Underdog

Today’s dose of "Vitamin D" is dedicated to the “Underdogs,” to those who are so easily counted out... I believe in you, but the question is, "Do you believe in yourself?"

You know there’s something to be said about the underdog. They turn the impossible into “I’m possible,” whether it’s Taraji P. Henson moving to LA with only $700 to her name with her toddler son, to being an award-winning actress. Or steve Harvey growing up with a severe speech impediment and being told he would never make it on tv to becoming an award-winning tv host. Or how about Cardi B? Growing up in the Bronx as a stripper to being the first female rapper to have 5 number 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100. Hey, it’s possible because you’re possible! Did you know that when I first applied to Howard, I didn’t get accepted? But I didn’t give up. I still ended up graduating from Howard with honors and hosted my own graduation. Yeah, I’m possible and so are you.

Just like Alicia Keys belts in her hit single “Underdog”, it’s important that you remind yourself that although “they said I would never make it... I was built to break the mold, the only dream that I’ve been chasing is my own.” What’s your dream? You know you gotta want your dream as bad as you want to breathe, right? Despite how hard it gets, you can’t give up. You have to “keep on keeping at what you love. You’ll find that someday soon enough, you will rise up.”
