supported the K Woods Foundation. So shout out to them,

Speaker 2 (02:55):
You know. Staten Island's there and did in my heart
because my first job out of actually intern for voting

that and we used to do an event called park
Hill Day.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
How good?
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Do you want to shine a light on?
Speaker 7 (03:26):
I would like to shine the lights on my mom,
Janet Aberdeen. Okay, she passed away earlier this year, February fourteenth.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
Speaker 7 (03:35):
Yeah, but she basically yeah, foot me through school and
you know she she was a single mom, and you
know she had two boys that you know, because of
her inspiration, I'm now an investor and entrepreneur, and I
also started my own on Fifth Avenue. I'm that's opening
(03:56):
on January the first.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
What's the name of it.
Speaker 7 (03:59):
It's called the Aberdeen Wellwitch.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
From Wow, your mom your mom raised a rare one?
Speaker 7 (04:04):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, she definitely opening I write hers Anna.
I just want to be able to give her her flowers.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
All right, Well, we definitely give her her flowers today.
Thank you for calling, all right, thank you so much.
Congratulations all right, byell right, thank you. All right.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
That was Shina Light eight hundred two nineteen fifty one
fifty in case you couldn't get through. And when we
come back, let's talk about Kiky Palmer. She has been
granted sole custody of her eight month old son, and
we'll give you all the details leading up to that.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
It's way up with Angela. Yee.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Oh, she's about to blow the lid ab off this,
but let's get it.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
Angela's feeling that. Yee.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Te come and get the tea. It's way up with Angela.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Yee. I'm Angela yee. And g Money is here?
Speaker 5 (04:48):
What up?
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Don't feel good? Friday? Angela?
Speaker 4 (04:51):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
He is my guest host today, but he also is
a professional. He's been doing this for twenty five years,
to be clear. All right, let's get into some yet,
Kiki par and I just want to send her some love.
This cannot be easy. She has an eighth month old
son with Darius Jackson. Now, she's been dating Darius Jackson
since June of twenty twenty one, but according to paperwork,
(05:13):
she filed a request for a domestic restraining order against him.
She's also seeking soul custody of their eight month old son,
and she has been granted that all right temporarily. There's
surveillance footage that shows really shocking images of what looks
like him putting his hands on her, and so this
(05:34):
is just a really sad situation that this even had
to happen. These screenshots are available if you see them online.
In the court document, she said Darius trespassed into my home,
physically attacked me, knocked me over my couch and pinned
me down, and stole my phone after I threatened to.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Call the police.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
She said that he kept repeating that he was going
to take their eight month old sons eight month old
son Leotis to a football game, but he was with
her sister and she then asked him to leave her home.
She said he was yelling, leaning into me, getting into
my face. At that point, he lunged at me, grabbed
at my neck and face and knocked me backwards over
the couch, stole my phone out of my hands, and
then ran out of the house. She said she ran
(06:15):
outside to get a phone back and he narrowly hit
me with his car. She said that her mother and
another one of her sisters were upstairs at the time
and came running to her aid after hearing her screaming,
all right, and after that, Darius Jackson and this was
all on November ninth, posted a photo with him holding
their son and saying I love you son, See you soon.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Now a lot has happened.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Kiki Palmer's mother actually went to social media to respond
to everything that was happening because Darius Jackson's brother, Sharonas posted,
the most disgusting, bile, abusive, manipulative person I've ever encountered
in my entire life, abuses almost everyone you all will
see just in positive energy to the babies. Any child
in the middle of something like this does not deserve
(06:58):
it at all. While so damn sad now he quickly
deleted that post right and KICKI. Palmer's mother responded.
Speaker 8 (07:05):
I went to Sharona's over a year ago and told
him his brother was abusive to my daughter, and he said, well,
I used to be like that too.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
So now he's posting on Twitter like he's this special guy.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
We know he's the biggest square in Hollywood.
Speaker 8 (07:23):
He's disrespectful to women, just like his little brother. He
told his brother how to be abusive.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
All right, so he also Kiki Palmer also detailed another
incident in February last year.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Mm hm.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
She said that he got jealous after she showed a
bikini photo of herself and he slammed her on the
floor slapped her head from side to side.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
She said.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
The next morning, he was standing at the bottom of
the stairs near the front door, screaming at me as
I was coming down the stairs. When I was almost
at the bottom of the stairs, he grabbed me around
the neck and body slammed me back onto the stairs.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
That's not good. That's not a good relationship, especially when
you're trying to take an eight month to a football
game and you upset.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Yeah, that's listen, but I don't get that.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
I'm just praying for her because women will be in
these situations behind closed doors that we don't know about,
and sometimes it's really hard to have to and listen.
We know this because of these court documents, not because
she put this out there. But we are praying for u.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
K Palmer.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
I'm so sorry that this is happening to you, and
for the sake of yourself and your child. I'm praying
for your safety.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
That we know more stuff we don't know.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
I'm sure there is. It's never just these incidents.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
All right, Well, we have some more music to play
for you, and when we come back, we have about
last night, so you can tell us about the foundation
you went to. Right now, though, let's get into some
jay Z and Kanye West. I wonder if they'll do
another album again for real. It's yeah right with Angela.
Speaker 5 (08:43):
Yee about last night last night? Last night I went down.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
It's way up with Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee. But
my guest coast guest co host.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
G Money, I'm here.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
You here, so g Money, you are a radio personality
in Saint Martin, but you're from Staten Island, so you're
back here.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
So you're here a lot. So what did you do
last night?
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Last night? I went to an event at the Staten
The k Woods found that island of Yes, your favorite island,
your second favorite island, the same Martin and the k
Woods Foundation. Uh they do this year they do a fundraiser.
And k Woods, for those who don't know, is the
brother of Ray Kwan from Wu Tang clan and he
does a fundraiser for the neighborhood. He built a brand
(09:25):
new basketball court in park Here, which I know you're
very familiar with Park Hill. And now he's working on
a community center.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
It's Park one on three or four. Is that okay?
One on three or four because that's blutang.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Sons, you know, so zip coas so so. So now
his next plan is to build a community center. He
unveiled the plans and the computer room and stuff. Kill yeah, yeah.
And he does a lot for the community. There's a
lot of organizations in Staten Island that do a lot
for their communities, like Brothers Care also does a lot
of for their community too.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
So let that.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Inspire everybody listening in your communities of things that you
can make happen, you know, when we all come together
in support.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
And I had one brother last night he said, you know,
I wish you was around the older dudes. I wish
he was around when I was around because then you know,
he went to jail. He what he said, I needed
somebody to inspire the ups like what you're ye now.
And he'said, like, I wish there was somebody like you back.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
In my time.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
I think about that too when I was younger.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
If sometimes all it takes is for you to see
somebody doing something or have a conversation to know what's possible. Correct,
All right, well I love that. Last night I was working,
and I've been working a lot lately.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Where are you working? I know?
Speaker 4 (10:32):
So I was filming lip service.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
I'm not gonna name no names, but we were supposed
to have two filmings yesterday, but the first one not
even like was super late when I say late, like
almost two hours late, and then didn't end up doing it, like, oh,
they were supposed to be there at a certain time.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Then they were like, oh, we're going to be two
hours late.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
Male female just asked, oh a male see.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
How y'all do? But yes, And so I was.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
I was definitely irritated because you know, Gigi flies from Atlanta,
which shout out to Gigi for always going really hard
to make things happen, like the fact that she doesn't
miss any episodes and flies in from Atlanta. Wow, you know,
so I always like to make sure we try to
get too off at a time, so it's worth her
taking a flight in and going back home, and so
(11:17):
a lot of things happen.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
You know, we have to rebook the studio. They're going
to be a little bit late. But then it was like, okay,
the truth is they're doing something and they're going to
be two hours late.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Wow, So did they show up at all?
Speaker 4 (11:26):
No, I'm not waiting two hours.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Oh was like, I'm sod, we can't even do that.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
But we did do one taping that was really really fun.
Shout out to Steph g Her episode is going to
come out on Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
It was hilarious. She's pretty funny. I'm not gonna We
had a good conversation.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
We had a good conversation about getting scammed too, because
you know I did that. My two scam story Cartoo
comes out on Monday, by the way, and Gig got yo.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
You just got to hear.
Speaker 5 (11:54):

Speaker 2 (12:26):
It's way up with Angela. Ye I'm Angela yee. G

Speaker 3 (12:31):
I'm charged right now because Ange gave me some coffee.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Yes, not only not just regular coffee uplifts people, but
I put a little chocolate bellies, a little casamigos. You know,
we made some little Friday drinks up here. But right
now we are getting ready for tell us a Secret now,

judging them. They're remaining anonymous and they get to share
(12:54):
with us their deepest, darkest secrets.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
All right.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Eight hundred two nine is a number if you want
to call us up and tell us a secret. Now,
G Money, do you have any secrets?
Speaker 5 (13:04):
Nope?
Speaker 4 (13:05):
No, those are the people you have to look out for.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
By the way, everybody who acts like they don't have secrets,
those are the people.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
That you have to be like, Okay, I I don't
even know what a secret is.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
All right, well, let's hear yours eight hundred two nine
fifty and you're with me on the no judgment, right?
Speaker 9 (13:21):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Absolutely, all right, anonymous call it? What's your secret?
Speaker 10 (13:24):
Yeah, I've been struggling truthfully, Like I'm gonna be really honest.
I'm pregnant too.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Okay, wait, what is the secret? So the secret is
that you're pregnant.
Speaker 10 (13:35):
No, I've been struggling with addiction for like ten years
and I have not been able to get off of
it truthfully.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
Okay, I'm sorry to hear that that.
Speaker 10 (13:45):
Yeah, I thought this would be like the miracle to
like get off of it during it, I still have
just not been able to do it. I have no
support and I live just way too close, way too.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Close to it.
Speaker 10 (13:59):
It's like five minutes you know place, It's like that
close to me, and I don't know what to do.
I don't really have like much in life, you know
what I mean. I don't have like joy or support system,
and I don't really know what to do at this point.
My family doesn't know like that I relapsed on my
drug of toys. It's like a kind of a secret
(14:20):
pretty much, and I don't really know.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
What to do.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
So you've gone to rehab, but then you've gotten back
on drugs again.
Speaker 10 (14:26):
Yes, I've been to rehab truthfully, maybe fifty times since
the past ten years. I've been in and out for
ten years.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Listen, I know that addiction is not easy. But do
you want to get help? Because I know sometimes it
is a matter of you, and I know you do.
I can tell you to do by the fact that
you're calling, Yeah, you know, and you're thinking about this
child that you have, and I want to get you
the help that you need. And the fact that your
family doesn't know about it isn't easy, and you feel
like no one cares and you feel alone. Yes, you
(14:56):
feel like they've given up just because they've seen this
happen so many times.
Speaker 10 (15:01):
Oh yeah, of course my mom is so I feel
bad for her. I love her to death, but I'm
so tired of it, you know. And I've stolen from her.
I've done her so wrong, and she's been nothing but
lips to me, you know. So I feel bad.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
I really do, all right, Well, the truth is, people
do care about you, clearly if they're you know your
family is they do care, but for whatever reason, you know,
this is a disease that you haven't been able to shake,
and I want to get you some professional help.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
So can you hold on the line.
Speaker 10 (15:30):
Yes, is there a place that would take me? The
fact that I'm like pretty much seven.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Months, it's an emergency. I'm gonna hook you up with
doctor Jasper. He's a friend of mine, a really close
friend of mine. But he owns different facilities, therapy facilities,
and he has great resources.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
So this is not something that we're going to take
lightly up here.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
I just want to make sure that I get you
in the best position possible to succeed.
Speaker 10 (15:57):
Thank you so much, really, because I've been wanting to
and most places wouldn't accept me for this reasoning.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
All right, we'll hold on the line.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
Okay, Okay, thank you?
Speaker 4 (16:07):
What's up? Anatamus Kla? How are you?
Speaker 9 (16:10):
I'm good?
Speaker 4 (16:11):
Do you want to tell this a secret?
Speaker 10 (16:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (16:13):
So, uh it's been a couple of years now, but
when I was younger, I was a sugar mamma slash
sa chick.
Speaker 11 (16:21):
For like four years.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Wow, for four years you ever had? Okay, so are
you used to? So tell me, like what that entailed.
Then what kind of things you would do?
Speaker 6 (16:33):
Oh my gosh, I body like a system for a
car and a body like breakfast on lunch every day?
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Wow, breakfast and lunch every day.
Speaker 6 (16:42):
Yeah, I know, I'm adding it up. And it was
something like a thousand dollars stuff on breakfast.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Wow shesh all right, what was it worth it?
Speaker 5 (16:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (16:53):
At the time it was great because, like, you know,
it's so special. But then I'm like, you sit down
and you think about it at night, and you're like,
you're kind of running somebody else's wife at the same comes.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
So when when did you? When made you break it off?
Speaker 11 (17:05):
Honestly he did?
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Wow?
Speaker 5 (17:10):
When do you.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Celebrate Valentine's Day? The thirteenth?
Speaker 5 (17:14):
Fifteenth?
Speaker 6 (17:15):
I want to really know that question. That was the
day where you actually, you know, committed to the relationship.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
On Valentine's Day?
Speaker 5 (17:23):
Yeah? Wow?
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Did he You should tell you he loved you? I
mean four years is a long time that's a relationship.
Speaker 6 (17:29):
Yeah, it really felt like a relationship to me at
the end of it. No, he always tried to play
it off like he never calls feelings, but we're not come.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
Did his significant other find out ever?
Speaker 9 (17:41):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (17:41):
Yeah, yeah, that's why.
Speaker 11 (17:45):
Actually she kind of found out a couple of times
in the middle and even at the beginning, but I
just kept going. He was a chick originally, Like, if
you're a chicking, do not become the main because he's
not going to change. And he and he was, he
was a mary.
Speaker 6 (18:01):
But it was close enough.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Okay, would you do it again?
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Uh no, No, that life is very over last I
had fun Okay, I kind of laugh about it and
kind of feel bad about it. But a girl ain't
got money like that no more.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
How old are you?
Speaker 6 (18:19):
I'm thirty four?
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
How old was he.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Than me?
Speaker 4 (18:25):
That's not Yeah, he's fine. All right, Well, thank you
for sharing.
Speaker 6 (18:29):
You're very welcome.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
Dirty boys young still.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
All right, Well, when we come back, we have yeat
and let's talk about funny Marco. Next up, Chris Brown
was on his show. We'll discuss its way up at
Angela Yee.
Speaker 1 (18:40):

Speaker 4 (18:49):
All right, it is way up at the Angela Yee.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
And let's get into some yea tea all right, Well
started off with Funny Marco and Chris Brown. You know,
Chris Brown has his album eleven eleven, and in anticipation
of that, he sat down with Funny Marco and yet
another Funny interview. Now, Funny Marco asked a really awkward
question about Chris Brown having a baby with a sister
that looks just like him.
Speaker 9 (19:13):
I got a sister that looked just like me, and
she want to have a baby boy?
Speaker 5 (19:16):
You like Haim? Now, no, Mabe, I ain't mean addis
your sister like that? I'm just saying, but no, her
name actually Cruz Ashley.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Hell I won if his sister looks just like him.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
And in addition to that, he also brought up Chris
Brown brought up the ge Herbal situation when ge Herbo
and South Cyber on Funny Marco's show and things didn't
go so well for him.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
Here's what happened.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
Why you let g.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Herbal and be like that?
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Because I was just like in the moment, like damn,
like this happening.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
So you just let light skin just bully you.
Speaker 9 (19:56):
It was like if you was in the car race,
you can't stop it, like as you tumbling, I'm just like,
damn the car tumbling.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
The car when has a car tumbled? Yeah, all right,
so you guys can check out that full interview, which
is great promo. I think with Chris Brown's album, I
didn't see him doing too much, all right. Robert de
Nario's production company, Canal Productions, did have to pay his
ex employee, the one that took him to court one
(20:24):
point two million dollars in civil cases, his executive assistant
who worked there in two thousand and eight and ended
up being vice the company's vice president before she left
in twenty nineteen. So she got that money. Four damages.
And remember she was saying that he had her doing
all kinds of things like going to get a drink
(20:45):
from Nobu in the middle of the night. He even
called her during her dad's funeral asking her to do things. Yes,
and so they did not, however, find Robert de Nario
as an individual liabel for a gender discrimination and retail
alliation claims.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
But it is the company that's liable, Okay, all right.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Beyonce has dropped the new world wide trailer for her
Renaissance film.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
Here's a little snippet of that.
Speaker 12 (21:12):
I close my eyes and travel through realms of space
and time. Reality holds no power or control of my
state of mind. On my voyage to find a source
to charge my inner being assembly line frequency as I
taped my MPC. In this world that is very male dominated,
(21:35):
I've had to be really tough.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
To balance motherhood and being on this stage.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
It just reminds me of who I really am.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
All right.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Renaissance, a film by Beyonce, comes out in theaters December first,
and I did not make it out to any of
the shows.
Speaker 8 (21:54):
I know.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
I feel my.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Daughters went to Beyonce and tell us with it it
both shows.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
Oh wow, I feel like I was at the Beyonce
show though as much as people posted, I'm like, I'm there,
all right. It's fifty seven shows that she did on
this tour sold out, by the.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
Way, fifty seven shows. It's speak of it to chain.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
Bad Baby made thirty eight point six million dollars her
first year on OnlyFans. You know, she started only one
month after she turned eighteen, and listen, that's how much
she made.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
Thirty eight point six million.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Dollars only fans.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
I didn't look so, I don't know, I didn't look
all right, Cash cash me outside.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
All right, Well that is your yeet.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
And when we come back, we have under the radar
the stories that are not necessarily in the headlines. They
are flying under the radar, all right, and you'll be
happy about this. Speaking of shows, the Fujis have been
on tour, so here is some killing me softly.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
It's way yeppy, Angela Yee.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
It's in the news that relates to you. These stories
are flying under the radar.
Speaker 4 (22:56):
It's way up with Angela Yee. And I have my
prolific co host today. I guess you like that.
Speaker 5 (23:01):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Yes, your money is here and but doing under the radar.
By the way, J Cole, whenever he says his rule
about not posting if you didn't know a rapper when
he was alive and don't try to post him that,
what do you think about that? I'm just curious because
that line always sticks out and gave.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Him a thumbs up. When I heard him say it,
I was like, oh, all.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Right, because you know when somebody passes, people can't wait
to post their picture.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Well, they looked for old pictures that I took a
picture with so and so, but you know, you post it.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
But then I also feel like, well, it is an
homage to a person. True, Like if I passed up,
would love for everybody to post pictures with me.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
Let me ask you a quick question. You see on
you in your timeline somebody passed away, like their mother
and their father passed away. Do you give it AKA
like you know what I'm saying, People like, oh, my
uncle passed away and he put it on Instagram or Twitter.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
I think you see people like it, like, I think
you are supposed to like that because it's just show
support you. It would be the worst of somebody posted
it and no one did anything and it just had
no likes.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
I don't know. I feel funny about that.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
I don't want to like that, But if they posted,
that means they want support. So I feel like that's
you know. Let's get into some under the radar Wendy's.
I like to give y'all some good news. They're giving
out free chicken nuggets every Wednesday until the end of
twenty twenty three. Remember McDonald's is doing Fridays on Friday,
so now Wendy's is giving out free chicken nuggets. I,
by the way, do enjoy Wendy's nuggets.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
I just want to throw that out there, they could catches.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
What's the catch so well, Yes, it's available through the
app or online, so you get classic or spicy nuggets
with or without dipping sauce.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
That's gonna last until the end of twenty twenty three.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
And they're also doing a welcome war for the first
time users of the app, giving out free ten piece
nuggets with the purchase.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Yeser not mad at it. I'm not mad at all.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Free all right, now, this is fascinating to me, just
throwing it out there. I just got my real estate license,
ay and hedge fun tycoon Kenn Griffin is building the
most expensive home not just in the United States but
on Earth.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
All right.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
He's the head of Citadel and you know they move
their heads courted some Chicago to Brickle in Miami. So
he's building that there. So now he's just right near Trump, Yes,
Donald Trump's mar A Lago and Palm Beach, Florida. What
he is building right now. He has more than twenty
acres of beachfront real estate. It's on a stretch that's
known as Billionaire's Row. And he's building a one billion
(25:21):
dollar mega mansion, one billion dollars, the most expensive home
on Earth.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
The stories like this are just fascinating to me because
I can't even fathom it. But yeah, so there you go.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
For everybody right now who's talking about the housing market
and how awful it is. Here's Kenn Griffin with his
one billion mega mansion, but he is worth thirty five
billion dollars recording to Forbes. All right, and those are
your under the radar stories now. Marcus Samuelson is going
to be joining us today, a huge, the most I
think famous chef who I know personally. And he also
(25:53):
has the Honeyland Festival in Houston this weekend. And we
got the Way Up mixed at the top of the hour.
It's way up at the Angela Yee will just like.
Speaker 10 (26:00):
To talk like they Angela Jean, like they Angela.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
Jean Man, She's spilling it all. This is yet way up.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
It's way up.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
But Angela Yee, I'm Angela Yee and my fun co
host g Money is here with me today. Yes, we
are wide away from this coffee uplifts people. Let's get
into some yeat. Grammy nominations are in and when I
tell you, the ladies, you just heard Sizza and she
got nominated for Album of the Year, Record of the Year,
(26:31):
Song of the Year. I mean she got multiple nominations,
Best R and B Performance. Also, Victoria Monet, I'm so
happy for her. She got nominated also for Record of
the Year. She was nominated multiple times Best New Artist,
also Best R and B Album, also Best R and
B Performance. Coco Jones got a handful of nominations as well.
(26:55):
I love seeing the women who are running things, all.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Right, So Coco Jones Best New Artist also, she's up
for that, and she's also up for Best R and
B Album and Best R and B Performance.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Nice. Nice, Now you know we talk Grammy nominations. I'm
from the Caribbean, I'm from Saint Martin, so we always
got to talk about the reggae category. Okay, so Best
Reggae Album, Bogs Born for Greatness, Beanie Man, Sima, Collie Butts,
Callie Roots Rhythm two thousand and three, Burning Spear, No Destroyer.
And you cannot have a reggae category without at least
(27:29):
one Marley every year. Now a fact, you go back
every year, it's at least one Marley nominated. Initiates Julian
Marley for Colors of Royal so that's my regah.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
Who you give it to?
Speaker 3 (27:41):
I was not impressed with Bog's album. Sorry to say,
I might have to give it to Collie Butts, all right,
album's nice.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
Where's Collie Butts from?
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Again?
Speaker 4 (27:51):
Bermuda and again.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Of course Angela. Sorry to say. No Soca artists nominated
because we do not have a Soca category, So me
push for that. If you're listening, please, we need a
Soca category for all my Caribbean people.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
Now, let me tell you something. Album of the Year,
because that's one of the big awards.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
All right, so boy genius, Janelle, Mone, John Baptiste, Lana
del Ray, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Sissa and Taylor Swift.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
You got.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
That's a tough category. Let me tell you something. So
many people who I like, I actually do like John
Batist's album a lot. But I will say Sizza Ring
the bell Sos had my heart and maybe I'm biased.
I went to go see her concert too and it
was amazing. But Taylor Swift in the Swifties, that's a
tough one too.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
But if you ask me what Taylor Swift's now been nominated.
She's the first person with seven nominations and now Song
of the Year. All wow, so she also Song of
the Year. Yes, yes, she also tied Barbis streisand for
the most all time nominations by a female artist.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Well, this is all going to be happening February fourth
in l A. By the way, Love Victoria Money's album No.
I went to the actually attended the Grammys once and
I was like, well, I don't really have any reason
to be here. I like to watch it on TV
because there is a long show and you can't like
get up and walk around. So you know, and speaking
of music, since we just did these Grammy nominations, it
(29:18):
is a Friday, so you know what that means.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Music Friday, New music Fridays.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Absolutely, you are such a professional g Money, all right,
So when we come back, we are going to talk
about all of the new albums that are out today,
even some new singles.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
But today is an action pack.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
You know, we're getting into that holiday season time, yes,
and so let's get into some new music Fridays when
we come back. In the meantime, let's throw it back, okay,
to knock it down, because sometimes love will do that
to you.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
Carrie Hill sound and Kanye, It's way up.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
I'm all way up with Angela on now.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
It's way up with Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee. And
G Money is here.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
I like the beat in the background.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
I know he did that on purpose. You hear it now?
G Money.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
You always say that you're from Saint Martin, but you're
really from Staten Island, correct, Okay, but you've been in
Saint Martin for how long now?
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Since nineteen ninety eight. But I've always been going back
and forth with My mom is from Saint Martin. So
as kids summer vacation New York City, we would all
everybody would go down south.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
We would go to the Caribbean, Okay, which is amazing
to be able to do. I would go to Montserrat, yes,
as a kid, while you were going to Saint Martin.
All right, And so you've been doing radio on Laser
one oh one. You have your own show, the AMPM
Worklow Show. But you also are you're like the program director,
our managers.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
What was manager? Program director, music director? I got a
lot of hats.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
And when it comes to Saint Martin, you also represent
the airport.
Speaker 12 (30:42):
What do you laugh for?
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Because it's just crazy.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
I've never heard of such a thing. But you're the
person who's the voice and the face. Yeah, the construction
that's going on.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
At the air Zoe So does a video vlog on
YouTube called Restoring a Princess. And of course if you
have been to Saint Martin, you know we've had our
airport down since Hurricane Irma and what's they're going So
a lot of people are like, what's going on with
the airport. It's not done yet, it's not built yet.
So we decided. I spoke to one of the CEO
and we decided with a little video. So we do
little videos. It's actually a series and we've been nominated
(31:13):
for a couple of awards, actually for a video award,
which actually we won a video award for They didn't
even know that yet, but I'm just breaking news right now,
so yeah, thank you. I didn't get a chance to
get back and tell and that we want a video award.
But it's colled Restoring a Princess and basically it goes
to each episode of you know, the construction, how we
got here and what's new?
Speaker 5 (31:33):
Time?
Speaker 2 (31:33):
I was just there because the construction is you can
see it's going to be amazing, but it is like,
can we get the airport?
Speaker 3 (31:40):
Yeah, a lot of people, a.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Lot of constructions going on. There's no VIP lounges.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
So the terminal, the departure, departure is supposed to open.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
I think this week okay, good in time for the holidays,
because a lot of people actually end up having to
fly to Saint Martin and they go to Anguilla, they
go to Saint Bart's.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
But if you choose to stay in the same Martin,
which I do all the time.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
She doesn't want to say her favorite island, but continue
it is.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
One of my favorite islands. I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
But I do also enjoy other but it is definitely
in my top places to go. I was just there recently,
and you know, I was there for New Year's last year,
and so you know what I will say about G
Money is everybody knows him. So every time I'm there,
I'm in the car when we're in the rental car,
because you got to get a rental car to get around.
Every time you turn on the radio, here G Money
and so just what you do out there, you have
(32:26):
some fun segments.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
I learned a lot of things from listening to the show.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
But everybody really likes you know, how you can go
places and mention somebody, and some people like you and
some people don't.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Everybody loves g money.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
It's a thing.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Okay, my mom's a libra, my brother's a libra. And
you've also interviewed some amazing people too. Can you talk
about that?
Speaker 3 (32:44):
Oh my goodness, I can go.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
We had just had mash out Marshall Montana and he
was breaking down some of the meanings of his songs
and how he wrote You gotta check out. We have
it on YouTube too on the radio station, but he
broke down some of it how he got to write
his songs and actually what the songs are about, and
it's really really cool. Of course, a friend of the show,
Bill Bellamy, Yeah, it comes through with the family all
(33:06):
the time, so shout out to him. But we get it,
We get all the you know. One thing I like
about it because we're in the Caribbean, so we catch
a lot of the celebrities who come on vacations, such
as yourself, and also, of course we do such amazing shows.
We have an amazing carnival. The only island in the
Caribbean that has two carnivals French side, February and April.
No other island in the Caribbean can say that.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Yeah, is that the only island that has two alls separate?
So does that mean you guys have different leadership French side,
Jest side.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Okay, police department, fire Department's a border.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
On the same island.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
You can just drive the smallest piece of land in
the world governed by two different nations, Holland and France.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Okay, Well, listen, we're gonna talk more to g Money.
In the meantime, Marcus Samuelson is about to join us,
and I do want to say this. I was at
the food festival they had in Saint Martin. Yes she
was as well, and that's an amazing experience. And Marcus
Samuelson has a food food festival happening, Honeyland Festival in Houston,
not just food but also music and everything.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
So we're gonna talk to him about that.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
But in the meantime, Kanye is very popular today on
this show, Here's all falls down, It's way up.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
Tu you it way up with Angela Yee. More.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Now, what's up this way up with Angela Yee. I'm
Angela ye And I'm really excited today to have one
of the most renowned chefs literally in the world, Marcus
Samuelson is here.
Speaker 9 (34:25):
Thank you for having me. I am super excited to
be here. Way up, I'm very excited.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
First things first, I want to talk about this Honeyland
festival that is happening this weekend that I am so
excited to go to in Houston.
Speaker 4 (34:37):
So tell us about how this even came about.
Speaker 9 (34:39):
Yeah, I'm g come to my team. It's like, we
want to do this festival. They've been watching what we've
been doing with Hollowing it Up for years, like Halling
it Up is our food festival, halling for eight years now,
and so they came to us like, we want to
put something together that is very very special that both
honors black music. Therefore, you know Mary J. Blige, mom Bee,
(35:00):
all the amazing acts is going to be there a
lot of Houston acts too, and then asked us if
we can be partner and curate the food side.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
So we were like, yes, this is amazing.
Speaker 9 (35:09):
And also to pick Houston us a city, it's just
such a it's such a special place. It is first
of all, it's the most diverse city in the country.
I don't think people even know.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
I didn't even realize that, Okay.
Speaker 9 (35:19):
And where we put it in Sugarland, which is actually
the highest, the biggest population of West Africans. You have
a lot of Nigerians, Canaans, like, it's a lot of
African vibes in sugar Land. So I just feel really
proud as an African to be.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
Able to put it there.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
Right now, we're talking to chef Marcus cmuelson.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
You're from Ethiopia but raised in Sweden and then came
over here and everybody recognizes you obviously from having television,
from winning competitions and then judging competitions and having your
own programming.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
And I want to talk to you about this that
went viral. Keith Lee.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
He's a food critic and he was in Atlanta and
he was visiting different restaurants and he he wants to
go to a restaurant, not as a celebrity or somebody
who's known, but just as a regular person and see
how he gets treated. But then when people see that
it's him, they're like, oh, we can't accommodate you. We
can't get to this table right away. And so he
didn't like that about so he won't go in there
if he's not treated that way from the beginning. But
(36:15):
a lot of these restaurants that are overly booked that
are hard to get a reservation, and they do make
accommodations for people who are are well known. What are
your thoughts about that, because some people think that that's
the wrong thing to do. But then I also understand
as a restaurant owner, you want to make sure that
you are getting that type of viral you know, where
somebody might come in who has a huge following and
(36:37):
post it and that does help the business.
Speaker 9 (36:39):
No, it's super layered and complex, right, but you know,
a VIP, there's many reasons why someone is we sometimes
we call it pats VIP, but sometimes it's also pure
about safety. In all our restaurants, we have a side
rule we can let people in and out because it's
about safety. When we've hosted from the President of the
United States to like, if you're made, you made your
(37:00):
major celebrity, you have to create a safe space for
that person. And it's very hard for somebody else said,
why are you treating them differently? It's all about safety,
So that treatment is actually necessary for certain times do
you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (37:13):
And I'd be like, why are that president of back?
Obama say here? That was what you know?
Speaker 9 (37:17):
But so part of it is that, and I know
I mean reviewing a restaurant, it's very important because for
that family it's their only business most of the time,
so they need they want to get a good review. Yes,
training hospitality is super hard, right because it's a daily thing.
It's not a system that you can just press play.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
And sometimes you can't help how people act that day
system of your customers.
Speaker 9 (37:39):
But I also feel bad for him because now he's
getting death threats or anything like that. You know, I
think actually's intention was actually pure and right, and then
it got left. And you know, I love that we
are passionate and we get involved and we get excited
about that.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
But then also no one should get dest threats.
Speaker 9 (37:57):
They should bet it's only we have to put a
limit to it, because I do think his intention was
actually to share what these restaurants are doing. I know,
we work really really hard on hospitality, and I know
the guys that toast, they work really really hard on
hospitality something and sometimes yeah, Virgil, of course, and sometimes
it can go wrong anyway, right, But I know Virgils
(38:20):
and the team.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
Their intention is really really good.
Speaker 9 (38:23):
And they got two beautiful restaurants in Atlanta. They're doing
brunch all day.
Speaker 4 (38:26):
Listen.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
I go to Toast every time I'm in Atlanta. I
book my flight when i'm leaving purposely. Oh that's why
you don't come to my spot in Atlanta to.
Speaker 5 (38:33):
B and G.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
I'll be there in December.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
Okay, cool, we're in the fourth board.
Speaker 9 (38:37):
No, but I mean I can see it from both ways, right,
But I love that we get passionate about something. But
then we also have to stop because especially the world
is crazy right now, right, so we can go.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
It's not a joke, that's all, you got it.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
You never know when it's really when it's not. You
can say it's just people saying something crazy online, but
you don't know. All right, we have more of it
Marcus Samuelson when we come back. Of course, the honey
Land Festival is happening in Houston this weekend.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
But he's just amazing. Let's get into it. It's way
up at Angela Yee.
Speaker 5 (39:06):
Fab way up with Angela Yee more.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Now what's up his way yup?
Speaker 2 (39:11):
Put Angela Yee I'm Angela Yee, and what an honor
to be joined by chef Marcus Samuelson. All right now,
I want to ask you some etiquette questions. When do
you send your food back? I don't never, I don't.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
It's the chef and me.
Speaker 9 (39:25):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
I know what that person goes through.
Speaker 9 (39:28):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
I'm not the right person that as with my wife
does do she does?
Speaker 4 (39:32):
I barely ever do that.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
It has to be like really really, and I'm very apologetic,
you know every time that I do that?
Speaker 4 (39:39):
All right?
Speaker 8 (39:39):
Now?
Speaker 4 (39:39):
Is it okay?
Speaker 2 (39:40):
When people are ordering in a restaurant and before the
food even comes they ask for all different kinds of
sauces even though they haven't tasted it yet, Like, can
I get hat?
Speaker 12 (39:48):
I think?
Speaker 9 (39:49):
I think the whole point of going out is one
part you want to experience something different. But if you're
comfortable with that, how do the sauces come in? But
try the dish after chef wanted you to be tried.
You can't just I'm going to eat the dish away,
I eat it at home. No, you're out just supposed
to have that experience. You don't have to put ketchup
on jerky.
Speaker 3 (40:08):
You know, it's not something that needs.
Speaker 4 (40:10):
To happen, you know, all right, what about to go orders?
Speaker 2 (40:14):
Okay, Now, I've heard chefs say that a certain restaurants say,
do not do to go because it tastes so different
when it leaves a restaurant and goes home.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
What are your thoughts on to go?
Speaker 8 (40:23):
You know?
Speaker 9 (40:24):
The pandemic, right, it taught us we have to pivot.
I did not want to do to Go for a
long time at Rioster because when you you know, something
like chicken lawfully needs to it can't get moist, it's
not crispy anymore. But we pivoted and people are actually
then we open it to go side of Red Rooster, right,
So you.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Know I I was wrong.
Speaker 5 (40:40):
It worked.
Speaker 4 (40:41):
I've definitely done.
Speaker 5 (40:42):
Some to go.
Speaker 9 (40:43):
Yeah, we have to change, you know, I mean we'd
have mar we have. We don't really do to go yet.
There's a lot of fish. But I think as a
chef you have to evolve and stay open because end
of the day, you have to meet the customer where
the at Okay, washing chicken, you don't.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
Have to do that again.
Speaker 9 (41:01):
My wife does that sometimes. I rinse and I cure
my chicken. I put water and salt in just for
it to get.
Speaker 3 (41:08):
Tightened up a little bit. That's different than washing the chicken. Okay, different.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
Right now we're talking to chef Marcus cmuel saying, all
right now, tipping, even though the service was bad, tip yes,
no matter.
Speaker 9 (41:18):
What, Yes, because that server, that's what they live on.
Speaker 2 (41:22):
What if they were rude and they did not do
things that you needed then to do, they messed up
your order, you waited, they forgot.
Speaker 9 (41:28):
I know, but there is a way to tip, and
then there's a way to communicate that she or he
was rude, right, and both are important, right, you can speak,
That's what the manager is there for. Right, Okay, listen,
I'm going to do this because it's how we do things.
But this was unacceptable and that's actually the house needs
to know that, right because then they can address that
through manager meeting or whatever. But you talk about someone's livelihood,
(41:52):
you know, you have to tip.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
It's part of it, all right.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
Reviews When you leave a restaurant, how do you feel
maybe your experience wasn't great. Did you go and leave
a review or should you talk to the manager or
both both?
Speaker 9 (42:03):
As chefs, we.
Speaker 3 (42:03):
Always think this is where it's supposed to be. We
don't have to listen.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
We have to listen.
Speaker 9 (42:07):
I read every morning.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
We read our reviews.
Speaker 9 (42:09):
We learn from the customers. And if because we learn
a ton, if we think that the customer was not
waiting for the food, and every review says, hey, I
waited for the five minutes.
Speaker 3 (42:19):
Guess what we were wrong.
Speaker 4 (42:21):
You have to we have to be on your business
and in your business.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
And I want to encourage people to leave good reviews too,
because sometimes people only leave reviews when they're mad and
they want to go on there, and we did it.
But if it's great, you know, reviews do mean a
lot too.
Speaker 9 (42:34):
Absolutely okay, and that's how we learned. That's the feedback
that we work on, right, and we need that. When
you are having a dialogue with the guests like that,
the restaurant could actually improve. If we don't have any dialogue,
that's when a restaurant what happened, and then it closes down.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
But thank you so much for coming through. We got
to have you back, like, you know, more frequently, because
I'm just give.
Speaker 9 (42:53):
You a big chew, No, can I just give you
a big shadow? You inspiring so many people, not just women.
You made someone like me think about how can we
reshape our industry. Thank you, so you know I know
your store in Brooklyn and you're going to grow that, Marcus.
Speaker 4 (43:06):
That's been really great.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
We're giving me some direction behind the scenes and talking
to us about our coffee company.
Speaker 4 (43:11):
When we first launched, we sat down and had a.
Speaker 2 (43:13):
Meeting and as you can see, everything you said like
I definitely paid attention and took it to heart. And
I'm glad that we have the lines of communication where
I can ask you. Of course you know certain questions.
But again, thank you so much for Honeyland Festival. How
