Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into Unbreakable Mental Wealth Podcast with Jay Lazer. I'm
Jay Lazer, and today is a mental health check in,
but it's a mental health check in for all veterans
out there. I'm a moral day and several years ago
when I first started MARGI vets and players. The very
first Memorial Day we had. We're in a group, it's

(00:21):
probably a fifty of us, and I asked our veterans,
what are you guys doing to celebrate this weekend for
Memorial Day? And they all got mad at me. Did
this for a reason? And they kind of jumped me, like,
what do you mean so we don't celebrate? This is
when we lost our boys, this is when we lost
our sisters. I said, I know, so what are you
doing to celebrate them? They kind of looked like what

(00:42):
I said, why are you not celebrating them? You think
they want you sit home drinking, maybe possibly thinking about
doing something worse, or do you think they want to
be celebrated. Let's celebrate them In the moment they said that,
the room started a shift and I said, gay, when
I die, no one's wearing black. Yo are celebrating me.

(01:04):
We're gotta have fun. Tell crazy glay stories, same with them.
Let's celebrate them and it's beautiful. The idea then came up,
you know what, let's actually take up a hike together
a Memorial Day and get closer. Hike up mountain, get
closer our brothers and sisters, if you will. And that's
what we started doing. And then the next Memorial Day

(01:27):
or two after that, our group actually went to the
cemetery here in Los Angeles and they started walking to
other family members of veterans and veterans in there, saying,
who are you celebrating today? And they got the same
reaction back initially, but then it became, oh, wait, let's help.
We'd like to help you celebrate them. And then really

(01:48):
it was almost like, oh, yeah, you're right, Marvee not
celebrating them. So I know it's tough because we did
lose our brothers and sisters this day, but let's also
honor them a Memorial Day by celebrating them. They deserve it.
Let's keep walking this walk together

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
