College Football Week 7 is upon us, and we're diving deep into what might be the steeliest slate of the season. This isn't about flashy plays or explosive offenses—this week belongs to the teams willing to do the dirty work in the trenches.

After walking back through some extra thoughts on Alabama-Mizzou, Ohio State-Illinois and Indiana-Oregon, we get down to business. In this episode, we break down every major matchup and the debates get heated as we disagree on nearly every pick, including whether Oklahoma can shock Texas, if Auburn can pull the upset in Jordan-Hare, and which team controls the trenches in Michigan vs USC. Plus, we preview BYU-Arizona, Iowa State-Colorado, and a loaded slate of under-the-radar games that could shape the playoff picture.

Plus, as a special treat, ESPN's Chris Fowler joins us to discuss the season's biggest surprises, why he misses calling games out West, and more. We also get his take on the unpredictability of this college football season and what makes a great broadcast moment.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to the solid verbal hull ah for me. I'm
a man, I'm forty. I've heard so many players say, well,
I want to be happy. You want to be happy
for a day?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Edo State is that?

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Whoo whoom?

Speaker 2 (00:14):
And Dan and Tye.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Dan Robertstein. Week seven is upon us, my friend, Welcome
back to the show, Welcome back to the kind of
baller hood. I am shut out of a cannon. I
am excited for week seven. We have a loaded show
to go through today, many more games to discuss than
we talked about on Tuesday. I am ready to roll

(00:41):
up my sleeves and get the work. Sir, how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:44):
I'm terrific, Ty. Maybe it should be seven minutes in
heaven Saturday, right, this is week seven, But I don't
know how I could twist an explanation into that. Although
next year twenty twenty six, write it down.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
That'll lock it in.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, seven minutes in heaven Saturday, Colin kiss responsibly. Sure,
I'm very good, Ty, This is a great week. This
is a deep week.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Sometimes you have, you know, a couple big headliners and
everything else you're not sure what to get excited about.
I mean, you're always excited about college football. But this
goes deep into every conference. Big conference, smaller conference, medium
sized conference, take your pick. This week has everything. And
the more I look at the specific matchups tie, the

(01:30):
more I think it is one of the even though
it's replete, is that what the word? I'm complete? I
don't know. With terrific matchups, there's something that's decidedly kind
of unglamorous about Week seven that the teams that win,
the teams that pull up sets, the teams that are successful.
It's not going to come from, you know, a sexy

(01:51):
edge rusher with three and a half tackles for a
loss in two sacks. It's not going to come from
hitting bombs over the top. It's not going to come
for long runs. It's not going to come with trick plays.
There's something about boring football that I think is going
to dominate the surprises or the confirmations of Week seven,
and so there's going to be a certain amount of

(02:13):
determination that I think is going to decide things like
who is more determined to be more boringly successful in
Week seven. I know you're looking at me skeptically, skeptical,
Saturday col and what is Dan talking about? Sure? What
I'm saying, it's a Steely Saturday col and do the
dirty work.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
We don't have the rights to that. Turn it off.
Turn it off.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
It's a cover. It's a cover. It's a cover. It's
an acoustic cover. So I got into Steely Dan yesterday
pretty hard. I got into Steely Dan pretty hard. Okay,
So but no, as I look at the schedule, let
me let me show my work right real quick. These
are some examples. Right. If Florida is going to pull
the upset in College Station, the offensive line is going

(02:58):
to have to come through against that Texas A and
M D. Right, they're just going to have to be
boringly competent. DJ Lagway is not gonna pop them over
the top for four hundred yards. No, he absolutely is. Not.
Arizona State Utah. That's gonna be nothing but dirty work
no matter who wins that game. Right, Yes, If Auburn's
gonna pull the upset against Georgia in a rivalry spot,
it's not gonna because Jackson Arnold's thrown for three hundred

(03:19):
and twelve yards.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Right, He's definitely not gonna throw for three hundre. They're
just going defense is gonna have to get off the field.
They're gonna have to get third and shorts right, They're
gonna do boring things. Usc is not gonna score forty
five against Michigan. If usc is gonna win a tight game, it's,
you know, it's getting off the field on third and short. It's,
you know, scaling back the penalties. I just you look
across the sport, and you could say that about most weeks,

(03:42):
but I think this week in particular, it's going to
be sort of a lunch palely effort for the surprisingly
successful teams. Steely Saturday, Colon, do the dirty work, or
I don't want to do your dirty work. Frank Beamer
lunch Paiale defense a little bit, absolutely right, or Bud Foster,
Bud Foster and Frank Bieber. Of course, Well, welcome back,
one and all. Thank you so much for joining us

(04:02):
here as we go through a Steely Saturday.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Colin do the dirty work.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
My name is Ty, his name is Dan. Hit Follow hit,
subscribe that you don't miss any of our episodes. Of course,
if you want to hear Dan and I react to
all of the games that we're about to describe in
real time, you can do so. Stay up late with
us on Saturday night going out to the YouTube channel.
We've got our live reaction stream at midnight. The only

(04:29):
other bit of housekeeping that I have here. Yes, forballers
dot Com, you're aware of verbawlers dot Com. You're aware
of running the board. That's our weekly pick them game
against the spread. What you may not be aware of is,
because this is such a big week, five hundred dollars
gift card is on the line. Five hundred dollars Visa

(04:49):
gift card on the line. Not a sponsor could be. Yeah,
paying for this out of our own jar of petty cash.
Big weeks deserve big prizes and alas, we have a
ride here where we're bringing the gift card back out
of retirement. So forballers dot com is where you go
to sign up. All members of our certified and Premium
tiers are able to play and are eligible for prizes.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Dan Ruvenstein the best, the absolute best, and less unless
you're afraid to compete.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Dam and time to help you any fix of the week.
I am fired up. Yeah, buddy, we covered three games
on Tuesday. If you don't hear us talking about any
of these at length, that's why we went into I
think a sufficient deep dive of each on the Tuesday episode.

(05:41):
But those three games are Alabama on the road at Missouri,
Ohio State on the road at Illinois, Indiana on the
road at your Oregon Ducks. Benefit of hindsight, Now you
did that episode about forty eight hours ago. Yeah, any
lingering thoughts, I like, benefit of hindsight, like I know

(06:02):
what happened.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
In these games, as I am going to repick them. No,
I think it's all pretty reinforced. I went back and
watched Ohio State's defense more closely and haven't slept since
because they are terrified ridiculous. The takeaway I had, and
this isn't related specifically to Illinois, but obviously applies to
Illinois this week, is you're gonna need nine ten of

(06:25):
your eleven dudes on offense against this Ohio State defense
to be playing out of their minds on every play.
If you're going to be routinely successful, not crazy successful.
If you are going to be able to hit seven,
eight nine yard passes, sometimes you're gonna have to be electric.
And so that's pretty scary. And look, they haven't played

(06:45):
a murderer's row of offenses yet. Obviously, the Texas offense
has been disappointing. Washington's offense disappointed across the country against
Maryland for much of that game. But you just see
the talent and determination and consistency of this Ohio State defense.
It's hard for me to see Illinois coming up with
a ton of answers, even though it's at home, it's
at noon whatever Eastern. In terms of Missoo Alabama, the

(07:10):
only thing that has changed with the benefit of more
thought is situationally, and like wagering trend wise, it really
is a terrific spot for Miszoo. They've been great as
a home dog. Alabama has struggled as a road favorite
under Kaylin de Boor. Obviously, Miszoo has a rest advantage.
Alabama's coming off of two straight not emotional wins because

(07:32):
it wasn't especially close against Vanderbilt late, but still game
day was there, it was a big deal win and
Vanderbilt was ranked that it is a prime letdown spot,
not because of Miszoo's status, but just because of Alabama's
possible exhaustion. So that's that's that, Like cocktail of trend

(07:52):
gave me a little bit more pause. But you know what,
I planned my flag. I'm sticking to Bama. There any
two of those. I mean, I can talk about Oregon
Indiana too.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
I want to talk about Oregon Indiana because I went
back and rewatched the Indiana Illinois game for the probably
third time now, just in the run up to doing
this show, actually in the run up to doing the
one that we did on Tuesday as well. But I mean,
it really felt like Indiana just took all of the

(08:21):
soul out of the ALLIONI and in the second half,
Illinois kind of quit. In the second half. Indiana was
like running the same play over and over and over again,
the same running play over and over and over again
in the fourth quarter, and they still continued to score.
Like I don't think they were trying to run the
score up. I just think that a they were that

(08:43):
good with many backups, or b Illinois had quit entirely,
probably some combination of both. But more to the point
of the killer instinct thing that I have talked about
with Indiana, I get we haven't seen it across the
board in many of the big games they've played over
the last year and a half or so, But again,
it is this culture of just really going for it.

(09:05):
Against any and all opponents that I think is really
interesting in a matchup against Oregon. I am not expecting
them to beat Oregon, but I just think it's a
really tough team with a better level of talent, and
if they can do half of what they did against Illinois,
perhaps they could put Oregon in a different place emotionally

(09:26):
that we have seen the Ducks be at at any
point this season outside of you know what we saw
firsthand at the white out.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Yeah, it's which coach? Which of these coaches, who are
both steely and who are both maniacs in their own way,
are closer in Oddsen Stadium to I mean it's an
Apple menu item right, force quit? Yep? So who's close
to the force quit button? Because I don't think either
of these teams, if they fall behind, have any quit

(09:54):
in them. No, but which of these teams right right?
Which of these teams is more pronounced in their ability
to hit that button? I? Uh, yeah, I think Oregon
has many more advantages because it's in Audsin Stadium, and
I think the talent discrepancy is such that we haven't

(10:14):
seen Indiana beat a team composed like Oregon yet under
Kurt Signetti right, They've played Notre Dame. Last season, they
played Ohio State, they played Michigan and beat Michigan, but
offensively they really did struggle in that game. So they
beat Michigan, to their credit, and that game was in Indiana,
so away from home. With the performance against Iowa offense,

(10:36):
the performance on offense against Notre Dame away from home,
and now you know some question about in my mind
about like Indiana's offensive line, especially that right side, or
Indiana on defense having not played terrific offenses this year. Illinois,
we take your opinion that I just think there's too

(10:56):
much for Oregon here in this spot. Fernando Mendoza has
played Anson Staium, which I think is a credit to
his experience that he knows what to expect in this
kind of atmosphere. Did not perform when he was a
cal quarterback there. But everybody's allowed to grow and improve,
and I think he most certainly has. So I'm sticking
with my pick that Oregon wins and covers here. I

(11:18):
just with the bye week, playing at home situationally, and
I know Indiana has a bye week as well, I
just think Oregon is in a really nice position to
regroup and really really play crisp football at home against
a really good Indiana team.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Fifty five percent of the bets right now are on Indiana,
but ninety one percent of the money is on Oregon,
so a bit of a disparity there. I think it
speaks to the people with the money are going hard
at the Ducks in this one, but perhaps a lot
of the public trying to back the side of the underdog.
We will see again. This game is one of the
big ones that is taking place on this year Week seven.

(11:54):
That one's going to be three point thirty. Our friends
at CBS are going to be on the call.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
I think CBS is like bringing the whole thing, right.
They're bringing, like the whole coach bus. They're bringing like
the studio team. It's great. They're doing it up.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Also at three point thirty. This one on ABC for years,
we've called this one the Red River Shootout Texas is
a point and a half favorite. I think this might
be the year, Dan, you ready for it that we
get the Red River rock fight? Okay, well, do the
dirty work, right, do the dirty work. I could see

(12:26):
that happening here. It feels to me like we might
be headed in that direction. This is a Texas offense
that has shown some flashes but has definitely fallen short
of most of our expectations. It's an Oklahoma offense that
has been dramatically better this season with John Mattier. Will
John Mattire play in this game? I think is an

(12:47):
open question. It didn't look as if he was going to.
It seemed as if it was going to be a
Michael Hawkins Oklahoma.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Did you see the clothes from today?

Speaker 1 (12:55):
I did that.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Brent Vetnables has said, like, John Mattier hasn't played in
like actual football this week. He's not. He hasn't practiced.
Good on good right? That? Like, why would we play
somebody who doesn't practice? Essentially is what he's saying.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
But who knows?

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Right?

Speaker 1 (13:10):
So there are these reports out there at time of recording.
We're doing this around midday on Wednesday. Matier could play.
I still tend to think he won't. But either way,
this is a historic rivalry. Either way, this is a
very tight point spread, basically a coin flip, which side
are you back in?

Speaker 2 (13:28):
As one real top? Okay, so are we previewing this
game assuming Michael Hawkins? Is that how we're approaching this.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
I am going to preview this one with a couple
of caveats. My assumption is that it's going to be
Michael Hawkins though.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Okay, so basically you're getting either Michael Hawkins or a
pretty limited John Mattier physically.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Maybe, I mean, maybe he's got a bionic hand that
were surgery on his hand, on his thumb whatever. Yeah,
like two weeks ago had surgery. And apparently now he's
pushing to try and back out there. Like you said, Venables,
not really spilling the beans at this point, saying that
he's going to be out there for sure, kind of
tamping that down a little bit, and I think that's
probably the right right approach.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Okay, I think Michael Hawkins is fine. He obviously this
He played in this game last year as Oklahoma got
destroyed thirty four to three, thirty four to three. So
if you're going to take Oklahoma in this game with
Michael Hawkins, you're assuming defense plus some competence on offense
is enough to win this game. Like Ty said in
a Rock Fight twenty to thirteen, seventeen, thirteen, twelve, ten,

(14:31):
take your pick, right. This game has been all over
the map in recent years. In terms of the score
and the winner, and the type of game that was played,
and how sloppy or not sloppy it was. I think
we may as a sport, as people talking about the sport,
we may have gone too far in one direction about Texas.
Texas has been basically incompetent on offense against quality competition,

(14:53):
largely due to an offensive line that has been nowhere
near dependable, which has hampered arch Man arch Manning has
hampered arch Manning, Steve Sarkisian has struggled to figure out
ways to get this offense going. I mean, it's Ohio
State and Florida. These are good defenses. Obviously, in some
cases great Texas is to penalize. They're not good on
third down, like they check a lot of bad boxes.

(15:17):
This Texas offense. There's a lot to still like about
this Texas defense, though they do have the you know,
some issues in terms of penalties, and they weren't great
against Florida. I think we've gone too far in the
direction of like, oh, Texas is bad. Let's just assume
Texas is bad and they're not good anymore. And I
don't think I'm going that far. What's the line in
this game right now and.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
A half, right now, four in favor of Texas, in
favor of Texas.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
I think I'm actually taking Texas. I'm taking Texas here
because I think Oklahoma has gotten a pass on certain
things because they've won. And that's fair. That's a good
thing to win, obviously, But I'm not sold on this offense.
I'm actually not sold on it without John Matier or
with a severely limited Jo Materier. And I think this

(16:07):
is a good place for arch Manning to be okay.
It's not a great defense to be okay. I mean,
if he is only okay against his Oklahoma defense, that's
a good thing. I just don't know how much is
Oklahoma defense has actually been tested this year. I think
the numbers are a little bit inflated, and that's fine.
I'm going Texas here because I do believe that there

(16:30):
is room for them to grow, and that growing is
not a crazy thought. I think that they can get
the ball to playmakers a little bit more efficiently. I
think the Florida game may have been a wake up
call that, like, Okay, we need to plan around this
offensive line, not with this offensive line. We need to
roll Arch out a little bit more. We need the
quick game going a little bit more. We can't count
on him being protected enough to sit in a pocket

(16:52):
and go through progressions. So I think you're going to
see a Texas offense that's better equipped to succeed despite
an offensive line against Oklahoma, and Oklahoma will be ready
for that. And I'm just not buying Michael Hawkins right now.
I'm not buying the running game of Oklahoma without joh Matier.
I'm not buying, you know, the weaponry, the depth of
weaponry of offensive skill for Oklahoma right now. So I

(17:15):
do think Texas has the ability, provided they can clean
up a little bit of their slop, to win an
ugly game because of pass rush, linebackers and boring offense
that will improve because of the size of this game.
I think they're going to rise to the occasion. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
My issue with this one is it's inn Ashanti game.
For me. Yeah, it's trust, you know, I mean it
looks like a close one. Yeah, it's all about trust.
And I don't know what the trust I hear you're
what do you think is the most trustworthy unit on
this field on Saturday?

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Uh? What's his name? Taylor Wine and r Mason Thomas
defensive line for Oklahoma. It's a terrible matchup.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
From yeah, I would say more broadly, the Oklahoma defense,
to me, sure feels like the answer. And what I
took a great deal of time trying to comprehend this
week was the idea that the Texas offense might be
the least trustworthy unit on the field, which, if you
think about it, it's like an enormous one to eighty compared
to what we thought in the preseason. Texas is not

(18:19):
a good running team. Arch Manning has not been that
good of a passer. His completion percentage is just sixty percent.
Texas is eighty second nationally in passing success rates. To
quote the wise profit Bob slide L from Office Base, Dan,
what would you say you do here?

Speaker 2 (18:34):
I hear you.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
So something's got to change, and I'm just I'm not
super confident that that's going to happen this week with
even more pressure on them, and now they're going up
against the top five, top ten defense. I mean, we
could debate how good Oklahoma's defense is. I think you've
got a valid point that maybe they haven't been fully tested,
but it's still pretty good, right I totally.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
No, it's not pretty good. It is really good, really good.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
I think there is potential here for Texas to stretch
the field. I think you can beat Oklahoma deep, but
that's only if you give ours time to do it.
And I'm not sure he's gonna get that time against
his defense, because this is a defense that blitzes a lot.
They're great at getting pressure on the quarterback, sacking the quarterback.
This is a tough matchup for a line and I
think for a quarterback that are very much feeling their

(19:22):
way through the early part of this season. To me,
it just feels like a different ballgame than last year.
And everything you're saying about Oklahoma is valid for sure.
I don't think Oklahoma's gonna blink this time around. I
think the defense is outstanding. I actually think Michael Hawkins
will be fine because, like it's a different story for
him too. By all accounts, he's much more comfortable this

(19:43):
season than last, if only because he's had a little
bit more time to mature and be with the team.
I'm going Oklahoma out right here. I think it's low scoring.
I think it's physical. I think it's ugly. I think
that's the style of game that Brent Venables would prefer
twenty for twenty somewhere in that range.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
Give me Oklahoma, Okay, yeah, I man, he had six
and chain's yards per attempt against Kent State last week.
You can believe everything you want. I need to see
it from Michael Hawkins. We saw Michael Hawkins with a
good Oklahoma defense last year lose thirty four to three.
He's definitely gotten better. Everybody gets better, it seems with
the benefit of time's well we can hear our conversation later.

(20:28):
Everybody has the opportunity to get better as the age.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
We're also in a weird spot where like we're barely
in October and like we've maybe lost the plot on Like, Yeah,
Brent Vtables is an excellent coach and has this team
ready to Like we have what have we seen full
season wise from Brent Vnables ever to make you think
that he has like a firm handle on bringing Oklahoma
back to its expectation. Also, look at the schedule was

(20:56):
about to withstand now, but hey this week. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
To his credit, the team that we have seen on
the field so far through the first half of this
year has been light years better than a year than
a year ago, right, I mean, just to get to
this point, I think has been pretty significant. They've had
some big grades. So I'm I'm all in, I'm all okay.
At this point seven pm, EESPN, it is your Florida Gators.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Ooh mine on the road.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
At number five Texas A and M. A and M
is favored by seven points. I am going to use
your favorite F word place to describe this game. Fascinating. Okay,
this one is fascinating because consider the dynamics Florida knocks
off Texas a week ago in the swamp. Now a

(21:48):
little pep in their step now headed the crowd station right,
A and M fifth in the AP pole, fourth in
the more reputable over ball or top twelve pole, which
you can vote at on for bowlers dot Com every week.
And I'm off to their best start in about a decade.
So now the question coming into this one is was

(22:11):
what we saw a week ago a mirage on the
Florida side, because they played well, they looked much better. Definitely,
it seems that they found something on offense that next
gear that we have talked about and have wanted to
see from not just Florida, but many teams around college football.
Florida found it, presumably because of Dallas Wilson finally getting

(22:35):
out there and emerging very quickly partial legitimate wide receiver one.
You got him out there, Suddenly DJ Lagway looks better.
They gave Jaden Ball twenty seven carries, They stayed committed
to the run defensively, six sacks of Arch Banning like
it all worked. Everything worked. The question now for Billy

(22:56):
Napier for Florida, I'll put it to you, can you
do it again? Because that's where we're at. I don't
know if Florida beating Texas is going to buy a
whole lot of good will for Billy Napier. He's not
exactly in the good graces of the Florida standing right
Florida community right now right doesn't have great standing there,
So can they do it again? Here?

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Marcel Reid was very good against his Florida team last
season in the Swamp. If I remember correctly, I might
have been his first start, one of his first starts
early on. Here. Here's where I'm at with Florida right now,
clearly on the road this season thus far, they've been
atrocious with the game against LSU in the Swamp. In
the Swamp game against LSU in Death Valley with the
five picks, they score ten points something like that, score

(23:42):
seven against Miami. So if the worst of Florida on
the road is eight or nine points, and then the
best of Florida at home is summary at twenty eight
to thirty points something like that, like they had last
week against Texas, I'd put them scoring if they're improved
and if they're heading in the right direction, somewhere around

(24:02):
seventeen to twenty one points against Texas A and M.
Like I don't think they're going to be able to
overwhelm Texas A and M with any one facet of
their offense. I don't think they're going to suddenly be
able to vomit on A and M or dominate the ground,
especially because the offensive line has been pretty uneven in
LUMPY this year. I just think Texas A and M
has its act together more, can win in more ways.

(24:26):
And if you're saying both of these defense are at
the very least legitimately good, I don't see it as
being high scoring. So I wrote down twenty four to
twenty Texas A and M. They get enough on the ground.
They get enough in play action downfield, not a lot,
but to keep the Florida defense on its heels. Still good,
but on its heels a little bit more often than

(24:47):
vice versa. So twenty four to twenty A and M
wins but does not cover this game.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
I mean the A and M defense is really good, yeah,
especially at home. Of the confidence they're playing with on
that side of the ball. I love what we've seen
so far. To Marcel Reed and the offense, I mean,
Le'Veon Moss, Ruben Owens, they can run right at you,
Mario Craver, Casey Concepcion. These are guys that I've added

(25:14):
a whole new dynamic to the passing game. My big
curiosity coming into this one now is which of the
two quarterbacks is going to have more success with the
deep shots, or at least which offense could generate the
most chunk plays through the air. Like we've seen Florida
get cooked by some vertical shots so far this season.

(25:37):
Teams likewise are taking deep shots Against Texas A and M.
About fifteen percent of the dropbacks are passes that are
traveling twenty or more air yards, so teams are trying it.
I don't know if they're having a whole lot of success,
but to trying it, I think whoever has more success
on that front, whether it's the deep shot, the long
rainbow through the air, or a catch and run. But

(25:59):
the chunk plays through the passing game, to me, are
the key in this one. The other thing that I
would point out, especially since I think we're both kind
of the mind that this could be a close game. Yeah,
A and M is very good on special teams.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
That's true. Casey concepts you on a great return last week. Yes, yes, return.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
They are second in the conference, only behind South Carolina.
We've talked about South Carolina and their punt returns a
couple times now, but second in the conference in terms
of yards per punt return. I can feel people rolling
their eyes. Tie, you're grasping for straws that you're trying
to build your own case whatever.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
You're just a pretty face. I've heard typical, typical Tie response.
I've heard it all at this point. Trust me when
I say that this type of thing matters. It can
flip the field in a good way. It can create
a game breaking play, can set you up for an
easy three points. If that's what it takes watch that

(26:59):
ask afed this game as something that could flip it
in favor of Texas A and M.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
I think A and M wins. It's at home, it's
at night. Last week definitely showed me something on the
Florida side. I think this one is right on the number. Okay,
I'm not picking a team. In terms of the point spread.
I think it's thirty one to twenty four, so I
think it's right on that number. Oh, but I think

(27:27):
A and M wins.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
You think the Florida defense gives up thirty one points
to A and M. Okay, I think it's a big number,
but you know, the best of A and M's offense
is capable. For sure. Florida is an interesting like they're
not who they are on their worst day, and they're
not who they are on their best day. We'll see
if the Texas game was their best day. But I
think they'll be somewhere in between the rest of this season.
I don't think they're going to ever be as bad
as they were against LSU in terms of turning the

(27:51):
ball over. I don't think they're gonna be as good
as they were at home in that spot against a
reeling Texas team that you know they're gonna win some
twenty three to twenty, they're gonna lose some twenty three twenty,
and I don't see them coming out win with a
win here.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Thirty one to twenty four implies that there will be
chunk plays, that's true, and that we might see some
action on special teams as well. Okay, you're right, so
we'll see Also again, Also, look, we've got two quarterbacks
who at least recently have played pretty well. Recently totally

(28:23):
DJ Lagway means a week ago, Marcel recently in there
all year. But I don't know if we're confusing either
of these guys at this point as like pinpoint passers.
Blagway did it once when he got a receiver back.
Marcel Reid, that's the side of his game that we
have seen develop over the last you know, six weeks
of the season. But we could see some defensive playmaking

(28:46):
as well here That wouldn't surprise me at all.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
I totally agree if there's one specific matchup I'm looking
for in this game. Florida has been very good defensively
on third down, and Texas A and M has been
at best average and at times kind of atrocious on
third down. Quietly hasn't mattered in terms of the win
loss column, But if Florida is going to shift momentum
in this game, a lot of big third downs.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
Seven p thirty, NBC Number fifteen, Michigan on the road
at USC. The Trojans are a two and one half
point favorite. Dan, Let me ask you this please. Your
rubric is quarterback in defense, right.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
Yes, that's for making the playoff. That's for like winning
a major conference making a playoff. Whose playoff caliber? The
teams with the intersection of high quality quarterbacks and defense?

Speaker 1 (29:36):
In a game like this, though, which side do you
air on? When USC might have the better quarterback at
least for now, and Michigan has the better defense, Like,
how do you mentally split that difference when you're trying
to make a pick.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Yeah, well, Michigan has the better quarterback talent, but in
terms of here.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
And now, Jade Mayov is more of a finished product
right now?

Speaker 2 (29:59):
I agree? So how do I compare quarterbacks? How do
I do? What do you want me to compare?

Speaker 1 (30:06):
How do you split that difference? It's sort of right
down the middle of your rubric. One's got the better
quarterback right now. The other has the better defense right now.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
I think situationally is how you split the difference. Right
This game is not being played on the moon. This
game is you know, being played in Los Angeles.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
It's at night, right at night, seven thirty NBC.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
So it's Michigan three hour body clock change because Michigan
once again is in the Eastern time zone.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Man, we've been check me. We've been fing up these
time zones left and right.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Buddy, I've been screwing up time zones since before you
could walk. And you're like three years old er, two
years older than I am. So okay, I actually like
USC here, Okay why? And I'm not crazy about it.
So they'll be healthier on defense and maybe on offense
than they were against Illinois. They were down you know,

(30:54):
star slot corner. He's not really a safety this year.
Kamari Ramsey in love with this defensive front against the run. Nope,
should set off alarm bells when you're playing against this
Michigan ground game and Justice Haynes.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
Well, and that's that's what I was going to say, Like,
if nothing more, this is a really interesting proof of
concept for USC because they have not played a team
like Michigan yet this season. And I'm not saying they
can't stop it. I'm just saying we haven't seen them stop.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
It, nor have they succeeded against this type of team
during the Lincoln Riley era well, right period.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Right, And so alarm bells go off for me when
I see a matchup like this, because I say, well,
there's a level of physicality here on both sides of
the ball for Michigan that is going to present a challenge.
We have seen give USC trouble in the most recent past.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
I'm still going to USC here. I'm going to USC
here because I think it's a winnable spot because of
their own ability to score points, and I think they're
going to be able to score some points against this
Michigan defense. I don't think this is a perfect Michigan defense.
I don't love USC's offense if they're continually as beat
up as they've been along the offensive line, especially against

(32:04):
the edges of Michigan. But I think they can get
downfield a little bit. I think they're going to be
able to get off the field a little bit because
I don't know this Michigan offense can be good, but
I'm not crazy about who they've played defensively either. Like
Wisconsin is a pretty good defense, but Nebraska, like I

(32:25):
don't know, this offense is nowhere near a finished product.
And I also think mentally there might be something about Michigan.
Oh they just lost to Illinois. It's USC, it's the
West Coast. They never win these types of games where
I think they underestimate SC a little bit, and maybe
that's just be projecting. I think they are. I think

(32:45):
there is a little bit, a little bit of disrespect.
USC was one broken play away from beating this team
last year in Michigan. Had no quarterback play, of course,
but USC was able to handle it to the point
where they knocking on the door to win this game
in ann Arbor last season, and I think they're better
this year. We'll see. I think injuries are going to

(33:06):
play a huge role, but I think USC should be
able to run it some. I really do like USC's
running game. It's actually they have good.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
We've talked a lot about the passing game, but they're
running game has been good as well.

Speaker 2 (33:17):
I think they have the best receiver in this game,
and that's not a controversial statement. Though I love that
Donovan McCully was featured more and made more plays. Last week.
I have USC winning this game thirty one to twenty eight,
back and forth. The USC is able to close the
game for the first time in a while under Lincoln Riley.
A tight, close game. But I think the passing game

(33:41):
advantage is interesting here. I think the home spot is interesting.
I think the crowd will be in a frenzy. There's
a huge opponent coming to LA. I think USC gets
it done. I think they make enough big plays to
keep the Michigan defense on its.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
Heels, so on the Michigan side, just to close the loop.
On the offense. It's a very good rushing team. It's
a passing game that I think is quickly coming of
age with Bryce Underwood, but it's still not fully there's
getting there. It's fair to say, though that it also
cuts both ways. Right, If I want to talk in

(34:17):
good faith about USC not playing a team like Michigan
this year, Michigan has not seen an offense like this
this great either. Like Bill Connolly and his sp plus,
they grade USC as the top offense in the nation. Right,
And to your point, yeah, they've been outstanding on the
ground as well as through the air. Personally, I'm terrified

(34:40):
of what they might do to Notre Dame next week.
So I think this is a good challenge all around. Okay,
I just feel like I have seen this movie before,
and usually the team that can establish itself on the ground,
the team that can win in the trenches, that's the
one that wins. And so for me, Michigan is the
under Express think Express team of the year. We know

(35:03):
exactly what they are, sure exactly what they're gonna do.
I think they could become something a little bit more
as they open the passing game up. I think that's
really exciting. But at least in the here and now,
we know exactly what we're signing up for here with Michigan. Okay,
And I think the ground game some combination of Justice
Haynes with Bryce Underwood maybe on some option plays, I

(35:26):
think that gets the job done. And I think the
defense travels here. I've got them winning out right.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
So I disagree with you, But okay, how many points?
If USC is not quite as good as usual because
of the Michigan defense, but still, okay, how many points
do you need to beat that USC team?

Speaker 1 (35:45):
I've got it at twenty seven to twenty three Michigan, So.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
You think Michigan will hold See, I think you need
to score thirty points to beat USC.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
That's entirely possible.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
So I have a thirty one to twenty eight barely covering. Okay,
what is the number right now? I have it down
as two and a half, two and.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
A half, eighty two percent of the bets and ninety
five percent of the money on USC.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
I think is the move here?

Speaker 1 (36:08):
A lot of people are like, in the cut of
your jib, but I'm gonna go Michigan.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
Okay, I don't. I still don't like these you know,
the non Donovan mccullay receiving options in terms of their hands,
in terms of what they can offer an offense down
the field. I think you need to show what Luke
Altmeyer and Illinois were able to show to beat this
USC team. So yeah, I'm going sc.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Seven point thirty. ABC Number ten Georgia on the road
at Auburn. They call it the Deep South's oldest rivalry.
Georgia is a three and a half point road favorite.
Georgia rebounded nicely after the Alabama loss. They dominated Kentucky
last week Auburn is coming off a buye. Before that,

(36:50):
they had the close sixteen to ten loss to Texas
A and M back in Week five, so I'm surprise
you at all three and a half.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
A little bit. But then I once again, and I've
done this multiple times this season, because I think we're
going to disagree on this game. Once again, I think
it's a good Auburn defense. Game's at Auburn. They're a
home dog in a big emotional spot and with a
crazed crowd, Like you can't here's my problem with your
line of thinking, and this is why you're always wrong.

(37:21):
And that's okay, we love you anyway. Sure, I think
you make up your mind about a lot of teams
on like September twenty second, I think you do, okay,
and I think you forget how ridiculous this sport is.
That Auburn could beat Georgia and then lose to you know,
take your pick.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
I mean all you gotta do is log onto Twitter
for five seconds to remember how ridiculous the sport is.
So no, that's not lost to me. But okay, continue, continue,
please continue.

Speaker 2 (37:45):
So what I'm saying is Auburn could beat Georgia. And
lose to Kentucky, and nobody would bat an eye right
Kentucky's in a few weeks. It's not the next game.
But I'm just going to stick with my life philosophy
here and those all the boxes are checked to me. Now,
I don't love Auburn's pass defense all the time. They're
really good against the run.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
Are you gonna take Auburn out right?

Speaker 2 (38:08):
I am taking Auburn. Come on, they're my home dog
of the week. Are you serious? Yes?

Speaker 1 (38:15):
Wow, I don't even have where's my sound here? I
gotta find the sound. I was not prepared for them.
I agree thes home dog of the week.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
So Georgia does have ole miss not that they're looking
past a game Jord and her, but they have all
missed next week. Wow, I'm just telling you. I'm telling you,
I'm not man.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
You are out of your gord.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
I'm telling you. Auburn's not that good, but they're good
enough occasionally. Right. So, I don't love the offensive line.
I don't love George's defensive line right now. I think
they're much stronger at linebacker.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
But I just there is something at all I don't Buddy,
I'm telling you, I don't mean interrupt, Please continue.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
Especially in the SEC. Home dogs with good defense is
in a big, emotional, crazed spot, is a tough team
to go against. Auburn's going to be up for this game.
Auburn's going to win this game. You can doubt me.
I'm sure people listening are doubting me too. But you
know who dislikes Georgia more than anybody, Georgia fans. And

(39:28):
to me, right that gives me a little bit of pause.
That this team is good but shoots himself in the
foot too much. And you know, one game they're going
to look like it's a great play call from Mike Bobo,
like the game plan and the execution is great. In
the next game, you left scratching your head. I just
think you make up your mind too quickly during a season,
and I think there are ebbs and flows and peaks

(39:50):
and valleys. This is going to be a peak for Auburn.

Speaker 1 (39:53):
I think I'm just weaker when it comes to calling
you out when you make up your mind too quickly,
because there are plenty of those moments too. Totally true,
But okay, listen, my picks have been horrible. I will
take the criticism. Who are we I've been bad at this,
but not on this game. Not on this game. I

(40:15):
will give you this. This is a very interesting matchup,
if only because both of these defenses have been nails
against the run. Both are third nationally in success rate
allowed on the ground. Right, what does that mean? It
just means they're both really good against the run. Okay,
I really really like the middle of this Auburn defense.
Keldric Fauk up front atkins Wood, you're the two linebackers behind.

(40:39):
They're nasty against the run. I do like the Auburn defense.
The difference for me, though, Auburn needs to run to
win this game, and I don't think Georgia does. And
I realize it may not be George's default mode to
have to throw it to win, but they can if
they have to. And I think we have seen enough
out of Gunner Stockton these last couple of weeks to

(41:00):
trust that in a pin, Yeah, he can do that.
He can make some big throws. We saw it against Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
YEP.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
I just have no faith that Auburn is going to
be able to go out there and throw with Jackson Arnold,
and I think that is what Georgia is gonna require
them to do so. If George is able to keep
doing what they've been doing all season and bottle up
the run, I don't see a great path for Auburn here. Okay,

(41:26):
doesn't mean it won't be close. I think Auburn's very
good at getting in the close games. They're probably one
of the best teams in the nation at that. But
if Jackson Arnold has to throw at thirty times to win, nah.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
I'm not a Jackson ale guy. I'm not gonna come
here and stump for him.

Speaker 1 (41:42):
If they throw the ball thirty times with Jackson Arlo,
do you think they're gonna win.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Thirty times thirty times? This isn't terrible, but not great,
not ideal. No, if he's throwing the.

Speaker 1 (41:52):
Ball thirty times, they lose. Okay, I got it at
thirty one to twenty one Georgia.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
Okay, I'm planning my flag. I can't live chalk ty.
I can't live chalk a home dog with a good
defense in a rivalry spot, in a frenzied place.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
The line is definitely in your favor here, though. Yeah,
of course, the line is definitely in your favor. Two
thirds of the public bets are on Auburn. The ninety
two percent of the case is on Georgia.

Speaker 2 (42:21):
FYI, Okay, that's fine.

Speaker 1 (42:23):
Let's go to Little Big twelve after dark. If you're interested.
Dan always another one. We're gonna have to explain this
line to me. Okay, the bets, the money, it's all
in Utah. Utah has been relatively anonymous outside of that
Texas Tech game. Gave that one away late. It was

(42:43):
close for a while, but Tech pulled away. Otherwise, Utah
has pretty much smoked everybody else that they've played. They
are at home in this matchup against ASU. They are
a five and a half point favorite. I was not
in rest by Devin Dampier when I saw him against
Texas Tech.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
He was hurt.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
He's hurt and maybe maybe Mike sell me yeah and
maybe texta just that good, you know, totally true. We
need more data on that front.

Speaker 2 (43:11):
The fourth quarter was Texas Tech didn't look that great
in terms of penalties and shooting themselves in the foot
those first three quarters with Baron Morton.

Speaker 1 (43:18):
But yeah, but defensively they're pretty good.

Speaker 2 (43:20):
Definitely, at least.

Speaker 1 (43:23):
I think at this point in the season, we know
a lot more about Arizona State than we do to Utah.
Would you agree with that statement.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
Probably.

Speaker 1 (43:34):
I like ASU's defense a lot. I like that they're
a have a heavy defense, fourth in the nation with
nineteen sacks, eleventh in the nation with forty two tackles
for loss, So they're trying to force the issue. I'm
curious to see how Devin Dampier deals with that, because, again,
my impression after watching him against Tech was that he

(43:56):
looked like New Mexico's former quarterback. That may not be fair.
I know there's a whole injury thing, and look, you're
still kind of getting used to this as well, but
that to me was the big red flag when I
was going through this one. How I think ASU is
going to try and force the issue, and I'm not
sure how Utah is going to respond.

Speaker 2 (44:13):
Force what issue?

Speaker 1 (44:15):
Force the issue? With their defense, it is a playmaking
defense that is relying on havoc to try and turn
the game in their favor.

Speaker 2 (44:21):
Okay, I think this is a sustenance game. I think
this is sustaining right. This is Arizona State with inconsistent
results in sustaining drives, which has led to back and
forth games that they've come out of nicely, but fallen
behind in games. The Baylor game was crazy close, came
down to the end. The TCU game was crazy close,

(44:43):
came down to the end. Obviously, not great performances away
from home this season. In the lost in Mississippi State.
This game is at altitude. You know, I love my altitude.
There's a feet above sea level advantage in Salt Lake City.
Arizona State's not good on third downs. Utah's really really

(45:03):
good on third downs. Arizona States defense has been good.
They've made plays, but they haven't been incredible against the run.
Utah basically only wants to run the ball. I think
it's a bad matchup for ASU. I know Utah hasn't
had a ton of success in the Big Twelve thus far,
but I think they're gonna force a ton of passing downs.
And as much as I like Sam Levitt and Jordan Tyson,

(45:25):
I just think the numbers, the rhythm of the game
that Utah's I think going to be able to dictate.
I think it just favors the utes here. I think
Utah is just able to determine everything that happens. They're
just gonna be able to determine the rhythm of this game.
I think ASU is good but not great. So far,
they haven't been able to separate. So I'm going Utah here.

(45:47):
That's why I think the line is what it is.
I'm steering into that number that flummixes you.

Speaker 1 (45:52):
I've got it at twenty one nineteen Utah Utah wins,
Arizona State covers.

Speaker 2 (45:57):
I have that too, I have twenty four to twenty one.
I'm just I'm into when I say I'm into the number.
I understand the number. I just don't think Utah has
the kind of pop on offense needed to score more
than that. So this is another one of Yeah.

Speaker 1 (46:12):
I think if there were a team in this game
that ended up pulling away, it would be Arizona State.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
I don't know if on the road, well, no, I
guess Texas Tech did.

Speaker 1 (46:21):
But I'm saying after the fact, if we look back
and we find out that the final score in this
game was thirty four to fourteen, somebody, yeah, without seeing
which team was where, my assumption would be that Arizona
State would be the one that would run away because
I like where they're at at quarterback. I like where
they've been at now running the football with three League Brown,
who's been pretty good this year. Jordan Tyson has had

(46:42):
a good season as well. Like they've got the playmakers
that I think you can count a little bit more
on on offense. If I saw that score line, that's
what I would expect. But I also think Utah has
been built for these grinded out style games for almost
the entire tenure of Kyle Winningham.

Speaker 2 (46:58):
Is there, But is there an ASU game where you're
like they are a blowout kind of team from this season,
not for this season.

Speaker 1 (47:03):
No, no, no, not for this season. But I'm saying, with
what they've got on offense, I would assume if I
saw that score that would be Arizona State.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Oh see, I disagree, But that's okay.

Speaker 1 (47:14):
Let's do some quick mentions. Okay, is a big week
of games. A steely Saturday Colon do the dirty work
on Friday Night ESPN two South Florida the Bulls on
the road at the Mean Green.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
Woo.

Speaker 1 (47:30):
This is a banger. This is a bang. I see
one and a half points in favor of South Florida
in favor of North Texas. Let's just call it a
coin flip. Dan obviously you know why I'm gonna go.
I'm gonna go Byron Brown.

Speaker 2 (47:44):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
I like his ability to scramble. I think that's the
difference against North Texas. North Texas does not really play defense.
They haven't really played a quarterback like this either. I
know they beat Army, but Byron Brown needs a different cat.
So give me South Florida to win on the road.
But this is a very, very very big G six game.

Speaker 2 (48:02):
Can you finish this sentence? TI? I bet you can.
This is the true story of seven strangers picked to
live in a house, work together, and have their lives
taped to find out what happens when people stop being.

Speaker 1 (48:13):
Polite and start being mean and start being real. Yeah, okay, yeah.

Speaker 2 (48:21):
I think North Texas has had a really impressive season
thus far. I think their offense has been really good,
their defense mostly has been really good. The results have
been there. They're five to zero, they're coming off of
a bye. This is a huge spot when most of
the college football viewing audience is going to see the
mean Green for the first or maybe second time, they
get a South Florida team who has won some big

(48:42):
games this season. I just think it's a little bit
too real for the mean Green with South Florida coming in.
Also South Florida is are they also coming off of
a bye I believe so yah, South Florida coming off
of a bye I just you know what it is.
I think it's more to me about the South Florida defense,

(49:02):
I want to say, than it is about the offense.
I think South USF is going to generate some chunk plays,
but I think they're able. They're going to be able
to get off the field a little bit more than
some of what North Texas has seen thus far. So
I'm going bulls.

Speaker 1 (49:17):
Here on the road three thirty ESPN. Iowa State on
the road only a three point favorite at Colorado.

Speaker 2 (49:25):
Yeah give me Iowa.

Speaker 1 (49:27):
State, give me Colorado, uh, twenty seven to twenty one.
I think there is a good opportunity here for Iowa
State to grind this one out, put together a bunch
of drives that are like twelve plays and five minutes long.
I would say, among the handful of Colorado's deficiencies so

(49:47):
far this year, they cannot get off the field on
third downs. So totally, if you're a Buffs fan, get
ready for one of those annoying games where the Clones
are just running three yards and a cloud of dust.
They get at the third and shore, they get another
first down. They keep the drives going in perpetuity.

Speaker 2 (50:05):
Totally disagree.

Speaker 1 (50:06):
I love it. We disagree on almost everything today.

Speaker 2 (50:09):
I think Colorado has been quietly pretty good, even though
the record doesn't indicate it. Their games have featured a
ton of mistakes by everybody. Iowa State is starting your
two least athletic friends at cornerback right now. They're not
going to be able to defend the past this season,
all that well, their back end is shredded. I think

(50:31):
it's a great matchup for Colorado. I'm taking the Buffs here.
And you know, obviously a lot of energy and emotion
with Dion dealing with even more injury stuff and hopefully
he's healing up alright, dealing with blood clot issues, so
you know, obviously hope everything is pointing in the right
direction for Deon Sanders. So I'm taking Colorado here. I

(50:52):
think it is crazy to think that the mistakes will
continue at this pace. After last week, I think they're
gonna be a little bit more but and I think
they're gonna be able to win a relative shootout something
like thirty four to thirty.

Speaker 1 (51:05):
Also at three thirty, this one on Fox. It's TCU
on the road at k State TCUs a point and
a half road favorite. I have no idea what to
make of this game. I would not touch the point
spread in this game with ten foot pole. I understand
why it is where it is. I think I trust
TCU a lot more right now than I do k State,

(51:26):
even though k State, you know, definitely had a shot
at winning that Baylor game a week ago. Yeah, I
am gonna stick to my guns and go TCU, but
I am not touching this one. Like I said, with
a ten foot pole, I could see this one going
a million different directions.

Speaker 2 (51:41):
Yeah, game's gonna end at night. Obviously, this is three
thirty eastern. I'm gonna go Kansas State here as a
home dog. I think the way in which Kansas State
lost last week to Baylor was kind of an anomaly.
It's kind of a weird way to lose. It is
a letdown spot because that's, you know, a big emotional drain.
I just think Kansas State at home in this spot

(52:04):
against a somewhat vulnerable TCU defense. I don't know, you
sort of have to have faith a little bit in
Kansas State's ability to limit crazy mistakes, and they'll make
a crazy mistake or three. I just I don't know.
I think I don't think TCU is the kind of
team that can go on the road and win a
game like this often some I okay State.

Speaker 1 (52:23):
Seven forty five South Carolina on the road and Death
Valley at night SEC Network, LSU favored by eight and
one half points. I love LSU in this matchup, Dan, Okay,
give me the byue bangles.

Speaker 2 (52:37):
I like South Carolina. I do outright probably, no, no,
not outright. But there is something about South Carolina right
now coming off of a bye, and I think I
believe they both are I just think they can score
seventeen points and I don't think LSU can score twenty six.

(53:00):
So I think South Carolina's defense is wow, okay, not amazing.
I think they're okay, they're terrible. I'm third down on
both sides of the ball. I don't like this offensive
line for South Carolina at all. They haven't been able
to run two good quarterbacks. Big emotional spot. Is this
a look ahead spot for LSU at all? Now they

(53:22):
have Vandy next Vanya in Nashville. The Vandy's good, but
I don't think that's going to occupy all their attention
right now. I'm just not in on the LSU offense
being able to score twenty eight points against South Carolina,
So I'm taking the points.

Speaker 1 (53:35):
And finally, eight pm ESPN two, it is number eighteen BYU,
a point and a half favorite on the road against Arizona.
By the way, BYU is five and zero. According to
our friend Bill Connolly and his projections, BYU is projected
to be a one score affair or in a one

(53:55):
score affair in five of its next seven games.

Speaker 2 (54:00):
Yeah, and he's got.

Speaker 1 (54:01):
Him going eleven and one right now per projections. The
remaining schedule looks kind of tough to me, so I'm
not going to commit to that yet. But I do
like them here. I like BYU here minus the number.

Speaker 2 (54:12):
I think their numbers and their reputation are a little
bit inflated, given they've played maybe the worst team in
the Big Twelve in West Virginia, maybe the worst team
in the ACC in Stanford. I think BYU is good.
I think this is a tough spot. I think a
home dog Arizona team in the desert when they have
a feisty, not electric, but feisty defense, ability to run

(54:35):
the ball. I think it's a bad spot for BYU.
I think Arizona takes it.

Speaker 1 (54:39):
And we disagreed on almost everything. We read it like
one game all week. This is bad news for me.
This is very bad news for me. Now, look, this
could be an anomaly week for you. Let's do some
under the radar games quick, please, all right, so these
are games that I'm interested in. Could maybe see Ben
upset an underdog. Let's go through these rapid fire. Okay,

(55:02):
let's high new ESPN. Your Pit Panthers on the road
at the number twenty five Florida State Seminoles. Florida State
is favored by ten and a half points. Give me
Pitt plus the points.

Speaker 2 (55:15):
I love Pit plus the points as well. Here Now,
if this game were at night, if it scammer three thirty,
maybe I'd reconsider that's too many points for Florida State.
And at a certain point, I'm not saying you disregard
Week one, but you put it in its little place.
You put it in a partition. Week one week, you're
talking about a fruit true freshman right quarterback for pitt Yep,

(55:36):
it's a tough spot. There is a huge let down
moment for Florida State, and you do have to ask
if we only partially consider Alabama because it's Week one,
what is Florida State shown sinse against quality competition? And
that's an zero to two record in the ACC.

Speaker 1 (55:50):
I did not mean to interject with my lock of
the week, so now although I kind of did, cause
I am back in on the pit Panthers. We're back ba.

Speaker 2 (56:00):
What mean they demolished a likely bad Boston.

Speaker 1 (56:03):
College team, a likely very bad Boston College. We'll get
to that in a second. Also at noon, UCLA on
the road at Michigan State. Michigan State favored by eight
and one half points. Probably a decent time to fade
UCLA on the road.

Speaker 2 (56:15):
I like Michigan State. Here if Ucla, look we're talking
about hypotheticals. If UCLA competed but lost close late to
Penn State, this is a ten and a half eleven
and a half point fourteen and a half point spread
from Michigan State. I think UCLA is rightfully being rewarded
for their performance last week, and Michigan State being favored
by this kind of number this season doesn't fully make sense,

(56:36):
but UCLA lost Northwestern. They've shown themselves to be pretty
bad at times this year. I'm going sparty here.

Speaker 1 (56:43):
Three point thirty. We've got Nebraska on the road at Maryland.
Nebraska favored by a touchdown. It's about to be October
the eleventh. Yeah, Nebraska's about to play its first true
road game.

Speaker 2 (56:55):
I saw this.

Speaker 1 (56:56):
Have you not gone out for a true road game?
Of course? They played opening week at Arrowhead against Cincinnati.
I think they win. I think it's close. I think
it's something like thirty four thirty one. But as always
Dan fear the Turtle. I think Maryland keeps it close.

Speaker 2 (57:15):
Look, whatever Dylan Royola was or was not last season
on the road, and what this offense was on the
road does not mean that it's getting replicated this season.
But they were pretty atrocious on the road last year.
And Dan doesn't forget not on Steele's Saturday Colon do
the dirty work. I think Maryland does enough dirty work.
Nebraska is somehow, some way able to pull it out.

(57:36):
But I think it's close. I still think the Maryland
defense is legit, if not excellent, but they're legit and
so situationally, I'm going home dog here with Maryland three thirty.

Speaker 1 (57:46):
Air Force on the road at UNLV. I bring this
up because you mentioned this the other day. Yeah, UNLV
is five and zero. They got a big one next
week on the road at Boise, but the rest of
the schedule is very manageable, so do not sleep on UNLV.
They are a six point home favorite against air Force.
I am taking air Force plus the points. Dan, I

(58:07):
think prime look ahead spot here for UNLV.

Speaker 2 (58:11):
Yeah, air Force is also one in four, and I
don't think they have an FBS win in this moment
right correct. Air Force's past defense is likely the worst
in the country, and UNLV can throw the ball and
Dan Mullen calls a good game. They're good on third downs.
I actually am worried that this line is too low,

(58:32):
but I can't find a reason to take air air
Force has been atrocious this year. I'm going UNLV Lock of.

Speaker 1 (58:37):
The week, Lock of the week.

Speaker 2 (58:38):
I'm going the other.

Speaker 3 (58:39):
Way, look of the week.

Speaker 1 (58:44):
Love it. Seven point thirty on Fox Kansas on the
road at Texas Tech. Texas Tech favored by about two scores. Yeah,
give me Tech. I want Tech.

Speaker 2 (58:52):
Who's the best thrower that Texas Tech has faced this season,
the best thrower, the best person to throw the ball
downfield successfully with some regularity, not a ton. Texas Tech
has played against Oregon State, Kent State, Utah, Houston, and
Arkansas Pine Bluff. I believe right, So Devin dan Pierre

(59:17):
likely not, Connor Wigmans, the young Chris likely not. Milinke
Murphy has been awful, and the Oregon State offense has
been awful this season. This is all a way of
saying Jalen Daniels and Kansas are offering up something that
Texas Tech has not been able to prove itself against
this year in terms of pass defense. So I think Kansas,
just with that, is going to be able to keep

(59:39):
it closer because they're going to challenge Texas tack in
a way that they haven't been this season. So I
think Texas Tech wins this game. I think the number
is too.

Speaker 1 (59:45):
High and last, but not least seven thirty ACC Network
Clempson on the road at Boston College. Boston College is
a fourteen point home dog. Gave me damn points. Gave
me the points? Really, yeah, give me the points at night.

Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
I don't know, man, I think Clemson is an average
ACC team and that's plenty to lay the lumber against
Boston College.

Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
Wow, so we have like universal disagreement on this episode.

Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
We have universal disagreement. Okay, how many points did Boston
College give up to Michigan State?

Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
Forty two? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:00:20):
Michigan State on offense is it feels very like at
best average maybe above average forty two. So I know
Clemson's been disappointing and Clemson has occupied that average ACC space.
I don't know. I think Clemson was this game after
what I saw from them last week. Sure, forty to fourteen?

Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Right in sliverbo at gmail dot com. Let us know
your thoughts on these games and more. Don't forget to
go on out to forbowlers dot com and get in
on run the board, play for that five hundred dollars
piece a gift card. It can't believe I'm saying that
out loud. Okay, I just need to acknowledge something.

Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
Quick, please.

Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
The ball hood's in a bit of a curious situation
right now. Uh oh it is it is. Let me
zoom out for one second. Okay, I'm ready. We asked
the people to cancel their plans two weeks ago, because
Week five was crazy and then last week ended up
being crazy as well. So even if you cashed in
on the window that I gave you the opportunity window

(01:01:22):
to go out and be amongst the people, might have
been distracted. You might have been checking your phone, not
as person as you need to be. Right and now
we got week seven, which is also pretty meaty, steely as.

Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
It were, steely Saturday, call and do the dirty work right.

Speaker 1 (01:01:37):
We Gate looks good. We Gate looks good, looks really good,
and so like, if you're at home listening to this
right now, if you've got real world obligations, you got
to be thinking, like, what am I supposed to do?

(01:01:59):
What I am suggesting here may be a bit controversial,
but I want you to hear me out. Okay, okay,
there are really good games in every time slot this week.
I think the afternoon games could end up being good
in name only. I think there's a chance we get
a bunch of blowouts, maybe a close red River game.
But if you're on Eastern Time, if you're on Central Time,

(01:02:21):
that's where most of our audience is typically located. My
suggestion is a do an early dinner. The weather looks
nice across the Eastern Seaboard, across most of the country,
great time of year. I'm a sucker for a spout
with a nice patio. Maybe you got one of those,
So I say, early dinner, find a patio, hopefully, enjoy

(01:02:44):
some cooler temperatures, grab a drink or two, set the mood,
set up a nice night on the couch. Oh oh
for a little todd Black Legend, Chill.

Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
Black legs and chill. Does anybody else's name last name
rhyme with flicks? I better than black Ledge? Did you
look this up?

Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
No? What? Eagle and chill didn't really work for me.
Black Legend Chill, though, has a nice little ring to it.

Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
By the way, sidebar. And I'll say this artfully because
I know we're probably listened to in Chrysler Pacifica's across
this great land. Which announcer has been the soundtrack to
passionate evenings the most?

Speaker 1 (01:03:31):
I mean it might be Gush Johnson.

Speaker 2 (01:03:33):
No, well he's early, he's at noon.

Speaker 1 (01:03:35):
I mean you could you can DVR game.

Speaker 2 (01:03:36):
I know you can do afternoon to lights here, Ty,
I can explain to you that the details after Yeah,
but I think typically you're talking about late night Saturday
night and may he rest in peace? Is it Robert
Kakawala Hawaii? I think I pronounced that right. I apologize
if I messed that up. He's a legend. I don't know.
I'm trying to think who does, like, who did all

(01:03:57):
of those PAC twelve after dark games?

Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
Who is Guy Haberman? Who was doing all those like
Wazoo col games? And that's probably May Jones is.

Speaker 1 (01:04:08):
Doing late night games? Rod Gilmore? Is it Rod Gilmour?

Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
Throwback? Steve phisioc Petros Papadacus.

Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
Petro, No, definitely not Petro's. That's a little well.

Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
I'm just saying happens to be on in the room
while it's happening. Who has been the inadvertent commentator and
voice to a many assaultry evening.

Speaker 1 (01:04:28):
Maybe a little aniche Shroff wild Card.

Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
It just feels like afternoon. It just feels like the
he's not in the vicinity enough. Yeah, I think it
has to be somebody that was doing those later night
games PAC twelve after dark, Yogi Roth, Sure, Yogi?

Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
You could you could text Yogi get his thoughts on it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
Yeah, but who is who is that late night voice?
I'm Blackburn I'm doing Late Night Mountain West.

Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
I'm saying it's Black Legend Chill in week seven. All right,
fair enough, With all that being said, a special treat
for the verballer hood in place of our normal quad
Father segment. Oh, we have a celebrity guest picker, do
we not?

Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
We do? Absolutely we do.

Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
It has been fourteen years since we last had this
gentleman on the podcast with us. He is the soundtrack
of your Saturday night college football viewing experience. Chris Fowler,
Welcome back to the Solid Verbal.

Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
How are you sorry about the fourteen year gap. I've
been busy, but that's a long time.

Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
No.

Speaker 3 (01:05:36):
Great to be with you guys. I'm a consumer of
the pods. I appreciate what you guys do. Happy to join,
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:05:42):
I have to admit I did see a recent Instagram
post from you where you were advertising tongue in cheek
the CF logo on a hat and I bit for
a while. You said you put it on hats on polos.
Once he said you put it on pajamas. That was
when I started to like, I need to look into

(01:06:03):
this a little bit more. But you had me for
a hot second.

Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
Yeah, herbs pajamas. I think I almost added the line
so you can, you know, sleep with the logo, but
I pulled back there. You know, you're a little bit
gullible to get that far into When I said that
all proceeds go to the Hedge Fund. It has an
excellent return for most people at that point. If they
didn't get it, then I pity them.

Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
But yeah, I just thought maybe with your proximity to tennis,
because everybody in tennis is like their own logo, I
thought maybe this had rubbed off on you and you
decided to take it in that direction.

Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
You still see RF logos, the Federal logos everywhere in tennis,
even though he's been retired for a few years. So
I hope to have that kind of longevity with the
Chucks Fish. Do you know the restaurant. There's a bunch
of Chucks Fish and southern towns and they gave me
the merchant. I've done it twice now this is the
second year I've pulled the prank and still get a
few people love it.

Speaker 1 (01:06:52):
So what's been the early highlight for you thus far?
I mean we're not quite halfway into the college football season.
But of course, in your role you have an opportunity
to call some of the biggest games every week. Is
there a highlight that comes to mind? Is there something
about this season that feels different or the same versus
previous seasons that you've been on the call?

Speaker 3 (01:07:13):
Well, I mean, the un predictability has been fun. I mean,
if you told me we're gonna sit here early October
and that the highest ranked teams in the SEC, the
conference where I live most of the time, the three
highest rank would not include Georgia, Texas, Alabama, LSU. I mean,
I didn't think a m Oklahoma and Ole Miss would

(01:07:33):
be that in that position. It shows the depth of
the league, but it also shows you that pre season
ideas about who's good or who's not good have been wrong.
I mean, I'm covering the Red River game, and you know,
Texas has been a massive disappointment trying to get to
the bottom of that. But two losses already creates real
urgency early October on their end of things. But which

(01:07:55):
I enjoy, I mean UCLA stunning Penn State. That was
one of my favorite moments, the moment of the season.
Jerry Neuheisel, blonde locks, flowing, boyish smile, tight ends coach
turned to play caller. Mesmerizes the mighty Penn State defense.
They score six such downs. He gets carry off the
field as new offensive coordinator. And I known Jerry a

(01:08:19):
long time. I knew Rick forever, and you know socially
Emn and so just have that moment, that unexpected moment.
It's the beauty of the sports. While we love that,
I mean, no one saw that coming, and there'll be
other things we don't see coming. They have it almost
every week.

Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
So it's interesting you bring that up. And for so
long you called games on the West Coast, you called
games in the Midwest. Obviously you have a connection to
State college growing up. Has it hit you that you're
doing less, if not none of those games in that
specific way that like, obviously these are things are out
of your control, but like, is that different in the
back of your mind?

Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
Has it hit me? Yeah? Me, hit me with a sledgehammer.
I mean, I love being in the SEC. It's the
deepest conference. The excitement of the games just jumps off
the screen in prime time. Don't get me wrong, We've
had really good matchups. But I do miss going out West.
I miss going to ots in the Husky stadium, the coliseum,
the white out, the Horseshoe, the Big House. I mean,
you know you I'm still engaged with that conference, but

(01:09:19):
it's not as easy. And you know, you know, game
Day for a long time, for twenty five years, we
were agnostic. We could just go wherever the biggest game
was and it was kind of fun and you get
a better sense of the sport nationally. We hit him
in the playoff. We saw the Buckeyes four times in
the playoff. We got to Columbus, and I imagine we'll
do something like that again this year, going to places

(01:09:40):
we don't get to go to the regular season. But yeah,
I missed the national scope of it for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:09:45):
Okay, And one of the things, I mean, you just
bring up travel and going out west, and we have
a couple of guest picker options for you. Obviously you're
no longer the host of college Game Day, but I'm
just always curious about things involved with your job, involved
in the things that you take in. So I want
you to pick a couple things before we talk dose
ekis and get you out of here, if that's cool

(01:10:06):
with you, of course. Okay, my first item here, just
because you're on the road, a ton middle seat coach
with a sixty percent luggage arrival rate. That's a tough
one to pick, or flying private with the most toxic
of kirkharb Streets mentions.

Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
I would never choose a back he is, so be.

Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
Easily, be easily Okay. Next item. Here we go calling
a game in which the home team wins on a
big play or the road team shocks a stun stadium
and removes the oxygen.

Speaker 3 (01:10:46):
Both are exciting. Yeah, we expect to most players, they
get more joy. I was silencing a road crowd than
being part of a field rush at home. And that's
maybe the kind of red ass contrarian that a lot
of players carry with them. I mean I love a
home crowd. I mean I got into this business because
the joy of the crowd collectively was what was. It
attracted me to the radio and the TV when I

(01:11:07):
was ten years old. So if I'm being honest, there's
nothing better than you know, eighty ninety thousand people expressing
joy at the same time for the same reason.

Speaker 1 (01:11:16):
Nailing an impossible name and getting a note of thank you,
perhaps from somebody from the family, or nailing a chaotic
call with all the right details, all the duance one
shotting an incredible call.

Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
He is hypothetical. I've never got to thank you from
anybody for killing oh, but.

Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
That would be such a good feeling.

Speaker 3 (01:11:36):
They assume you're going to do it. You do get
messages when you butcher the name at this right football preps,
you know, for tennis and vice versa. Casenta's names are
really really hard. Now, I'd rather nail the call, I mean,
and it's not just about screaming and yelling. It's sort
of like if you can document it beautifully, and people
tend to remember the calls where you lose your mind

(01:11:59):
and you're yell it, you know, because something has happened
that's earth shaking or season changing. I like to be
technically clean. You never get a thousand grade for a game.
But yeah, it all goes together. I mean, you know,
it's funny. Fans really like you when you have the
good fortune of documenting a big moment for their team

(01:12:21):
because they associated positively with the greatest memories that they
have as fans of that team, whether it's been recent
years like Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, things like that, and
they don't like you if you time you met gut punching,
you know, soul crushing moments for their team. So it
goes with the territory.

Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
I know you've got a lot of interaction at least
on some level with Kirk Curve streets pop. Are you
more of a belly rubbed guy or you go in
ear scretches.

Speaker 3 (01:12:50):
This pup is like eighty pounds. So Peter is a
big boy. He's got a giant blockhead. I had three
Golden Retrievers when I was younger. We've always had them,
so have a sawt spider as like most of the
world does for Golden Retrievers. I also see him for
what he is, a dog and not a mythical, mystical
beast that has to be like photographed. I mean, it's

(01:13:10):
just Peter and he's around all the time, and I
love him. Yeah, I think a good belly scratches.

Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
Nice calling a snow game or a monsoon game.

Speaker 3 (01:13:19):
Most snow game easily monsoons the water can get in
the booth, so it's just it's just tough on the player.
You've had a snow globe game. I think it was
the babble for Paul Bunyan's acts a Minnesota Wisconsin game
one time was really.

Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
Fun calling a game completely wiped out and exhausted or
taking that risk tie into dose ekis taking that risk
and filling up a coffee mug twenty minutes before kickoff.

Speaker 3 (01:13:44):
I would never allow myself to that, not be fully caffeinated,
fully lions maimed. If you know what that is, you
can go sa all those kind of brain brain alignment things.
I believe in those supplements. I believe heavily. Cassie, you
step in there not mentally prepared. You know, we're exhausted,

(01:14:05):
but you got to find ways to overcome that. Adrenaline
is a great way to overcome it too, just being present,
realizing what you get to do where you are and
how much fun it is. As exhausting as the hours
can be to get to there, the four hours in
the booth, you don't have time for that.

Speaker 2 (01:14:20):
So how close I mean, we've seen, we've seen situations
in other booths. How close a call have you had
when perhaps you were too hydrated, or had too much coffee,
or the body was just not responding the way you
would have liked to. How close a call have you
had over the course of your very long career.

Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
I think I know what you're referring to. You know,
it's it's just one of those things you learn over
time with wisdom and experience, how to regulate that. How
never do you pitch? And so I never peed my
pants in the booth. That's what you're asking.

Speaker 2 (01:14:52):
No, that's what I'm asking. So we had Jenny Dell
on from CBS before the season started, and she said,
Brad Nessler, former ESPN colleague, never or eats anything over
the course of a day before kickoff, even if it's
a night game.

Speaker 3 (01:15:06):
That's a bit a stream. Yeah, I have no problem
with bodily functions after normal eating and drinking all day.
So thankfully I love NAS. That was way too much information.
But no, that's that's funny.

Speaker 2 (01:15:20):
No, I love to hear it because to me, it's
it's definitely a risk. I've heard this from people and
it ties in perfectly. You are here with dose ekis
and the going for dose, which I guess takes out
a whole new meeting based on my previous question even there,
But to talk about the campaign, talk about the risk.

(01:15:41):
Are you yourself risk averse and have grown into it?

Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
So not risk averse? No, I think the dose ekis campaign.
Going for dos is natural client because two point conversions
are fun conversions of college football. What do you think
the success rate is? Do you know? I mean I
looked it up because I wanted to be aware of it.
What the success and for two point tries in college football?

Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
It's about fifty Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:16:03):
That's good, just under fifty percent. I don't have data
for this year yet, but so that makes it fun.
It's three yards away. Going for dose often decides a game.
We go to these overtime games. I'm a little bit
mixed feelings about the collegeable version of the penalty shootout
where you get to triple overtime and it becomes a
series of going for dose. I mean, it's exciting because

(01:16:24):
any play can end the game, but it's a little
bit like a penalty kick. I am a huge soccer fan,
and I don't like when massive games go to penalties.
But you know, in college football, it's also the analytics
come into play. Teams are going for dose in the
middle of the game in situations where it's not easy
to understand why you'd want to do that, why the
extra point makes a difference. So it becomes an analyalytical point.

(01:16:47):
But it's a great campaign. They'll say he's done a
lot for college football. I've been involve with him for
a long time and I enjoyed the experience thorough.

Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
Give me your number one food to eat with a
dose echis what pairs well if you dose Eki Somalier?
What is? What is the move here for a cold
frosty mug?

Speaker 3 (01:17:06):
What doesn't pair well?

Speaker 1 (01:17:08):
Good answer, company.

Speaker 3 (01:17:11):
Man, I mean, you know, obviously the obvious answer is
nice comfort food like Mexican food and nice burrito. I mean,
that's that's the that's the obvious answer.

Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
Chris Fowler again, you can catch his voice every Saturday night,
or I guess every Saturday. I know this week will
be calling the Red River rivalry. I know you can't
pick the game, but what is your biggest point of curiosity?
Now this is a pretty big matchup. Obviously there are
competing storylines on both sides. But heading into this week,

(01:17:41):
what what is it that Chris Fowler will be most
interested in watching out there?

Speaker 3 (01:17:45):
We've seen Oklahoma got his sense of their defense. They
played like two real games, and I'm not even sure
the real games were against great offenses. So statistically they're phenomenal.
I want to see that against Texas, and then the
number one theme of the game is what's up with Texas?
Not arch Manning. His play has been if he's ever
going to match the hype or reach those those levels

(01:18:05):
of people expected if every time he misses a deep shot,
oh my god, Well, you know it's going to happen
in college football. But what's up the offensive line? You've
always underestimated how hard it is to put together an
O line. Obviously, they've got a couple guys up that
offensive line that are starting in the NFL, so assembling
the new guys has been really challenging. Six sacks in
this swamp is unacceptable. Lack of a running game is

(01:18:27):
just mystifying to me. So what's up with that front?
Defensively I think is still pretty good, but they also
crumbled in that area against an offense that couldn't make
a first down against Miami in the Gators, So there's
a lot of issues there. Looking forward to getting to Dallas,
talking to Sarking the players and kind of seeing what's
up with them, and that is because they can't lose
this game and get and get to where they want

(01:18:48):
to go. So it's must win from here on out,
beginning on Saturday for the long runs.

Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
I've got. By the way, Ty, I've got one more question.
We have Chris Pallor, the Voice of Tennis as well,
on the line. All Right, you can pick somebody who's
not named Yonic center Carlos aukrezt win a major in
the next year, in the next twelve months. Who's the pick?
That's good.

Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
That's a good question. I mean, everybody's hoping it's Ben
Sheldon if you're an American, but you know, it may be,
it may be an outlier. Is that Jaffon Sek at
the arros On clay and he's not ready on other surfaces,
But the Brazilian teenager, it's the ball huge. I mean,
he's still got work to do. And but that's that's
what we're doing. We're grasping. You're projecting, because I don't

(01:19:27):
think it's I don't think it's spare Ever Medvedev. I
don't think it's a guy that's that's well. Medved As
has succeeded in Zverara, has been really close. But I
think it's going to be someone from that that younger group,
you know, is it. Yakav Mensik, you know, is a
guy like that and most of your non tennis reor.

Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
What did he just say, yeah one Miami, right.

Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
Yeah, But he's yeah exactly, and he's got the game
to win on a hard coore. So I hope the
party is joined. I love these two guys at the
top of the men's game. I love they go back
and forth, they push each other. Alcarez reacts to the
Womblin loss by different tactics, and now Sinner has to
react to what Carlos did at the US Open, and
that's fascinating to see. And I suspect they'll be in

(01:20:10):
Australia pushing each other again. But for the good of
the game, you can't have a predictable final at every major.
As good as Chrissi and Martina were, as great as
they were for wins tennis in that era, you wanted
others to sort of muscle in and be on the
biggest stages too. That's that's what that's what the men's
game frankly needs, is someone else to join the or

(01:20:32):
multiple guys. Jack Draper, if he can stay healthy, the
big lefty server, you know, that would be great. But
those guys have set such a high bar. I think
there are any in the heads of their competitors who
are freaking out that they have to do is kind
of stay with those guys, So it's a mental game
right now for everybody else.

Speaker 1 (01:20:51):
I think wonderful. Again. His name is Chris Fowler. You
can catch him every Saturday calling the biggest games of
the week for ESP and ABC. Chris, we will have
to bring you on at some point in the very
near future. We cannot allow another fourteen year span before
we bring you on in Talk Talk shop here.

Speaker 3 (01:21:10):
Let's see it later this season. Love to join.

Speaker 1 (01:21:13):
Awesome. Thank you again, Chris Fawler. Enjoy the rest of
the year. We'll talk soon.

Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
Thanks guys.

Speaker 1 (01:21:18):
All Right, Dan, there you go a little bit of
a treat. Chris Fowler. We appreciate his time. We will
definitely need to bring him back at some point in
the very near future.

Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
Okay, I mean no brainer, Absolutely, Chris Fowler.

Speaker 1 (01:21:29):
Great to have him on. Great to get his thoughts.

Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
The best I came up with, by the way, is
Skip Hicks and Chill old UCLA running back.

Speaker 1 (01:21:37):
You've been thinking about this the whole time we've been
on the entire dollar. Yes, well that does it look big.
Thanks to Chris for stopping on by giving us so
much of his time. He's a busy gentleman. We appreciate
the verballer hood bearing with us here. A little bit
of a longer episode than usual, but we had a
lot to get through. Frankly, too much to get through.
We still couldn't get through all of it. Seven figures

(01:22:01):
to be one of our favorites. Yet. Please do stop
on by Saturday Night Midnight YouTube channel if you want
to get the live reaction, hit follow, hit subscribe there
as well, and of course for Ballers dot com is
where you can go if you want to get in
on the action and play for that five hundred dollars
gift card via our run the board challenge. Dan great show,

(01:22:23):
had a.

Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
Great show, by the way, couple addendums here. Okay, just
I'm peeking through curtains here. This is not even like
under the radar. This, I'm just being like the sicko
peeking through curtains. Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech just
needs to take care of business here? Are they the
kind of program that can against Virginia Tech? This, unfortunately
was going to be our what's it called game? This

(01:22:43):
was going to be our brentertainment matchup.

Speaker 1 (01:22:45):
This is supposed to be the entertainment.

Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
Yeah, we lost with the end of the the Brent
Key era. I mean it still could be era.

Speaker 1 (01:22:54):
Excuse me, Yeah, it's just going to be one sided
in favor of Brent Key.

Speaker 2 (01:22:57):
Yes, this is on one signed b entertainment. Then also
UCF Cincinnati. Oh, Cincinnati's is just really fun and UCF
might be pretty good. We'll see. Didn't love the lost
to Kansas State. ODU very quiet, sh reial good this year?
Oh do you played well against Indiana and have won
everything since. Take care of business against the down Marshall team.

(01:23:19):
I think they should. Navy's been quietly very good this year. Offensively,
they get a Temple team who just upset UTSA in Philly.
Temple's got some juice. Iowa Wisconsin feels like the first
year in a long time where this is like is
completely irrelevant, but iways got a chance here to build.
I guess New Mexico Boise State. You mentioned the look

(01:23:40):
ahead spot for UNLV with Boise State. New Mexico beat UCLA.
Jason Eck coming back to the State of Idaho. I
think it's too many points. I like the lobos. Okay.
Also drop that big stanky, creamy smothering drum and fighting.

Speaker 1 (01:24:03):
Did you say creamy, by the way, I did say creamy. Oh,
let's go to Lawrence A. Weens Stadium in New York,
New York.

Speaker 2 (01:24:12):
Is that real?

Speaker 1 (01:24:14):
Yeah? I wrote it down.

Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
Okay. So you put down fake stuff on our document
all the time.

Speaker 1 (01:24:18):
Well that's to try and throw you off, not throw
me off, I know.

Speaker 2 (01:24:21):
But like you put down in just as like you
put down QBC, Bravo, as Network's Air and games.

Speaker 1 (01:24:26):
I see you, Cartoon Network, I throw in there. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:24:29):
Yeah. Spice channel, by the way, the what channel? The
Spice channel? You've put that in a few times.

Speaker 1 (01:24:34):
I have put Spice channel in there. Is that still
a thing?

Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
I have no clue.

Speaker 1 (01:24:39):
Twelve o'clock, Hi noon, Lehigh six and Ohero on the
road at Columbia one and two. Oh give me him,
Mountainhawk's Baby.

Speaker 2 (01:24:47):
Uptown, New York City. I'm going to engineers as well.
They're rolling through.

Speaker 1 (01:24:50):
Twelve thirty Fisher Stadium, Eastern Pennsylvania, Beautiful Eastern Pennsylvania, Bucknell,
the Bison four and two, Lafayette, the let four and
two gotta go, Yetti's right, I'm one.

Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
Hundred percent going yeties putting down a couple pieces on him, sure,
And last, but not least units units Do people put
down units?

Speaker 1 (01:25:11):
Units? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
Units? Excuse me, I don't know what I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (01:25:14):
And last but not least one PM Andy Kerr Stadium
in beautiful Hamilton, New York. You ever been to Hamilton,
New York.

Speaker 2 (01:25:21):
I'm sure it's idyllic this time of year, beautiful, the foliage,
Oh yeah, precious sweater weather.

Speaker 1 (01:25:28):
Richmond, three and three on the road at Colgate two
and three. Dan, spiders, spiders crawling all over, Give me

of this episode, so I'm assuming that means you're in

(01:26:08):
better health than you've been.

Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
Yeah, a couple of snorts, I would say we're in,
but no coughs, No, I was okay.

Speaker 1 (01:26:14):
We are growing as a show.

Speaker 2 (01:26:17):
