Speaker 3 (02:31):

interview that she did. Now recently, she was on NPR's
Rachel Martin Wildcard podcast, and she addressed the fact that
people keep on saying that her and Barack Obama are
getting divorced. She didn't attend certain things like Donald Trump's
inauguration Jimmy Carter's funeral. Well, here's what you had to

(02:53):
say about the rumors.

Speaker 7 (02:55):
The fact that people don't see me going out on
a date with my husband sparks rumors of the end
of our marriage. I mean it's sort of like, okay,
so we don't instagram every minute of our lives.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
We are sixty You just.

Speaker 7 (03:08):
Are not gonna know or we're doing every minute of
the day. You know, and yes, I guess we're famous,
but we're sixty you.

Speaker 5 (03:15):
Are, you're real famous.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
We don't take selfies and that's a fact. I'm sure
she loves the idea of not being in the public
eye anymore, not having to be outside and go to
certain events if she doesn't feel like it, and to
have her own life. And she's right, that's what we
want to do. Be home, go to bed. All right,
Well that is your yet when we come back, we
got tell us a secret. Eight hundred two nine two

(03:38):
fifty one fifty. Call us up any secret you have.
It's a no judgment zone and you're anonymous. It's way up.
Eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty. Tell us
a secret.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
This is a judgment free zone. Tell us a secret.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
What's up? Its way up at Angela Yee? Tell us
a secret. Eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty.
The deal. It is a no judgment zone and you
get to stay anatomous but step anatomous college. Tell us
a secret.

Speaker 6 (04:06):
Yeah, So, my husband is a known pedophile. I actually
turned him into the police and nothing came of the case,
and I left him and we have three kids together,
and I have been gone for a few months, and
now I'm facing a situation where I am about to
be homeless, and I have went behind my family and

(04:29):
friends back and have started talking to him again, and
I feel like I have no other choice but to
move back in with him.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Oh my god, your friends and family won't help you
in this situation.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
No. They helped me move from Washington State to Florida,
and they gave me a time limit, and the time
is up. I'm trying to keep my kids under one roof.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Are you concerned about your kids because your husband is
a pedophile.

Speaker 6 (05:02):
I have all boys, and I'm trying to convince myself
so that they're safe because the boys are not girls.
But I feel like it's better if i'm you know,
with them twenty four to seven so I can make
sure that they're good for sure.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
I wish we could find a way to get you
some help other than that, Like, I hate this for you.
You turn this man in. I don't even know. Oh
my god, I am praying for you right now that
you find another way.

Speaker 6 (05:28):
Thank you, love.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Have you told your family this is what I might
have to do? You said you went behind your back,
So yeah.

Speaker 6 (05:35):
I haven't told them. They would just shame me for it.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
They can't shame me for it and not support. Yeah,
oh my god, I'm praying for you. I know this
is tell Us a Secret. It's anonymous, so off the air,
our producer is gonna get you. I want to see
if there's some help we can get you.

Speaker 6 (05:50):
Oh thank you.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
All right, Well that was tell Us a Secret eight
hundred and two ninety two fifty one fifty. If you
couldn't get through or on the iHeartRadio app, tap that
microphone and you can leave your secret that way. It's
way up.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
You know, she's about to blow the lid above this pot.
Let's get it. Angelus building at yet, come and get
the tea.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
What's up his way up at Angela yee and happy Monday.
It is time for your ye t. Let's get it
started with bag Fuel. Jim Jones was on the bag
Fuel podcast and if you recall, Sierra questioned Jim Jones
about why he is not married yet. Here is that
initial conversation. Why not like y'all have like life every

(06:32):
capacity anyone con live it in let's just still it bumbler. Well,
A lot of people thought that this was inappropriate and
that she inserted herself in the middle of something. Jim Jones, though,
said that that did not upset him at all. Here
is what he had to say.

Speaker 8 (06:45):
If I was not in this music industry as an entertainer,
I would be living with my life out there for
everybody to see into gatch.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
So while I'm in the public, who am to really
get upset about what hap is in our relationship because
we put it out there.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
I also feel like because it was Sierra, he let
us lide if that was somebody else, because I've seen
him not enjoy that question being asked to him or
anybody having something to say about it. I think he
was like, all right, he respects who it came from.
And speaking of relationships asap, Rocky and Rihanna are expecting
their third baby together. They were at the Smurfs movie

(07:24):
premiere on Sunday and they talked to Entertainment tonight. Here's
what they have to say.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
How many more?

Speaker 3 (07:29):
I mean, how big is this family gonna get?

Speaker 2 (07:32):
We're gonna be like Dwayne's family, you know. Yeah, I
mean love is beautiful and it's just spreading it, you know.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Man, if they have as many kids as the Wayne's family.
Y'all can forget about Rihanna putting out a new album
in the near future. It feels like she is just
so happy in the space that she's in and that
is your Yet when we come back, we have under
the radar. These are the stories that are not necessarily
in the headlines. They're flying under the radar, but you
need to know about them. If you're traveling for this holiday,

(07:58):
get ready for all kinds of potential drama. And the
airport will tell you how it's been starting off. And
I'm gonna just tell y'all get there early, okay, have
a backup plan. It's way up.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Newssition the news that relates to you. These stories are
flying under the radar.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
What'sypp's way up at Angela Ye? And it is time
for your under the radar stories. And if you've been
ready to travel because it is a holiday week, over
fifty two hundred flights were canceled and deferred across the US.
And that's because of severe weather. That's in Charlotte, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago,
New York. All three airports in New York, Boston, Reagan

(08:36):
and DC, Detroit, La San Francisco, for Lauderdale. A lot
of major airlines like Delta, American, United Jet, Blue Spirit,
a lot of others had to suspend and postpone hundreds
of services. That's because of thunderstorms, lightning, and low visibility.
So again I will tell you guys that if you
are planning to travel, just get ready for a lot
of delays. I saw Tierra shout out to my cousin

(08:57):
Tiera in Chicago. I saw her posting about her flight
getting canceled and then she was going to a gig
and if she wanted to buy a whole new flight,
it would have been sixteen hundred dollars. She was like, sorry,
not gonna make it. So now was the time to
have some grace. I know the airport is a mess,
and I'm gonna be traveling sometime soon too, So y'all
have patience for other people. Remember the people who work

(09:20):
in the airport. It's not their fault when these things happen.
So just keep that in mind and woosa, and that
is you're under the radar, and don't forget. Later on
in the show, we got Malcolm d. Lee joining us.
Y'all know he is the one who wrote and directed
the Best Man. That was his directorial debut. It was
a number one movie. Well, now he has a book

(09:40):
out called Unfinished Business that all has to do with
the Best Man. When I tell you, you are gonna
love this book and this conversation. We also got the
Way Up mixed at the top of the hour. That's
how we start on a Monday. It's way up.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Well, she's like the talk like they and Jealie Jean
like they and Jealie Jean. Man, she's spilling it all.
This is yet way.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
It's way up at Angela. Ye, it's time for your
yea day man. Today is the day they are deliberating
in this Ditty case. So the defense did rest their
final arguments and they said that the prosecution exaggerated their
case against Ditty, showing evidence of his swinger's lifestyle, personal
drug problems, but not a criminal enterprise. They said that

(10:24):
they want and prosecutors have urged jerrys to show Didty
that he's not above the law. So those are the
two different sides of what's going on right now in court.
Ditty's loved ones are holding hands bowing their heads before
exiting the courtroom. The Jerry has already selected Jero number
five as their four person. So we should be getting
some updates pretty soon. I don't know what y'all think

(10:44):
is about to happen, but this has been quite a
trial when I tell you. They also said, according to
the judge, actions may speak louder than words, and so
we'll see what happens. But the judge told jurors they
should decide for themselves how credible they found each witness.

(11:04):
The evidence is in is the testimony. He said, all right, now,
let's talk about Real Housewives of Atlanta. Angela Oakley and
Phedra were going at it, and it looks like Angela
Angela Oakley bought some receipts to show that Phaeda was
the person behind a man named Marcus. Marcus made these

(11:25):
accusations at the cookoff about Charles Oakley, and Charles Oakley
did not appreciate this right. It looked like he was
about to really be the enforcer. On last night's episode.
It looks like Phaeda, though according to the guy, Marcus
is the person who contacted him to put forth these allegations.
Here is what happened on last night's episode.

Speaker 8 (11:46):
There's somebody in this circle of y'all that it's not
happy with Angela.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Of course blame me. I'm an easy target.

Speaker 9 (11:56):
But girl, I absolutely have no reason to put anybody
up to this nonsense. I've already had my marriage destroyed
on the national TV, so it's no way in hell
I would come for anyone's marriage.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
All right. So you know, there was a rumor about
this Charles Oakley affair and it looks like Phaedra according
to this guy, Marcus is the person that contacted Marcus
to spread this rumor. Well, Angela confronted Phaedra, and here's
what happened. Why would I have a beef with you?
What rain do you have that I want a marriage
because I tried to come in between mine. I trusted

(12:31):
you and I liked you.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
But when I like you but.

Speaker 7 (12:36):
No proof and the Godfather baby, it says, be worried
a person who brings you the information, Phasier, you gave
me everything.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
All right. Well, you know Marcus is the restaurant owner
who approached her with these cheating allegations and this cheeting
allegations against Angela Oakley are like non stop that Charles
you know, in the past and this and that. But
I guess that's kind of what they have in her.
But it feels like Angela Oakley is the person that
people are really gravitating toward this season. All right, when

(13:05):
we come back, ask Yee eight hundred two nine two
fifty one fifty. As y'all know, any question you have,
I will use my expertise to help you out the
best way that I can. That's eight hundred two ninety
two fifty one fifty. Ask yee is next.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
This relationship with Korean advice, Angela's dropping facts.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
This is ask gee what's up?

Speaker 3 (13:27):
His way up at Angela Yee? And it's time for
ask Yee eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty.
You can also leave a message, or if you're on
the iHeart app, you can click that microphone and you
can ask me a question that way and I'll answer it.
And today Tamika left the voicemail. Here's her question.

Speaker 5 (13:43):
If I want my baby daddy and we're together and
we're in a relationship, is it cool for his other
baby mama to tell to help her out with her life?

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Deeld All right, well, Tamika, I want to say this.
I understand that it's annoying to you. That's y'all man,
y'all young man. And it's annoying when someone else is
asking him for money, especially somebody who he had intimate
relationships and a child with. But you know, his child
lives there, and so if there's bills to be paid
and she does need some help, she definitely can ask him.

(14:15):
But what I think needs to happen is, I don't
know if he's paying child support, but he needs to
establish maybe a set amount of money that he gives
her and if that has to be through the court
or through a conversation that the two of them have
with each other, and then she can pay whatever she
needs to pay out of that. That way, whatever else
is not taking care of her that she has to handle,
she can figure that out. But at least he's letting

(14:37):
you know what's going on too, by the way, But
I think the best way to do it is there's
a set amount, you know what the bills are, because
the truth is, if she's the primary caregiver for the
child or children or whatever they have, he should not
hesitate when it comes to making sure that his kids
are taken care of in the home that they're in
for part of their time, and so it's fair for

(14:59):
you to say, look, I think you guys need a
system because that way is something that's expected and she
doesn't have to call and keep asking for things. And
she may be doing that to irritate you, but he
needs to be the person to step up and handle that.
And you need to be supportive of that, because I
know those situations aren't easy. Sometimes women can be vindictive

(15:19):
and do certain things to kind of try to irritate you.
You have to be the person to see past all
of that and say, here's the best way to handle that.
We have children who are you know, half brothers, half
sisters or whatever the case may be. The best thing
that you can do is be fair about things and
take your emotions out of it and say, okay, here's
the best way to handle this moving forward. And that

(15:41):
is your answer for ask ye eight hundred and two
ninety two fifty one to fifty. In case you couldn't
get through, you can always leave a message and ask
a question that way. And when we come back, Malcolm
d Lee is going to be joining us. His book
The Best Man, Unfinished Business is available tomorrow, so you
can find out what happened after The Best Man. This
is the first of a trilogy, so get ready. It's

(16:02):
very juicy. Let me tell y'all. I am in the
middle of reading it. Can't put it down. Great vacation read.
It's way up.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
This is way up with Angela. Ye let's go.

Speaker 8 (16:11):
You are a media maven, right, you never know what
Ange's gonna say.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
What's up? It's way up with Angela yee. And this
is indeed a special day. We have Malcolm d Lee
here with us. Thank you for joining me.

Speaker 8 (16:23):
Oh man, thank you for having me.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
And this is the book release The Best Man Unfinished Business,
the first in a trilogy and your first book period.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Yeah, I can't.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Believe that you did this. I remember watching you do
interviews for the twenty fifth anniversary of the movie The
Best Man, and you didn't mention a book coming. So
when did you decide that.

Speaker 8 (16:41):
I knew that people still wanted more, I didn't know
what else I needed to do, and I knew it
was gonna be very difficult to bring everybody back, you know,
for the story. But I've always loved the written word.
Here's some characters that people know. This is already established backstory,
and people want it so let me take my chance
of doing that.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
You know, it's interesting because in this book book, one
of the things that's happening early on, so it's no spoiler,
but Tay Diggs's carric well, I can't. Harper is working
hard at trying to figure out what he's going to
write as well. That's correct, and so it's kind of
a parallel universe. How was that process for you trying
to figure out where was this story going? It wasn't

(17:20):
that difficult, to tell you the truth.

Speaker 8 (17:22):
I mean, I thought, like, okay, I knew like the
arcs of the characters, at least the first three, and
that's Harper, Robin, and Jordan. I wanted to say, see
what life was like post divorce, you know for Harper
and Robin. You know, Robin has moved off to Ghana,
you know, is raising their preteen daughter. Harper's living that
bachelor life in Dumbo in Brooklyn, you know, trying.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
To figure out life.

Speaker 8 (17:43):
But he also kind of feels little kicked out of
his life, and the same with Jordan, likes she's had
to kind of like take herself out of the whole
corporate structure as well as kind of just distance herself
from Harper, So you know, I felt, okay, that's a
good starting place for all three of them, and what
is life.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
Like four of them?

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Right now I'm talking to Malcolm d Lee, the author
of the Best Man on Finished Business, but also the
writer and director of the number one box office hit,
The Best Man. And we all want to know what's
gonna happen with Harper Right and Jordan. But it's also
a trilogy, so you have to map out what's going
to happen. Each chapter is a character's perspective, their own POV.

Speaker 8 (18:19):
And I was planning on doing that with the with
the with the next novel with you know, where we
experienced the POV of Lance and Quentin and uh And
and Lance New Broad Jasmine and you know, Merchant Candice.
But as stories dictate, you know, we did not end Harper,
Robin and Jordan's story here.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
We kept it going.

Speaker 8 (18:41):
So they're gonna be continuing. We knew they were going
to be continuing in the other books, but not in
a way that we ended up being. So it's gonna
be very much a cliphanger of the end of this book.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
All right, Malcolm d Lee is here, we have more
with him when we come back. You know him from
the Best Man. Well, now there's a trilogy and it's
three books. The Best Man on Finished Business is the
first one. It's out tomorrow. We got more. It's way up.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
We're about to do this. Yeah, yeah, more, way up
with Angela on now you know what it is?

Speaker 3 (19:10):
What's up? His way up with Angela yee. And I'm
talking to Malcolm D. Lee, the author of The Best
Man Unfinished Business, but also the writer and director of
the Best Man. You know that was a number one
box office hits. What are family reunions like in gatherings
for you? You know, because I know you worked with
your cousin Spike Lee early on in your career. I
believe you said he told you to make black stories.

Speaker 8 (19:31):
Well, he said, make black filmy whenever he would. Whenever
he would because he was a companion book to all
his movies. He'd write in it, make black film, Malcolm,
you know, and then you know, send that to men
to go off the school, you know. And so we
see each other from time to time here and there,
and you know, it's been great that he was been
a leader and a mentor for me. He lived in

(19:51):
my parents' basement when when he was in film school.
So I got and I had no idea that I
was like wanted to go and that that film was
even an option. But he always encourgd me to write
and to write stories. And the only way I went
was able to make my first movie was to.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
Write the right script at the right time.

Speaker 8 (20:06):
So, you know, being a storyteller, being someone that's someone
that enjoyed writing from an early age, you know, I
knew that I was going to make my way in
the world by being a storyteller. And you know this
is just another example of that with this novel.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Right now, I'm talking to Malcolm d Lee, the author
of The Best Man, Unfinished Business, and The Best Man.
I remember you also had said when you first wrote
that you had another story you were actually trying to sell. Yeah,
and it wasn't resonating at that time, so you figured,
let me do something commercial.

Speaker 8 (20:35):
What happened was I had this great romantic comedy that
I was trying to tell. It's great New York story,
like in the Vein of Annie Hall and when Harry
met Sally. But you know, I couldn't get the money.
I couldn't raise the money to make it. So I said, Okay,
I'm going to write something so commercial that I'm going
to sell it and use that money to make my
indie movie. I titled it My Homeboy's Wedding to Begin,
but I knew where that was never going to be

(20:56):
the title. But I started writing, I was like, oh,
I can right, and so you know, that was And
it was funny because that was the script that you know,
the Spiker read read every one of my scripts, but
when I gave.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Him that, he was like, this is the one.

Speaker 8 (21:10):
Oh wow, yeah, And it was like, you know, within
like a month, I was going to meet the heads
of Columbia Studios.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
So whatever happened with that first movie, it's still on
the shelf collecting dusk. All right, Well, thank you so
much for doing me. I'm so happy that we were
able to do this. The book is available The Best Man,
Unfinished Business, the first and a trilogy. You know, it's
a fun read, especially when you love having watched the
first two movies the series, but.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
You don't have to have seen it.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
In fact, my co author Jane now her dad.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
He's a doctor. He reads nothing but like medical journals.
He picked the book. He couldn't stop reading. He'd never
seen the movie.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
It's amazing and he was just like, this is incredible.
You're going to relate to somebody or something without a doubt.

Speaker 5 (21:51):
The book.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
Pre order now and don't fake your orgasms.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Yeah, don't do that.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Thank you, Malcolm de Lee. I appreciate Thank you, Angela.
You can mystup full interview with Malcolm d Lee on
my YouTube channel Way Up with Ye. Crazy that a
movie that was made twenty six years ago has now
spawned a trilogy and a series and a Best Man Holiday.
This is a real franchise that keeps on giving. And
when we come back, this is your show. So you

(22:17):

Speaker 3 (22:26):
Ye, what's up? His way up at Angela Yee And
Happy Monday, everybody. I'm actually gonna head out and go
to see my girl, Ayana Irish perform tonight. She's from
where my mom is, from Montserrat, and she's got a
show at City Winery. Make sure y'all check out Ayana Irish.
She's got a beautiful voice. She's been doing this for
a long time. I love seeing her performed live. Cannot
wait to go and chill. You know it's a holiday

(22:48):
week again. I told you all about all of the
flight issues, so be careful, show up early, have patience, WUSA,
take a deep breath, count to ten backwards before you
blow up on somebody. And this is your show, so
you have the last word.

Speaker 10 (23:02):
My mom actually took my only thing I had from
my old school in Ohio before I moved to South Carolina,
and she ripped it and through it the way and
my sister told me that. So I've been acting like
I didn't know where it is and whatnot, seeing if
she would lie or not, because she's always says, oh,

(23:23):
I don't lie to you, and she says she doesn't.
She didn't take it, and she doesn't know where it is.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
I want to shout out a light to the legendary
just go Richie from Divine Sound from Brooklyn to a
die dead sty been in the game over thirty five
or forty years and he still ain't get it floubled
like he's supposed to. So I'm gonna shout a light
on disco. Richie made this hits off. What people do
for money

Speaker 2 (23:46):
