Speaker 1 (00:02):
To Teas in a Pod with Teddy Mellencamp and Camra Jedge.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Hi, guys, welcome to another episode of Two Teas and
a Pod.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
It's myself, Teddy Mellencamp.

Speaker 4 (00:20):
And them back so soon. It's Matt Lafary.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
It's Matt Laffery, you guys.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
I feel like there was a bunch of things we
needed to talk about, and I just wanted to kind
of give everybody a heads up where everything has been going. One.
Thank you for so graciously welcoming Matt who stepped in
for me. Because Matt is not only one of our producers,
he's one of truly one of my best friends, and
we talk about these shows at nauseum, so he knows

(00:51):
all my opinions, my hot takes, his hot takes, Erica's
hot takes, Tamra's hot takes on her shows like it's
just it's constant. So I'm so grateful to have such
an amazing production team that will allow me to still
be able to speak to you guys, even on days
that I can't.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
So that's kind of the update. So a lot of things.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Have gone on in the last two days between what
happened at my house and me not being able to
show up for the POD, and there were two separate
instances and one thing that I really wanted to kind
of make clear, which I've tried my hardest to do
throughout this entire cancer journey, is one, yes, I have

(01:39):
stage four cancer. Two, I cannot control exactly how I
feel on each given day. Three On the days that
I feel really good, I want to take advantage of it,
and on the days I feel terrible, I have to
listen to my body. So that's kind of where we were.
So last week I went with my daughter to her

(01:59):
horse show. I only made it a day and a half.
I wasn't even riding myself. I was just gonna go
watch her. I even stayed in a camper on the
facility because I thought, Okay, then I can go back
and forth even though I'm not feeling good. Essentially, I
haven't been feeling good for about a month, which was
kind of shocking to me, and I think mentally did

(02:19):
a lot to me because.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
I was like, what do you mean? I felt so
good right.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
After the surgeries, and then when I was having radiation
and immune therapy, I was feeling good, So why am
I not able to do this right now, Like, why
do I feel like I can barely open my eyes
or keep my words straight?

Speaker 3 (02:38):
And I kind of learned why this week at the doctors.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
So the day I missed, I went straight to Like
it's not in an er because it's my regular doctor's office,
but I went for an emergency appointment. I'd been having
some thyroid issues, so that put me on some medication
for that. So I know that Matt and Eric said
a little bit about something about immunotherapy, how it can

(03:04):
affect your healthy cells and sometimes things change. Essentially, what
we figured out with me was, yes, I started out
feeling great, and I could do all the pods and
I could do all these things, and I could go
to all my daughter's horse shows and I could stay
at my house by myself, and I felt really strong.

(03:26):
And what's happening with me is the longer that I'm
on immunotherapy, the sicker it's making me. So for some people,
especially when they come from you know, having brain tumors removed, radiation, immunotherapy,
all of these things at once, that's when they feel

(03:47):
their worst. And I feel like even my friends that
are nurses or doctors were like, what the heck's going
on with Teddy?

Speaker 3 (03:51):
How's she going to this horse show? How's she doing this?

Speaker 2 (03:54):
But no, guys, like, it's really hit me, like these
are my hands and this is me trying to be
as calm as I possibly.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Can right now.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
And so if I ever feel like I can't give
a good POD, I would rather have somebody step in
and do a good one, and do it on time
so that you're in the moment, because I know as
a viewer, that's how I like to watch it. I
don't like to watch two weeks of recap. I want
to watch what happened last night or the night before,
or whatever it may be. But so, what the doctors

(04:25):
have decided to do for me, because this immune therapy
has hit me so incredibly hard, is they are going
They did a bunch of scans and everything's looking good.
Everything's shrinking. They're not seeing a bunch but so it's
showing that why I medically feel so sick is from

(04:45):
the immunotherapy. So we're going to take a little break
on the immunotherapy to get my body back feeling stronger.
And I'm on steroids and we're doing everything that we
can to get me back to feeling like I, you know,
I can do this, I can do all the things,
and I think as listeners is, and I don't want

(05:07):
to fill your guys feed with cancer, you know, like
I know that that can be a depressing topic, but
I also want if you're going through something like this,
things are going to change and that's okay. The hardest
thing for me has been kind of the wake up
call of wow, I can't do what I did yesterday,
or Wow, I can't do what I did three weeks ago,

(05:28):
or for me today, wow I woke up and I'm
still shaking and stuff, but I have a lot of
energy today. Like in my mind, I'm like, I probably
could have done the pod today, which is why I'm
here talking to you guys right now.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
So that's essentially what's going on.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
I'm going to keep in close contact with all of
my different doctors and just take a little hold and
see if we can get my body more in check
so that I can be a touch more physically stable
to do the things that I want to do. Because
I think something I don't talk about often on the
pod is it's not just me that cancer's life has changed.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
It's changed my kid's life. It's changed my relationship with Edwin.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
You know.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Yeah, you guys all know that we were filing for divorce.
Nothing's changed in that other than that we're on hold
because of what's happening to me medically. But he's had
to step in and help me because I some days
can't do it. And that's I've never in my adult

(06:33):
life been in a situation where I'm like, gosh, I
can't do this right now. I can't stay up that
extra hour and put my kid to bed tonight, I
can't go to my daughter's horse show, or oh my gosh,
I'm going to have to miss cruise this practice. I've
never once felt that way until recently, and it's it's heartbreaking.

(06:57):
And I want you to know, if you're a single
pay or even if you're in a marriage, or even
if you're in the middle of a divorce like me,
we all hear you, and we know that there are
good days and there are bad days. And I think
the best part is that we share so that we
know that we're not alone through all this. Like I mean,
even Matt told me is one of his good friends.
He's like, she's not immune therapy and she's you know,

(07:20):
she's feeling great, and then I grill them about it.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
I'm like, how long was she on? What was the bubble?
You know, Like, all we're doing.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Is craving informations, and sometimes you're not going to be
able to get that from the doctor. You're going to
be able to get that from other people who have struggled,
who are struggling with this. So that's the first thing.
So thank you guys so much. My next appointment with
my doctor is tomorrow, and then we kind of just
go from there. And then right now they're just trying
to figure out my medications, which I'm hoping is the

(07:48):
reason for the sheiks.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
Do you want to clarify just for people who still
are maybe confused as to what this means specifically for
your tumors and the actual cancer. Everything is still shrinking
and you are still in a positive trajectory, correctly, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Yeah, so this is all still a positive trajectory minus
me not feeling well, but it's still positive when it
comes to my tumors, because my tumors are still shrinking
and some areas you can't even see them at all.
And what I didn't realize is that immunis therapy is
in your system for months and months and months, So

(08:25):
my immunotherapy is still working even if I don't get
that new dose which was supposed to be tomorrow, so
that it's not this isn't for a reason of concern.
It's not me quitting. I mean, if it was up
to me, I'd have been like, let's just power down
and keep going. But he was like, you know, my
doctors like, the beautiful thing about immune therapy is we

(08:46):
can track you and we can see how you're doing
and your body can handle being off of it for
a minute and then we might need to put you
back on it. But that way we can track you
and it's not like a chemo where it's just this.
This is this is how it goes, no matter what
it's black and white. It's not like that with this.
So we're really working with a team of people to

(09:09):
try to get me as healthy as possible and try
and get me back to feeling like myself, because.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
You know I do. I love this job so much.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
I love being able to recap with every single one
of the people that come on with me. I love
our producers that give us ideas and funny thoughts, and
it's scary and I feel less than on the days
that I can't show up and be here for you guys,
because it's something I look forward to so much. And

(09:38):
so yeah, I mean, don't y'all worry for one second.
I already watched The Valley, I watched I watched Real
Housewives of.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Orange County.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Like I'm going to be there, and I'm hoping that
next week I'll be feeling a million times better and
I'll be able to rea cap the current episodes. But
in the meantime, I'm really loving that we're keeping everybody
up to date because also selfishly, it makes it a
lot easier for me because a lot of things that
people don't know about, you know, these brain tumors and

(10:14):
having stage four cancer. As your memory goes a little bit,
and I've been trying to shield it as much as
I can. But coming on and trying to recap five
past episodes is very difficult for me. So I want
to come on fresh. I want to come on good,
and I want to come in with my strong you know,

(10:36):
sometimes good sometimes bad opinions.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
But yeah, so I just want to say real quick
before we move on to the other thing you need
to talk about is that you have built this community
and the outpouring of love and support is so beyond
anything that you even I think are aware of, because
you know, we all are getting in in different places,
just the love for you. And I know you get

(11:00):
in your DMS and you probably get a thousand messages,
but just everyone's rooting for you, and it's you. People
want these updates because you are someone who everyone knows
is just an open book and is continuously just wanting
to provide information and be as open and upfront with
things as possible. So I think the more information that
you want to give people, people are absorbing it and

(11:21):
they're grateful for it, and they're rooting for you.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
And and I think, you know, people see you see
something online or you see an image of something like
so many people and thank you, thank you. I may
not have responded because it's very hard for me to
respond to text and to on Instagram, but I'm trying
to keep up as much as i can, but it's

(11:43):
not the best. But the day that I did the
Glamour magazine with Kyle, the day that was released, you know,
I think and if.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
You guys haven't read it.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
It's actually pretty incredible in the stories that me and
Kyle are able to share, and I think you'll get
a lot from that. So if you go to Lamor magazine,
you can listen or watch me and Kyle kind of
talk about our friendship and talk about what it's what
cancer has made me feel like. But that day, everybody

(12:13):
was like, oh my gosh, Teddy, you look so beautiful,
you look so strong, you look like you're on top
of the world. And I remember that day laying up
in a ball before going calling Kyle and Jin and going,
if one of you guys don't pick me up, I
can't even be in a car service. I'm too embarrassed,
like I'm not doing well. I can't do this today.

(12:34):
And they're like, Okay, if you can't do it, we'll
cancel it. And I'm like, I don't want to cancel it.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
It's Glamor magazine. If they never asked me again.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
And they look like a model, they.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Made me look like I can't. But that's my point.
You know, like you see a lot and you think
that this means everything's okay. But if you're feeling like
I'm feeling right now, I got you know, I got you.
I understand this is hard.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Yeah, and everyone loves you and everyone is here for you.
You know, not to move on to another traumatic instance,
but so many people want to know what in the

(13:23):
hell happened at your house that broke in the news.
If you want to just shed a little light on that,
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Well, to give you guys a little backstory for those
of you who don't live in Los Angeles, about a
week or two ago, there was a couple who lives
kind of nearby me who were murdered in their home
and they were not home and they arrived home and
then were murdered by somebody who was breaking and entering

(13:52):
into their house. So everybody in the area where I live,
we've all been pretty diligent about making I'm sure we're
on top of it because this area is being hit
more than most. Because this is actually something I learned
yesterday is that in Ensino.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
There wasn't as many.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Police respondents because it's down so much. In La County,
in La County is normally being hit so much, So
it's just really, you know, it can be a scary time.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
So you have to be diligent with your family or kids.
We were home.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
For people confuse when I say we, Edwin lives downstairs.
He is helping taking care of me and the kids.
I'm in my room upstairs, but I am not in
a position where I can be by myself. And this
is one of those moments. I'm so be ungrateful because

(14:57):
we had I can't remember if it was I guess
it was maybe two nights ago. We had somebody come
and try to break into the house. We have all
the videos. You can go on my Instagram and you
can see the videos of people, you know, trying to
break into my home. My kids are home, I'm home.

(15:18):
Somebody named Betty that lives with us, she's home, Like
we're all here, and there was like all this noise
moving around and different things happening. And that's when we
saw the bright light, which was a Skyline security cam
go off outside.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
And that's when we heard.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Running and we go and we look down and we
see a bunch of guys running off. At that point
in time, Edwin is already on the phone with nine
to one one like that's why I'm like, guys, you
have to set your security systems. You have to make
sure that all your doors are closed. You have to
make sure that you do all these things now more

(15:57):
than ever. But Edwin's already on the phone with nine
one one, and they were over here in a matter
of minutes. They came through. I put all the kids
in the room with me, and they went through and
they looked and checked each room to make sure that
nobody entered the house. And thankfully we were all safe

(16:18):
and good. But like I mean, we're kind of we're
shaken up around here. It's scary, and like even watching
the videos of I mean, on the video to me
that I saw, it looked like it was three guys,
but I mean, everybody's so covered up you can't really tell.
And I think that they broke into the house two
houses down as well. And then yesterday I could not

(16:40):
that I really leave my house, not often anyway, but
I couldn't even leave my house because there was so
much news here. And I know that everybody's extra diligent
right now because of what happened down the street. And
I appreciate all of the support that we've had, but
just you guys, you have to be beyond diligent and
safe for yourselves, for your family, and also being able

(17:03):
to have those hard conversations with your kids. We are safe,
we are okay, and then those like morbid thoughts of
like it's.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Just so much.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
Well, kudos to the Encino Police Force for showing up
so quickly and just catch them efforts. That's how That's
all we need.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
Yeah, well that and we got to give a shout
out Scott in Security, Edminriave.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Home security guys.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
And guys, and to the people that have written Teddy
quit looking for attention. You're doing this on purpose. No
one in the right mind would do this on purpose.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
And don't even that.

Speaker 5 (17:45):
And then people are like, oh, you're just like so
and so and so and so who used to be
on housewives And you know, I'm like, we weren't robbed,
somebody attempted to come into our home.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
Who knows what would have happened. But I I think.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
Saying that even in passing, it's hurtful, like we're all scared.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
It's ridiculous. People on provincially online just are yes, it's
noise that you need to ignore. You don't need that
extra noise in your life.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Just effit.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
You and your kids are safe. Everything's great on that
end is there anything else you want to say before
we wrap.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
No, I just want to say I love you guys.
I appreciate you. Any questions that you have. If I
don't respond quickly. Just now, you'll be able to find
Matt more easily. Since he's down the pod. You can
find into his DMS and he'll get right on back
to you today. What did I try to teach myself?
Did you notice with my long text coming through? I

(18:47):
tried to teach myself how to do the long text
without it being audio.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
That was a mistake.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
You taught yourself to thumbs up tap back, which I
don't enjoy because I was like, oh shit, she's mad
it'd be today.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Oh that was Slate. I don't even know what she
was doing.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
Oh boy, I got to watch what I text you now.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
The Slate's hoping out. But I am listening talking to
all of you guys.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
And it's been some good, juicy episode since I've been gone.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
Yeah, And if you want to watch any scripted shows,
I've watched a couple and My and My Sadness Untamed,
so good, Sullivan's Canyon so good, Paradise amazed.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
And when I say paradise, I'm not meaning it, I
know it's so good. Well, anyways, we're closing out, but
hopefully i'll be back next week and I will talk
to you then. And thank you so much, Matt, love you,
