Speaker 1 (00:02):
The Minnesota Vikings pull off a major surprise and ship
Harrison Phillips, a defensive tackle that they just signed to
an extension last offseason, to the New York Football Jets.
Harrison Phillips is a beloved member within the Vikings organization,

(00:26):
one of the leaders, a community driven guy, signed him
away from the Bills a few years ago and really
has made a home here in the great state of
Minnesota and has established his footprint within the Vikings organization
and fan base not only as a good football player,

(00:47):
but as a good.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Man in the community.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
So it came as a surprise when the Vikings traded
Harrison Phillips to the New New York Football Jets for
a couple of sixth round picks, But not really, because
what also was reported is that the Vikings are exploring

(01:15):
the wide receiver market. And if you have been paying
attention to this podcast, the podcast that I host, The Grind,
has been very clear that the Vikings should not sit
on their hands and wait to trade or sign a receiver.

(01:40):
You've got time to do it right now. You don't
want to go with.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
One week left of the offseason.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
You got one week until Chicago and then you trade
for a guy, and then you try to get them
reacclimated and comfortable in this system in less than a week.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
You've got two to three weeks right now.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Now is the time to trade for a player, Bring
him in, get him comfortable with McCarthy and the opposit
of playbook, get his family comfortable in Minnesota potentially again.
So this trade has bigger ramifications than just the Vikings

(02:23):
trading Harrison Phillips. And what's also interesting about it is
you take a look at what's on the Vikings roster
right now and what have we heard all off season? Well,
the depth, the depth that the Vikings have on the
defensive line. Jonathan Hargrave, Jonathan Allen, Jalen Redman, Levi Rodriguez,

(02:50):
this tyre in Ingram Dawkins, Elijah Williams.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
It's all we've seen all off season.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
And yes, Harry Phillips served a good role for the
Vikings while he was here, but let's be honest about
Harrison Phillips. Harrison Phillips is not some must have player
within the Vikings locker room that you could never replace.
The dude is twenty nine years old, maybe has two

(03:20):
good seasons left. When the Vikings are filled with so
much young and emerging talent, Harrison Phillips didn't need him anymore.
And this is what Quessei, the Vikings general manager, did
a phenomenal job of in this situation. Phillips, because he's

(03:43):
been a good leader within the Vikings locker room and
is a good community guy. He could have got up
in his feelings and kept him on the team because
he's a good glue guy. But what he decided to
do was let's get a couple of draft picks that
we can use to trade for a receiver, and then

(04:05):
let's get rid of him so that we don't have
to cut one of these up and coming guys that
has showcased and showed out during NFL preseason action. So
this was the right trade one hundred without a doubt,
get rid of Harrison Philps.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Good guy, good community guy.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
You can replace him, and yes he was a good
run stopping player. But in all honesty, how much playing
time was Harrison Phillips going to get this season? Maybe
on first down, but he is not a three down
defensive tackle, especially because of all the defensive lineman the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Have on the roster.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
I mean, go through the list, Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel,
Dallas Turner, Jalen Redmond, Elijah Williams, Levi Rodriguez, all of
these players.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
There's not enough room for all of them.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
So the Vikings decided, Hey, Harrison Phillips, you've been good
to us. We appreciate it, but we've got bigger things
to tackle right now. Because right now Tim Jones or
Sayer Thomas is wide receiver two and that's a big issue.
So let's get rid of Harrison Phillips, get some trade
capital that we can use.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
To bring in that next guy.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
And that's where this conversation goes next.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Because all reports are.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Indicating that the Vikings are doing their due diligence on
former wide receiver Detroit Lake's native Mancatos State.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Superstar Adam Thlen.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Tom Pelissaro was the first to report that Adam Thlen.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Is being very much considered as.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
One of the vikings possible wide receivers that they are
targeting the Purple Persuasion.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Send this out our good friend.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Tom pelissarow Minnesota native, notes the Vikings have been working
the phones for a receiver and also links Adam Thelen.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
To the Vikings Feeling thirty four years.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Old, maybe has two seasons left, could.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Be a valuable player for the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
He's been here through ninety percent of his career and
he could add a huge dimension to the Vikings offense
that doesn't have wide receiver two, that doesn't have wide
receiver three.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
For who knows how long.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
So the fact that Tom Pelisero is reporting this makes
it very, very interesting because Tom Pelisaro is one of
the most.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Legitimate reporters in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Not only that, but then you consider what's.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Happened these last few days.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Kevin O'Connell appears on up in Adams KMS show, and
here's what Kevin O'Connell said. Here's a picture of Kevin
O'Connell smiling ear to ear after k Adams presses him

(07:58):
on an Adam Feeling question. And then what's so crazy
about this is Kevin o'connle has the audacity to say this, SOB.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Has the audacity to say.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Yeah, I've never even thought about Adam Feling the Vikings
unifore before.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
What the flipping hell is up?

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Caviit ol Kyle's ass because he has certainly thought of
Adam Feeling being in a Vikings uniform before. This wasn't
some emerging problem that came out of nowhere, and he's never.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Thought of it before.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Kevin o'condle has known, or at least had the conversation
treaded the tires, and Talvim Palliser is reporting.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
It that.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
The Vikings have showed interest in Adam Feeling.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
It's so stupid. Oh yeah, I've never been thought about it.
Are you freaking kidding me? This is so stupid. You
have certainly thought about it.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
Your team is in desperate need of a wide receiver
and you've.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Never thought about it. It's so stupid.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
And then, yeah, so I shared that photo with you.
I'm gonna share another one with you. Take a look
at this picture of Kevin Uncock, the same.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
One just zoomed in.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
That's a man that thought of Adam Thielman in.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
A Vikings uniform. That's a man that has considered.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Bringing back Minnesota's own Adam Feeling in a Viking's uniform.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
It's so funny. I've never thought about it, never considered it.
Oh what are you kay?

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Adams is not the first one to bring this idea
to you.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
And if it was, that's stupid.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
If Kay Adams was the first one to bring up
this idea, and you're a decision maker within a top
organization in the NFL that has super well aspirations, maybe
Kay Adams should be within the Vikings organization because you
have certainly thought of it.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
He's trying to play dumb.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Never thought about it on the first I've heard of it.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Why are you kidding me?

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Your job is to fill up a fifty three man
roster with the best players available, and right now, your
wide receiver two is out, your wide receiver three is out,
and really there are hardly any options after that. You
have certainly thought about Adam Thielen being the Minnesota Vikings

(10:41):
wide receiver two moving forward until Jordan Addison returns, and
then we're not done.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Because one of my favorite.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Things is to take a look at not only what
coaches say, our general managers said, whatever the case, My
favorite thing is to follow family members within the Instagram
community and social media community.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Because Adam Feelings from Minnesota, his wife is from Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Boom Vikings fan page Adam Feelen's wife liked my real
about Kavin O'Connell and Kay Adams. Vikings fan page posted
are real about Adam the conversation we're discussing Kevin O'Connell
and km's and boom, Adam Feeling's wife likes the same thing.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
There's interest there from the Feelings. I mean, let's be
real here.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Do you think Adam Thielen has interest in plankful or
a team like the Panthers that hopefully takes another step
in their rebuild and hopefully brace young builds off of
what they did last year. Or do you think that
he wants to play for a contending Minnesota Vikings team

(12:15):
that has Super Bowl aspirations and go back to where
you're from and have the whole coming home party. It's
an easy answer. And Adam Feeling's wife is liking reel
sending out feel sending out things that are getting the
Minnesota Vikings fan base pumped, and it almost adds a little.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
It doesn't.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
It's adding feel to the fire.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
The house is burning down with Adam Feeling reports this
is happening. Adam Feeling wants to be in Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Woo. What what a situation that is unfolding within the
Vikings organization because.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Harrison Phillips gets traded.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
But there's more to the trade and the Vikings they
need to do something.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
But probably while I'm.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Recording this podcast, the Vikings have traded for Adam Thielen.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Let me see nothing yet. Nothing yet.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
Okay, they have not traded for Adam Delon yet, but
it is a conversation that is ongoing. And Adam Thielen
isn't the only receiver that the Vikings are kicking their
tires on. There are others that are being considered. So
we got to think about that for a moment. But

(13:41):
Adam Theeling, it's not like you're getting prime Adam Theeling.
But at the end of the season last year, Adam
Thielen did show some skills at the end of the
year when he finally had a competent quarterback throwing him
the football because Bryce Young caught fire at the end
of the year and Adam Thielen was a player that

(14:08):
was able to really find his stride at the end
of the season because one of their quarterbacks finally found
their stride. So you pull up Adam Thielen's stat in
the final three games of the season last year and
versus Atlanta five catches, forty four yards, no touchdowns, versus

(14:30):
Tampa Bay five catches one hundred and ten yards, two
touchdowns versus Arizona five catches forty three yards.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Those are very capable wide.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Receiver statistics for a guy that was a top and
you come to Minnesota and you're not gonna be asked
to be wide receiver one because Jefferson's on the team.
You're not even gonna be asked to be option two
because Hockinson's on the team.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
But you will be asked to make some big third
down conversions.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
And if you've been following the Vikings at all over
the last few years, the truth is McCarthy has been
throwing to Adam Thielen these last few off seasons. The

(15:23):
dudes get together all off season and throw the football
with one another during breaks of mandatory practices, So there's
already a relationship formed between quarterback and wide receiver.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
It's not like Adam Thielen is coming to the.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Vikings and it's like, oh, who's your KB, who's this guy?
Now they've thrown to each other all the time, So
it's something that makes one hundred percent sense from every
single party involved.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Ship some picks to the Panthers for.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
A thirty four year old seer that they don't need anymore.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
