So the International Monetary Fund just announced California it's the
fourth largest economy in the world four point one trillion
dollar GDP gross domestic product, larger than any other nation
outside the United States, China, and Germany. It's a point
of pride, and it's a point of privilege to represent
a state not only with the largest economy in the

(00:23):
United States of America, but a state that represents the
tentpole of the US economy in terms of job creation
and innovation and entrepreneurialism. We're also the number one manufacturing
state in the United States of America and enjoy more
two way trade and direct foreign investment than any other state.
And so a consequence of these Trump tariffs, the consequence

(00:45):
of all the uncertainty that we're now seeing all around
the world because of these unilateral tariffs that have been
imposed by the Trump administration have an outsized role on
the state of California. We're already seen it significantly at
the ports of Long Beach and the ports of La
Forty percent four zero percent of the goods movement in

the United States of America goes through those ports of entry.
Of course, all of us, though, are feeling the anxiety,
the uncertainty that's marked this moment. You have your four
to one k, you're seeing your life savings depleted, and
we're also the scene depletion of trust, the coin of
the realm trust around the world. Decades and decades, eighty

years of developing relationships with allies around the globe. We're
seeing that trust frey in real time. When I started
this podcast, I said, I wanted to listen directly to you,
and I also want to talk a little bit to
you about my own experience. I started as a small
business person. I started right out of college with one
part time employee, Pat Kelly, and I built a business,

(01:51):
a few dozen small businesses. At peak, we had over
seven hundred employees. I say that not to impress you,
but to impress upon you my passion for entrepreneurialism and
an emotional attachment I have to taking those risks in
those early days and the risks and uncertainty that come
today as those businesses mature. And I imagine there are

(02:13):
many people listening that feel the same way. Folks that
have put everything on the line, that took that risk,
that got that loan, that may even leverage their own
home to make a go at it. That may have
convinced a family member to come on board, that had
a great idea and just made it happen and it
broke through. Or those of you may be struggling with

(02:35):
an idea that you thought would be great and you
felt you were coming out the other side, but all
of a sudden, all this new uncertainty has painted a
picture where you just you've lost a little step, You've
lost a little confidence, and so I'd love to hear
directly from you. I'd love to hear how it's impacting you.
