Speaker 1 (00:01):
Ye yee's but y'all been waiting for Oh you're tapped
in the way up with Angela yee.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Yeah, it's way up with Angela Yee. Happy Wednesday. Listen.
Yesterday I tried to order this little tiny shoe rack
and I was all the way at checkout and the
shoe rack was maybe like not even two hundred dollars.
Why was shipping two hundred dollars for a little tiny
shoe rack. It's like just two levels small. I just
(00:28):
want to sitthing small, like right next to the door.
I was like, Oh, this is really cute. I'm gonna
get this two hundred dollars just for shipping. I've never
seen such a thing, but I know a lot of
people are going through it right now, you know. U
smooth checked right back and went back on the screen
and said, forget it. I guess we won't get that.
But anyway, today we have the president and CEO of
Urban League EXUS County joining US, Vivian Cox Frasier, And
(00:51):
if y'all are not familiar with Urbanly, they do great
work in the community and every single Urban League is different.
So she's the president and CEO, and I think it's
been for like twenty one years in Essex County, So
shout out to her for joining us today. As we're
talking about finances and you know, workforce, we're talking about
re entry programs. It is a wealth Wednesday, so we're
(01:12):
gonna do that. But let's let's start the show with
some love and some positivity. I'm still waiting for my
guest host to get here today, Lindsay Granger and Mayno.
But in the meantime, let's shine a light eight hundred
two nine to fifty one fifty call us up.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Let us know who you want to shine a light on?
Its way up.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
I'm shame turn your lights on, y'all. Lights its breading
love to those who are doing greatness.
Speaker 5 (01:34):
Shinna light on, shine a light on. It's time to
shine a light on.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
All right, it's way up with Angela. Yeah, and it's
time to shine a light. And today I want to
shine a light on. A producer artist's named Major. Now
recently he went to Carson Street Elementary School. And by
the way, Major is also a Grammy Award nominated producer
and artists.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
I want to make sure we point that out.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
He's worked with Justin Bieber Post Malone, our friend Ocean
a whole lot of people, and he went there and
spoke at their music piano lab class. This was last week,
and he also had them perform his song called Frequency.
They sang and they also played portions of the song
on their own individual pianels. Only third grade, so imagine
(02:17):
how exciting that was for them to have somebody come
into the classroom and just kind of like sit through
that with them, and that they have these pianos that
were donated to the school. Now, Major said, music is
one of those things that helps my mind to relax,
and I was so stressed about what I was going through.
That's when he realized he had cancer, he said, So
it showed me the power of music. And now I
started to try to bring some of these ideas that
(02:39):
I learned into the world of music that you can.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Hear on the radio or see on TV.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
So this all happened through the Lang Lang International Music Foundation,
where they envision a world where all schools are for consistent,
equitable music education with certified music educators and sustainable programming.
Schools should provide music education at least twice a week
so that students can retain and build up on what
they learned. So I love that type of initiative. All right, now,
(03:03):
d who do you want to shine a light on
on the.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
All the single followers out there today?
Speaker 7 (03:08):
Honestly, I feel like they deserve it, you know, whether
you're raising a son.
Speaker 6 (03:11):
A daughter, or two kids by yourself.
Speaker 7 (03:13):
I just want all the single followers out there to
know that you're greatly appreciated because not a lot of
men step up and do that job by themselves, you know.
So I just really wanted to sign a light out
on all the single dads out there today.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Dee, what's your situation.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
I've raised my daughter by myself for the past thirteen years.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Wow, Well, we commend you for that. Shout out to
all of the great fathers out there who are doing it.
Like you said, you don't get enough recognition. So d
knows what it's like and he wants to shine.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
A light on y'all.
Speaker 6 (03:39):
That's right, I pub out and know that.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
All right, Well, thank you, Dee, We appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (03:44):
No bomb, y'all have a good one you too, All right?
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Well, that would shine a light eight hundred and two
ninety two fifty one fifty just in case you couldn't
get through, you could always leave a message and shine
a light that way. And when we come back, we
have your yeete and we have to start out with
this pouring of love for dm. We also have the
official statement from his family and other people as well
who have worked closely with him and know him.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
It's way up, they say in the.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
Rooms from industry shade to all of gossip out Angela's
spelling that.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, it's way up. But Angela Ei, the gays on here,
my girl, Lindsay Mayo's here, man listen, and we do
have to pay our respects once again to DiAngelo. You know,
yesterday during Way Up, it did break that Di Angelo
has passed away from pancreatic cancer at.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
The age of fifty one.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
His family members did confirm this and a statement that
was shared with Variety, they said, the shining star of
our family has dimmed his life for us in this
life after prolonged and courageous battle with cancer. We are
heartbroken to announce that Michael DiAngelo, Archie known to his
fans around the world as DiAngelo, has been called home,
departing this life today, and they are asking that we
(04:58):
respect their privacy during this difficult time, but all let's
mourn in his his passing while celebrating the gift of
song that he has left for the world.
Speaker 9 (05:06):
I was so shocked about that, just because that came
out of nowhere, and you don't even we don't sometimes
appreciate people like we do.
Speaker 10 (05:13):
He was like a staple of my whole younger life
experience of R and B.
Speaker 11 (05:18):
Right, but then it's like, we don't, we don't actually
appreciate it, appreciate that until somebody's gone.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Remember he did the verses, but it was really like
a performance. But people were like, Okay, I worked for D'Angelo.
That was my second job out of college.
Speaker 8 (05:29):
You literally have.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Every everybody that did how many jobs, Because let's be clear,
after he did the album Brown Sugar, he got his
own label deal called Teaba Sounds at Virgin Records, and
so I left working for Wutang to go work as
the general manager of the label and then D'Angelo Angelo,
and then after that I did marketing.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
I started working at a marketing company.
Speaker 12 (05:51):
But that was really so you got a relationship with him,
you know.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yeah, I knew D'Angelo.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Wow.
Speaker 10 (05:56):
And it's sad because Angie Stone just passed.
Speaker 12 (05:59):
Ohgether.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
She died in a car accident earlier this year. Yeah,
and I remember that his wife, well, no, they she
actually was on the road with him and then they
had a child and listen, during the pandemic. Auntie Stone
and I had like a literal three hour phone conversation
where she was where she was breaking down everything, including
about her relationship with D'Angelo because she knew I knew him,
(06:22):
and she knew I was in the office when they
were dating. And then you know, all of whatever transpired after.
But you know, this is heartbreaking. And I saw that
her son was like, I can't even give a statement.
He's grieving right now and I can't even imagine how
hard that is in the same year. A year, yeah,
and the same year. But there's you know, just so much.
(06:46):
And Lauren Hill put out a statement and you she
doesn't speak, and I was like, I read that whole
nothing even matters was one of my favorite, you know,
slow jams.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
She said, I regret not having more time with you.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Your undeniable beauty and talent were not of this world
and a present It's not if this world needs protection
and a world that covets light and the anointing of God. You, sir,
removed us, stirred us, inspired and even intimidated others to
action with your genius.
Speaker 9 (07:10):
I just think if you love people, you gotta tell them,
and if you love artists, you gotta go see them
support them, even like for me, like teacher Moses, I'll
go to her concert if she's in town, right, It'll
be me and maybe one hundred people in there.
Speaker 10 (07:20):
Everything is not for everybody.
Speaker 9 (07:22):
Everybody don't have to have like a sold out show stadiums,
but you need to go support people.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
And Jill Scott, even before this happened, she said she
never met di'angelo, which people were shocked about. She said,
but I love him, respect him, admire his gift. This
loss hurts and everybody's like, what you because it feels
like they would have run in those circles, you know, together,
But he was like a recluse.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
He wasn't You're not going to just run into di
Angelo somewhere right?
Speaker 2 (07:49):
All right? Well that is your Yet when we come back,
we have about last night where we discussed what we
did last night. I cannot wait to hear about it
because you just flew in because.
Speaker 8 (07:58):
I'm late for work.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Y'all got to tell you just hasn't even slept yet.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
He's working.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
It's okay, so about last night he went down.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
It's that time again. It's time for about last night.
It's all about you, guys though. Lindsey Grange is here,
Maino's here. No, No, you haven't really slept.
Speaker 12 (08:23):
Yeah, your usual because.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
I was looking at your like I told you when
you walked in. I don't be knowing if stuff just
happened like in real time or this is old footage.
Speaker 11 (08:32):
Yeah, now we were shooting the video me Lolo Brook,
Jim Jones. We was you know that song we got
were about to drop, so we can't get that, uh
the shot. So yeah, it was pretty much all day
and night.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
Okay, and look at you still working.
Speaker 10 (08:47):
I'm excited to see it.
Speaker 12 (08:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Now, Lindsay, you just flew in.
Speaker 9 (08:51):
I flew to Newer The ghetto is furthest airport from it.
I love Newark Okay, it is easy airport and.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
It works well, smooth and ye we did it. Controls
having some issues if you guys been following this person
even barely getting it out, but you got the airport
is nice. Yeah, but I went to Chris Brown. I'm
a child. Y'all have a whole child.
Speaker 9 (09:12):
And me and Colin decided last night we're flying to
North Carolina where our friends lived, to go see Chris
Brown and get some floor seats and come back crazy.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Because I felt like that was We thought about it,
we talked about it.
Speaker 9 (09:20):
We're like, wait, this is a big deal, Like this
was our whole college, This is our whole Like Chris
Brown had twenty years of good music.
Speaker 10 (09:25):
That concert was fantastic. I think it's one more show. No,
I come on now.
Speaker 12 (09:31):
First of all, I know.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Like three thousand dollars, take a picture. If find a
way to Chris Brown. You work for everybody, you know,
everybody introduced me to Chris Brown.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
I've met Chris Brown a couple of times, but he
don't really do no interviews.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
I'll say that, you know why because remember that Robin
Roberts I believe interview.
Speaker 9 (09:50):
They said keep Rihanna out of the conversation, like a
decade after they had that incident, and then she brought
it up anyway and the chair and I was thinking
about that a lot, like it's frustrat and I guess
he's trying to get past something, and as a journalist,
you know, it's our job to ask tough questions.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
But then at the same time, it's like, Yo, can
that man have a success?
Speaker 12 (10:11):
I get to change.
Speaker 8 (10:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (10:14):
And this concert that he showed a whole video about
all the different phases of his life and it was
interesting going through it, from him coming out and hitting
the scene as big as he did, to the downfall
and how much we overplayed what happened, and then to
now him having this Breeze Bowl.
Speaker 10 (10:27):
That concert was sold out.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
You know what's good for him though, is sometimes you
have to make the moments for yourself because they're not
going to give you those accolades. And I think Breezey
Bowl was such a huge success for him to show
that he doesn't need like the mainstream support. He's able
to get like his fans to come out and really
do something phenomenal. He's made those meeting greets like a
thing for other artists.
Speaker 6 (10:48):
Now.
Speaker 9 (10:49):
I saw a title in Rolling Stone said Chris Brown
has officially uncanceled himself.
Speaker 10 (10:53):
What do you think?
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Yeah, I think that's been happened. I would have left
it to love to see you and Chris Brown hugged
up in a picture.
Speaker 8 (11:00):
What man they got them?
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Colin, all right, well, when we come back, tell us
a secret. Eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty.
I know it's about to go down because we got
man O here and we got Lindsay here. So eight
hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty. Maybe you've had
a run in with a celebrity that you want to
call us up and you know, keep it anonymous and
tell us about We would love to hear it. Eight
(11:22):
hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty.
Speaker 8 (11:24):
Its way up.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
This is a judgment freeze on.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Tell us a secret, all right, this way up with
Angela yee, I'm here with Mano, you Mayna and Lindsay
Granger hey, and it's time for tell us a secret.
Speaker 6 (11:36):
Now.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
I know I said if you've had a celebrity run in,
and I only asked that because you Lindsay went to
go see Chris Brown and I unfortunately did not have
a run in. Did not down.
Speaker 6 (11:44):
Well.
Speaker 9 (11:44):
Colin did catch me watching the show. He was like, Okay,
you're looking extremely hard and this is one.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Part, but we want to ask you about your secrets.
Eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty anonymous call
it tell us your secret.
Speaker 6 (11:56):
So I gave Mike f some clothes. I'm a clothing
brand owner in Dinnapolis, Indiana, and I gave Mike some
of my clothes. He came to a kid event where
we was doing a sleepery bent and he ain't even
opened the bag. Man, he ain't. He ain't shottered me
out or nothing.
Speaker 11 (12:10):
So because maybe he didn't like it, like just because
you gave a celebrity clothes though it's not a given
that somebody gonna post your clothes.
Speaker 12 (12:18):
Maybe he didn't with it naughty alright, that's what you said.
That's what you said.
Speaker 11 (12:26):
You know how many times people give guys clothes about
all right, like because you.
Speaker 12 (12:31):
Feel in titled dudes be like yo yo when you
wear it, shot me how.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
You know I'm gonna weg It's actually very nice when
somebody does do that. But I think the majority of
the time.
Speaker 12 (12:41):
I felt like he called it like he was doing
something I'm gonna.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
It's not gonna happen, but when it does, it's nice.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
It's a courteous from your end.
Speaker 9 (12:49):
But you gotta remember if celebrities get a million or
like let's say ten of these a week. That's a
lot to request of ten tags ten wearing your outfit
like they might have other plans.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
They might have got paid for that. Yeah, the people
get paid a lot of money for that. So like
you know, yeah, you commercial if you want to send
some stuff up here for Mano though he'll definitely wear it, definitely.
Speaker 6 (13:06):
Okay, I'm definitely gonna say some stuff up there for Mayne. Yeah,
and I'm gonna make sure that I ain't gonna take
my name now because I ain't gonna laugh my cuts
out because he knows me.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
But I'm step third over show all right, thank you
can't wait. Appreciate Well, that was tell us a secret.
I think I swayed to everybody to tell us like
celebrity secrets. Yeah, and yeah, it wasn't as juicy you
open up a can of worms, everybody's like, I'm not somebody.
But if you want to leave one for the last word,
you can and make it juicy. Okay, guys, I'm eight
(13:38):
hundred and two ninety two fifty one fifty. When we
come back, we have your yieche And Kim Kardashian just
did call her daddy. She had a lot of things
to say about. Oh, her relationship with Kanye Has he
seen the kids? Not recently? It's way up.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
Sure, she's about to blow the lid ab off this spot.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Just get it.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
Oh angelus feeling that? Yeeze, Come and get your tea.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Yes, I'm here. It's to wait up.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Lindsay Granger's here.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Hey, may I's here. You're having a good time. I'm
enjoying this. Let's get into this et. So Kim Kardashian
did call her daddy, and she talked about a lot
of different things. I felt like nothing was off the
table right. One thing she talked about was co parenting
with Kanye West. Can you imagine what that's like?
Speaker 13 (14:21):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (14:22):
No, I cannot.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Okay, let's say that.
Speaker 14 (14:24):
What do you think co parenting with Kanye West is like?
It's not easy. But I raised the kids, you know,
full time. They live with me, and I welcome a great,
healthy relationship with my kids and their dad. I pushed
for it all the time, but I also protect them
when it's time for that. And it goes in waves
(14:46):
and phases.
Speaker 9 (14:48):
Yeah, it's really unfortunate because if you think about how
he watched this all fall apart real time and then
I thought he bought her the neighbor's house, so I
thought that he was trying to buy the house next
door to her so we could see the kids often.
Speaker 10 (15:01):
I'm not really sure what happened to that.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
I don't know what's going on, but and listen.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
She also said, though, because I thought he really was
trying really hard to be in his kid's life, right.
Speaker 10 (15:10):
Because his story is that she's blocking himself.
Speaker 11 (15:13):
Right.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Well, here's what she said about that.
Speaker 10 (15:16):
When was the last time Kanye saw the kids?
Speaker 14 (15:19):
Whenever he'll call for them and ask it's probably been
a couple months since we've heard from him.
Speaker 10 (15:27):
How do you handle the disappointment, if any, from the kids? Like,
how do you explain those moments to them?
Speaker 3 (15:33):
A lot of work, my goodness?
Speaker 2 (15:38):
All right. Well, in addition to all of that, she
talked about things that Kanye West would do, like giving
away Lamborghinis.
Speaker 14 (15:45):
We had like five Lamborghinis, and I'd come home and
they'd all be gone. You know, if he was in
an episode and I'd be like, oh, wait, where's all
our cars? Like, and it would be like, oh, he
gave him away to all of his friends, And then
I'd be like, huh, okay, and then I'd come home
again at a different point, we had five more Lamborghinis,
and then I'd wake up and another episode and they'd all.
Speaker 10 (16:05):
Be gone again.
Speaker 14 (16:06):
And that time I was like, keep them guys, but
like I didn't know what you're gonna get when you
wake up. And that's like a really unsettling feeling.
Speaker 10 (16:14):
Wow, that's generous.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
I would feel if somebody gave you a Lamborghini during
an EPISODEOU didn't you feel like I should give it back?
Speaker 1 (16:23):
No?
Speaker 7 (16:28):
Right?
Speaker 12 (16:29):
But he never asked for it back neither.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
But she was I mean, if his wife is like
five Lamborghinis, that's a lot of money.
Speaker 12 (16:37):
Five, get it.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
But they were to give away, I mean, and then
buy more and give them away again.
Speaker 12 (16:45):
She didn't say he gave away minds.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Yeah, yeah, he gave.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Away the Lamborghinis. But when you're married is and everything hours, Yeah,
you can't do stuff like that without consulting. Like, I
feel like I'll be interested in hearing his side of
the Yeah, you.
Speaker 12 (17:00):
Give me a lamoghiny like when you tipsy.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Okay, I don't have one to give me.
Speaker 12 (17:04):
Just try it.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Okay, I'll try it.
Speaker 12 (17:06):
Just try it.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
It's gonna be it.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Can fit in your pocket.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
I can tell you that.
Speaker 6 (17:10):
Now.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
In addition to that, she was asked and this always
was like a trick question, but a time when you
should have been canceled, but you weren't listen to this.
Speaker 14 (17:19):
I don't know who approved this, but I did a
photo shoot with Justin Bieber and he was sixteen years old.
His girlfriend was there, his parents. I mean, it was like,
nothing creepy at all. But I look back and I'm like,
that's the one thing that I feel like, who thought
that that was a good idea? You know, I must
have been thirty years old.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
That is strange. Yeah, like a sixteen year old. You're thirty,
and I remember the running.
Speaker 10 (17:46):
So vividly, right, it was awkward.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Yeah, it's supposed to be like the graduate. In addition
to all of this, By the way, I don't know
if you saw the campaign that she just did for
the new Skims products. Wait with the furry Yeah, with
their thongs but spurry in the front. So it's called
the ultimate bush.
Speaker 12 (18:03):
Yeah, the Ultimate Bush.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
I think that you bullet offous. It's like, yeah, you
got a little crazy.
Speaker 12 (18:08):
You got to see a picture of ultimate bush.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Yeah, what do you think about them.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
I would never wear those.
Speaker 12 (18:14):
I want to see we got you.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
I'm gonna show it to you.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Okay, well that is your yeety when we come back.
We have under the radar. These are the stories that
are not necessarily in the headlines. They're flying under the radar,
but you need to know about them. We are going
to talk about new things that you can do with
chat GPT that you couldn't do before. And this has
to do with sexual content. Oh, it's way up this
in the news that relates to you.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
These stories are flying under the radar.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Yeah, it's way up at Angela. Yee, I'm here, Lindsay
Grangers here, I'm back. Mayno's here and let's go under
the radar. So open Ai has announced plans that they're
going to relax restrictions on its chat GPT chat bot,
so they will also one of those things means that
they're going to allow erotic content for very fight adult
users as part of what they're calling a treat adult
(19:04):
users like adults principle.
Speaker 10 (19:06):
So you know what what THAT'SGBT. I wasn't into it
and then I started abusing it. But now it's going
to the left.
Speaker 9 (19:15):
Now it's going like it's doing too much, so people
are gonna start to be bored and obsessive, and I
think it can go down a rabbit hole with some people.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Well, what they said is that initially they were pretty
restrictive to make sure we were careful with mental health issues,
but they made it less useful and enjoyable for other
certain users. So now they've been able to mitigate the
serious mental health issues and have new tools where they
can safely relax the restrictions in most cases. Okay, so
(19:42):
oh and that's interesting because I saw this report too.
This survey shows one in five high schoolers have had
a romantic AI relationship.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
May and maybe you get an AI wife.
Speaker 10 (19:52):
Who oh yeah, I was gonna ask you, what happened
to your wedding?
Speaker 12 (19:54):
Yes?
Speaker 11 (19:54):
Coming, We just postponed it like July, Yeah, which is
a low twenty six, and they had to move it back.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
I'm going to let you know the date. Well, you
might be able to get on there and see what.
Speaker 10 (20:05):
The taxes you use so that you can move forward
with that wedding.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Yeah, all right. And another thing that's happening now with Netflix,
they've teamed up with Spotify and they're going to stream
a selection of Spotify video podcasts starting in twenty twenty six,
So shows from the Ringer Spotify studios will initially be
available on Netflix in the United States, and they're going
to bring a bunch of top original podcasts to subscribers worldwide.
(20:30):
So the Bill Simmons podcast is one of those. The
Rewatchables also a true crime series. You know those are
always like top rated podcast deal the podcast space.
Speaker 9 (20:43):
I thought that it hit had like hit the boom
of the bubble, but it's I guess it just didn't
Like I was way off on it. I feel like
the grandma was just getting into it, like I, you've
been in it for a while.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Yeah, I've been doing it for a long time.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Yeah, I feel like it's you know, may started to
scratch the surface and you just started your new season
for your podcast too.
Speaker 10 (20:59):
For World of Travel as we've created a podcast.
Speaker 9 (21:01):
Version of our show where we interview people and talk
all about the people that love to travel the world,
which is pretty much everybody, even if it's like your
hometowns or internationally.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Kim episode tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Yeah, Kim Fields is so dope.
Speaker 10 (21:14):
She loves saleh She like goes there so often. We'll
talk more about it.
Speaker 9 (21:18):
But she, Uh, I feel like when you find out
where people love to go, you kind of learn a
little bit about them, Like you love the Caribbean.
Speaker 11 (21:23):
I do.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Yeah, And I saw you at Carnival before.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
We're going to Carnival again, and I come, yeah, we're
going for New Year's.
Speaker 12 (21:30):
We're going to my hometown.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Yeah, what's that St Croix?
Speaker 6 (21:33):
No?
Speaker 12 (21:33):
You all in Nigerian?
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Well that too, that's our background. But we'll talk about that.
And Meno has a podcast now to tell me about it.
Speaker 11 (21:40):
Yeah, it's call Let's Rap about It Me Fabulous Davis
Jim Jones. Our second episode is dropping in about twenty minutes.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Oh okay, so we'll have some exclusives for you in
the next et period.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
They already went viral thanks to Mano from the first episode,
but we'll talk about that too.
Speaker 15 (21:56):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
We got the Way Up mix at the top of
the hour. Plus it is a Wealthy Wednesday. We have
Vivian Coxsphraser joining us. She is the CEO and President
of Urban League of Essex County. All right, it's way up.
It's like the talk like they Angela Jean, Like they
Angela Jean.
Speaker 5 (22:12):
Man she's spilling it all. This is yet way.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Yeah, it's whay ya put it into la yee. I'm
here with Lindsay Canter Hey and Mano.
Speaker 12 (22:23):
Listen.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Mano has his podcast episode two.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Is it out yet?
Speaker 12 (22:27):
Rapt out right now? Okay, out right now, right now YouTube,
let's rap about it.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Yeah, and we do have a little sneak preview in
case you haven't watched, well, how could you have? It
just came out this episode yet. But this is you
as fab as Davies and Jim Jones. And here is
this conversation.
Speaker 11 (22:45):
Somebody form like a boys and Men famous in like
the nineties. Right they may walk down the street right now,
they may not be as famous no more like that's
the fact nobody might not name fades.
Speaker 12 (22:56):
This is what I'm saying.
Speaker 11 (22:57):
I think famous also generational unless you last, fame is
definitely worse something.
Speaker 10 (23:03):
But I think it's just that you could get some
off your face card just for being famed.
Speaker 12 (23:07):
It could be broke.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
So you're trying to say at getting.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
This they go to straight for no reason.
Speaker 11 (23:16):
No, we were just basically saying famous is not real
sometimes like it's it's man giving. Sometimes you can be
famous in one era and they're not.
Speaker 12 (23:26):
Famous no more.
Speaker 10 (23:26):
It comes to the end of the road, like somebody
be a legend for somebody and these new.
Speaker 11 (23:30):
Kids somebody who right, So it's like, you know, it's
it's from whose point of view? Right, it's like for
somebody that's totally not in that that that social circle,
Like I don't.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Know who that is, right, No, you're right about that.
There's people that are so famous in the pop world
and I have no idea.
Speaker 10 (23:47):
But the one it's called like the Girls, she is
like the girl.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Sorry, wow, like she won all these awards. Okay, forget
it all right, that's a good point though, Yeah, right,
but that but.
Speaker 12 (24:06):
That makes the point right there.
Speaker 11 (24:07):
So it's like you've been famous in this social area
and famous in this area or this era.
Speaker 12 (24:14):
But not this one.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Well, listen, I'll tell you who.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
And listen.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
I think we're reality shows. We see that a lot too.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Writ When a show ends or somebody's not on the
show anymore, sometimes people go from.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Being famous to not being famous anymore.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Now, let's on that note, let's talk about Real Housewives
of Potomac Wendy Cephoe. She and her husband were arrested
on sixteen charges, including insurance fraud, and they are alleging
that they wrongfully reported items were stolen in a burglary
for financial purposes. One thing that happened is Wendy was
also a distinguished professor at Wesleyan University. That's the university
(24:51):
I attended. When she was on Way Up with Angela Yee,
she actually talked about the curriculum and what she was teaching.
Speaker 16 (24:57):
So I rode a course and has titled The Sociology
of Reality. This course really examines the way reality TV
is a reflection about everyday lives and it tackles some
important subjects from racism to colorism, to gender roles.
Speaker 10 (25:11):
To sexuality.
Speaker 16 (25:12):
And I've had such an amazing time the students have.
Speaker 12 (25:16):
I just love it.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
Well, it's not happening anymore.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Wesleyan put out a statement that she's no longer an
employee of Wesleyan University. Now people are saying that she
stepped down. First, though, I just want to clarify it
wasn't like she got fired. They are saying that she
did step down, So you know. In addition to that,
one of Wendy's neighbors allegedly slid into the DMS of
a cast member from Real Housewives of Orange County and
(25:42):
had this to say allegedly about the whole insurance for
a situation.
Speaker 17 (25:48):
Her neighbors slid into my DM basically that they all
got notices on their front door or in their mailbox
that there have been a burglary and it was at
the you know, Wendy and Eddie's house. The whole entire
neighborhood was thinking this is insurance fraud, but they all
thought something was kind of shady about it, and that
(26:09):
was in the Two.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
Ties podcast with Tama Judge. So we'll keep you updated.
I know she's a friend.
Speaker 10 (26:15):
Yeah, So Wendy is full disclosure of my friend. I mean,
I'm not close friend.
Speaker 9 (26:19):
We went to school together and we rebuilt our friendship
kind of as adults in the last two years. We
were spending time together and I'm really was just shocked
and sad to hear this. And it's kind of like
one of those situations where I mean like reaching out
and saying I hope everything's okay, or like like what
are you supposed to do right now? Everything's not okay
obviously if this is wrong, if she's wrongfully feels like
she's being accused of something. Then that's a huge problem
(26:39):
because it's already putting a stain on her name. But
if she has done anything like this, that they're a legend,
and that's kind of wild. And so I just really
hope she has kids and a family. And I was
just admiring all the different things she had going on recently,
like her daughter was in a commercial for Gaby's Dollhouse,
and like she had all these big moments and then
at the same time this has happening.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
So we'll keep you all updated as we're learning new things.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
That is your Yet when we come back, let's talk
about World of Travel the new season. Things are up
and up and up for you, Lindsay.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
It's way up, way up with Angela Yee.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
More now, all right, way up with Angela Yee. I'm
here with my guy man now, Lindsay, Grangers here.
Speaker 10 (27:16):
Oh, gangs here.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Colin is actually going to be joining us and he
is your co host, co host.
Speaker 10 (27:21):
Partner, partner everything, co worker.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
Baby Daddy, Baby Daddy.
Speaker 6 (27:26):
Yeah forget.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
But we want to talk about worlds of Travel because
this is something you've been doing, but now you've taken
it to new Heights.
Speaker 9 (27:37):
Yes, So you know, I was working with News Nation
and The Hill, and so I started a new role
with them, hosting a morning show. And in addition to that,
part of my Rising in the Morning and that, in
addition to that, part of my contract and Colonize agreement
through our production company, Guilded Focus, is that they licensed
World of Travel, our show that we developed, produced Creative owned,
distributed internationally and now in the US ourselves.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
Yeah, and that's so important because you guys really developed
this and were able to bring it and I know
it's sometimes it's hard to get the funding, and you
really financed a.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Lot of that yourselves to start with.
Speaker 10 (28:10):
Yeah, Colin could tell you the story. I mean went broke.
Speaker 12 (28:15):
You know, we had a dream and we put the
money down and made it happen. So you know, we're
here now.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
And it was a trip to Saint Lucia that kind
of sparked all of this. Yeah, So Colin and I
started dating.
Speaker 9 (28:24):
He was like, you know, I drive from Beaumont to
New Orleans and do stuff like that, and I'm like,
let's go to Iceland for my birthday.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Let's do it.
Speaker 9 (28:29):
He's like, Yo, this stuff is expensive and He's like, well,
aren't you just be an influencer?
Speaker 18 (28:36):
So the story call all right. Lindon wanted to travel
the world. She wanted to leave from Denver to go
to Iceland. I said, why you want to go from
cold to COLDE? I said, if you want to go
to cold to colde just telling people, let's make it
cheap for ourselves. So she reached out to the people
in Iceland and told him she could put them on
Instagram or whatever. Right, and so they rolled out the
red carpet and from there we saw, I mean, the
(29:00):
hotel manager.
Speaker 6 (29:03):
You do it.
Speaker 9 (29:04):
I'm sure you could get way more things than I did.
But they were acting so dramatic about it, like rolling
out the right carpet. And then so we went to
Saint Lucia, actually after George Floyd, because I was a
news reporter and I was talking about George Floyd every day,
and one day I started crying on air because it
was hard to like balance and be objective.
Speaker 10 (29:17):
It wasn't really objective to me.
Speaker 9 (29:19):
And the owner of this hotel, Stonefield Villas, called me
it's in Saint Lucia and said, you seem like you
need a reset and a break. Why don't you just
come stay on us during this time, and Colin and
I had just bought a camera then, trying to take
it more seriously than in Iceland, and.
Speaker 10 (29:33):
That really launched Goot.
Speaker 12 (29:37):
Colin was taking it.
Speaker 9 (29:37):
More seriously because he taught himself how to do. He
wasn't even working in this industry. Colin was working in
insurance for years, in which industry.
Speaker 12 (29:43):
We started recording.
Speaker 18 (29:44):
I found out I quickly we had something right, and
so I started putting the story together and tried to
sell it and got embarrassed trying to sell it. And
then you know, we just put the right pieces together
and we were able to get the show license and
seventy two countries and one hundred and seventy two.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
See how amazing that is. I see Nyno's will turn
it already, Nobody gonna get you a show. He's thinking about.
Speaker 12 (30:02):
Where I'm going on a couple of shows. I die
with her, you know, so get with me. I'm working
on a couple of things.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Definitely talk where do you want to get married?
Speaker 19 (30:12):
You know?
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Oh yeah, your wedding special could be our thing.
Speaker 12 (30:15):
Yeah, we got to put that together.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Show getting married.
Speaker 12 (30:22):
We talked about it. We already have that, so I'm
gonna show you'm sh let's get it. Let's get it.
Speaker 11 (30:28):
Your show is based around like people traveling, because I
want to come in there and talk about the time
the first time I went to Japan and I was
looking for Benny.
Speaker 10 (30:35):
Hannah come on with shooting DC was awful.
Speaker 12 (30:38):
They was like, I was like, yeah, how about you?
How about you?
Speaker 2 (30:42):
That was American about you guys?
Speaker 13 (30:47):
Crazy.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
But anyway, the podcast is out right now, y'.
Speaker 9 (30:50):
Just go to the Hills YouTube channel and also will
be everywhere the Hill and on News Nation and check
us out because the new season comes out in the
fall November nineteenth.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Okay, we love it all right, Well, listen you guys.
When we come back, we have to ask Ye. I
know that we got more to talk about, but ask
ye eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty. We're
here to help you out. Call us up any question
you have. Eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty.
Ask Yee is next.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Everybody since whether it's relationship or career advice, Angela's dropping facts,
you should know.
Speaker 5 (31:19):
This is ask Ye.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
What's up? His way up at Angela? Yee, I'm here
Lindsay Grangers here, what's up? Mayno's here right, and we
got Robert on the line for ask ye hey, Robert, Hey,
what's your question today?
Speaker 6 (31:32):
So I'm talking to three women and I was trying
to figure out which one I need to take.
Speaker 11 (31:36):
Seriously, Okay, hands boom, you should First of all, you
should change as you need to sound a lot more
brighter than that.
Speaker 12 (31:43):
This is not a problem. It's not a problem. A
problem you're dating off your problem to add I'll say
put them all.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Three together, okay, he said, So you have to have
somebody that you're leaning more towards.
Speaker 15 (31:58):
I do, girl named I started talking to her a
month ago. We've been on three dates already.
Speaker 6 (32:04):
But my biggest drawback where it's her and she do
only fans, So I don't.
Speaker 12 (32:09):
Know about that.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
But is it like just for feet, but you guys
have only been on three dates?
Speaker 12 (32:18):
Yeah, you shouldn't only fan shame though like that, like
she out there.
Speaker 6 (32:24):
I'm not shaming.
Speaker 15 (32:25):
I supported and I've been good with her, but I
just don't know how I feel if I actually started dating.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Both get rid. Does she make more than you?
Speaker 19 (32:37):
Nah?
Speaker 15 (32:37):
She had a big account and then she deleted her
big account and she just started.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
Doing it again.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Okay, and then the other two a struggling only fans
struggling That already sounds.
Speaker 12 (32:47):
Like a lot.
Speaker 10 (32:48):
So the other two have more to the table, like
they're a stupid businesswoman or what we got? What else
we got on?
Speaker 15 (32:52):
I got one girl that's in the army that I
was talking to, and then another girl she a little
bit younger than me, like six years, and work them all.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
It feels like you like the only fans girl the
most so far? Why do you have to Why do
you have to settle down? I feel like sometimes when
you want to make that decision, it kind of happens.
Speaker 6 (33:12):
You're definitely right about that.
Speaker 15 (33:14):
I'm a big relationship with God.
Speaker 10 (33:16):
That's beautiful.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Yeah, but you also don't want to force it. First
of all, these women dating other people are just you.
You might they might not even be an option.
Speaker 15 (33:24):
One of them is dating other people that I know about,
But I'm taking the most serifully.
Speaker 6 (33:29):
She isn't dat nobody else.
Speaker 10 (33:31):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
Well, I think that if this is the person you're
talking to the most and spending the most time with,
it does make the other things fall off.
Speaker 9 (33:38):
But also if you're dating don't put all your eggs
in one basket. It's only been three dates, that's the thing.
So I feel like it's too early for Yeah, it's
too early for.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
You to know where this is going. And again, don't
force it. You might not end up with any one
of them, I'm saying, but you might find somebody that's
that's really perfect, because I do think you know there's
content out there. This is it feels like it is
some thing that is going to bother you. And you
can't tell somebody to not do what they've been doing.
But I also feel like it's only been three dates.
(34:07):
It's a little premature.
Speaker 15 (34:09):
It is definitely maybe I'm just thinking about it right now.
Speaker 12 (34:12):
There, you're just a sucker for love.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Oh yeah, that's sweet.
Speaker 12 (34:15):
That's a beautiful thing.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Listen, still look still be sweet, Still cheat all of
them good and be honest. You don't have to lie
to anybody about anything.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Okay, I got you? All right, good luck?
Speaker 2 (34:26):
That's cute. A guy is trying to settle down after
three days. All right, Well, it is a wealth Wednesday.
Dating is expensive. But we do have Vivian Coxspraces joining us.
She is the Urban League of Essex County CEO and president,
and we'll be talking about all of the things that
you need to know about that the Urban League can
(34:47):
help provide in this time.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
That's a little shaky, guys.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
All right, it's Wealth Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
It's way up, kind a dream of wealthy and I
don't mind sharing my wealth dog getting you straight financially,
mentally and physically.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
This is Wealth Wednesday on way up with Angelaee.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
What's up? It's way up with Angela yee. I'm here
with my Wealth Wednesday partner, Stacy Tuesday.
Speaker 12 (35:07):
Hey, everybody, we.
Speaker 19 (35:08):
Are really excited to have Vivian Cox from the Essex
County Urban League with us today, the president and CEO,
President and CEO OFSX County Urban League.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Yes, Vivian Coxphasia, thank you for joining us.
Speaker 8 (35:19):
Thank you for having me.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
I want people to understand exactly what the Urban League does.
Speaker 20 (35:24):
Sure so, every urban league sort of response to needs
in its own communities, but in Essex County we're located
in Newark. Our main services range fromant and tyler childcare
all the way to senior programs. Most people know the
Urban Leagues for workforce development. We have strong training programs
and construction training programs, we have clean energy programs. So
(35:46):
our services really are about helping families advance economically. So
we have something called the Financial Opportunity Center. You have
your investment partner here today, but so you know, really
about getting your money straight and helping families get on
a better trajectory through financial coaching and planning.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Right now, it's a Wealth Wednesday, and I'm with Stacy Tisday.
We have Vivian Coxprasion with us. She's the president and
CEO of Urban League of Ess County.
Speaker 8 (36:11):
Tell us more about that the Financial Opportunity Center.
Speaker 20 (36:14):
So the Financial Opportunity Center really is built around the
idea that yes, people need to get their financials in order,
but generally speaking, most families don't have enough money coming
into their household. So we pair the financial coaching with
the employment services. So the first service you get, we
do an income benefit screening, so we want to make
sure everything your family's entitled to receive, you're getting those
(36:37):
resources into your household. So many of our clients are
low and moderate income family, so maybe they need a
childcare subsidy, or maybe they need some sort of health benefits,
things like that. We make sure everything they're entitled to receive.
Speaker 8 (36:50):
They get it.
Speaker 20 (36:51):
Then we pair you with a financial coach. So now
that we know everything you can have in your household,
we're going to try to balance you.
Speaker 8 (36:57):
Out, clean up your credit.
Speaker 20 (36:59):
Do you need to know, cut out some of those
services you've been buying, you know, just different things like that.
And then once we get you stable, then we talk
about how do you build how do you build assets
and build wealth?
Speaker 3 (37:10):
And you know, mostly, man, I love everything you just
said right now.
Speaker 20 (37:14):
And also the Urbanans approach is really a holistic approach.
So we work with the entire family. And a lot
of times, especially I say, like black women, you know,
we don't want to deprive our children, but it's also
realistic to say this we can do and this we
can't do. And we find once once you talk to
an entire family and they have a better sense of
you know, what their goals are as a family, and
(37:36):
does this decision you're making help the family or doesn't
hurt the family?
Speaker 19 (37:40):
Right, your whole model takes people out of the shame
and blame dynamic. And then when they have those conversations,
when you have a really open, honest conversation with your kid,
like tell them what your financial mistakes for your challenge
is where that's where the real gold is reship.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Because you know, sometimes people don't even want to admit
that to themselves. I think gets better when you are
working towards a solution than when you still feel stuck
in a situation. And sometimes it is just as simple
as going in and taking that step, that first step
to say I need some help and having somebody that
can help quote you through that, because a lot of
that you can't necessarily or you shouldn't have to do
(38:19):
it on your own, not when there's resources that's available
for you. All Right, it's a wealth Wednesday. I'm here
with my girl, Stacy Tisdale, and Vivian Cox Fraser is here.
She is the CEO and president of Urban League of
Essex County. Now while she is the New Jersey CEO,
there are Urban Leagues across the nation and she has
valuable information for you in terms of anything that you
(38:41):
might need when it comes to finance, re entry, everything
from babies up to senior citizens.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
It's way up the dream of wealthy and I don't
mind sharing my wealth dog getting you straight financially, mentally
and physically.
Speaker 5 (38:54):
This is Wealth Wednesday on Way Up with Angela Yee.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
What's up? Its Way up with Angela ye Happy Wealth Wednesday.
I'm here with Stacy Tisdale and we had Vivian Cox Frasier.
She is the president and CEO of the Urban League
of Essex County and now housing is another really important
tenant for the Urban League of Essex County. So talk
to me about how housing is something that you also
focus on.
Speaker 20 (39:15):
Sure, so we actually have I guess years ago we
started with housing counseling, really first time home buyers programs
and things like that to help people build wealth through
home ownership. But about ten years ago I started looking
into developing. So we wanted to develop our own housing
because I actually can create jobs and opportunities in your community,
(39:35):
and also to address the racial wealth gap.
Speaker 8 (39:38):
We wanted to have home ownership accessible to family.
Speaker 20 (39:41):
So in Newark, the average family probably makes about forty
five thousand dollars a year. The way housing market is going,
they couldn't afford anything, right, So my goal was to
build housing for the average working family in Newark. So
we just finished eight homes. We do two family homes
so that people have an income unit producing we're selling
those for under two hundred thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
See, that's amazing because housing is definitely one of the
biggest issues that we're facing. Another thing that you guys
do is also help people negotiate with landlords when it
comes to housing too.
Speaker 8 (40:13):
Yeah, eviction has such multiple impacts.
Speaker 20 (40:16):
So if you think about the children in the household,
if a family's evicted, they're disrupted in.
Speaker 8 (40:21):
Schools and everything.
Speaker 20 (40:22):
So keeping families in their apartments is very important for
the stability, long term stability, and so we do have
counselors that negotiate with landlords. We also if we can
access funds, we can access funds for first month's run,
security deposits, things like that, and we can help families
get stabilized, you know. But the main thing is with
(40:44):
all the government cuts, a lot of those funds are
not accessible to us. So the need is much greater
than the funds are available.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Right now, it's a Wealth Wednesday and I'm with Stacy Tisday.
We have Vivian Coxphrasia with us. She's the president and
CEO of Urbanly of Essex County. How have you seen
the services that you've been able to provide get affected
by a lot of these cuts.
Speaker 20 (41:06):
So we're down about four million dollars this year. Wow,
Diurban Multiple programs are being impacted at the same time,
rental assistance, childcare assistance, housing, all of these things are being.
Speaker 8 (41:19):
Cut at one time.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
And so many people are unemployed, So many people unemployed.
Prices of everything is up, groceries, everything.
Speaker 20 (41:26):
We do have some corporations who have supported us over
the years, right, they know the value of the work
that we do.
Speaker 8 (41:33):
Many of the foundations have stepped up, and.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
That's what we have to do now. And so to
that point, you do have a job there, Yes, that's
coming up. Can you tell us about that?
Speaker 20 (41:44):
Yeah, So we have a job fair on October fifteenth,
the Financial Opportunity Center, I said, it has financial the
financial component plus the employment component.
Speaker 8 (41:52):
But my employment team is there with well with all
the employers, you know.
Speaker 20 (41:56):
So we help the clients to come in to scrint,
get them prepared for interviews, get them prepared with their
resumes and everything, so they're prepared for the job.
Speaker 6 (42:04):
There.
Speaker 19 (42:04):
There's so many people out there who need the Urban
League services. How do they go about finding the help
they need in their areas and here?
Speaker 8 (42:12):
And that's a town that you can find us on
the web bet dot org.
Speaker 20 (42:16):
We're also on Instagram, I think, and my social media
people will say urbanly GC, we're on LinkedIn.
Speaker 8 (42:23):
I'm on LinkedIn too.
Speaker 20 (42:24):
But one thing about Urban Links is we do have
a full time staff. They're there to help you every
day and to be uh, you know.
Speaker 8 (42:32):
With compassion.
Speaker 2 (42:33):
All right, well, thank you so much, President Vivian Cockspirazor
for joining us today.
Speaker 3 (42:37):
