Look, you know, here we are on Friday at this
exact same time. We had a we had an unpleasant moment.
Everything's fine, we're all good. We went on to do
nineteen segments after that and going to the weekend, and
we're all good.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
It's waste of money, yes, we did. By the way,
twenty five hundred dollars.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
We gave away last week.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Wow, so more cash today, uh and uh and ader.
I hope you had a good, RESTful weekend.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Yeah, yeah I did.
Speaker 6 (02:36):
I did.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
I got more sleep and the walls stopped waving, so
that's good.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Yeah, walls are waving right.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
So it's it's seen your brother, Lou.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yeah, yeah, I had a good time to your brother.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Yeah, I sent my brother is funny on the hunt instead.
If everybody's wondering, I said my brother instead, he's taller,
and he knows more about hunting. So I know, you
guys like hanging out with him more.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
He is fun.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
He's a funny guy.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Listen.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
I don't know if he told you.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
You know, we had a morning hunt and there you
talk about kay have nothing, and we were all so excited.
We get up long before the sun comes up, you know,
honoring Dad because that's the day that Dad went to
heaven two years ago. And but and you know, we
talked about that back then, but some of his players
sending stuff out. I didn't realize that Dad stepped into
eternity on the exact day that they won the national championship,
(03:25):
you know, in ninety two, on the exact same day. Yeah,
so this this time it was actually on a Saturday,
which it was when they wanted but anyway, so thirty
three years ago Saturday. But anyway, so so you know,
all the effort you put in to getting out there
before the sun comes up, and I mean we're all like,
hey man, somebody gonna kills up today. Today's the day stalking.
(03:48):
We're stalking in We're doing everything we can long walks
in the dark because Gary was on.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Us'll y'all just need to walk in in the.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Dark, and so we're ready and all of a sudden
the sun comes up.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
We're just all.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
I even sent a picture. Oh look at this beautiful
fog up above me. But it's above me, I can
see just fine. Isn't that cool? How the FOG's lifted
and then the fog began to drop, and it began
to fall, and it came down and we couldn't see anything.
We all sat in fog that you couldn't see anything
outside your window. So your brother did he tell you
(04:23):
about this? What's that? He fell asleep while the fog
was lifted and woke in the fog, and he thought
he'd lost his eyes. Oigh, he said, I dozed off
and could see fine. I wake up and I can't
see an he says, what happened? And of course your
brother once again, you know, I don't know what's up
(04:45):
with him and his cell phone.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
While he'll lose his cell phone.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Or not be able to contact him, we thought he
had been just we didn't know what had happened to him.
And then we started to all of us start theorizing
that he'd left his phone in the cart, left it
at the camp out dropped it on the way in,
and then eventually he said his service just kicked in
and he had fifty three texts commands.
Speaker 7 (05:07):
Well, and about the time that that the fog was
so bad you could only see just outside the shooting house. Yeah,
I get the notification dense Fog Advisory blah blah blah
blah blah. I'm like, yeah, yeah, I can confirm. Yeah,
we can't see anything. It's it's it's like the woods
were on fire and all the smoke was coming so
you could not see.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
We could not see it, and all the one liners.
Somebody said, well, we're trying to figure it out if.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
The rudd is underway, Greg Taylor.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Taylor was like, if there was, if the deer we
were after work was was mating a dough in the
middle of the food plot, I could not see it. Listen.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
I don't think I've ever had that happen.
Speaker 7 (05:46):
Around nine o'clock, I could finally see the tree line
of the field.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
I was in, Wow, oh.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
There it is right whereat. Then we started thinking about
camp house breakfast. So it really was not a great
morning hunt. That the morning hunt it really nothing but
a fog. It featured sitting in the fog, right, And
what was hilarious is me taking that first picture of
it up above me.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Like, oh look, how cool that's yeah, and then it
just settles.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
On realizing it was going to then drop down and
and I mean, and you start trying to tell yourself things, Yeah,
they're still moving this oh oh yeah, you.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
Know, and we'll see them.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Yeah, And then you think, well if they do, so what,
I can't see them.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I can't see anything.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
Yeah, And I mean, guys, please don't picture that you
could kind of see you couldn't And now you're just
out there.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Like you sent what you sent a text one time.
Speaker 7 (06:30):
I'm not a biologist, but but I would think that
a deer would probably not move in this because he
can't see either.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
I don't kind of vulnerable.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
I'm thinking that all this moist cloud takes away their
building to smell and see. Yeah, probably just.
Speaker 7 (06:46):
Gonna lay down and let this one ride.
Speaker 8 (06:47):
Right.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
So, but you know what, we were in the woods, Yeah,
we were good time to pray. Yeah, yeah, it was
I saw that. It was a pretty peaceful morning. It
was very peaceful. But we had a great time. We'll
talk a little bit about that on the show. Today.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Some horrible things have happened since we were away.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Wow. I don't want to I don't want to bring
all that into the final five day celebration to the
Christmas party on Friday, but wow, yeah, uh that uh
that shows how Rob yeah yeah, and his wife found
dead in his home, and then Brown yeah, Brown University
(07:25):
shooting and then what happened in Sydney.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Beach terrorist attack.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Just an ugly weekend.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Yeah when it as far as all that's concerned. So uh,
we won't we want to ignore that. We'll give you
the updates on that probably, you know, Like I said,
the most prominent is the fact that someone as well
known as Rob Briner and his wife looked like murdered
in their home. Sad. Yeah. So I don't know if
it was just a break in that went that or
somebody who's out to get meathead.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
I know.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
I thought they were saying it was his son, No,
him his wife, no, no, his his son was the stabber.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
Oh oh what that's what.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Everything I've read because we were thinking he's got to
be the broadcast.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
So his son has been had addiction problems and at
one point was homeless, and I think that's that's what
I is that what they're saying. Yeah, yeah, killed by
his son with a drugs, with drugs and homeless history.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Which is horrible. It just adds some more twisted sadness.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
I mean, how about this.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
That's that's a horrible sad story. But at least that
is an explanation. Yeah, not a great one, but at
least explain.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
And the brown guy that they arrested as a person
of interest was re released, so for a while they
were like, we got him, but it looks like that
particular person still.
Speaker 7 (08:43):
Their investigation took him a totally different way and they
were like, hey, to sit in the guy.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
So yeah, they related him.
Speaker 7 (08:48):
And then we have some footage of of the police
going in, uh, to the to the classroom and everything
else and trying to get the students out, which was
a pretty tense moment, as you can imagine.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
So you have that, then you have what happened in
Sydney that we.
Speaker 7 (09:05):
Just talked about, father son terrorist attack, uh and the
spending time.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
With your dad, you know, making memories. Yeah, the good.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Now when you when you look at that once again,
you also see what happens when you take guns away
from everybody. Yeah, and even the law enforcement when they
arrived looked like they didn't know what to do.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
That was odd. Yeah, I'm hearing reports of twenty minutes
they stood by.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
But to lighten things up, like I said, it's make
fun of Adler day and everybody.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Everybody has all the permission.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Callers call us now eight eight.
Speaker 6 (09:43):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
So college major investment probably sometimes probably keeps you up
at night.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Worried about what we're gonna do. Uh well, why don't
we do this?
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Let's make sure there's not a lot we can do
about how much it costs, but there is something you
can do about how much damage it might do to
your son or daughter when you send them off to
these campuses that are just waiting to try to indoctrinate
them into something. Now, you may think, like most of
us do, Hey, I've done a good job raising my kids.
(10:24):
They know right from wrong, they have sound theology, etc.
That may be true, but I'm telling you it's important
to do your homework, very important. So there is a
free source called christiancollegeguide dot com. Because some of you,
when I talked about you being concerned about sending your
(10:45):
kid to college. You're like, don't worry about it, Burge,
I'm sending my kid to a Christian college. Well not
so fast. There's some Christian colleges out there right now
that you don't want your kid there. Okay, So there's
over two hundred and fifty Christian colleges and university and
a one stop shop, Christiancollegeguide dot Com. It's got all
the basics, acceptance rates, tuition calls, academic majors, of course.
(11:10):
But what makes it really special is it also gives
you the faith commitment of the university campus policies. It's
spiritual life, all the information you need to make a
decision on your kid's college to be sure it is
a college you can trust. So get started today, get
(11:30):
your free user profile ready to go, and go to
Christiancollegeguide dot com. So let me remind you, and you're
gonna hear this kind of stuff. As we roll toward
the end of our first year of the Rick Burges Show,
(11:53):
Speedy Greg Adler all here. We're full force today, the
entire team here. But if you are wanting to order
gifts that are attached to this show, this is the
last day to do it. If you want it by Christmas.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Now.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
If you don't care about when you get it, that's fine,
you can wait. But if you're trying to get stuff,
we've got that the fifty percent off stuff. Some of
that has sold out, some of it's still there.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
There's some fifty.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Percent options there that are off that we're clearing those out.
They're not going to make it into the new year.
We're gonna try some different stuff there. But if you
want a gift that is tied to this show out
of our store and you want it by Christmas, this
is the last day. You got to order it by
the end of business today. Okay, that includes the new
(12:43):
Best of CD. If you want a hard copy of that,
got to order it today. If you want it by Christmas,
any shirts, hats, water bottles, you name it, you got
to order it by today. If you want to sign
copy of Men Don't Run in the Rain from Themanchurch
dot com or you can find that link at the
bottom of the homepage at Rick Burgessshow dot com, you
(13:03):
need to have that order in by tomorrow. You have
one extra day for that, but tomorrow will be the
cutoff there. So so just f y I for all
of you out there that are thinking about, uh, you know,
the upcoming Christmas season and you want to give the
gift of the Rick Burgers show. Okay, So so Greg,
(13:24):
we we missed you on Friday. How is Leelee doing?
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Uh? She is thank everybody for the prayers.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Uh, she woke up. Well it started Thursday night just
out of nowhere, pain tooth jaw and I'm like, you know,
I where did this come from?
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Anyway?
Speaker 1 (13:41):
So on a Friday, try because this isn't just your
There's not a lot of walk in dentist things. And
we knew this was gonna be a Dantes as that
was called. The people that do you know who does
all the root canal all that kind of stuff. You
got in touch with doctor doudn'ety. He was trying to
find someone, Like I say, it's hard to find one
on so they'd got her in a wan but it
would have been this week and then wow, so just
(14:02):
out of the blue, she just gets on the computer
and it and one pops up over here, you know,
in Birmingham. So it was actually it was Brookwood Dental
which is behind it, and she asked him and they said, no,
you be here at twelve thirty. She's like yeah. So
she gets there and goes to the back, and I
have told her. I said, they're probably gonna find whatever's wrong,
(14:23):
and then you're gonna have to schedule later, and you
know they're gonna put you on pain pills and then
they get you in. Well, it all worked out. Their
tooth was just cracked all the way across. What's weird
and even to them is you had no sign of
no pain.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
I guess I don't the nerve one exposed until then.
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
She sud no, I never had any pain till now now.
It didn't like I bit down on something and yeah
I have to I broke my tooth on popcorn one time. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Anyway, but it worked out.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
He goes on the floor below him is the dental
surgeon office. So he told them call down there, and
they come back and said, yeah, we can do it.
So here we go. It's been a long day and
I knew it would take a while because they were
fitting her in and all this. Well, I didn't realize
she'd been there in the back for an hour and
they were trying to get an IV. She's got terrible
(15:11):
veins and plus she was kind of dehydrated, which they
they make it worse. There was a point where they
were going to put her on pain meds and send
her home, say, drink water and stuff.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
I got over the weekend and then come back Monday.
Oh she was like that that can't happen. Please find
a vein. And the doctor actually did it and uh
one last time.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
So anyway, so like the thank god we got over
and got it all done, didn't have to go back
this week.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
She's just recovering. And yeah, she's struggling.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Like I said, they do a bone graft, got down
into the jaw. Yeah, but they did it infection and
all that. Yes, so they got it out and now
she's just recovering.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
And boy, that's fine. Boy that's real fun because.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Now you know, I think, yes, the first day, yeah,
you know, you heard a little bit.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
But then it's like when you work out.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Yeah, the second day, they stretch your mouth open, you know,
and all that, and you're you're hurting from that.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
You're hurting from where you cut.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
You're hurting from where they took your mouth like an
alligator and opened it up and held it.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
And I mean, so, yeah, she's struggling.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
But like I say, it worked out as good as
it could have as far as you know, getting it done.
She would just heil up. They told her just take it.
You don't lift nothing and all this. But wow, it
was funny though, because she she got the hiccups.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
I didn't know ana stagia can give you.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Yeah. Sure. And when I go around to the door
to bring them out to pick them up, and you
know how they got that, they're still a little loopy. Yeah,
and see the nurse goes, well, she's got the hiccups
and she's not happy about that.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
I said to hiccups.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
Know, I was like, what anyway, I walk in ring,
So she goes, great, I got to dig up.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Yeah that's what I heard.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Just as serious as you can be. I got the
dike ups. And but anyway, thank everybody that that prayed
for because it all worked out.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
I mean, at least the healing can start now instead
of have the proceeder today or even later.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
I mean that was nothing and Christmas is coming and
all that, So thank everybody for the prayers.
Speaker 6 (17:10):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
For your shopping now. Greg, looking back on Friday, you
were not here. Your wife you said, you know, we
found out it had some sort of broken tooth that
she didn't know she'd cracked all the way across. It
turned into an infection. Had to get her to found somebody.
By the grace of God. Thank you for all your
prayers out there. But now there's the process, because I mean,
(17:40):
this is this is uncomfortable, but we all talk about it.
We all love our wives, we love our kids, we
love our family, love our parents if you still have them. Okay,
but we had a hunt planned and things like this
a mess hunt up, and it can't be helped. It
can't be helped. I mean, and you know what you're
(18:01):
supposed to do, and you do what's right. I mean,
and you and you love this person, and you got
to be there for them, and you could tell, I mean,
you could tell she was in really bad pain. Yeah, yeah,
I started to go. Look, of course you got back
from the hunt.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
We'll get it.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Thing, Carl, Well, you buddies don't help because everybody starts well,
well then okay.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Man, we'll just see you tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
And then yeah, yeah, you're like you're still gonna hunt
some right, Well, you're just not gonna hunt right now.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
But you're still gonna hunt. It's coming right.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Yeah, our plan and Lisa's plan actually brought this up.
She goes, run me over there. They I don't know
if they can fix it today, but at least gets
settled and then you leave and go and you won't
be able to hunt this hafterning, but you can spend
the night and hunt tomorrow. That was a plan. Well
then all of a sudden, what's good? It all got done,
(18:46):
none of it got put off. Wait a minute, was
there a time where you were just pulling for painkillers?
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Not really?
Speaker 1 (18:51):
No, okay, all right, you didn't know what you have, have
a really good one, make a nousels or that's the things.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
She's real sensass. They were really good and she was
just gonna be happy. But uh but no, no, it
worked out like it should.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
But again, also when she was yelling that she had
hiccups for some reason, very loud.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Yeah, she also in the car looks the hunt. You did,
But it's okay you didn't.
Speaker 9 (19:16):
You did, you did?
Speaker 1 (19:18):
But you yeah, And of course, of course we had
to cancel Adler coause nobody want him to have a
gun Friday.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
You should have told that, no Adler did lista not.
You don't worry.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
We made a wise decision. Addler shouldn't have guns.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Never had a nervous breakdown.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
I did read a lot. That did a lot of
reading this weekend. Men don't have a nervous breakdown on
the radio.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Okay, Yeah, that's a new book. It's not talked about
near as much as the other.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
Men don't cry on national programs. That's from the book
right right hand.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
You know, you know when I was telling Adler that
I want him to go to the rifle for the
hunt this weekend, I changed back to the boat. Yeah,
you know how.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Far to stay away?
Speaker 1 (19:58):
As long as I stayed you know, seventy yards straight up.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
It is make fun of Adler Day. And I'm serious.
We have to write this in the universe. And in fact,
I wrote a quick song about it.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Oh no, are you serious?
Speaker 6 (20:08):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Will you be performing a song?
Speaker 4 (20:10):
It's ready right now. It's very quick because.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
This would be out of your channel, right.
Speaker 5 (20:15):
Yes, let's make fun of Adler Day. Guys, we got
to write the universe.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
Here, here we go.
Speaker 10 (20:25):
It's make fun of Adler Day. He's really short and
really it's making fun of Adler.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
It never fails. But you know, watching God's hand and
all this with Lee, Lee, and and you know how
we all got all that worked out. Adler and I
think we had a you know, a really positive day
after you know, the initial breakdown, right, You ever thought
about how God's grace that Greg wouldn't hear?
Speaker 5 (20:58):
Yeah, but part of me was like he probably would
have laughed and like lightened the mood, and I would
have laughed and realized that I'm having an emotional breakdown
and stopped it.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
I've never seen you think of Greg and that light.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Yeah, then you're wrong.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
I'm just kidding a lot of I mean this.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
I was extremely surprised and.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
Embarrassing, but I decided.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
To look at it. I didn't expect it to be that.
I really didn't.
Speaker 7 (21:23):
Oh gosh, it's horrible.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
I haven't.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
I have not gone back and because I didn't want
to relive that very embarrassing.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
And I want everybody, and I want you to say
this or everybody hears you say it. We we told
you if you wanted to take that out of the archive,
we did not that was that was totally your call. Yeah,
And Adler, to his credit, said no, if if this
show is always going to be people sitting here going,
I wonder what they'll do next. He did put which
(21:49):
I thought was great, inserted to kind of hate just
so you know, everything worked out fine after this. But
this happened in real time, and you know, I think
that showed showed some curt for you to say, you know,
what I did and what happened on the show happened,
and I'm not gonna go back and doctor it up.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
Noh, yeah, it's you. You know, you learn from your
mistakes and you're better because of it. Hopefully, Well if
you're in. If you don't, then you're just gonna repeat
those mistakes over and over again. I think I did
this one time in my in my twenties, and when
I first started working here.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
You guys remember that.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
I remember me and you got in one one time
because you thought I understood why you would be mad
if I was doing what you thought I was doing
that one Rick was in on the Joe and you
didn't realize it.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Yeah, you were really mad at me that y. Of
course we got those and those cousin some iron, some
iron talking about Greg be here. May I've been great,
but then we'd hugged it.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
Out after that some irony.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Since I turned forty, I'm reading Extreme Ownership by Jacko Willink,
which is like about soldiers on the seal teams being
in battle and handling it with grace and you know,
and handling stress and things like that.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (22:56):
My pastor's message on Sunday was about finding joy in
all times and not letting our emotions run our run things.
I'm like, buddy, I needed this sermon last Sunday. Now today,
I seriously felt like the whole sermon was about me
the whole time, of course, which is which is good,
you know, but you know, just trying to uh be
smart and not crash out on a radio show for
(23:16):
the rest of my life.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
I compared it to like, you know, when you're in
grade school and you just want to get through the
year without crying.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Uh oh, yeah, were your mom first leaving and I
didn't make it in like those early years.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
You know, You're like, well, I blew it.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
I blew it in first grade, Maybe I won't cry
in second grade. That's kind of where I am right now.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
In faked dineyeyeah, faked Disney spell.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
That's good. I should have done that.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
First, and listen, there's so much comedy. Comedy is our therapy.
How quickly you know we wanted to handle with kid gloves.
But like even yesterday, I'm trying to encourage Adler, and
I feel all inspired. And I look back at my
text after our Senate and I like misspelled and had
wrong words, and what I text made no sin.
Speaker 6 (23:58):
Back.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
You don't really was I inspired? I felt while I
was stopping that right, and I really, I really thought
I was helping you out. I look back, you can't
even read this. You thought you were having a struggle.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
It was actually good.
Speaker 5 (24:08):
It was very kind, and you guys handled it well.
My brother texted me, dude, what are you doing? Making
fun of people is a huge part of the show,
That's all he said.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
I'm like, yeah, sorry about that, man.
Speaker 7 (24:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
Well, and it wasn't that I think, I think, and
people picked up on that. There was you really weren't saying, uh,
you know, no longer do I want to be here
and us cut up and make fun of each other anymore?
It all was. It was one of those things where
something's happening and you're like, but at the heart of
all this, what I'm saying is it even the problem? Yeah,
you know, and that was, and that was, and we
(24:39):
got to all that. Man, you just as I told you,
there's not a person walking this planet, including the three
men sitting here across from you, that doesn't have moments
in our life. We wish we could go back and
do over, sure, but you but yeah, but you can't
do it. So what you do is say, well, then
let me learn from it. And the sad part is
if you don't learn from it.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
Yes, And I definitely have been filled with, you know,
learning feelings all weekend thanks to everybody.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
I got like a hundred.
Speaker 5 (25:05):
Emails from people saying I have a one, a three,
and a six year old right now and I feel
your buddy, and I'm in the thick of it. Yeah,
and you actually made me feel better because I do
that once a week or whatever the case may be.
So I appreciate those encouraging emails. A couple discouraging emails too,
that's fine.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
I have one of those today.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Yeah, fro about me, So don't even you know, we
all get those.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
So I listened to those and I heard those, and Rick,
I appreciate you not listening and hearing the emails that told.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
You to fire me. So I appreciate all that I do.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Right, Yeah, well you know, but that's impractical.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Who can I get to replace you? Well, no, I'm
just kidding. How about this.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
You know, we talked about it, you understood it, you
took ownership of it. And on the list of things
that shouldn't happen and the list of things that can't happen,
and and you know, we always look for a positive
and I'll tell you this.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Our archive was through the roof over the week.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
Yeah, a lot of traction, a lot of comments, so
they go.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
No, but you know what I mean, it's it's it
would be different if somehow, you know, you started going,
you know, had doubled down. You never did that. You
realize what you were doing. You I've even realized what
I was doing many times, and I can't get myself stopped.
Yet you almost had to just get it out.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
I was rolling down a hill. I was a boulder
rolling down it and you knew it. It's called crashing out.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
What's what is not funny, haha? But interesting is that
you realized that about three quarters the way in.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Yeah, like, I'm so sorry.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
Tough times, but Honestly, the walls were like wavy by
the end of that day. It's just I was in
a real bad uh mental sleep deprivations.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Sometimes you just need to say that's no excuse either, but.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Still sometimes you do need to. You got to recognize
when you need a break and take it, and you know,
and and there's nothing wrong with that.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
And it's make fun of Adler day. So it's just
call us now. Adler is a short idiot. Adlers a
short idiot.
Speaker 6 (26:56):
This is the Rick Burdgers Show.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
All right, So Greg, your minions are now texting. They
waited on you to return, and only your minions should
come up with this. I like Greg to weigh in
on the fact that all this was planning for them
to have massive ratings on the archive. They figured it out.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
It was all planned.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Knew that they would figure it out. And hey, y'all
do realize that was my first thought?
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Did you really?
Speaker 10 (27:28):
No?
Speaker 1 (27:28):
I will say this. At first, I didn't want I'm
not to put on but I thought he was kidding.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
Well, I did make a joke, and that was I
was just trying to joke around. And then I spiraled
and listen to it.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
And I thought Okay, he's just playing.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
But then as it went on, yeah, yeah, wow, he's serious.
Well you know we said that, baby, God, it's embarrassed. No, no,
I was just saying he was very mad. He was
very mad.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
He was man, And you know, I'm so thankful. I'm
so thankful that I that's exactly what I saw. You too,
handled it outstandingly. Yeah, well but the looks on face,
but y'all did handle it.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Let me tell you something.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Until I realized that he was being straight up, yeah,
I didn't. It was about halfway through before you realize
he's you know, he's good at it.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
He's he plays angry young man. He's really good at it.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
And I'm so thankful that I didn't drop the line
I had and that was, well, you're an angry.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
Yes, it would have been good. It's funny.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
It would have killed.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
It would have killed. And I should have been.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Said he you should have just done.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
I was already mad.
Speaker 5 (28:35):
I was crashing out great, like you know, I appreciate
you guys saying off the air, Hey guy, really, if
you're ever really upset, you can always tell me. And
I know that, and I know that it was just
very embarrassing and warning, I was worn down and delirious
and never an excuse for that.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
That is bad for me, That is bad for y'all.
It's bad for the show.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
Is super stupid and embarrassing and not even true. Like, y'all,
don't hurt my feelings. You and I know that you
guys like me and respect me. It's just when you
get in that hyper emotional, worn down, delirious state, every
little slight can feel like a huge slight. And I
told you, guys, it's like the classic case of when
you feel slighted and then you overreact and then you
(29:19):
become the actual problem and the bad guy of this
entire situation. Super immature, super embarrassing. And again, I appreciate
you guys, y'all's friendship literally circling around me and and
being friends to me after that, and I really appreciate it.
And today's make fun of Adler Day. And I've got
that theme song ready whenever.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
You guys, you guys want to hear that while we're
talking about it.
Speaker 7 (29:44):
Yeah, herere we go.
Speaker 10 (29:49):
It's making fun of Adler Day.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
He's really short, and really.
Speaker 10 (29:56):
It's made fun of Adler Day.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
There you go, that's never No, I'm twelve years old,
but that is never not fun.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
I acted like I was four years old on the air,
so there.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
You know, well, you know, uh, well, and you know,
I was like the only thing I had to say,
like to everybody that was at camp, I said, Adler
does not hate working here. That was Yeah, that was
the only line he heard that, And he doesn't hate
hunting with us. That was just him trying so hard
(30:33):
to come out with anything at the moment. He was
just furious. Yeah, yeah, we all. Yeah. I was even
going back in my mind because he brought up how
miserably it was to go on.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
The hunt, and I thought, when I we've been on
a few hunts, and I.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
Don't think anybody was maybe I missed it was Rick
picking on you at hunt.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
It was just very hypersensitive and hyper emotional and very stupid.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Hey, and I'm gonna go ahead and say, I was
just kidding about your camo. Nothing wrong with this classic
it is, but it's still there. As Roger Daltrey said,
so clearly. All I remember is throwing punches around and
preaching from my chair.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
But who are you so?
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Uh? And and Greg, I understand that you had an
encounter was so much interesting yesterday Friday.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
Yeah, yeah, I was sitting in a waiting room, right,
speaking of angry. That procedure takes a while there.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
You have to tell us you can't hold out now, well, Greg,
you tell us you don't have to us the odds
to this person hearing you. And there's nothing negative. Very
nice woman, it's nothing negative. And she was not happy
with the person she had brought there, okay for some reason,
and got on a rant, I mean, a good one
to me.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
We were the only ones in the waiting room. And
to be honest, it was like.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
A character off of television show the way I mean
she was funny, not meaning to be unexpected, unexpected and
was very open to a stranger me huh about her
life okay, and how frustrated she was, Okay, frustrated with
the person she she was there within and hey, loud,
it went on and on loud about it, I mean,
(32:12):
and what's funny? I some reason I got a kick
out of it. I mean, she was, y'all, don't I
can't exaggerate how mad she was, Okay, And she just
looked at me and just started to here we go, right,
now and uh, you know some people who work in
profanity really well, oh you got good customs. And I
consider myself not proud of it, No, not sure. And
you got those Our dad was a good you got those.
(32:34):
She was she was a very good costs you're talking
when she but she she had good control of profanity.
And she was a stranger, you know when bottom line
is this adler like this is I've hit my I'm
I'm done right, okay, I'm tired of it and this
and and I'm going to tell you exactly.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
What I think.
Speaker 7 (32:52):
She was disgusted to be there, yes, and for whatever.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
I'm not quiet sure must have had some kind of
altercation on the way.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
Okay, but she was very entertaining and uh really made
my wait not seem as long.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
And and she she used a lot of profanity and
was good, good, very.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
Good at it, very good and looked like somebody's mom.
I don't expect, you know, like somebody else at the
ball field. You know, that's a little red with a
cigarette in her math, not a well dressed, well capt
I would I would have never seen very professional look.
And I would have never seen this coming if I
just saw her in the waiting room. No, okay, and
and you and you and you were fortunate enough I
(33:30):
would be the person she wanted to vent. We had
a good conversation.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
It's just wow, did you add anything to it? Did
you try to?
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Really? Didn't you join in? Now? I go wow?
Speaker 2 (33:39):
Really? You know?
Speaker 1 (33:40):
And stuff like that, And but again it made the
time go faster. It's better than looking at Instagram.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
And did you want it to end?
Speaker 1 (33:48):
No?
Speaker 2 (33:49):
No, I really didn't, because I mean, and again just
I can't explain.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
It was like a character off television, you know, like
like somebody putting on an act.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
And it was really, really, really good.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
So she was such a character. You could see her
in a sitcom Oh yeah, or in a movie? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (34:05):
Absolutely did she did she came and then sit in
there and wait? Or did she leave and come back?
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Or did she?
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Was she in there the whole time?
Speaker 9 (34:12):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (34:12):
She's in there? Woletel oh? Oh yeah?
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Just the two of you.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Well, let me say that whole time, not the whole
ordeal of the days were at different places, right, which one?
This was God? But again I'm not, I mean, it
was it was she was You can't hold all that inside.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
It's not healthy.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Do you think tell you this, she will never be
accused of holding it inside, But do.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
You tell us what you think?
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Do you think the fact that she used profanity so
well that she's even bothered by you saying she used profanity.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
I'm sure she's aware of it.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
No, she's really good at it, very very creative. It
made my weight go a little shorter.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 6 (34:53):
This is the Rick Burgess Show, so.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
We unpacked that and we also took on Zach Brown
Band and the Weird Sphere show. He has going right now,
what's going on there? So we hit all that over
the weekend. So a lot of you on textonation when
you hear this Rob Reiner story, it's just horrible. And
then what happened at Brown University and what happened in Australia,
a lot of you like, well, here we are, and
(35:24):
I will tell you that this darkness is absolutely some
of the things we're talking about. And when you think
about what happened to Rob Berner and his wife where
they were murdered, it looks like with the knife and
the person they think that has done this is their
son that has had issues. You know, anytime you allow
(35:44):
your mind to be altered by drugs and alcohol and
things like that. You just open yourself up into a
dark spiritual realm. And you know that if this person
was thinking clearly, I'll say that and uh, probably would
not have done this. But it's not not an excuse.
Still should pay a price for what they did, but
(36:06):
that that stuff just brings you into such a dark,
dark world and what we believe from a biblical worldview
would include demonic activity, which these things over the weekend
just just scream of that, but horrible. I couldn't believe
when I came in and y'all start telling me about this,
I don't really The news right now for me is
(36:29):
something I've kind of chosen, and I know what I
do for a living that's not good. And that's why
I'm so dependent on Speedy and Adler and Greg to
update me when I get here. I'm just kind of
for my own well being. I just can't. I just
can't do it. It's you know, you've got all the
weather coverage is that every every and now all weather
is the end of time and doom and gloom. That's
(36:51):
all exaggerated that It's like the journalism right now cannot
feature good news, right, No, yeah, you know it.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
I am the weather.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
If I want people clicking on stuff, or I want
people watching stuff or listening stuff, my number one one
way to do that is through fear and everything. Everything's
fear mongering everything, and I just can't participate in that.
You know, every every flu strands gonna kill everybody, every
new COVID strands gonna kill everybody, every every every all
(37:19):
the weather's gonna kill everybody.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
Say they act like it's.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
Been cold, right, I've heard about this cold front. But yeah,
we can't just got this cold. We've had cold, We've
had cold before. Yeah, it can't just be cold anymore.
To your point, it's got to be smart. Last some
millions in the path of cold weather.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Well, yeah, so it goes across the.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
So and I've even tried to go and say, I
think I'll watch a little news here for a minute.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Can't do it. It's just it's just doom and gloom.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
So I did not even know. I didn't even know
about these things. And until I got to work. And
you know, the the terrorist attack, I heard about that
just because it was it was everywhere. But this thing
with Rob Ryder and his wife just horrible.
Speaker 7 (38:04):
Yeah, And the daughter of the two live, I guess,
lives across the street from the writers, and she is
the one that discovered the bodies mid afternoon on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
Now, to be.
Speaker 7 (38:18):
Official here, there are currently are no arrests, but the
son is being investigated by the detectives and they are
ruling this a homicide. So but there's no been no
official arrest But Nick I guess is the thirty two
year old son, and he's the one Rick that had
struggles with drug addiction and homelessness and all that had
(38:40):
bouts of that. He is the one that's currently being questioned,
but there is no According to a couple of sources,
there's no been no official arrests, so.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
We won't say he's officially, but he's the one being
investigated right now till they rule him out.
Speaker 2 (38:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
And if you've ever dealt with anything like this, and
I've helped families who have sometime, I'm not saying this
is what happened. I have no idea what happened, and
a lot of you out there have dealt with it
though in your family, drug addiction and to the point
that the person's life is being destroyed. They get real
dangerous when they start becoming desperate for a way to
fund the habit and many times rightfully so. And I'm
(39:19):
not saying this is what happened, but families will make
the decision is that we have a right to our
life too, and we have tried and tried and tried,
and we love you and we love you, and we
have tried and tried and tried, but we are officially
cutting you off. And sometimes their response to they can't
get any money from you anymore, or can't you can't
come in your home anymore, or things like that. Sometimes
(39:42):
that goes down a dark, dark road. And I'm not
saying that's what happened, but just the stuff that's being
reported about what was going on with him, that seems
to be a plausible possibility. Brown University another one. Here
we go. This is uh, this is another one of
those things where you just kind of look and and
(40:05):
you go, well, we've we've got more just random shooting
of killing people and and it's just a horrible thing.
But again, when you see this senseless just you know,
death for the sake of death, it's it's there's a
darkness there that is it's cranking up, you know when
(40:26):
they when they say that the you know he fired
when you hear this term, and this is right out
of the story here. Uh, the shooter operated without conscience.
He decided to open fire at the school with no
conscious or concern of any anybody, any anything. Make no mistake.
Somebody that goes in and makes a decision to take
(40:46):
human life on a mass scale or any scale is
operating without a conscious When you have no conscience, it's
it's a disconnect. Uh. And that is that is a dark,
dark realm there. And then they austray in terror attack.
This is what it looks like again for there to
be a community that decides that people are not going
(41:08):
to have the right to defend themselves, even their law enforcement,
like they didn't know.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
What to do.
Speaker 9 (41:13):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (41:14):
They looked as human beings, as individuals, and as a community.
They looked completely unprepared to take on an attack like
this on a Jewish community, like they they didn't even
know what to do. And it's it just went on
and on and on, and the people themselves had to
(41:34):
start showing courage to try to defend themselves because even
when law enforcement got their their approach to it. I
watched the videos, was like I was like, guys, yeah,
I mean so so.
Speaker 7 (41:46):
Anyway, it's for some pretty raw footage from the Sydney shooting,
maybe an adjacent building or somebody somebody's rolling video of
the heroic man that that wrestled the one and then
also the shooting that just.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
Kept on going and kept on going and kept on going.
Speaker 7 (42:04):
Into your point, Rick, You're like, where in the world now,
I understand, you know, I'm not there, and the the
strategy and all that. You can't just run in there.
You got to try to figure out, you know, what's
going on in the scene and and all that. So
I'm not this enforcement and we're gonna we're gonna begin
to know what was going on. But this guy here,
who is uh an owner of a of a small business. Uh,
(42:27):
this Muslim man here, they say it is a hero
and no matter. I don't know how many lives he
might have saved, but he wrestled this was this a
shotgun right behind him?
Speaker 1 (42:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (42:39):
Yeah, And and and his had surgery. He was shot
in the arm and the hand or something. Because the
other the other guy that's I think this might have
been the father but the son he's shooting from a
little walking bridge or walk over, you know, pedestrian bridge.
Speaker 5 (42:56):
And this was the first video I saw, just people
in huge crowds running from the beach and I didn't
know what was going on. And then the videos came
in and the video of him without a weapon disarming
the gunman is is true heroism.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
I do, I do. I wish he would have finished
the job though he had the gun. I wish he
shot the guy dead. That's the only part I kind
of disagree with. Yeah, yeah, take him eliminate that one. Yeah,
eliminate him. Uh you don't just stow the gun away,
right and take him out. But that's it's still incredibly
heroic though, no matter what.
Speaker 2 (43:32):
Uh. So we'll be back.
Speaker 1 (43:35):
So there's those three stories that are kind of hanging
over us today. We're not really going to immerse ourselves
in them, but if you bring them up on some
phone segments or stuff, you know, know that we've thrown
them out there and we'll update you if anything new
comes from what we already know, we'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
So a lot of you saying which is is correct?
Speaker 3 (44:01):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (44:01):
You know, the the guy who disarmed one of the
terrorists in Australia. He was clear thinking. He probably knew
two things. If he takes the gun and guns the
guy down, Australia will probably put him in prison. And
then secondly he's Muslim as well. Police are at least watching.
If they see him with the gun shooting at people,
(44:21):
they may shoot him. So that's all that is. That's
all logical. So uh so that's pretty clear thinking. If
that was those that was what he was thinking during
that moment. So uh that's a that's a pretty level
headed approach there, all right. So some other things from
from over the over the weekend the sports world. We
(44:42):
have a Heisman Trophy winner, Fernando Mendoza. I know you,
I know you've enjoyed watching Fernando. Everybody keeps asking us
about you and Fernando.
Speaker 2 (44:51):
I will say this, his little red face were in
he did on the field. It wasn't nothing like that.
At times he gets a little cringey.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
But I will say this, after some of the speeches
I've seen in the past, correct, we're doing the Big
Den and all that, all right, it was a breath
of fresh air to see somebody actually get up and
speak well and make points and you know, and not
try to be cute. I didn't see it, did he
Did he elevate any at all?
Speaker 5 (45:14):
No?
Speaker 2 (45:15):
Not really get upset and want to cry. He'll cry,
but that's fine.
Speaker 1 (45:19):
But why did you say it like that?
Speaker 7 (45:22):
No?
Speaker 1 (45:22):
I shouldn't. How about this, Like I said, he it
was a good speech. He did really good.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
I think now you know he's got that moment where
he'll crank it up. I thought Pavio acted real classic.
Speaker 1 (45:33):
Yeah, he looked like somebody from uh was Jersey Shore?
Speaker 2 (45:37):
Yeah, yeah, they do like classy. But I heard he
really acted real well.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
Yeah, yeah, he dropped the f B on all the voters.
He drops F bomb on all the Heisman voters. Classy, classy.
Speaker 2 (45:47):
Let me Chell, that's one of the reasons maybe you
didn't get it right. Let me let me say this.
Speaker 1 (45:52):
He's he's fun to watch as a football player, yes,
but he's he and his family.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
Got zero class. Oh god, I mean see him and
his brothers walking in. He's a competitor. But on the
field I like to watch him play, and he's exciting.
Speaker 1 (46:06):
Off the field not so much right now, this ringing
that he'll he'll he'll get ugly face cry going every now.
Speaker 7 (46:14):
Of this. I haven't watched the whole speech because.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
And here's a guy I love this part.
Speaker 1 (46:20):
Had one offer coming out of high school, two star,
one offer, and I won the Heisman Trophy and his
quarterback for the number one team in the country.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
As we speak.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
It's still funny that the backups his brother he was
there too, and then they got a little brother.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
I guess he'll probably play quarterback to it at some point, right.
Speaker 1 (46:36):
Yeah, he's a Cuban family, really Yeah, and his grandparents there.
He spoke to them in Spanish. It's pretty good. He
had his speech organized. Yeah, you know that. When I
first saw him, I kept trying to put together Fernando
Mendoza because when you just see him just on appearance, No,
I know, he just looks like your typical white guy.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Yeah, yeah, you know. I mean it's uh, but.
Speaker 1 (46:56):
But he's don't want a quick clip from that, do
you mind? Is he okay?
Speaker 8 (47:00):
Line right here, it's a privilege to join this fraternity.
You have my deepest respect. I promise to carry the
Heisman name with humility, gratitude, and with responsibility.
Speaker 4 (47:11):
Greg make fun of the responsibility.
Speaker 1 (47:13):
Will don't you worry he's got his moments looking but
I'm pulling.
Speaker 2 (47:19):
I'm pulling for him to win the whole thing. You
you're on the I want to see him get red
faced again in the camera.
Speaker 1 (47:25):
That's the Can you imagine what he did if they
want the whole thing? Okay, so really if you look
at it where we live and and again you got
you know, Oklahoma's not an easy out, especially since they
already beat you once of course beating Bama twice and
uh but if BAMA beats Oklahoma, we get Indianabama. I
(47:47):
think that's what's gonna happen to Yeah, that's exactly my prediction.
Speaker 2 (47:51):
No, okay, I'm just having fun.
Speaker 1 (47:53):
He did.
Speaker 2 (47:54):
He did a good speech, and he seemed like a
good person.
Speaker 1 (47:56):
He didn't get up there and act like an idiot
like we said in the past. Yeah, Pavia, well can
you imagine what he wanted to I kind of wish
he'd won, just there was notelling his brothers did Pavio?
Speaker 2 (48:09):
Was he the number two vote getter? Oh?
Speaker 1 (48:11):
I don't know who got the kid from Ohio State
to probably be back, you know, an he just like
a red shirt freshman or maybe a sophomore.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
Good place.
Speaker 1 (48:20):
Yeah, that was originally at Alabama. Yes he was, so, yeah,
I don't know who got that.
Speaker 4 (48:26):
Yes, so it was uh.
Speaker 2 (48:28):
Probably the running back from Notre Dame was probably second.
Speaker 5 (48:30):
No, it was actually for Fernanda Mendoza with two thousand,
three hundred points uh qb Diego Pavia with.
Speaker 4 (48:36):
One four hundred and then Notre Dame running back with
seven hundred.
Speaker 1 (48:40):
Wow. Okay, so yeah, Pabio a little distant second, but
he was second, right, so like a pretty clear choice, yep.
And I can't argue that. I think he is the
clear show. Oh, absolutely, all right, we'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (48:51):
Stake question.
Speaker 6 (48:53):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
By the way, I'm glad I'm glad that you weren't
here to hear Greg be in sincere minute ago the
most Yeah, it was terrible, you know, you know, so,
as you all know, the original plan was this past
weekend that the whole show would go hunting, and then
(49:21):
also added to that group would be one of my sons, Brody,
Greg's son Taylor, and Adler's brother Luke. So ended up
being Luke, Speedy, Me, Taylor, and Brody. But but like
not everybody was ever there at the exact same time
speeding are the only ones that hunted the entire weekend,
(49:43):
and everybody else was kind of come in and do
what they could and go. Let me just tell you
what just happened. And Adler, I'd like to hear your
views on this too, because I want to know how
you thought since you and Greg ended up not going.
Greg just looked in the sitting over with his coffee
holding court. You know what. I know you probably think
(50:05):
that I'm glad y'all didn't kill any things, as I
wouldn't there, but I honestly was really want y'all to
kill that big one you are.
Speaker 7 (50:12):
That is the one thing I thought of when we
did we didn't, I thought, well, Greg going, we at
least I didn't go.
Speaker 1 (50:18):
Yeah, yeah, y'all both secretly, y'all both secretly when the
fog rolled in, when we kept saying that, you know,
we had to see no no shooters, y'all are telling
me y'all were disappointed for us.
Speaker 4 (50:32):
All right, Well, here's here's where here's where my head was.
Speaker 5 (50:36):
I was actually up again with a kid from one
thirty until three thirty on on Friday night. At three thirty,
I'm like I'm awake I could go surprise the guys.
Speaker 4 (50:46):
You could have honestly thought about it.
Speaker 5 (50:48):
Uh, But I'm like, man, you buddy, you are still
so sleepy, prived, just sleep man. But I saw that
fog somebody and it made me feel not as bad
about missing out.
Speaker 4 (50:59):
I wasn't glad. I wasn't glad. It was for y'all.
That's what It made me feel less bad for missing out.
Speaker 1 (51:06):
That's I'm right there with it. How do y'all feel
about that? I think has an out of sincerity because
I think fist when I heard nobody against So do
you like the fact that an audience? We'll let y'all
know about this? What we do. We have this big
group text where everybody updates each other on what you're
(51:28):
seeing and happening, and of course thousands of one liners.
And do y'all did y'all like we include the guys
that even don't come. We keep them so all they
have to do to know what's going on, they just
jump in that text and there it is. Do y'all
like that when you're when you were you were, there
are times where you were like I just about to happen.
When when speed, when speedy gave that report on what
(51:50):
had jumped out on him, and then I was relieved
when y'all didn't. And there it is. Well, I tried
to say it right there, we saw right well. Yeah,
and and course Gary, we get this one.
Speaker 2 (52:02):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (52:02):
Let me tell you what if y'all put them phones
and turn them off for an hour. Let's see what
happens now that he's mad at the phone. Yeah, yeah,
are they picking up on some wave or yeah? He
thinks we're not paying attention.
Speaker 2 (52:14):
Wow, we're paying possible rights.
Speaker 4 (52:17):
The fog picture there it is before.
Speaker 1 (52:19):
This was me. I sent this to everybody, like to
Sherry and everything, praying for you. Baby.
Speaker 2 (52:24):
Look at this beautiful morning.
Speaker 1 (52:26):
See right there. I think I think the fog is
like my friend right there right and I'm thinking, what
a beautiful, beautiful day. And uh and then a six
point comes out, nose to the ground, didn't even check
up bolts side of the wood, game on, goes right
down that greenfield you're looking at right now, checking scrapes
over on that on those tree lines, puts his fermones
(52:47):
up in one of the branches and then moves on
down that hill away from me. And I said, yeah, hey,
we're rolling now, and then before I know it, that
fog that looks kind of thin and hovering up above
me in this beautiful deal begins to push down and
up above it all that other up there. Just before
you know it, we can't see anything. Yeah, and y'a
are telling me that y'all felt bad for us. I did.
Speaker 2 (53:13):
I didn't. I thought the fog was a little much.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
So you're telling me the fact that we're in a
new week with two weeks of vacation coming up, and
you're you're you're disappointed that the bucks that we want
to get that we've been seeing on camera are still
out there. No, if you put it that way, put
that one right. I mean, it was like it was
the last week of the right.
Speaker 7 (53:36):
So I was kind of down the key, by the way,
I feel that that was kind of in the bottom,
and so the fog really rolled in, oh speed.
Speaker 2 (53:42):
He was in a boat on me, and I just
go to sleep at that point, so I couldn't see
at all.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
By the way, Gary's new plan, and we followed Gary's plan.
Now we didn't follow it completely because he wanted us
to literally leave from camp house. He said, hey, let
me tell you, I'm getting the keyston in side by,
and and he uh he he was. He was wanting
us to to never get in a vehicle, never, never, never,
(54:11):
And so anyway, so let me tell you we so
we got to one vehicle and we would park it
way away from everything, and everybody will walk. At one
point goes Adler's brother did come, and he came for
the morning hunt and and could not stay for the
afternoon hunt, which was unfortunate. But he came to the
morning hunt and he had never been where I took him,
(54:34):
and it was dark, and I didn't want to walk
all the way in, So I said, all right, here's
what you need to do. So when he starts not responding,
I think to myself, he's wandering around the property he
never found in the fog. You know, he never found it,
and now the fog and all that. But uh so,
but here's what here's what it does affect. Well, there's
only one vehicle now to pick everybody up, because everybody's
walked so far going in, and then everybody has to walk.
(54:57):
At least we don't take you to walk the whole
way out, but we'll at least cut it off a
little bit. I couldn't leave early to go start camp
house breakfast. So now camp house breakfast turns into something
I don't think you should put together. I don't think
you just say these words. And again, Adler, I blame
your brother because he's the first one that said it.
He said, I hate to be the person to say this.
We're actually having camp house brunch. Yeah, it was brunch,
(55:20):
and then he begins to call it camp house brunch,
and that just I heard, but that felt wrong.
Speaker 7 (55:24):
Yeah, it was almost sticks by the time we were eating.
We're laning on lunch.
Speaker 1 (55:31):
It be camera lunch.
Speaker 2 (55:32):
We didn't have a lunch. Yeah, they're serving lunch at
restaurants at ten third. Oh yeah, yeah. Hey, it took
a while to get out of there, and Gary's playing,
you realized.
Speaker 1 (55:39):
One of the some of the walks, no exaggeration, were
twenty five minutes.
Speaker 7 (55:45):
Taylor and I were walking in. Couldn't believe I told
him when he would probably get to the field, And
afterwards he was like, boy, I hope he's wrong, and
he said, you were pretty dead on with by around
missing it by around two or three minutes. He said,
it took it took that long.
Speaker 1 (55:59):
But I mean that's well, I know it obviously paid
driving there right in the middle of it. Kill it all.
Speaker 2 (56:08):
Riddle me this, okay, riddle me this, and this might
gonna spend.
Speaker 1 (56:11):
The tires and this makes this makes very mad. Now,
I mean, y'all don't know how to be quiet, and
y'all get on them phones and so let let me
just throw this at you. We're not driving. Riddle me this, biologist,
biologist vines and everybody else. So the deer don't notice
a human being is walking through hundreds of acres uh
(56:34):
with with you know, they can smell you. You're not.
Speaker 2 (56:38):
You're not always with the wind.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
In your face, sweating whatever you're So I'm walking through
here and the deer fine as song as I don't
ride through here.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
I just I don't know.
Speaker 1 (56:49):
I don't I think that our presence there is is
it's and and you and you have to kind of
deal with it. I mean, is it different than us
not being there us? Yeah, can't because they smell, they see,
they hear. But I mean you try to be as
stealth as you can.
Speaker 5 (57:07):
Did Gary offer his electric bike for anybody to take out?
Speaker 1 (57:12):
It was brought up and then and then let's let's
talk about this too. Uh.
Speaker 2 (57:18):
There there was a lot of big talk over over
over at David's.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
That's where we get our deer process and mounted and
all that. You know, if we kill a good A lot.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
Of talk about early rut. Mm hmmm.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
I didn't see it there, right. I saw a few
pre rut things, but I didn't see a full blown rut,
did you.
Speaker 2 (57:38):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (57:40):
I'll talk about that, mm hmm. You know. I mean
there's I saw some things, but I didn't see what
I need to say.
Speaker 7 (57:47):
There were signs that was happening early, and then I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (57:50):
Well, if you see it go full blown, it don't
matter if you ride a bug or you ride in
there on the motorcycle, if you can get the full
rut going, because they got something on their mind that
has killed many a man.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
I thought we got in green fields pretty good. They weren't.
Speaker 7 (58:02):
They were clear, and when we got out there's nothing
on the I think our pretty stealth in and out.
You know, we didn't just blow up fields and.
Speaker 2 (58:11):
We had the wind.
Speaker 1 (58:11):
Right at one time, I had twelve deer and I'm
telling you to the right and in front of me,
and they weren't more than fifteen twenty yards from me.
And I mean to the point that when they finally
started looking at me, like, aren't you something. We don't
smell you, but my goodness, we're so close. We see you. Yeah,
And so we didn't have a problem there. So I
don't know, but you know, we just didn't. We didn't
(58:33):
see anything that we would say, let's let's take that.
Speaker 11 (58:37):
I know.
Speaker 2 (58:38):
I bet you do. You talked that you I did
think of him.
Speaker 7 (58:40):
I'm like, he's probably so happy we didn't get it.
Speaker 2 (58:42):
Yeah, not happy. He is a strong one. He went
in there one time said they did good news. You
didn't ruin anything.
Speaker 1 (58:47):
Yeah, well if it, Ben Adler said, I got my
rest and didn't miss anything. Right.
Speaker 5 (58:51):
I wanted y'all to be successful.
Speaker 1 (58:53):
I did you know what you said? Take that tall person?
Speaker 4 (59:00):
Not what I said.
Speaker 6 (59:01):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 7 (59:09):
And did I did I hear this?
Speaker 11 (59:11):
Right?
Speaker 7 (59:11):
Speaking of bills? Now this like you said, that's the
word of the day. But did I see where Chuck
Schumer was going to going to make it a very
serious announcement about the Brown University shooting and the Sydney Australia.
Australia terrorist attack and he said, but before I do that,
I want to start like I always do, and that's
go bills.
Speaker 2 (59:29):
Yes did he really?
Speaker 1 (59:31):
That's good?
Speaker 4 (59:32):
That is that's cringe Patriots today?
Speaker 5 (59:36):
Here it is, Oh goodness, yeah, here we go there.
Speaker 12 (59:41):
And of course I'm going to say a few were
my music's still rolling.
Speaker 5 (59:46):
I'm so sorry, buddying it was stopped because it wasn't
there was a.
Speaker 2 (59:49):
Band behind it. Nobody's making fun of you or saying.
Speaker 1 (59:52):
Hey, well you should you should.
Speaker 12 (59:55):
Of course I'm going to say a few words about
the terrible shooting in Sydney, Australia. So when first, of
course is I always say, no matter what, go bills.
They beat the Patriots today, it's a big deal.
Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
That yeah good what a good tone? A little goofy? Yeah?
What about when people gues? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
What about when I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
Don't you know what he walked up they looked at
the bill? Yeah? Maybe come on, buddy, Yeah, that's I
know you always started. Let's not time and place.
Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
We are going to talk about the mass shooting in
Australia's bills. Right, We've got there's people, people have been
shot and killed in cold blood and we're certainly gonna
talk about that, but first go Bills will when I
keep your little hands, they beat they beat the Patriots.
That's a big deal, pretty big deal that people are
being slaughtered in cold blood too.
Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
I'd probably focus on big deals. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:00:53):
Also, I'd also like to update everybody on the Brown
shooting and the horrible death of Rob Ryner and his wife.
But before I do, you know, next week we play,
so good night, we will clench the conference. Also, he
brought up the NFL. We've already talked about the mass shootings. Unfortunately,
Patrick Mahomes torn acl Yeah, his season is over, tough.
(01:01:16):
Does he might even know who the backup at the Chiefs?
Speaker 7 (01:01:19):
Yeah, they didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
Man, what's his name?
Speaker 7 (01:01:22):
They played at Washington State with Leech for a little bit,
then he transferred.
Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
Oh yeah, I know Minshew Gardner, Minshew Minshew.
Speaker 7 (01:01:30):
He came in and I thought there was going to
be a backup heroic drive and.
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
He ended up throwing it interception. He was the starter
at one time? Was it Jaggs?
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
I think how did Mahomes get hurt? Since they don't
let anybody ever touch you.
Speaker 7 (01:01:42):
He was scrambling and trying to get make something out
of it, and uh, and was getting tackled and the
way his left knee went down it kind of bolted
almost like hyper extended or something. And he knew immediately, Hey,
something's bad wrong.
Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
Right, I thought he was running, hopping, yelling that's what
we do. He was, he was getting pulled down and.
Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
Just Travis and Travis Kelsey's having some kind of melt
down to his He's not playing well either and had
a great year. I mean, you knew center lead that
it was going to end completely by their time comes
for us all. But I mean they had quite a run. Yeah,
yeah they did, and they they made it. Can they
won and lost Super Bowls.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
Yeah, I'm not saying they'll never do it again, but
not this year.
Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
Something weird.
Speaker 5 (01:02:26):
So Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes both won three Super
Bowls earlier in their careers and then tore their A
c ls in their ninth seasons.
Speaker 4 (01:02:35):
But really with both teams missing the.
Speaker 5 (01:02:37):
Playoffs that year, I did not know that. That's from
Trey Wingo.
Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
Packers Packers star former Cowboy star Micah Parsons also non
contact knee injury versus the Broncos, and he's being assessed he.
Speaker 7 (01:02:53):
Was trying to get to bow Nicks and it was
who won the Broncos and and he uh, he just
he went down when whenever he planted on it, he
went down. And they're saying it's probably gonna be a
torn a cl but that official word hadn't come come
through that he's gonna get looked at today.
Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
Yep, they've been in you know, the pack is in
position to make the playoffs. But let me tell you
if they if they've lost lost him.
Speaker 7 (01:03:20):
No, no, he's.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Quite not at all.
Speaker 5 (01:03:22):
Did I see Pooka from the Rams got hurt too?
Speaker 4 (01:03:26):
He couldn't have cool but me, yeah, yeah, I'll follow
up on that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:29):
Sorry, And I know you and Greg are today just
a moment of silence at the end of the career
of John Cena.
Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
Yeah, oh I saw that.
Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
We all know this retiring from wrestling. We know this
is script. Didn't he lose?
Speaker 1 (01:03:44):
He did submission submission loss, that was it. And after
his loss he retired.
Speaker 7 (01:03:49):
Yeah, and going in, everybody knew it was his last match.
Speaker 5 (01:03:52):
Yeah, when you let him win, it was odd he
like had him in like a rear naked, choked kind
of thing, but it was his hands were at actually wrong,
which is very funny, but Sina like smiled and then
like tapped out while smiling. I think that was supposed
to illustrate something I don't know. Yeah, I'm not a
wrestling guy, honestly.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
Yeah. Okay, so there we go. You're updated out of
the sports world too.
Speaker 2 (01:04:16):
Top of the hour.
Speaker 1 (01:04:17):
We got more to do when the Rick Burgers Show
continues right after this Rick Bargers Show unscreened.
Speaker 9 (01:04:33):
Are y'all doing this morning?
Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
Good?
Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
I hope you're will Oh, we're doing.
Speaker 9 (01:04:36):
Great, thank you. I got two questions. First question is
did y'all talk about Philip Rivers?
Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
We have it, you know, yeah, we under he did
start the game and play the entire game. I know
they lost, what eighteen sixteen or something like that.
Speaker 7 (01:04:50):
Yeah, it was a field gold there at eighteen seconds left.
Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
Yeah, see Hawks won it.
Speaker 1 (01:04:55):
Yeah, and I know he threw a pass, a touchdown pass.
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
So how how did he play?
Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
Overall?
Speaker 9 (01:05:03):
I wasn't really sure. I think he I know the
last time I heard he went ten for sixteen. I
knew he threw his first touchdown pass and then he
went off and had another baby.
Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
Yeah it was I can't believe that he he just
went out there and played this highest level guy at
forty four years old. Yeah, with a playoff contention team
against another playoff team. Who by the way, the Seahawks
are now eleven and three, by.
Speaker 7 (01:05:30):
The way, very quiet, eleven good yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
Three.
Speaker 7 (01:05:33):
I didn't really know, but I want to say the
Colts might have taken the lead with forty eight seconds left,
and he just gave the Seahawks too much time. They
drove down, kicked a field goal with like eighteen seconds left,
and darn Is darn on the quarterback with the Seahawks,
don't know, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
This is his team watching it. Yeah, there's his team
watching the game. How about that?
Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
That's really And of course you know my son who's
a Colts fan, Brody all he texted, he was, all
I know is we're eight and six now.
Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Yeah, I'm like, okay, talk. I mean, how cool is
it for those kids?
Speaker 7 (01:06:02):
Now we're showing, we're showing the watch party that their coach.
Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
Is on the on the screen and he's play funny
Philip Rivers weeks ago to hustle.
Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
So Philip rivers eighteen of twenty seven for Alost like
one hundred and twenty yards, one touchdown, not bad for
someone who was sitting in his recliner eating wings last Sunday.
Speaker 4 (01:06:24):
Yeah, he had one. People are calling it a Grandpa moment.
But he recovered, he recovered well. It was it was
actually a slip.
Speaker 5 (01:06:32):
It wasn't almost almost not even his fault that he
drops back, little slip of the foot there and he
went down.
Speaker 4 (01:06:39):
But he recovered well, and I just got back to
the line.
Speaker 7 (01:06:43):
It was like almost like you said, don't hear me,
I'm forty four.
Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
Almost looked like one of us trying to get slip.
It's all right, he's been out a few years. Come on.
Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
Some other updates that we have not talked about. The
door dash driver DoorDash driver that tampered by allegedly sprang
pepper spray purple hair, put the pepper spray on somebody's
door dash meal, allegedly now being charged with a felony
(01:07:22):
felony food tampering. Did y'all know there was a felony?
She did not. She's from Kentucky and is behind bars
after allegedly pepper spray a DoorDash customer's food, later telling
authorities she had been aiming the substance at a spider.
Speaker 7 (01:07:43):
She was not doing that, so yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:07:47):
Aiming it at a spy takes the pictures of down
looks into the camera. It almost seems then.
Speaker 2 (01:07:55):
She was spraying where the food was.
Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
Yeah, well, I mean so they she walked around with
raid and they're just trying to keep a spider off
of these people.
Speaker 2 (01:08:05):
Come on about that.
Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
You're judging because her hair is purple.
Speaker 7 (01:08:09):
By the way, I'm judging because she sprayed something.
Speaker 1 (01:08:11):
Yeah, well too, Yeah what yeah, well, you know you
have some kind of you know, they'll find some way
for it to be you know, anything, Now, if somebody
does something wrong, if you just say it's wrong, there's
something you should not feel that way because of something.
Speaker 9 (01:08:24):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:08:25):
But anyway, you know, there's always some reason. Uh. But
here's what I would like to know. And I know
we have some theories that are pretty well known. But
if you if she sprayed their food, which we all
see that she did, why was it she they decided
not to tip on the app Yeah, I guess they
(01:08:45):
can see she didn't like the teas were they were
they angry? You know, I want to know more about
what happened. I think she's going to stick to the spiders.
She says, she's terrified of spiders. And the problem is
the overnight low was thirty five degrees. Outdoor spiders in
Indiana are not active and will not be capable of
(01:09:07):
crawling on exposed surface and those temperatures that's gonna hurt.
Oh wow, so we got to sign that you always
hate when the bug people were in. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:09:16):
No, No, she was really scared of spiders. Wouldn't she
have looked a little bit more startled, you know, like
you know she was. She just stood there all calm like.
Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
And but I don't like that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
No one likes like a member of the family is going, well,
you know, maybe she got mad about I mean, yeah,
you just something unprovoked. But again I go back to
that stuff's usually pretty stout. And these people ate and
got sick. Did they not smell it on their bag? Yeah?
They said that they the party, they get sick from it.
They did.
Speaker 2 (01:09:45):
That's the part I don't get. Why could they not
smell it?
Speaker 1 (01:09:49):
That? That's the part I do not understand it. There's
two things that I don't understand the story, and this
is another one of them. And they said that, uh,
they said that they had a burning sensation in their mouths, noses, throats,
and stomachs before unfortunately becoming so nauseated that they hurled.
(01:10:11):
I say, is that just from it coming into the
home smelling? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:10:15):
Now, Greg, we've been so hungry, we've just torn into something.
Speaker 5 (01:10:18):
I'm spelling fries too, You're hungry smelling friends.
Speaker 1 (01:10:25):
I've been waiting on door dash before, and yeah, and
I've been so hungry. I do think that I would
have thought, well, that's just some sort of spice on there,
you know, and would have gone all in, dove in right.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
So anyway, so she is being charged with a felony. Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:10:41):
And you know, I speaking of food, I heard I
saw the you tell me about to feel good story?
So you know the shrimp basket restaurants?
Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
Oh yeah, I love them.
Speaker 2 (01:10:49):
The one in Pensacola.
Speaker 7 (01:10:50):
There was this there was a chef that had someone
that came in every day, was an elderly man that
would come in and eat, and a chef and him
kind of built to relate.
Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
And I stopped right here, shrimp basket and chef.
Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
Yeah, wait, the guy, the cook.
Speaker 1 (01:11:03):
Do you know somebody cooks a shrimp basket?
Speaker 2 (01:11:05):
The story said chef.
Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
But I'm not. I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
We called the shrimp basket guys, well, I mean that
feels a little lofty. You've never had their shrimp basket.
Speaker 1 (01:11:15):
Yes, I have the chef, and I like shrimp basket,
but I've never thought i'd like to say to the chef,
how good the popcorn shrimp was? Okay, I'm tost I
speak with the chef.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
Hell of a hush pepper. I mean, I.
Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
Just chef feels a little It just feels a little
big for a shrimp basket.
Speaker 4 (01:11:40):
Compliments.
Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
It's a it's a change fries, and.
Speaker 1 (01:11:45):
It's a chain. And by the way, this is something
I did. I just did it in Captain Dan's last week. Uh,
you know, somebody bring this chef out here. I got
to talk about this handed fish. The story said chef.
Speaker 7 (01:12:02):
I'm not going to finish the stories because because we
won't get past the ship. Just just google shrimp basket
and uh and.
Speaker 1 (01:12:10):
And what did he do?
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
I'm not going to say, because I mean.
Speaker 7 (01:12:15):
No, he was an elderly man that would come in
every day in order, and he noticed that for a
couple of days he didn't come in. It was like clockwork.
Speaker 1 (01:12:21):
So he actually visited his home and he had fallen
and and he was knocking on the door and he.
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
Heard in the distance.
Speaker 7 (01:12:29):
So he'd been laying he'd been laying at the distance, okay,
and and uh.
Speaker 2 (01:12:34):
And so the guy with the chef had on rescuing.
Speaker 7 (01:12:36):
He got in the door and and and and end
up and end up saving the man calling for help.
And then uh, and then the employees went in and
got him a place right beside the shrimp basket. So
and they kind of take care of it. So it
was actually a film.
Speaker 8 (01:12:57):
It was.
Speaker 2 (01:12:58):
It was it was just beside it. It was a
little house just beside it.
Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
Greg mishund Award winning shrimp basket like this.
Speaker 7 (01:13:07):
They were watching the Army Navy game. But that happen
and y'all can destroy that. But it was a really
it was a good, feel feel good story in today's
crappy world that of all the stuff, he's actually people
that care about.
Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
I never anyway you could give me the slaw recipe
anyway at all.
Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
Compliments to this. Greg got at waffle house chef job
because he's right over there.
Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
Oh yeah, the chef. The old man fell to see
if we can move him closer to this.
Speaker 7 (01:13:39):
Because you said you've seen the story. You heard him
call him shif.
Speaker 1 (01:13:42):
No, I didn't, actually did not he really j why
I didn't hear chef? Because I saw it happened in
a shrimp basket and I love shrimp basket. It's fantastic
there when I go to the beach here in a
couple of weeks. Sure, I mean I didn't. I didn't
say his Frank Stitz here. That's like, you know, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:14:00):
The guy for I think I said it.
Speaker 1 (01:14:02):
So sometimes I prefer the froed cook over a chef anyway. Yeah, so,
but that's a good hush puppies. I mean I watched
Dad make fish and hush puppies and fries and you
know the top. It didn't it didn't like it required
him going to a culinary schoop. No, but wouldn't you
specialize that will let me Fried Fitch but Ben shrimp
but of the restaurant and uh also over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
Like I said, I'll just destroyed that story.
Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
Not as not as much of a feel good story.
But Ada just made the point Menego and Minigo. Has
anybody's life turned around any quicker than Sharon Moore?
Speaker 7 (01:14:36):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (01:14:36):
I mean you go from I am the five million
dollars a year coach of the Michigan Wolverines in the
Big House to all of a sudden, what was it
that It seemed like it was just hours and he's
in there with the with the prison suit on. He's
got a prison suit on and cuffs and being told
by judge that he was gonna be wearing an ankle bracelet.
Speaker 2 (01:14:53):
Yes, I mean that happened quick, and.
Speaker 4 (01:14:55):
It's broadcasted on the air. They're like, you're gonna you
can't leave.
Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
It's the Cola Florida.
Speaker 11 (01:15:01):
One customer he has been at for lunch, he always
ordered a cup of gumbo, light on the rice, hold
the cracker. And again at dinner, cup of gumbo, white rice,
no cracker. It was that every day, twice a day
for ten years.
Speaker 1 (01:15:18):
I appreciation with Chef Daniell Stalald chef.
Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
Okay, that's all.
Speaker 4 (01:15:22):
I'm sorry. I just pulled that up.
Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
I wanted to make the chef.
Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
Danail put Jeff on the front of it at that.
Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
Go back to.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
That chef Janelle.
Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
Of course, shrimp Basket stowed that chef from Long John
Silver also allowed to put bishop front the name.
Speaker 2 (01:15:44):
All right, so here back.
Speaker 7 (01:15:45):
Over to go back to that. He said that, look,
the old mayor was laying down in his house.
Speaker 1 (01:15:51):
You call him chef.
Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
He's a hero. By the way, you should eat gumbo
to watch the day. Apparently, Yeah, well more than this,
that's kind of a yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
For ten years, that's all they had, Hey, Papa, mix
it up? Ten years?
Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
Okay, the but here's Sharon, look at this.
Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
That's just got right. Here was the coach in Michigan.
Speaker 4 (01:16:09):
Did they normally show this on TV?
Speaker 7 (01:16:12):
Like like.
Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
He's in the bathroom on the toilet.
Speaker 1 (01:16:17):
Is he on the toilet?
Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
Yeah? They craft the picture picture him in his in
his Michigan gear on the sidelines leading the wolverine. It's easy.
Great because it just happened, I mean last week.
Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
And look and a pair of kitchen scissors and began
to threaten his own life.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
I'm going to kill myself that. Oh wow, so you
use a butter knife, well yeah, that's all he had.
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
Yeah, and find sharp knives. Sound like it's a chef
at Shrimp bas.
Speaker 1 (01:16:51):
About five stars. Yet, what's your specialty? Well that gumbo
and some slough easy on the rice on the rice, okay,
ground it made.
Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
Me real hungry.
Speaker 1 (01:17:01):
I wish I had, I wish I had a shrimp
basket right now.
Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
I like them.
Speaker 1 (01:17:05):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 6 (01:17:07):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
Video ten.
Speaker 1 (01:17:17):
I saw this, this this one right here.
Speaker 7 (01:17:23):
Oh yeah, nine and ten are crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:17:25):
Well.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
Ten is the one that hurts the most because Greg,
this team in Louisiana has won the state championship in
their division. They are simply kneeling down to run the cloth.
I saw this, and some memrod on the offensive line
takes his helmet. Now this other team has missed. Was
it a p A T that would have tied the game?
Led to this, and so all he's doing is kneeling.
(01:17:47):
The game is over. All you have to do is
simply just not take your helmet off while the play
is still going on the field, and you win the
state championship. He takes his helmet off, they penalize them.
The other team gets the ball and kicks a field
going beach. Yes, okay, so what number fifty? He had
(01:18:08):
his ready to play tonight? He had his defense right
what you can see right, he had his teeth center.
You had his defense ready to play tonight. The coachers like,
what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
Don't do that?
Speaker 7 (01:18:22):
For Saint Charles Catholic was done by Christ shrank.
Speaker 6 (01:18:25):
The punt and look at this.
Speaker 5 (01:18:27):
Look at this, Saint Charles Catholic's got new life.
Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
They shank the punt.
Speaker 7 (01:18:32):
Now they're a field goal right sixteen seconds left.
Speaker 1 (01:18:34):
Now see the numbers.
Speaker 7 (01:18:35):
Should you see that fourth and forty.
Speaker 6 (01:18:38):
High step they get it down, It heads to the uprights.
Speaker 1 (01:18:41):
Is good?
Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
Look at that?
Speaker 7 (01:18:45):
Oh my goodness, from a heartbreak to the hero.
Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
All right, so let me ask you guys, and text
nations already started, do you throw the flag? I mean,
the teams won the game.
Speaker 7 (01:18:59):
He didn't just take his helmet off. He took his
helmet off and threw it up and threw it up
in the air. I don't know how you don't call.
Speaker 1 (01:19:05):
That, but I mean the time I'm confused on off
brothers in the thirty five seconds. So they ended up that,
well thirty thirty seconds by the time they called the penalty,
or thirty three, thirty two, thirty one, thirty twenty nine,
twenty seven, twenty eight, twenty like nineteen, so about nineteen
(01:19:26):
seconds when they punt Greg but he but he gets
somebody gets a hand on it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
It only goes a few yards. So now they're in
field goal range. That is insane.
Speaker 4 (01:19:36):
Wow. And that's that guys.
Speaker 5 (01:19:39):
Louisiana State football championship lost because I threw my helmet
in the air.
Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
My goodness, you know that kid felt like I did
this whole Coach camb.
Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
That's funny. I'm not even choking. That relates to that kid.
But I'm not even joking.
Speaker 1 (01:19:59):
By the way, some with a great one. I text
Nation just found out that kids playing for Auburn next year.
All right, So but if you're standing there and I
mean he's he's kneeled, it's gonna run out. There's not
like it's it's affecting the game at all. There's no
(01:20:20):
there's not another staff even coming. It's just winding down.
Everybody's shaking hands and going over to the their their
crowds and sidelines. Do you punt it?
Speaker 6 (01:20:31):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:20:39):
Are y'all done with our text? Are y'all done with
Christmas shopping?
Speaker 7 (01:20:44):
No? I am. I have probably normally Terry and I
will tag team and go, okay, you get this, I
get this or whatever. She's off and running.
Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
I have no. I don't know what's going on.
Speaker 1 (01:20:56):
We jumped the gun a little bit on one of
our kids, you know, because you know, they live all
over the place, okay, and you never know who's going
to get home who's not. And so Sherry like got
excited about something for our oldest son and his wife,
and she fired off some things to them for Christmas early,
thinking they're probably not going to get home for Christmas,
(01:21:19):
and now they are.
Speaker 2 (01:21:20):
Right, and I'm like, well, they don't.
Speaker 1 (01:21:22):
Have any presents. Now, now what about when we play
thirty Santa? And you know, and Lee Lee's a bingo addition.
I mean, I mean, what are.
Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
We going to do?
Speaker 1 (01:21:33):
So we've had to go get Sherry's done a great
job of getting out there and get it done. I
think we're done. I had a lot of stuff delivered
in my house. I'm sure it's And have y'all noticed
this one thing too? Have y'all noticed like listening to
Christmas music, which, by the way, the Christmas queen my wife,
we even have a Christmas queen. She is not going
to listen to anything other than Christmas music right now.
(01:21:55):
I mean she's not open to any other music. Yeah, okay,
so if you're in her car, it's rolling her sherrys
Christmas music whatever it is, list how you build those playlists,
And I started picking up that people would change the
lyrics on classic songs. Oh really, I'll be home for Christmas?
Which do I have this right? I'll be home for Christmas. Ultimately,
(01:22:17):
at the end, this person's not going to get home
for Christmas because it's it's even in their dreams, even
if it's just my dreams, I'm going home, which I
in that kind of a signal they're not coming home
for Christmas. They're dreaming and they're yearning to be home
for Christmas, but they really aren't, you know, if only
in my dream. So I've noticed that when it goes,
(01:22:40):
you know, please have missile toe. And I've heard presence
on the tree. If you go way back, did people
used to put presents on the tree.
Speaker 4 (01:22:48):
Then I've heard presence on the tree.
Speaker 1 (01:22:50):
Then I've heard presence under the tree, which is what
we do. And then I heard Boo Bleake doing presence
by the tree. Can you just change the lyrics like that?
Speaker 5 (01:23:00):
Yeah, I think presents used to be shoved into the
tree if I'm thinking correctly about like old school, but tradition.
Speaker 1 (01:23:06):
I've heard the lyric three different lyrics according to who's
sing it, you know, missile too and get into presence,
undo the tree, presence in the tree, presence by the tree.
Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
Well, which one is it on?
Speaker 4 (01:23:19):
Is it looks like the original lyrics?
Speaker 1 (01:23:21):
I think you're right, Yeah, tell you that's right. What
always confuses me? And I think we've discussed this before.
Speaker 2 (01:23:26):
On the old movies, they put the tree up on
Christmas Eve?
Speaker 1 (01:23:29):
Correct, instead of it getting it up early. Everybody look
at it, They put up one day. Would you be
open to that? Not really? You know some people say
that the twelve days of Christmas start on Christmas Day,
not up to Christmas.
Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
There we go.
Speaker 1 (01:23:42):
I'm just telling you Earth, I'm not saying we do
it that way. I'm ready to be done with it
by then. Yeah, with our whole lives, we've always put
the tree up weeks out from Christmas. And remember that thing.
Speaker 2 (01:23:53):
Mom had it, and it had a little you tie
the string.
Speaker 1 (01:23:56):
And when you don't do one so many days I
nearly had a conniption waiting on that thing. Oh, I'd
go in out and say, look we got before more.
You ever go in there and like somebody had not
untied the day and you're like hey. Now.
Speaker 2 (01:24:08):
Yeah, by the way, I got in trouble for that.
Speaker 1 (01:24:09):
Over the weekend, I just got a slight correction. Went
to a restaurant. They're counted down. They were off a
day somebody. I said, hey, y'all need to flip that
next day. Sure's that unbelievable. That's wrong, wrong, amount of.
Speaker 6 (01:24:22):
Days left up?
Speaker 2 (01:24:22):
You just you trying to fix everything? Body about this.
Speaker 1 (01:24:25):
The first thing I saw when I came in, I
was going to be excited. You were off by day.
Speaker 7 (01:24:29):
Have y'all ever lately? Like as a grown up, skip
back and listen to a song again.
Speaker 1 (01:24:35):
Like right back, back to back.
Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
Rare, rare. I used to do it all the time
when I was young, Right, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (01:24:41):
It's rare because River could hear something a thousand times
and he's again, pops again again again.
Speaker 1 (01:24:48):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:24:49):
But I got into the week I did, uh, And
I kind of blame you. Rick Zach Williams Spirit of
Christmas love it.
Speaker 2 (01:24:56):
It's a good song. I love his version and it's
very much like Ray Charles.
Speaker 1 (01:25:00):
I just love it right, And I listened to it
for the third time, and I said, that's it, You're three.
I did.
Speaker 7 (01:25:06):
I I was riding down the road.
Speaker 1 (01:25:08):
I liked it.
Speaker 7 (01:25:10):
I was like, let me dial that.
Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
You got a way at least thirty minutes?
Speaker 1 (01:25:13):
Can Christmas music?
Speaker 2 (01:25:14):
Can Christmas music be too old or too new? Who
do you ever? You say?
Speaker 1 (01:25:19):
It's got to be somewhere in between? What can it
be too old? I feel strange the original recording. I
really don't have to go any further back than that
King Cole, Yeah, you go back for the giant Matthis
about it, Greg.
Speaker 2 (01:25:30):
You can't go to jis maths not now, you know?
Speaker 1 (01:25:33):
I noticed, like, what's up with that King Cole trying
to sing Merry Christmas in Italian? Why we got to
have that? I don't know for the Italians. By the way,
have y'all seen Jose is it Felicia? But have you
seen that horrible video where he's singing a Sting song
and he's not singing it very well, and they focus
on Sting's face and he's trying to have a good
(01:25:55):
face about it, but he can't help it. He starts
kind of grimacing a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
So basically he can only sing the one.
Speaker 1 (01:26:00):
At least I've never heard him sing anything that I
haven't either, and attempted and he attempts to do a sting.
So I don't know when it was. He's still alive
and just recing this said.
Speaker 4 (01:26:07):
Something like Kennedy Center or something.
Speaker 1 (01:26:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:26:10):
Oh, it looks like one of the men in there
about just.
Speaker 4 (01:26:13):
Watch I've got.
Speaker 2 (01:26:18):
Yes, why watch sting stroke?
Speaker 1 (01:26:21):
Look you turn around? Don't you turn your back out?
Every nine Steve Paul watched Greg turn around, turn it down?
Oh you turn around and watching?
Speaker 4 (01:26:41):
Oh guys, there he is.
Speaker 1 (01:26:43):
Oh my gosh, you're not watching.
Speaker 2 (01:26:46):
He could not he sting, couldn't stop it, he could
not stomp it. Of course.
Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
All I can think is he had b o right
there speed he claimed he stump he did? Greg?
Speaker 7 (01:26:56):
Are you the one that said that y'all bought the
game where the little red ball hangs down from down
and you punch it.
Speaker 1 (01:27:03):
Yeah, it's pretty hard.
Speaker 7 (01:27:04):
Is it fun?
Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
Oh? It's outstanding.
Speaker 7 (01:27:06):
Do y'all have the app to where you could show
it on the TV?
Speaker 2 (01:27:08):
Yeah, we didn't go.
Speaker 1 (01:27:09):
That far, but Greg, you kind of had it last
year and but you got practice with it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
It's hard.
Speaker 7 (01:27:17):
I means you get I got was pretty good, and
I still got what's pretty good?
Speaker 1 (01:27:20):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:27:21):
I don't remember you don't remember you. I'm just hoping
I can playing.
Speaker 7 (01:27:25):
No, we've thought about getting money for the for the
like yeah, you you it just hangs down on a
string in front of you and you punch it. So
you're supposed to have an app that you mirror up
on the TV and it counts. That counts the numbers
and the family plays each other rolling.
Speaker 2 (01:27:40):
But it's hard, I'm telling you.
Speaker 1 (01:27:41):
Is it like working on a you know, a speed bag,
like as a box kind of but it's flying back
at you.
Speaker 2 (01:27:47):
Yeah, pretty good? How about my rotator?
Speaker 1 (01:27:48):
CUF?
Speaker 2 (01:27:49):
How would it fair?
Speaker 1 (01:27:49):
And if you're really good you can go people that
you can do? Do you do.
Speaker 2 (01:27:52):
You think.
Speaker 1 (01:27:55):
That hurts a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:27:56):
It's pretty just that we had it like I've had
it last year for Christmas.
Speaker 1 (01:27:59):
We well, Chuck Norris doing it. Hey, the people that
are good at it can do it.
Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
Chuck Norris is doing it. I may get it out
and start working. Are you are?
Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
People use it for you know, coordination and all this.
Just get one ball or two one one?
Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
Buddy?
Speaker 1 (01:28:14):
Have you ever said that you.
Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
Can get one, two and three four?
Speaker 7 (01:28:16):
You can get you can get a ten pack.
Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
Oh oh no, I just had the thing asking the
kids got a hold of it.
Speaker 2 (01:28:24):
And this was last year. So Mary Hollis was not
even she was one something.
Speaker 1 (01:28:28):
I look in the head is strapped on her head, little.
Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
Arms are going, there's nowhere around.
Speaker 1 (01:28:37):
We gave it a shot. What don't do that? I
can't wait to work him and do a frenzy. Okay,
it won't be hard to be Christmas Eve. Oh but
I do.
Speaker 7 (01:28:47):
All the celebrities are putting out them doing it, and
then I do think R. A. K Jr. Was on
he joined us celebrity they were hitting the ball right.
Speaker 2 (01:28:56):
Celebrities put out videos of themselves doing it.
Speaker 1 (01:28:59):
We don't. It's in the conversation and what's talking about.
And some people became celebrities.
Speaker 7 (01:29:04):
For doing Oh yeah, absolutely, yeah, yeah, they shouldn't be
doing that.
Speaker 2 (01:29:09):
Keep back to yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:29:11):
