It's time to shine a light on him.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
What happens way up at the end of l a Ye,
Happy Thursday, Happy Friday Eve, and it's time to shine
a light on somebody who's doing amazing things eight hundred
two ninety two fifty one fifty Jonathan, Who do you
want to shine a light on?

Speaker 3 (01:21):
I would like to shine the light on a friend
of mine. He got locked up out when he was
seventeen years old, and I'd just like to shout out
his rehabilization process and how he was able to transform
and become a full time published author.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Oh wow, what book says he have out? Or you know,
give us at least one title?

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Will I will shout out his memoirs called Once Upon
My Time, making the best of it while it's available.
His name is Nashid Nasalon. It's available on Amazon and everything,
and I'm just proud of him, so I just wanted
to send him a salute.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
All right, Well, shout out to him and thank you
so much. You're a good friend, and I'm sure y'all
both be looking out for each other.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Can I shout out on Instagram too? Yes?

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Please?

Speaker 3 (02:03):
It's at free nine. They're at free nazz at free nae.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Okay, all right, I'm gonna look it up right now.
Thank you for calling.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Salute to you. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
That was shining light. Eight hundred two nine two fifty
one fifty. Spread some love, you guys, because y'all know
things have been so crazy. We need love. And you
know what, there is nothing more exciting with somebody here,
somebody shouting them out on shina light, whether it's their business,
a family member, somebody who's done something positive. So call
us up. Eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty.

(02:33):
You can still shine a light. For last word, it's
way up y yee's but y'all being waiting fok.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Oh, oh, you're tapped in the way up with angela ye.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
What's up? Its way up with angela ye? And y'all
let me know what you guys are doing to celebrate
the fourth of July. Are you having a cookout? Are
you traveling? Are you spending time with family? Are you
laying low? I remember growing up in Brooklyn and that
was the day that everybody was alighting their fireworks on
the grooftop. And I tell you what, not much has
changed in Brooklyn. I'm still there and there are still

(03:04):
all kinds of fireworks. I actually now get to sit
on my roof and watch this. And I remember last year,
having moved into my new house and going on the
roof and just watching everything happen from there. So no
matter what, you guys, be safe. I also see there's
all these Free America events that are going to be
happening protesting Donald Trump's administration. So that's going to be

(03:26):
held across the country throughout the weekend. So no matter what,
be careful when it comes to traveling everything that it
is that you have to do. And the Free America
weekend is being organized by the Women's March, which lost
in twenty seventeen. That was when women were outraised over
Donald Trump's twenty sixteen presidential win. I was actually there
at the Women's March. Anyway, again, be safe and call

(03:49):
me up eight hundred and two ninety two fifty one fifty.
Let me know what you got going on with.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
It's relationship for career advice. Angela's dropping facts.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
You should know if this is as key, it's way
up in and there's a few segments that are near
and dear to my heart, and one of those is
asked ye. So this is the time that you guys
get to ask whatever questions that you might have, and
I'll give you some advice, some of my expert advice.
All right, so right now on the line, we have Stacy.
What's up, statsy, Hi, Hi, Stasy, how you feeling today?

Speaker 4 (04:20):
I'm good, I'm good.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Well I've been better.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
My best friend is getting on my nerves, Like all right,
So she's one of those friends that can't be happy
for you when you level on up? What do I
do with that?

Speaker 1 (04:31):
How long have you all been friends?

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Like six years?

Speaker 1 (04:35):
I do believe that somebody who can't be happy for
you is not your friend for real. I think Sassy
that energy, though, is not the type of energy you
want to have around you as you're elevating in your
life and career. Like what's going on with her that
she seems like she's not happy about.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
I mean she was in school and not really following
her passions just yet. I Mean a lot of doors
are like kind of closing for her, but she keeps
going and that's a support her for him, Like I'm
there for her. But it's really problematic where like where
I was down and out, like yeah, we were cool,
like you were able to key key and all that
good stuff, But when it came time to you know,

(05:09):
good things start happening for me, it's kind of like
I don't hear from her as much. She doesn't text me,
she doesn't me out Like at this point, I would
talk to her every day, maybe three times a day.
Now is I haven't talked to her like six minutes.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Yeah, I had a situation like that, Oddly enough, Like
when things are going really well for me and one
of my friends, I used to like not want to
tell her what was happening because I felt like bad
about it. I felt bad when good things were happening,
I had to always act like nothing was really popping
for me. And so I just think that, you know,
at different times in your life, sometimes we don't want
to abandon people that we've been cool with, but sometimes

(05:44):
you have to realize that that friendship may have changed
and isn't what it is that you need for right now.
And you got to put yourself first. And so if
having somebody around you that's not going to be positive
and uplifting and keep going and is also going through
whatever they're going through, that's not beneficial for you. And
sometimes you have to say, I don't have to be

(06:04):
the savior.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
So what do I do when she tries to come
back to be my friend?

Speaker 1 (06:08):
I think you gotta be honest, and if she's a
real friend and you're honest with her, you should be
able to have those conversations. You should be able to
tell her. Look, I just feel like when things weren't
going well, we related good, you know, But now that
I've been having some positive things happening, I feel like
you're not celebrating me and you're not, you know, doing
what I need you to do as a friend. And
so I had to step back, and you have to

(06:30):
be honest, and maybe it'll make her open up, maybe
she'll have civilizations. Yeah, because I think everybody has to
self reflect on why they act the way that they act.
And hopefully she'll be able to do that and you
guys can revitalize your friendship. But if not, I just
don't think that, you know, friendship should mean dragging somebody,
dragging one person down?

Speaker 4 (06:49):
Then true?

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Well, thank you? Ye all right, yeah, welcome girl.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
Bye.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
That was ask ye eight hundred two ninety two fifty
one fifty. If you couldn't get through, you can always
leave a message, ask me a question, and I got
you eight hundred and two ninety two fifty one fifty.
And when we come back, Jesse Rayes is gonna be
joining us. Paid in Memories album is out and tour
is currently going down. It's way up.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
I beg you about to do this one of lemos
to famous women in radio Dio. We're talking about Angela Ye.
You're way up with angela Ye.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Please believe that what's up? This way up with Angela yee.
And a superstar is here for real. Jesse Rayes is here, yes,
first of us. So good to see you. Congratulations on
having an absolutely amazing no Skip album. Oh thank you.
Now I gotta ask you this, when guys, if a
guy approaches you on once to Day, is he nervous
if you listen to your music? Like, yeah, listens.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
But whatever fears un attractive anyway? So I feel that
if I so like scared, I'm off it.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Well listen. Couldn't be me. I absolutely love.

Speaker 6 (07:50):
That song I heard the men of a Shoes, The
one that they really love is the one that they lose.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
She ends up.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
Being the one they dream about in the learning the
house with the woman he settled for.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
She was better for mine.

Speaker 6 (08:05):
I guess God blessed.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
But he couldn't be me. You know what somebody told
me one time for men they'll end up with the
wrong person at the right time rather than the right
person at the wrong time. Like you can have like
the most perfect person, but if you're just not ready
for it. But then when when a guy decides he's ready,
it's like, all right, who's here? You know. That's just
what I've heard from I've been heard that from guys too,

(08:28):
like they'll be like, you know, I just kind of
felt like it was time for me to settle down.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
They're not crazy. That's so common because I've heard that enough.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Right now, I got my girl, Jesse Ray is here
with me. Has anybody ever proposed to you for real? Yes?

Speaker 3 (08:43):
Or no?

Speaker 5 (08:44):
I'll tell y'af I'll tell you off this because it's complicated. Okay,
it's not complicated, it's just nuanced. Okay, Yeah, we don't
know what. No, I know there's a lot, but i'll
tell you. I'm in Toronto. No, it wasn't that.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
It wasn't that. It wasn't for Papers twenty. I think
you guys are getting a WNBA team. Also, yeah, Tempo,
shout out Temple. Yeah, that's gonna be amazing. And you
get the Raptors game, so I know you'll be at
those games. Two m listen. You had a moment at
the game when Jake was like, look at Jesse Rayes.
Instead of put the.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Camera on Jesse ray as she looks twenty million out
of time to night, Let's let's get a camera shot
at her. Forget these clients, an absolute national treasure right there.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
I know you were like, because you just mind your business,
you were just at the game. But it's also funny
when things like that happen. It's so funny.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Oh my god, it's so funny because when they panned over,
it looks like I knew what was happening, Like it
looks like I was laughing at was We were laughing
at something completely different.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
But yeah, that was that was funny. And then my
phone started blowing up. That's going on, you like promote
the album now, well, all this is happening. Jesse ray
Is is here. We're talking about her new album, Paid
in Memories. But she just got a great all around
story and I just like her. We got more with
her when we come back. It's way up.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
This is way up with Angela.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
You are a media maven, right, you never know what
and is gonna say what's up his way up at Angela? Yeah,
and I am talking to Jesse Rayes now. You also
on the album talk about being one year sober.

Speaker 6 (10:18):
Been a buddy, years since I had to drink, been
a buddy, years since I talked to my brother last
love again at the gun on the brink with the irony,
is getting everything else that you wanted years now?

Speaker 1 (10:28):
I guess when this came out? All right, so we
keep it going because it would have suck for it
to come out. And then they're like, actually it fell
off the wagon. Wow, who knows?

Speaker 5 (10:37):
I'm human?

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Right right? So what was that mission about for you?

Speaker 5 (10:40):
I had just gotten too deep into it and then
relied on it too much. The last time I got
drunk was at the album release party from my last
album for Yesie, and that day I got like homies
had to carry me home. My folks were in town,
so my mom had to see that. And there's something
that's not new to her, Like I've been drinking since
I was young, so she's had to see multiple friends
bring me home like just lifeless, dead weight body. There

(11:02):
was a hangover that lasted two days, and that party
was intense, like there was a lot of a lot
of big names at that party, a lot of important people,
and I just remember thinking, I'm like, yo, I it
could have gone left so quick, right, because things have
gone left in the past. There's a lot of nights
that I could have died. I feel like my mom's
prayers have saved me from a lot. Got have saved
me from a lot. And at that point I started
doing more recognizance of like when I was going through

(11:24):
heartbreak as a teenager, That's what I leaned on when
I started working nightlife and industry. If you ever bartended,
or if you've ever been a bottle serverce color, it
becomes a norm. And then when I was lucky enough
to become a full time musician, it was before the show.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
If I got nerves, would lean on it.

Speaker 5 (11:39):
And then in the studio it became a tool because
it a salary intimacy if you're in there with strangers
and you gotta be vulnerable and became a tool. And
then on an off day you're trying to relax, became
a tool. And then it was just everywhere all the time.
But because I was functioning, it didn't really like it
was few and far in between, where those kind of
hangovers what happened, but it was all the time, and
I think I just kind of woke up and I

(12:00):
was like, my body hates it, my soul hates it,
my family hates it. Why am I gonna keep doing
something that doesn't feel right?

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Right?

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (12:08):
So so then I stopped and and it's been two years.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Were good for you, But congratulations on that. I think
you right now, I got my girl, Jesse Rayes here
with me now. Since these songs are all about somebody
and headaches, you got legs that.

Speaker 6 (12:20):
You lift, God of press because you promised the world
and gave me nothing but some mediocreaches.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Who gave you mediocre somebody's dusty ass son. They don't
know nothing. They don't honestly, I think they know what
they're doing. Let me tell you something.

Speaker 5 (12:42):
You should be grateful for honest friends and honest women
in your life, because few and far in between will
you find people that will legitimately tell you the truth
and deliver it in a way that doesn't absolutely bruise
your ego.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Better enough, well, no, like in a hit smash song.
I tried to tell them before the song came out.
Yet that was Jesse Rayes, Thank you so much for
