Here we go.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Now it's time to check in with Cuffs, the legend
from some dude show podcast on up on Game Presents.
Cuffs is giving you a spicy takes on what's going down.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
You can take the heat like.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Lebron And now here's Cuffs the legend.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
It's gotown.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
Lazy all right. So that is Cuffs the legend. It
is the man, the myth, the legend from some dude show.
I gotta say, Man, spicy takes. I mean that might
be an understatement for the blasphemy that came out of
your face on social media this past week. I want

(03:21):
to jump right to it, Cuffs. I mean, I'm gonna say,
I'm gonna ask you, how are you doing? Because you're
our brother, and you're our brother in Christ obviously, and
and he is our lord behavior but but he he
needed to touch your mind and your heart because you
were saying some wild stuff out your mouth. But but
before we get to that, how you doing, brother, how

(03:41):
you how you feeling?

Speaker 6 (03:42):
Man?

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Well, first of all, you were supposed to start with
I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
You're right.

Speaker 6 (03:48):
Eighty degrees is eighty degrees here. The sky is Duke
blue today because yeah due Blue. John Shire's Blue are
going to win the Natural Championship this weekend. So it's
a great day. Man, how y'all doing. But I mean,
answer your question, Jo Kic.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Know where we're going?

Speaker 6 (04:10):
Yeah? So after that, I mean.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
You're taking Nicola Jokic over O'Neill. You're wrong, man, You're wrong.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
He drunk.

Speaker 6 (04:18):
Hey, you're wrong. I was that kid. My first time
watching Shack, I was in the barbershop when he played
for l s U. I was watching that game. It
was it was Stanley Roberts. That's what Chris Jackson before
he changed his name to Mark mood abdul Rod. That
LSU team with Shack, they went against Georgia Tech Kenny Andersons.
Some throwback names they had, Brian Oliver, Dennis Scott that

(04:41):
you remember that team they faced each other. That's when
I became a fan of Shack. And I remember the
Blue Chips movie came out. He was neon Budou. We
saw we saw Shack, the young Shack, Orlando Shack, Laker.
Shack is the prime Shack you would all agree that
prime Shack is Laker.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
Shack right, unstop is unstoppable sh is Lakers. Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (05:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
So at that and there's still there were still some
guys that was was teaching a team to dream, was
was teaching while he was still in Orlando. There was
still some teachable moments. But he became an un unstoppable
force in LA. But go ahead, go ahead, I do
what you said.

Speaker 6 (05:18):
Back at that time, I thought Shack. I never would
see another player that's more dominant than Shaq, not just physically,
but the mental aspect of the game. And that's why
I look at with Jokic. I mean, he's averaging thirty points,
twelve point eight rebounds, and ten point two assist. The
passing and the playmaking. I feel like it's what sets

(05:39):
him apart and makes him like your Peyton Man and
Tom Brady on the basketball court because he's doing all
of this stuff, all of these great numbers. I've just
said to y'all, all of these triple doubles. We saw
the sixty one point triple double. No player in NBA
history has had a triple double scoring that many points.
And it looks like he's playing against little kids in
the driveway. But the most impressive thing, and I've said

(06:01):
this on Instagram recently the other day, he's doing all
of this without any muscles. He's not in shape at all.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Man, he can be able to jump over packing now leaders.

Speaker 6 (06:13):
Yeah, he's like he has the athleticism of like Zach Randolph,
Like this is like Zach Randolph athleticism. But nobody can
stop this guy. And I just feel like we got
to at least have the conversation. I think it's a
great matchup.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
This is why you gotta love This is why you
gotta love the Joker. Because somebody was interviewing and they
asked him, well, why are you so good? He said,
I don't know, he said. He said, I'm fat, I'm slow,
I can't jump, and I can't run. And that made
me have a more of appreciation for him understanding his
abilities in this skill level of who he is as

(06:49):
a player. He knows it, he understands it because he's
the most unathletic probably big man that we've seen. I
know that I've seen for him, dude, the way that
he dominates basketball games and makes these guys who had
what these thirty forty inch vertical six eighty sixty nine
height makes them look athletically. It's absolutely phenomenal. Man to

(07:12):
sit back and watch this man go about his body work.
I'm not saying he's a better basketball player than shot.
He not.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
But what I'm saying is the man is unstoppable. Hey,
do you guys take into account this though? If you
breathe on somebody, it's a foul. If you just touch somebody,
just starting a foul. Like, let's just be honest. You
can't do like nobody wants. The NBA referees or by fighter,
worst referees in professional sports. These dudes are awful. Like

(07:42):
nobody wants to watch a game one hundred and forty
seven to one hundred and forty. Nobody wants to watch
that one and thirty one twenty six. Like that's not
that man, that's a free for all.

Speaker 6 (07:54):
Just go score, TJ. I just thinking the pantheon or
big men like the Bill Russell. We never got a
chance to see Bill. We never got a chance to
see Wild Chamberlain. But I saw a team Olajah want
and him and Shack had their wars. David Robinson, you
just throw in all those big men and they would.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
Have destroyed Jokic. They would have destroyed Jokic. It's a
different it's the idea. It's the idea of what do
you what do you want? Do you want a more
focused scope of work or do you want a more
versatile scope of work? Just because Joel embiid or or
Jokic would be able to go outside and shoot it

(08:32):
from outside or make better passes, Jokic makes better passes,
that's fine, But what about the defensive side of the ball.
Jokic doesn't even begin to compare to those guys on
the defensive side of the ball. I'll throw Patrick Ewing
into the conversation.

Speaker 7 (08:46):
A.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Like guys would push you off the box. You push
somebody off the box. Now it's a it's a foul.
It's a foul.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
It was.

Speaker 5 (08:56):
It was three four dudes trying to tackle Shaquillo Neil
while he was trying to go.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
I don't want to discredit it, not call. I don't
want to discrediting I'm not.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
More dominant.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
He's just not like Shock. That's it. Listen, you guys
are making very valid points.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
I don't see Joker walking on the basketball court and
dominating attimpt Duncan either.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
I just don't know that it's a power forward, right,
is more like a power forward if you ask me,
he's more like I would look at him as why
not why not throw him in the same conversation as
a Durant? Why not throw him in the same conversation
as a why are we? Why are we separating in
from those guys? Because he shows a skill set that's

(09:43):
more on par with those dudes than.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
See Yeah, game as well, Dirk wasn't.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
As much of a facilitator as as Jokic is either,
though he was more of a score.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Before I get to the Lakers, I had we had
this conversation.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
I believe two weeks ago, Dude, two weeks ago, everybody
was saying that SGA has locked up the MVP based
off of the past two weeks. What everybody's saying, what
do you think is who is the favorite in the
MVP race right now?

Speaker 6 (10:21):
If you look, if you look at the OS right now,
it's like plus two thousand for SGA. So SGA is
gonna win it because the voters, they know they screwed
him last year. He got robbed last year. Everybody know
he should have won it last year. So SGA is
going to win in but if I'm a voter, it
will be tough because Jokics numbers this year are better
than the previous times. He won NBB already, and if

(10:42):
you just look at the numbers side by Sock in
parison with SGA, yet they have new different roles on
her team. They're two different type of players, two different positions.
Worst case scenario, I wouldn't be mad at the co MVP,
but I still would feel like.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
SGA would be here cuffs. Let me ask you this though,
but you can't continue you know, I'm not saying you,
I'm talking the voters and the people. You can't continue
to move the goal post because at one point it
was the MVP for the most part went to the
best player on the best team for the most part.
So now when the narrative fits, oh, we the fourth

(11:14):
to fifth seed, but he's having what happened to the
Oh you can't. You got to be one of the
top two teams to be the m v P.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
So certain people I don't agree with that. That's not true.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
I mean Westbrook won the m v P when his
team I believed. I think the Oklahoma City was the
sixth seed. But for the most part, it's been the
best player on the best team.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
That's exactly what it's been.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Would you agree.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
He Al was the best basketball player, He was the
best basket play on his team, but they were the.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Best team in the NBA.

Speaker 6 (11:50):
Now we solved this problem TJ with the voters and
voters fatigue and all for these voters is we come
up with some type of database, the track that they
actually watch the basketball games every night because a lot
of these voters. I ain't gonna say none of y'all names,
but y'all don't want basketball every night. You watch highlights
and then you get in here and you rob these

(12:11):
guys with their legacies because you watch the highlights on
YouTube the next morning instead of watching games. So it's
a lot of narratives. It's a lot of bad narratives
that run around. People make up things about this player
to give them this perception or he can't do this,
and he can't do that. And the voters have all
the power, and I think they should be held to
a standard and held accountable because the voters mess it up.
A lot of times. We've seen Lebron get robbed for MVPs.

(12:34):
We've seen We've seen Jannis win one. He could have win.
He could have Yann should be in the conversation this year.
We're being honest.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Ain't nobody listen to me.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
His team, his team, it's his team, the mill it's
his team. I'm telling you, it's his team. They're not good.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
If the conference you don't want to play a healthy well,
Dame's not there, man, Listen, he's out.

Speaker 5 (12:57):
The Bucks are, Yeah, but your team plays a part
and you getting that award in the NBA.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Hey, let's shift gears. Let's get to the real meeting potatoes. Uh,
let's just die right in because that's what I do. Uh, Paul,
you know, just for eight hours ago, you guys lost
to the UH, to the to the Go to State Warriors.
I told you that they Go to State Warriors have
been playing different basketball since the addition of Jimmy Jimmy Butler.

(13:33):
And there's a possibility the Lakers are on the three set,
three seeds right in the round they will play Minnesota Timberwolves.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
With that being said, there's.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
A possibility that the Los Angeles Lakers may not win
another basketball game for the rest of the year.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
If you go.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Money, go to Okay, you played Oklahoma, that money, that money,
that money. You go to Dallas bat money, and the
Houston Rockers are and he's with the Portland Trail Blazer
bat money.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
Plaxico, Plasic, Honey, Where are y'all getting victories from in
the next five games?

Speaker 3 (14:14):
Can you bet you want to bat money? Are y'all
gonna sweep okac You want to bat money?

Speaker 5 (14:19):
Are y'all.

Speaker 6 (14:22):
Look speaking of meat and potatoes flat, speaking of meat
and potatoes, steaking potatoes. Luca Donna's been eating too much.
He'd been eating many potatoes, too many cars. That's the
problem right now with the Lakers. I see Austin Breeze
is bringing it. You've seen them. He had a thirty ball.
He Austin rees is looking like an All Star now.
Lebron we saw last night. Lebron is bringing it right.

(14:42):
Lebron's starting to ramp up. Luka Donnas has to deliver
on the promise. I'm speaking for Laker fans. Because you
traded away Anthony Davis, and you saw that Warriors game
the other night. The Lakers no longer have the advantage
when they play the Warriors because a d made that
series of mismatch because of his side, his agility, He
can block shots, he can switch out on step. He

(15:04):
was the ultimate chess piece for the Lakers. Now they
don't have that. So what I am saying is this,
the pressure is on Luca Donna's these playoffs to deliver
for the Laker fan base and for hisself because we
saw the trade. It was a blind side. He was
blindsided by it. He is adjusted now he got to
bring his a game because the margin and era is
slim because the Lakers do not have a center.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
You're talking about, Luca Doncis in the playoffs. What I'm
saying is that you're playing the Oklahoma City Thunder. They
gonna back you back in Lexico. Do you want to
put money on it we win the game.

Speaker 5 (15:37):
I'm not, I'm not.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
I'm not a betting man.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
Teas.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
Yes you are, Yes you are.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
What I'm saying is that the Oklahoma City Thunder the
best team in basketball.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
They are.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
We're gonna find out tomorrow, and we're gonna find out Tuesday,
and y'all walk is our pushover.

Speaker 6 (15:54):
I am with you, Pa, and you have to go
to Dallas.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
And win that game.

Speaker 6 (16:00):
If the eight. I'm with you. Play the Lakers are
going to get bludgeoned tomorrow and tuesday by okay see,
and that's what I'm trying to tell you.

Speaker 4 (16:09):
You're only one game ahead of the Golden State Warriors
and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
You don't want to go from three to six.

Speaker 6 (16:19):
You don't, Yeah, you don't. You don't want to do
that right now?

Speaker 5 (16:21):
Wow, Wow, with a pause. Let's hit a pause right there.
Let's take a deep breath. Let's take a sip of
water or whatever it is. You're having orange juice, you're
having coffee, whatever it is you're having Perrier water, I
don't know what it is, but take a sip of it,
take a deep breath. Here's what we're going to do.
We want to bring Cuffs the Legend back for another

(16:41):
segment of the show because it just doesn't get done
in one.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
With this dude.

Speaker 5 (16:46):
As you can see, we just got a really really
barbershop style it Woodcuffs the Legend man. We take off
the gloves, you know, we take off the whole professional
radio deal garb, and we just get right to it,
as y'all can see. And we're going to continue that
on We're gonna take a quick break. This is Up
on Game. This is Fox Sports Radio. It's Cuffs the Legend,
It's TJ. Huschman Zada, It's Plexico Burst. I'm LeVar Arrington.

(17:09):
We'll be right back Fox Sports Radio. All right, welcome
back in to Up on Game. We're live from the
Tyraq dot com studio and listen. You want to keep
it calm, you want to keep it cool, get rid
of the chaos with shipping software that delivers all right,

(17:30):
that is using code sports to obviously be able to
use the shipping software the right way. Ship station is
the software I'm talking about. I had a little bit
of a brain fart right there, so apologize to y'all.
You get a free trial at shipstation dot com. Make

(17:50):
sure you check out shipstation dot com and use code sports.
That's that's what I want to tell y'all. Y'all want
to keep it calm, keep it cool on the shipping software.
That's a Anyways, I have my moment, and speaking of
having moments, hopefully I loo have a better moment during
the update than I just did doing that read and.

Speaker 7 (18:06):
Which again possibly it'd been virtually impossible not to no offense.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
I love it.

Speaker 7 (18:11):
I mean, not even Sinatra could hit every note, that's true.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
But maybe people didn't know when he missed it though.
You know, y'all clearly saw me miss right there. But
that's all right. A shooter is going to shoot, you
know what I mean, that's right though until I make them.

Speaker 7 (18:24):
So you guys talking to the expert, and I'll tell
you what. We'll delete that from the podcast for you.
Thank you, sir, Thanks anytime.

Speaker 6 (18:29):
Hey.

Speaker 7 (18:29):
Basketball Hall of Fame class of twenty twenty five officially
announced earlier today, consisting of the following Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard,
Billy Donovan, Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Sylvia Foles, referee Danny Crawford,
Miami Heat owner Mickey Arrison, as well as the two
thousand and eight US Olympic men's basketball team. The Final

(18:49):
four tips off this evening from San Antonio, leading off
at six oh nine Eastern, it's Florida against Auburn. That
at eight forty nine Eastern Houston takes on duke of
the women's Final four. On Friday night, South Carolina defeated
Texas seventy four to fifty seven. That was yukon over
UCLA by thirty four points, eighty five to fifty one.
So that'll be South Carolina against Yukon for the National

(19:10):
Championship tomorrow at.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
Three pm Eastern.

Speaker 7 (19:13):
In Major League Baseball, the Arizona Diamondbacks today placed All
Stars second baseman kateel Marte on the ten day injured
list with a strained left hamstring. One game going on
right now in Detroit, the Tigers and Chicago White Sox
now tied to one in the bottom half of the
first inning.

Speaker 5 (19:29):
Guys, back to you, appreciate it, I loo, and enjoy
your day, sir. Let's continue this conversation with Kuffs.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
The legend.

Speaker 5 (19:41):
I stopped you, guys because we needed to take a
quick breather and a quick break. But you know, ding ding,
you know sessions back in go how y'all. I mean,
where were we at with what we were discussing, Cuffs?

Speaker 4 (19:55):
I mean now that we you know, you know level,
you know, playing field. I'm just looking at the schedule
for the Lakers, and I'm saying that for the next
five games, there are very tough basketball games that they
have to play. I don't think I've ever seen in
the NBA that I can remember that two teams play

(20:21):
back to back, they play each other back to back
in their own respective home arenas. So I think they
just got a bad draw with the end of this schedule,
because I don't think nobody really expected to Houstion Rockets
be there where they are right now. They're not an
easy win and we all know who the OKC thunder

(20:43):
are and that just happens to be three of your
last five games. And I'm just saying that at the
three spot, it can get really interesting in the next week.
Being that they're only one game ahead of the go
the Saint Warriors, who are playing great basketball right now,
I would be afraid of the Golden State Warriors in

(21:05):
the seven game series right now.

Speaker 6 (21:07):
The Warriors are twenty and two when Jimmy Butler and
Steph Curry are on the court together, man, And I'm
not gonna lie to y'all. I've always talked junk the
Warriors fans, like I said, where Anthony Davis and Lebron
were the duo. But watching that matchup the other night,
it's a lot closer than people realize because Jimmy Butler

(21:28):
has put a battery in the back of Steph Curry
Draymond has always been the engines, that team and the
voice in the locker room. But Jimmy gives them an
extra boost, like an extra security guard. Steph feels real confident.
Now you're seeing Steph doing the shimmys. But to answer
your question about the Okay See games back to back,
that's a new thing that the NBA started doing, like

(21:49):
the last year or two. These Yeah, these back to
backs in the same city. I'm not a fan of it,
but I think at the same time that the thought
process was giving the guys some extra rest without happen
to do that extra travel, stay in the same city
extra night. That's cool. Nobody wants to be in Oka
See for longer than two days though, So I said,
the Lakers take these two l's. Take these two l's

(22:11):
because they're gonna be l's. I feel like, because okay see,
we've seen them lately. They did lose to the Rockets
last night, but like you said, the Rockets are a
tough team to play because they have young legs and
Dylan Brooks. Yet, like, now, what I don't want to
see happen is the Lakers limping to Dallas and you
got Anthony Davis sitting there ready for that revenge, just

(22:33):
to knock y'all down a couple seeds, you know. And
I feel like AD gonna be really hyped up. AD
is gonna be juiced up. Anthony Davis's gonna be juiced
up for that Lakers game if he plays the game.
So you're right, you're looking at going on a three
game losing streak potentially if you lose to OKAC twice,
if you lose to the Mavericks, that's gonna be a
tough game. Then you got to go to Houston. And
I forgot who the last game they played.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
The last game is in Portland.

Speaker 6 (22:57):
It's like Portland, Yes, Portland. So Portland really hard. Though
Chauncey Billis has those young boys playing hard out there,
Shadon Sharpens playing well. School Henerson's starting there, He's starting
to look a lot better. So, like I said, there's
no easy wins now. So you could look up at
the end of the eighty two game season and be
what sixteed sevente. I don't know, Man, Laco, man should

(23:17):
be worried because they at the end of the day plaque.
They don't have a big man to combat some of
these teams. So Luca, like I said earlier earlier, Luca
is gonna have to play out of his mind. Him
and Reeves and Lebron, They're gonna have to be on
the A game. There's no margin for era.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
Now, we were talking about the tush push and the
competition committee discussing and debating that they put it on
the table for another time a later date. I gotta
bring this one up because I was messing with you
about it. I was messing with you in our group
chat about it. Will there ever be a conversation about

(23:53):
this euro step and beyond? I feel like the euro
step and beyond because now you got to say euro
and beyond. Now, I mean, imagine if a Shaquille O'Neill
didn't have to dribble the ball and could just pick
up the ball take five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven,
twelve steps to get to the rim. And there's not

(24:14):
a traveling call. First of all, is there's still traveling
being called? Like how do you still call travel And
if you're calling traveling, how do you justify the eurostep
and euro step plus versus just the euro step.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Where it was?

Speaker 5 (24:30):
I guess originally intended for that extra one step to
be able to clear somebody and then go to the rim.
Where are we at with this cuffs, Like, honestly, give
me some real perspective on this euro step and it's
traveling and not needing to dribble the ball anymore.

Speaker 6 (24:47):
Well, Well, my background, like I have a player development background,
like I had my own gym. That's what I do.
People don't realize that I did this for a long
time grass rooms, training kids. I always taught kids at
a young age. You teaching those moves, but at the
same time, at every level they apply. So the euro
step in high school, they're gonna call that a travel
a lot of times because you've got these old referees

(25:07):
that don't watch current basketball referee in high school games.
So I think it's good to teach these moves, these
these different gather steps because that gather step rule is
tricky because in the European game it's allowed. In the
NBA game, it's allowed, but the gather step is not
allowed in college basketball. So what happens is a lot
of these high school prospects that go to college, they're

(25:28):
still training with NBA level trainers and they're teaching them
the James Harden moves. They're teaching them the tool box
the Kyrie has. But you see them struggle in college
sometimes because they're gonna call that stuff. Or you're gonna
take three steps on your spind move, They're gonna call
that in college. So it's all about the player's IQ
knowing what you can kind of get away with. But
on the funny side, it is funny seeing like certain

(25:49):
NBA guys catch your ball at half court and take
like four steps before they dribble, and the referees, the
referees just look at them like, depending on your star power,
the pending on your star power, we may or may
not call that a travel because I think a lot
of it does come down to star power. Like a rookie.
Rookie is not gonna get the same benefit of the
doubt with the whistle with travel and violations, and as

(26:13):
you know, a veteran would. So it's still funny to see.
But we the referees can never they can never get
it right.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
Bad cuffs. What's wrong? Bro? What is wrong with this dude?
Job Morant?

Speaker 5 (26:28):
What is wrong? Man?

Speaker 6 (26:30):
I'm glad you brought it up.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
Man.

Speaker 6 (26:33):
My issue with job. Moran is very cut and dry.
I coached kids. I coach a lot of boys, man,
I'm talking about hundreds of boys that come through my programs,
training coaching.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
You still have cut you off.

Speaker 6 (26:46):
You used to have a program, yeah, AU basketball. Yeah,
it's like on.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Team A cuffs were nice. Bro, we like the best,
one of the best teams in the country for our age.

Speaker 6 (26:57):
Those eight am games on Saturday morning, Hey, we played today.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
I requested late games because it is.

Speaker 6 (27:05):
Up there. You got to use your purse.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
I'm sorry, but yeah, what's wrong with John mort Man.

Speaker 6 (27:11):
The Jai is just our coach. Kids like Jai and
it's like some kids. My wife actually said, it's like
you have defiance like some kids have odd like they defiant.
So him doing the gun gestures, it's like, bro, you
have a lot of kids watching you. At the end
of the day, they want to be you. These new
kids now just watching you, which are electrifying like high

(27:32):
flying dunks, and this is the way you elevate. We
haven't seen that since Alan Iverson. You are the Allen
Iverson for the young kids now. So always say is
don't change to you are John Morant. But like at
the same time, you have to be aware and have
self awareness and accountability because it's making you, even though
you might be a good kid, dp down, it's just

(27:53):
making you look like like the villain they want you
to be. So you got to realize that. And that's
my only thing with like seeing a kid like that,
I feel like he's gonna have the right people around
him to keep it real with you. I love that
his dad is supportive of him, but it's almost as
if his dad loves the cameras more than he does,
you know.

Speaker 5 (28:11):
And he's too distracted to even be the resource to
his kid that he needs to be. Like yeah, beef
with Shannon Sharp and all this old other stuff. Man
that the boy and the basically threw away his opportunity
to be the face.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
Of the league.

Speaker 5 (28:27):
He's not turning into like a joke.

Speaker 6 (28:29):
Man. The NBA wants to promote this kid, and they
wanted they wanted to make him the face. I mean,
he was perfect. He could have slot. He could have
slid right into that spot when Lebron retires and when
Kevin Durant leaves, when Steph Curry leaves, you would have
been the most electrifying guard in the league. And you
still are electrifying. But I just don't know what Memphis

(28:50):
is going to do this offseason because I don't think
they want to pay him that Supermax because it's a risk.
It is a risk, and I tel he gets the
right people in his circle. Man, We're gonna keep We're
gonna keep having the same conversation about Jamarans.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
But he's available for the Supermax.

Speaker 6 (29:05):
Correct, Yeah, I think they're gonna trade him. I'm here,
I'm hearing rumors that the Myphis is trying to move
off on him. I think they're trying to build around
Jared Jackson and Bang and try to build around those.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
If you're a team, why would you give up a
bunch of assets If you know Memphis has no intentions
on giving them the why would you give up for him?

Speaker 6 (29:23):
Why would You're right? But I just think with joy
he does put butts in the seats like people want
to come see him play. So I'm still a fan
of the kids. I just hope he figures it out, man.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
Because not only cups is he putting butts in the seats.
Every kid in a I'm in the gym every weekend.
Every kid in the gym wearing the shoes. It's either
if they wearing the Kobe's or the Ja Morants.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
It ain't nothing else they wearing. It's the Kobe's and
the jobs.

Speaker 6 (29:49):
He's the Derrick Rose and Allen Iverson of this generation
of gen Z kids. And like I said, I just
want to see him, like I want to see him
really really figure it out and possibly win a champion
ship because you don't want you guys know this, being
former players, you have to write your own narrative, like
don't let them write your narrative for you, Like don't
let them paint the picture for you. And you're giving

(30:10):
them all that right now.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
Oh he's painting the picture. That's the problem, Like we don't.
He has to have way more self accountability in this
scenario if you ask me, right, Like, there's no excuses
for him because these are self inflicted wounds that he's
putting on his reputation and on his brand, and there's
no reason to do it, Like you what you want
people to think? You hard, like it's not even still

(30:31):
a thing, like you know we are here, but I'm
watching what's going on right now.

Speaker 6 (30:37):
God, I got to say, it's the music, lebar. It
is into this influence that you see with these but
has always music has always been a part of what
It's always been connected.

Speaker 5 (30:49):
It's finny. We had this conversation on this very show.
Music has always what is it? We just talked about
a little bow wow and him talking about how easy
it is to take advantage of athletes versus entertainers and
rappers and stuff like that, which I think is insanely
absurd to say. But the thing about it is is
that you still got to understand that within the industry

(31:13):
that we're in, in the sports category, you still have
to be around boosters. You got to be around advertisers,
you got to be around sponsors. There's a lot of
things that go on behind the scenes with handshakes and
trips and dinner meetings and all kinds of stuff that
don't take place in other industries. You know, there's a

(31:33):
certain little conduct that you got to have. I just
don't understand why he continues to be so blatantly like out,
like he crashes.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Out for no reason.

Speaker 5 (31:42):
There's no reason to do, no shooting gestures or anything
like that.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
I'll jump in and say this man, everybody knows my
story and what I've put upon myself and everything that
transpire with that, I'll.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Take it to I didn't have a father. I didn't
have a dad or father growing up. Never knew who
my father was until let my freshman yi in college.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
And I'm not saying that I'm not I don't won't
tell anybody how to raise their kids, because that's not
any space for me or anybody else, or how you
choose to teach or raise your children. But I will
say this, I have a son and a daughter, and
I love them more than I love myself. But what

(32:35):
I will say is being a dad and a father,
there's a time to be a dad and a father.
And just like you know you was saying earlier, his
father is having more fun being distracted about everything that's
going on. I can't imagine that he won't sit his

(32:57):
son down next to him and say something more dress
whatever's going on with him or inside of basketball, outside
of basketball, understanding that everything that we just said about him,
that he could be the face of the NBA.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
But somebody has to have this conversation with this young man.

Speaker 4 (33:20):
I would love to sit down with him and sit
down in front of him, But you can't teach or
you can't you know, judge a parent or on how.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
Or what they should do raising their children.

Speaker 4 (33:38):
But somebody to this young man, he could be one
of the most dynamic basketball players that we ever see.

Speaker 2 (33:45):
And I want to see that for him and his family.

Speaker 4 (33:49):
But you know, just the young man down, have a
real heart to heart conversation and let him know how
special he is.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
Maybe he doesn't that fast.

Speaker 5 (34:01):
He better because he's already costed himself once and it's
you know, and twice. I mean, he's going he's heading
towards costing himself again and that just doesn't even make
sense as to why he would crash out like this,
but it is what it is. Listen, Cuffs as usual,
come ge we we we had to destroy you on

(34:21):
this jokic deal. But other than that, everything seemed to
be smooth. It is Duke blue where you're at, but
it's always Penn State blue wherever I'm at. But nonetheless
and enjoying the enjoy everything that's going on. And Cuffs,
we'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 4 (34:37):
Man.

Speaker 5 (34:37):
That's Cuffs from uh some Dude show. Dude is the
man they call him Cuffs, the legend you check him
out on the social media as well. That's TJ. That's
plex They're the man too, you know what I mean. Well,
they're the super Friends. You know, you got Panteen Man
and you got Stretch Armstrong. You know who they are.
I'm LeVar Rrington. We're gonna take a quick break. On
the other side of the break, we're gonna wrap this

(34:57):
thing up. So yeah, this is up on game and

Speaker 5 (35:48):
Hushman is out of Plexico Burds. I'm LeVar Arrington. Immediately
following the show, Jonas Knox will be coming on, Fellas.
I'm looking at this Instagram post of the time that
that Gronkowski had on that throwback leather football helmet and
a throwback jersey and took Steve Harvey. He took Steve

(36:08):
Harvey's lego bust and and Gronkowski spiked it. Did you
ever see that video? Man, the funniest junk ever bru
igat right now, I was sending to you, I said
it to y'all right now. Uh, but speaking of the grid,
iiron before we get up out of here, I saw

(36:30):
a report and Bo helped me out with it. The Browns,
after awarding Miles Gear with the highest contract of a
defensive player in the history of the game, with the extension,
they had some interesting things to say. And well, the
things that jumped out at me was real leader. What
did they say, in particular bowing and we had the

(36:50):
guys quickly respond to it. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (36:53):
Brown's owner Jimmy Haslins told a group of reporters at
the owners meetings, he said, what we've challenged Miles on
is by his practice, habits, by his actions, etc. To
become a real leader of the team, and he has
said he'd do that, and we're hopeful that he will be.

Speaker 5 (37:08):
Hey, just mad super quick. That just says to me, like,
what have you been doing up until now?

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Brouh?

Speaker 5 (37:14):
What type of dude have you been? In practice? What
type of leader have you been up until now?

Speaker 3 (37:18):
You know that report came out, right, you know, a
report came out when Miles Garrett said he wanted to
be traded. A report came out and said, well, Miles
Garrett is not a leader anyway. He shows up late.
He's not doing this, he's not doing that when he
requested a trade and then they gave him all that
money and he was happy to be at Cleveland Brown.
And so now showing up late, not doing what you're

(37:41):
supposed to do, they're hoping the second or the third
contract we give you now you will be a leader.
This is the problem in sports. They always want the
best players to be leaders. Sometimes that's just not the case.
Sometimes the best players are not always leaders.

Speaker 5 (37:59):
That's true.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
Your leader is the god that other people are willing
to follow. You can't appoint your best player as a leader.
The guys in the locker room determine who The leader
is by who they following, who they listen to, and
if it's Miles Garrett, great, and if it isn't, somebody
else just got to step up and be that leader.
And we always expect the best players to be a leader,

(38:21):
and that's not always a case.

Speaker 2 (38:23):
And that's okay.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
Now, if Miles Garrett wants to be a leader and
that's something that he wants to do, that's great also,
but don't force that on somebody because the players aren't
going to listen. The players aren't going to follow him
because they know and I know what you're doing. I've
seen you ain't even showing up on time, but you're
gonna get two sacks since.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
So we got to listen to.

Speaker 5 (38:45):
Hey, hey, you're paying me enough money to show up
on time. You're paying me enough money to be a raw,
raw guy. I'll be that raw, raw guy, and I'm
gonna show up on time.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
But you don't have to be the leader. You don't
have to be a leader.

Speaker 5 (38:56):
If that's not saying so some would say it's a
leading by example, and I agree with you. I totally
agree with what you're saying. I'm just saying for the
amount of money that they paying him. I'm gonna show
up on time. Oh you want me to be more
of a leader. What what is that consist off? You
want me to say, Hey, guys, come on, let's go
have a good practice. To that, I'm gonna say, I'm
gonna write down the checklist.

Speaker 2 (39:15):
Of things I need to do that's in you. If
that's not in you, then you not you are.

Speaker 5 (39:20):
Hey, bruh, I'm gonna be on time and I'm gonna
go down my checklist or what it takes to be
I'm a check off being a leader?

Speaker 2 (39:29):
Yeah, I bet you will.

Speaker 4 (39:30):
Man. Listen, I played with guys I was playing. I
played with guys who were leaders of football teams that
you would never know. And I'm not taking anything away
from anybody, but when I was playing in Pittsburgh, the
offense a leader that football team was Alan Fanica. You
didn't see him in front of the microphone, you didn't
see him giving these Rod Rock speeches. But when he

(39:52):
came into the holler on Sundays and he spoke, everybody, listen,
you paid attention. And obviously I play with some great players,
but your leaders on any team, they don't have to
be your best players, just because they get all to
know the rise and they make the most money. Indeed,

(40:12):
well both Plexico TJ are leaders, and I enjoyed doing
the show with leaders.

Speaker 5 (40:16):
This is up on Game Fox Sports Radio. Hope you
enjoyed the show. Jonas Knox coming at you and right
