Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good morning, everyone,
and welcome to Morning Run. It's Friday, September fifth.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
I'm Amy Robot and I'm TJ Holmes, and we got
a lot going on this morning. In fact, Robes was the
first thing you said to me when you came in.
You looked at the rundown, you said, oh my god,
we got a lot of story.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Second day in a row, it's just NonStop news.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
But there's been some We got some good news actually
this morning, some exciting news, including for white LOTUS fans.
This such thing is such a phenomenon that just getting
a hint of where the next location is for season
four has people going crazy.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Oh I'm so excited. In fact, I want to already
book a trip to the next location.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
We'll tell you what that next spot is. Also, Justin
Bieber had a bit of a rough night, but things
worked out for him and his fans, So that's good news.
But we got a surprise drop from Justin Bieber last night.
We'll tell you why I didn't go off without a hitch. Also,
NFL is back. A lot of fans excited about that
big night last night. You're probably concerned knowing that we're

(01:04):
back in through late night sports.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Oh god, I mean, I'm excited. College football is in
full swing now.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
But NFL. All right, you're gonna have to kind of
sell me on that.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Okay, Well, well, this did not help sell you on
the NFL season because the season started before the first
play from scrimmage. A player was kicked out of the
game for spitting what on another player, and that is
how the NFL season started. We'll explain what happened there.
Two of the biggest legends and names in all of boxing.

(01:36):
You don't follow it that closely, but everybody knows these
two names. Tyson Mayweather, Yes I do know those names.
You also know that these two probably a little too
old to be fighting each other.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Yeah, they're like our age, aren't they?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Forty eight and fifty nine?

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Oh okay, yeah, right in the middle.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Now an exhibition between the two, they're gonna fight each other.
We'll tell you about that and explain why there's concern
airline passengers. Listen up here. It doesn't matter if you're
a mccrat or a Republican. You're on the side of
airline passages on this one. Because Trump has changed the
rule that Biden put in place, and it's gonna cost
you money. Also on the money front, you like Star Wars, Yes,

(02:13):
you get that. The lightsaber is a big deal.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
I totally get that.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Oh yes, well, Darth Vader's lightsaber just sold for a
record amount. We'll tell you about that. And all you
have to say is our money, right, our money. I
don't know how legendary and iconic you could possibly categorize
this guy, but he's passed at ninety one, and just
reading about him, the impact he had on fashion, some
stuff I didn't even understand.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
At all, and working up until his final days, it's
you know, he's got a he had a big anniversary
coming up and he was trying to get to that.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
But yes, folks all over are remembering his life and impact.
We do want you to take a look at your
phone right now, that section there and the Apple podcast
app where you see our page, you see our faces,
you see our show page top right corner it says
follow click on that you can get our updates anytime.
Don't have to go looking for him. And it's been
a lot of updates and just been a busy time

(03:02):
these days.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
It certainly hasn't speaking of a busy time. You just
heard all those news headlines. There's more. Also on the
Run this morning, DC tells Trump to get out. You
know that fired Federal Reserve governor Will She's now facing
a criminal investigation. And then the Feds are now going
after the folks. Turns out it was a child that
sparked an active shooter alert on a college campus this week.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah. Also on the Run this morning, the Department of
Defense gets a name change today, but not really. Also,
you will not be seeing Caitlin Clark on the court
again this season, and we get an explanation for Biden's
head bandage and robes. I guess the highlight story of
the day, A sweet story of the day, a story

(03:45):
about endurance, and a story that we should get everybody
moving today when you hear the record that this man
set by being the oldest person to climb a mountain
that you have also climbed, Yes.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yes, Mount Fuji.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
And this is about perseverance, hard work, but also it's
about family and that's why I love this story.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
It's a very cool story. But let's get going on
this morning run. And we begin the run by continuing
our morning run series something we like to call hoodne
gone and sued Trump. Now today it's Washington, d C. Yes,
the US capital city has now sued the US president.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Yep. The city, in a lawsuit filed yesterday, accuses the
Trump administration of violating federal law when he ordered National
Guard troops to patrol the city. The suit also claims
Guard troops have been performing police duties, patrolling, doing searches,
even making arrest and it warns it's DC today, but
it could be any other city tomorrow. We filed this
action to put an end to this illegal federal overreach.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Of course, National Guard troops have been in DC since
the week of August eleventh, when the President initiated a
federal takeover of the city, saying it was necessary to
cut down on crime. In response to the lawsuit, the
White House said the President had the right to do
this and call the lawsuit an attempt to undermine the
President's highly successful operations to stop violent crime in DC.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Next up on the run Armani.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
And that's really all you have to say, just that
one name, and you automatically and immediately think high fashion. Well,
the fashion world is mourning the loss today of a
true icon. Designer Giorgio Armani has passed away at the
age of ninety one.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yes Famili said he died peacefully at home in Milan,
surrounded by family, and added indefatigable to the final, to
the end, I should say indefatigable to the end. He
worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company,
the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects. Harmani
had missed the summer's Milan fashion show. This was the

(05:43):
first time in his career he had missed it, and
he was also set. Fifty anniversary celebration of Armani was
coming up this month.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Oh, I'm sure a lot of tributes will be pouring
in for that celebration. Armani became synonymous with high fashion
as well as casual elegance. His deconstructed, un lined suit
created a relaxed, flowing look that became all the rage.
There will be a public viewing in Milan this weekend
before a private funeral.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
But it was pretty cool to see how he started
out as a window dresser in Milan.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
You know you we say that and let's say, oh,
he was just a no no, you know, the eye
we've seen it, certainly here in New York. These are
a big deal, and big time designers put these together,
so it kind of makes sense. I had no idea
that this guy has twenty restaurants, two hotels, he owns
a basketball team, and in Italy he has bars. So
his reach, it allowed him, his empire, allowed him to

(06:36):
build in things outside of fashion. This was so cool.
I didn't know about the suit either. I didn't know
he was given credit.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
For I didn't know that either.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
I certainly I just had this pop in my mind.
If you have ever watched Father of the Bride, when
they say ARMANI doesn't mc naffeet blue when he was
talking about the suits, you didn't know that line.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
But okay, I don't know why.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
They just popped in my head, but it was a
funny on a scene where Steve Martin was claiming his
suit was our money.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Ah, yes, and.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
No, I didn't know that was the thing. They created
this silhouette this by deconstructing the suit, and it's still
all the rage. Now. You go over to Europe and
that's everywhere, and that's why I love europeing you.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Wear those deconstructed online suits all the time rest.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
In peace suit Georgio Armani. We continue on the run
here now with the federal government going after a California
utility company, claiming the company is directly responsible for one
of the deadliest and destructive wildfires in the LA area
this year. The government issuing Southern California Edison for allegedly
starting the Eton Fire. It was one of a series

(07:39):
of fires that devastated southern California in January.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
The suit states that Edison's negligence is the only reason
the fire started, blaming the company's improper equipment, maintenance, and
faulty equipment. The government is seeking seventy seven million dollars
in damages.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
And you may remember.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Nineteen people died in the Eaten Fire and ten thousand
structures were destroyed. Southern California ye Edison said it is
reviewing the lawsuit.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Continuing on the run now with an update on President
Biden's health. The former president recently had surgery to remove
cancerous cells from his skin. He was spotted recently with
a pretty good sized scar and bandage on his head.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
His spokesperson said.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
The former president underwent what's called Moe's surgery, which is
a process of removing layers of skin tissue. He underwent
something similar in twenty twenty three during his term, and
this news all comes after Biden announced earlier this year
he had an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has
spread to his bonds.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
By continuing on the run, now we'll mention President Biden again.
His administration created a rule in which airlines would have
to give cash compensation to passengers for flight disruptions that
were caused by the airline. Sounds like a good rule,
sounds like something that airline passengers would love. Well, President
Trump just did away with it.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
The rule was never implemented, but it would have required
airlines to compensate passengers with up to seven hundred and
fifty bucks for some of the worst delays, as well
as cover meals and lodging. But the Trump administration is
now said never mind. Biden put the rule in place
in the closing weeks of his administration, so it was
up to Trump to actually implement it, and he has
chosen not to do.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Yes, this is kind of in the deregulation mindset. We
don't want to put more rules on big time companies,
so this is in line with the president's thinking well,
continue on the run now with the dust Justice Department,
they now opened a criminal a criminal investigation into Federal
Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. They fired the lady. Now a
criminal investigation, the DOJ has issued subpoenas after the Trump

(09:35):
administration alleged that Cook engaged in mortgage fraud, focusing on
her properties in Michigan and Atlanta, saying she had designated
both of her homes as her primary residence, which is
something you're not supposed to do, but by doing so,
this could have given her some more favorable interest rates
on her mortgage. So they are saying she intentionally tried
to gain the system.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Right exactly, and Cook has denied all wrongdoing and the investigation.
The criminal and investigation comes after Trump used those fraud
allegations as the reason why he wants to fire Cook,
which would then allow him to replace her on the
Fed Reserve Board. So the Federal Reserve Act only allows
the President to fire Fed governors for cause. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Cook responded by filing a lawsuit claiming Trump moved to
her or his move to fire her is illegal and
an attempt to fill the board with a majority of
his appointees, so he can forward his agenda to undermine
the independence of the Federal Reserve. Another way to put
that is so he can get the Board to do
what he wants it to do when it comes to
interest rate cuts.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Yes, so Cook's atorneys have responded to this now criminal investigation,
saying the questions over how Governor Cook described her properties
from time to time are not fraud. But it takes
nothing for this DOJ to undertake a new politicized investigation,
and they appear to have just done it again now.
Just last week, the administration further alleged that Cook has
made multiple false representations, including listing an apartment in Massachusetts

(10:59):
as both an investment property and a second home. Oh
my god.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Well, right now, a judge is considering Cook's request for
an emergency order to stop her from being removed from
the FED Board. While the case moves through the courts,
the FED to the next meeting set for September sixteenth. Last month,
as Trump talked to reporters about his effort to fire Cook,
he said, we'll have a majority shortly, and all this
is going on, she's trying to hold on to her job.
He has already nominated somebody else and is going through

(11:24):
the nomination process and was going on just yesterday, so
he is moving forward, all right.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Next up on the run, the US Department of Defense
is getting a name change. President Trump has been talking
about this for weeks. Today he will sign that executive
order to change the name to the Department of War,
or perhaps we should just say change it back to
the Department of.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
War, because that was its original name when it was
first created back in seventeen eighty nine, but it was
changed to the Department of Defense by an Act of
Congress in the late nineteen forty. So here's the thing.
It'll likely take another Act of Congress to officially change
change the name to Department of War, because Trump's executive

(12:03):
order calls on, yes, the Department of War to be
the secondary title, since the President can't officially change the
name of a cabinet level department of the US government
with just a stroke of his pen. So he's telling
everybody call it this. I'm telling you all to call
it this.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
And I'm sure they will follow.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
So yes, the administration will start the process of changing
their signage and websites and business cards and all that.
The order instructs Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to proposed legislative
action in order to change the name permanently and officially.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
He also is now going to be called the Secretary
of War. All right, all right? Next up on the run,
next leg takes us to Massachusetts. It turns out that
video of an armed gunman on the first day of
classes at UMass Lowell was actually a juvenile holding a
fake gun. Students of faculty were given a shelter in

(12:57):
place order, and classes were ultimately canceled. Authorities rushed to
the scene this week.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
Yeah, Local and state police, along with the FBI and
the ATF all responded to campus after multiple reports and
videos of a person with a long weapon were authenticated.
So officers campus the campus in search of this suspect,
described as a five foot five Asian male, with drones,
canine units, and a helicopter. Lowell police say at one
point in their search they recovered the weapon, which turned

(13:24):
out to be an air soft replica firearms.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Okay, they didn't give a lot of details here about
who this kid was, what was going on, didn't even
give his age, didn't say how they were able to
identify them. We don't know if there are going to
be any charges filed either. Loyal Police released the statement saying,
while the reported firearm in this case was ultimately determined
to be an airsoft gun, our community can be certain that,
as in this case, the Loyal Police Department will always

(13:50):
utilize all available resources until the safety of all involved
is assured. Have you seen anywhere that I mean the kid.
Was he trying to play a prank or just.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Unfortunately we have no details.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
But now it makes a lot of sense because with
the video that we saw and the images that we
saw that were absolutely verifiable, it was shocking that in
just two and a half hours police were called off
the search told everybody on campus, yeah, he's left the area.
So the fact that they found this fake gun and
then perhaps located this kid makes sense. While they were
able to confidently say that it was all clear, you.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Know, that's great. Like there have been a lot of hoaxes.
I don't know if this was an intentional one, but
this is another case of essentially a false alarm on
another college campus. This was their first day, right.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
And yes it was their first day of classes, and
who knows what this kid's motivation was, Was it to
pull a prank. Was it to scope out and see
if he got caught or noticed?

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Maybe totally innocent.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
If you look at if you look at the video,
it looks like he has an AR fifteen rifle. I
mean it looks like a assault rifle.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
No one just walks around like that.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
You're right, And why is he know? A college campus teenager?

Speaker 3 (14:58):
Exactly?

Speaker 1 (14:59):
All right? Now ext up on the run better late
than never. Believers had a rough night last night. They
were complaining on social media. It was hilarious, like ten
PM's my bedtime, bro, I'm still up. After promoting a
surprise midnight drop of his eighth and follow up album,
Swag two, midnight came and went on the East coast,
and then midnight came and went on the West coast.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Okay, so Bieber was trying to calm every down, everybody down.
He posted several messages on Instagram saying that it's coming.
He did say that there was a technical delay. He
even confirmed right he wanted to give us proof that
this was the case. He posted an image of his
text conversation with his manager about the text.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Right, what's going on dude? Like they were back and forth,
like any minute now, yeah, But.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Eventually in the middle of the night, believers got what
they wanted, his Swag to hit streaming services with twenty
three new songs. And just about everybody is doing a
guest appearance on this thing, among them a Little Bee
and Sexy Red. I'll just just to name a few,
but there's a lot of folks who are guesting on
this album.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Yeah. And it was early Thursday when Bieber began teasing
his second surprise release of the summer, after he dropped
Swag in July with almost no warning whatsoever. And that's
four years after his last album Justice. So Swag debuted,
by the way, with more than one hundred ninety eight
million streams. This is back in July. That was the
strongest streaming debut of his career. So hypes hopes are
high for Swag too.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Hopes are high, hops or who what were you trying
to say?

Speaker 3 (16:27):
I didn't get much sleep last night, act.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
And that was a good reason for that, folks, because
we went to see Conjuring, the new Conjuring movie. And
you better don't walk run into the theater this weekend
to see this movie, by and.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
The reason why we stayed up late is because after
we saw the Conjuring, we came in and we did
a podcast about it.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
So if you want to check it out on our.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
Feed, we give all We don't give anything away, but
we definitely go over it. We did a bit of
a movie review, but we were super excited about how
fun it was to watch.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
So if you want to hear what two people sound
like after staying up from three am until about eleven
o'clock and work, listen to that podcast for no other
reason just to hear how we sound. But stay with
us here on this Friday morning run when we come back.
We got some great news for you White LOTUS fans.

(17:12):
We got some tough news for you WNBA fans. We
got some I don't know how to feel about it
news for you boxing fans. We got some what the
hell was that news for you NFL fans. And we've
got also some wonderful news for anybody who never never
thinks it's too late.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Before we go to break, I have to tell you
about new leggings I've been living in lately. They're from
this brand called Tona and fun fact here they were
actually designed by the same visionary behind Lululemon. So from
that alone, you already know they're going to be pretty good.
These leggings feel like a second skin. They're super flattering,
super comfortable, and somehow still supportive. I've been wearing them

(17:55):
on my morning runs and they've quickly become my everyday
ing leggings too. And here's what makes them even better.
Every pair you buy helps fund a mental health counseling
session for a teen in need. Tona's on a mission
to end teen suicide and self harm, which we think
is so important and incredible. So we've partnered with Tona
to give you twenty percent off your order and free shipping.

(18:18):
Head to tonaactive dot com and use code iHeart for
twenty percent off and free shipping.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
We can tell you on this Friday morning, ron and
it has been widely reported now that we know where
White Lois Lotus Season four is headed. Here is a
heat the Lotus Blanc that makes perfect saying the White
Lotus is possibly going to France. That's the word now,
Speculation already building for not just France, but which location

(18:57):
in France, even which hotel could be the centerpiece of
this wildly popular, award winning murder mystery series.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Yes, HBO has a marketing partnership with the Four Seasons
hotel chain, which has appeared as White Lotus hotels in
the previous three seasons. And it might not just be
one hotel because last season the show actually used multiple
resorts to shoot the series. But yeah, I didn't either,
I don't. I'm not good with French. The famous Grand
Hotel du cop Fraud. I don't know if that's how
you say it, but it's in the French Riviera near

(19:26):
can and it is one of the speculated settings. However,
the two other Four Seasons hotels in France are in
the French Alps and in Perry.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Now French Viriera is the closest to the settings in
the first three seasons you had Maoi Sicily Thailand. White
Lotus creator Mike White said at the end of season
three that he wanted to quote get a little bit
out of the crashing waves against Rocks vernacular. Okay, Well,
the French Alps location may be the least likely of
the three. The White Lotus cast members have said in
the past that White Lotus.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Hates the colt, not White Lotus, White White.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
Mike White, who made White Lotus, Yes, Mike White hates
the cold, so he is previously vetoed ski resort locations.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
That's right, this is your kind of guy. He doesn't
want to be filming in the cold, so he prefers
to have warm, sunny locale.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
Do you want to want? I mean, the storyline speak
for themselves, but there's something about a location that looks
just the sun and the beach and exotic like that.
I don't know how it would play.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
In a Oh, we would play great in a cold setting.
That's exciting, says the German.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
All right, continuing on our runnow this Friday morning. Oh,
tough news for superstar Caitlin Clark, her team, and really
all the WNBA. Clark announced yesterday that she is out
for the rest of the season because of a lingering
groin injury.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
In her words, disappointed isn't a big enough word to
describe how I'm feeling. She's only played thirteen games this season,
and she hasn't played since July fifteen.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Yeah, regular season is kind of wrapping up, just a
few games left for the Indiana Fever, but her team
is still in the playoff hunt, so this is a
big deal. She never missed a game in college. You
know this is tough for her, never missed the game
or a whole career, and now this is her second
year in the WNBA, and she has been a tough
one for But she's gonna be fine. She's gonna bounce back.

(21:09):
She's a superstar. All Right, We're going to continue now
on the run and really, Ropes, I don't know how
to feel about this one. Two of the all time grapes,
absolutely legendary boxers in the history of the sport, are
going to fight each other. One of them is forty
eight years old, the other is fifty nine.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson have agreed to an exhibition
fight to take place next spring. Mayweather finished his storied
career undefeated, but has not fought professionally since twenty seventeen.
He's done several exhibition fights in recent years. Tyson, meanwhile,
fought in an exhibition against Jake Paul last November. Remember that, well,
it was a match that was the most streamed sporting

(21:49):
event ever.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Yeah, Iron Mike lost that match by unanimous decision. Now
we should know Tyson and Mayweather, they did not fight
in the same weight class. Tyson was a heavy Mayweather
fought in several weight classes, but much lighter, so there
is about a seventy pound weight difference. How does that
work between these two dudes. There's a ten year age
gap between these two dudes, and I'd say, I don't

(22:12):
know how to feel about it. I love, love, love
both of these guys. I don't want to see Tyson
get hit ever again, because after that, he's fifty nine
and just just at times you don't feel like he's strong.
You look like any moment he could get hurt, like
some serious damage could be done to him. I love
Mike Tyson, and I do not want him to get
in another ring.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
I just don't all right, Well, but it looks like
it's happening regardless of your feelings, all right. Next up
on the run, an eventful opening night for the NFL season,
highlighted by a spitting incident and a lightning delay. The
Dallas Cowboys were visiting the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles,
but after opening kickoff just six seconds into the game,
before a play was ever run from scrimmage, Eagles defensive

(22:53):
lineman Jalen Carter was ejected again.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
They had not even run a single play in the game.
They had only done kickoff, So why how it's like
on the movie Friday, how you can How are you
gonna get fired on your day off?

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Like?

Speaker 2 (23:08):
How do you get kicked out of a game when
the game isn't even going on? But that's what happened
because he was seen clearly spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Now we had to suffer through seeing the replay over
and over and now he didn't Okay, he didn't hawk
up Alogie, but he spit on You could see it clearly.

(23:28):
The game finally did get going, and when it did,
there was a lightning delay. Lightning in the area forced
them to evacuate the stadium. They had to stop the
game for an hour. So kind of an eventful in
a way you don't want it to be eventful start.
The Eagles eventually won the game twenty four to twenty.
So the NFL season is off and running.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
Baby, all right?

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Next up on the Run, Darth Vader's lightsaber is now
the most expensive piece of Star Wars memorabilia ever sold
at auction. The saber, which by the way, is not
a working lightsaber, was used by Vader in Empire Strike
Back and Return of the Jedi in those iconic fight
scenes between Vader and Luke Skywalker.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
So this thing sold four to three point six million dollars.
The starting bid was five hundred thousand dollars, so it
ultimately goes for some six times the amount. Is the
only lightsaber from the original trilogy to ever be auctioned,
and it's not exactly in mint condition. You can tell
it's been used maybe in some fights. But it has

(24:26):
scratches and some chips, some chip paint on it, but
that is we don't know who bought.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
It, but that is that makes it cooler. I think
the fact that it has all of those Yeah, I
love that all right. For the final leg of our
run and my favorite story of the morning, we head
to Japan because the Guinness Book of World Records has
officially recognized one hundred and two year old Kokichi Akuzawa
as the oldest person to summit Mount Fuji and get

(24:51):
whose record he beat his own. Six years ago, Akuzawa
became the oldest person to some at Japan's highest peak
at the age of ninety six.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
So what makes last month's achievement even more impressive is
not just that he's one hundred and two, but that
in the six years since his last record breaking summit,
he overcame heart issues, shingles, and an injury from a
climbing fall. So a ninety six year old recovered, yes,
so he could climb a mountain now. He said he

(25:22):
was tempted this time around to give up halfway through,
but it was his family and friend who encourage him
to keep going. He did summit the mountain alongside his
seventy year old daughter, his granddaughter, her husband, and four
friends from a local mountain climbing club. That's cool.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
That actually gives me chills and just ah, it boosts
my whole day thinking about that. They spent two nights
on the mountain before reaching the top, which is, by
the way, twelve three hundred and eighty eight feet. Akuzawa said,
I've never felt this week. I didn't have pain, but
I kept wondering why I was so slow, why I
had no stamina. I'd long since passed my physical limit,

(25:59):
and it was only thanks to everyone else's strength that
I made it.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
Akuzawa said he spent.

Speaker 1 (26:05):
Three months training for this climb, waking up at five
am every day for a one hour long walk and
then he climbed at least one mountain a week around
where he lives. But I just love that spirit and
that drive to be setting goals at that age and
to be doing it with the people you love most.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
It's just the coolest thing ever.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
You know.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
I love mountain climbing. You can do it.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
It is an activity if you keep active, that you
can keep doing for a very long time.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
But this is so impressive.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
Okay, this is something that I believe should be physically
impossible for one hundred and two year old new doctor
on the planet would recommend you do this.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
When we climbed, I won't call out a producer. When
we climbed Mount Fuji, we did this on camera, and look,
they were carrying things. I wasn't carrying. I had a backpack.
But I mean, we had a healthy, fifty something year
old man literally saying.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
I am suffering. I am suffering. And he kept saying
it the whole way up. And I won't say his
name was like shot up.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
But we ended up having to get oxygen for him
to make it up to the top of the mountain.
So to think of a fifty something year old, fairly
fit guy having a problem getting up there. It took
us two days to get up. This one hundred and
two year old man did it. I wouldn't say effortlessly,
but he made it.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
Congrats to him and to hear he went through challenges
like you had to overcome. If any if one hundred
and two year old halfway through say you guys, I'm done,
everybody shows that you know what understanding.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
Let's not push it.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
But he pushed it. Good for him, Good for him.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
I love it all right.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
And to further inspire you, on this Friday, we have
our quote of the day today, The grass is greenest
where you water it.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
I've heard some version is that attributed to somebody, well.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
Neil Barringham. He's an author. I believe he's from Australia.
But it's cool because we always say the grass is
greener on the other side. So it's about envy. That's
the age old quote that we hear all the time
about jealousy and envy. This is a cool way to
turn that and to empower you because I've also heard
this is one of my other favorite quotes. What you
appreciate appreciates and that's just the truth. Wherever you put

(28:09):
your heart and your focus in that is what.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Is going to be the most beautiful.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Invest in what you have on your side of the fence,
and the folks on the other side are going to
be trying to get to your yard. It really is
that simple. That's a great.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Que The grass is greenest where you water it. And
without everyone, have a wonderful Friday. Thank you for running
with us.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
I'm Amy Robot and I'm TJ. Holmes. We will be
seeing y'all real soon.
