Speaker 3 (05:00):
Dan got engaged and this is his mother calling in
to congratulate them. And isn't it amazing that he picked
somebody that you love?
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Also?
Speaker 8 (05:09):
I am just absolutely in love with him.
Speaker 10 (05:12):
I'm so proud of him.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
I'm so proud of Dan. Everybody's proud of And then

Speaker 4 (05:45):

going on. It's way up with Angela yee.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Oh, she's about to blow the lid ab off this,
but let's get it. Oh yeah, Angela's feeling.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
That yee te, Come and get the tea.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Its way up with Angela yee. I'm Angela yee and
Jasmine Brand is here. I'm here, and Mano is here.
Yeah yeah, and we are.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Doing yee te. So let's get into it.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Kim Katrell is one of the people who is actually
in the new Skims campaign from Sex and the City Samantha. Yeah,
I know she is. You know, everyone knows yekay, I know.
You know she barely came back from the last you know.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
We didn't think she was going to rejoin Sex in
the City.
Speaker 11 (06:34):
Kim.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
She plays Samantha on Sex and the City.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Oh yeah, that's.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
What I'm saying, so he had to know once We
said that she's sixty seven years old and she's part
of the SKIMS campaign, but she looks good.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Nellie Pittato's in it. Coco Jones is in it too.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
We love Coco Jones, yes we do. So shout out
to all of them. It is the best of SKIMS campaign,
is what they're doing. Okay, all right, and just in
time for Halloween because that's coming up in less than
four weeks. The director for saw ten said that neighbors
called the cops while the editor was was doing the
editing for the film. All right, So according to the director,
(07:10):
they said that Steve Forn, who was the key editor
for saw ten, was paid a visit by police. He
was editing sound for a scene in the film where
a character gets their eyes sucked out. Oh it doesn't
sound sexy, sounds awful, all right. They said there was
a knock at the door and they had the doorbell
camera video footage of the police walking up and saying,
the neighbors have been calling into someone's being tortured to
(07:32):
death in there, really loud, and he said, actually, I'm
just working on a movie. You can come in and
see if you want. But the cops said they didn't
need to do that. They just wanted to make sure
that everything was okay.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
If you asked me, the cops should have taken him
up on that.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Not hold on, I wouldn't want to see that. No,
but I'm saying just to make sure because you know,
we see all those movies about like serial killers and
stuff like that, and the cops could have.
Speaker 11 (08:00):
Right.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
So the cops should have been like, you know what
we do just for safety, want to see that this
is really just you know, this being edited their job
only because I feel like when you see these movies,
it's like this could have been prevented, and he invited
them in. It's not like you know, they threw them
on the ground or anything like that. They should have
been like, you know what, we would like to see that.
(08:22):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
I'm just saying, do you.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Guys have any ideas of what what rain should be
for Halloween? Since Halloween is coming up?
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Oh your daughter?
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah no, but we'll think about that in a second. Okay,
all right, she'd been a cute little cop and we
can have a timmaino up.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
I guess them wall.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
No, it's not funny, It's not funny, all right. And
LaToya Luckett was on the Good Mom's Bad Choices podcast
and she said, in her next marriage, her husband is
going to come before her kids.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
Here's what she said.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
If you get married, you'll your husband will become priority
and then the children cool order.
Speaker 7 (09:00):
So I try and go by the biblical order, even.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Though that's harder said than done.
Speaker 7 (09:06):
I've been on the other side of that not happening
twice and it does interfere a little bit.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
I don't have kids, and I know people get mad
if I weigh in on things, but I always thought
that kids come first, absolutely absolutely, That's what I always
thought was the natural order of things, and that anybody
who loves you will understand their children, that these children,
who cannot even fend for themselves a lot of times
come before any because we've seen people put you know,
(09:33):
the significant other before their kids, and that doesn't go well.
It usually does not, God bless her.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Yeah, and she's talking about her own personal situation.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
But yeah, well she said she did this the other
way and it didn't work, so maybe, yeah, it's not
for me. But I don't know, because even if I
was with somebody and I've dated guys with kids. I
would never want them to put me before their kids.
I would feel bad about that. Who wants a man
that's gonna put yeah, okay, it's crazy.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
And the man that come in there and allow that.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
It's crazier now because look, Jasmine, you have a daughter.
Can you imagine a man coming before your daughter?
Speaker 5 (10:08):
No?
Speaker 3 (10:08):
I cannot. Okay, may know you have a son and
a daughters, right, and who comes first?
Speaker 5 (10:13):
They do?
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (10:15):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Would it matter to you if, like you're the person
you were dating didn't get along with your kids.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
I'm not even negotiating with that. Like, it's not even negotiations.
All you gotta do is just be nice and cald you.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
You don't gotta you don't have to come out.
Speaker 6 (10:27):
Yeah, you don't gotta even interact with them. But if
you can't do that, we don't have nothing to talk about.
I get mad just when somebody you know where you're going,
I'm going to see my daughter.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
I'll be back.
Speaker 6 (10:36):
I'm being l a for a couple of days. Oh man,
I'm gonna really miss you. I get mad at that.
Don't tell me you'ren.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
Miss them, won't see my daughter?
Speaker 4 (10:47):
That you shouldn't.
Speaker 6 (10:48):
But yeah, but I feel like it's something underlying, right,
like don't sit up there telling me how don't don't
sit up there? Have like an attitude and about how attitude.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
I think it's fair to have a good time. I'll
miss you.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Yeah, I don't think he was saying it right, Okay,
it's the way to make me feel guilty about going
to see my child.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
Right because you can't. Yeah, yeah, you get sent out
of there.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
All right, Well, thank you for clearing that up. That
is your yeete. And when we come back, we have
about last night. That's where we discussed the things that
we did last night. It's the way you put angela
ye yeah last night.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
So about last night?
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Last night?
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Last night I went.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Down, what's up this way you put Angela yee?
Speaker 4 (11:30):
I'm Angela yee.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
And Jasmine Brand is here, yes, Mano is here, I'm here,
you here, and it's time for about last night?
Speaker 4 (11:37):
Now, what did you do last night?
Speaker 5 (11:38):
May?
Speaker 3 (11:38):
No?
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Man?
Speaker 5 (11:40):
You know what? I was at a show?
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Okay, eleborate you said, what oh Conway the machine.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
Yeah, shout out to Conway Machine, shout out to everybody
that was there.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
Brought me out perform for my city.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
This by my city.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
And you got some good, good people that have actually
been participating in this challenge. This is a tough one.
Are there any people that you feel like this is definitely.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
We've already know they win us.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
Okay, and the winners you actually are going to upload
it onto streaming services platforms.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
Is a winner out of Harford. I haven't announced it yet.
It's a couple of winners of Virginia. I already know
them in my mind.
Speaker 5 (12:19):
I haven't just.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Okay, and I don't think you properly promoted our dance
that we did are Yeah, he got a whole dance
for it too. It was on TikTok because he was
like throwing punches my city.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
This is funny.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Sorry, all right and now and addition to that, I
actually did my podcast. The podcast was great Cocktails, Dirty Discussions,
and so shout out to Kiki and Medina who came through.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
They were in town for a few days.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
On Friday, they had their show at Sony Hall and
unfortunately it was a huge thunderstorm, but they still did
the show. They did some people could not make it
out and so I know, but they said it was
still a great show. It was more intimate, you know,
but the weather there was nothing you could really do
about it. But that was actually the kickoff to their tour.
So shout out to those ladies. They're really funny, and
(13:06):
they talked about a lot of really great things, for instance,
leaving your man because he's going through a depression. Right,
Some people feel like in a relationship, you know, you
have to kind of like stick through, right, people in
the hard times. But if they don't love them like that.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
If you don't love them, then why be in a
relationship with.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Well, she was a lot younger, she was saying, but
you know, sometimes it could also be the early stages,
because that happened to me before. Early on, they go
through some rough times and you're like, I don't know
if this is something I want to work through.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
Right, here's what she said.
Speaker 7 (13:36):
I do think there was maybe like some depression going on.
He had been through a lot in life, but that
was another nothing. You don't have to go through those
things with people like this sounds really hard somebody listening
to it. But I just at the moment in my life,
I wasn't the time. I'm I didn't love him enough
to be like I'm going to rock this out with you.
I don't want to. I was young and happy and
free and like, I don't really want to be doing.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
You a professional like you're not You're not the lady. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
It was a very honest conversation, and I think that's important.
That's what lip service is, honest relationship conversations. Right, you
could listen to that. This lip service podcast is out today.
But I love this conversation and this is something I
want to do. When I left my last job, I
had to do an exit interview, and the exit interview
they asked you to just kind of like talk about
everything honestly about your experience working with someplace. And when
(14:25):
I tell you, I'll let them have it. Oh goodness,
I surely did, Okay. I was very honest about how
I felt about, you know, how we were treated and
specific people who I thought were poor managers. Yes, and
I know that a lot of people have issues with
this man over there because he still works there. But
Medina had to go through was when she broke up
(14:46):
with her ex and they weren't even in a serious,
serious relationship. He found her mother's information, right, and I
think one of her siblings and sent them basically an
email detailing all the things that he felt like was
wrong with her in their relationship. God, here's what she
had to say about that.
Speaker 7 (15:04):
He ended up writing a six page Google doc about me,
about everything that he didn't like that I did, and
he put bullet points. When we were out, you could
have suggested that you were going to pay for the extra,
the extra who could call? Or hey baby, I'm going
to pick you up from the airport this week. It
was so detailed. I'll show you all after the show.
It was crazy. He made a Google doc. Not only
did he make the Google doc, he got on Instagram,
(15:25):
found my mom, found my older brother, my older sister,
and my best friend, and he sent them the Google doc.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Now, to me, I kind of liked the idea of
an exit interview after a really not that way and
not feeling it to sister right like.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
What did you know what went wrong?
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Because he did say that there were a lot of
great things about her, but he also talks about the
things that bothered him in great detail. It's not up
to him to share that information with anybody besides.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
Her because some people weren't closer.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
They want to know, they want to know, like, what
did I do wrong? They don't want that. You don't
want your mama to know.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
In all fairness, she did. Yeah, I would want my
mom to know.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
She did say that it did make her hyper sensitive
to certain things that maybe she did need to work on,
you know.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
So I think if you can.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Maybe I was thinking what might be good for us
to do is to develop some type of form for
people to fill out during a breakup.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
Yeah, we're fill out this form. I just want to know.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
But I want to see for you guys, if you
could send a letter after your breakup with your ex
of things that you feel like they needed to work on,
and you can also put in some positive things like
you were great at this, but when we went out
to eat, you would never offer to pay anything, not
even the tip.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
You know.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
Well, that's one of the things that he was saying.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
He was like, you've never said, oh, I'll get this
round of shots, you know, and so he called those
relationship deposits, and she apparently didn't make any. But I
want to see what you guys would say to your
ex if you could maybe do an exit interview and
let them know this is what you need to work
on because it could have the next person.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
We had a lot of exes. How many how many
letters would you will?
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Who are you talking to? He's thinking at you, Jess,
don't look at me. I have who knows how many
exits just for one X.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Yeah, just the last one.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
If it's the last one, I already know what his
issues are with me, your issues with him, She wrote
her own exit. All right, well, eight hundred fifty one
fifty is a number. Call us up and let us know,
and we're going to tell you ours. It's way up
with Angela Yee.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
You ride up with Angela Yee.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
What's up this way up with Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee.
And Jasmine Brand is here, Yes, and Mano is here.
Morning Radio, Morning Radio. Yes, on the radio, and we
are talking about the lip service episode Cocktails, Dirty Discussions,
and we were discussing an exit interview after your relationship
is over. Apparently, Medina Monroe's X sent a letter to
(17:52):
her and her mom and some of her friends and
family members discussing what was wrong in their relationship. It
was like a power point presentation. Oh my goodness, And
I was wondering for you guys, what would somebody. What
would you say to an ex if you could do
an exit interview or maybe fill out a form letting
them know what went right and what went wrong?
Speaker 4 (18:10):
What about you? May no think about your last ex?
Speaker 5 (18:13):
You was all bad?
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Oh my god, man, your accountability?
Speaker 5 (18:17):
You were all bad?
Speaker 4 (18:18):
She was not all bad?
Speaker 7 (18:19):
Or that?
Speaker 5 (18:20):
What we're talking about walking.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
The last relationship we know of.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
It's not the last relationship that I know of. But no,
I mean listen, I would say that there was mostly good,
mostly positivity.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
What can she work on?
Speaker 5 (18:33):
Being negative, waking up not happy, on the wrong side
of the feeling blessed, not feeling.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
Imaging your positive energy the more right.
Speaker 5 (18:42):
Because you got it. You gotta come on when we blessed.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
She needs some menovation.
Speaker 6 (18:46):
Menovation, you know, the gratitude that you gotta feel with
just being able to just be here. You know, it's
not looking at things on the negative all the time.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
What would you tell your X Jasmine, Well, I don't
have anything of a tox But Angela, what would you tell.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
You're not anything at arstin?
Speaker 3 (19:01):
No, you were saying earlier that there were some things
that you would say, Now, Angela, that's a lot. I
don't know, but no, seriously, Angela, what would you tell
your ex? I would tell him that he needs to
communicate more, because he definitely is just he's very chill,
but he wasn't very good.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
We didn't really argue about anything. Ever. He really is
a great, nice person.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Yeah, I agree, but I think he also is just
very like he not having no deep discussion about anything.
Speaker 5 (19:25):
So you're not going to tell us nothing.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
Oh, I would just say stop living in the past.
My ex would just it would be an issue or
a mistake or something I made. And when I tell
you he could not let it go, I'd be like,
oh my gosh, you talk about something from a Yah.
Speaker 5 (19:40):
Yeah, I don't let it go.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
I can't believe we got to move on order.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
You're a little bit uh toxic.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Ma.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
No, all right, Well, let's hear what you guys have
to say. Eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty
is a number. Hey, Josh, how are you?
Speaker 5 (19:54):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (19:54):
How you doing?
Speaker 12 (19:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (19:55):
I'm good?
Speaker 5 (19:56):
All right.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
We want to hear about an exit interview.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
What would you say to your ex if you could
tell her the things that she did right and the
things that she did wrong.
Speaker 10 (20:04):
Let's start with things that she did right. She helped
me understand myself more. She made me understand that there's
a lot of things about myself when it comes to
completing my thoughts, especially talking to another person that I
don't do. And that was one of the things that
she was very, very consistent about when we were together,
like what does that mean? Like explain what are you saying?
(20:25):
Explain what you're saying, because I was very short on
what I was saying in conversation and she will always
tell me to explain myself, explain myself.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
So I like that, okay.
Speaker 10 (20:35):
And she hated putting myself down. And she'll always say,
speak positive about yourself.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
Okay, she seems great. I don't know why this didn't
work out.
Speaker 10 (20:42):
Well, okay, so let's get let let's get to this.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
So what happened? What would you say was negative?
Speaker 10 (20:50):
She was always depressed. So, yes, she was preaching all
this stuff to me, but it seemed like she wasn't
taking her own advice.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
And that's the hardest to do, is take your own advice.
Speaker 10 (21:00):
Yes, she always telled me to believe in myself and
think I'm good, but she never thought. She always thought
she was like the least important person to everyone else.
She always thought she had her body wasn't right. She
was always in the gym trying to be fit, but
her fit just didn't have like an accurate number, like
it just always seemed to be today. I want to
(21:22):
be like this, I want to be like this, I
want to be like it, just always so I don't know.
All that was just driving me crazy.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Okay, all right, fair enough, mystic.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Yeah, and it seemed like she was like obsessive about
her you know, going to the gym and everything, and
and felt like nothing was ever good enough. That's it,
all right, Well, thank you so much, Josh. We appreciate
you for calling and being honest with us. Maybe she'll
hear this.
Speaker 8 (21:42):
And you're welcome, all right, thank you Guyia.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
Hey Jamaine, how are you a person named Jermaine?
Speaker 5 (21:52):
Call up here?
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Well, your name's Maino, so it's okay, but it's still
and you know, well, Jamaine, let's talk about these exit
interviews in relationships. Right, If you could do an exit
interview for your ex and let her know what she
did right and what she did wrong, we want to
hear what it would say.
Speaker 10 (22:07):
She did everything right, but her insecurities were crazy. I
gave her a friend a piece of candy and she
went ballistic.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
It was Sae for.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Giving her friend a piece of candy.
Speaker 8 (22:20):
Yeah, that's wild, and she thought that something to us.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Okay, So it doesn't sound like she did everything right.
It sounds like there were some issues there.
Speaker 10 (22:32):
Oh, we were good up until we went outside.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
Well, that's impossible to not go outside.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
So it feels like her insecurities and her baggage from
previous relationships really affected you guys being able to properly,
uh you know, love each other.
Speaker 8 (22:48):
Yeah, like me having female friends was just impossible.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
I'm sorry to hear that.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
So everything else was good except for the fact that
she was extremely jealous and insecure.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
Those are huge things. Yeah, all right, well, thank you Jamaine.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
I wonder what I wonder what she would say about
you in an exit interview?
Speaker 4 (23:06):
Cool this Jermaine on the line.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
Right, Yeah, what would she say about you? Good guy?
Huh it's not his turn.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Okay, you're right, okay, thank you Jamaine. All right, Well,
thank you guys so much for calling eight hundred two
nine fifty one fifty in case you couldn't get through,
and you can listen to that full lip service, cocktails,
dirty discussions on our you know, YouTube and on any
type of streaming services. It's on the iHeart platform as well.
And when we come back, we have yet let's talk
(23:34):
about Easter Ray. She's got a lot on her plate
and now she has a new creative director job as well.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
We'll tell you all about it. As way up at
Angela Yee.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
They say the rooms from industry shade to all of
gosp out.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Angela's feeling that yet, what's up this.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
Way up with Angela Yee. I'm Angela ye and Jasmine
brand is here? What's up Angela?
Speaker 4 (23:55):
And Mano is here?
Speaker 3 (23:57):
I feel like you say Manol's name with a little
bit more industry.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
It's just like I'm trying to wake him up.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
I'm getting a little jealous. Okay, you got to be
here more. She started a Jasmine clearly I did, Yes,
I did. You know how we do the finisher. But
let's get into some et Travis Kelsey. There is so
much drama going on with all of this. You know
(24:27):
he's dating Taylor Swift now. She came to the Jets
game the other day. It was a huge deal. When
the Jets played the Kansas City Chiefs. Everybody was like,
is she going to show up? Is she going to
show up? And they did win, you know, and I
see some people upset that everybody's paying so much attention
to the fact that Taylor's swift is going to the games.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
They care more about that in the actual game.
Speaker 9 (24:49):
It.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Yeah, well, now we're talking about this Kayla Nicole, who
is Travis Kelsey's accent.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
People used to love to see the two of them together.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
She's so pretty.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
It actually made him.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Cooler to people they he was dating her, Ye right,
Kayln Nicole. Well, now Kayln Nicole has unfollowed Brittany Mahomes,
who she was close friends with, and she's also unfollowed
Patrick Mahomes, who is a Travis Kelsey's teammate, as well
as Patrick Mahomes' brother, Jackson Mahomes.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
She's unfollowed the whole entire crew.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
I understand. I'm that girl too, because they're all over
there hanging out.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
Now, yeah, she don't like that.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
She was actually a bridesmaid in their wedding, Patrick Mahomes
and Brittany Mahomes as well. So interesting, you know, I
guess now she's feeling a little bit betrayed, like, oh,
now you want to be a groupie for Taylor Swift.
Well it's it's not their fault, but I still would
un follow them, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm not mature enough.
Speaker 5 (25:40):
You would even get into an altercation with them too.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Okay, it was like he wanted to add sauce onto everything.
But I understand why she unfollowed.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
Right.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
At a certain point, people that they were going to
get back together. I did too, you know, and it
seemed like maybe they would, and now this has happened.
So I will say, though, Taylors, if everybody's waiting to
see what type of music is going to from this,
because people don't feel like it's gonna last for whatever reason.
And then you know, she always writes songs about her
relationships and they always are a good songs. Yeah, she
can make a hit. It's interesting because I do not
(26:10):
think you know, sometimes your ex mayor not your ex
dates somebody that's similar to you or has is long
in the same realm. It seems like Taylor and Kaylor
are like completely two different type of boy. I feel
like usually an expell dates somebody who is very different
from you. Okay, yeah, it depends on who it is, though,
Like I feel like Kanye's trying to date the same
person over and over again. But I feel like sometimes
(26:33):
you're like, Okay, I'm doing the opposite.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
I'm going for better than you.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Right, God, Well hopefully you would always want to and better.
It's all relative. Yeah, we're all on better. Because I
even saw people comparing Kayln Nicole and Taylor Swift to
each other, you know, and some people will say Taylor
Swift because of the money that she has in the
fan that she has, and other people are like, well,
it's Kayln Nicole, look at her, She's amazing, and they
think that's a down you know, they think Taylor Swift
(26:58):
is a downgrade. It all is relative, yea, So we
ask you all right now. Eastern Ray has been in
creative director for the twenty twenty four American Black Film Festival.
Nice That's going to be really dope And according to
Jeff Friday, Nicole and Jeff Friday they made a statement
they're the co founders and producers. Throughout the course of
her career, Ray has made an indelible impact within the
entertainment ecosystem, raising from her wide array of roles in
(27:20):
front of and behind the camera, to her fierce advocacy
for equitable representation and opportunities for black creators. We couldn't
think of a better partner to help us continue to
embody the ABFF mission of showcasing black talent. So she'll
be working really closely with the Fridays to program the
lineup for the twenty eighth edition of the festival that's
going to be June twelfth to the sixteenth in Miami Beach, Florida.
Speaker 4 (27:42):
Okay, so shout out to her.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
I know just yesterday she had her rap Ish premiere
for the latest, the second season. Yes, so every course
that's work. We're in Detroit, so we couldn't make it right. Yes,
shout out to them and everybody on rap Ish. A
great show on HBO Max. All right, well that is
your yet and when we come back, we have under
the radar. These are the stories that are not necessarily
(28:05):
in the headlines. You know why they are flying under
the radar. And I know certain people like to send
their food back all the time, and we're going to
discuss when is it appropriate to send your food back
and when is it not all right?
Speaker 4 (28:16):
It's way up with Angela Yee.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Yeah, news, this in the news that relates to you.
These stories are flying under the radar.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
What's up? It's way up with Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
And Jasmine brand is here hello, and Meno is here
all right, and we are doing these under the radar stories.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
And I pulled this in particular for you, Jasmine.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
When is it okay to send food back to the
kitchen and when is it not okay? Okay? Hold on,
I don't want people to think I send food back
a lot, so angel that's not why you send it.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
Well you got to eat?
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Yeah, thank you, Okay. I don't want to, babe, but
this is off from an ex restaurant manager, all right.
Shuanzan's Sun was a server and manager at restaurants for
a decade in Columbia, Missouri.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
Okay, and he has seen it all. He said.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
One time a customer ate more than half of her
food and said she didn't like it and demanded that
I have the kitchen staff make her something else. Her
attitude was rude, and after explaining that she had ate
most of the things on our plate, she said, but
I don't care. Isn't the customer always right. I said,
I don't like it. So they don't have to do
this in a hostile manner. He said, you have to
be respectful. And here's when it is okay to send
(29:18):
food back. If it doesn't meet your expectations, right when
it doesn't taste good, it's not made to your standard.
If it's overcooked or undercooked, or the veggies are too raw,
or the food is contaminated, then you should definitely send
it back.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
You know one else I'll not want to add to this.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
You should also send it back if it's maybe you said, hey,
I want to see the salad no cheese, and it
comes with cheese on it, or if you say dressing
on the side and it comes not the way that
you ask.
Speaker 6 (29:42):
For something, because they didn't get the order right, Yeah,
they got to respect that.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
But I agree with that.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
If the fries are cold, we just recently did that
and we were at Ruth Chris.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
They didn't bring out cold frost and DC. Yes, Chris
brought out cold.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
But they definitely immediately butt back issue a very hot
plate of fry. And we also weren't nasty.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
Yeah, hey, and we ordered a lot of other things too.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
That was the one thing we sent back was the fries,
and I feel like fries are pretty easy to make.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
Again, I'm very surprised.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
Yeah, food was good though.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
Yeah it was good. That was the only thing that
you know, it was issue was an issue.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Now it's not okay to send food back when if
you've already at least eaten a lot of it, Okay,
you cannot eat the food and then try to send
it back. Or have you ever seen somebody try to
send something back but they want to keep their food too. Yeah,
I want to see this. I want a new like like,
they'll try to take it and you're like, well, you
might as well leave it.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
What are you going to throw it away?
Speaker 3 (30:37):
You know some people will we'll do that and if
you're not the one paying for it. They said it
might not be appropriate to send food back. I can
understand that to a certain extent. But what if you're
on a date and you don't like your food?
Speaker 4 (30:49):
Is it that you don't like it or I don't
know if it's cold.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Because sometimes you might see something on the menu and
you're not sure what it's going to be like, and
they prepare it exactly like what it says and you
just don't like it.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
I don't know if that's okay to send it back.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
I would say, what's wrong? You don't like it? In
USA and I'll say, excuse me the fools? You know,
she not really like guys on it?
Speaker 4 (31:11):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (31:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (31:12):
And you know they said, if you're being treated to
a prefixed mail at a large dinner party, maybe don't
send a dish back for not being exactly what you expected.
If you're invited to a nice dinner and somebody else
is paying, then it's not your place, unless it's like
a worm in it or some type of bud or
like that. All right, and the most important thing is
what type of tone do you have? Use words like
please and thank you and stay calm. You can also
(31:35):
make a joke to ease the situation. And they said
you should not ask for a refund. I agree.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
So there you have it, all right, all right.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
Now, let's discuss some words that are now in the dictionary.
All right, And this is according to Mariam Whipster, the
US's oldest dictionary publisher, there have been six hundred and
ninety new words. And some of the words are busting' okay, okay, yeah,
like extremely good excellent, especially delicious and tasty. That food
was busting in that restaurant every time. I still sent
(32:04):
it back every time I hear busting. It's always in
relation to food. NGL, not gonna lie. I dated somebody.
Everything is NGL like not gonna lie. I miss you.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
NGL.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
You say, you say no, I don't. You don't well, I.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
Don't say NGL.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
No.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
You don't say ANGL is in the diction, but you say.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Not gonna lie red. I feel like it's a young term.
That's the NBA young boyfans love to use the word
mid its mid mid mid mid Bingo card. All right,
I didn't know that. You know, people be like that
was not on my Bengo card for twenty twenty three.
You can say that on Twitter. A lot list of possible,
expected or likely scenarios, especially used in the phrase on
(32:42):
one's Bengo card.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
Now here's the word I don't know. Cromulent.
Speaker 5 (32:46):
Yeah, I get that.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
That means acceptable or satisfactory.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Never heard that one like maybe mano, A woman would
say your performance in the bedroom was promulent.
Speaker 5 (32:55):
That would never happen.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
But I've had better, you know that would never happen.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
No, they'll probably say it was busting excellent buss or
simp is in there now, Jess, And somebody might call
you a simp if you show excessive devotion to our
longing for someone for food. All right, well that is
you're under the radar. And don't forget. We got the
Way Up mix at the top of the hour plus.
We're in Detroit and Hill Harper is going to be
(33:19):
joining us. He is running for a Senate and there's
a lot of things we need to talk about with him,
his acting career, being a union member, also having gone
to school with President Barack Obama, and why he has
these political aspirations. All right, it's way up at Angela Yee.
She's like the talk like they Angela Jean, like they
Angela Jee.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
And she's spilling it all. This is yee te way up.
Speaker 4 (33:45):
What's up? Is way up at Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Jasmine Brand is here, may know is here and you
know we've been seeing this leak footage from this documentary
that Kanye was supposed to be working on from twenty eighteen. Yesterday,
we played some of that footage where he's talking about
Cardi b.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
You push your tea.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Na's not so positive things Tianna Taylor. Now we have
some leak footage where he's talking about Kim Kardashian and
how she called him crazy more than she called him
a genius after he opened up his heart to her.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
Here's what he said.
Speaker 11 (34:14):
I also feel like my wife does believe in me,
but she has a tendency to focus on the negative,
and she'll call me crazy or see you're ramped up
more than she'll say your genius.
Speaker 5 (34:26):
Like I get you're crazy a lot more than your genius.
Speaker 11 (34:29):
In this from this person that has an opening in
my heart because I close my heart to people when
they start being too negative.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
Well, I can see how that could be hurtful, I can't.
I can also see how both things can be.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
True, Right, Okay, he's crazy, that he's.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
Quote unquote crazy, and also that he's quote unquote genius.
It could both of those things can be true. But
you know what I feel like, when you're in a
relationship with somebody and you love that person, people throw
the word crazy at you in relationships like too easily.
Oh you're so crazy, Oh my god, that being crazy,
Like you're crazy, he's just so crazy.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
And I feel like it's nice.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Yeah, it is when you're with somebody and you're for
real dating, but sometimes they are, they really are.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
I can see that. I can see somebody saying that
about both y'all.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Really people have said that I dated somebody who told
me that and it turned out he was crazy. But
I also am very careful about words that I use
about people in relationships because it can really be hurtful
to somebody, and sometimes you put things out there and
you can't take them back and they always remember it.
But I also want to say, why did she call
him crazy? What were you doing? Was there something you
(35:34):
were saying? How were you behaving? I'm sure you know? Yeah,
And then look she he was saying, she didn't really
call him a genius. I don't know if that's in
a relationship, and apparently he needs that. Yeah, all right now,
it just al But in the meantime, was on Changes
with Annie mcmahonus. It's a podcast, and he was discussing
(35:54):
some of the unhealthy habits that he's hoping to break
and some of the problems that he's been working on
in therapy.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
Here's what he had to say.
Speaker 12 (36:01):
I'm an absolute workaholic, and that isn't great for life. Generally,
nothing that's too extreme is good. Everything needs balanced. But
I'm rewarded massively to be a workaholic to someone that
can go, oh, I'm not going to see my family
for six months. I'm in there grinding and make a
new family and then leave them. You know, those are
(36:23):
pathways that I had to be like, I've got on,
I've got to adjust.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
I can see that people do reward you in this
business for being an extreme workaholic. Yeah, and sometimes that
is not healthy. It's not great for your life, your
overall well being. Yeah, for sure. Pastor a Arbernard when
he was up here, he talked about, you know what,
he was becoming the huge pastor of a megachurch like
he is now. He was putting all of that in
front of his family and personal life, and sometimes that
(36:48):
is not healthy. And so I think that is definitely
some things to discuss because people do act like, okay,
you sleep when you die and things like that, and no,
you got to take care of yourself. When I first
started the site, I used to just work NonStop and
really didn't sleep, and I thought it was okay, and
it was not. As you get older and you kind
of have life experiences, you know that life isn't just
about working yourself.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
You're going to enjoy things too, right.
Speaker 5 (37:10):
I enjoyed the time while we hear I.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Want to be like may No Mayo be saving the
city everything. Yeah, he may no works, but he seemed
like he'd be having a blast good time to work.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
Yeah, that's good and that's perfect all right.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
And Jody Turner Smith has filed to end her marriage
to Joshua Jackson. You know her from Queen and Slim,
you know him from Fatal Attraction. They got married in
twenty nineteen. They welcomed the first child in April of
twenty twenty, and Jody Turner Smith recently revealed that she
was a fan of Joshua Jackson's from his Dawson Creek days.
So they met for the first time at Usha's fortieth
(37:44):
birthday party in twenty eighteen. You know, she said they
had a one night stand. If you remember that, that
whole situation. She said, when they first met, they had
a one night stand, and he said, we're now in a.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Two three year one night stand.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
It's cute. Yeah, that is cute. It goes to show you.
It doesn't matter if you wait her, if you don't.
If person is your person at that time, then they
can me. But it was both of their first marriages,
so not sure yet what happened, but we just do
know that she did file for divorce. Okay, right. And
Billionaire Boys Club the clothing line that were started by
Pharrell and Nigo, they have and build a partnership with
(38:18):
camp Kirk Studios in Atlanta, and so what they're the
studio is a place for photographers and creatives that like
to create projects and sharpen their creative skills. And so
Billionaire's Boys Club, they said, has always been at the
forefront of celebrating and nurturing creative talents across the globe
where there is musical artists or visual innovators. So now
they have come together and you can start booking space
(38:39):
and scheduling time at the lab now. So it's open

time is almost out. What day do they have.
Speaker 5 (42:25):
Until I'm gonna say, to the end of the week.
Speaker 4 (42:27):
Is that Sunday or Friday?
Speaker 5 (42:30):
Friday? No, I need a little bit Thursday.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
I know, I gotta get. I gotta get.
Speaker 4 (42:35):
We gotta give Jasmine a deadline.
Speaker 5 (42:36):
But nobody's coming from next week. We said you were
turning this week.
Speaker 3 (42:41):
I know I did. Yeah, she's gonna miss the deadline,
all right, All right, well, you know, but we're gonna
get people to Sunday. How about that you have until
Sunday because people might need the weekend to go in
the studio and come on there work during the week,
you know, give them a little extension. All right, Well,
for my city, challenge. All right, it's way for the
Angela Yee. And when we come back, Hill Harper.
Speaker 4 (42:59):
Is joining us.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
We actually are in Detroit right now, so we cannot
wait to sit down and talk to Hill Harper.
Speaker 4 (43:04):
He is running for.
Speaker 3 (43:05):
State Senate and it's at dirty race, guys, and he
had no idea what was going to be like this.
Speaker 4 (43:09):
It's way up with Angela Yee.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
Okay, yeas you back at it, bring the way up
with Angela Yee.
Speaker 3 (43:18):
Is on what's up? His way up with Angela Yee.
I'm Angela Yee and Jasmine brand is here with me. Yes,
and this is exciting because we have Hill Harper joining us. Now, listen,
you guys, I love the fact that Hill Harper is
running from Michigan Senate. But we've seen him in a
lot of He was in The Good Doctor. Okay, he
was in He Got Game and Too Deep. As a
matter of fact, you know, he's been in a lot
(43:39):
of movies, a lot of your favorite have plenty.
Speaker 4 (43:41):
All eyes on me, get on.
Speaker 3 (43:43):
The bus, I remember him to get on the bus. Yes,
he's been in a lot of great movies. But now
he's up for a new role and that is for
Michigan Senate and we actually had a chance to go
to his house in Detroit. We did beautiful house. Yeah,
beautiful house. It's in Boston, Edison, amazing artwork. We met
his son. Yeah, you know, he's a single father. What
he did not know though, is that running for office
(44:05):
and I know we always hear about, you know, all
of the mudslinging that goes on and people just pulling
up any and everything that they can use against you.
Speaker 4 (44:14):
He is not used to that.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
It's a dirty game. He thought he was going there
be a good person, have great ideas, want to do
better things for the community, and people were gonna be like,
this is amazing. That's not how politics works, as we
can see. But he's going to discuss what it's been
like for him running for office and what some of
his ideas are to move the country forward and to
(44:35):
move the state forward in Michigan.
Speaker 4 (44:37):
All Right, it's way yup. Put Angela yee. Hill Harper
is coming up next.
Speaker 2 (44:40):
Hey, yez back at it.
Speaker 1 (44:47):
With Angela is on.
Speaker 4 (44:48):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (44:49):
It's way yup with Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee and
Dacy Tisdale is here.
Speaker 15 (44:53):
I don't have much to say, because I'm sitting next
to someone who makes me nervous.
Speaker 3 (44:58):
Is one of my favorite actors. And Angela, you Saydale
is incredible. I'm I'm way up. I'm way up.
Speaker 1 (45:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (45:04):
And whenever I go on the radio, I just dropped
my octaves with you because I just want to sound
like it's a velvety, smooth radio.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
And it's so funny because right now, what we're not
focused so much on the acting career as we are
on this new career. Yes, the tube embarked upon, but
just for people who are listening. You know him from
The Good Doctor from CSI New York and the movie
Had Does It Have Plenty, Have Plenty, love forty babies?
That's the line. Noah, that's the line people say.
Speaker 5 (45:31):
And then they're in too deep.
Speaker 16 (45:32):
They tell me, I say a line call you ain't
no cop Jay Reid. And then the line they say
back to me on he got game is I feel
like I'm handsome when I'm on the court.
Speaker 5 (45:41):
That's what they said.
Speaker 4 (45:42):
So classic, these little lines.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
Yeah, these classic, classic lines. But this next thing is
not acting. Okay, this is real life. You're actually running
for Michigan Senate. Well, United States Senate from Michigan. Yes, yes,
United say Senate from Michigan. How many senators are black?
By the way, in Michigan.
Speaker 16 (46:00):
In Michigan, there's never been a black US information There's
only been listening to this, y'all, There's only been eleven
black US Senators in the history of this country. That
means there's been a higher percentage of black US presidents
two point two percent than US black US senators zero
point five percent.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
That's crazy.
Speaker 15 (46:20):
Destroyoit's got the biggest Black population of any city and
they have no representation in Congress at all.
Speaker 16 (46:26):
No, no, this, for the first time in fifty seven years,
Michigan does not have a black Democratic representative in Congress.
Speaker 3 (46:31):
I can overemphasize.
Speaker 16 (46:33):
You know what Shirley Chisholm said, if you don't have
a seat at the table, then you're on the menu.
Speaker 3 (46:38):
And Shirley chism also told us to bring off folding chairs.
You know what happens when we get a folding chair? Yeah,
there you go, There you go.
Speaker 4 (46:44):
It's Angela Yeast.
Speaker 3 (46:45):
Stacy Tisdill is here, and so is State Senate candidate
Hill Harper. Aside from your background that we talked about
in acting, but you also have four decades been doing
this work.
Speaker 4 (46:56):
As far as even with the books.
Speaker 3 (46:58):
That you've written, Yes, you know that at Black Wall
Street that you've done. I want to make sure we
talk about those then, because this isn't just something that
it's like I want to run for us NA, but
this is the work that you've been talking in an
extension that.
Speaker 16 (47:10):
My activism in that work. When I went to Harvard
Law School and I went to the County School of Government,
there were people like Harri Belafonte that I love and
was inspired by, and I was like, well, I want
to be like him, an activist but also using the
characters and the artistry to create positive social change. But
the world has changed. I believe there's really two verticals
of real change that we can make technology and politically
(47:33):
right now. And if we don't have representation politically, in
other words, the easiest way to say it, if we
aren't actually advocating to make sure resources, federal resources go
to marginalized communities and communities that lack agency and voice.
Right now, our federal government is dominated by lobbyists, big
corporate interest, and special interest, all of them funded by
(47:55):
outside money. And that's where the resources are going and this.
Speaker 3 (47:59):
Is a new space for you, mister hill Harper running
for you as Senate and miss Help we were like,
the problem with Hill Harper is that he thinks he
can just win this because he has great ideas and
he's too nice, and there's a lot of mudslinging that
goes on when it comes to politics that I feel
like even you, until you got into it, weren't prepared
for it.
Speaker 5 (48:18):
I was.
Speaker 16 (48:18):
I was not because I didn't realize that people will
lie with impunity. I mean from the second that I
launched there were six seven Lives people tweeting. They hire
people to just do lying tweets to come after you.
They just placed two negative ads about me.
Speaker 4 (48:35):
I saw it just now, just so.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
One of them was about Toyota and they said you
were you know, I saw you with the union UAW
And then they said that you were a spokesperson for Toyota.
Speaker 16 (48:45):
Yeah, like I was anti union. This is like thirteen
years ago. I'm working as an actor, just trying to
get a gig.
Speaker 5 (48:51):
I do it.
Speaker 16 (48:51):
I do a commercial and voice over thing.
Speaker 4 (48:55):
In thirteen years I'm running yeah.
Speaker 1 (48:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (48:57):
But the thing is what's crazy about it?
Speaker 5 (48:59):
That was a job.
Speaker 16 (49:01):
So if you're really going to tell the truth, I'm
part of the union. I'm on strike right now and
I'm supportive. If I'm elected to the US Senate, i
will be the only current union member in the.
Speaker 3 (49:11):
United States Senate. Wow, and that's crazy.
Speaker 16 (49:14):
We want to say it's a representative democracy, but it's not.
Speaker 5 (49:18):
Here's the thing.
Speaker 16 (49:19):
I have no problem people checking my receipts because I
know I've always fought for my community. And the thing is,
I'm not going to do anything that runs counter to
what I believe is the best thing for folks in
communities that have been historically ignored.
Speaker 3 (49:35):
It's Angela Ye, Stacy Tis Dylla is here, and so
it is State Senate candidate Hill Harper. So along those lines,
let's talk about some of the solutions that you have.
Are some of the things that you feel like we need.
Let's bry a couple things down.
Speaker 16 (49:45):
And So I was at the corner of Owen and
Oakland and Detroit headed home, and I was almost in
tears because on the right side was this liquor store,
the left side was this board up buildings. On the
other side was this empty lot where you know, there
was a commercial building we just got destroyed because it
was dilapidated. What we need is funding into our communities,
zero interest loans for entrepreneurs who want to start businesses.
We know that the first three years of any new
(50:07):
business is the most vulnerable, and if we're willing to
spend trillions of dollars to bailout banks, bailout different massive companies,
for a pittance of that, we could be offering zero
interest loans or underwritten loans for local nonprofits as well
as local entrepreneurs and businesses in communities. The strength of
our economy are small businesses because people hire people locally.
(50:30):
So if we want to create jobs in communities, it's
not like rocket science. You need to have functioning communities
where there's a grocery store and then there's a liquor store.
Speaker 3 (50:38):
Too, right, but not just the liquor store, and not
just the minimum an issue.
Speaker 16 (50:43):
Minimum wigs is an issue. I've been a huge proponent
of raising minimum wage. I'm a small business owner myself,
so I own a coffee shop in downtime the Roasting
Plan downtown Detroit, and so our goal has always been
to make sure the young people or whoever's working there
are paid paid a level that matches a living wage.
So you take what they get paid, then hopefully you
(51:04):
know people are nice. Whenever you go to roasting plant,
please tip your baristas. And then the combination of that,
what they're earning on an hourly.
Speaker 5 (51:11):
Basis is a living wage.
Speaker 3 (51:13):
And that's what we have to do for people.
Speaker 16 (51:15):
There's an organization called One Fair Wage that I've been
an ambassador for since twenty sixteen. That's all about raising
the minimum wage and making sure that people get paid
paid a living right. So let's also talk about Voting
Rights Act. The John Lewis Voting Rights Act and John
Lewis Voting Rights and Advancement Act has not been able
to pass through the Senate, and we have to get
that passed because what you're seeing around the country is
all of these state legislators that have an interest to
(51:38):
quell people's power and democracy share and mandering and redistricting
and doing all these things to restrict voting rights.
Speaker 5 (51:44):
We got to get that.
Speaker 16 (51:45):
The other thing is the pro Act again allowing unions
to organize, allowing the National Labor Relations Board to actually
institute penalties on companies that try to crush unions. We're
down to six percent union membership in the private sector.
We need to undergird that, and so we environmental protection.
Let's talk about that. We have to protect our resources.
It's usually marginalized communities that hit the worst by bad
(52:05):
environment pollution, air pollution, lead, clean water, clean water. We
know the story about flint. And then women's reproductive rights.
We have to codify that, you know, and we can listen,
we can go on again.
Speaker 3 (52:17):
And all right, Hill Harper is here and he is
running for a US Senate and he's going to tell
us why and what his plans are. We got more
with him when we come back. It's way up with
Angela Yee.
Speaker 1 (52:30):
You've rid the way up with Angela Yee.
Speaker 4 (52:33):
What's up? Its way up with Angela Yee.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
I'm Angela Yee and Stacy Tisdale is here with me.
We are talking to Hill Harper about his run for
a US Senate. For you being a single dad, I
want to know how that also affects you and your aspirations.
How old is your son now? Seven seven years old? Yes,
so I want to talk about how that played a
role in you deciding that you wanted to actually.
Speaker 16 (52:54):
Run percent It's been a big deal for me, and
it's the reason why it took me so long to
make the decision of whether I do this, And honest
thinking about him as a single parent, any single parent
that's listening, you know, your time is the most valuable
thing you have. And so I had to really think,
is it more valuable for my son to see me
(53:14):
going for something that only eleven black folks in the
history of this country have ever achieved, or me being
able to tuck him into bed every single night and
pick him up drop him off at school. And that's
why the launch video I did is called Deer Pierce.
The video basically goes into the decision to run. And
I hope anybody who's who's listening watches that video, because
(53:35):
this is about every single parent knows exactly what I'm
talking about when you're making sacrifices, because you're saying what's
going to be the best outcome. And I really believe
that him go into picket lines with me, him seeing
me work so hard to achieve something that the outcome
is uncertain, that will be more valuable to him in
the long run than you know, in this period of time.
(53:56):
And so and it's just you know, listen, I'm running
for office for the next you know year and change. Right,
if I'm fortunate enough that folks helped me get the
Democratic nomination and then the election that's in August August sixth,
and then the general election will be in November of
next year. You know this, this kind of full time
(54:16):
twenty four to seven campaign thing is going to be temporary.
But he's getting to witness someone work extremely hard because
the one thing I've always said about me is that
I may not have as much money and resources of
the other folks, but nobody will ever outwork me. No
One's ever outworked me in my life, in anything I've
ever done.
Speaker 4 (54:35):
I don't want to tell you.
Speaker 3 (54:35):
He'll pulled up here alone. I was like, Hey, who's
with you so we can put them on the list.
Speaker 4 (54:40):
He's like, I'm solo, dolo, that's right.
Speaker 3 (54:42):
You want to make sure I was Pierce. I grew
up with the father who was a politician.
Speaker 15 (54:46):
My father got the first who's the first black to
get the Democratic nomination for Congress in the state of Connecticut.
Speaker 5 (54:52):
Wow.
Speaker 15 (54:52):
And he ran the biggest anti poverty agency in the state,
a very high profile congressional campaign that caught President Carter's attention.
We mean him the first black economic advisor.
Speaker 3 (55:03):
That's incredible.
Speaker 15 (55:04):
He struggled with everything that you were talking about and
seeing everything that my father did and how authentically essentially
he was make the world a better place for me
will mean everything.
Speaker 3 (55:17):
That's you And to that point, look great, Stacy turned
out too.
Speaker 16 (55:22):
You're amazing, and we're standing on we're standing on those
shoulders and that's beautiful. And that's the one thing I'll
say to everybody is that I promise you that if
you support my campaign, are given to my campaign, I
will your investment will pay you back. Because we need
leadership that is new, that's not beholden. And the fact
(55:44):
that learning from folks that have come before us and
having an opportunity in a fifty to fifty Senate context
to be able to fight, that's what this moment's about.
Speaker 3 (55:55):
That's what this is. Fifty to fifty is everything. Fifty
to fifty is everything.
Speaker 16 (55:59):
Because then the part he doesn't control the people, the individual.
That's why you see Joe Manchin doing what he's been
able to do, and that is a different type of fight.
And so we got to understand paying people back on
their investment of both their dollars investing in the campaign
and their vote is something that I'm very serious about
(56:19):
and want to and.
Speaker 5 (56:20):
Want to execute well.
Speaker 4 (56:21):
Hill Harper, Listen, we have a fight ahead of us.
Speaker 3 (56:24):
We gotta fight, y'all. It is a real fight.
Speaker 4 (56:26):
And he's not a mud slinger, So I don't know
what's gonna end.
Speaker 5 (56:29):
I don't know.
Speaker 16 (56:29):
You guys gotta tell me what to do. I'm not
a musliger. They keep slinging mound of me and and
I guess I'm listen.
Speaker 3 (56:35):
Talk about heart like. It's really really difficult just to
see somebody who has genuine good intentions have to deal
with something like this because you would be naive to
think that certain things aren't gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (56:47):
Oh yeah, it's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (56:50):
It's good, it's wild.
Speaker 16 (56:51):
But listen, if the people are with me and God's
with me, I mean, that's the thing. That's the beautiful
thing is that I have faith that when you do
the right thing and you work as hard as you can,
then the right things will happen.
Speaker 15 (57:06):
Where can people donate to.
Speaker 16 (57:07):
He'll Harper dot com, backslash donat or just go to
Hill Harper dot com.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
It will pop up.
Speaker 5 (57:11):
You know.
Speaker 16 (57:12):
Two dollars given five dollars every month for the next
eleven months is huge. We are building a movement, y'all.
He'll Harper dot com. So I love love everybody. Thank
you so much for the support.
Speaker 3 (57:22):

we come back, we have ask ye. Eight hundred two

way up at Angela yee. I'm Angela Yee. Jasmine from

y'all to call in eight hundred two ninety two fifty
one fifty if you have any questions, we are here
to help. Hey, Bianca, how are you I'm going well, okay, good?
Speaker 4 (58:02):
So what is your question for asking you.
Speaker 8 (58:04):
So I had been talking to this guy for a
few months and it's like we're like pay school together
all the time. They go streets or whatever. And before
I'm like, I'm like, worry, you know, I want to
make sure he's straight.
Speaker 12 (58:17):
Good.
Speaker 8 (58:17):
Yesterday I just found out he has a whole girl.
So yeah, when we were talking for a few was like,
he's like, he's telling like I'm going through a few
things whatever. I'm like, all right, cool, make sure he straight,
make sure he ate all the others.
Speaker 4 (58:31):
Is he your man?
Speaker 8 (58:33):
And that's the thing we were on the path to
working on that. We were working on that for get Mare.
Speaker 4 (58:38):
Okay, so yeah, okay, right.
Speaker 8 (58:41):
So he told me that he had a girl at
his girl's home and she's tripping. I'm what he was
talking about. Okay, you had a girl who goes yeah,
told y'all going through this stuff. I'm like, but you
didn't think you had a girl?
Speaker 12 (58:52):
You know?
Speaker 8 (58:53):
They said that I wouldn't. I would have entertained this
whole thing period s, even entertained a conversation for an
explanation of why he didn't tell me he had a
girl in the first place. And we don't all what.
Speaker 4 (59:05):
Is well you know why he didn't tell you why?
Speaker 3 (59:09):
Yeah, because he wanted to still mess with her, so
he didn't even bring it up.
Speaker 4 (59:12):
Did you ever ask him?
Speaker 8 (59:14):
Yeah, and you said he only had a baby mom.
I was thinking he said he had a baby mom.
Speaker 12 (59:18):
Man.
Speaker 8 (59:19):
Like I said, we chilling like every wee came wrong? Friends,
family and everything.
Speaker 4 (59:24):
Wos girl?
Speaker 8 (59:26):
Why am I being around your family or friends like that?
Speaker 4 (59:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (59:29):
I mean, look, he liked you, but he also likes
her and he's in a relationship with her. And that's
why y'all were just working towards being in a relationship
because he didn't want to be in two.
Speaker 8 (59:40):
It's like I told him too, I said, if that
was the kids, if you were just trying to get
something sick, you know why he wasn't there because she
wanted to just say that.
Speaker 3 (59:48):
I think I feel like he cared about you or
cares about you.
Speaker 5 (59:51):
So what's that question?
Speaker 3 (59:54):
Yeah, she wants to know how to move forward? Should
she move forward with him? You want to know what
I think? Biaka? I think it's on you now. Right now,
you know the whole situation. There's no excuses if you
choose to continue to move forward with this man. Knowing
that he's been deceptive to you already at the start
of your relationship usually not a great indication of how the.
Speaker 4 (01:00:16):
Relationship is going to go. But that's up to you.
Speaker 3 (01:00:18):
I can't tell you because I could say, hey, bad idea,
And if you still want to be with him, you're
still going to do it. But at least you're going
into whatever you decide to do knowingly take accountability if
you make that decision.
Speaker 4 (01:00:30):
Just understand that.
Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
You've laid down the groundwork for what could be a
shaky start a side piece.
Speaker 8 (01:00:36):
No, No, that's not saying if you told me, if
you were telling me the first place you had a girl,
I wouldn't entertained this whole thing.
Speaker 5 (01:00:41):
Period.
Speaker 3 (01:00:42):
Well now he told you, and so now if you
wouldn't have entertained it. And the other thing is do
you want the drama that you're gonna end up having
with his baby mom?
Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
I just feel like, hey, I found out early run
it's gonna be a blessing guy.
Speaker 5 (01:00:57):
You think you would beat his baby mother? Noy?
Speaker 3 (01:00:59):
No out, Sorry, I got you know what. Don't add
no more geome into your life. You got a lot
going on already. Okay, you can find somebody who can
be honest with you, because I just feel like if
somebody does that and tries to get away with that,
who knows what else they're hiding and who knows what
they're going to do. May I also say that in
(01:01:20):
the future, maybe let's hold off a little bit on
doing like girlfriend things like playing. You know, like she
did a lot for him, she was talking about She's
like she held him down.
Speaker 8 (01:01:29):
That's my problem though I put too much, that's my problem.
Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
I can say that, what's Bika, do you think you
were doing?
Speaker 13 (01:01:36):
Girl?
Speaker 3 (01:01:36):
Girlfriend? Things like what if.
Speaker 8 (01:01:40):
I'm making sure you street, I'm making sure you who
in my house and you eat before you get to
work and after you get out of work, and I'm
making sure that you're sweep.
Speaker 3 (01:01:47):

bit now doing his laundry. Man, it was like, well
that's a dumb Well, thank you being here for you.

make sure you do your part, make sure you educate
yourselves on who the candidates are, you know what's going on.

in all of this. She's our project manager and she

up to date, up to speed. There's certain things that
we didn't know about that she had to really deal
with a lot behind the scenes, and so I appreciate
