What's up as way up with Angela yee, And it's

to shine a light on?

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Man?

Speaker 5 (01:36):
I need to shine a light on my fiancee.

Speaker 6 (01:37):
Her name is Doanetta Thomas.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
She just had a baby for me in the June.
When she first got pregnant last year, I'm not gonna lie.
I was kind of nervous with her. I didn't know
how this was gonna go. But she has been such
a nurturing mother to my child, and you know, she's
been a rock for me. We just moved from New
Orleans to Atlanta, and you know, she followed me to
come here, and we just I love her so much
and I just wanted to give her that recognition she

(02:00):
definitely deserves.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
I can see how that could be nerve wracking.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
You always prepare for the worst, but it's amazing when
the best happens.

Speaker 5 (02:07):
Yes, yes, all.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Right, Well shout out to both of you.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
Thank you, thank you, and happy holidays for you guys.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
All right, happy holidays.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
That would shine a light eight hundred and two nine
two fifty one fifty Just in case you couldn't get through,
you could always leave a message and shine a light
that way. And when we come back, give me on
it is going to be joining us. Twenty twenty five,
he put out his second studio album, Beloved, and he
came up to the show to talk about it.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
It's way up and no beg who about.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
To do this?

Speaker 6 (02:33):
One of lemos to famous women in radio adio mina,
we're talking about Angela. Ye.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
You're way up with angela ye. Please believe that what's.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Up this way up with Angela yee? Let me tell
you something. It is so exciting to have Gibeon here
with us today. You just had some huge announcements.

Speaker 6 (02:48):
Yeah, announce my my sophomore album.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
I love it, belove it.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
And you have such an unusual story because of your talent.
Just even the way when you first came out that
people were hearing about your going on tour with like
a snow Allegra and not even having full no projects.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
It's crazy.

Speaker 7 (03:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (03:05):
I think she was just like was a fan of
just my voice, and it was just she was just like,
I gotta have you here somehow.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Do you know how unusual that is? Like the way
that a lot of things have transpired for you.

Speaker 6 (03:17):
Yeah, And it's like it's kind of catching up now
in the sense of there's a lot of steps I
skipped that I wish I didn't skip because I would
have been able to learn certain things or navigate certain things.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Like what because I know you were discovered basically on SoundCloud,
not a lot of views on the SoundCloud and got
signed off of that, which is like, come on, that
doesn't normally happen.

Speaker 6 (03:39):
They wanted me to go and perform live at a
rehearsal studio to make sure.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
My voice was real, your voice, I'm not gonna lie
and the music your voice don't sound real until this
is how you really talk.

Speaker 6 (03:49):
Yeah, I love it too because it's like that means
it's unique.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
How important is writing for you? Because I know collaboration
is important too.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
It's extremely vital to my authority. But it takes a
lot out of me because I'm going back to specific
places and I'm literally visualizing it and it's like I'm
almost reliving those feelings and emotions again. And especially for
my new album, the vocal delivery is levels above my
last album.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Okay, so you feel like you've outdone yourself. Oh yeah, yeah,
right now you hear it. Give is here with me
talking about his new album Beloved. Let's talk about twenties, Okay.
I think men try to act unemotional.

Speaker 6 (04:28):
I don't know why.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
You know, it's very few men that you could listen
to and he's talking about the heartbreak that he went through,
or I'm wasting my time with her, or even rather
be with you than someone new. I feel like women
stay in relationships a lot because of that, and we
talk about it and men do it, but they don't
express it.

Speaker 6 (04:47):
That's one thing I want to push to the forefront,
like I'm not numbing my emotions. I'm sensitive and emotional.
It's also not healthy to me. So it's just like men,
y'all need to y'all need to cry a little more. Also,
girls love it. Oh god, yeah, I was love and emotional. Man,
it's not too like on hands. But it's like if
you if you han't a long day and you come

(05:10):
to your lady and be like I had a long
day and just lay on her lap. She loves that.
She's gonna rub your head and she's gonna be like,
he feels safe with me.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I'm gonna now give you on do you take accountability
for the things you do in relationships?

Speaker 6 (05:24):
Yeah, but I ain't gonna put it on why that's
another album?

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Because I feel like you're talking about some smooth things
that you have going on. It's making me be like, Okay,
he ain't just getting his heart broke. He's doing some
heartbreaking too.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
But it's also I was just correct, like to set
it up, but no, but I think it was also
so I just turned thirty like four months ago, and
people are asking me like, how does it feel to
be thirty. I'm like, it feels the same, but I
can't it hasn't felt exactly the same. There's just a
level of awareness. So whenever I if I was, when

(06:01):
I was in the wrong, I genuinely didn't know any better.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Like in your twenties, like you said in the song,
you were learning yourself yeah too and learn yeah yeah.

Speaker 6 (06:09):
And that's why I say six years going down to drain.
I guess I'm half to blame.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Okay, that's accountability. You know, half of it is your fault.

Speaker 6 (06:17):
Half of it.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
We got more. We're giving you'm when we come back.
It's way up.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Yeah, you want to know my name? Way up with Angela?

Speaker 5 (06:23):
Ye?

Speaker 3 (06:25):
What's up? Is way up with Angela?

Speaker 8 (06:27):
Yea?

Speaker 3 (06:27):
And what an honor to have givey on here with me?

Speaker 2 (06:30):
What do you think it is like in relationships that,
like you said, you were learning in your twenties, Yeah right,
But what is it that like hasn't connected? Like what
are some of the themes that you see and things
that haven't worked out for you?

Speaker 6 (06:42):
I grew up in a very masculine, overly assertive household,
and you can't talk to I mean, I'm sure you
can't talk to men like that, or you you for show,
can't talk to women like that. Even if it's like
you feel like you're right or you're a misunderstood that's
just a way to speak. So I think my delivery,

(07:02):
I think it always would get me into a place
where i'm just it'll make something bigger than what it
has to be.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Give me an example.

Speaker 6 (07:09):
Let's say I'm dating someone she's.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Like, you didn't text me for it, or before you
went to bed, my.

Speaker 6 (07:15):
Bad, I'm sorry I wanted to sleep. Then it's going
to be like, well you still could. I'm like, I
would be like I just said, like I just said,
oh sorry, Now we're about to go on the blow
and I'll just get riled up. But now I'll probably
be like, I understand where you're coming from, but I'm sorry,
I didn't mean.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
It, and you're right.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
It is a lot of times delivery and communication because
it probably isn't easy to date somebody like it.

Speaker 6 (07:37):
No, no, But I'm also still finding the answers, and
I also learn it through songwriting. I'm still kind of navigating,
like why does this work right?

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Right now? You hear it?

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Give On is here with me talking about his new
album Beloved, and look, let's bring that to the other
song because I love this song rather be I look
at it like sometimes we stay in something that may
we shouldn't because it's better than the unknown.

Speaker 6 (08:03):
I was writing that from a place of whatever flaws
that I'm happening in this one. It was happening so
many times that I'm just gonna be like, Oh, this
is always going to happen no matter what relationship I'm in.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
See, there's a thing. That's how I was saying, what
is it?

Speaker 2 (08:16):
That is a common thing that you see in relationships
that don't work for you, So it keeps something happening.

Speaker 6 (08:22):
Yeah, at some point I gotta be like, at some
point I'm just like, wait, hold on, why is the
same thing happening? And then it could be hopeless about love,
like this ain't gonna ever work. And I think that's
like what thirties about, Yes, accountability.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
The album is called Beloved, and so, like we said
when we saw the trailer for the album, it's a letter.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
So this is a letter to someone.

Speaker 6 (08:45):
I wanted to feel, like a letter to the listener.
Here's the story. If you're wondering where I've been at.
I also, I'm just a big fan on multiple meanings.
So Beloved, Beloved, it's a lot going.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Okay, yeah, but listen, I appreciate you. I know you
got a ton of things you're doing. But now that
we're friends, next time I'm gonna get more into your
business and I'll tell you congratulates us and everything. Honestly,
so excited that you came here because, like I said.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Your mystique, I know you don't go everywhere. So I
appreciate you. Yes, no, thank you, that was give on.
Thank you so much again for joining us.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Check out that full interview on a Way Up with Ye,
and we do have the Way Up mixed for you
at the top of the hour. Plus, Kisha Cole is
going to be in the building. She always keeps it spicy,
so love to sit down and talk to her.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
Kisha Cole.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Definitely, we should always be thankful for how much of
her life that she gave to us and just the
fact that she's been through so much and has been
so transparent. So looking forward to talking to Kisha Cole.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Is Way Up with It's relationship for career advice, Angela's
dropping facts. This is ask ye what's up?

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Its Way Up with Angela.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Well, I'm here, Mano's here and we have to ask
Ye on the line, Khaliah, what's your question today?

Speaker 3 (09:51):
For ask Ye?

Speaker 4 (09:52):
I was wondering if I should be the bigger person
and reach out to my son's father.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Okay, what happened?

Speaker 5 (09:59):
So?

Speaker 8 (09:59):
My my son is six and his dad has only
seen him once in his entire life and that was
just because we pumped into each other at Walmart.

Speaker 6 (10:09):
So you don't want to be in your son's life.

Speaker 8 (10:11):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
It's like he denied him. It was a lot because
he's dark skinned. My son is light skin. You know,
we got the DNA.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Test and it is his.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
But then my son also has autism. He's like, I
don't know how that happened. It must be on news.
So yeah, we don't really.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Oh that's awful when you really need that extra help anyway,
Like it's already difficult enough, So what is it that
you want to do?

Speaker 4 (10:36):
I want to reach out, but at the same time,
I don't want the headache if it turns into you know,
like constant arguments or trying to force a child on him.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Number one, reaching out is not for you.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
It's for your son. So what about his family? Are
any of them ever involved?

Speaker 3 (10:54):
No? Do you have a monchale support or anything.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
He is paying child support?

Speaker 6 (10:59):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (11:00):
Does he always or he's ordered to pay it? Does
he always pay it?

Speaker 1 (11:03):
No?

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Okay, so he's really just getting away scott free like
from his responsibilities.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Yeah, I do think.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
It's worth having a conversation about are you going to
step up or not and giving him the opportunity and
space to do that. I know that sometimes when people
break up it can be not an easy time. But
as things start to calm down and feelings and emotions
calm down, sometimes that's the time to do it.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
And at the end of the day, it's hard.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
To force somebody to be in your child's life when
they really don't want to. So all you can do
is do your best in giving that opportunity.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
If he doesn't take.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
It, is that's on him, and that's going to be
his crust to beer later on in life when he
regrets not having been there the way that he should have. Okay,
And it sucks that you have to be the quote
bigger person, but this is not about you at all.

Speaker 8 (11:50):
I've reached out before, but then it always led to
like some kind of argument and then we stop, you know, communicating,
and then we ran into each other Walmart, which is
the first time he saw him.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
Like, we don't even have each other's phone numbers there.

Speaker 6 (12:04):
Yeah, that's crazy.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
Yeah, I'll reach out.

Speaker 6 (12:07):
How do you reach out to him?

Speaker 4 (12:08):
I'll reach out to him on Facebook.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
All you can do is make that effort.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
And if he's not going to step up to the plate,
forcing someone to do that is really hard, you know,
continue to make him financially handle his business. I see
why people be blessed to people online though, you know
how people be like, oh, why do they have to
put it online? Because you try every other avenue and
when this person is just not responding and just know
that time is something that you can never get back,

(12:33):
and this is going to be his problem later on
when he's like, dang, I should have really, you know,
did more?

Speaker 4 (12:38):
Yeah, okay, but.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Good luck and thank goodness your son has you?

Speaker 4 (12:43):
Thank you?

Speaker 2 (12:44):
That was ask ye eight hundred and two ninety two
fifty one fifty. In case you couldn't get through, you
could always leave a message. Definitely, We'll get to your
question and help you out any way we can. And
Keisha Cole is going to be joining us.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
I feel like we.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Don't get a chance to see her or talk to
her that often, but when we do, it's always a pleasure.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
It's a treat. Its turn me up here, we go
up there.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
This is way up with Angela.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
What guys, Yeah, I'm here with Maya and you. We
have so many great Keisha Cole stories, right like any
story I have about is a fun, positive one.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Oh God, bless you, thank you so much. We have
been one. May not have one that when you.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Do something you know he always did you know that
story right there?

Speaker 6 (13:26):
You know that story.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
It would have never came out of may when said I.

Speaker 9 (13:29):
Love that story. Though, it's a good story, great how
we met though that the fact that you really was
looking for me and really had some smoke.

Speaker 10 (13:37):
That is not okay, that's but it was all right
because it was it's really who. I never knew you
were just getting out of jail. I never knew that,
But I would have known that. I want to would
not have said or and been by myself, don't know
this story.

Speaker 6 (13:54):
So so what happened.

Speaker 9 (13:55):
Cole was new in the game, I was brand new.
So she was hanging out with ram One day I
got the Sony studios and they was like, yo, look
was just looking for you.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
It was mad and I was like, for what.

Speaker 9 (14:06):
But then I remember that I had a song where
I had like set a little slick line. It was
like a little metaphor and said her name. It wasn't right.
It was something like I'm doing something with Kesha Cole
or whatever.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
It was a slip line.

Speaker 10 (14:19):
Okay, I don't remember the line is crazy, that's crazy,
but it was a metaphor.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Never knew that even met.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
When I seen him, I said, he was like, well,
what's the problem with your people? Hold on, we're your people.
But what happened was this myself. What happened was this.

Speaker 9 (14:36):
Though I went to Ruby Falls right after that because
I just missed them at the studio.

Speaker 6 (14:42):
They was riding around in Remy six. He was looking
for me.

Speaker 9 (14:46):
When I got to the club, I'm showing the DJ
Boof is up in the sky.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
I just started somebody.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Lemons at me.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
She was like, I got a man, and I said,
I come from and.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
See where you'll be at.

Speaker 10 (15:07):
You were starting somebody that you hurt.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Me, like I didn't ever know that that, Like.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
That's funny because you were knew you believe you you
were used to people just saying names and random people
they didn't know, right, And this.

Speaker 6 (15:22):
Is at the time when I was like just getting on.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
I didn't even think they would even hear that.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Right now with me and and we are talking to
Keisha Cole, did you think it was.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
A compliment when you did it? What like saying did
you think it.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
Was that was?

Speaker 6 (15:36):
It was just always saying.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
She said, it's a compliment.

Speaker 10 (15:40):
That's kind of how like me and Kim fell out
a bit, Like I was like, yeah, because she loved me. No,
so she like, well, yeah, I heard your people was
looking for my people and your people.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
I was like, wait a minute, that is not what's happening.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Wait a minute, Like how.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Did I become like a target in this? Like, yeah,
you said something about me. It was a bad thing,
but but it was a good thing because we got cool.

Speaker 10 (16:08):
And I said what she has said that like people
say things about me, like they fantasize about me.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
They say things. But I wasn't used to that, right.

Speaker 9 (16:16):
So so if somebody says something like that today, being
that you've been in the game this long, would it
bother you to say I.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Would hope my boyfriend was not me.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
They're gonna walk up to somebody and fight at that time, bunch,
your boyfriend mad about it.

Speaker 10 (16:30):
I don't think my boyfriend was mad about it. I
think was more mad about it because she was like.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
You ever met him? I'm like no, She's like, well,
why is he saying?

Speaker 1 (16:38):
I don't know?

Speaker 3 (16:40):
You about to find out?

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Okay, So she was the one to put the battery.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
I love that. Yeah, gush, let's it was riding around.
Keisha is here with us, and we got more when
we come back.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
This way up you way up with angela ye?

Speaker 10 (16:56):
More?

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Now what's up?

Speaker 3 (16:57):
His way up with angela Ye? I'm here, may no.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Here, I'm here baby, and Keisha Cole is with us.

Speaker 9 (17:03):
Your music come from a painful place right and right now,
with what you're going through right now, so.

Speaker 6 (17:08):
We should be hit.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
We know you're doing the twenty I'm in pain, but
you just went through a breakup.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
Are we gonna get some breakup songs?

Speaker 3 (17:16):
But you're gonna get some love making songs? I missed
that making song? Do you guys?

Speaker 4 (17:21):
Past time?

Speaker 3 (17:22):
I ain't got to do with that.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
You don't FaceTime anymore? When he pop out at some
of the shows and.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
There's nothing about that. How do you think he a
phelith you?

Speaker 6 (17:34):
So?

Speaker 3 (17:34):
Are you with someone else?

Speaker 7 (17:35):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
You would have to ask him.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
It feels like you're holding back on saying things because
you're trying to protect him.

Speaker 10 (17:41):
Well, I respect anybody that's not.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
In the room.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Now, do you get great d ms checked up like
a Niki store.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
I mean, I don't be open at them. But even
if it's somebody good that you're like, maybe I want
to respond mm hm, basketball players and football players. No,
it's a dub you like tall guys?
