Speaker 1 (00:02):
The search for the unicorn. Oliver and his family lived
in the rainforest. His parents were rainforest ecologists, spending their
days researching all sorts of creatures like tucns, tree frogs,
and even jaguars. These were all fine by Oliver, but
he was on the hunt for something more interesting. Mom,

(00:24):
did you see that rainbow in the sky this morning,
Oliver asked at breakfast, Yes, I did, Honey. Isn't it
amazing what the sun and rain can do together? His
mom answered, Oliver told me it was from a unicorn.
Oliver's little brother, Theo, said, excitedly, wouldn't that be something?

(00:45):
Mom smiled at Dad, happy with how imaginative their boys were.
Oliver knew his parents didn't believe that there were really
unicorns in the rainforest, but he did, and he was
going to find one. After breakfast, Oliver packed his backpack
with unicorn finding essentials. He had his magnifying glass to

(01:05):
search the ground for traces of glitter, his binoculars to
search the sky for more rainbows, and two bags of
marshmallows because everyone knows unicorns love marshmallows. All packed up
with the essentials, he headed out into the rainforest Oliver listened.
He heard the breeze blowing through the trees above. He

(01:27):
took a few more steps ahead and sniffed. He smelt
the deep, earthy scent of the wet ground. He continued walking,
listening and smelling while looking around trees. Bush is dirt.
That's all I can see, Oliver said to himself. He
took out his magnifying glass and began searching the path
for glitter. He saw ants. He saw shiny pebbles, but

(01:51):
no glitter. He continued wandering. By now he was starting
to get hungry. He opened up one of the packs
of marshmallows and popped one in his mouth. Oliver took
out the binoculars and scanned the greenery around him green, brown, green, green, green.
He popped another marshmallow in his mouth as he continued listening.

(02:14):
Off the very limited color palette around him, brown, green, rainbow, rainbow.
Oliver saw the swish of a rainbow tail disappear behind
a bush up ahead. He ran to catch up and
saw a trail of glitter around the bush. A unicorn.
I knew it. He pumped his fist in the air

(02:34):
with excitement. He ran off in the direction he saw
the colorful tail disappear to you. The glitter trail lasted
a little bit longer before fading into the dirt path.
Oh man, he thought he had lost his lead when
he looked up and saw rainbow in the trees ahead.
That's why the glitter trail stopped. The unicorn leaped into
the air. Oliver followed the rainbow as it reached higher

(02:57):
and higher above the rainforest floor, and then lower and
lower back down to it. He had reached the other side,
but there is no unicorn waiting there. He sat down
and took a rust next to the end of the rainbow.
Still hungry, Oliver popped another marshmallow into his mouth. A
voice spoke from over his shoulder. Can I have one?

(03:20):
Oliver jumped a few feet in the air and turned around.
There right in front of him was a real live unicorn.
It had a rainbow made and tail with a glittering
green body. No wonder it blended in so well. Besides
its hair, the rest of it became one with the
rainforest at first glance. Even its horn was a beautiful

(03:40):
brown that blended into the surrounding trees. The unicorn tried again,
Can I have a marshmallow please. Oliver realized he was
staring and remembered the bag in his hand. Oh, of
course I brought them for you. He poured the bag
on the ground so the unicorn could graze through them
all naum num num. The unicorn ate them all up,

(04:02):
its colors glowing brighter with each one. I love marshmallows,
They're my favorite, exclaimed the unicorn. When it was done,
its tail shook and glitter flew all around them. I
knew i'd find you. My parents didn't believe you existed.
Of course I exist. What kind of world would it
be without unicorns? The unicorn looks stricken at the thought.

(04:26):
Who do they think puts the rainbows in the sky?
Oliver remembered the conversation over breakfast rain drops in sunshine.
The unicorn laughed, certainly not. And what about the perfectly
fluffy clouds in the sky. I suppose they think water
made those? Two? Well, yes, responded Oliver, Well I never.

(04:52):
The unicorn was at a loss for words. Now then
it sounds like it was really important for you to
find me. You must tell your about me at once.
Oliver nodded his head. Yes, I brought a camera so
I can prove it to them. Say geez. The unicorn
winned and gave the most dazzling smile anyone had ever seen.

(05:13):
Oliver took the camera away and thanked the unicorn. I
can't wait to get back and show them this picture.
I knew you were real, Oliver said again. He turned
to head back when the unicorn spoke again, just one
more thing before you leave, Oliver stopped. Yes, do you
have any more marshmallows? Oliver laughed and tossed the back

(05:34):
to the unicorn. Buy, unicorn, I'll bring you some more marshmallows. Again.
The unicorn brayed happily in response, and Oliver ran back
to his family, so excited to show them that unicorns
were real. Mom, Dad, I found a unicorn and I
took a picture of him. Look. Oliver took out the
camera with the picture of the unicorn on it. Mom

(05:57):
and Dad squinted closely, trying to see what Oliver was
showing them. I'm glad you had fun today, dear. What
a great imagination you have seeing a unicorn in this
ray of sunshine. Oliver was confused what He pulled the
camera back to have a look there where there should
have been a sparkly green unicorn with a brown horn

(06:17):
and rainbow hair. Was a big, shiny sun ray, taking
up almost all of the picture. Mom, Dad, I swear
I saw unicorn. They're in this picture. Oliver's mom kissed
him on the head. Okay, that sounds very fun. I
love your imagination. He could tell she didn't believe him. Sighing,

(06:38):
he went back to his room and plopped down. His
little brother, Theo, cuddled up beside him. I believe you, Oliver.
Can you take me to see the unicorn next time?
Oliver smiled and gave his little brother a hug. Of course, buddy,
you meat and plenty of marshmallows.
