Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the White House Press Briefing Room. I'm John Decker,
and for thirty years this has been my home. This
is where I work every day. I've covered every president
since Bill Clinton's first term, and I'm of course covering
the Trump administration right now. I cover the first Trump administration.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
For all four years.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
At the time, I work for Fox News. I now
work for Gray Television and for iHeartRadio. And Caroline Levitt,
who is the new White House Press Secretary.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
She briefs from the podium right behind me.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
She's the seventeenth White House Press secretary that I deal with,
and I've seen good ones, I've seen bad ones.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I think she's doing a commendable.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Job so far as she starts out this administration, along
with so many others. But the reason why this particular
podcast is useful to you is.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Because you don't have a lot of time.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
People don't get their news necessary early from the broadcast networks,
from nightly news or sometimes from the cable outlets of
Fox and MSNBC and CNN. You don't have time, and
so what you do have time for is fifteen minutes
to hear about what the most important elements are happening
any day at the White House, and that's exactly what

(01:21):
I'm going to deliver to you, and I'm going to
do it in an unbiased, unvarnished way. I don't have
an ax to grind. I don't need to spin things
in any particular way. The reason why I've been able
to cover the White House for thirty years is because
Democratic administrations Republican administrations, they respect me. They know I'm

(01:44):
going to ask tough but fair questions. I'm not going
to ask gotcha questions. That's not my role. That's never
been my role. When I'm here at the White House
and I'm sitting in the Press Briefing room asking questions
to the Press Secretary, or if I'm in the Oval
Office or the Cabinet Room or the Roosevelt Room, when

(02:06):
I'm there, i'm there because you can't be there. I'm
asking the questions that you want to have answers to.
That's always the way I viewed it, and I think
that that is the reason why I'm one of the
longest serving White House correspondents covering the White House on
a regular basis. I'm also, by the way, the only
lawyer in the White House Press Corps. So oftentimes I'll

(02:29):
weigh in on some of the legal issues of emanating
from the Supreme Court that have an impact on this administration.
I'm often in the Supreme Court for oral arguments. I'm
a member of the Supreme Court bar. I was even
in the Supreme Court back in the year two thousand
in December.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
For Bush v. Gore.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
So I also have a lot of institutional knowledge as
it relates to the Supreme Court, in addition to the
institutional knowledge that I have covering this White House. Now,
if you want to get sean handse perspective, you certainly can,
but you know he's coming at it from a certain
point of view. And if you want to watch Morning Joe,

(03:08):
that's certainly an option, but he too comes at it
from a point of view. My focus is the facts,
and what I'll do for fifteen minutes every day is
to tell you the most important things that you need
to know as you're going off to work, as you're
preparing breakfast, as you are preparing lunch for your children,

(03:28):
so that you know, as you go off to work,
what are the most important things coming from the White House,
the Trump White House on any given day. Because there's
always a ton of news coming from this administration, but
if you tune in here, you're going to.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Get it every day.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
You're going to get an unbiased, unvarnished view, and that
will be useful to you as you go about your
life and go about your week.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
To have a good one. I'll see you tomorrow.
