This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Here we go.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
A brand new hour is underway, and we're glad that
you are here for another Rick Burgess show in another hour.
A lot to do as we all go forward. As
you heard, the gang is all here. We'll be updating
you on the stories of the day. We'll get your
phone calls in here. Surely you got the new numbers now,
don't you? One eight eight eight six Big box V
(00:48):
as in Victor had an interesting conversation with someone yesterday
about that eight eight eight six two four four eight
six nine, because you can text with that exact same number,
and we do see those text here in the studio yesterday.
The text option ran very, very smooth. So I think
all that is resolved. So here are some things that
(01:10):
we know are going to happen today, Well Lord willing,
because they haven't happened yet, but they're planned to be
happened as far as we have a plan for it.
That would be guess David Pollack, homie G. He'll be
with us today. We'll talk college football. Notre Dame is in,
We'll chat with him. There's some interesting stories involving the
(01:33):
college football playoff, including something involving his former team.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
The Dogs.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
So David Pollack will be with us coming up later
in the program. Also, Granger Smith is scheduled to be
with us today. Country music star walked away from country
music in that incredible story involving the earthly death of
his son.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Of course that we kind of bonded over that.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
At our wives did first of course, uh, and then
eventually we did. He spoke at one of our man
church conferences last year. If you never heard Granger Smith
or read his book, you were really missing out. We'll
talk to him coming up later. Uh in the program.
Will we get spam? I don't know the winter weather.
(02:20):
I kind of sense that maybe we had our last
shot at SPAN yesterday.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Did you speak? Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
I've reached out to him and said, hey, it's a
long shot. You're a busy man, but but could you
join us and we'll see what happens here.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Well, for those of you that know this.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
You know, we have winter weather, and we've got a
lot of different things going on where you you know live.
You know, either your house is burning down if you're
a celebrity in California apparently.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
And then various people all across the country. Uh, you know,
we've got we've got winter weather.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
It's it's been in Texas, it's been, it's come you know,
west to east, and so.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
It's it's here on us now.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
And of course there's winter weather has its own fun,
but there's nothing quite like Southerners dealing with it.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
That's a whole that's a whole nother thing.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
And so just you just give us a little bit
and we and in all fairness, I actually talked to
a Northerner yesterday or as you know, some some people
refer to them as Yankees still uh. But but talked
to a talk to a Northerner yesterday who who lived
in Michigan where I'm supposed to go by the way tomorrow,
not the area more.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
This is a guy from Detroit. And you know what
he did.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
I was I was pleasantly surprised because I felt like
when I saw him yesterday that I was about to
be talked down to from from a Northerner about winter,
you know, because Northerners love to be let's just call
it a little bit wintry condescending to the Southerners that we,
y'a are overreacting, what is your problem? But he actually
(03:52):
has some wisdom because he said, no, no, no, he said,
I really do not give Southerners a hard time about
snow and ice. I don't, I said, really, So I'm
not going to hear that today.
Speaker 6 (04:01):
He said, no, you're not. He said, y'all don't have
the vehicles. Y'all don't have the tires, y'all don't have
the equipment. It's a completely different situation. Y'all aren't prepared
for it because it didn't happen. So y'all just shut
down and wait for it to be over. And it's
usually over pretty quick. And I thought, you know, that
may be the first northern er to ever say.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
That to me. And it felt good. Yeah, it felt good. Yeah,
because that is the truth.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yeah, it is so so anyway, now I will tell
you here at the at the old Big Boys Studio
with its wonderful new homie design, very camp house like,
by the way, I think we're going to finish it
out with its full camp house.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Look, I saw Adler keeping around yesterday.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
There's a part of the studio that's been bothering him
that we didn't quite completely put. What would you say,
We didn't do what to it, We didn't finish it
with the.
Speaker 7 (04:49):
Wood, we didn't put the wood skin whatever.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
So so I think that's going to be addressed. But
so where we are, uh, and we're in the deep
deep South. Some of you may not know that. We
come from Sweet Home, Alabama to to the world and
we're we're getting snow and and it and it gives
us a little bit of ankst because we but we
made it. We we listened to James. He told us
when to get here.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
We did. Uh.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
So we're okay, good, uh, And everything's fine with the show.
And right now we're really fortunate where we are. I
know this is not what everybody's experience is. You can
see there where we are. It's powdery, really nice snow
right now.
Speaker 8 (05:28):
It is.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah, So that that's that's pleasant because I thought all
we were going to get was sleep to night.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Well, it's weird because when I woke up, I heard,
you know, hitting the windows. It was that sleep and
I was like, I was like, oh no, and uh,
of course I was. I was woken up by Jack
pacing around, which is bizarre. So now you're just going
to freak Sure, he's a dog now if it just rains.
So we're there.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Now are you serious?
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Anything out of the one there that he didn't? Apparently so.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
I did too. But now now it's like, good night.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
He's my alarm clock if I if I I don't
need no weather radio.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
I've got Jack.
Speaker 7 (06:09):
It's like the barometric pressure changes and they freak out.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
And don't forget he ran from the fireworks. He had
never done that.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
No, So we set him up. I did a mister buddy,
uh you know millied thing.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah you got a heat and uh yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
I got him set up out in the garage so
if he ever freaks out, he's got him a nice
little area to set out there. Hey buddy, you're going
out there. You're not gonna disrupt freak out and he's
perfectly safe and warm.
Speaker 9 (06:34):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
And so before I left, I put him out there.
I'm like, I'm not doing this to Terry. She would
be woken up.
Speaker 6 (06:40):
And I can't believe because it's not Thunder's not a lie.
You can barely you really can't hear this bizarre thing. Ever,
it's less.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
I know, when we all get older, we change a
little bit. We've talked about that here on the show. Sure,
but his last few years and he's older. Uh he is,
he's a mess man.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Good night.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
So so anyway, so I woke up to that, and
now it's turned to fluffy snow, so we'll see.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
I did that thing where nature called and I just
said I think I'm just getting up now.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah, And yeah I didn't. I'm up. And it hurt
me to go to bed at halftime last night of
the playoff game. But I had to. I mean, we
all had.
Speaker 6 (07:16):
I did, and it ended up being a good game,
it did, which we haven't had really. Yes, yeah, but
I just this job. If it's a ball game during
the week, this job ruins.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
It, all right.
Speaker 7 (07:25):
So it really does.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
And by the way, on the text option Tampa, that's
not you don't need to do that to us. I mean,
here's somebody saying, hey, y'all have a blast of seventy
degrees where we are here in Tampa, thanks buddy.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (07:37):
And so I lived in Tampa for nine years. By
the way, when went from age like one to like nine,
I never heard you take no, no, no, six years.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Not nine years. Any memory of it at all?
Speaker 7 (07:49):
I do, yeah, oh yeah, remember the beach and everything.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
To get arrested for stealing from a theme park.
Speaker 7 (07:55):
I remember a very clear memory of going.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
That's jobs Greig.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
He remembers it because one time at a theme park
there he actually stole a sword.
Speaker 6 (08:06):
A pirate sword, piratesword in an iPads pirate sword.
Speaker 7 (08:09):
I remember having to go into the basement of a
hotel in Florida during a hurricane.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
That's one of the most clear memory.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
Everybody's got their own stuff, and I often I wonder,
of course, you would have to be able to move around.
It was interesting because I talked to a guy. We've
got a man church will be come up at the
end of January, uh in Arkansas. And I asked the guy,
I said, hey, you know our speaker.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
What would you do?
Speaker 1 (08:32):
He goes, oh, no, no, he goes the only hotel
really here. I wouldn't put anybody in.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
It, he said, He said, he did. He said, he said,
here's the good news. Now think about this.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
He goes, we have a guy here that only lived
only lives here till till winter, and then he moves
to Florida where he has another house and lives there
the rest of the time. To all this is over
eye and then he comes back. So we're going to
put him up in that house because it's always available
this time of year.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
There you go.
Speaker 6 (09:00):
But he just says, Arkansas is getting getting pounded. He
got pounded. It's over for them now, I think, But boy,
they got hit hard. Does it move past him yet?
Speaker 10 (09:09):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (09:10):
I don't know. I mean, but they were they were
scheduled to get hit hard.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Yeah, a lot of so So anyway, we'll, we'll, we'll,
we'll deal with that a little bit today. But but
let me honestly, we we probably are.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
We want to.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Devote the whole show to it, because, like you say,
you've got a person right there that just text us
and said, I'm in Tampa. Don't really want to hear
about the winter weather the entire show. So you're not
going to unless, of course, it unless unless it produces
a good story.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Yeah, yeah, what you could. Uh So so there you go.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Uh we'll, you know, us being in the rest as Southerners,
I think that can still entertain you no matter where
you are. Sure, because Greg, all Greg can think about
is whether he's gonna be stuck here for the whole day.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
And I mean, that's all he can think about that.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
And I told him, I just want the power to
say that's six hours from now, buddy, just you know
more than yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
I mean, he's doomsday right now. I'm good to go Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
All right, here we go.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
We got another hour rolling and we're glad you're here, Speedy,
Greg Adler, all here now. I'm just gonna say this,
by the way, speaking of Arkansas, one of our Arkansas
listeners says, nine inches of snow, still got it coming down,
So there they go.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
But anyway, so.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
I'm just gonna say this right now, Greg, we got
to have you on the show.
Speaker 6 (10:34):
I'm not doing anything. There's nothing wrong with deering the brakes.
For me to stop in front of a television and
look at the weather.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
What's wrong with that? Just let it go. We can't
nothing's gonna change and say that. So this show is over,
and then you need to assessed. Then you're not gonna
be leave it now.
Speaker 6 (10:52):
I was glad to see up in that snack room,
you know upstairs, you know obviously have food delivered today.
They actually have frozen hisn and you can heat it up.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Okay, see look at that positive now, you're right.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
One of the things that hit me was when we
were we.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Realized that because of we are in the Deep South
and we are getting winter weather and your local rooking bubba,
I'm ricking, bubba.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
There it is again. That's four that's four and five months.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Your your radio affiliate carrying the show will give you
the most specific thing to your to your area. Uh
and we may or may not get kind of a
broad look from spam. But I think that's that's if
he at best, he's pretty busy right now.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
He's replied.
Speaker 5 (11:33):
Rick.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
He's like he said, I'm wall to wall on TV
right now. And how about that? That was an that
was an unrealistic little bit.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
It was because we are a bit because he clearly
gave us what we needed yesterday and we need to
leave him along.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Let him do it. They probably couln't believe I texted.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
He made a huge mistake on me last night, huge mistake.
I was not going to text him, no way, no how,
and I even put a text out to him yesterday
afternoon and I said, there's a man church for quest
for you do not have to answer me today. I'm
just learning at this stage of my life, there's so
many things coming at us. If something is on my
(12:10):
table right now, I need to go ahead and complete
it and then you can reply to me later or
I'll forget to ask you, you know, if this thing
rolls through. And so he replied about twelve hours later.
And see, then he shouldn't have because then I knew
I had him. And then I said, hey, thank you
very much. I understand he couldn't do the date, by
(12:31):
the way, and I sent back real quick, just want
to tell the guys when we need to be at
the office so we don't get in this stuff in
the morning. And thankfully I had him for just a
moment and he gave me the information.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Real quick, and that wouldn't a big ask.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
So I don't think that was a BIB since he
replied to me from something way early that I said,
don't worry about replying to me.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Today, right right. That gave you the greenline.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Sure, but it began to dawn on me that for
us and again I'm with you, Greg. As long as
the power is not an issue, who cares. I mean,
if you've got everything rolling, the beautiful thing about the
south where we live now, a lot of you are
in a different situation. We're going to be done with
this pretty quick, and so it's not like we have
to hunker down for a long time. But it did
(13:16):
hit me very very not important, not important, but it
did hit me. Not only will there be no breakfast
for us, there won't be any lunch, not for still
here because even if you get out, ain't nothing open.
Speaker 5 (13:32):
No.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
I mean, I saw I saw two cars pulling in
when I was going by one.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
So I'm gonna tell I'm gonna sell you what I pulled,
A Southern classic. I have bread and I have sandwich.
Speaker 7 (13:43):
Made a good deal, not a boy many milk for
milk sandwich.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
I've never understood the milk thing, did. I don't know
why people have to get milk and milk. I look,
I feel bad for the lactose intolerant. Yeah, brother, I did.
Speaker 6 (13:57):
Hey in an emergency. There are some bags of eminem's
in there in the break room.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
But some health the choice, yea, some help, some big bangs,
No there is Greg. That's probably not the most nutritious lunch.
I do have various protein bars, Yes, probably too.
Speaker 6 (14:13):
And we got a room upstairs you can buy stuff,
you can and I needed that.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Thanks for reminding me of that. The thing that we're
all like, like, we're gonna be here for four days.
Here's the thing on the protein bar. There's this protein
bar that I've discovered that Greg really likes a good one,
but he won't buy them for himself.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
I don't know why they're hard to find. The pile one.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
I can't find them. The pure I can't find them much.
All right, let me tell where they are because I
couldn't find them for a long time. They couldn't find No,
you some places don't carry that brand. You're right, I
love Walmart. They're there, No, I didn't say at night.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
You know what you could do too? Order them off Amazon? Yeah, whatever,
orders everything else off Amazon. They box at Costco.
Speaker 6 (14:53):
All right, So other but real quick, before we move
on back, I realized that Rick his little gun shot
about going in that snack room because he would try
to walk.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Through the glass.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
Surprise.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
I want to know how many people have done that. Hey,
that was just a true. Let me tell you.
Speaker 6 (15:09):
You know when you get when you get injured, and
you can identify what just happened pretty quick.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Dog going it? Why did I trip? Why did I fall?
You know that fell on my head? You know, I
mean something like that.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
That was the most shocking, all of a sudden, All
of a sudden, I went to I'm fine too.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
I think those is broke and I don't even know how.
Speaker 6 (15:27):
It's not a good design. Now it's a whole wall.
It's not a door, and it's a glass. It's beside
the door. But Rick Dread walked through. But they did
change it. There's now door on there. Remember when it
happened to me there was no door? Was it was
just a glass in an open area?
Speaker 5 (15:39):
Oh it was. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
I don't give that place enough up there. The only
time I've been up there, I think you would court
it a bit. And I went up with you.
Speaker 6 (15:46):
Oh they got a good selection, that's super priceing. It's
a convenience store. They got you. You need it, they
have what you need. They've got you.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
You just get it.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Yeah, that's why he had been in.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Absolutely, he's gonna go there with my wallet and he'll
go with you straight up.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
He'll go with you. Yeah. Yeah, next time you go,
I'll run up.
Speaker 6 (16:07):
Let me tell what speed you say? Oh hey, why
we're up? I forgot Let me get it. And then
then he'll act like he's going to get it and
come back. What he knows is impossible.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
Oh man, let me tell you. Let me tell about
alligator arms.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
His best move is always what you just said, and
we often leave that out in our presentation.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
He does make some ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Offer that he's gonna walk back to his house or
something like that. Let me go back downstairs through two doors,
crawl under my get into my glove compartment next to
my pistol, and get it.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Yeah, And you're just like, come on, man, it ain't
worth all one time. I want to look in and go, okay,
go ahead.
Speaker 11 (16:39):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Yeah, it hurt. Yesterday I had to get a new
front windshield on my truck.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
I'm about uh because it rock hit it and it
literally looked like a half moon and just the crack,
the crack just kept on going.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
And you stared at it all the time.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Terrible, and then I felt like it was making noise
when I would hit different things, you know, So I
had to I had to schedule an appointment yesterday and
and Terry luckily was around, and so we had a
long lunch and everything. I no more get in my truck,
and I am I have to get back up on
the interstatement and.
Speaker 12 (17:16):
Say it don't no, it didn't crack. But I'm on
the exit ramp and I hear when you start, then
you start looking at the windshield.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Please don't know, and I haven't seen a spot yet,
But I'm like, you're kidding me.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
It's like the people to do that work, have people
hit up rocks at you as you lead.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Yeah, well, cause again it goes back in the speed.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
It goes back to that category of I'm okay if
if the quagmire I called and calls and is I
calls the hassle. But this thing about I wasn't falling
too close. I don't see anything around me that has rocks,
and I'll send a rock just radomly flies up I nowhere,
and then it sues it cracked you when you're like
a windshill, come on, all right, Wow, there's a big
(18:05):
ol'd loud one to you like you were so scared,
like you're kidding me.
Speaker 7 (18:10):
I just left. It sounds like when Rick ran into
the glass.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Oh yeah, tell y'all hang on to that incident. Bottom
of thee Will Winds. Shows are expensive, they are they
like a big hassle.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
This is the Rick Burgess show.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Yesterday, as the the live show was ending, secondhand embarrassment
was in at all time high with Speedy and and
others because the Jimmy Carter funeral was beginning to unfold,
and we knew that one of the things was that
Biden would do the eutlogy that that was we were
(18:50):
all very uncomfortable about that when he was sleeping sitting
there before that. Yeah, that that was not a good sign.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Greg.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
But people begin to focus on something other than that,
and that was the interaction of former presidents, former first
ladies and all of this. And if you see Trump
shakes hands with Mike Pints, a lot of.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
People were watching for that.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
Obama does not shake Trump or Melania's hand, but shakes
everybody else's hand. Bush walks right past Trump, then slaps
Obama in the stomach, shakes hands with everyone else, and
then Obama and Trump, which we'll get into, will unpack
this a little more, start cutting up and having laughs.
The Clintons walk in and ignore Bush, Obama and Trump.
(19:37):
When Kamala walks in, of course Bill Clinton looks at
her rear end as she walks by. So there's all
kinds of things going on, and this kind of became
more of what everybody was talking about than actually Jimmy Carter.
And of course there's probably reason for that in some areas,
(19:57):
but especially as the president. I'm not talking about it human being,
and I don't agree with everything involving him as a
human being either, but the president part of him was
probably the most unimpressive.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Would we agree with that?
Speaker 2 (20:10):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (20:10):
Yeah, okay, So.
Speaker 7 (20:12):
There's Obama and Trump does not stand up, So Obama
does not shake his hand. Pence does stand up behind
them on the row behind them, Al Gore Obama shaking hands,
and you're gonna think, oh, this is gonna be icy,
this is gonna be icy between Obama and Trump. But
after Obama is done shaking hands with the row behind
he does sit down, and you can see that's when
(20:33):
the camaraderie begins between the Trumpster and Obama. What are
they talking about?
Speaker 5 (20:39):
Nobody knows.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
So another white envelope.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Well, with the white envelope, we.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Do we do have a story about that, but I
see ad or you also have a video. So is
this this is Trump being asked to tell somebody what
this was about.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Is this his opportunity to chat about it?
Speaker 5 (21:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (21:05):
Trump was asked about it?
Speaker 3 (21:06):
All right, So here's Trump. You mentioned the Carter funeral today?
What were you talking to Barack Obama about?
Speaker 9 (21:13):
It?
Speaker 11 (21:14):
Did look very friendly. I must say, I didn't realize it.
I didn't realize it how how friendly it looked. I
saw it on your wonderful network just a little while
ago before I came in, and I said, boy, they
look like two people that like each other, and we
probably do. We have little different philosophies, right, but we
(21:35):
probably do.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
I don't know.
Speaker 11 (21:36):
We just got along, but I got along with just
about everybody on that we you know, we met backstages,
you know, before we went on, and I thought it
was a beautiful service. But we all got along very well,
which is good.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Yeah, so we started to fight.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
This is where Gregg's narrative is, it's all a show
and they really are all friends.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
So what what what what do you say, mister mister iluminati?
What what do you say? What do you think they
were doing your opinion, I don't, you know, I really don't.
I'm trying to see hacking on other people that are there.
I know that would be your I know that.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
You would be your dream.
Speaker 6 (22:18):
We're two guys that can relate to each other and
we're all sitting down and it looked like just casual
talk to me, and they were you know, I can't
think of any angle from the deep state that it
could have been. Yeah, what do you think about al Gore?
Ar tell you one thing. He's got one eye that
doesn't look straight. Yeah, it's just something like that. Yeah, well,
al Gore to me looked like on the outside looking
in like it's almost like they were all buddies, and
(22:39):
except with a they didn't like it, of course, Pens
and Trump was a little awkward.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
It was, but they did shake hands.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
You could tell that was that wasn't And this goes
back to this world we're living in now.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
I'm not saying they're big buddies.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
I'm not even saying they're Okay, I'm not saying that,
but I can tell you on social media, you would
see people showing this footage and it would it would say, oh,
Trump and pants a little cold, and then you would
look at it and go, it looks like you just
walked over and sugar his hand.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 7 (23:08):
Not going to hide five.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
But make the best of an awkward situation. I mean,
let's just be cordial.
Speaker 10 (23:20):
You know.
Speaker 6 (23:20):
I mean, because like you were referring earlier as far
as ideology, and yeah, you know Republican Damn, they're all
in the back room drawing up the plans.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
So you're saying this, you're saying, get their turn.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Okay, you're saying all politics is w W and all
of them are wrestlers who ride home together. The bad
guy rides home with a good guy and they just
rotate who gets power.
Speaker 6 (23:42):
Yeah, they don't want to mess it up because they
all got a pretty good gig. When it breaks down, well,
they don't mess the gigs. It's more of the congress
people that have been there their whole life. It's more
of that group maybe than the you know, the president
and the advice from that group that's been there one
hundred years, like Joe Biden and all them. They don't
want to mess up what they got. And they and
the other guy, even though he's in a different party,
he's got a good gig too, and we get in
(24:03):
the back room and go, look, don't mess each other up.
We'll fight here, make make our people think we care.
Speaker 7 (24:08):
Right from the looks of things, I totally agree. And
it seems like the only person that isn't pulling punches
is Trump, honestly, because it seems like the rest of
the rest of the establishment once I'm out. We saw
Dick Cheney endorsing Kamala Harris, we saw the Bush family
endorsing Kamala Harris.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (24:25):
I will say this in my scenario, I don't and
I believe it because there's Republicans who you know, obviously
didn't like him, and the way they were trying to
weaponize and get him thrown out.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
I don't believe Trump's in on it. And that's not
just are you.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Just saying that Trump now, I really don't. I think
that's because he's getting back last people everybody.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
I actually agree with you.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
I think the whole thing that we have seen with
the whole Trump deal is that we it was revealed
to us that he is shaking up the gig.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
You're gonna mess it up.
Speaker 7 (24:55):
They're like, whoa whoa smaller government? Whoa exactly stop?
Speaker 3 (24:59):
Okay, hate you try to kill me twice?
Speaker 5 (25:03):
I saw.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
How about that?
Speaker 5 (25:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (25:06):
Two shots?
Speaker 7 (25:07):
That's a good Do you think they have happened to that?
For humanity homes in heaven?
Speaker 5 (25:10):
Listen?
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Oh that is a good one.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
Yeah, it's terrible.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Am I laughing that?
Speaker 6 (25:16):
I saw a story yesterday and it was about it
showed Nancy Pillow's that she's back, but she's got a walker.
It shows McConnell up there, hung on the stair talking
about how these politicians they're eighty crazy, my goodness. And
what was the one the lady that kept Willinger in
there letting her vote and she finally died. Oh yeah,
out of California. Yeah, you know, I'm just saying too long.
(25:37):
And then the story was about there's a bill about
term limits.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Somebody was saying that Michelle Obama wasn't there. Yeah, you
think she or something might have been sick. Well, she
heard they had to sit by Trump, might have been sick.
We come back. Another oddity considering it was Jimmy Carter's funeral,
because one of the things that has always made him
a little bit of hands off is you you hear
about him being a Sunday school teacher at his local
(26:03):
Baptist church. I'm pretty sure it's a Baptist, definitely, probably
I think it was a Methodist and something weird happened
at that funeral.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
So we'll be back.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
So anyway, all right, so people were telling me and
I thought this was was true.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Is Jimmy Carter?
Speaker 1 (26:28):
I guess I don't know where he was at the
at the end of his life, but he was pretty
much known to be you'd hear this all time, still
teaching Sunday school at a southern Baptist church.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
And that peanut part of Georgia. Is that Americas over
that way?
Speaker 7 (26:43):
What is it?
Speaker 6 (26:44):
Exl You know, we refer to him as a peanut farmer, right,
I mean, was he like I got my jeens on
him out there farming peanuts or he just was a
big investor that owned a bunch of peanut farms.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Now neither one is bad.
Speaker 7 (26:56):
He had to sell it. They made him sell this
peanut farm before because in the president or something there
was something crazy.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
Yeah, So I'm yeah, so this was what I started
getting emails about this. Okay, So that means that Jimmy Carter,
you know, whether you know, certainly we are not judge
and jury on this. He I saw a guy post
something even when Jimmy was near death. This was my
daddy's Sunday school teacher, and you know, biblical worldview and
(27:25):
Southern Baptist and all this. And then I start hearing
at the funeral everybody start emailing me.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
I didn't know.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
Hey, well, you think about the fact that the Garth
Brooks and Tricia Yourwood did imagine at Jimmy Carter's funeral.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
There is that song is so anti faith? Oh yeah,
why would anyone schedule imagine to be played at the
funeral of Jimmy Carter.
Speaker 7 (27:53):
I mean this first line here, yeah, is so why
would you want this line at any one's funeral?
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Right here we go imagine that no heaven.
Speaker 7 (28:08):
Well this is recod my goodness.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Yeah, thank you, he's dead. It's granted he going to heaven.
Not according to Garth Brooks.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Yeah, this song is saying that our convictions and the
exclusivity of things like Jesus Christ. I don't know how
to break it. Some of you think there's a way
to do this. It's just not true. What Jesus Christ
said is either something that you embrace and you're justified
and redeemed by, or you're condemned by. So it's very
(28:42):
controversial that he did not say, don't worry, my father's
going to work it all out.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Everybody's in.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
He didn't say that at all. He's calling people to repentance.
He's saying He's the only way to be justified. You
must be perfect to walk into the presence of a
holy God. I'm the only one that can make you
fully righteous. It's very exclusive.
Speaker 5 (29:02):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
And and then all of a sudden, you're at a
man's funeral that, by all accounts was a you know,
Sunday school teacher and devout to to his church and
hopefully to his faith. He said some things that I
would disagree with, but I'm not. I don't have I'm
not worried that Jimmy Carter is not going to spend
eternity in heaven, I guess. But but I mean, as
(29:24):
far as being at his funeral, pretty pretty outspoken. He
started doing some things later in his life that I
was like, I think you're I think you're trying. You
You're heading down that universal road A little bit uh universalism.
Speaker 7 (29:38):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
But but anyway, that's that's not that's not here there.
I just think it's inappropriate to sing that song at
Jimmy Carter's funeral.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
There it is, that's the bottom line.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Or anybody who claims to be a person of the
Christian faith, you wouldn't crank that out. I mean that
that song is saying, we would all be better off
if there were no religions and people will just all
be the same, and we're all going to be okay
even though we're all dying and we're not really going anywhere.
We're just going back into the earth, and the world
(30:09):
would be better if we just all embrace that m
And And somehow John Lennon foolishly thought that would bring peace.
I don't know how I thought that. There is never
going to be peace on this earth.
Speaker 7 (30:24):
Imagine sessions, Rick, Imagine no possessions.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
You know what passed. I'm glad I have a house.
Speaker 7 (30:30):
This should not be played at a funeral. This should
be played at like the World Economic Forum. You know,
you will own nothing and you will.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
Be happy about it. This is something you crank out
at Bernie Sanders funeral.
Speaker 7 (30:40):
Brotherhood of Man yeah, uh brotherhood. By the way, Garth
Brooks is luring or lullabying. I guess I don't know
what the word is. Joe Biden, his eyelids are so
heavy during this song.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
He can't Garth and Tricia, they are soothing.
Speaker 7 (30:57):
Yes, join right here is gonna show Biden. He's gonna
blink and it's gonna be a long one. Goodness, that
was the hardest blank of his life.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Right now he is a long blinker.
Speaker 7 (31:11):
He really is.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
Well. So I think it was five minutes.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
A lot of people are asking who picked that song
for Jimmy Carter's funeral?
Speaker 3 (31:18):
When I would say, I don't know. That's that probably
wasn't the best idea.
Speaker 7 (31:23):
Yeah, imagine there's no heaven. Please, no, no, Granddaddy's dad.
Everybody want to do that.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Grandad's been ultimately healed. Where is he now? He's in heaven?
Imagine there's no Daddy.
Speaker 7 (31:36):
Obama's only Scott.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Why why's mister Brooks saying that whoever that.
Speaker 9 (31:42):
Woman is with him?
Speaker 7 (31:43):
Also, where are the bodies, Garth? Where are the bodies?
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Top of the hour. We'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
This is the Rick Burgess Show, So to come.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
David Pollock talk college football playoff. Granger Smith will talk
Man Church conference. All of that coming up a little
bit later on in the program. So looking forward to
chatting with those two and chatting with all of you
out there too, America. So as we come back for
this hour, you know, I will say this again. You know,
(32:20):
the having the two the double basketball goals in here
is a blast. Having the camera on right now in
the break is fun. But you know, we get the
critiques on the shooting and and I will just tell
those of you that saw me shoot all those bricks
in the break as I'm warming up, you know, if
you remember last year, because I've also started back the
(32:42):
doing a little Bit Better campaign, Yesterday was workout two
of twenty twenty five, and I'm just having a hard
time lifting my arms, so so it was I can't
really straighten them. But when I when I get when
I get loose. Yeah, yesterday I started off bricking it
and then I hit like a run of eleven out
of fifteen was probably my best run, right, so get
(33:04):
it more.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
I'm just into challenges. So I go over there and
go fall off a little bit, but I actually need
to well to try to.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
And then I keep doing all that pesky trying to
figure out what we're gonna do next.
Speaker 6 (33:12):
Yeah, you know, when I clearly need to working on
my foul shot, would you do that? When Speedy challenges Adler,
like if I hit this shot, you got to do something, yeah,
And it makes Addler mad because if he misses, Speed
don't have to do anything, because how he goes Yeah,
but you don't have to do it either, that's the reward.
But anyways, some of the ones he comes up with.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
I like, I have to add it. Get on get
on the counter right here, and like.
Speaker 7 (33:40):
Yeah, yeah, Speedy, Hey, if I make this, you got
to get up on the count. I'm like, but what
if you miss it? What you don't have to do?
Speaker 3 (33:45):
Well, you know you have to do I don't have
to do anything, but you don't have to get on
the counter.
Speaker 7 (33:49):
See you're you're okay. Here's my life quality right here
before you say anything to me, and then you say, now,
if I make this, do you have to do this
until my life quality? Watch it it goes down. So really,
the only thing that can happen to me is my
life can either stay the same or go down. There
(34:09):
has to be a win.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
Your win is it doesn't go down. That's not a win.
Speaker 9 (34:13):
That says nothing.
Speaker 7 (34:15):
There has to be a negative consequence for you the same.
But how does your life change?
Speaker 3 (34:22):
But my life would get better if you had to
get up there.
Speaker 6 (34:25):
But if I miss, I stay the same. When you miss,
I'll tell you what he has to do with disappointment. Yeah,
you got it from here. You have to get on
the counter.
Speaker 5 (34:35):
I can.
Speaker 6 (34:35):
It's never a straight up shot. The other day he
was bouncing them off his forehead, shooting with his forehead.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
Going if I hit this, he his forehead shot. Oh
he could play soccer.
Speaker 7 (34:45):
He's a soccer player. What he took you? Three tries? Tries?
Speaker 5 (34:56):
All right?
Speaker 3 (34:56):
So some funny you're from here. You have to get
on the count. Some very.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Trying again by the way, hilarious texting, by the way,
hilarious texting.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
And and the uh yeah that's all right.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
So anyway, the great texting somebody they're doing all this
is anybody wanting to entertain that maybe Garth Brooks and
Tricia your would misunderstood they were actually supposed to do.
I can only imagine that is hilarious, that that's possible.
And then somebody saying, look, they'd have been better off
if they're going to do that, just open with Highway
to Hell.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
At least Biden would have stayed away. Very funny, very funny.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
And then and then there's the universalists that that is
up there texting and completely does not understand the gospel.
But anyway, so, uh yeah, well that's that bunch that
you know, Jesus's death on the cross and then resurrection
that meant everybody's now saved because your boy, you're leaving
(35:56):
out a tremendous amount of scripture and a lot of
commentary from the one that.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Went to the cross. You're just you're just leaving so
much out.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
What was finished was now the opportunity to be justified
and to be redeemed. He called everyone to repentance.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
And there's so many examples of this that, But we
don't have time for that today.
Speaker 6 (36:16):
So if you'd like to follow up with that and
us work that out, I can help you if you
if you desire, but you probably are saying you've already
made your mind.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
But I'm certainly here to talk if you want to.
All Right, So now we're getting into this these California fires. Okay,
so now we think now we think arsonists, right, we
don't think that these the funds. I think they've arrested somebody,
Henry went from one of them. But do you just
this is the problem with the fires being where they are.
(36:44):
Everybody we're talking to in the neighborhood are all celebrities,
which makes it weird.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Yeah, getting interviewed on the side of the road.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Yeah, I mean when when Jamie Lee Curtis is talking
to me about our neighborhood, it's just weird, it is,
you know, And and are you does everybody have to
live there? If you're if you're an actor, are you
assigned at least one home there? I mean Mel Gibson
he's there, he's talking about his with Rogan, talking about Yeah,
my house is probably on fire right now. But the
(37:13):
beautiful thing about them is they get to go, well,
my house is on fire in this neighborhood.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
I'll just go to the other house, right.
Speaker 10 (37:20):
You know.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
There is but a lot of that, a lot of
folks because some of these insurance companies dropped them because
of California and how crazy it is out there, and
a lot of people are losing their home and they
don't have venturance.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
Yeah, these aren't all celebrities. You're right.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
It's just weird that like like we have with Steve,
you know, Gutenberg, and we just had with the Faunds,
I mean, the Fawns just saying there's an artist. But
there seems to be some some more than just the
Faunds that they believe that there is an arcist. And
they've arrested one for starting a fire where they are
(37:54):
and the death toll the costs of the fire now
is ten. So they have arrested somebody.
Speaker 4 (37:59):
Yeah, they have. And I think they're naming each fire whatever.
And then that one rick you're talking about, it is one,
is it? The Yeah, the Kenneth fire.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
I didn't know we named fire now, yeah it is. Uh,
they've made it and arrest there.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
And then.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Winkler went out and he said, hey, there's an arsonist
among us. I hope you know. And he kind of like, hey,
I hope, I hope you have the worst life. I
hope this happens to you. We got to find them
kind of thing.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
And then they quoted him.
Speaker 6 (38:26):
He said he here's.
Speaker 7 (38:31):
Some footage I just found of U. There was a
guy carrying a blow torch okay, and yes, I think
that is that who they got Civilians, Yes, yes, civilians
were like, hey man, we see that you have a
blow torch. There there's some fires, and so civilians actually
hold this guy until cops get there. But he's definitely
(38:52):
got a blow torch walking around setting fires.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
He was he was setting fires to old Christmas trees
that were put out different wow that yeah, yeah, so
so those things will go up.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
And they said they did detain this suspect over in
Woodland Hills. It's been investigated. Uh, and it says he
believed the fires. The officer was asked directly, do you
believe the fire was set intentionally? And he said at
this time that is what we believe. That would be
a yes. So these things were set by archionists and
(39:31):
the problem is when it happened, then you get into.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
All the failures of.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
Gavin Newsom, you know, and Trump's even come back saying, look,
I was offering help long ago because this place was
so susceptible of this. I was turned down by Gavin Newsom.
People are talking, you know his really it's almost like
he and Trudeau are being revealed at the same time
to just be completely incompetent. All of this leftist socialist
(39:57):
stuff is just a disaster for people. Well, and now
California is experiencing it, Canada is experiencing it. And why
anyone still wants us to do it in other places
is beyond me, because you're seeing firsthand what this leads
to and how foolish it is. And now we're even thinking,
we're finding out that the Los Angeles mayor is a communist, uh,
(40:21):
you know, with with castro ties.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
I mean, it's just it's just crazy.
Speaker 7 (40:26):
I mean this this image here is it speaks a lot.
And that is a rainbow fire hydrant with fire behind
it with no water in it.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
That that really is.
Speaker 7 (40:37):
Yeah, but instead of painting with a rainbow, let's make
sure it has water.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
The good news first number one to be a wet rainbow.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Yeah, the good news is it has a I guess
they want the LGBT community to have fire like everybody else.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
All Right, we'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
People are texting about it, people are emailing about it.
Did y'all see yes Lee Corso last night?
Speaker 4 (41:07):
Yes, yes, I was talking screaming to the TV. Don't
let him fall don't let him fall.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
Was he being funny acting like he was going to
fall or you?
Speaker 8 (41:15):
No?
Speaker 4 (41:15):
No, he backed into the helmets that they had up front,
and and he he kind of did.
Speaker 6 (41:20):
You know the real Leprechaun was with him? The Notre
Dame reached and called it right, I'll say this.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
He never let go of Lee Corso's arm and that
was good.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
Oh good. And this is where I said, dont don't
let him, don't let him fall. He's hanging out. Oh
that's right. He did hit the helmets. Okay, okay, who
goes to the Leprechaun?
Speaker 5 (41:47):
Was that?
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Was that?
Speaker 7 (41:48):
I think that's my cousin.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
Was that real? Am? I?
Speaker 13 (41:51):
Bad?
Speaker 5 (41:51):
Am?
Speaker 13 (41:51):
I bad?
Speaker 5 (41:52):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (41:52):
Don't want him to get hurt. Yes, boy had been funny,
it would have been, but I don't want marriage at
that age.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
He didn't need a fast Maybe he would have just
the helmet would have saved him.
Speaker 7 (42:02):
Hang on a second, does it bother y'all that the
leprechaun is just wearing under arm or shoes, and just
like white socks.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
Shouldn't wear that.
Speaker 7 (42:08):
Shouldn't he be in some like cobbled peddlers type shoes
or something that that's bothering me?
Speaker 3 (42:13):
Right now, Okay, let me change. I'm gonna change my scenario.
The leprechaun falls instead.
Speaker 7 (42:18):
Of like, okay, that's nice.
Speaker 3 (42:19):
How would how would you like this? Speedy leprechaun? Real
re leprechaun.
Speaker 1 (42:23):
Falls, pulls Leek Horso down, who safely falls on top
of the Leprechaun's body and sandwich.
Speaker 7 (42:31):
No adjustments, no notes, perfect, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
That'd be funny.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
Yeah, all right, So two pieces of bread sitting on
each other. Did you hear Lee Corso try to break
the game down for us?
Speaker 3 (42:41):
I know I did not hear. I given up on that. Wow.
I've watched that all season and it has not gotten
any better. So many things are perplexing. So many things
are perplexing. Why we keep.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
Calling boneless wings wings? Why dipping dots still thinks they're
the ice cream of the future. Those things bother me.
Something else that bothers me. I don't understand why we're
letting Lee Horso continue. I don't get it. I don't
understand it. I don't know what we're doing. It seems
cruel to me. It feels biden like to me.
Speaker 7 (43:13):
Maybe if Notre Dame wins, this will be his last
season dressing as a leprechaun.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
He would go out on top.
Speaker 7 (43:17):
That would be good.
Speaker 6 (43:19):
Yeah, okay, he obviously did make the right pick.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
Oh yeah, well you think, well everybody did. They all
picked Notre Dame, Pat mcavee picking.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
Yeah, oh did he really?
Speaker 6 (43:31):
And he said the Notre Dame fans like it because
when he picks against him, they win, right, So.
Speaker 1 (43:36):
Well, somebody put out And I like coach Franklin. I
think he's a good football coach. He's four and twenty
against top ten teams past that. Wow, I hear that
a little bit of analysis there for me. You know,
I saw it when I was in my office, this one.
Speaker 7 (43:53):
Well, that's good, that's okay.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
Yeah, I didn't know that. I just saw it, you said.
He looked around.
Speaker 3 (44:00):
Said when I said it, think James Franklin's good. I
know you do. Well, here's here's the good news.
Speaker 1 (44:06):
I knew that I would get a reaction from y'all
if I could remember to say it. And uh, and
I'm really feeling pretty great because it went exactly like
i'd hoped. Okay that I admit to not knowing that
too quick though, would y'all like to ye let.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
That resonate a little bit a little more. But didn't
y'all know that I didn't know it.
Speaker 6 (44:22):
They looked like the first half, I thought, Pennstay's got this.
I know it's early, but boy, then Notre Dame came out.
I want this is the last thing I watched where
I went to sleep. Took the opening drive the second
half and put it in the N zone a little
like a different team.
Speaker 1 (44:36):
Well, so I didn't see that because I was in bed. Uh,
But I think that I will say this. Watching the
first half, I do believe that both Notre Dame and
Penn State. I'm giving credit where credit is due. Both
of them look like they're the most physical athletic version
of these two iconic schools that I've seen in a
long time.
Speaker 3 (44:56):
I agree with that in a long time. They're they're
not lukes.
Speaker 6 (45:00):
Now, we all knew Penn State wasn't gonna do it
because of everything I just said.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
So they do have some good play.
Speaker 4 (45:06):
So I'm asleep and didn't say this, but did Notre
Dame pick off a ball like with under thirty seconds
left and then went down kicked a field goal with
seven seconds left.
Speaker 6 (45:16):
I think you're right because I saw the Penn State
quarterback with his head and his hands.
Speaker 7 (45:20):
Yes, yes, yes, Drew what's his name? Bad mistake late
in the fourth.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
All right, we'll talk about that with a publock coming
up next hour.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 9 (45:39):
Yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (45:39):
And I also want to announce the staff that the bathroom,
although it's public, is private today because nobody else is
in the building.
Speaker 3 (45:46):
Are we?
Speaker 7 (45:48):
A lot is empty?
Speaker 3 (45:49):
Yeah? So so so it's just us. How about that?
All right, I'm gonna go look at some of these
other offices and stuff.
Speaker 7 (45:55):
Oh yeah, I'm gonna go drop one.
Speaker 3 (45:56):
Suret it?
Speaker 11 (45:57):
So.
Speaker 1 (45:57):
I also would like to say to the textures, even
though my friend sadly does have a LS, who got
who out whose nose I allegedly broke? He did not
have a LS? Then okay, well that's good. Clear that
is that's a big mess up. Do not add that. Rick,
You're drinking chocolate milk already, but you've got to do somethingbody,
what's going on?
Speaker 10 (46:18):
Well?
Speaker 1 (46:18):
I just think that because we're all here and we're
snowed in for a little while, that I don't I
guess I'm giving myself all kinds of liberties. I don't
know what like, I'm afraid we're gonna all start death
or something.
Speaker 3 (46:28):
What's wrong with you? You're pegging it on to go hibernate?
Speaker 1 (46:31):
All right, So let's talk a little bit more about
the California fires. We've already talked about that. Phonsie has
helped police catching arsonist. We've already talked about that. But
a couple of other things. Do you want to stop
good night? Do we have a bunch of it? Have
we Have we done any of this yet? None of
(46:52):
these this is all new.
Speaker 5 (46:54):
You want to.
Speaker 6 (46:54):
Start just at the at the top, all right, So
let's start with two A.
Speaker 1 (46:58):
Now, this is what you don't want. This is one
of the things, the reason why you're going to hear
with this show that we broadcast from the real world,
this fantasy world that we've created here.
Speaker 3 (47:11):
It does not work. It's all feel goodism.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
And these dei hires that we have that are not
based off merit at all.
Speaker 3 (47:19):
They put people in a bond. So listen to this.
Speaker 1 (47:23):
This is the assistant chief Christine Larson for the Los
Angeles Fire Department.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
Now listen to this.
Speaker 14 (47:32):
You want to see somebody that responds to your house,
your emergency, whether it's a medical call or a fire call,
that looks like you. It gives that person a little
bit more ease knowing that somebody might understand their situation better.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
Is she strong enough to do this?
Speaker 14 (47:46):
Or you couldn't carry my husband out of a fire,
which my response is he got himself from the wrong place.
Speaker 3 (47:51):
If I have to carry him out of a.
Speaker 7 (47:52):
Fire, yah, that's.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
It's his fault. Wait a minute.
Speaker 1 (48:03):
Everybody who needs help is in the situation they couldn't control.
I mean, so you're saying, So what we're going to
say is, thank goodness, we've got the entire cast of
Wicked as our fire department. Okay, thank goodness, this is
our fire department, and that's great. We should all be
thankful about that, unless we need to be carried out
(48:25):
of a fire.
Speaker 5 (48:26):
And if that.
Speaker 3 (48:26):
Happens, we should have known better. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (48:28):
Yeah, it's on you. I know you were sleeping. The
smoke got to you, but you should have worked through it.
Speaker 7 (48:33):
You want to see somebody that responds to your I'm
just quoting. You want to see somebody that responds to
your house that looks like you.
Speaker 6 (48:41):
I don't no, I don't care don't you look like
I would rather have someone who care firefighter?
Speaker 3 (48:47):
Are you? That's it?
Speaker 1 (48:48):
I'm sixty years old right now. I mean no offense.
I know there's some hard no sixty year olds out there.
I'd like to somebody come in there that it doesn't
look like me.
Speaker 6 (48:56):
Yeah, I don't care if you've got somebody could come
in with a big bunch of dread locks and look
like a rostamun.
Speaker 7 (49:01):
Yes, yeah, are you good at fighting fires? Fire fighter?
Speaker 3 (49:06):
Nice hair pal.
Speaker 1 (49:07):
I believe that I believe that DEI falls under the
same category of do you really want there to.
Speaker 3 (49:12):
Be a DEI higher flying you.
Speaker 6 (49:15):
From point A to point B? Do you really want
to have your your chest cavity opened up in heart
surgery with the DEI higher brain surgery, et cetera treating
you for you know, any sort of you know, life
and death situation. I gotta say no, I got to
say best of the best, and you know what else, also,
don't want our country defended by DEI hires.
Speaker 15 (49:36):
No.
Speaker 1 (49:37):
I want the best of the best, and I want
the standard to remain right where it is excellent, and
then we can achieve diversity through excellence, which we've said
a thousand times. And by the way, whoever thought that
couldn't be achieved?
Speaker 4 (49:50):
Yeah, it makes me want to fireman carry Adler right now.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
Before after you hit Great with snowballs. I mean you're
off and running today.
Speaker 3 (49:59):
By the way, Adlers as too heavy, I'm too big.
Speaker 1 (50:01):
Now. Adler has health has requested that we wait for
more light outside before Greg and Speedy snowball fight.
Speaker 7 (50:09):
Well, no, in wixt hour, we're good.
Speaker 4 (50:10):
Can I be clear? We're not snowball fighting. I'm just
hitting him with a snowball.
Speaker 7 (50:14):
You too, buddy.
Speaker 1 (50:18):
By the way, I noticed that the original plan was
for Speedy to throw at me and then he heard
the story yesterday about the kid's birthday part.
Speaker 3 (50:24):
Yeah, yeah, I'm not going to do that, all right.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
So here's the here's some drone footage about Look at
the wildfire devastation.
Speaker 3 (50:32):
It's unbelievable.
Speaker 7 (50:33):
So I think we're at seventeen thousand acres and which
is larger than Manhattan. So as far as the scale
and size of things, yeah, look at that. You remember
the great Chicago fire.
Speaker 6 (50:48):
We all learned about growing on the city.
Speaker 7 (50:51):
Right, we all learned about that in school. This is
like four times as large.
Speaker 3 (50:56):
Look at that four times.
Speaker 13 (50:58):
Yow.
Speaker 4 (50:58):
Yes, you're gonna have to explain for those that how
there's trees up I have Now.
Speaker 7 (51:03):
These trees survive to that is weird, But the houses
evidently go up easier. They're just the way that the tree.
Speaker 6 (51:10):
Yeah, there's a whole tree situation I won't get into
right now.
Speaker 3 (51:13):
And some of them are just bear that have been burned. Wow,
they are burning.
Speaker 6 (51:17):
They just haven't cried, but it just burned every single
house in that area, every.
Speaker 3 (51:21):
One of them.
Speaker 1 (51:22):
So what about here's one where we have somebody riding
a scooter around the burning town.
Speaker 7 (51:26):
Yes, and uh, it really does look like a shot
from like a Walking Dead movie or Children of Men
type apocalypse.
Speaker 3 (51:34):
In California, real life of Bloca lives in California. He's
just riding around the scooter shows a.
Speaker 6 (51:42):
Breading to the ground, you guys, just like a soggy land.
Speaker 7 (51:48):
Look at this unreal here's fires everywhere.
Speaker 3 (51:52):
Can you believe that that's crazy?
Speaker 7 (51:53):
Everything's breading to the ground.
Speaker 3 (51:56):
I mean that is a.
Speaker 6 (51:59):
And and a lot of this we're now finding out
could have been avoided if the if the leadership was
just not so incompetent and well I hope.
Speaker 3 (52:10):
The people there. This is a wake up call that
feel goodism and all that. It may.
Speaker 1 (52:15):
It may, it's in the word, it may feel good,
but it is when times are tough, you want the best.
I mean you, you you want the best. So we'll
come back. Pollock is joining us next. And a lot
of y'all asked me to bring up the thing about
me spilling coffee on Pollock again.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
I don't want to relive that again. I completely forgot
you got it.
Speaker 7 (52:37):
You got to bring it up again. You got to
apologize again.
Speaker 1 (52:41):
So we'll we'll talk to him next. It's top of
the hour. Thank you for being with us on the
Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 2 (52:52):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (52:59):
College Football playoff, so our first year for the Big
twelve teams. We're very fired up about that. David Pollock
joins us. Uh Pollock, what's going on.
Speaker 8 (53:09):
Homie, m.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
Let's go on, homies, homies trying to figure out. Look,
he's got a copsette up there though.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
Yeah, he read me. Testing one two for homie.
Speaker 5 (53:21):
We see here, can you hear me?
Speaker 8 (53:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (53:22):
We got you, We got you, buddy.
Speaker 5 (53:24):
Yeah, baby, let's get weird.
Speaker 3 (53:28):
Testing one two for homie.
Speaker 5 (53:30):
Gee oh yeah, we got to cover. Baby. I woke
up early for your punk butt Rick. Just let it
be known, baby, I was. I was out like a light.
Speaker 13 (53:38):
Just oh.
Speaker 3 (53:39):
I'm so glad that you did.
Speaker 1 (53:41):
And if I was there, I would say thank you
by spilling coffee on you.
Speaker 5 (53:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
I've seen that before.
Speaker 5 (53:46):
We've seen that movie.
Speaker 15 (53:47):
Hey, it's snowing here in Georgia, man, like literally, I
mean like white snow.
Speaker 5 (53:52):
It's it's real snow.
Speaker 15 (53:53):
We get so much like school's clothes, it's ice and stuff,
but it's actually snow, and so it's uh, it'ser.
Speaker 5 (54:00):
Look at that the background.
Speaker 3 (54:01):
Yeah, that's that's us.
Speaker 1 (54:02):
It just came through Bama, so it's over there with
you now.
Speaker 3 (54:06):
But I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
I'm so thankful because we thought we'd be on that
part where we just got sleep and ice, but we
got real snows.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
That's good. Yeah, that's good. Yeah, did you?
Speaker 5 (54:15):
Well? Congratulations my man?
Speaker 3 (54:17):
Heye, thank you.
Speaker 1 (54:17):
I know you and I have been talking about this
and you've got a lot of stuff brewing too, and
and I'm looking forward to all we're gonna be doing together,
and uh, it's exciting you know you as we talk
about you, we all love what we've been able to do.
But hopefully you're just excited about what you're currently doing
and and and we are so thank you for taking time.
I hope this will be a regular thing that we do.
(54:38):
But did you see the game last night?
Speaker 11 (54:42):
No?
Speaker 5 (54:43):
What happened? There was a game last night?
Speaker 1 (54:44):
Yeah, yeah, so you know, we had we had to
go to bed so early because of the weather. We
had to get here even earlier today, so all we
saw was the first half and it was definitely.
Speaker 3 (54:56):
Yeah, we had hundred percent.
Speaker 15 (54:58):
My gosh, y'all missed the phenomenal game. Yeah, it was great, well,
the best all time. I'd hate to just rub it
in and say, Lee, you missed it the best one ever,
but now it was. It was a very weird game,
like Penn State comes out ten to nothing and Notre
Dame goes on a seventeen to nothing run, and then
Penn State goes on a fourteen to nothing run. Then
(55:18):
Notre Dame finishes it and kicks a field goal at
the last second, So a lot of back and forth.
Speaker 5 (55:24):
Really really really good football game.
Speaker 15 (55:27):
And it's kind of fun to watch, man, because you know,
Penn State has been close to getting in in the
past and they don't get in and so they had
their opportunity and they played really really well. But Notre
Dame man just a team that hasn't quit. And Marcus
Freeman a leader of team and men that you can tell.
Speaker 5 (55:44):
Like they love him, they work for him.
Speaker 15 (55:46):
They grind, they play super super hard, and I would
argue they they outperform what they have, which is cool
to see. And they made enough plays. Man, And how
about this their kicker for the season. He was like
he was six of twelve on the season, and he
was seven of eight in the playoffs, absolutely clutch. Like
(56:10):
the one of the biggest knocks I had on him
was like, man, I don't know if the kicking game
will hold up. And then the guy goes seven of
eight hits hitting forty yarders plus and hits the game
winning you know, basically walk off field goal.
Speaker 5 (56:23):
And so that was that was cool to see for
Notre Dame too.
Speaker 1 (56:25):
Well, that was one of the things I saw before
I went to bed. He kicked at Phield go right
before halftime, and I saw that his dad was set
up to get a lot of pictures of him kicking
in this huge game.
Speaker 3 (56:34):
I hope dad got that one.
Speaker 5 (56:35):
Yeah, yeah, you ain't lying, You ain't lying.
Speaker 15 (56:38):
And he transferred over from South Carolina, you know, and
and so like you know, that's the world we live in, right,
Like where did the guy come from? You know, a
lot of transfers, and that's why they brought him because
they needed a kicker to be clutch.
Speaker 5 (56:51):
And make big kicks. And the one before the half
was huge.
Speaker 15 (56:54):
Actually Notre Dame, you know, they lost their they lost
their left tackle in the game, and then the quarterback
goes down in the second quarter and Jelly comes in,
who everybody knows who that is because he hasn't played
at all, goes six for seven on that drive, and
so again, man, it's just Notre Dame lost their best
defensive lineman two games ago in the first round against Indiana,
(57:15):
and they've just kind of been next man up and
not the most talented, but fight and they run the
football really well. And that quarterback man just Riley Leonards
the dude, and I love after the interviews man and
he comes like he's got his crosses on his eyes
and he was like, thank you Jesus. And he's very
clear about where it comes from and his faith and
kind of wears it on his sleeve. But he's also
(57:38):
the heart and soul of that team. He's a running
back and a quarterback like does everything the right way
with an edge and makes.
Speaker 5 (57:47):
You wrong all the time.
Speaker 15 (57:49):
And they just it's been Notre Name season all year long.
They just haven't made mistakes and let the other people
make the mistakes when it matters.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
Is this embellishment? You think this is hyperbole? Said it
earlier in the program. We all you know everybody right
now talking you included we Southern folks, we're SEC people,
all of that, and let me tell you so much
about the SEC.
Speaker 3 (58:11):
I just saw text come up.
Speaker 1 (58:13):
Tell David Pollock that after listening to his podcast, I
feel much differently about him.
Speaker 3 (58:19):
But I still hate the dogs. Okay, so anyway, I
appreciate that. Thank you. That's rivalry right there.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
But anyway, I since watching this playoff and watching these
two iconic programs, I mean they are iconic, but they
have not looked like their team, their championship teams of
old in a long long time, both of them getting better.
Watching the game, it felt like that Penn State and
(58:47):
Notre Dame were more athletic, more physical than I have
seen them in a very long time. Do you do
you agree with that?
Speaker 5 (58:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (58:56):
I think here's the thing. The more we do the nil, yeah, Rick.
And the more the transfer portal, the more the talent
is spreading out. Now, Like there's a lot of kids
that used to go, hey man, I'm gonna go to
Bama and I'm gonna go develop and go get paid
in the NFL. Now it's like, I'm not going to
sit on the bench. I'm gonna go get paid and
(59:18):
go to a different spot. And so it's it's a
different world that we live in and definitely spread out,
and I think it's created more balance in college football.
Speaker 5 (59:28):
To listen, it comes with some headaches.
Speaker 15 (59:31):
Recruiting has been a nightmare for these coaches for several years,
and I feel really.
Speaker 5 (59:34):
Bad for them.
Speaker 15 (59:36):
But as of February, there will be new guardrails which
will be fantastic and you will be a lot of
a certain amount of money. There will be systems in
place that will kind of change the way all of
this wildness and madness works. And then I think it's
amazing that you you find out like kind of who
the innovators are, who knows how to work the system,
(59:57):
who's going to be the first one to develop a
good system. And so it's it's changed college football and
that's yeah. And the twelve team playoff couldn't come in
a more better time because we got people winding about thirteen, fourteen,
fifteen realistically, like it does kind of matter now like
you used to go, you're not gonna win a championship anyways,
(01:00:18):
we know the one or two teams that are gonna
win it.
Speaker 3 (01:00:20):
Yes, right, yeah, good point.
Speaker 15 (01:00:21):
And now like, dude, we look, you had seven playing
six and eight playing you know three, like or eight
playing five or four excuse me, in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (01:00:33):
Like that's what you have now with with seedings.
Speaker 15 (01:00:35):
So it's kind of cool man, more balancing college football,
and the parody's not going away, Like that's that's here
to stay because of the finances and how it all
works now with the coaches and with transfer portal and
nil and all the stuff that goes with it.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
All Right, we'll come back with one more segment with
David Pollock. Now let's look look ahead because now Notre
Dame's in. We've got another game tonight Texas and Ohio State.
So here we go, h David Pollack as our guest.
We talked last night's game. We dabbled uh in the
(01:01:13):
n I L a little bit uh in the transfer portal. Now,
if you are somebody doing play by play, did you
notice how many players last night Pollock and guys? Did
you notice how many times the play by a play? Guy,
Now I have to say, this is so and so
he just transferred here from over there, and then he
(01:01:33):
played one year there, then he transferred here. So you
you really are not anti the transfer portal in the
n I L. You think it's given us a better product,
but we but you're you did say, but we are
going to have some parameters that that maybe will make
it even better.
Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
But you're you're not anti all this freedom.
Speaker 15 (01:01:54):
I'm not saying I love it, okay, because here's the thing, Rick, Like,
as a man, I remember I went to the University
of Georgia, which was fifty five minutes from my house,
fifty five like I mean, a stone's throw away, and
I remember I was homesick, and I remember I wanted
to come home, and like, I just I think there's
(01:02:17):
something too sticking things out and learning the lay of
the land there and meeting people and putting your neck
out there instead of like, oh, I just gave it
a little try and I can leave. So I would
love to, Like there are parameters coming, which is going
to absolutely help the games. Contracts for specific conferences will help.
Like you're gonna be tied, You're gonna be tied to
(01:02:39):
a contract. You're not gonna be able to go anywhere,
kind of like it was with a scholarship. We need
to close the portal during the year. That's ridiculous, like
during the football season. The fact that somebody like you
literally are recruiting your own players while you're playing. And
I don't like that, but I do like I do
like when guys go places rick and the dream was
(01:03:00):
to play at X and they work their tail off
and they're not good enough, right, Like they've been there
a couple of years and you stuck it out and
you tried, but you're not good enough, and you want
to play college football and you want that experience, Like
I think you should be afforded that opportunity. The NIL
has always been weird to me because like coaches can
(01:03:21):
leave any time.
Speaker 5 (01:03:22):
They want, they can go.
Speaker 15 (01:03:24):
They can be an offensive coordinator and go take a
better job and get an upgrade. They can be a
head coach and go to a different school and it's
okay for them. The money is flowing in from the
TV networks and all the different things and every like.
Speaker 5 (01:03:37):
There is not a system in the world.
Speaker 15 (01:03:39):
If you're an art student Rick at x University and
you do a painting and it sells for a million dollars,
you get a million dollars, Like, there is no I
need to do this, I need to do that.
Speaker 10 (01:03:51):
Now.
Speaker 5 (01:03:51):
You don't get it.
Speaker 15 (01:03:52):
The NCAA gets it, Like if you're a musician and
you make a song, you get the money. So there
was some kind of system that needed to be in place.
I just I think the guardrails coming, Thank you Jesus,
Like it makes life easier. There will be a little
bit less mobility probably, and so I would like some
of the tweaks to the rules. But I do like
(01:04:12):
that kids have the opportunity to kind of to go
somewhere else instead of being stuck for multiple years when
they're not contributing.
Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
Carson beck Is the rumor is he's out. He's gonna
jump in the portal and go somewhere else.
Speaker 15 (01:04:27):
Yeah, yeah, And I think he'll end up in Miami.
You know, Carson Carson had a really good year. Obviously,
some ups and downs and some mistakes, but very talented kid.
Speaker 5 (01:04:37):
The surgery he has is six to eight months.
Speaker 15 (01:04:40):
You know, it's if it's really good, Rick, he'll be
back in six starting to get reps. Like it's kind
of some soft toss after like twelve weeks. But I
think that if I think with Carson, I think he
realized if I go in the NFL, which is what
he did at first, if I go be a third
or four round pick, which is what's coming because I'm injured,
(01:05:02):
and I'd argue, you're probably going to be a third
round pick anyways.
Speaker 5 (01:05:06):
You know, I'm not I'm gonna get paid x.
Speaker 15 (01:05:08):
You know, like Spencer Ratler has a four year deal
for four million dollars as a fourth or fifth round pick.
Like that's what you're looking at. You might could get
more in college nowadays.
Speaker 3 (01:05:17):
That's right.
Speaker 15 (01:05:18):
Yeah, I think, yeah, that's that's kind of the world
we that's kind of the world we live in. For
a year, you know, last year he was making a
couple million dollars and obviously people were talking about what
he's driving. But you know, it'll be interesting because I
think he needs another year in college. I think he
needs to mature. I think he needs to learn how
to do this with a team and grow a team
and and still you know, continue to be the best
(01:05:40):
version of him.
Speaker 14 (01:05:41):
Dude.
Speaker 15 (01:05:41):
We're all growing up, man like, we're all maturing, and
at that age you don't have it all together. And
and I think just the the devotion to the to
the team and lov and ball and playing probably a
little bit more consistently will probably help his draft stock.
Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
Let's talk about tonight takes us have any shot at all?
Ohiost looks like they are world beaters right now. I mean,
they seem to be the team that got hot when
the playoff hit. They look unstoppable at times. How do
you see tonight?
Speaker 5 (01:06:12):
Yeah, they've been the best and it's not close.
Speaker 15 (01:06:15):
And you know, it's interesting that they you know a
lot of times a loss will piss you off and
you'll play with more motivation and you'll see people come together.
And that has absolutely happened for Ohio State. But schematically,
I would argue this is the most I've ever seen
a team change. Yeah, from the season to the playoffs.
And I say that like when you watch their offense.
(01:06:36):
Like I've known Chip Kelly for years and I love
the way he you know, runs the inside you know zone,
the all the options principal type stuff that he runs
with the zone.
Speaker 5 (01:06:46):
Read like, I love all that stuff.
Speaker 15 (01:06:48):
But the way he's shifted and morphed and he went
he's running more counter now like they're throwing the football.
Like Jeremiah Smith spent a whole season, you know, playing
the ex position primarily the light out position out wide.
They're moving him in the slot. Now that's a problem.
Like he's got thirteen catches for two ninety and four
(01:07:08):
touchdowns in the playoffs. And by the way, Rick, if
you had a draft this year, that guy's going in
the top five, like super human, freakazoid. No, that's how
good he is a wide receiver. I mean, he's incredible.
And then Abukam like Ohio State literally goes, we just
lost to Michigan.
Speaker 5 (01:07:28):
We are bull crap.
Speaker 15 (01:07:30):
This is unacceptable, right, and we're gonna fix it and
we're gonna change who we are. And they revamped the offense.
They revamp the defense because the defense starts running way
more coverage, cover two different looks, and they have come
out and dominated and man, I just I think it's
gonna be hard to stay with them. And now Texas
(01:07:50):
has the best secondary in the country, so that's a
good matchup. In the back end. They don't play a
ton of man to man. That's good because four is
not a man. You want to play man and neither neither.
Speaker 5 (01:08:01):
Is a BUKA.
Speaker 15 (01:08:02):
So this offense passing interested to see how Texas attacks it.
But Texas secondary has the best chance to slow them
down and not give up those explosives in the back end.
And then Texas getting healthy on the offensive line. Their
right tackle dress.
Speaker 5 (01:08:18):
For the last game.
Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
That's play that's important.
Speaker 15 (01:08:20):
Left he's a first round pick. Yeah, that's pretty good.
Left tackle has been banged up with an ankle. I
think this is the healthiest they've been. They've got the
best offensive line in football. Can they run the football,
pound the rock, do some play action, play a little
keep away, not give up the big plays.
Speaker 5 (01:08:37):
Ohio State is clearly the.
Speaker 15 (01:08:39):
Favorite, but Texas, I think is your last chance to
really stop them because Notre Dames recipe is man the
man aggressive.
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
No, don't do that like this.
Speaker 5 (01:08:49):
That won't work. That won't work again.
Speaker 3 (01:08:51):
Ask Oregon how that went.
Speaker 5 (01:08:52):
Yeah, yeah, it don't work.
Speaker 3 (01:08:54):
That was ugly.
Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
Pollock, thanks for being with us. I'm loving this. Maybe
we can continue to do this some other updates. Tell
everybody about you your podcast or quickly like if I
if I want all things David Pollack, what can I do?
Speaker 5 (01:09:09):
David Pollack?
Speaker 15 (01:09:09):
College Football is the podcast on YouTube?
Speaker 10 (01:09:13):
Now.
Speaker 5 (01:09:14):
I know you've been doing this stuff for years. I'm
learning the world, which is which is weird.
Speaker 15 (01:09:17):
But I can actually go in a room now, Rick
and set up a camera, so that's like a.
Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
Look at your old victory.
Speaker 5 (01:09:22):
I couldn't even do that back in the day.
Speaker 3 (01:09:24):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:09:26):
So just learning, learning this world.
Speaker 8 (01:09:28):
Man.
Speaker 15 (01:09:28):
I just I love college football like I love it.
I love to watch it. Me and my son watch
it and break it down seven ways. Last night we're
sitting there watching the game. Penn State gets the ball
with thirty eight seconds left, and he was like, would
you be aggressive? And I'm like, not with Drew Aller, not.
Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
The way he's playing, that's not and that's fun.
Speaker 15 (01:09:44):
And then yeah, it's awesome. He throws a pick and
it was bad. But and then dude, tell me you
ever thought this was possible? I wrote a book writing
another book now the book has a lot of pictures.
Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
It's a children's book.
Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
This is the rick Burgers Show.
Speaker 3 (01:10:07):
So well, you're stranded and we're not.
Speaker 1 (01:10:11):
This was supposed to be a half a day to
afternoon deal for us today maybe late afternoon, and that's
not tomorrow, and that's not Sunday.
Speaker 3 (01:10:21):
No, you ain't going nowhere, show up change. I don't know.
We have no coverage because the snow is taken over.
Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
Well, this is the problem if you if you use satellite,
if it snows, it fills up the satellite and you
have no signal.
Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
That's it freaked Greg out even more. Yeah, of course
I sent you SPAN's the latest update.
Speaker 5 (01:10:37):
Greg.
Speaker 3 (01:10:37):
Have you listened it again?
Speaker 10 (01:10:38):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:10:38):
That was like a five. Okay, all right, so next
thing power I want you.
Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
You're with me, I know, especially I think for the
audience that Speedy and Greg have to go out and
do something in the snow.
Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
You dont a snowball at me. I ain't got a
problem with that. Look, I don't throw it at his face.
So if it's got a bunch of eyes, oh nothing
above the shoulders, that standard. Yeah, but I mean in
the forehead, all right, So I can y'all do this.
Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
I mean hands Adler is gonna be able to shoot that?
Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
Do I need to zoom in?
Speaker 7 (01:11:07):
Are we doing it right this second?
Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
Now we can come out and do it next Seayon.
I can see you panic, But.
Speaker 7 (01:11:13):
You know what, it would be nice to have you
zoom in so we can get live audio because if
I'm just shooting through the window, We're not going to
get the good audio. So let's do have you zoom
in if that's okay? And what are we doing exactly
playing in the snow?
Speaker 4 (01:11:24):
Are you going to show the video of the guy
on the side by side.
Speaker 7 (01:11:28):
I'm actually trying to get that uploaded right now because
that was awesome we captured that.
Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
That was so cool.
Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
Okay, So Adler, I don't know who you are right now? Okay,
because it seems like you're not doubling down. Your nemesis,
Greg has just said to millions that he was willing
to take a snowball from Speedy, and you're almost like,
are you're just gonna play in the snow? Why are
you not doubling down on this?
Speaker 7 (01:11:50):
Well, I know that that Speedy is gonna take it
too far and he can handle it. Yeah, yeah, Speed,
I know Speedy will double double cross him in a second.
Speaker 13 (01:11:58):
It's great.
Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
Here's what I think many times, I think it's actually
more than that. I think you think somehow Speedy's pulling
you in this. True, he's after you in some way.
I can tell Speedy will.
Speaker 7 (01:12:07):
Double cross anybody in a second.
Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
He will. We're making little rope he has in the past.
Smoke while I do that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:15):
But he's pulled you into a few handles in the past.
Throwing the ball hard at him. Oh no, he's just
he was like that real quick. You've messed with him
a little bit over the years. Yeah, you've messed with
a little bit. But I think that the fact that
he's been so passive about the fact that Greg's agreeing
to take a snowball, you would think Adam would live
for this.
Speaker 4 (01:12:33):
I know, well, I thought Greg was going to open
his hands and arms up like this and just go
here we go.
Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
That's what the old Greg would have done.
Speaker 7 (01:12:41):
Is kind of going along with it. I'm not having
to really push him.
Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
He's look, I said I would do it, I'll do it.
Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
Can I tell what I think you're doing? And you're
being smart. It's almost too good to be true. You're
afraid to believe it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
Now, slow snowball, we all know it can I get
no great speedy what.
Speaker 7 (01:13:01):
Don't don't count your chickens before they're first of all
on the ground.
Speaker 1 (01:13:05):
Yeah, first of all, First of all, first of all,
when you get out there, the first thing you got
to deal with is that thing. Because I remember so
much being a little chubby. Everything's all. Mama's got a
couple of jackets on me. I don't know much about snow.
And you get all excited about it and you get
out there, and that snow makes your hands so cold
it's gonna be. I mean, your hands get so cold.
(01:13:26):
You want to go in, you want to put the fire.
Do you remember how many times you try it with
your little mitten zone and then we get stuck to
the fall.
Speaker 3 (01:13:31):
They never would be.
Speaker 1 (01:13:33):
So you got to get there and see if you
can get a good snowball to actually hold together and
all that.
Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
We don't have to do it. We have to do it. Greg, Oh,
it's going to hold together a little slush.
Speaker 7 (01:13:42):
Hey, if we've got one minute, we can watch that video.
Speaker 3 (01:13:44):
Yeah, sure, audio on this.
Speaker 7 (01:13:48):
Yes, yeah, you got here. This was just good timing.
Speaker 3 (01:13:50):
Here here's somebody who.
Speaker 7 (01:13:57):
Duet, Oh my gosh, this is real snow.
Speaker 4 (01:14:02):
It really really snow, It really snowed says you could.
Speaker 1 (01:14:07):
Oh oh he's got a side by side of the parking.
Speaker 3 (01:14:12):
Yeah, that's one him raising. Oh yeah, oh he s'sould
live for this.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
He's to live for He never thought he were be
able to have snow that looks like a black Here
he goes, stay out.
Speaker 16 (01:14:26):
Look at that.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
There he goes, what if crashed into Speedy's trunk? Well,
that's you couldn't hear me here?
Speaker 4 (01:14:32):
I said, please don't come over here by the drugs
in my mind like out loud, Oh hey, that's good,
we'll come over here.
Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
Uh So, as we as we're working our way back,
snow has fallen on the Sweet Home, Alabama, which is
where we do the show from, and a lot of
you out there no matter where you catch the show.
I mean, it's it's a wild variety. We already got
texting from Tampa, Florida. They're like, no, we had seventy
but but a lot of people are.
Speaker 3 (01:15:03):
Getting snow today that normally don't.
Speaker 1 (01:15:07):
Uh So it's all new and it's all exciting and
and all of that. So so we have you know,
we're kind of treating this almost like when we were
kids and you get a snow day. Uh and uh
and so Speedy and Greg have actually gone outside the studio.
Uh where we we got a pretty good snow today.
What do you think out there? About four inches?
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:15:28):
Uh?
Speaker 10 (01:15:29):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
And there they are, there is Greg if you're watching
on the YouTube option. Uh and also we'll we'll get
you some pictures from this for the rest of you.
Speaker 5 (01:15:37):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:15:37):
So there's Greg and and Speedy. What what exactly are
they doing?
Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
All right?
Speaker 1 (01:15:42):
So there's there's they both have their their new this.
Greg's already throwing Wow.
Speaker 7 (01:15:47):
Gregs threw it right at the window.
Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
Greg throwing us. Yeah, we hear you the snow yeah
yeah yeah.
Speaker 17 (01:15:56):
So all right, So basically what it is is you
kind of they're kind of like, you know, they're kind.
Speaker 7 (01:16:01):
Of a little aware.
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
Sure you just hit Greg right the chance?
Speaker 16 (01:16:04):
Yeah, okay.
Speaker 17 (01:16:05):
Basically like when you get like this, it's a little tough,
but like you can come here a little.
Speaker 3 (01:16:12):
Bit, Greg, they're not they're not holding together.
Speaker 16 (01:16:15):
No, I want to show you something real, hold it working. Come,
I want to show you something you see that.
Speaker 1 (01:16:21):
See that's what you were talking about.
Speaker 15 (01:16:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (01:16:24):
Yeah, it is very very cold though.
Speaker 3 (01:16:27):
If you take them and do this with them.
Speaker 6 (01:16:30):
Oh oh god, at the window, that's gonna brust them.
Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
So it is kind of like an ice ball, isn't
a little bit?
Speaker 16 (01:16:38):
Yeah, Greg, come here real quick, they said, they want
to see you real quick. Come here real quick. A
little bit closer.
Speaker 3 (01:16:48):
Much to take a boat on snowball?
Speaker 18 (01:16:49):
Well?
Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
Yeah, Greg, anybody Darren, Greg gets you. That's right off
the parking lot. Can you imagine it? Just say one
of those out?
Speaker 7 (01:16:59):
My god, Greg, Hey, that's not yellow snow, is it?
Speaker 9 (01:17:03):
Now?
Speaker 3 (01:17:03):
I like to see one of Hey, look, you know what?
Just hit me? Guys, Can y'all hear me out there?
Can you hear me? Speedy? They can't coming back?
Speaker 5 (01:17:12):
What'd you say?
Speaker 3 (01:17:13):
I said? Can y'all hear me?
Speaker 13 (01:17:15):
Now?
Speaker 16 (01:17:15):
We can't.
Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
So you know this, I just walked through the building
like you were talking about. I think we're the only
people in this entire building.
Speaker 16 (01:17:22):
Oh we are?
Speaker 9 (01:17:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:17:23):
I mean it feels like home, remember home alone? Yeah,
it feels like home alone. Yeah, what do y'all needs
to get in one of your trucks and see how
see how it acts in the parking lot? Oh yeah,
you know, I'm not saying put yourself in like by
hurting your truck, like like staying in it and spinning,
but like, you know, just to see, you know what,
I mean, to see how it would drive. I mean
(01:17:43):
how driveable is that. I don't mean be crazy, I just.
Speaker 7 (01:17:46):
Mean my wife's car is right there too. Please stay
away from my wife's car.
Speaker 3 (01:17:51):
This is gonna end bad in that shouldn't have brought
this up.
Speaker 4 (01:17:53):
Yeah, well, hey, let me ask you a question, right, okay,
when when he was little, what what did you do
to kind of get him to do stuff?
Speaker 16 (01:17:58):
Did you say he wouldn't do it?
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
Yeah, I would say I would say that. Well, I'd
rather not say, but but yes I would. I would.
Speaker 1 (01:18:05):
I would just go ahead as we saw a Christmas story,
I wouldn't. I rarely got to the triple dog there,
but usually with him a double dog, there was plenty.
Speaker 17 (01:18:13):
Hey, Greg, huh oh, Greg, I got girl, Greg, I
got something for you.
Speaker 7 (01:18:21):
Hang on, hang on so much snow on the windshield?
Speaker 3 (01:18:23):
Yeah, there's a lot out there.
Speaker 16 (01:18:25):
Hold on just a.
Speaker 7 (01:18:25):
Second, and we don't have the tools to pull this off.
Speaker 3 (01:18:29):
I just saw your truck. Who scratched it?
Speaker 16 (01:18:31):
Huh oh? That'd be Greg rick Burgess.
Speaker 3 (01:18:35):
All right, so what yep? What would happened? Are we going?
Speaker 5 (01:18:42):
Huh?
Speaker 17 (01:18:44):
Well, I can't find I can't find my eye thing,
But I got this, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:18:50):
I'm thinking I'm fighting everything in my inner beings for
going out there and Reben.
Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
Greg's facing the snow.
Speaker 7 (01:18:57):
You just brushed snow into your car.
Speaker 6 (01:19:00):
You went into your the door while you're brushing. When
you're brushing, shut the door.
Speaker 4 (01:19:05):
Gosh, Greg, we're not You're not used to this, guys,
we're great, great, great, great, Greg, do me a favor.
Speaker 16 (01:19:09):
Get in the car. You please get in the car
and quit telling me nothing's gonna work.
Speaker 3 (01:19:14):
Is he is he?
Speaker 13 (01:19:14):
Is he?
Speaker 3 (01:19:15):
Is he being Greg down? Or has he been all negative?
Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (01:19:18):
Weird?
Speaker 7 (01:19:20):
That's unusual.
Speaker 4 (01:19:21):
All right, hold on when I get that side, Greg,
But what are y'all trying to do?
Speaker 16 (01:19:26):
Is now the wister wipers?
Speaker 1 (01:19:29):
I say, you're wanting to drive the truck right now,
so I can see that works. But you're saying it's
in a bit of a bind. Okay, Well, if it
won't work, that's fine, because to warm up and all
I can't.
Speaker 16 (01:19:39):
Feel my I can't fiel my fingers.
Speaker 7 (01:19:42):
I should have put on gloves before doing that.
Speaker 3 (01:19:44):
It's a lot of snow right now. It's working.
Speaker 16 (01:19:47):
Yeah, you say he wouldn't do stuff. Yeah, but Rick
said that. Rick said that you won't get out here
and get after it.
Speaker 3 (01:19:55):
No, no, I don't want it. Oh gosh, Oh there's
so much snow going quick. Greg went off him.
Speaker 19 (01:20:01):
He said, he said that you won't do nothing because
you're scared and you're old.
Speaker 7 (01:20:14):
That was just took up.
Speaker 3 (01:20:18):
He's gonna get speed truck if he hits Speedy's truck.
This is a radio.
Speaker 16 (01:20:23):
He's got new tire.
Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
Oh, and he thinks he's sharp to go out there. Greg,
Greg stay in the parking lot.
Speaker 7 (01:20:30):
Couldn't you think?
Speaker 3 (01:20:31):
I think Greg's on his way.
Speaker 7 (01:20:32):
He's gonna eat that curve.
Speaker 5 (01:20:34):
Watch how.
Speaker 3 (01:20:37):
Here we go, Speedy?
Speaker 7 (01:20:44):
If he crashes into something, hold the camera.
Speaker 3 (01:20:46):
Still you please? Oh no, he didn't even read that part.
You need to be around that.
Speaker 10 (01:20:53):
Oh.
Speaker 17 (01:20:54):
He said that he wants you to get right there
and you can woo didn't say that, and he.
Speaker 16 (01:20:58):
Said you probably won't do it. There's you get scaredy
get right here and just kind of go.
Speaker 7 (01:21:03):
And drive past the window.
Speaker 3 (01:21:04):
This is the you know when you do one more
past the window? Yeah, this is to do one more?
You do what? Okay?
Speaker 7 (01:21:10):
Here you go. He's spinning out.
Speaker 1 (01:21:12):
Yeah, he's coming past the window. And there's too many
vehicles over there.
Speaker 7 (01:21:15):
And why did you tell him to do that?
Speaker 3 (01:21:20):
Why did you tell him to do that? He shouldn't
be around those other vehicles? There he goes, saw him?
Did you see him go by? Yes? Okay, there he is.
Speaker 7 (01:21:31):
All right, I was gonna hit my wife's car. Yeah,
I'm telling I am very afraid of my wife.
Speaker 3 (01:21:36):
He goes again. Why did you tell him to come out?
My gosh, he's got Okay, he's okay.
Speaker 16 (01:21:42):
How's it going, buddy?
Speaker 6 (01:21:43):
That's kind of fun, but it's got that anti slid
things kind of messing me up.
Speaker 17 (01:21:48):
That and plus you're kind of scared to kind of
really get around.
Speaker 16 (01:21:53):
Yes, all right, well look I think we're gonna wrap
it up.
Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
Look at those eyes, Adler, Look at those eyes.
Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
He's now looking for the next place to go and
try to just see if you can't do a donut.
It does look fun, yeah, but it's why would we
do this?
Speaker 7 (01:22:04):
Oh my goodness, wow, that's my car.
Speaker 1 (01:22:08):
Okay, shut your door, speeded Okay, woll Greg really came
close to the speedish car. Yeah, my heart is I may
have scratched it with a Christmas tree, but at least
I didn't ram it. Yes, you know, so, so it's good,
all right, wow, okay, so so it's amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
Okay that that really looked like a lot of fun
to me.
Speaker 16 (01:22:26):
That is, Hey, Greg, Hey, Grig, I act like you're
interviewing somebody. Ask him how it was?
Speaker 1 (01:22:32):
Hey, Hey, so tell me how it was out there?
How was it driving out there?
Speaker 18 (01:22:35):
Greg?
Speaker 3 (01:22:36):
It's a little thick and uh, I couldn't get a
good spin.
Speaker 16 (01:22:38):
It's real thick. But you know, I was kind of
loosening and turns tight going in. Yeah, well where you
where are you from?
Speaker 7 (01:22:46):
Sir muck?
Speaker 3 (01:22:54):
Hey, thanks guys.
Speaker 16 (01:22:56):
How solid am I for these boots right here?
Speaker 5 (01:22:58):
Hear me?
Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
It's like the break on h speedy.
Speaker 1 (01:23:01):
We took We took care of him with boots and
and and and a toboggan.
Speaker 19 (01:23:05):
Yeah, uh it.
Speaker 7 (01:23:07):
This auto.
Speaker 3 (01:23:09):
Right top of the.
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
Hour is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:23:20):
One of the other things that came away from our
business summit, not our hunt, our business summit at Camp House,
was a little something called the Big Vox verdict, and
that is when we uh speedy, Greg and I will
be the jury.
Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
Adler will be the judge.
Speaker 1 (01:23:40):
Uh So it will be an odd number of people
on the vote. We listen to two sides of a
story from friends, husbands and wives, whatever the case may be, brothers, sisters, family,
and then we rule on who is right in this situation.
And then these people agree if they come on the show,
either in the studio or they come on the show
(01:24:02):
via phone, they agree that our verdict will now be
how they will live this out the rest of their lives. Okay, okay,
and we go to Michigan. Strangely enough, I'm supposed to
be there tomorrow night, I hope. So, Joe, you said
you and your friend are there on the phone right now.
Speaker 4 (01:24:19):
Correct, that is correct, And actually it's my dad, so
present to us.
Speaker 3 (01:24:27):
The disagreement are just yesterday.
Speaker 8 (01:24:30):
It was because of yesterday.
Speaker 18 (01:24:32):
So we were arguing which planet is the best planet? Okay,
And I told I told my dad that that Pluto
is the best planet. And I'll give you three reasons
why I think Pluto's the best planet. Number one is cold.
You guys got snow down there when it's cold out
you can always throw more clothes on than if it's hot.
(01:24:55):
You can only take so much off our number two,
it's a dwarf planet, just like Adler and short people
are are awesome. And then and then number is number
Go ahead, I agree.
Speaker 8 (01:25:09):
All right, number three Pluto is full of this from Uranus.
Speaker 3 (01:25:17):
Okay, there's this case, Dad, what do you say?
Speaker 10 (01:25:23):
I say that Uranus is better because of one. They've
got about thirteen rings and my calculations, that's about five
more than Satan.
Speaker 1 (01:25:38):
Okay.
Speaker 10 (01:25:39):
They've also been visited once, but it's also been visited once.
Speaker 1 (01:25:45):
Really, Okay, I didn't know that. I know I've told
people to visit mine before, but it's just okay, doctor's appointment.
Speaker 10 (01:25:52):
And the big ticer is is that Greg likes Urinus.
Speaker 1 (01:25:57):
Okay, okay, okay, so I know what Greg's gonna do.
Speaker 3 (01:26:03):
Yeah, So here we go.
Speaker 1 (01:26:05):
Wow, our ruling will be final, and this will be
how y'all y'all on this argument going forward? Uh, this
will be the final word on this. Which one of
you is right? What is the best planet between Pluto
and Uranus?
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
Gregor your vote? Well, considering this is AO, is this
how we do it?
Speaker 10 (01:26:24):
Now?
Speaker 6 (01:26:25):
Considering that Pluto. We can't decide whether it is a
planet or not. Does a mark against that? And I
always say, if you can't make the call, always go
with yours.
Speaker 3 (01:26:33):
Okay, speeding away.
Speaker 7 (01:26:37):
You always say that, Greg is something I.
Speaker 3 (01:26:39):
Always says it in pass. I mean, what do you do?
And you just go with yours?
Speaker 1 (01:26:45):
Right?
Speaker 3 (01:26:45):
Hey? Normally Uranus won't let you down. Okay, And you're
voting with Greg on this? Oh, nothing can be your anus?
Speaker 13 (01:26:52):
All right?
Speaker 1 (01:26:55):
Well, I will say, and I'm with Greg on this.
I think I think Pluto's got problems. Yeah, it's got
problems because what they brought to the court here for
the big vox verdict. They brought to us what is
the best planet of these two? And we can't even
decide if Pluto is a planet? Okay, So to me,
(01:27:17):
Pluto has got trouble there. So I think in this
case Dad is right with a unanimous verdict.
Speaker 3 (01:27:26):
Dad's right again. Yeah, it's always go with your ant.
Speaker 1 (01:27:29):
So Judge Adler for the jury says we find Uranus
to be the better planet over Pluto.
Speaker 7 (01:27:35):
Wow, okay. So at this point, see I'm a little
out of my element right now because I still don't
have my judge costume. I'm working on getting it here.
You can see. That's what I'll be dressed as. And
the only reason, the only reason, Oh sexy judge. Okay,
I want that. I don't want that costume. So I
don't have a gavel yet, so I'm just going to
(01:27:55):
bang this screwdriver and the prosecution rests.
Speaker 3 (01:28:00):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:28:00):
So so Joe in Michigan and Dad, it looks like
Dad as normal, is right.
Speaker 3 (01:28:07):
Okay, and Dad's usually right.
Speaker 1 (01:28:09):
Yeah, so go big Go, Big Blue. So how far
from Coldwater, Michigan?
Speaker 5 (01:28:12):
Are go?
Speaker 8 (01:28:14):
I am well? I am uh in Michigan.
Speaker 3 (01:28:17):
Dad is in Virginia, okay.
Speaker 8 (01:28:19):
And so I am in Jackson, which is probably a
little over an hour from cold Water. When I found
out you were going to be in there, I looked
it up. But I'm not certain i'll be able to
make it.
Speaker 3 (01:28:29):
Oh man, I would love that. If there's any way,
then come city.
Speaker 1 (01:28:33):
And now I don't have the official word that I'm going,
but I think if this is over and it all
melts away, I'm sure I'll be going.
Speaker 8 (01:28:42):
Well, it's you guys got more slow than we do here, So.
Speaker 1 (01:28:45):
Yeah, there you go. I understand it's cold there though,
but it usually is in the winter.
Speaker 8 (01:28:48):
Right right, yes it is.
Speaker 1 (01:28:51):
Let me ask you this, do I go turtleneck? Because well,
yesterday my wife came home. One of them is the
shirt I have on that I really like. Very common, sure,
very comfortable. But then she also awkwardly got me a
turtleneck and she said, well, you're going to Michigan. It's
going to be really really cold. You might want to
wear this. I don't know that I wear a turtleneck
to speak to dudes and and you know, like small
(01:29:14):
town Michigan.
Speaker 3 (01:29:15):
I just don't think so I agree. Okay.
Speaker 8 (01:29:19):
I mean, if you're going to be outside, which probably
not very much, you don't need to. I mean you'll
be outside in the flash and you'll be back and
where it's for one.
Speaker 1 (01:29:27):
Okay, all right, well thanks Joe, and thanks Dad. Congratulations Dad.
I'm getting the verdict.
Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
I thought that did a great job. They had these facts.
That was good. That was good. So that's a turtleneck
all day.
Speaker 1 (01:29:40):
Well, I love this shirt that I'm wearing right now.
That shirt got me love this shirt. Okay, this is
a win. Okay, the turtleneck are you talking about.
Speaker 6 (01:29:48):
One of these?
Speaker 1 (01:29:49):
I mean showing enough turtle necks, show enough turtleck Steve
Josh when she when she brought in and said, he,
I got you a couple of new shirts. First thing
I looked at that turn? Will you do me a favorite?
Money didn't come in with that turtle neck. I mean,
you don't have to keep it on that, but I
want you to walk in well. And then there's this
other thing, you know, and y'all know this. We've talked
about it a lot on the show, and I don't
know what to do about it. I've done T shirts
(01:30:09):
and whatever, but you know, if I wear a shirt
that is not real thick like this, I always have
a nipple issue.
Speaker 7 (01:30:16):
Really yeah, and I always do.
Speaker 3 (01:30:18):
I always do. Yeah, I always never.
Speaker 7 (01:30:20):
Really distracting when I'm trying to shoot video contract I.
Speaker 1 (01:30:23):
Know, I know it's been a struggle for me. I
have a really cool shirt and I'm like, well, I can't.
It's always you know, people comment on it when I'm
something on the Instagram and I'll put it like a
T shirt on and it doesn't seem.
Speaker 3 (01:30:34):
To be able to stop the shy.
Speaker 1 (01:30:36):
Yeah, I don't have so this material of the turtleneck
is for some reason the first thing I put it on.
First of all, felt like somebody was trying to mug me.
And then I looked in and I said, well, there's
the nipples again.
Speaker 3 (01:30:48):
Now you can't do you talk about nipples and turtle. Yeah,
you have to do something right.
Speaker 4 (01:30:53):
So I very, you know, Terry, when I wear wear
thin shirts, it's not the nipple issue. But she says,
you can see the hair on my chest, and yes,
you see. I can't, you know, just being such a man,
I can't deal with you need.
Speaker 7 (01:31:10):
To wear nippies. It's like with the marathon runners. Just
wear that every day of your life.
Speaker 3 (01:31:16):
I think I'm gonna get me a dicky. We'll be back.
Speaker 2 (01:31:19):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:31:26):
So anyway, how did we not let the dad who
won the first ever big Vox verdict not get to
spin the wheel?
Speaker 3 (01:31:36):
That was he got the verdict. That's up to the judge.
Speaker 6 (01:31:42):
It's clearly on that and we should have done that.
Speaker 1 (01:31:45):
All right, we'll make a note of that. Where's just
the jury? Speaking of verdict? Does Trump get he gets sentenced?
Speaker 3 (01:31:51):
Today? Yes? What's going on with? What does this look like?
Speaker 1 (01:31:54):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:31:55):
They say he's not going to get jail time, but
it just feels weird that a president's about to take
office is getting sent Yeah, that's not happened on all
the made up charges where there was no victim, right.
Speaker 6 (01:32:04):
But I mean, so he gets sentenced today, then what
does he just pardoned himself as soon as he gets
sworn in?
Speaker 3 (01:32:09):
Is this because I mean, why even show up and
do this?
Speaker 7 (01:32:11):
Well, Judge Wan Marshawan, who has said he's not going
to give Trump jail time, he has said that. Okay,
he's now on the bench and sentencing is proceeding as
as we speak.
Speaker 3 (01:32:21):
We can't okay, okay. Sorry.
Speaker 6 (01:32:23):
Are they saying we just want to close this out
and move on or is this some kind of little tricky.
Speaker 7 (01:32:29):
Well, Trump's team tried to get it delayed, and it
went all the way to the streame Supreme Court, and
you had Thomas Alito, gorsicch and Kavanaugh that said, yes,
that's delay it. But Justice Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett
both went the other way and said, let's I.
Speaker 3 (01:32:44):
Know, I thought that was interesting. Do you think they
just want to get it over with?
Speaker 7 (01:32:47):
I guess so.
Speaker 3 (01:32:48):
Yeah, And it's not going to meet pardon himself. Right,
this is state.
Speaker 1 (01:32:53):
That's good New York Hush Money by the way, adverts
something else to think about. First installment of the Big
Box verdict would technically be a mistrot Adlers. Adler spoke
up and revealed his bias toward a small planet. The
judge can't speak or interject. You got a lot to learn,
objection until until the verdict. Judge Adler needs to remember this.
Speaker 3 (01:33:16):
That's yeah, not good. Okay, so you.
Speaker 7 (01:33:19):
Have you know, we got some stuff to work out.
I'm still learning all my court jargon and stuff like that.
You don't have your wig and I don't have my wig.
I don't have a hammer, I don't have my bib,
but we do have three on the jury, so we're
not going to end up with like a hung jury
or anything like that.
Speaker 3 (01:33:33):
So doing good.
Speaker 6 (01:33:35):
But anyway, so people texting, you know, there's all kinds
of things that are coming in on the text. Okay,
this text option is one of those things you look
back and you go, I don't know whether we regret
this or we love it.
Speaker 1 (01:33:47):
Right now, I'm leaning love. By the way, there's people.
Is it one person, I think or multiple? I've seen
multiple and I've never wanted to address this before because
I thought, what what good would it do? But but
somebody's noticed because right now we're not covering the breaks
on YouTube. You just watch us wander around the studio
(01:34:09):
shoot basketball, and.
Speaker 3 (01:34:10):
I'm ready to turn that off.
Speaker 6 (01:34:11):
Do whatever picker noses, you know. And so so someone said,
I guess it's when Greg was moving around, if it
was a snow thing, that they did not know that
Greg was bullcked. And it looks nothing against bow legged people,
nothing against bow legged people. But I've never been told
that I was bowlegged. Yeah, I'm getting a little older.
(01:34:31):
Oh you don't act like you know I had?
Speaker 5 (01:34:34):
I had.
Speaker 1 (01:34:35):
I mean, I'm not stand up for I'm not saying
I don't think. I'm not saying that you look like
you just got off a horse. I'm not going that far.
I see what they're saying, but a little boat. I've
always thought this, it's the left one they're talking about.
Have you ever seen a bow leg Barrit And somebody's
rump I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (01:34:51):
That Greg, But people are saying that you look.
Speaker 6 (01:34:54):
People are saying some one person who like just like
the guy that's so worried about who hits the damn
ouse shot?
Speaker 3 (01:35:00):
Right? The Spanish gonna give you an update here, and yeah,
don't get angry. I'm just saying, don't have that count
be like it. Don't look like you just got off
a horse cloth. You remember a lot of them. One
day he actually said, was that from being aligneman? First
of all, you're in a can like that?
Speaker 6 (01:35:20):
Well he had get your mouth the phone he did get,
but I was told not to fixed it. Well anyway, yeah,
because you got to stick your mouth on it. But anyway,
he said, maybe from climbing a pole. And I said, well,
first of all, it's been about sixteen years since I've
done that, so that can't be it, right, So I
don't know if and y'all don't y'all never thought it.
Speaker 3 (01:35:38):
Y'all acting like you have right now, I see it. No,
That's why I'm finest.
Speaker 1 (01:35:41):
I remember when you were little, and oh here you go,
and every fault and everybody was calling you fifty pounder,
and you weren't very big, and you were a little
bit of a sickly child, and I thought to myself,
And when I noticed it the first time, I thought, well,
he's been doing enough. And I didn't want to hang bow.
Speaker 6 (01:35:57):
Leg on you. You were the one that was club
footed bad. We got pictures of you and like cast
on your legs, so there was obviously something wrong with you.
Speaker 4 (01:36:05):
Now you're just thwing talking about leg problems. Right, somebody
had sent a picture of your legs. He's like a horseshoe.
Speaker 3 (01:36:16):
That's fine.
Speaker 6 (01:36:17):
If I'm bow leg I know a lot of great
bow legged people, so you know, but I'm just saying
I've never been told I was.
Speaker 7 (01:36:23):
Here's the actual picture of you.
Speaker 13 (01:36:26):
You know.
Speaker 6 (01:36:27):
Somebody you know asked a minute ago, said do we
ever think about any other another name for the show
than just using, you know, the the Rick Burgess as
the host? And and there was when we looked at
and I thought, well, I'm not gonna do it, and
it was Ricking the Horse.
Speaker 5 (01:36:40):
You.
Speaker 3 (01:36:44):
Cowboy Rick and Bucky Rick.
Speaker 4 (01:36:52):
So, uh well, it's just it's not it's just that
it's slight.
Speaker 3 (01:36:56):
It's just bare.
Speaker 1 (01:36:57):
No, great, don't let people pick on you in the text.
They'll get stuff going.
Speaker 10 (01:37:02):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:37:02):
It's not as bad as a chat room where people
but just think they can say anything. Somebody's beat down,
unlike y'all have been sitting these chairs for thirty years.
Speaker 3 (01:37:10):
Is that that?
Speaker 1 (01:37:16):
But if you're asking me if you're if you're asking
me to my all my lifetime of knowing you, did
I ever think that you were bow legged? The answer
is no, I mean you considered it is that what
you're saying. One, there were a couple of times, little bow.
Speaker 3 (01:37:33):
Leg Would you rather be bow legged or not? Need?
Speaker 5 (01:37:35):
Right?
Speaker 3 (01:37:36):
What's not?
Speaker 15 (01:37:36):
Need not?
Speaker 6 (01:37:38):
I'd rather be bow legging those knock need people all day.
You're probably talking to a few. Boy, Yeah, there's nothing
wrong with that. Always they look like they're about to
collapse at all time.
Speaker 1 (01:37:47):
People listening not a stable base issue, not a stable
bak listening and watching them may have this issue. I
know that's nothing you ever think about, but but I
want you to be aware of that. I mean, I thought,
but I'm about tired of the camera. I can't shoot
a basketball and bow legged. And by the way, y'all,
(01:38:10):
this is this is a game. This is not a
basketball court. And not let me go on record, I'm
terrible at basketball.
Speaker 3 (01:38:15):
I am. I'll admit that. I mean, you won't fight. Fine,
you're right, I was all county. I don't want to
get in that. This ain't my game.
Speaker 6 (01:38:23):
Sorry, hey in basketballuntil he got too large and move
him out.
Speaker 3 (01:38:30):
He's so injured. I mean, please have spend talk to him.
If we don't go.
Speaker 4 (01:38:35):
Where he can see the weather, he's gonna lose his mind.
Speaker 3 (01:38:38):
But y'all don't have a commute. I need to know.
Speaker 4 (01:38:41):
I'm willing to do something so that the dishes that
that we received the satellite of them there came with
snow and ice and so we can't see the TVs. Right, Yeah,
I'm likely to just sneak up onto the roof and
and we're here.
Speaker 3 (01:38:57):
We can get that little at the little broom. I
can sweep them off.
Speaker 11 (01:39:00):
Ye.
Speaker 3 (01:39:00):
I mean, plus, I would just like to do that.
Is that right? You've got to know how to do that? Yeah,
well i'd like to. I didn't thank you bow Leg Sweedy,
why don't Why don't you? And Marshall Billins Joe.
Speaker 9 (01:39:20):
Yeah, I'm hurting. Was strange.
Speaker 3 (01:39:47):
Top the hour.
Speaker 2 (01:39:49):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:39:57):
Granger is going to be speaking at one of our
man church conferences. Is coming up really the one that
is coming up the nearest actually this month twenty fourth
and twenty fifth there at Gardendale First Baptist Church that's
in Birmingham, Alabama, or just north of Birmingham and we'll
be We've got hotel blocks there. You can see the
entire lineup that'll be speaking. You can get your tickets,
(01:40:18):
group tickets, whatever you need and we look forward to
seeing you. And Granger kind of made the debut with
the Man Church last year in Startville, Mississippi, and Granger
Smith is back with us.
Speaker 13 (01:40:31):
Granger, welcome, buddy, good to be back. I love the
setup here. It looks looks great. Studio looks amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:40:38):
Thank you, man.
Speaker 1 (01:40:39):
So you know you you were, you know, will you
and I talked, you know about the Man Church.
Speaker 3 (01:40:45):
You were, You've got you're doing your own thing.
Speaker 1 (01:40:47):
You got a lot going on, and you were like, hey, man,
I'll come and you I think we talked.
Speaker 3 (01:40:52):
It was for some reason.
Speaker 1 (01:40:53):
I remember it was like winter again and I was
out and on the screened in porch outside and You're like,
we'll make it happen March start well, and I will
tell you I had never heard you other than you know,
following you on social media, and of course I read
the book like a River and so I knew all this,
but i'd never seen you come out and teach the
(01:41:15):
word of God. And you know, I knew you a
little bit from you know, being a country music, you
know star, and so you kind of get in that
mode of this guy is going to come out and
tell his testimony. You certainly did, but he's from secular entertainment,
kind of like what we do. And and I thought,
I will tell you something, brother. I mean, when you
(01:41:36):
decided to go all in on the word of God,
you're you're you really you're teaching. I think blew everybody away.
I think the funniest thing is, you know, God gifting
has given you gifts, one of them being a songwriter.
Speaker 3 (01:41:48):
Obviously.
Speaker 1 (01:41:49):
I remember Scott Dawson, who's an evangelist. I think you
remember meeting Scott. He looked at me while you were
doing your message and he was like, you know, this
just isn't fair. I mean, the guy has the ability
to handle words, he's been gifted at that, and now
he's teaching scripture with that gift. Anita said, you know,
it's almost not fair. So I just want to say,
you did. You really really impacted a lot a lot
(01:42:12):
of those men. I think you probably heard from them.
It was a great response and we could not be
more excited to have you back.
Speaker 13 (01:42:20):
Well, brother, Thank you, those are those are very kind words.
And uh, you know, praise God that that he saved
me and opened my eyes and turned me around to
his truth and gave me a passion. I've always been
a passionate person, and the Lord has really refined that
(01:42:40):
passion for him and I think he kind of nailed
it as far as I don't really do anything else
these days, but but study the word of God. And
I will also say that in hearing you say that
I did, it did occur to me that not everyone
thinks the way you do. Not not everyone would compliment
me that way, because sometimes I think some people do
(01:43:02):
just want me to come in and just tell my
testimony and tell them Jesus loves them and leave go
out the back door, and that's all they would want.
Speaker 1 (01:43:12):
Yeah, and I'm going to say this, and I'm trying
to right now even ask the Holy Spirit to give
me discernment. I don't want to come across the wrong
way that this is not I'm not trying to disparage others,
but Men's ministry, I think I can do this. I
think it's I can do this and be fair Men's ministry. Frankly,
during most of its existence has been poorly done. And
(01:43:35):
what I'm and what I mean by that is we
have never been forced to dive into the Word of
God and grow up spiritually. And so normally when we
go to things which I told you in our first discussion,
you may not remember it. That's not what we're trying
to do with the Manchurch dot com. To do what's
already been done. And there's certainly value to what's been done.
(01:43:55):
But let's not keep repeating the same thing. And you
know and say, we're still discipling these men, we're still
not equipping them. We're challenging them, but we're not equipping them.
And a lot of times when you go here's where
I got to be careful, the celebrity route.
Speaker 3 (01:44:10):
You know, people in.
Speaker 1 (01:44:11):
The entertainment business, and by the way, that includes sports.
It is entertainment. I noticed some people think it's a religion.
It really isn't. But anyway, so you bring these people
in so many times, and they do have a pretty
good testimony, and there's a.
Speaker 3 (01:44:24):
Value to that, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (01:44:26):
But what usually was missing is somewhere along the way,
the sports stories become more important than the scriptures, and
we're taking away some things that certainly have some value,
but we really weren't challenged to know the word of God.
We might even hear the story and go, that's an
inspiring story, and a lot of them are. But I
(01:44:46):
did I leave there, you know, being challenged to know
the Word of God? Did this person teach me the Bible?
Or did they take their sports stories and awkwardly try
to push them down on the Bible. And I was
so pleasantly sp because we want people to come to
our conferences. We may not have names that that you're
you know, our household names. That's not our intention. Our
(01:45:09):
intention if you come, everybody that's going to stand up
there is going to open the Word of God and
teach you the Bible. We want you to be a
good Bible teacher. That's more important to us than even
the platform you may have.
Speaker 13 (01:45:22):
Yeah, Rick, you're right on, and you and I are
very like minded in this. And I see the same
thing you've seen the same things I have. As we've
kind of traveled around and and we've seen especially the
men's gatherings. I can't speak to the women's stuff, but
the men's gatherings, the men are coddled they're made to
feel comfortable. They're made to feel that everything is going
(01:45:42):
to be okay. God's got you, you know, God's got
you in the palm of his hands, which, of course
there's truth in that, but the reality is that we
want them. We want men to leave and feel a
little bit uncomfortable, maybe a lot of bit of uncomfortable,
But we want them because that's what the word of
(01:46:02):
God does. That's what it does to me, That's what
it does to you. That's what it did to the
apostles and the disciples and every prophet that wielded his word.
They felt a bit of uncomfort that then took them
out of their comfort zone and directed them to what
God wanted them to do. So we want them, we
(01:46:23):
want we want to go to men and say, I'm
gonna I'm going to tell you something and challenge you
in a way that you've never been challenged in your life.
I'm going to ask you to do things beyond what
you thought you're capable of doing. And there's something inside
men that go, I'm listening, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:46:43):
Tell me, I want to know. I want to know more.
Speaker 13 (01:46:46):
No one wants to be caudal. That's the biggest mistake
we could make is thinking that we just want to
go in and tell you, We just want to affirm
that God sees you, God loves you, and everything's fine.
Now leave here and go do what you're just doing. Yeah, yesterday,
and that's okay. God, God loves you, oh man. And
what deep down we want to go because we live
(01:47:08):
in a fallen world. We we all think to ourselves
things aren't quite right. I'm not quite right. So tell
me something different, right, tell me something new, Take me
to a new place. That's that's what manchurch.
Speaker 3 (01:47:22):
Does you know.
Speaker 1 (01:47:23):
It's interesting you said that you and I had this conversation,
and I've tried to tell pastors this, and a lot
of them, to their credit, are are are embracing this.
That I think if we would tell men what Jesus
really said to your point, Granger, Yes, and what he
really said is most of us aren't man enough to
follow him.
Speaker 3 (01:47:42):
That's really what he said. Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:47:44):
He said that it would that it was it would
cost us that we'd have to deny ourselves. We'd have
to count the costs, we would have to pick up
our cross. And he even went as far to say
that we'd enter a narrow gate that will be hard
and only.
Speaker 3 (01:47:56):
A few of us will do it. That's what he
really said.
Speaker 1 (01:47:58):
And if you when you tell me that Jesus said
most of us aren't man enough to follow him, they
actually set up in the seat and go, hey, wait
a minute, this is different. And the way God made
a man even in his fallen state, because God still
made us.
Speaker 3 (01:48:13):
You just touched on it. That actually draws men to
the gospel. Amen, Yes, it really does. So I want
to come back.
Speaker 1 (01:48:21):
I want to visit with you a little more because
I want to kind of get an update on what's
going on with you. I mean, the last time we
were together, we were talking about the book, which is
if you.
Speaker 3 (01:48:30):
Haven't read like a River, you got to get it.
It's just fantastic.
Speaker 1 (01:48:34):
Is a lot of you that have been, you know,
so so kind to me and my wife over the years.
You know that our two families have in common that
we both have had to bury our young sons, and
you know it has impacted us a lot of ways,
the same but also very unique because we're different families.
And he grangeured does a great job of unpacking how
(01:48:55):
this radically changed his life as it did mine. Too
and like a river, but I I want to get updated.
I'm kind of what's going on with Granger right now.
Some new things you may be working on, some things.
Speaker 3 (01:49:06):
You're excited about.
Speaker 1 (01:49:08):
And if you want to hear Granger, come see us
in Birmingham, Alabama, January the twenty fourth and twenty fifth.
Tickets are available now at the Manchurch dot com.
Speaker 3 (01:49:17):
Bring you a group of ten or more, you get ten.
Speaker 1 (01:49:19):
Dollars off per ticket and we can't wait to see
you coming up later this month.
Speaker 3 (01:49:25):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (01:49:28):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:49:35):
And Granger Smith kind enough to visit with us today.
We were talking about the Manchurch Conferences Birmingham on January
twenty fifth, and I mean twenty fourth and twenty fifth.
Speaker 3 (01:49:45):
Granger will be there. I'll be there. We'll also have
Hugh Freeze will be there.
Speaker 1 (01:49:50):
He has an incredible story about what he went through
and how God delivered him. And then you have Andy Blanks,
one of our great teachers that'll be there that has
done so much for the curriculum and the things, and
he's a great Bible teacher. You also have George Wright,
pastor at one of the churches there in Birmingham Shades
Mountain Baptist Church, Chuck Hooton will do worship again. Uh,
(01:50:11):
and then of course we'll have our latest resources. You know,
when you come to the Man church conferences, it's gonna
be challenge, but it's gonna be equipping, it's gonna be fellowship,
it's gonna be worship.
Speaker 6 (01:50:21):
So we're we're we're gonna do it all. So Granger,
let's get an update on Granger Smith. So obviously, how
long has it been now that that when you said
I just don't think I can continue to do what
I was doing for a living, and that was country
music and arenas and all of that and and do
what God's called me to now, which you had to
(01:50:43):
figure that out. So so how long ago was that?
How long have you been away from that?
Speaker 13 (01:50:49):
Yeah, it's it's kind of two different questions. One is
the question you're asking, when did I decide that? And
then the second question is when did it actually ende to?
Speaker 1 (01:50:57):
Yeah, you had to do a fairwell, and you had
people that were depending on you. You could and just pull
up the roots and say good luck to everybody, and
you had obligations that you needed to meet.
Speaker 3 (01:51:05):
So when did you go, this is my last concert,
and here we go.
Speaker 13 (01:51:09):
Yeah, the last show was August of twenty twenty three,
so we're pulling in about, you know, about a year
and a half or so.
Speaker 3 (01:51:16):
Yeah, and you decided, of course, you read the book,
you know, through the process of really your true redemption.
Speaker 13 (01:51:25):
Yeah, it's kind of multi layered, you know. The Lord
began to decrease passions in certain areas and raise passions
in other areas. And I always like to say when
I talk about touring and music, because I did it
for twenty four years, and I like to say, and
I think it's right to say that I still love
(01:51:47):
it and I loved it then, and because I think
if I were to say I don't, I just stopped
loving it. You know, I didn't love it anymore. I
didn't love music anymore, that would kind of take away
from what the Lord did to raise something else in
my life. That I was more passionate about the music,
(01:52:08):
if that makes sense.
Speaker 3 (01:52:09):
Sure.
Speaker 13 (01:52:10):
So it's not that I didn't love it. The Lord
just he started convicting me in a couple of ways.
One he just raised he raised my interest in his
word and telling telling the gospel. And then the first
logical answer to that is, well, why don't you just
do that on the country music stage?
Speaker 10 (01:52:30):
Right?
Speaker 13 (01:52:31):
So then what the Lord did is he started convicting
me in the fact that on that country music stage,
no matter if I told the gospel or sang a
gospel song, it was still all about me.
Speaker 5 (01:52:44):
In the end of it.
Speaker 13 (01:52:45):
I was promoting me because in order to succeed on
the touring stage, that the level of success was measured
by how much I promoted myself and sold tickets to myself.
And I believe some people can get away with that
and probably be out of sin. But for me, it
(01:53:05):
was starting to wear me out because I was I
was so convicted that it was wrong that that I
was promoting my own pride and doing it and and
I needed to I needed to step away from it.
Speaker 1 (01:53:18):
Yeah, it makes perfect sense. You still love it. And
and so how are you What are you doing now?
Obviously you're speaking a great deal. Uh, you've written one book.
Tell us what you're doing?
Speaker 5 (01:53:31):
What? What?
Speaker 3 (01:53:31):
What are you doing right right now? What's going on?
Speaker 13 (01:53:35):
Yeah? So I'm on my fourth year of hosting an
overnight radio show for iHeart called After Midnight with Granger
Smith and and so that's kind of the that's kind
of the day job, even though it's a nighttime gig,
it's it. That's kind of that's the paycheck. I host
a podcast, Grangersmith Podcast. I I do travel around a
(01:53:59):
fair bit and do things like man church probably about
thirty times, about thirty times a year or so. And
but I think I think on top of all that,
serving in our local church it's probably the top of
that list.
Speaker 3 (01:54:14):
That's right, because.
Speaker 13 (01:54:17):
I think I say that partly because for so many
years I was gone on Saturday nights and not not
available on a Sunday. So so now serving my wife
and I and our family and sitting under the teaching
and and serving our church in many ways, sometimes preaching,
sometimes working in toddlers, you know, But that that really
(01:54:39):
ticks up a lot of my time.
Speaker 1 (01:54:40):
Yes, it will effort, it will, And I think you
hit something there. I think staying attached to the local
church is so so important. And I remember, you know,
kind of I remember when Cashing Crowns, even though that's
a you know, bandis out doing praise and worship song,
getting to know the a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:55:00):
When Mark was saying.
Speaker 1 (01:55:01):
That he he still works with the youth at his
local church.
Speaker 3 (01:55:06):
He never stopped doing that.
Speaker 1 (01:55:08):
I think there's a grounded part of your spiritual life
to the local church that if there's any way you
to retain it, you know, you should. My wife and
I we teach a you know, a Sunday school class.
They call it life group grangeer. But I can't say,
I can't say life group. I still say Sunday School.
Speaker 3 (01:55:26):
I don't like it, yeah, because.
Speaker 1 (01:55:27):
As I often say, I don't know what my grandmother
can see and hear from heaven, you know, so so
so anyway, I still.
Speaker 3 (01:55:33):
Say Sunday School.
Speaker 1 (01:55:34):
But you know, and that keeps you, you know, teaching
a Bible study every week.
Speaker 3 (01:55:38):
We do one here, you know, in the studio with
some guys.
Speaker 6 (01:55:41):
I think, I don't know if it benefits anybody else,
but boy, it really benefits.
Speaker 13 (01:55:44):
B It should benefit everybody else. Because but because I
believe for two thousand years, the local church has been
the tip of the spear for equipping, for teaching, for
for deciding that's really lost. Here's here's the crazy reality.
(01:56:04):
As much as as much as you and I love Manchurch,
Man Church exist because of a lack in the local church.
Speaker 6 (01:56:12):
I know yeah, yeah, well that was the thing that
we were noticing.
Speaker 1 (01:56:18):
And I know we've talked about this, and some of
the others have heard this. I remember hearing in the
local church that the most influential force in the home,
in the church and in society, God gave to the
headship of a male many women equal, many women equal
in value, but distinctly different, beautifully different. Okay, and and
(01:56:41):
and the man's headship could not be replaced. And then
when I looked, men's ministry was treated as if it
was a throwaway. And I thought, well that this seems
in conflict, and that really bothered me.
Speaker 13 (01:56:51):
I didn't understand that, Yeah, you're right, you're right, and
you were right to bring in Manchurch as a supplement
to that. But Man Church will continue to do well,
and we'll continue to encourage it as long as the
local church is not equipping men in the way that
they really should be.
Speaker 1 (01:57:11):
Well promise keepers. They said, that's why, that's they said,
that's where they fell flat. They weren't. They didn't ignore discipleship.
They just thought the local church.
Speaker 3 (01:57:19):
Would do that. And they said, and then it didn't happen.
Speaker 1 (01:57:22):
And I say this all the time with pastors, I said,
some of our greatest success stories.
Speaker 6 (01:57:27):
Is when we hear from you you don't need us anymore.
You're now doing it yourself inside the church. You got
your you know when you say hey, guys, thank you
for getting it started. We're the training wheels. We hope
at some point you're right, you're you're on the bike
on your own.
Speaker 13 (01:57:40):
Amen.
Speaker 3 (01:57:40):
Yeah, so great.
Speaker 6 (01:57:41):
Thanks for being with us, man, It's always a pleasure,
and I look forward to spending some more time with
you coming up at the end of the month in Birmingham.
Speaker 13 (01:57:49):
Man, I can't wait to see it. Hug your neck
and and see everyone that comes.
Speaker 3 (01:57:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (01:57:53):
Fun.
Speaker 3 (01:57:54):
Thank you, Granger.
Speaker 1 (01:57:54):
Tell the family that Sherry and I said hello, and
you're often in our prayers.
Speaker 13 (01:58:00):
You brother, you are too.
Speaker 3 (01:58:01):
Yeah, thank you. I can tell all right, we'll we'll
be We'll be back either.
Speaker 8 (01:58:05):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:58:05):
Some of you may have more content today. If not,
we'll talk to you, Lord Willing on Monday. Thank you
so much for being with us this week. It has
meant a lot.
