high
school player. He was a good high school player. He
(01:38:54):
wasn't a good college player. He was a college player.
And he's not an NBA player. And he may be
a great kid. I'm sure he is. Lebron's a nice guy.
Speaker 2 (01:39:00):
I've met him.
Speaker 10 (01:39:01):
Can we stop pretending on this? Tyrese Max, he's a
great player and cooked him and you rushed him up
because hey, he had a good G League game.
Speaker 4 (01:39:07):
Oh god?
Speaker 10 (01:39:08):
And I think of the many reasons the NFL is
separated from the NBA. Is the NFL is a serious league.
The games matter, it's adults, it's men, it's real conversation.
We're not gonna see Jalen Hurt's son wedged into the
Eagles to play running back. No, it's Saquon Barklay he's
better than anybody. Grown up conversations. Don't be terrified walk
on eggshells. Last night came in three turnovers zero for five,
(01:39:32):
look terrified, nervous, and the sixers you can't.
Speaker 2 (01:39:35):
Fool players went right after him.
Speaker 10 (01:39:38):
This continues to be an unseerious story.
Speaker 6 (01:39:43):
Wow, do not realize that stat on the six to
two guard.
Speaker 3 (01:39:48):
That's a non point guard that's never happened in the end.
Speaker 1 (01:39:51):
And yeah, yeah, I love what he says. In the
NFL You're not gonna pull this stunned right and h wow. First,
then I go back to those NFL players. I'm with you, Adler.
I think their nods were very They.
Speaker 2 (01:40:06):
Didn't know what to do.
Speaker 3 (01:40:06):
Wait a second, wait second.
Speaker 1 (01:40:08):
Yeah, okay, yeah, so Padler, why are you taking us
back to COVID in this this other one?
Speaker 3 (01:40:18):
Well, just because we hit the five year anniversary.
Speaker 4 (01:40:20):
Yeah, you don't need to settle.
Speaker 1 (01:40:22):
March is when it all starts shutting down, buddy yep
in twenty twenty, I remember Church started to Yes it did.
Speaker 4 (01:40:28):
Thanks for that reminder that that was a that was
there for that first obstacle that I thought, okay, good,
the Lord is in this because apparently there's gonna be
a huge attacking us.
Speaker 2 (01:40:35):
Yeah, so so here we go.
Speaker 4 (01:40:38):
This is uh remember they shut down the sports world
and it started at Oklahoma City before the game, right
before the game started.
Speaker 6 (01:40:45):
Yes, yes, March eleventh, twenty twenty, the Jazz are set
to play the Thunder in Oklahoma City. Right before the
tip off, players are on the court warming up when
officials found out that Donnie excuse me what that rooty
Golbert had preliminarily tested positive for COVID nineteen. He's a
(01:41:05):
Utah Jazz Center. So now everybody's on the court trying
to figure out what's going on, and uh, it's just
wild to see what's happening the Thunder.
Speaker 15 (01:41:16):
The final eight team will play USA two more times
than both of those will be here.
Speaker 5 (01:41:21):
In Oklahoma City.
Speaker 15 (01:41:22):
No owners conferring your prior to the start.
Speaker 5 (01:41:28):
Of this game.
Speaker 15 (01:41:28):
Officials players lake conference at this trying to get something
to work out Chris.
Speaker 1 (01:41:35):
So they're trying to figure out what they're what they're
supposed to do. Now that the player is Oh wow, question.
Speaker 4 (01:41:40):
All the pay for the BAALT tickets arena's I mean,
they're ready to.
Speaker 2 (01:41:43):
Go, you know, how do you right?
Speaker 5 (01:41:45):
And his defense.
Speaker 4 (01:41:46):
On The announcers are still trying to tell basketball because
I don't know what's going on.
Speaker 5 (01:41:50):
Yes, they don't have to services by Rudy Gobert. How
does that change.
Speaker 6 (01:41:55):
That's who they're talking about, Rudy. They're talking about Rudy
not being in Uh. Players are escorted off the port.
Speaker 2 (01:42:03):
Crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:42:04):
Everybody's standing around like, what what's even going on?
Speaker 4 (01:42:06):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:42:07):
People in place at it? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, look at nobody. No,
everybody's just sitting on top of each other. Right, he's
right there. Everybody's in each other's face, leaning in.
Speaker 4 (01:42:16):
What you got what? I don't know what we're doing.
