Speaker 1 (00:06):
Season two of The Tongue Unbroken is coming out on
January sixteenth. Please join us for conversations on decolonization and
language revitalization in North America. We'll be covering a wide
range of topics this season that are relevant to everybody
in North America, because if you didn't know, if you

(00:28):
live in North America, you live in Native America. Indigenous lands,
Indigenous peoples, Indigenous stories, Indigenous thoughts, Indigenous perspectives. I am
excited about this season. We're going to be looking at things,
whether they're artistic, creative, mental health issues, spiritual health, what

(00:49):
it will take to be transformational in your work, in
your day to day operations. Wherever you are, whatever you're doing,
you could be of assistance to Native American language is
and we can find a way to live in a
place that is not a colonial killing machine. And if
you join us this season, you'll be able to hear

(01:10):
important voices across Native America, such as the powerful, brilliant
and incredible Colinoid Kamana, such as this conversation that we
had last summer.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
I think that we need to trust the way that
we were raised, the trusted and to actually see colonization
as kind of a side issue, and not pay so
much attention to that, even that word you know, and
what that means, because it will distract you from what

(01:44):
you're reading supposed to be focusing in on, which is
the olova in our case we're talking about here and
the Hawaiian culture and the language and how it is
experienced lived as a real and valuable part of our past,
our present, and our future. And so when we work

(02:05):
with each other, because people, whenever you have people, you
have problems. So we want to utilize our traditional ways
of or getting back to what is pono, what is correct,
what is right, the right way to be. And so
if we look at our own people and our own
ways that have been passed on over the years and

(02:29):
practice those ways in contemporary society today and not think
of it as old, that's the way it was before,
or the Hawaiians were kind of thinking was pretty much
the way for a long long time. And so in
bringing our language and our children together, and our elders

(02:49):
and our children together, our coupona, the children show us
and remind us of where we are and where we're going.
It's always inspiration to hear their voices and to see
them and to look at them. And so when we
are faced with problems that's going to happen all the time.
The ability to remember that, remember and recall as we

(03:14):
work together, and to acknowledge each other's strengths, because we
cannot be doing this alone as individuals. I'm just thinking
about individuals. It's very foreign, but because individuals are part
of a collective or an ohana, a family, and families
have problems, you know, and some of them are pretty terrible,

(03:38):
you know, living together. And so when we understand and
take care of each other, even in the most dismal
times difficulties, we know that living together in peace or
keeping maluhia or peace is at work. It is not
something that just happens organically. It needs attention, needs aloha

(04:01):
and care.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Yeah, oh what mahalo gonna cheese. The thing about being
in Native America and doing things that are indigenous and
looking at identity and language and decolonization, you just never
know when it's gonna be your last chance to make
an impact. But this is generational. We're looking back five

(04:27):
six seven generations, we're looking forward five six seven generations.
We're thinking about the people who are going to be
here and in the remains of us, and we are
in the remains of our ancestors. Join us for Season two,
drop in January sixteenth on the iHeartMedia Network. Find it
