Speaker 1 (00:00):
This guy was still able to be exceptional. Plus he
had to be able to run and escape and get
out of the pocket. And you had guys that you
know chasing them downfield and doing all those things and
trying to basically take him out of the game.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Indeed, they were hit.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Hunting for him all the time. And so I say that,
you know, Tom Brady exceptional, but I feel still feel
like Joe montana is.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
You're working with FedEx Airing Ground on an award and
there's something new here. So twenty plus year history of
the FedEx Air and Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards,
and the pool has expanded this year from quarterbacks and
running backs to include tight ends and wide receivers. So
(00:53):
who better to be a part of talking about what's
going on with this award and who can go to
now beyond quarterbacks and running backs to tight ends and receivers.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Then the greatest, my greatest of all time.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
I think you're the greatest football player of all time,
Jerry Rice. Appreciate you coming on to the show Man. First,
how's life Ben?
Speaker 2 (01:16):
How you doing? I see you on in the commercials.
I see you put the uniform back on. You get
the itchy to get back out there.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
You know what, man, all right, that commercial was so funny.
It was fun because m Smith. Then you had Randy.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Moss, yeap.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
And and and they asked us if we could run
down the tunnel. So of course Dan Marino said, Man,
I'm not running anywhere. Em It was like, no, ain't
no way, I'm gonna run.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
You know, Randy, Randy.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Still feel he feels like he still got it, got it.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Okay, we had a great.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Time with that commercials just putting that uniform back on again.
But it's just brought back memories man, from hey, you
know how you know, just the appreciation of put in
that uniform, on going out there and playing in front
of thirty thousand fans of more, how you you know,
the energy and how you've just felt like you just
(02:12):
owned that crowd your best football on that given pay
So yeah, you know, it brought back a lot of memories.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
You you gave people a lot of great memories. A
lot of people patterned their their way of doing things
after you. When you look at what's going on in
today's games, because you're going you're a part of them.
Giving out a weekly awards and by the way, if
you want to check out where the players Awards are
taking place, where you can get them to. The published
polls are at the NFL on X and you know
(02:43):
some people know this Twitter or you can go on
NFL dot Com on the NFL mobile app all season
long as well the.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Latest with your skill position.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
You had two really really good good receivers get traded
and go to different teams. Amari Cooper goes to the
Buffalo Bills. I think that's a crazy big pickup for Buffalo.
And then you had Davonte Adams his hamstring held up,
you know well enough for him.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
To get to get to get to the Jets and.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Play with and be reunited with Aaron is a show. No, No,
I just know how soft tissue we we know how
soft tissue injuries worked in the NFL, especially when there
may be a trade that's imminent.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
What what's your take on those like?
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I haven't been high on the Jets, but I do
think that Davonte Adams could change what's going on.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yeah, I think he can change it. I think you
know what he brings to the table. Uh. Plus he
has that chemistry with Aaron Rodgers and and right now,
man because you know, it's like that last ball game
that they I feel like they should have won, but
it ended up costing him towards the end. And you
(04:01):
know with Amari Cooper going to the Bills, that's big.
That's big also, so you know, you get two veterans
that that knows the game, knows what they're capable of,
and uh that gonna just go in and uh and
really help both, you know, help those teams. I had
(04:24):
a chance to stand up next to DeVante Adams and
I couldn't believe the size of this Guy's big. He's
a big receiver. Big receiver, but explosive receiver that can
you know, really run by you or you know, make
those difficult catches over the middle, not afraid of utilizing
(04:46):
his body getting hit, all of those things. And and
uh so it's gonna be you know, exciting to see
him and Aaron Rodgers get back together.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
You play for the Raiders, right, I mean you have
feeling sources that I know, the Niners is your that's
your mob. I get that, But you did put some
time in with the Raiders, and you put some good
time in with with the Raiders, Like do you did
you see like how how do you feel it could
have gone differently, like from your you know, from your
(05:15):
vantage point, what could have happened differently? Is it the quarterback?
They don't have a quarterback. I don't think they have
a quarterback, but I think they need a quarterback. What
did you think the Derek Carr situation maybe messed up,
maybe kind of poisoned the well.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
A little bit.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
I think all of them that might might have been
a factor, But it was just that they did not
bring another quarterback in there, and and and I think,
you know, even with Jimmy g uh back in the day,
I think with Defante Adams, he was frustrated and it
just kept building, you know, and and for some reason,
(05:52):
and in this year's draft, uh you know, uh, well
last year's draft, they still didn't get to bring a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
They didn't get too one.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Oh you know, you know how important it is to
be the puzzle. So the frustration just kept building. Then
eventually he says, say, I got to get out of here,
and and I wish it had gone down a different way.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Okay, but you know it's it's now.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Both sides can just go ahead and focus on the
rest of the season. And let that be it.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
All right, Let's let's get back to the to the
business at hand of why we're here. Tell us about it,
tell us about what the award represents, what your your
involvement is, because if you're involved, obviously the credibility is
sky high and it's something that people should be paying
attention about. What should we be looking for?
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Okay, the Fedix Aaron Ground NFL Awards. You know, it's
great bringing receivers and tight ends into this mix too,
because we feel like we are very important on the
football field. Also, and this is the one wide receiver
award that I missed out on. You can go to
NFL dot com slash fedix. And I also I like
(07:04):
what they're doing with HBCUs. You know, FedEx will make
two thousand donations for a player of the week winners
and what they also you know, uh, they're going to
give one hundred thousand towards scholarships for students every year.
And one of my fellow teammates, man, I think it
was Week three, he was a wide receiver. He won
(07:26):
uh the NFL Award Aaron Brown, Uh, Juwan Jennings and
and and it's just that this is a great opportunity
to put participants uh this week because you have to
vote like Monday through Wednesday. Uh of Caleb Williams, Jared Golf, UH,
(07:49):
Derek Henry UH and you Uh you got Sean Tucker
and Joe Mixon. Uh. Those guys are the participants and
the fans have to vote. That's the most important thing.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Okay, all right, So make sure y'all check it out
on X. It's a weekly award FedEx Aaron Ground NFL
Players of the Week Awards.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
UH.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
And you can get it on NFL mobile app and
on NFL dot com and at NFL on on the X.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
I got one more.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Question for you before I let you go this and
this should be this should be a fun one. I listen.
I know there's been the age old debate for some
reason between you and Randy, But I'm not gonna hit
you with that one. I'm not gonna hit you with
that one. I'm gonna hit you with another one.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Okay, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
It's Tom Brady, the goat of goats. When there's Joe Manta.
Now I know he's been in more Super Bowls, Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
And I know he's got I know he's got. But
from your perspective, could Tom Brady have done what he
did in this era of football, in the era of
football that you and Joe did what y'all did, and
(08:58):
vice versa. Could Joab done what Tom Brady did in
this era a time because Tom Brady didn't have a
Jerry Rice or a John Taylor or Roger Craig or
you know, he didn't have any of that, right, Joe
Montana had the greatest football player in the history of
the game at his disposal out there on the edges.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
But at that time, at that time, I was not
that great.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Though.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
You almost made me use profanity on my Good Fair
show here and now I'm not gonna use it.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
But I know where you're going with this. Two different eras,
uh huh. And guy, you know there have been so
much debating going back and forth and stuff like that.
But I just feel that, you know, Tom Brady was
incredible what he did back in the day and to
win seven Super Bowls and all of that. But the
(09:54):
quarterback were so protected.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
I mean they protected I I I they protected.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Montana back in the day. Oh my god, even if
the ball was gone, he was still getting hit.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Hold him up, hold him on, fold him up nice
and neatly, put him in the package, send him back
to the sideline. You got to fold him up back,
you got you got him one to two steps to
go ahead and thump him.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
You don't get that anymore. You don't get that anymore.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
So so so so so so. My thing is this
guy was still able to be exceptional. Plus he had
to be able to run and escape and get out
of the pocket. And you had guys that you know,
chasing him downfield and doing all those things and trying
to basically take him out of the game. Indeed, they
were hit hunting for him all the time. But and
(10:42):
and so I say that, you know, Tom Brady exceptional,
But I feel still feel like Joe Montana is the greatest,
the greatest quarterback to ever do it.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
You don't think it's biased.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
You think it's like it was a real Like it
was just a different era of football and you had
to play what fall turning in the flag or seven
on seven Now, it was football back when y'all was
doing it.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Yeah, that's just like if they asked me, they said,
if you were playing in today's football now, you would
be able to put outstanding numbers up like crazy.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Do you think? So?
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Yeah, it's totally different because you can't. You can't actually
hit the receiver anymore, right, the receiver is protected. So
these guys know that that.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
You know, you know back in the when they say
they say stronger, bigger, stronger, faster, they saying that these
young boys would have locked Jerry Rice up.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Hey, hey man, I'm telling you we can still do it.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
You messing with me now though, you messing with Hey, hey,
I'm just said Jerry.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Right, LeVar lever.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
They don't even play bumping run anymore.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
They really don't.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Man.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
If you can't, if you cannot defeat a defensive back
five yards off.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
You right, I mean something right, It's.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Something something not right, man, something right? So yeah, man,
so right.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Well listen that I enjoyed this, man, it's been a pleasure.
Speaker 2 (12:11):

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Like I said, make sure y'all check it out. First
time in twenty plus years of the history of the award,
the FedEx Air and Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards,

tight ends and wide receivers. That's why the Goat has

down and doing what he was doing.
Speaker 3 (12:55):

Speaker 1 (12:55):

greatest one.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
