Speaker 1 (00:07):
One of the top storylines that is unfolding with the
Minnesota Vikings is their alleged interest in signing free agent
quarterback Daniel Jones to be the backup quarterback on the
Minnesota Vikings. Tom Pelissaro is reporting that Daniel Jones will
(00:30):
make his decision on Tuesday, which is today. And there
is another insider on Twitter known as crack Rock who
actually has decentnology, is an unknown NFL owner insider from
the golf courses of Palm Beach, Florida. He is sharing
(00:53):
that the forty nine Ers and the Vikings are working
on deals for Danny don times and apparently it is close.
So the Minnesota Vikings are in competition with the forty
nine Ers to sign Daniel Jones. I'll sign on the
practice squad and then you know, America's way up to
(01:14):
the active roster, which allows flexibility. From Danny Jones's perspective,
It's gonna be very interesting because Kevin O'Connell was asked
yesterday by Kevin Seaffert from ESPN about Daniel Jones, and
this is what Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell had
(01:39):
to say. He said, I really can't get into it
too much about any short term or long term. I
can just say that I've been a big fan of
Daniels for a long time, and I hope wherever his
next step takes him, it's a good opportunity for him. Okay,
you read underneath the tea leaves a little bit, and
(02:03):
what you are hearing seeing from Kevin O'Connell is that
he didn't squash the idea of the Minnesota Vikings being
interested in Daniel Jones. He called himself a big fan
of Daniel Jones for a long time. And you look
at what Daniel Jones has done in his career so far,
(02:26):
and his situation has just been awful. Looking at the
Giant situation his last few years. They haven't given him
really hardly any receiver help. They've drafted Malik Neighbors last
year this past draft, but besides that, they've left him
and hung them out to dry. His best season in
(02:49):
the NFL statistically, was his rookie season. His rookie season,
he put up twenty four touchdowns and twelve interceptions. His
next best season was two thousand, twenty two, the year
he won a playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings fifteen touchdowns,
five interceptions, got himself a big contract after that. Good
(03:10):
for him, and then twenty twenty three only played in
six games, two touchdowns, six picks, and so far this
season in ten games, he has eight touchdowns, seven interceptions.
But what stands out to me about Daniel Jones is
his completion percentage. His completion percentage for his career is
(03:33):
averaged sixty four point one. This year, it's sixty eight
point three. Last year it was sixty seven point five.
Twenty twenty two sixty seven point two. Daniel Jones, for
the most part, is an accurate quarterback, but his situation
is just straight up garbage. And I read you Kevin
(03:56):
O'Connell's comments, and as long as you two, who doesn't
trigger this for being copyright, you'll be able to see
it right now.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
The inclination to look far ahead at that position or
been a short term for death at that in this
at this point, yeah, I'm not gonna really get into
that today, but I will say tons of respect for
Daniel Jones as a player and a person. Got to
know him through the draft process years ago, and you know,
(04:29):
I'm sure now that he's you know, a free agent
and there's probably a ton of league wide interest in him.
You know, Daniel's gonna make the decision that's that's best
for him and his career moving forward, and I'm sure
he's working through that process right now. But I really
can't get into too much about, you know, any short
term or long term. I can just say, you know,
(04:51):
been a fan of Daniels for a long time and hope, uh,
you know, wherever his next stop takes him, it's a
it's a good opportunity for him. I mean, is there
an interest or not? Or really not going to get
into that at this time.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
To just see a little side smirk by Kevin O'Connell.
He's interested. The Minnesota Vikings organization is interested, and they
should be interested in Daniel Jones. They want them. It's
an easy question to answer, would you rather have Nick
Mullins as the backup quarterback in case Sam Darnold is
injured for one to two weeks or would you rather
(05:28):
have Daniel Jones, who has been more proven than Nick Mullins.
Of course you would want Daniel Jones, especially at a
veteran minimum contract, which is what he is going to
sign for. So it makes one hundred per cent. From
the Minnesota Vikings perspective, both sides should come together and
(05:51):
make a deal. The question is from Daniel Jones's perspective
because the San Francisco forty nine Ers situation, If I'm
Daniel Jones, that looks pretty party because one party's out
and who knows for how long he missed the game
against Green Bay. You've got Christian McCaffrey, you've got Deebo Samuel,
(06:13):
you've got Kyle Shanahan, you've got George Kittle, You've got
a good defense, and the San Francisco forty nine Ers
just took mister irrelevant and made him a legitimate quarterback
in the NFL. If I'm Daniel Jones, it is a
toss up, and I might be even favoring the forty
nine ers situation because he's got a good chance to
(06:36):
start pretty soon. If rock Purty goes down with an injury,
and the Viking situation looks good too, it's one A,
one B because you look at what Kevin O'Connell did
with Sam Donald. But the problem is with Sam Donald,
if he doesn't get hurt, well, brock Perty's already hurt, right,
(06:58):
so he could step in immediately and become the starter
their next game. Sam Donald, as long as he stays healthy,
he's not getting into the game. And right now he's
been dinged up a few times. He's missed a couple
of plays, but he's never missed a game. Sam Donald
is a very durable quarterback. So if I'm Daniel Jones,
I personally am probably picking the San Francisco forty nine ers.
(07:22):
But the Minnesota Vikings situation is awfully good because they're
head coach, they're wide receivers. The problem is Daniel Jones
just might not ever get in the football game and
show what he's really capable of. For comparison's sake, Sam
Donald has a sixty point nine percent completion percentage for
(07:44):
his career and Daniel Jones has a sixty four point
one percent completion percentage. Daniel Jones is Sam Donald before
Sam Donald signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Now, as far
as raw talent, Sam Donald probably has more raw talent
the ability to throw the ball down the field his
(08:08):
arm is extraordinary, But Daniel Jones is also talented. It's
not like the guy has no talent. He's selected in
the top ten for a reason. He has showcased enough
arm talent. But I that raw talent that we talked
about that you want to see pop. I think Sam
Donald has more pop. But as far as statistically, these
(08:29):
guys have had similar trajectories. The one difference is that
Sam Donald has resurrected his career with the Minnesota Vikings,
and that's why Daniel Jones might want to do the same.
It's a good looking situation. The Minnesota Vikings want Daniel Jones.
I get why they want him. Daniel Milds might want
(08:49):
to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, but that forty nine
situation might look a little bit better just because of
who their quarterback is. They don't know who their quarterback
is long term. Anders could resign Daniel Jones next year
and let rock Party walk. Who knows what's going to
happen in that situation, But I get it. I get
why Kevin O'Connell and the Minnesota Vikings want Daniel Jones,
(09:12):
and they should want Daniel Jones to come in and
be the backup. Plus, if he signed them, he signed
somewhere else last year. There's a compensatory pick for the
Minnesota Vikings. So it's a plus plus plus plus plus
and makes sense for every party involved, So let's do it.
Let's sign Daniel Jones.
