Speaker 2 (00:06):
Ye oh, yes, it's way up with Angela.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Yee can y'all hear me?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Loud and clear and clear? I am in the d
what up? Though I'm in Detroit broadcasting live. I was
actually at the Global Citizens Now event that was happening
for the first time in Detroit yesterday. So shout out
to everybody that was there. I'm gonna tell you all
about it and about last night. It was quite inspiring.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Since I'm in Detroit, I swear Buzzo is about to
pull up and guest host with me today. If my
voice sounds a little raspy, it's because we got a
lot going on out here. In addition to that, I
have my dear friend Natory, Nutt and Lewis joining me
alongside Jay Ellis talking about the Broadway Off Broadway play
Duke and Roya, which I had a chance to go
(00:56):
to opening night for that. You know, I'm very into
the theater. Dan, you need to go to your wife.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yes, I do to a play. Yes I do.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Easy Date Night, that's aat and you guys would love
this is Yeah, it's actually about kind of like a
forbidden love type of thing, you know, Jay Ellis plays
a rapper. She and he falls in love with the
girl who is in Afghanistan. It's all in the middle
of like the war torn situation, but you got to
see it. It's really good. We'll talk about that today.
(01:23):
And we got some special new music for y'all that
we're going to be playing all morning. You are so
excited about this, you said, today's a great date. Great
new music out today. Let's get into Chains and the
Whips by the Clips featuring Kenjick Lamar off of their
new album Let Guys Sort Them Out, period.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
This way up, turn your lights on, y'all, spreading love
to those who are doing greatness.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Shine light.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
It's time to shine a light on them, all right?
Speaker 2 (01:57):
His way up at Angela Ye, and it's time to
shine a light. Oh Inveszor just walked in the room.
Let me make sure I have the right mic on.
Do it again. There we go, Now, I got you. Okay,
all right, we're gonna get him some headphones, get situated.
But today I want to shine a light on a
woman who actually has built a brand based off of
things she went through in her life, Kayla Rowe. She
went from being five months pregnant and excited about baby
(02:20):
clothes to all of a sudden having a miscarriage. And
what that did teach her though, was more awareness about hygiene,
feminine hygiene, and she started her own feminine hygiene brand
called her Fantasy Box. She wanted to help women of
all ages if you were going through a pregnancy, loss, menopause, postpartum,
things like that, older irritation. She wanted to help them out,
(02:41):
but she wanted it to be something that was organic.
So she said it was a reclamation of trusting her
body and a way to help other women do the same.
So shout out to her for that and her Fantasy Box.
All right, now, at least, who do you want to
shine a light on?
Speaker 5 (02:56):
I want to shine a light on my daughter today
as her second birth day two years.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Oh is that your only child?
Speaker 5 (03:03):
Yes, ma'am?
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Okay, what's her name?
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Leela Carter?
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Leela Carter, that's her beautiful name.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Thank you, congratulations to you on your baby girl, and
happy birthday, and thank you at least for.
Speaker 6 (03:17):
Calling of course too.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Okay, take care you too.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
All right, Well, that was shine a light eight hundred
and two nine two fifty one fifty just in case
you couldn't get through, you can always leave a message
and talk to us that way, and when we come back,
we got your Yet, we'll discuss Sierra from Love Island.
She has spoken out after leaving the show or being
asked to leave, and we'll tell you what you had
to say. And taking accountability is way up.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
The rooms from industry shade to all of gossips out
Angela's speeling that yet all right?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
His way up with Angela yee, and it is time
for your ye eat I swear vessels here, are you
ready to do something? Let's get it already some yet
and you bought me some fresh and pressed juice, but
I appreciate fresh and pressure. I was like, please bring
me some juice. Okay, Well, let's get into Love Island
now for full transparency. You don't watch the show, but
you know what's going on.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
You do know what's going on, saying on eggs all right.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Well, Sierra was kicked off the show and it was
very dramatic because somebody brought up a post where she
uses a slur against Asian people sword yes, the sea word.
And you and I had a conversation about this. You
actually a lot of people didn't realize this was a slur, but.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
You did, Yeah, I did. I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota,
and so it was a lot of Asian people in
our neighborhood. And when I was young, we go to
school like we would say that word when we wanted
to be offensive, Like we knew what we were saying. It's
the same as the word that offends you know, blad
work exactly, you know. So yeah, I definitely knew for
a long time, for years, like over twenty years.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Well here is what she had to say, because now
she is speaking out. You know, her parents have put
up posts saying that they were getting death threats and
all kinds of things. Well here's what she said.
Speaker 7 (05:04):
I want to first start by addressing not just anyone
that I have hurt or deeply offended, but most importantly
the entire Asian community. I am deeply, truly, honestly so sorry.
I had no idea that the word held as much pain,
as much harm and came with the history that it did.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Yeah, And the first thing I say was she Pavidyen.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
No, I don't believe she knew. Yeah, I genuinely don't.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
And she went on to take accountability though, because you know,
even if you don't know and you did offend people,
you still have to say I messed up. Here's what
she said.
Speaker 7 (05:43):
I completely agree with the network's decision to remove me
from the villa. I think that this is something that
deserved punishment. I think the backlash has obviously been very
hard to deal with. But I understand that people are
kind of confused on why I would have even said.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
That sounded like real accountability though, Like she really, you know,
that's real. That's a genuine apology. Yeah, you can hear it,
you know. She like she said, she accept everything that
came from it and everything.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
All right, Well, let's see what's next for her after that,
because she was definitely one of the favorites on the show.
All right, And another thing I want to talk about
is tonight, as we're getting ready for this boxing match,
let's talk about everything behind Katie Taylor versus Amanda Seruano.
This is their third matchup. Have you watched the previous ones?
Speaker 1 (06:33):
I have, girl, they really good. Both of them are
really good. I give them that. And the reason why
they fights are so big is because you know, they
going blow for blow like it's no empty spaces in
between a match, like they both fight to the end.
And after the first fight, you know that the first
fight I went viral, so everybody was prepared for the
(06:53):
second fight. So this fight gonna be crazy.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
All right, Well, I think I'm rooting for Amanda Serrouno
to put that out there right now. She's more powerful,
I feel like. But as far as Jake Paul, this
is an all female boxing card at the Garden, and
he's actually breaking records, a Guinness World Record for promoting
this fight too, by the way.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Yeah, so shout out to him. It's three undisputed championship
fights and two unified championship bouts in total. So that's
what's gonna set that new Guinness World record if everything
happens according to Plant and it's on Netflix. Yeah, so
everybody has a chance if you have Netflix or you know,
lock into your ex's account, whatever you gotta do. All right, Well,
that is your ut. When we come back, we have
(07:35):
about last night. We'll discuss what we did last night.
I want to hear what you did. And of course
I'm gonna tell y'all why I'm in the d It's
way up.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
So about last night. Yes, I went down.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yeah, it's way up at the Angela yee, and it's
time for about last night, I swear Vezzo. We in Detroit,
so I had to have you pull up? What did
you do last night?
Speaker 1 (07:57):
So I just got back from Florida. I took my
kids to Adventure Island. We were supposed to go to Disneyland,
but they like no Disneyland kind of born, so they
want to go there.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
I still been to Disneyland.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Listen. I had a crazy way. It might be a
little too low to tell. I can make it short
if you won't. Yeah, so chick this out right. So
we had Adventure Island. We decided to go on the
roller Coast. My son kept that I want to go
on the roller coast. I gotta go. I'm like, son,
you're not tall enough. So I found found one that
he just made heypfolk. So the line looked as short
(08:30):
at first. We get through, then we see the line
mad long. So we stand in the same spot about
fifteen minutes. I tell my daughter, look something, all right,
it's the reason why this line is long and all
the other lines is short. You need to leave. Just
just don't even get on this ride. So as we're
going on, we get closer to the ride, I asked
my son, son, you sure you want to go on
this ride? He like, yeah, Dad, I'm sure. I'm happy.
(08:51):
He said, are you excited? I'm like yeah, I'm real excited.
He said okay. Soon as we got ready to get
on the ride, I'm like, vido, listen, we can leave
if you want to leave. Son, Like, I don't like
the way your face looked. He said, you happy, Dad.
I'm like, yeah, I'm happy, but we can leave. I'm
proud of you regardless. So like, no, I want to
get on. Get on the ride, start off regular. Then
it just gold like a bullet train, my son sent
(09:13):
my son, so I grabbed his head, I put his
head in my shoulder and everything. I'm like, baby, it's okay,
We're gonna be all right. So after about thirty maybe
like thirty five seconds, he crying. He going right, I say, Son, listen,
it's over. It's done. We're good. It's done. Get up,
That's what I tell him. Like we made it through.
So we in some like cave thing. It get dark
(09:35):
and it sounded like the power went off. Soon as
I said, we're good, son, it's all over. The ride
went in the air and then just dropped, and then
after so after the drop, he sent after the drop
that the ride went backwards like a bullet train. I'm like,
oh my god, I felt so horrible. And then I realized, like, man,
(09:59):
I think so I only went on a ride to
make him happy. He kept saying he wanted to get
on a big boy roller coaster. But come when it
got around to what I think he got, well, I
know he got on the ride to make me happy, right,
So I'll ask what you happy exactly? I felt so bad.
I'm like, oh my god, that's so funny. Well, good, good, lesson.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Learn, Yeah, absolutely, for your son, Like if you speak up,
if you're not sure, speak.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Up, yeah, absolutely, what you are going on? What you do?
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Well, I'm gonna talk about it a little later because
global citizens. But you know what we gotta do right now.
We gotta get ready to tell us a secret. Okay,
So you know this is a part of the show
where people call in anonymously, and you know how this goes.
It's a no judgment zone. People are going to call
in and tell us a secret. Eight hundred two ninety
(10:47):
two fifty one fifty's. I know you're good at not
judging people.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
I'm gonna do as best as I can.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Oh man, he's being on this. Eight hundred two fifty
one fifty Get on this. Tell us a secret ride? Okay,
don't here exactly sure you want to do this. Ten
hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty is me and
ice wear vessel. Call us up and tell us a secret.
It's way up.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
This is a judgment free zone. Tell us a secret.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
What's up? Its way up at the ANGELA Ye is
me and ice wear vessel. And I know y'all are
blowing these phone lines up right now for tell us
a secret, right yeah, call us right now, all right.
Eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty anonymous color,
what's your secret?
Speaker 5 (11:27):
I was dealing with this guy on and off for
like two to three years. Come and find out I
parted this job and his wife worked at this job.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
What that's crazy?
Speaker 2 (11:39):
But you knew he had a wife or no?
Speaker 5 (11:41):
Of course, you know how some people just do it
then and if some of them got you know, someone married,
but it is what it is. They go back home
in eight you know.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, I mean I didn't.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Yeah, I didn't care.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
But the thing is, I never one thing about me.
I never asked about anybody. Watch, I don't care, Like,
oh you don't.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Why don't you care?
Speaker 5 (12:02):
Like I don't care? Like, so my thing is this,
I liked him. We'll go out to the bars, we'll
gon have drinks, we'll bust it up. You'll come to
my Chris, you know, we'll go out. We'll just have
a good time. And next you know, like, I'm at
the job, Like what you're doing?
Speaker 7 (12:16):
Here?
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Is his wife?
Speaker 6 (12:17):
Cool?
Speaker 1 (12:18):
I'm so do you know the wife like you? Like
you are? She worked at your job, so you already
got a relationship with her like something like some type
of relationship.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Yes, I hope they not listening, but yeah, are you
gonna cut it off?
Speaker 5 (12:33):
So basically I've been kind of cut it off.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Do you hang out with his wife?
Speaker 7 (12:36):
Though?
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Like if if his wife was like, hey, you want
to go out for drinks, you'll go, you know what?
Speaker 5 (12:41):
All just the respect to her and I know who
she is, I won't do it.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Uh, I won't go.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Well, thank you for sharing with us?
Speaker 5 (12:47):
Uh huh, y'all welcome?
Speaker 2 (12:48):
All right? Hanging on him as color you want to
tell me in secret.
Speaker 8 (12:53):
Watch, Well, I'll watch the girl and I pretended I
couldn't read so I could get close to her.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
And how did you do that? Like, what do you
mean like she like a tutor or something?
Speaker 8 (13:07):
She was a friend, she was doing tutor and then
I caught her out like I couldn't understand, like trip
with big words, and we got close. She helped me
out with big words. I feel so bad because she
started putting with flash cars and all that.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Stuff she gave you, Flaska, that's so nice, impatient of her.
Tell me how you were sounding it out?
Speaker 8 (13:25):
First? I was like, well, the big words excused me,
so I was getting angry, like the community of right,
and then I just got, you know, slowly better over time?
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Did the plan work?
Speaker 8 (13:42):
If anyway? That's why I felt so bad about it.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Man, it could have been worse, bro, Yeah, that's not
like that.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
That's kind of cute.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Yeah, it ain't a bad tech. That's a good love story.
Speaker 8 (13:51):
I hope she's listen to the show.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Right.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Well, you know, you can always credit her for helping
you read better.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Right, have been worse, man, do a lot weirder stuff. Yeah,
it wasn't it wasn't the worst, right, all right, well,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
For sharing with us.
Speaker 8 (14:07):
Love the show a good one.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
That was very magnanimous. Yeah, that's my big word for
today's all right, Well that was tell us a secret
eight hundred and two ninety two fifty one fifty one
was cute, one was not so cute.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Crazy the first time. Oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
All right, and when we come back, we got your
yee t and let's talk about this Cat Williams interview
on seven PM in Brooklyn will tell you some of
the things that Cat Williams had to say, because you know,
he goes viral.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
He did another one.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Yes, he did another interview and he addressed some other things. Yeah,
it's way up. You're about to the lid off this spot.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Let's get it.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
Angela's feeling that yea tea, Come.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
And get the tea. It's way up at Angela.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Yee I'm here in Detroit and I got my guy
Icebear Vessel with me. Listen, we do like our full
yet behind the scenes, we're prepping for each break. But
we do have some breaking news. Gavante Davis Tank was
arrested for domestic violence. This is according to TMZ Sports.
(15:14):
He was actually booked early this morning, and according to
Andy Slater, who's a reporter, there was an alleged altercation
between him and his ex girlfriend that happened a few
weeks ago and he's been wanted by the police ever
since that incident. He was pulled over by cops in
Miami Beach and that's because of his license plate tipping
off the authorities.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
Sheesh, crazy. We gotta get better, you know, we just
got to get better as men, as black entertainers, just everything.
You know, it ain't even about color, just period. We
gotta get better. God bless us with certain opportunities. We
gotta understand the opportunity we got because it's people out
there that's homery, that would do anything for it.
Speaker 7 (15:53):
You know.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
I just pray to kids and whoever involved.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Is opening his ex girlfriend. Yes, all right now. Williams
was on the seven PM in Brooklyn podcast and set
out to Katz. He guests hosted the other day, but
he's on seven PM in Brooklyn. He's one of the
host son there, we're Carmelo Anthony, and so he says
a lot of things we already know. We were talking
about how Kat just goes viral and he can just
say whatever it is that he wants. After that Club
(16:18):
Shashay interview, you know, of course he did address that interview.
That was legendary. I think that's probably the most viewed
interview ever. That's crazy, you know, on YouTube. But amongst
the other things that he talked about was Kendrick Lamar.
They compared Kat Williams to Kendrick Lamar, like Kat Williams
against comedians, Kendrick Lamar against Drake and how they just
(16:38):
go for it.
Speaker 9 (16:39):
But here's what he said, Well, he's been one of
the top three greatest rappers from his very first project,
which is almost unheard of. Just understand what Kendrick has
to be to even be doing this show there. We're
not talking about Drake doing his show in la we
are not talking about him in the back, but we
are talking about.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Kendrick going there.
Speaker 9 (16:59):
And when the body of work, that's what it means
to stand on them ten.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
I don't know for one, first of all, when it
when it comes to music and stuff like that, when
it as far as great and who not great, that's all.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Subjective, you know, And you're right about that. And I
will say after all of that beef that actually pushed
up everybody's Yeah. I would say that Kendrick is a
wonderful artist, extremely talents. Listen. I've always been a k
I fan from the very beginning. I got we got history,
(17:35):
so shout out to Kata. I got history with Drake too,
though he was on don't quit your day jab before
he ever got signed. When I was a serious, I'm
a player.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Can't take a side well in.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
That battle, definitely Kendrick one. Yeah, there's no yeah when
it comes to that.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
All right.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Now, another thing that Kat Williams talked about and you
were amused by this, Yeah, his his role and helping
Steph Curry become the amazing shooter that he is. Here's
what he said. Then he knew how to play basketball.
I'm saying.
Speaker 9 (18:07):
I was explaining to him that the way that I
play basketball is there's no such thing as I'm not open.
I'm always open to all five spots every time. If
you notice, that's how Steph played, because if you play
like that, you are always open.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Okay, So he enlightened him. Yeah. No, the thing is
we can't write it's my personal opinion. I think those
views and that interviews just extremely embolted him to the
point he feels that we will believe absolutely anything that
he said. Heching Steph Curry how to play basketball. It's crazy.
(18:49):
And then he gonna say he talk God how to
be God.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
He said, he basically told Steph Curry the truth at
a pivotal part in his life. Is kind of how
he's explaining it. You know, you ever see that, You
know the guy who says he could be read and
then he did You ever see that?
Speaker 1 (19:03):
I know what you're talking about. He did prove he
can run real fast and all of this stuff. I'm saying,
I believe he said that to stuff, but I don't
think that helps Steph game stuff.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
You need to ask that.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Yeah, we gotta do that.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
That is your yet and when we come back, we
have under the radar, right, yes, under the radar, the
stories that are flying under the radar, but you still
need to know about it.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
It's way up.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
News in the news that relates to you. These stories
are flying under the radar.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Yes, his way up with Angela, Ye, I'm here with
ice wear Vesso. Yeah, and let's get into some of
these under the radar stories. You're gonna love this one.
An original Burken bag sold at an auction? How much
you think it?
Speaker 7 (19:47):
So? For?
Speaker 2 (19:48):
If you have to guess an original Burkon bag that
was custom made for Jane Burkin. That's who the bag
is named after, an actress.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
I would say anywhere, I'll say like two hundred thousand million?
Speaker 2 (20:00):
What what?
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Ten ms rich Off Burkins?
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Oh boy, who spent? Would you do that? I don't,
couldn't if you care? Would you do that? That's crazy?
It's like a sermon. So yes.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
Can you imagine that as the highest on record for
a fashion item. It was a travel bag. It was
worn for nine years by Jane Burkin on a daily basis.
They said, the form of the bag is still very beautiful,
and there you have it.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
I wouldn't care if my answers is it? Ten million
is crazy?
Speaker 2 (20:36):
Listen? I think your wife deserves that.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (20:42):
And Donald Trump has announced tariffs on Canada now, just
so you know, he has announced that thirty five percent
tariff and stocks have dropped because of that. You know,
he's always announcing tariffs and delaying it and scaling it back.
But he said that's going to take effect on August first,
and that is you're under the radar. Also. I don't
know if you saw these immigration raids on these California
(21:05):
cannabis nurseries, but it has sparked protests. ICE actually rated
two licensed marijuana nurseries and they said they complied with
ICE search warrants there.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
But it's just really crazy. I did it was kids there. Well,
I don't know. That's just crazy.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Yeah, this is it's wild, like all the things that's
been happening a lot, a whole lot. All right, Well,
that is you're under the radar. Now, we do have
the way it mix at the top of the hour.
Plus we got special guests joining us today in Natari.
Nuton Lewis and j Ellis are going to be joining us.
You know, jay Ellis is Lawrence from Insecure and of
course you know my girl not Torri. But they'll be
talking about the play Duke and Roya. It's an off
(21:43):
Broadway player. You're gonna love this. It's way up, just
like the like They Jean Like They and Jeli Jean Man.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
She's spilling it all. This is yet way up.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
All right, it's way up with Angela. Yeah, I'm here
with my guy. I swear Vezzo and let's get into
some yat man. Love is a beautiful thing. Tianna Taylor
was talking about her relationship with Aaron Pierre and she
was talking to Complex Music, and here's what she had
to say.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
To have someone on your side fully. Also, I'm really
big on how you handed me, and I feel like
you gotta handle me like a cup of tea. How
would you walk with a couple of tea versus how
you were walk with a bottle of water. I am
a cup of tea and I feel like he handles me.
It's such you know, he's very gentle. It allows me
to feel warm and to feel safe and not being
(22:35):
survival moal.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Oh, that's beautiful. So she is his cup of tea?
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Yes, all right.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Kanye West has been accused of sexual assault and sex
trafficking by his ex assistant Lauren Paschioda. She actually sued
him back last year after he allegedly sent her text
messages and videos before firing her, and she filed a second,
amended complaint this week. She says Kanye did a whole
truckload of bad things like assaalt battery, stalking, sexual battery,
(23:07):
sex trafficking, false imprisonment and more. She said during a
business tip, they were at a hotel in San Francisco
and he started making unwanted advantage advances. She said she
tried to rebuff him, but he kissed her on her
mouth and asked questions about what her vagina was, like, ooh,
that's crazy. I know these allegations against Kanye. She also
says that he masturbated and touched her vagina before falling
(23:29):
asleep mid sentence, what yeah, so you know and if
you guys reld call it. Previously, Kanye posted about this
and said he never after she smelled funny in half
of the NBA can attack. Yeah, previously, because this is
an amended complaint. So this is something she's already said
and now she's adding more to this. So right now,
(23:51):
at this point, Kanye hasn't responded to this latest amended complaint.
All right now, Nicki Minaj is saying that she was
invited to be on the Grammy board. Oh man, and
she said, however, she turned it down even though she
was thought it was a nice gesture. Here's what she said.
Speaker 10 (24:12):
At one point, the Grammys asked me to be on
the board, and I said, I appreciated it. If thought
that was a very very kind gesture, but my integrity
couldn't allow me to accept it. Why would I be
sitting on the board and I don't have a grant?
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Like what?
Speaker 1 (24:34):
Yeah, so I just heard that anybody can be on
this board.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
It's true, Well not anybody if you're in the music business,
like you can definitely or be a voting member of
the Grammys, right and I can clearly like they'll invite
you to be right, No, don't do that. Why would
he why would he stop us? And lastly, I want
to talk about Akon. He was building remember this whole
(24:58):
cryptocurrency city called Akon City and Senegal.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Yeah, I remember that.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Well, it didn't work out. He had a six billion
dollar contract to do this and he was supposed to
have started phase one and then phase two was supposed
to end in twenty twenty nine. But that land that
was set aside for the project was recently given back
to the state because he has not delivered on his promise.
So now instead they're building a one billion dollar tourism
hub and I guess Acon's not attached to it anymore.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Yeah, better not. I hate to say that like that
you know, I think a kind of good, great artist book.
Even when they first brought it up, I didn't think
that that was going to happen. Personally, it felt like
a lot.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
He would have to be there, like I think, like
literally NonStop. That's a huge undertaking. But yeah, remember he
had the A coin.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Also remember next.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
All right, well that is your yet and when we
come back, it's a new Music Friday. I told you already.
Justin Bieber has new music out today. Everybody is talking
about the Clips album. Also talk about some of those
highlights and who else has new music out today?
Speaker 1 (26:02):
It's way up, yes, said, let's get it. Let's go
way yep with Angela.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
He is back to set off your workday.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
All right, it's way up with Angela.
Speaker 7 (26:12):
Ye.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
It's also a new Music Friday. And that was changed
in Whips by the Clips featuring Kenjack Lamar. That Clips
album is sounded like, yeah, it's a problem, but I
swear Bezzo has been guest hosting with me all day today.
It's hurting it and it's just this is amazing. It's
prophetic because I just shined a light on you. And
the reason why I shined a light on you was
because I saw this video of you and Mary Sheffield
(26:35):
City Council president and you were taking her to your
child and home.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
And it's also you said with your mom.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Yeah, my mom was a foster mother twenty years. Yeah.
He turned it to an adult home.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Wow, So talk to me about this whole process. So
this house now people can stay there if they're like
on house, tell me how this works.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
So it was actually my mom and my brother idea.
You know, the house was a bandit for about ten
years and the city wasn't selling it for a while.
So my mom said she wanted to get the house
and then she ultimately first she wanted to start back
doing Falster parenting. And my brother was like, you know,
maybe we can do something a little bit more, you
know for the adults and people that really need houses,
(27:18):
that need help that's dealing with mental health issues, just
any kind of issue or whatever. So my brother did
the research and then you know, I did what I
had to do and we made it possible, you know.
And I don't post it, I don't promote it, I
don't do anything like that, you know, because it's out
the kindness of our heart, and this is who my
mother always been, you know, so it's just a blessing
(27:41):
to be able to take her vision and even contribute
to what she wanted to do and which is ultimately
give back and do as much as she can. So
we now have four houses on that same block that's
the exact same kind of houses or whatever.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
That is beautiful. I love that, listen. And anyway that
is there way that people can support if they want to,
like just to put that out.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
There is Yes, it's ways. I mean, we're not accepting
like money.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
And stuff and maybe like wrap around services.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
Even like people can donate clothes to the guys over
there and everything. We're getting ready to open up all
women's home as well. Nice, you know, I'm sure those
ladies will need clothes and everything like that. So yeah,
and also like the best support they can give is
just speak on the houses, you know, just just talk
to the public about it and let people know that, Listen,
we do have these type of places in the city
(28:35):
or Detroit whatever. Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
You know.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
I was out here for global citizens now and the
one issue that they say the number one issue is
always housing, and so that's why that is such a
huge deal.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
So got to shout you out for that too.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
And also when I first met you, obviously I met
you as an artist, as a rapper, but you're so
much more than that. You're a serial entrepreneur. You're in
this space of philanthropy as well. We've seen you also
talking to people running for office in many different capacities. Listen,
politics is a strange it's a whole different type of viewership.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Let's say that.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
Listen, one day, we're gonna get real deep into that,
because just because you're talking to somebody who's running for
office doesn't necessarily mean and I just want to put
that out there.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
They don't, you know. I just think it makes sense
to hear from everybody, and you know, I try to
do as much for my community and my people as
it's possible, you know, even if it's information that they
don't have access to. My thing was our access is information,
and you know, and tell you what I found out.
But yeah, no, absolutely not. Don't mean support Canada.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
And now are you back independent?
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Yes? I am.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
Okay, Well that's that's been going on. Like out you
got any single out trophy trophy. Matter of fact, let's
play a piece of trophy right now.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Let's get it.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
That's always your song. The lad song went from to
know me? Yeah, I working all right? Well, thank you
for that.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
And when we come back, Naturi and Lewis is joining
us alongside Jay Ellis. We're talking about the off Broadway
play Duke and Roya is way up this, yeah, yea.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
More way up with angel now what's up? It is
way up at Angela.
Speaker 7 (30:24):
Ye.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
This is exciting for me because my girl Notory is
here with me and Lewis.
Speaker 8 (30:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Period, it gets a hyphen aiding. I know that's right,
all right? And jay Ellis is here man.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
First of all, I just want to start this off
by saying, because people are like, oh, they're here together,
what's this about? But you're producing a play, Duke and
Roya and jay Ellis. You are starring your first ever
Broadway play off I call it Broadway whatever, but like whatever,
you on stage, you on that stage, and you are
the star of this production. You're Duke and then Roya,
(30:56):
who does an amazing job too. But I just want
to give you a koudas. I went to the opening night,
and I know that acting on stage is so different
than being in a movie. Being in a TV series.
It is no like second chance. While you're up there, son.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
It's amazing. It's been a lot of fun. I mean,
you know, I was terrified to do it. Nobody's gonna
call cut. You just gotta keep pushing. Somebody gonna call somebody, phone,
go go off, Somebody gonna you know, yell in the
middle of the scene, I'll marry.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
You, Jay, like somebody to actually do that. I'll marry you.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Are you serious?
Speaker 3 (31:34):
Last story there's our last preview before opening, and it's
the scene where Roya.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
Oh my god, kind of rejects Duke's offer. Probably not. Yeah,
I just realized that I just gave that away. So whatever. Yeah,
there's a marriage proposal that goes around.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Let's just say that, and yeah, when we yelled out,
I'll marry you Jay, not Duke.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
In real life. This is not the character I love
that listen, marriage proposals going.
Speaker 11 (31:59):
Aroun I mean crazy, but no, he kills it.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Right now, I'm talking to Jay Ellis Sanatori now and
Lewis about their off Broadway play that Jay Ellis is
starring in. It's called Duke and Roya. But the storyline
of Duke and Roya it's a love story. Yes, tell
tell him, tell him, yes.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Tell us.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Yeah, I played this rapper who goes on a USO
tour to Afghanistan in like twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
Also a player, You were a player. Now I'm street.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
But you know, he gets there and he meets Roya,
this woman who's his interpreter. And at that time, in
that country women and still today actually women are not
allowed to work. And so she actually sneaks on and
off the base dressed as a man every single day
because that's just part.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Of culture to get her education, to be able to
get her education, to be able to do these things.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
And anyway, they start talking and he starts to realize
and she presents as a woman on the base like
once she's there, right, But they start talking and they
start to realize that like there's a shared humanity, but
really they start to find themselves.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
How long did it take for you to get it? Like,
for you to feel comfortable and not to be like,
I'm ready.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
For opening nights hopefully next week. He's like, I'm still
getting there. How are you feeling now? First play?
Speaker 2 (33:09):
And I know that's exciting and it felt great when
I watched it, but I don't. How are you feeling?
Speaker 1 (33:14):
I feel good? You know what I'm saying. Like there's
days where I'm like, man, I'm tired.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
There's days where I'm like, you know, especially like we
we don't have shows on Sundays, so on Monday, I'm like, man,
I'm gonna forget one of these songs.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
Like I'm gonna w out there and fully forget.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Yesterday, I had this whole moment where we were talking
about a little timing thing in the play and talking
about speeding it up, and I was like, oh, well,
if y'all speed that up, I'm off stage changing in
that moment. And if you speed it up too much,
and if I mess up, if I forget something, if
I take my pants off, if I kick off my shoe,
and like whatever, I might miss the moment, then pants
(33:48):
on somebody. And I got and I got back there
last night and pulled my pants off. Literally, I unbuckled
my pants and like pulled my pants down.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
I was like, what am I doing? What a Oh
my god, are you serious?
Speaker 11 (34:04):
Literally I was pulling his pants down. That's gonna be
the headline y'all on stage.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Comes to Dunke and Rio for a let on show,
a peep show.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
You know the people will run.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
So Natory Nut and Lewis is here. She's the producer
of the play Duke and Royal. That Jay Ellis you
know him as Lawrence on Insecure. It's stirring and we
got more with them when we come back. It's way up.
Speaker 8 (34:26):
You want to know my name?
Speaker 4 (34:27):
Way up with.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
What's up? His way up with Angela Yee and I
got some special guests. This is my girl, Natory Nut
and Lewis and Jay Ellis is here. They're talking about
the off Broadway play Duke and Roya. All right now, Jay,
I need an honest moment from you. Did you think
about doing a rap album after this?
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Four times?
Speaker 3 (34:48):
I'm starting every single day wait, I will say yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Yeah, tell I'm not gonna lie. I see you up there,
and I was like, he really think you're a rapper?
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Did you see the swag?
Speaker 3 (35:01):
You should have seen me in the studio. I was like,
I could do this and it was it was dope.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
It was really really fun. Uh Yeah. I think I've always.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
Dreamed to have music involved in my life and in
my career. In my career and I've never done that
professionally before, and so I think for me, this was
again It's a huge reason why I was attracted to
this role because I was like, I'm about to go
up there the show.
Speaker 7 (35:26):
Up.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Everybody who walks in there is like, wait, he's doing that.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
I know, playing a rapper I had.
Speaker 11 (35:31):
I thought I was going to put out a whole.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
After a little Kim I swore in my heart.
Speaker 11 (35:37):
I was like, you know, I'm gonna just switch it
up and show him what I could do. And then
I was like, oh, yeah, no, I'm going to just
lay back. But it is nice to see you step
into the musicality of you. And it's nice because I
didn't know Jay plays piano. So I think it's refreshing
as actors, even amongst our peers, to be like, oh,
(35:58):
I know you could do that.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Right now, I'm talking to Jay Ellis, Sanatory and Lewis
about their off Broadway play that Jay Ellis is starring in.
It's called Duke and Roya. And last we heard, you
gotten slapped twice As Lawrence.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
I be dodging these New York City streets. You know
who's real hot?
Speaker 3 (36:14):
These New hot I got slapped twice. I got slapped
at JFK once.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
Are you serious?
Speaker 1 (36:20):
And what crazy is? I got slapped a year after
the show was over. It's all I feel like you
redeemed yourself kind of still, but also redeemed himself. She's
the one who don't do this on the couch.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
But he did make I mean he did turn it around,
turned it around.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Because she turned around. She turned around, she turned around
all the way around. You know what I'm saying, It.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Was unattractive for somebody that I'm not doing all this.
I come home, you on a couch. That is you
know what I'm saying, You're not even trying. That is
not appealing. And so it ain't even about necessarily what
you have. It's about like ambition, like I don't want
to come home and you just on a couch and
that it worked you know all day?
Speaker 1 (37:02):
Right, Yes, that's true.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
So the redeeming yourself is like, yes, I don't mean
that in a negative way.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
I just mean I didn't know slack. I must be
yelling at me too. I mean they do the same.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Would you know what I say? Here's here's my thing today.
If you don't have a response, then I didn't do
my job.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
All right, Well, listen you guys, thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
Duke and Royo again, how can people get tickets besides
who's gonna DM me and I'm gonna give away too.
Speaker 1 (37:26):

Speaker 2 (37:26):

Speaker 11 (37:29):

Speaker 5 (39:39):

Speaker 1 (39:40):
So then she gave me a pet. I was like, boom.
Speaker 5 (39:42):
So then my friends came and bailed me out. So
we get back to my house.
Speaker 8 (39:45):
They like, y'all got some reefs. I'm like, yeah, I
got some trees.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
But I never told them that the bag of reef
was in my so then one of my homies grabbed
it and bust the bag.
Speaker 8 (39:55):
Open with their teeth.
Speaker 5 (39:57):
And I never had the heart to be like, you
