Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome into the show today.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
This is the grind and we've got a numerous amount
of topics we're gonna discuss today. We are loaded today,
so make sure you hang with us. We are going
to be discussing Matthew Stafford's long term health, Jackson Darts
finale in the NFL preseason, that and a whole lot more.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
So stay with us.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Let's begin by discussing Jackson's Darts preseason start versus the
New England Patriots the other night. Jackson Dart his statistics
weren't overwhelming six of twelve, one touchdown, a sack, but
in his opening drive led the Giants down the field
(00:50):
and scored a touchdown with ease and Jackson Dart appears.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
To have all the tools you would want and more.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
For a potential franchise quarterback of your team. He has
looked phenomenal this preseason and you look at these stats
right now. He's the team's number three overall quarterback in
their unofficial depth chart, but this preseason thirty two of
(01:23):
forty seven, three hundred and seventy two yards, three touchdowns
and no interceptions, while also doing things with his legs,
adding six carries for fifty two yards and another touchdown
running the ball as well. So in total, Jackson Dart
(01:45):
has thrown or run for four touchdowns, had no interceptions,
had no turnovers, and.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Has a run for fifty two yards.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
That is what you want from your rookie in his
preseason debuts. And you look at Jackson Dart and his
intangibles and I'm not talking about his attitude.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
I'm not talking about his work ethic.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Intangibles can mean something as simple as body size, athleticism,
arm strength, the ability to move in the pocket. Because
as much as we want to make that a tangible thing,
it's an intangible. Dart's size is an intangible because you
(02:39):
can't teach that he was born to be the way
that he is, as big as he is, as huge
as he is, as elusive as he is, and you
can't help but to think Josh Allen when you watch
Jackson Dart play. But this brings up a bigger problem
(03:05):
within the New York Giants organization because they have named
Russell Wilson the official starting quarterback of the Giants, and
they did this weeks ago, but I highly question the
decision to move forward with Russell Wilson as the Giants
(03:28):
starting quarterback. And here's why Russ will be thirty seven
years old in November. Russ played for the Steelers last year,
played for the Broncos the year before. Russell Wilson is
not the Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks, although I
did see.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Him throw a sixty yard rainbow pass to my leak neighbors.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Russell Wilson is a shell of his former self. And
you look at best case scenario in this thing. You
look at what is the best version of Russell Wilson
going to do for the Giants, and the best version
(04:14):
of Russell Wilson is a seven win team in that
division for the New York Giants. I don't see how
it's possible that Russell Wilson can lead this Giants roster
coached by Brian Dable, to.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
More than seven wins at his best.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
And you look at the Draft Kings over under predictions
and the Giants on DraftKings are projected to win six games,
and you look at what Russell Wilson could provide that
Jackson Dark can't, and I don't think there's anything.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
I don't think there's a single.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Asset or skill besides maybe throwing the ball seventy yards
down the field that Russell Wilson has that Jackson Dart
does not. And it's not like the Giants selected Jackson
Dart in the fourth or fifth round and you're hoping
to find something out of nothing, you're hoping to get lucky.
(05:24):
They traded up to select Dart with a twenty fifth
overall pick in the first round. They've invested something in
the guy, and they have an offensive minded head coach
in Brian Dable. The Giants should have named Jackson Dart
their starting quarterback after this third preseason game.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
And you look at.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
What the Giants are going to be with Russell Wilson.
Here is my Giants and guarantee bow. The Giants are
going to suck with Russell Wilson. The owner is going
to be convinced to fire Brian Dable after another losing season.
(06:20):
And what's gonna happen next is mid season. The Giants
season is over everything but the crime, and Dabel is
going to try one last maneuver to try to save
his arse and start Jackson Dark.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
But the problem with that is it's going to be
too late.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
The owner has already made up his mind to fire Brian.
The only chance that Brian Dabele had this season to
save his job was to start Jackson Dark immediately and
hope that he produces like Jaden Daniels and bow Nicks
(07:08):
from last season, taking two teams into the playoffs and
somehow being the surprise and a division with the Eagles,
the Commanders and the America's Team. So, as far as
I see it, Brian Dable lost.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
His job when he named.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Russell Wilson the starter a few weeks ago, because look
at this gauntlet of a schedule. Week one at Washington,
big fat L. Week two at Dallas. Dallas ain't great,
but that's an L. The Giants ain't great either. It's
a battle of two imploding teams facing each other. Week
(07:55):
three home versus Pastor Mahomes and the Chiefs, four home
versus Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
And then finally Week.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Five, you got your first real winnable game of the season.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
On the road against New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
The Giants have a gauntlet of a schedule and they
will be lucky to win two of their first five
games of the season, so you're looking at at best,
starting two and three but most likely starting one and four,
and it's possible that they start aller and five with
Russell Wilson as the starter.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
And what's gonna happen next is, oh, let's.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Call it Jackson Dark to try to save my booty
from the owners that are gonna can my ass.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
And it's the wrong mentality to have.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
And Brian Dable, if he was smart, would pull the
plug on Russell Wilson started the guy because there's more
forgiveness with Jackson Dart. If he goes out this season
and you see progression from week one through week fourteen,
there is more likely it's a more likelihood that you're
(09:14):
gonna save your job that you can convince the owner.
Look what we did from Jackson Dart from week one
through week seventeen. We can build off of that and
think about where we're gonna be next season. Versus you
start him in week seven, week eight, your team stinks,
players are ready giving up and booking their vacations, and.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Then you put him in.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
It's a big, big mistake not to start Jackson Dart
right now, because of what he's shown in the preseason,
because of his intangibles, and because of his natural skill set,
his accuracy, his arm strength, start Jackson Dart now.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
And when I think think about.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
This, my mind goes to the president in the movie
Independence Day. Think about that scene near the end of
the movie. The country has really just been demolished by
(10:21):
the aliens and his wife just passed away in the
hospital after getting demolished by the aliens. The president in
Independence Day did not sit on his hands and allow
(10:41):
the aliens to destroy him, his daughter, and the rest
of the world. He got in the plane and fought.
And this is Brian Dabo's choice right now. He can
sit on his hands, watch Russell Wilson destruct right in
front of his eyes and the Owner's cannon, or he
(11:04):
could fight with everything that he has left and start
Jackson Dart immediately. This is Brian Dables's last chance of survival.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
And do you know what he's doing. He's going down.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Swinging with Russell Wilson, who is now on his fourth
team because the Steelers didn't want him anymore. The Broncos
made one of the worst trades in NFL history.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
To acquire him.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
And then cut him and had like eighty million dollars
dead cap on his cut.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
It's just Brian Dable.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
You gotta come in and go haul in. You got
nothing left your chips out of them. Your last chip
is Jackson Dart.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
And then you throw in Russell Wilson, a player that isn't.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Going to inspire hope from from anyone within that organization.
Jackson Dart is the answer and he is the player
that the Giants should move forward with.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Maybe Brian Dable.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Is self destructing right before our eyes, because this is
a decision that is self destructing. Let me tell you
about five Star Bath Solutions to Minneapolis, because they transformed

in forty eight hours. Big project, small projects, Five Star
Bath Solutions of Minneapolis has your back. Are the next
story that I want to discuss today revolves around Matthew Stafford,
(13:35):
because Stafford it's really been a story all off season
because he has an aggravated disc in his back, and
recently he's been practicing. He's been practicing, and according to Stafford,
he feels good, he feels ready.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Sean McVay has been impressed.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Although he's dozens of practices throughout the offseason, hasn't taken
any hits, but according to everybody that had seen him play,
he looks like himself again.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
The way Stafford.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Said it is he's doing everything under the sun, meaning throwing,
making all throws, doing everything that you could possibly do
on the field. But here's the problem with Stafford and
what he's saying about his practice, and I'm gonna share
a story that relates to it. I remember training for
(14:41):
a marathon. I've run six of them. I remember when
I stopped running and then I started training again, and
I remember that first half mile when I first started
out running.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
I felt good. It felt like I could do everything
under the sun. And I was like, how hard is
this gonna be?
Speaker 2 (15:04):
I've already run four of these, I've already done this.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
This ain't hard.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
I could run like this for miles and miles and miles,
and then I hit my first hill.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
I looked up.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
At that hill and thought, yes, I'm gonna do it.
And the hill looked back at me and said, you
are screwed. You have no chance. You're not in shape yet,
you're not ready yet. And what you're gonna try to
do is they're gonna try to attack me. And the
(15:39):
hill looked back at me and.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Said, no, no, no, no no, you're not ready yet.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
And as soon as you face your first pressure or
hit or conflict, you're going down. And that's Matthew Stafford.
When I hit the hill, I became ft. I was screwed.
When Matthew Stafford faces his first big hit on an
(16:10):
NFL field, going against real defense, not wearing the red jersey,
Matthew Stafford is ft.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Sure you can look great in practice, Sure.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
You can do all the make all the throws when
you're not getting the hit when there's no alignment involved.
But what's he gonna look like when he needs to
be elusive in the pocket? How Stafford gonna react when
there's defenders rushing all around him and one hits him
(16:47):
directly in the back. Because as far as I've seen it.
A quarterback can still get hit in the back. There's
no rule unless it's the dude frame of the helmet,
the front of the helmet, where our quarterback can't get
hit in the back. Matthew Stafford is going to be
(17:11):
fed to the Lions when he steps foot in that
football field. Because as much as we want to think
that this is a brotherhood and they all say it's
a brotherhood, defenses know that Matthew Stafford has a back issue,
so they're gonna give him a little extra hit if
(17:33):
it means they're going to win the game. Matthew Stafford
has been dealing with this back issue all off season,
has misspractices and now he can do everything under the.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Sun, but hasn't taken a hit.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
And I'm supposed to believe that he is going to
be prepared to play seventeen weeks.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
And have no back issues this season. I don't think
it's possible.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Because you are asked as an NFL player at any
position to be ready to play in less time than ever.
Before you play Sunday, you better be ready to play Thursday.
You play Monday, you better be prepared to play Sunday.
(18:26):
Come playoff time you play Sunday, you better be ready
to play Saturday. The NFL schedule is demanding, and now
you play.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
An extra game.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
And Matthew stafford, I'm supposed to believe that his aggravated
disc in his back is going to be.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Healthy for the entire season.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
I see this report, and someone commented on my YouTube page,
looks like you were wrong. I'm not wrong, because you
read the story and here's an It says this. The
veteran declined to specify whether he is still managing this
discomfort or confirm his availability for a week one.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
I'm not gonna answer questions like that. Matthew Stepford says.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Why is he not answering questions like that? Because he
knows he is unsure of his ability to be ready
week one. He could have silenced the critics and said, yeah,
I'll be ready, I'll be good to go. I'm not
afraid of this moment, and I know my body and
mind will be ready for week one.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
He goes, I'm not going to answer questions like that, and.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Then he continues and says, backs are sometimes interesting things.
It's not cut and dry, what's what and how you're
going to feel? Exactly Matthews. Stafford could sleep on his
back wrong for one night and wake up with an
(20:06):
aggravated disc. He's thirty seven and has that played with
injuries throughout his career. The dude is at the detail
end of his career and his health is a major
question because it's a back.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
This isn't a sprained.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Angle that you can play through and it will eventually
heal over time. This isn't a sprain knee or a
sprained wrist or an issue with his non throwing hand.
This is a back, one of the most sensitive parts
of your body outside of a torn ACL or MCL
(20:47):
or a torn or eruptured achilles.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
I don't know what's worse outside of a back issue.
Because it is a day to day thing. You could
wake up stiff as a rod and unable to move.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
If Stafford wants to play consistently this season, he better
be ready to take a huge amount of painkillers because
he is not gonna be able to participate in every
game this season.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
If he doesn't.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
And the last thing I'll say is this, Jimmy Garoppolo
better be ready.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
And he's been.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Certainly getting reps in training camp with his receivers Puka
Nakoula and Devonte Adams, but based on these stories, based
on his comments I'm doing everything under the sun, but
yet refuses to make a claim that he will be ready.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
For week one. I'm doing everything under the sun, but yet, backs.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Are sometimes interesting things. It's not cut and dry, exact.
He hasn't taken a hit. He's in the half mile
stage of training for a marathon, meaning he thinks he's
gonna be ready.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
He thinks this is gonna be easy, and oh.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
I feel great now. I'm doing everything under the sun.
Just wait till he takes that first hit. Just wait
until he gets blindsided. His offensive lineman misses a block,
a linebacker or a defensive tackle is blitzing.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
In the pocket with no protection.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Stafford is screwed, and so are the Rams because they
have everything they need to be a super Bowl contender.
And maybe Jimmy Garoppolo, who took the forty nine ers
to the Super Bowl, will be good enough, but he's
(22:59):
certainly not. Matthew Stafford, thanks for joining the show today.
