Speaker 1 (00:01):
You are now angel what I called her yee.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
What on Monday? It's a way up with Angela Yee.
We're in the building. The Grammys were on last night.
Clarissa Shields fought yesterday. It was quite an active weekend.
I opened up my bar here for real in Brooklyn.
Coffee uplifts people after dark. This weekend so active and
here we are. And then I went to go see

(00:33):
your Broadway play yesterday. No days off, y'all. The Lisa
Lisa Lifetime movie came out over the weekend, and she's
gonna be joining us today. Man, Lisa Lisa is amazing
to me. It reminds me of if y'all don't know
Lisa Lisa all cried out. I feel like that song
that remake via Laura was huge. But a lot of
people have sampled her music, but early on she just

(00:55):
was quite a force. She went into R and B genre,
she was in the genre, and she's.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
From New York. So we'll talk.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
We'll talk to her today. But in the meantime, Happy
Black History Month. They don't want us to celebrate Black
History Month, but we're gonna do it anyway. Eight hundred
two nine two fifty one fifty. Call us up, let
us know who you want to shine a light on.
I'm gonna make sure every day we are spreading our
knowledge that they trying to repress.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
All right, let's get it going. It's way up a
shine a.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Shine, Turn your lights on, y'all lights spreading love to
those who are doing greatness.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
Shan the light on them, Shine a light on. It's
time to shine a light on them.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
It's way up with Angela yee, and it's time to
shine a light. And today I want to shine a
light on Edmund Diday. He is the first black American
to compose a full opera, and it is now finally
about to be staged after one hundred and thirty eight years.
They thought this score was lost, but there was a
chance discovery of that manuscript that was in Harvard University's archives,

(01:56):
and so now he will be added to the American
Composers Canon. And according to Opera Creole, it's a nonprofit
aim at discovering and bringing the works of nineteenth century
New Orleans composers of color to the stage. Givano Joseph said,
it was great with great pride in humility that I
would like to say Welcome Home at mindte Welcome Home.

(02:17):
This is the story that we have told that people
of color are only now becoming part of the timeline
of classical music. And the reality is that in the
United States and the person of Dada, black people were
already participating in classical music. So he emerged from New
Orleans Golden age of opera. Very fitting for me today
because I told you I went to go see a
Broadway play over the weekend and that was what a
wonderful world that was based on Lewis Armstrong and his

(02:40):
life story. And he's also from New Orleans, and so
you know a lot of history that has to continue
to be told. All right, now, who do you guys
want to spread some love to? Who do you want
to shine a light on? Eight hundred two nine two
fifty one fifty zarayah, Who do you want to shine
a light on?

Speaker 5 (02:56):
Well, first thing, I've been listening to you with my
mom since when you was on the breast of well, like,
oh my god, can't we go with the beat?

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Thank you?

Speaker 6 (03:04):
I will tun on my mom. She found out her
own business.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
It's called that Tasty Creation, and she's been doing guy
caterings and stuff like that.

Speaker 7 (03:13):
But now she's time. We got her to do at
that store, and she's been working really, really really hard
on it, and I wanna start light on her, let
her know that we love her and we see her
and we support her.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
What's the name of the business one more time?

Speaker 5 (03:25):
That Tasty Creation. It's she from Queens be from Queens,
New York.

Speaker 2 (03:29):

all right.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
I'm about to go look her up right now and
see what. See what your mom got? What's her next?

Speaker 8 (03:38):

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Her name is LaToya okay.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
And she's on Instagram. Her instagram is dot Tasty Creation.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
I might have to get some catering done, all right,
was it very Thank you so much for calling.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
Thank you so much, and have a good day.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Okay, here we go, LaToya ford so food, Caribbean food.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
We're gonna order some food up here.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
Yes, please do sell my mom from love. Thank you'
all right?

Speaker 9 (04:00):
Thank you?

Speaker 3 (04:01):
All right?

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Well that was Shina Light eight hundred and two ninety
two fifty one fifty. If you couldn't get through, you
could leave a message and when we come back, we
have your y e t There was a lot of
activity at the Grammys. First off, let's talk about the
drama before we get to the big winners. We'll talk
about Kanye West, also Babyface and the apology that he
rightfully deserves that should have never happened.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
We'll talk about it. It's way up, this.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Says in the rooms from industry shade.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
To all of gossip out. Angela's speeling that et.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Yes, his way up with Angela. Yee Chella's in the building.
What I'm here, Chicago's here, that's right. All right, let's
get into the Grammys. I know you were watching it
and Shashana was watching it. What we that's your alter ego.
So let's talk about some of the things that happen now.
Their disrespect This went viral as it should. An Associated
Press reporter is apologizing after cutting off Babyface during the

(04:55):
red carpet because she saw a chapel erone walking by.
So here is the awkward moment where she ends up
just completely disrespecting Babyface.

Speaker 10 (05:05):
This new trend that we're seeing in R and B
where we're seeing more of a fusion.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
We're seeing people blend the genre with pop, blend the
genre with hip hop and rock, as well.

Speaker 11 (05:15):
It's interesting, Chapel chapel, you guys want to go do that?

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Go do that?

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Listen, you know that's about to be a go do that, right,
Go do that? So yes, Leslie Ambres is the one
that asked them the question, and then Christa Faria is
the one that started yelling out for chapel Yes. So awkward.
And so here is that apology that came later.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
I'm really sorry about interrupting Babyface earlier Chapel roone had
come up and there was a lot.

Speaker 12 (05:48):
Of commotion, as there is on these carpets.

Speaker 13 (05:50):
But I'm a big Babyface fan and as our be
all and so I just wanted to say that I
really apologize.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
All right now.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Babyface also sent a statement to USA Today Ernest Duke's
is representative. He said, the best part of the night
was reconnecting with old friends, meeting new artists and feeling
all the love in the room. That's what I remember.
That's what it's really about. Music is bigger than any
one moment. Much love to everyone who won and everyone
out here making great music. That's a class act. He
is way too nice, yes, all right. And they also

(06:20):
put out a statement too as well, from Associated Press,
they said, we are deeply sorry for cutting our interview
with baby Face short on our YouTube live stream of
the Grammy's Red Carpet. We have apologized to him through
his representative and to our viewers on the live stream. Okay, well,
Babyface gonna write some good music to this, all right now.

(06:41):
Also on that red carpet, yay, and Bianca Sin sorry
his wife.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
She came there pre bubing like nugget out there.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Yes, it basically she had on a very sheer dress.
I mean this ended up going viral. I saw people
posting it. They had to put the little bar across
her brass because she was really like, had nothing on,
and he just stood there looking like a robot. I
don't know what this is about. And it does look uncomfortable.
I saw people defending all of that, but you know,
time and place, now, yeah it does. And there was

(07:15):
a rumor that they got escorted out and that they
weren't invited. They had an entourage of five people, but
the truth is that they did the red carpet and
then left. So clearly he wanted to make that statement,
wanted to get people talking, and they did. All right,
so we'll talk more about this later because he also
did a sit down with Justin le Boy and they
had a party afterward where they played the interview.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
We'll discuss it its way up.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
So about last night, Yes, I went down.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Uh look who's head shell is in the building? Way?
So you got here from Chicago?

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Just now? What were you doing over the weekend?

Speaker 12 (07:51):
Girl?

Speaker 14 (07:52):
I've been getting my life together, Okay, So you know,
I'm just working on my podcast, my new one that
I got coming up. Just you know, I was supposed
to do all my New Year's resolution stuff in January
and I'm so behind. I'm just getting caught up. Okay
that shout out to me as as you get it done,
you know, I am.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Well, we did the official opening for my coffee uplifts
people after Dark Cuff after Dark. We did get our
liquor license, so now we have drinks. We have amazing
mocktails as well, in case you don't drink, because a
lot of people were doing dry January. So I was
basically there all weekend. Tomorrow we start Taco Tuesdays with
two girls in a cook shop. So shout out to

(08:31):
Shelley because she's going to be there doing amazing tacos.

Speaker 12 (08:36):
We gotta go.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
I when I tell you these tacos would change your life.
Mayor had about thirty of them at the Wine and
Food Festival, so that's going to be a fun time.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
But I'm just trying to like curate different things there,
you know, at the shop.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
So I spent a lot of time and dedicated a
lot of time there thanks to Charles Noon and he
actually hosted on Friday a preview for Saturday.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
And Charles had his whole real.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Estate network come out and he had it lit impacked
in there, and I want to thank him for that
because it was like a little kind of show us
what's going to be like. You know, I'll be watching
the super Bowl there next week. We're gonna do some
fun things. I'm gonna get the karaoke setup, so Navy
will need you for that because he's the tech guy,
whether or not he wants to be. And then I

(09:19):
went to go see What a Wonderful World on Broadway,
and you know I love a good Broadway play. Well
this one was really amazing. It's the Lewis Armstrong Musical.
We call him Louis Armstrong and it's the story of
his career I always know the song, well, no wonderful,
we know that song, but I did not know his
whole history of how we got to where he got to.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
He was married four times and.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
So if you don't stop, but you know he was
a jazz musician, and so life on the road, you
know how it goes. So just really, really it was interactive,
such a great experience for me to learn his story
that way. It wasn't just about that, but it was
also just the time Stephen Fetchit was in it. And
you remember Stephen Fetchit was that character that they called

(10:04):
the quote unquote coun But to learn the history of
how intelligent he really was and why he was doing
the things that he was doing, but also why Louis
Armstrong had to like play the Hollywood game to get
into movies and do things like that, and some people
looked at him as a sellout.

Speaker 12 (10:19):
So sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Right, So it is like a balance between that because
people don't know what's going on behind the scenes. But
just a great great Broadway play, All right, well, when
we come back, tell us a Secret eight hundred two
nine two fifty one fifty call us up.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
You know, tell it ain't gonna judge you all. I'm
not gonna judge you.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Tell it got some secrets. Don't go back and listen
to some old lip services and you'll hear them.

Speaker 12 (10:45):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty call us up.
Any secret you have, it's no judgment zone. You're anonymous.
That's eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty. Tell

Speaker 4 (10:57):
This is a judgment freeze all. Tell us a secret.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
And by the way, shout out to Chris Brown who
just wanted to gram me last night because you just
heard that. I don't give a f he's on that song.
But it's where you put angela gee. And you know
what time it is, It's time for tell us a secret.

Speaker 12 (11:13):

Speaker 4 (11:44):

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Okay? How did it even happen?

Speaker 7 (12:36):

she came in there, and then like she just wouldn't

do to lead these black juice?

Speaker 11 (13:06):

The positivity is way up.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
Sure, she's about to blow the lid ab off this spot.

Speaker 1 (14:12):

Speaker 4 (14:13):
Oh yeah, angelus feeling that yeetee, come and get the tea.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
Oh it's way up at Angela. Yea, my girl Chella
is here drink age.

Speaker 7 (14:22):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
I'm loving this for us. Now, let's talk about the
Grammys yesterday. The positivity shout out to DOCI. By the way,
she is only the third woman to take home the
Grammy for Best Rap Album. Before her was Lauren Hill
Cardi B Yep, so such a big deal. This category
was introduced in nineteen eighty nine, so think about that

(14:44):
since nineteen eighty nine, she's only the third woman to
win in this category.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
And here's what she had to say during her speech.

Speaker 16 (14:51):
I know that there is some black girl out there,
so many black women out there that are watching me
right now, and I want to tell you anything is possible.
Don't allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you, that
you're too dark, or that you're not smart enough, or
that you're too dramatic.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Or you're too loud.

Speaker 13 (15:10):
You are exactly who you need to be to be
right where you.

Speaker 12 (15:14):
Are, and I am a testimony.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
That's a rap album. I know that's right now here.

Speaker 15 (15:20):
She is.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
This song that she put out right after winning. It's
called Nosebleeds. Here's a snippet.

Speaker 13 (15:26):
I don't know she's gonna go crazy? Is she gonna
go crazy? Everybody wants to know what don't she would
do if she didn't win. I guess we'll never that
the swamp to the mother stage because I'm about to
miss be Hey, she's a loseman. I guess will never know.
Well she lose her cool?

Speaker 3 (15:43):
I guess whatever the swamp okay.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
And by the way, for Best Rap Album, she beat
out j Cole Common and Pete Rock, eminem and Future
and Metro Booming. So also was the only woman nominated
in that category. And you know what, let's talk about
Kendrick Lamar now, because Kenjack Lamar basically swept everything. Yes,
he won Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best
Rap Performance, Best Music Video, and Song of the Year.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
What a year for Kendrick Lamar. Well, here he is
when he was getting Record of the Year.

Speaker 17 (16:16):
We're going to dedicate this one to the city. This
is my neck of the woods. That's held me down
since a young pup. You know, most importantly the people
and the families out in the Palisades and outa Dina.
This is a true testament that we're going to continue
to restore the city and we'll go keep rocking. My
boy must what yeah, man, what's up?

Speaker 3 (16:34):
I ain't got nothing to say, but West said. Another
thing that people talked about was Kendrick's outfit. Yeah, they
said he was.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Wearing a Canadian tuxedo, which I've never heard that expression before,
but I guess that's the all denim suit that he
had on. So they're saying that's yet another dig with
the denim jacket and Denham.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Jeans, shots fire, you know, plays all it can all
be subliminal.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
But now he's a twenty two time Grammy winner, so
he swept every category that he was nominated in.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
For him, Another person who had a great night was Beyonce.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Now, Beyonce also announced that she's doing a tour and
so she's gonna be doing the Cowboy Carter Rodeo Chitlin's
Circuit tour. And here is her speech when she won
Country Album of the Year.

Speaker 12 (17:23):
Wow, Wow, I really was not expecting this.

Speaker 11 (17:26):
I want to thank God that I'm able to still
do what I love after so many years. I like
to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted
this album. I think sometimes genre is a cold word
to keep us in our place as artists, and I
just want to encourage people to do what they're passionate about,

(17:50):
all right.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
She also won Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter.
So shout out to Beyonce. Everyone's going to be out
on this tour.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
Let me tell you.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Best African Music perform Ormance was Thames. Our Best Traditional
R and B performance was Lucky Day. Shout out to
all the winners. Best R and B song was Scissor
with Saturn. Best R and B performance Money Long Made
from Me. What a year this was at the Grammys. Yes,
I do want to say that that's awesome. All right,
Well that is your yet when we come back, we
have under the radar. These are the stories that are
not necessarily and the headlines. They're flying under the radar,

(18:20):
but you definitely need to know about them.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
His way Up, no news edition, the news that relates
to you. These stories are flying under the radar.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
All right.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
It's way up with Angela yee. I'm here with my
girl Cella. H right, and let's get into these under
the radar stories. So Donald Trump is going to be
pausing for one month a new twenty five percent tariff
on goods entering the US from Mexico. He had a
conversation with the Mexican president, Claudia Seinbauman agreed to immediately
send ten thousand She agreed to send ten thousand soldiers

(18:52):
to her country's border to prevent drug trafficking. She said
that they both reached agreements on security and trade. She said,
I also made it clear that we wanted him to
put tariffs on hold, and in that regard, we reached
an agreement. He asked how long we could put the
tariffs on hold, and I told them, let's put them
on hold permanently. He then asked, well for how long.
She said, let's pause him for a month, and I'm

(19:13):
confident that in a month we will deliver results for
both his people and Mexico. She also said there's an
issue of high powered firearms illegally entering Mexico from the
US and that criminal groups take advantage of that.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
So she said, I believe it was a good agreement.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
And we will provide updates on this month of work
by both the Security and trade teams. Now, Donald Trump
is also going to be having a conversation with the
Canadian Prime minister today as well, so we'll see. Yeah,
who knows what happens when he has these conversations.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
Let me tell you something.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
I feel like things have been in like an uproar
ever since Donald tru It has been just yeah, it's
going down. It's like this is happening. Okay, actually we're
going to pause it. I'm doing this, Okay, we're going
to pause it. But it's interesting to see what everybody's response.
I mean, I think a lot of people were concerned
about the cost of things going up.

Speaker 11 (20:05):
You know.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
One of the main promises was that everything was the
prices were going to come down when he was president,
and that definitely doesn't feel like we're on the road
to that happening at this point.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
All Right.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
The WNBA has filed a trademark application to bring back
Detroit Shock as the city is submitting their expansion bid.
They want to host a new team and that would
be led by the Detroit Lions principal owner and chair
Sheila Fordham, former Detroit Pistons start Grant Hill and Chris
Weber and General Motors CEO Mary Barra, and Detroit Lions

(20:36):
quarterback Jared Goff. They said Detroit is a sports town
that loved its teams deeply and consistently shows up with
unwavering passion. Okay, I would love if Detroit got a
WNBA team, and I will say they are extremely passionate
about their teams. I was for sure in Detroit when
the Lions were playing the Commanders. And when I tell you,
the city was on fire that day. And you loved Detroit,

(21:00):
I do and so but I love our New York
Liberty too. But now I love the w NBA period,
So so shout out to them. And that is You're
under the radar now. Lisa Lisa is gonna be joining
us today. Shalla, are you familiar with Lisa Lisa? You
know I am not, You're not, no, I am okay,
I'm so excited for Lisa. Lisa had to toll the

(21:22):
loss and emotion or cried out let the beat hit him.

Speaker 12 (21:27):
Oh are you talking about that, Lisa?

Speaker 3 (21:28):
Lisa?

Speaker 11 (21:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (21:29):
That Lisa out. Yeah, that's not necessary.

Speaker 12 (21:34):
So I'm just going along with it.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
But yeah, well she is going to be joining us today.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
She has a lifetime movie that came out over the
weekend that's based on her life, and so I was
and I watched it of course as a fan. She'll
be joining us. And we also have the way it
mixed at the tap of the hour. Yes, sways like
to talk.

Speaker 5 (21:52):
Like they Angela Jean, like they Angela Jean.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
Man, she's spilling it all. This is yet way up.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
It's way up with Angela Yea, I'm here with my
girl shillalla h all right, let's get into some of
this yet. So let's talk about more things from the Grammys.
So first and foremost, Kanye, we saw him on the
red carpet with his wife and then they left out
to that, but they did have a party and Justin

(22:22):
the Boy actually did a sit down interview with Ya.
And I know the whole thing's gonna drop, But here
is a snippet that was posted online.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
How do you feel about being called crazy?

Speaker 12 (22:32):
Where do you believe that narrative came from?

Speaker 3 (22:34):
From me doing crazy accountability in.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
Twenty twenty four?

Speaker 2 (22:39):
All right, So not sure what else they talked about,
but I guess we shall soon see we're all crazy
a little bit, some more than others, all right. Because
you saw his tweets and everything that he was talking
about Kamala Harris and all of that.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
I mean, it was really disrespectful.

Speaker 12 (22:55):
I saw it.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
I was like, is that real that I first thought
that maybe he got He said, I used to want
to f Kamala until she lost. I don't f losers anymore.
The Democrats made me take the loser post down.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Now I'm kidding. They don't control black people.

Speaker 11 (23:08):
No more.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Trump for Life. And then he said Kamala seems like
a very nice human. I just want to say sorry
to her kids. And then he said, damn, just warming up.
I'm rich. I can say whatever the F I want.
I do this for the broke me, said out to
broke me.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
This one's for you.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
This is not a clone or is it sound like
he got some? Then he said, the world is so
lucky to have me. Trump's backing office. Yea's back a billionaire.
The world might just be okay, all right now. Janelle
Money in the meantime, was at an after party after
the Grammys and had some words for Nelly.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Here's what she said.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
I used to like Nelly, but then hey, well she
don't like Nellie no more.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
That's the gist of it.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
And in other news, Diddy has been hospitalized in New
York for knee pain. They said he was taken to
a Brooklyn High Hospital from the Metropolitan Detention Center. This
happened on Thursday. They said his knee was bothering him
and he has a history of knee issues. His lawyer said,
I cannot comment in anything related to prisoner movements. Also,
I'm not commenting on anything related to possible medical issues
as he's awaiting his trial. Speaking of which Chopper is

(24:18):
talking about, he's talking about Sarah. Sarah Rivers from Making
the Ban. Yeah, and she was on that Diddy documentary
saying that Diddy did touch her inappropriately.

Speaker 11 (24:30):
We have that.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
Okay, here's what she said in the documentary. Basically, I
was by myself, well, you touched from the place that
he should have.

Speaker 9 (24:38):
I felt intimidated.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
I felt like, oh my god, what the heck happened?

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Just so, all right, that's from Diddy the making of
a Bad Boy documentary. Well, Chopper is responding to what
she had to say, and here is his response.

Speaker 15 (24:50):
It's all respect and love for Sarah, I don't think
that that's true that that man violated her. I think
that she was ecstatic. Shouldn't wait to him because seeing
with my own age, you know, did it on that
girl gouple times and she was She was not feeling
violated and nothing.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
She was happy.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
Dang okay.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
Interesting, Well that's you know, both sides of a story,
and that's from the art of dialogue.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
If you want to watch that for an interview, that
is your YE team. When come back.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Over the weekend, we talked so much about the Grammys,
we also got to talk about the quote the greatest
woman of all time that is Clarissa Shields. We'll talk
about her fight that was on his own yesterday on
a Sunday and how that went down.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
Its way up.

Speaker 10 (25:32):
Who about to do this one of lemos to famous
women in radiodio.

Speaker 4 (25:35):
We're talking about Angela.

Speaker 11 (25:36):
Ye.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
You're way up with Angela yee. Please believe that.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
All right, it's way up with Angela Yee. My girl
Tella h is here.

Speaker 12 (25:43):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
Midwest was killing it over the weekend. Clarissa Shields. She
was in her hometown of Flint, Michigan, and she was
beating up Brooklyn's own Danielle Perkins.

Speaker 12 (25:53):
That's what we do.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
And this was on de Zone.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
So Clarissa Shields is now boxing's first undisputed woman's heavyweight champion.
She is sixteen and oh and now she said she
also could not use her jab, which is what she's
known for, because she tore a laborman her left shoulder
just nine days prior to the fight and.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
Still one and still one.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
She is the number one pound for pound women's boxer
in the world, and she had her man walking her
out to the round, not just walking her out, but
also wrapping heirs papoose.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
Yes, all right, and I.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
Will say Danielle Perkins was a class act. I mean
she talks about the attention that they got for this
fight thanks to Clarissa Shields. People have been scared to
fight her prior. But Clarissa won and she did knock
her down in the last few seconds of the fight
in the tenth realm. She was awarded every round of
one score one scorecard, nine out of ten on a

(26:58):
second and seven out of ten on the third scorecard.
Now Here she is in her post fight interview talking
about what's next.

Speaker 14 (27:05):
Honestly, I want to fight two more times this year.

Speaker 12 (27:07):
I want to fight against Franchion cruise. I want to
do a rematch with Hannah Gabruce. I Lord brings to
out of Marshall in the.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
US, saying tap bets again, and it's always on the table.

Speaker 3 (27:15):
If Chris Cyborg or Leila Ali want to.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Fight, Oh, she don't play it, I would say, she
don't be ducking no smoke. And that's what I love
about it. When you put it all on the line,
people were like, oh, I don't know if this is
a good idea, and she won.

Speaker 12 (27:30):
I love her confidence.

Speaker 11 (27:31):
Now.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
One person who also has chimed in is Muhammad Ali's
ex wife, Khalia Ali, and here's what she had to
say about Clarissa Sheldon why she was rooting for her.

Speaker 12 (27:41):
Okay, Lela's mama's with my husband.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
Pay back time, she said.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
She said she'd be rooting for Clarissa Sells because of
you know, the backstory. The back story, So she wants
her to beat up Laila Ali. I guess as payback, Hey,
who would you have out of the two of them, Yeah,
it's gonna be Clarissa Shields. But I mean Clarissa is
like definitely the best boxer. She calls herself the quote.
She's lived up to that name. She had a movie

(28:13):
that did extremely well based on her story to Fire Inside.
I don't know anybody who at the like at the
prime of their career like she is, has had like
a biopic about their life during that time.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
Yeah, that's how big of a deal she is.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
Good for her, And you know what I want to say,
all that controversy that she's had with her personal life,
that just made because it was always weird to me
that people didn't know who she was. They'd be like,
who's dying?

Speaker 3 (28:35):
Who's this?

Speaker 2 (28:36):
But it did make more even more people pay attention
to who she is. So sometimes things could be like
a gift and a curse at the same time. But
shout out to Clarissa Shields. She well, she definitely deserves it.
When you watch her entire story. When we come back,
ask ye eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty
is and I'm gonna call us up any question you have.
I'm here with my girl Chella. We're gonna help you out.

(28:57):
That's eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
What's the number?

Speaker 12 (29:01):
Eight hundred You got it?

Speaker 3 (29:03):
It's way up.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
Since, whether it's relationship with Koreer, advice, Angela's dropping facts?

Speaker 3 (29:12):
What's up? Its way up at Angela? Ye, I'm here
with my girl Cella. H what's up all right?

Speaker 14 (29:16):
Tella?

Speaker 3 (29:17):
You ready to get some advice?

Speaker 12 (29:18):
Let's give it.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
It's asking yea time and we have Star on the line.
What's up?

Speaker 8 (29:22):
Star?

Speaker 3 (29:23):
What is going on?

Speaker 11 (29:24):
Ye?

Speaker 3 (29:25):
What's good? What is your question today?

Speaker 7 (29:27):
I've been dating this girl for six months now, more
or less.

Speaker 5 (29:31):
She's a vegan.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
I am not okay, there's only so many.

Speaker 5 (29:35):
Restaurants we can go to now. I recently tried to
cook at home and I made her some mushroom risotto.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
Okay, and it really went out my way.

Speaker 12 (29:45):
She was mad?

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Why was she mad that I didn't put effort?

Speaker 5 (29:49):
And when has she ever said that she ate mushroom risotto?
And I was just like, you know what this is like, bananas?
I really went out my way, Banana the mushrooms you like?

Speaker 6 (30:02):
Because I knew at least the mushrooms she liked.

Speaker 5 (30:04):
And she was just like, Nope, I didn't make an effort.
I didn't think about her.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
What couldn't she couldn't she eat that?

Speaker 12 (30:12):
I don't know it ain't gonna work. It's gonna work,
it's too early.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Yeah, she should also be respectful of the fact that
you did try it. I don't even understand how she
could say you didn't.

Speaker 5 (30:25):
I'm just like, how is that not thoughtful?

Speaker 8 (30:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (30:29):
I don't like an angry vegan.

Speaker 12 (30:30):
Yeah, and then that's stupid.

Speaker 14 (30:32):
That's stupid to be arging over that for real, like
you know, and then too if it's only six months,
and that's what y'all arguing about, like you just wasting
your time.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
It seems like you're catering to her. But is she
catering to you? You know, because that's also not fair
if you're gonna.

Speaker 5 (30:47):
Have argument, right, So she says, oh, I make you,
you know, things.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
That you eat, and she does.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
She does go out Okay, okay.

Speaker 8 (30:56):
So I get it.

Speaker 7 (30:57):
But even though it's not something she normally eat, I
still went out of my way to find something vegan
and literally cook it myself.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
So she is respectful and she does do things for
you also.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
I mean it feels like sometimes things like eating food
because I don't need seafood. People hate that I don't
need seafood. But I also can go to a restaurant
and find something else to eat. And it just feels
like she's gonna have to be willing to work with you.
Everything's not gonna work out perfectly all the time. And
if she's gonna get mad, you know, and.

Speaker 5 (31:27):
She's she's ten years older than me, but she don't.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Look at cause she's vegan. No, I'm kidding, but don't
you be looking young?

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 15 (31:34):
I do? Yeah, do?

Speaker 9 (31:36):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (31:37):
Well, they sound like you really like her, and it
could be a way that it could work. But she's
gonna have to stop taking it out on you. If things,
you know, it's a learning experience. It's still early, like
Chella said, and so you guys are still learning different
things about each other and it's a process. And she
just got to be respectful along that way too, and so.

Speaker 12 (31:54):
Do you or you should just flip vegan with her.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
I have been trying to ease up all of them.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
Good.

Speaker 5 (32:00):
So right now I'm just eating chicken.

Speaker 9 (32:03):
But it's hard.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
It's a prophet.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Yeah, it's surprising. Be patient with each other. Okay, all right, Well,
thank you star, good luck.

Speaker 9 (32:10):
Love you guys.

Speaker 10 (32:11):
I listened to you every day.

Speaker 5 (32:12):
I appreciate you. Y.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
All right, appreciate you see it maybe could work all right?
Well that is your ask, ye eight hundred and two
nine two fifty one fifty. And when we come back,
Lisa Lisa is gonna be joining us, so excited for this.
Her Lifetime movie is out right now, so you can
check it out. It's way up.

Speaker 4 (32:30):
Yeah, it's gonna turn me up.

Speaker 3 (32:32):
Here we go up again.

Speaker 4 (32:33):
This is way up with Angela.

Speaker 15 (32:35):
Ye.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
What's up? It's way up with Angela yee. And this
is so exciting.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
If y'all could have heard my reaction when they were like, oh,
would you want to interview Lisa Lisa, I said yes absolutely.
But Lisa Lisa is here alongside her best friend Slash
manager Slash also an artist, Tony Minaj.

Speaker 8 (32:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
You know me growing up listening to Lisa Lisa in
the eighties. You don't know anything about what's going on
behind the scenes. We know the music and we know
Cold Jam.

Speaker 3 (33:01):
We know full force.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
But this biopic that's out now on Lifetime really helped
put things into perspective to see how it all happened.

Speaker 9 (33:09):
It is what we really really wanted to do. We
wanted to focus on who Cold Jam was because they
were never in the front line.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
So let's get into this story because I know some
people have seen it. It came on over the weekend.
Can you feel the Lisa Lisa's story? So when you
first got signed, you were teenager, you were still in
high school, yes, fifteen.

Speaker 9 (33:27):
I didn't know anything nothing.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
I just wanted to say, beautiful but young underage girl
in this industry of sharks and a lot of men,
surrounded by a lot of men.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
How was that for you? And how did you learn
how to navigate that?

Speaker 15 (33:40):
Early on?

Speaker 9 (33:41):
It was not easy. I didn't learn how to navigate
it till later on when I met Tony, because she's
someone who taught me how to say no, and you know,
I found my voice. It was difficult. Everything was about person,
move on. It was the eighties. Music industry was definitely
still is two run by men, and it was difficult
to get my point across.

Speaker 8 (34:01):
You know.

Speaker 9 (34:02):
It was about an arm, a hand over your shoulder
and be quiet, don't.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
Right now, I am talking to the famous world renow
Lisa Lisa and Toni Minaz, who is not only her
best friend, her sister, her manager, but was also in
the group with her when she was coming up and
then you played your mom, I did. How did you
prepare for that? And how did you feel after you
saw yourself? They made me look exactly like her.

Speaker 9 (34:25):
It was scary, but it was therapeutic for me seeing
my life through her eyes and everything that she went through.
The first scene was killer for me. She had to
pull me out of the scene for a minute while
we were filming. I was bawling, just so remember all
of that.

Speaker 3 (34:42):
Your father was abusive, yes, and then we didn't see
him again.

Speaker 9 (34:47):
So have you ever like I never had a relationship
with my father. Okay, that's actually how I met my father.
I met my father when I walked in. I heard
my mom whimpering. And when I walked into the apartment,
she was pinned to the kitchen window and he was
abusing her.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
We always, you know, living in Hell's kitchen. You kept
it back by the door.

Speaker 9 (35:05):
So I took that back and I actually connected, you know,
and my mother's like, no, that's your father.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
I was like, really, yeah, this is my father keeping
out of here, you know. Crazy.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
It was what was the decision to open the movie
with that, because, like you said, that's a really tough
emotional thing. But it caught your attention right away and
kind of sets the stage for Yeah, basically how I believe.

Speaker 9 (35:28):
That that needed to be shown because then we're alone.
My mom raised us all by herself. She had to
get rid of that. We tried to pull her out
of it. Then we went to another place and we
all had to work.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
I wanted them to see that.

Speaker 9 (35:41):
I wanted the audience to see that. Definitely.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
Listen. Listen.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
There's a scene in the movie where your manager is
trying to kiss you and he's being really aggressive.

Speaker 9 (35:49):
Everybody tried to get their feel and I'm just happy
that I came through that. I'm here today to speak.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Wanted it. I was watching that, I was like, laurd
please don't let this go.

Speaker 9 (35:57):
Well, there was a lot more that wasn't shown.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
I feel like it has one of the scenes that yeah,
because that's why I was asking it, because I feel
like it probably was more than that.

Speaker 18 (36:06):
It was enough, right, because we didn't want to take
away from the impact that she made in this industry
by having people focus on the trauma, right because we're
addicted to trauma now.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
We wanted to keep it classy.

Speaker 18 (36:19):
We wanted to keep the focus on her story, the
friendship between us, the relationship between her and cult jam
and I think that we accomplished.

Speaker 4 (36:28):
That with this film.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
Lisa, Lisa is here. We'll have more with her when
we come back. Make sure you take out her lifetime movie.
It's out right now.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
It's way up.

Speaker 11 (36:36):
You want to know my name?

Speaker 4 (36:37):
Way up with Angela?

Speaker 3 (36:40):
What's up? Is way up with Angela?

Speaker 11 (36:42):
Yee?

Speaker 2 (36:42):
And I am here talking to Lisa, Lisa and her
manager's last best friend's last sister, Tony Mina. Her movie
Can You Feel The Beat is on Lifetime and right now.
When you first started in music, what kind of contract
did you sign?

Speaker 3 (36:54):
I mean, who knows?

Speaker 11 (36:56):
You know.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
They said you couldn't get married.

Speaker 2 (36:58):
I couldn't do nothing, you couldn't have a relationship, nothing
like you can't drive fast cards.

Speaker 9 (37:04):
But no, it's all kinds of things. It was a
bunch of crazy stuff. I couldn't make any move without
their say. People I hung out with my family had
to go through them to hang out with you. Yeah,
that's wild. I'm here today, guys. Yeah, I'm alive and
happily so because I saw that. Also, recently you said
you were going to re record your music. Yes, so

(37:26):
talk to me about that because we've been hearing a
lot about people rerecording classic album. Well, what I want
to do is I want it. We just released All
Cried Out in Sabsa and it's called No Yoda and
masson a platforms.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
I love it.

Speaker 9 (37:37):
Everybody's been asking me why haven't you done any Spanish music,
and I'm like, I had to do it, rite.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
I don't want to sell out on it.

Speaker 9 (37:42):
So now what I want to do is re record
some of my hits in Spanish.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
Oh, that'll be amazing. I just want to say, All
Cried Out such a classic song. Great to do a
karaoke to. My favorite part of that song. And I
think the most powerful part is when you say apology
not accepted, yes.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
Because that is something that we all need to say sometimes.

Speaker 9 (38:02):
Absolutely absolutely apology not accepted at me too, the broken
hearts you've collected. I do not want to be a
notch on your strength. Letting go right now.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
I am talking to the famous, world renowned Lisa Lisa
and Toni Minaz, who is not only her best friend,
her sister, her manager, but was also in the group
with her when she was coming up.

Speaker 3 (38:22):
And then you also played on Tina I did.

Speaker 9 (38:24):
I played the mom.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
That was a vibe too.

Speaker 9 (38:30):
You were the first Latino family on TV. I didn't
even realize that we were the first, and it was great.
You broke down a lot of doors.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Do you feel like people even realize just all the
things that you represented.

Speaker 18 (38:45):
No, she's really not aware of herself. I told us
so when you when you see the movie, when the movie,
when you're watching it, I want you to look at
the impact from from another perspective.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
She's so humble and so not aware.

Speaker 11 (39:03):
I know, I am.

Speaker 9 (39:04):
I don't focus on anything like that. It's just my
happiness comes from me being able to do what I
love to do, and that's the same. Well, congratulations, and
I cannot wait to read the book. Oh thank you,
she said, I'm gonna let it all out.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
I cannot wait because I know, I mean, just even
from watching this movie, I could read underneath like the
layers and know that there's a lot more.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
Thank you that.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Obviously they couldn't do it justice in an hour and
a half, but they did a fantastic job.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
So congratulations. You should be so proud of yourselves. Thank
you for writing me.

Speaker 9 (39:35):
Yes, and I want you to know that I'm your
biggest fan. Yes, and God bless you continues to so nice.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
I can take it. She was excited about this. Yeah,
they said, Angeley, yes, and that's what I said. All right, Well,
thank you so much both.

Speaker 11 (39:52):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (39:52):
