Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is what you all been waiting for.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Oh you're tapped in the way up with Angela yee.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Oh, yes we are. What's up? It's way up with
Angela yee. My guy Keen Woods is here. Hey, comedian extraordinary.
We're about to order food because you're always like, first
thing you say is I'm hungry. I care hungry as
soon as you walk in. I'm really excited that we
have a legend joining us today, Sister Nancy. There's a
documentary bomb Bomb, the Story of Sister Nancy, and that
(00:32):
has been like at all the festivals. It's not yet
on streaming services here. I think it was for a
second that it was gone, but they're going to bring
it back. You know who sister Nancy is?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
I do not?
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Okay, Well, perhaps you know the song bomb Bomb and
if you've ever seen the movie Belly, Yes, errors, I
feel like this song. Who doesn't know this?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Everyone knows this song? Yeah, I didn't know. I knew
who the artist was.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
I would have saying it, but it wouldn't have done
her justice. So I just made sure that you had
a chance to do. And it's a documentary about her, yes,
just you know, and the story wasn't. I had reported
on this a while ago, but that song was out
for I want to say, it was like it's forty
years old, Oh wow, and she was not making any
(01:19):
money from it. It was the most sampled song in
reggae ever in history. And she didn't realize that she
should have been getting paid for all those years until
her daughter was watching, well, watching belly and it was
in Belly and then a Rebot commercial.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Oh wow.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
So she'll tell you what happened legally with that, what
she did manage to get done.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
But I hope she got some money.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
All right. But anyway, let's start the show with some
love and some positivity. Let's shine a light eight hundred
and two ninety two fifty one fifty Call us up,
Let us know who you want to shine a light on.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Its way up, Shame, I'm sha turn your lights on,
y'all spreading love to those who are doing greatness.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Light, shine the light on.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
It's time to shine.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
A light on them, all right? His way up at Angela. Yeah,
I'm here with akem Woods.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (02:08):
All right? And today I want to shine a light
on Esther Wallace. She's a former D one basketball player
turned designer and she did a coal pitch to the WNBA.
What she saw was that NBA's biggest stars, if you
like them, you could buy their merchandise, but it was
a lot harder to find jerseys for the WNBA players,
and so her brand Play a Society could help fill
(02:30):
that gap. That's what she told the merchandising team. She
proposed a partnership with the league. After the Las Vegas
Aces won the WNBA Championship. Over the weekend, her brand
sold six figures of Aces merchandise, and she said back
in twenty twenty one, her first meeting with the league,
she said, I did not feel ready at all, but
when you get an opportunity, you just figure it out.
(02:51):
The first collaboration she did in twenty twenty one sold
out in an hour, and today it's sold in over
one hundred stores across the country. It's been more by
Asia Wilson, Caitlyn Clark, Steph Curry, all of these heavy hitters,
and so got of love. When somebody sees something that
there's a need for and they're like and they feel
the void, we can fill that void for you. And
(03:13):
the work that she's been putting in for the past
four years has definitely been coming back to her. All right.
Shout out to you Esther, Wallace and Dionne. Now, who
do you want to shine a light on?
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Oh my kids mother.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Her name is Hale m.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
All right, Haley. Are you guys together? That's just you
just co parenting.
Speaker 6 (03:31):
We together, were together.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Okay, why did you not say my lady and my
children's mother. I don't know, I don't know, all right,
So tell me about Haley.
Speaker 6 (03:42):
Okay, Haley is the perfect mother. She stays home with
the kids. Why you know, make the money, she makes,
that the house is playing, make sure food is on
the table, make sure I'm good mentally, she does it all.
She's super warming.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
And let's never negate. That is hard work being at
home taking care of everything like that, and so it
helps you be more relaxed too with what you have
to do.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Oh yeah, most define all right.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
We shout out to both of you. Well, that was
China Light eight hundred and two ninety two fifty one fifty.
If you couldn't get through, you could leave a message
in China Light that way. And when we come back,
beef in these streets, all right, Clarissa Schells versus Laila Ali.
You know they've been going back and forth. At first,
I thought it was like getting people hyped up and
(04:28):
wanting to do a fight, but help feels like it
is for real, very personal. It's way up to say in.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
The rooms from industry shade to all of gosp out
send Angela's feeling that eat.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
It's way up at Angela. Yee, I'm here, A Keen
Woods is here.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Boom lest it is?
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Eat?
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Give us all right.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
So Clarissa Shields was on million dollar's worth of game,
and you know she does not hold back when it
comes to expressing what she thinks, especially in her sport
of boxing. And here's what you have to say about
Layla Ali, because you know they've been having this back
and forth. Clarissa really wants to fight her. As a
matter of fact. Just how y'all know, Laila Ali said
for fifteen million dollars, and Clarissa got the fifteen million
(05:09):
dollars and was ready to fight, and Laila Ali does
not seem to want to do it. So here's what
Clarissa said.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
And the thing with you and Layla Lee going on
is that that's not gonna happen that fight. Come on now,
listen shed she turned the money down.
Speaker 7 (05:22):
She did, And I won't take the high road like
Terrence Crawford and say she was the best in her era. Actually,
I'm not gonna lie and Wolfe was the best in
her era and I'm the best in this era. Laila
Ali is just Mohamma Ali's daughter.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Ooh ouch.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
But you know she also and listen, this is boxing.
She could also be trying to get her to be like,
you know what, let me shut her up this fight now,
Layla Ali has to responded to Clarissa Shills. She put
up a disc track in the video.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
And dis track.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Well it's not her, Okay, no, it's not her. She
posted it. But here's what she had to say.
Speaker 8 (05:59):
Now.
Speaker 9 (05:59):
There was really a lot of talk about me possibly
making her come back to boxing, and there was even
a fifteen million dollar challenge and a whole lot of chatter,
a whole lot has men said, except I didn't get
in the conversation until now. And you know what, I
don't even want this person's image on my page. I
want you to go to this page because I'm going
to be dropping my response very very soon.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
So, in other words, she don't even want her on
her main page. She made a whole brand new page
to address Clarissa's shiite and said she'd be dropping a
full detailed video part one and part two very soon,
so turn on your notifications. It's it's Leila ali Ko
if anybody wants to follow it and see what's going
to happen with that all Right now, Kaylani is speaking out.
(06:45):
There's a viral video showing her dancing with Ice Spice
at the club, and of course people online are saying
different things, And here's what Kaylini has to say, because
she feels like people think everything that she does is pause.
Y'all think everything I do is gay.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
But when straight girls go.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Out and kick it with their homegirls and do homegirl
drunk in the club, it's not gay. Y'all be drunk
making out in the club and be calling yourself straight
and it's still not gay to y'all. So just because
I'm dancing with somebody and having fun, it don't mean
I'm trying to holler at them, is what she's trying
to say.
Speaker 10 (07:21):
People do love, love, love throng gay round, You're not gay.
That's if you say no homework, often it takes it away.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
It's okay, it's fine. Yeah, you think it takes it away.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
I think so.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Yeah, Like if you're dancing with your homeboys, I'm to
be gay.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
That's a fact.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Yeah, pause pause, all right, and that is your yee tee.
When we come back, we have about last night. I
was actually at a galla last night for pal PA
out the Police Athletic League, So I'll give you some
details about that. Of course, we got to hear what
you've been up to.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
I've been out here, You've been outside telling jokes.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
It's way up.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
So about last night I went down.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Yeah, but Angela, Ye, I'm here with my guy Akeen Woods.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (08:08):
What was your night? Like? Last night?
Speaker 10 (08:10):
I started rewatching a show and then I realized, I'm like, oh,
I forgot the show makes me cry?
Speaker 1 (08:14):
What show was that?
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Do you ever pose?
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (08:17):
Yes, Billie Porter, Yeah, I'm episode one three and five
makes me cry.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
I'm sorry, but it's such a great sho.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
I'm sorry that happened to you, but it's all good. Well,
yesterday I was at the pal gala in New York City,
the Police Athletic League. I know they have police athletic
leagues all over. So it was their fiftieth annual Superstar Gala.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Were you like all dressed up in little gala dress?
Speaker 1 (08:40):
I wasn't like super I had on a dress and
some heels. I guess for me, that's dressed up because
I'm on a sweatsuit today.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Yeah, well you at work. I got sweatpans on. So
we've both live in our lives.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
So yeah, so thank you to Omar and Anna for
the invites. But you know it was I'm gonna tell
you something that happened. Have you ever been to an
event and you like been on some of the items
that were for sale? So I now have a vacation.
What's in Mexico somewhere. I don't even know where or
the name of the resort or anything. I just know
it's some type of you know what it is. What
(09:12):
I realized is that when you go to stuff like
this and you donate money, I'd rather bid on something
and get something.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Yeah, so is it how long do you have to
take it?
Speaker 1 (09:23):
I think you have I want to say, a year
and a half before you have to go on it.
But yes, so that's what happens. When you get a
little tipsy and then you start is it a vacation
for two yes, yes, yes, but you do have to
pay for your flight. Still, it's just the actual it
is the resort. Yeah, it's just the actual hotel stay.
So you know, I guess it gets donated and you've
been on it. I wasn't. Yeah, you know, sometimes you've
(09:44):
been and you you don't really think you're gonna win
your and then.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
You do, well, enjoy, enjoy.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
I don't know, we'll enjoy what Mexico. But anyway, no
more tequila for a day. But I want to talk
about something that happened. Kim Kardashian recently was on call
her daddy and she was talking about just being Kanye's
ex and had that affected her dating life. She felt
(10:13):
like it wasn't fair to say, Pete Davidson, we have
the audio.
Speaker 11 (10:17):
There has been situations where like I'll get maybe close
to someone, then it's like we will wait, I don't
really want to deal with your ex if he's going
to say something and I'm like, but it is a
big thing, and I get it.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Has that ever happened to anybody in the room. We'll
talk about it. Have you ever said I can't date
because of my crazy ex? No? No, yeah, because you
like never mind, I'm not even gonna say it. Have
I ever felt like I had a crazy ex? Not
since I was really young. I think most of my
exes have been pretty chill. But I definitely think when
(10:53):
I was like in college in high school, that's when
I dated. I got all the crazy guys out of
my system. I have one guy in high school a
knife on someone, yeah, and threatened them. But anyway, we
want to hear from you. Eight hundred two ninety two
fifty one fifty. Have you ever been unable to date
due to a crazy X? About this crazy X two
nine two fifty one fifty who had a crazy X
(11:15):
and couldn't date because of it? That's eight hundred two
ninety two fifty one fifty.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
It's coool.
Speaker 10 (11:21):
You are a media maven, right, you never know what
AND's gonna say?
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Yo, you don't. It's the way you put antela. Yeah,
I'm here with akem Woods and we're talking about the
time that you had a crazy X that because of
him you couldn't date somebody else. And this all comes
from Kim Kardashian Apparently, when she did call her daddy.
She talked about the aftermath of dating Khan or being
married to Kanye.
Speaker 11 (11:45):
There has been situations where like I'll get maybe close
to someone, then it's like we will will wait, I
don't really want to deal with your ex if he's
going to say something, and I'm like, but it is
a big thing, and I get it.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
All right. Well, has that that's never happened to you
because you have no exes?
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Correct?
Speaker 1 (12:03):
You don't even have one X? We got to exchange that.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
I mean, listen, I'm available.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
I'm available to date and break up fast.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Well, I've had a couple of situations, but they all
were when I was younger. I had one ex that
when I would come home one day, he was like
waiting in the bushes. But I wasn't even out with anybody.
I was like just out with my homegirls.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Sitting in the bushes to wait for someone.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Yeah, and I loved with my parents at the time,
so that was wild. I've been had like crazy exes.
I have one ex that would actually find out who
I was dating and contact the person. Yeah, but guys
are competitive. And then I had one X that pulled
a knife on somebody. This is when I was in
high school. He found out the guy gave me flowers
at school and then approached him.
Speaker 10 (12:47):
Yeah, yeah, that's hype of toxic masculinely I don't have
or want all.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Right, Well, Natasha, tell us about your crazy X that
didn't let you date anybody know you.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
Ax Once I told him I was dined, dumb with
the situation. Life for Inns is like some of the
incident I had. I came home to work one day.
My rights were cut off, so I called a power
biller place. I said, I, what's going out my rights?
My right if I.
Speaker 12 (13:09):
Had it here.
Speaker 13 (13:09):
I'm like, well, you know.
Speaker 14 (13:10):
Your husband called and said, you know, y'all need to.
Speaker 13 (13:13):
Turn lights off.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
I'm like, I'm not even Harry, how's that possible?
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Wait?
Speaker 12 (13:20):
The answer in right, Okay.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
I come out of the house and you know, you
go the words my car is like smoking. I'm like,
what's wrong with my car? He pour an acid on
my car?
Speaker 3 (13:29):
Acid? Where do you even get asked?
Speaker 12 (13:33):
I have no idea, but and this is the.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
Same man the same as that means to why I
came out of the current boyfriend apartment and I had
bullet holes all in my car.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
This is dangerous.
Speaker 10 (13:46):
Bullet holes, acid, turn off your lights, Okay, I have
to ask.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
I feel like the sex was amazing.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Oh my god, I had to be for him, for him?
Did you did you ever have to call the cops?
Speaker 13 (13:59):
I did it. But the plot thick is though.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
It's not over.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
I come home again last night. I was like, oh
my god, what's on the door.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
The back door is open.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
I walked in. Everything in your apartment is completely cut up.
Speaker 8 (14:12):
What is session when my daughters weren't nothing the touch?
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Oh no, that's crazy.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
So he broke it.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
I did call the police, and what happened.
Speaker 8 (14:19):
I called the police to report it. Guess what happened
to me.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Before they let the leaves.
Speaker 8 (14:25):
I was arrested.
Speaker 14 (14:27):
Basically, I went to his apartment and cut his tires up.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Oh so you went over to his place and did
that to him too? No, no, no, he made a
false report, was shown out. Oh that is wild. How
did you manage to finally get him out of your life?
Speaker 13 (14:44):
He went to prison.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
I moved. Listen, you knew that was coming.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
He got a man now?
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Yeah? Yeah, is he coming home anytime?
Speaker 5 (14:58):
I wouldn't know.
Speaker 8 (14:58):
I don't live in the same place and that area.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
The Lord, I'll be scared I have to move. Yeah,
all right, well, thank you for sharing that with us.
That's wild, y'all have a great day. Hey, good morning,
Good morning. It's me and I Kem. We want to know.
Have you ever not been able to date because of
your crazy.
Speaker 13 (15:16):
Ex I have. I had this one incident where I
was dating this guy and we decided to break it off. Well,
so I decried it because he wasn't having.
Speaker 8 (15:27):
It, and he literally removed my mom's.
Speaker 13 (15:30):
Door, mom from her front door on her house and
called to tell her that I had company at home.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
What that's you?
Speaker 1 (15:40):
I know, that was so embarrassing because how do you
explain that?
Speaker 13 (15:44):
She was so and I was like, well, you know,
I don't even know what to say.
Speaker 8 (15:49):
At this point.
Speaker 13 (15:50):
I'm just not gonna date for a while because that
kind of shared me.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
Yeah, that would scare anybody. That's wild.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Have you ever looked this guy up on Facebook to
see what he's up to prison.
Speaker 13 (16:00):
Yeah, she's reached out to me, Wow a few years ago,
and he was just like, I just wondered if you
ever think about me?
Speaker 10 (16:10):
No, but also even if you did think about it, it
wouldn't be anything good. You just thinking about her missing
when you look at her dooring opy, remember that dud
who still doing ops?
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Well, thank you for callery, Yeah, thank you? All right?
What that was you guys calling in about your crazy
ex that made it so that you couldn't date anybody
new eight hundred and two nine fifty one fifty. You
can always leave a message for last word. And when
we come back, we have your yee team, and let's
talk about since we discussed Kim Kardashian and that's how
we got into this crazy X topic. H here's another
(16:43):
ex that she's had to deal with and she actually
served him with papers while he was streaming. Will tell
you about it. It's way sure.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
She's about to blow the lid off this spot. Let's
get it.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Oh, Angela's feeling that yee tea, Come and get the tea.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Yeah, it's way ye put Angela, yee, I came witges
here with me.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Let's get into some of this yet, all right? So
they have announced the new host after Molly Karen left
from ESPN First take, and the new hosts for the
network is Shay Cornett. And you know we did a
little research because she's already been working at ESPN. There's
been a multiple people who were trying out to fill
that role. She joined ESPN in twenty twenty. She's mostly
(17:23):
served as a college football host and an anchor on
Sports Center. Before that, she was in Chicago serving as
a Bears reporter and appearing on pre and postgame shows.
So that is Molly's replacement on ESPN on First Take all. Right,
now let's move into some other things. Ray J has
gotten served by Kim Kardashian and Chris Jenner. And this
(17:44):
was live on stream. By the way, get it served
live is crazy.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
This is why you don't need a document all your life.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Well, he was talking about this whole Rico situation, and
he was saying that Kim Kardashian and Chris Jenner are
going to, you know, get in trouble for Rico charges.
And ray J said, if you told me the Kardashians
were being charged for racketeering, I might believe it. Well,
now they are suing him for defamation. And here is
what it sounded like when he got served live on stream.
Speaker 12 (18:12):
I just want to let y'all know that this is
real bad.
Speaker 15 (18:14):
I'm not gonna speak on it because I have to
take legal action as well.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
This is beyond and humane.
Speaker 15 (18:19):
This is going into like someone I forgot that I'm
lying because.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
I've been lying so long about being good to where
you forgot you was bad.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
So another words, he's you know, he says he's been
claiming that he's been covering up things when it came
to his Yeah, and he had said before the Feds
are coming, there's nothing I can do about it. It's
worse than Diddy, That's what he was saying. What you know,
I think people also don't take it seriously because it's
ray J. So they always think that RAYJ is like stuff. Yeah,
(18:50):
just saying stuff. So I don't know. But now they've
served him, so.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
This is rich people.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Yes, they do. And now let's talk about Charlie Sheen.
And he recently did an interview with the Times of
London and he said that he was done hiding and
realized owning up to hooking up with men isn't such
a bad thing. That's what made him come out. He
said he's in the same league as icons like Richard
Pryor and Marlon Brando, who were both openly bisexual and
that's some pretty great company to be in. So he
(19:18):
said the one thing he'd never faced was what happens
once the truth is actually out there. So in that
Netflix documentary and memoir, he finally talked about that and
about sleeping with men, and he said it was liberating
at the time, and he was also deep in drug
addiction at the time. So that is that eaty. And
by the way, I just want to talk about Kevin
(19:39):
Federline has a book. As we're discussing like all these
different books that are coming out, and so Kevin Federline's book,
everybody's been talking about it. I mean, people are upset
that he wrote a book about Britney Spears. He talked
about according to his memoir, it's called You Thought You Knew,
he said that she actually he saw her do some
cocaine while she was still breastfeeding their sons. That's his allegation,
(20:02):
because I want to say that it's still an allegation.
He said he saw her to do a fat line
of coke off the table, and he also talked about.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
I believe them, you believe them.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
I mean, he also talked about the day they were
getting married and how she was on the phone with
her ex.
Speaker 15 (20:19):
Listen, she told me that she was on the phone
with Justine immediately, you know, was we don't have to
do this. I didn't care if we got married here
or now, and she told me no, I just wanted
to make sure that everything is done. I want to
make sure that I say my final piece.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
And I'm like, damn, you know on the night before
our wedding.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
That is crazy going to justin Timberlake. All right, well
that is your yet when we come back, we have
some of these under the radar stories that are pretty
major of sixty three million dollar donations to Morgan State University.
We'll talk about it. It's way up.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Take the news. News.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
This in the news that relates to you. These stories
are flying under the radar.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
All right as well, Buddy Angela, Yeah, I'm here with
Alkem Woods.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
What did it do.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Let's get into these under the radar stories. So philanthropists
Mackenzie Scott has gifted sixty three million dollars to Morgan
State University. Okay, that is a second donation she's given
them in less than five years. She's gifted them over
one hundred and three million dollars. In these five years.
Is that Jesus amazing? There's no restrictions, so they can
(21:24):
invest it in long its long term vision. They said
they'll use that money to further strengthen Morgan's endowment, enhance
support for student success, and advance initiatives that enhance Morgan's
role as an anchor institution in Baltimore. Okay, so that's amazing,
that is phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
She wants to donate give me a million. I'd be
dope for what for me to change my life?
Speaker 1 (21:47):
You know how many people at home saying it all? Right? Now?
Two universities have declined the White House offer for expanded
access to federal funding in exchange for some demands. Those
two universities that turned it down that we know of
so far are Brown University and Miteam. Now, what happened
was the White House offered money if you would give
(22:08):
in to some demands they wanted to. They declined an
offer to join a compact that would potentially give preferential
funding in exchange for a list of changes to school policy,
including no longer considering sex and ethnicity and admissions, and
capping international enrollment. They sent that letter to nine different
universities like Hey, we'll get you some more federal funding
(22:30):
if you just do these things. And so far Brown
said no, Mit said no. Now some of the other
universities have not commented. They said they're reviewing the compact,
or they haven't said anything publicly yet, but resists.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Well, it's good. I'm happy for the people who said no.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
All right, in Detroit, there's a new This is amazing.
They have a new multi modal transportation hub that's planned
at their Michigan Central station. They're going to connect the
city with Chicago, with Windsor and beyond. So they have
an agreement now to start early research and engineering for
the project. So now there will be new infrastructure for
(23:09):
a passenger real and intercity bus service. That's a big deal.
All right, Well, that is your under the radar. We
do have the Way Up mixed for you at the
top of the hour. Plus Sister Nancy is gonna be
joining us. B what a bum. Anyway, the Sister Nancy story,
the documentary is available. It's way up, just like the
(23:30):
talk like they and Jelala Jean like they Angela Jean Man.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
She's spilling it all this is yet.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Well, all right, his way Up with Angela yee A
Keem is on the phone doing an interview somewhere else.
So I'm a fly solo right now. But let's talk
about Young Miami versus Tyler. I didn't know this was
a thing, but Young Miami posted, this girl really ran
off of my song, and I don't know how to
feel about it. Mind you, I played this song for
(23:57):
this girl and she said, take Me to Chanell is
greater than put me in Chanelle. And then somebody told
her Miami, that song took you forever to drop. Young
Young Miami said, don't matter, it's my MF song, and
somebody said, p s A, it is Tyler. She has
a new song called Chanell. The chorus has put me
(24:18):
in Chanelle, put me in Chanelle. So here is Young
Miami's take me to Chanelle.
Speaker 14 (24:28):
Chanel?
Speaker 1 (24:30):
All right? Now here is Tyla's put me in Chanelle.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
You love me, I say, love me?
Speaker 1 (24:43):
What do you think? Are they alike?
Speaker 3 (24:45):
I think the only thing similar is that they're both
talking about Chanel, and.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
I guess Young Miami saying she played that song for Tyler.
I don't know. I feel like they both can coexist.
I haven't heard the phone because.
Speaker 10 (24:56):
The beat's not the same the words I mean, I
guess it's like they a little bit.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
I guess if.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
She take me should now the man should do a
remix together?
Speaker 3 (25:05):
They should.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Yeah, now there you go. Solve all those problems. Take
me to Chanelle and put me in Chanelle, period. Because look,
al Pacino and Rapadennio just did a campaign together celebrating
fifty years of friendship for Montclair. The campaign is called
Warmer Together, and it talks about their fifty year friendship
as well as Montclair's seventy year legacy. They've never teamed
(25:27):
up as brand faces until now, even though they've been
in so many movies together. I think we always think
Rapadennario al Patino, right, So shout out to them for that.
I thought it was amazing to get the two of
them in this campaign.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
That is great, all right now.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
NBA young boy got the key to the City of
Atlanta in the middle of his concerts, and this was
from State Representative Angle Willis, Fulton County Commissioner Marvin Arrington,
and Fulton County Probate Judge Kenya Johnson. Here's how it sounded.
Speaker 9 (25:58):
You see, I appreciate your everything.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
So you know, people had a lot to say about it,
and you know he was definitely on that. But listen,
everybody been going to these Young Boy concerts. When I
tell you, when he was in Brooklyn, everybody was outside
for him, so you know, they also said he's helping
lower gun violence. That was That's what city officials were
(26:28):
honoring him for being able to do. Nicki Minaj in
the meantime, was on Spaces and she had some things
to say about you.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Was positive things.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Yes, listen, I love Young Boy.
Speaker 7 (26:42):
Actually Young Boy messaged me like recently too, so I
wish I would have been able to come out too.
Speaker 16 (26:47):
And like you know what I'm saying, Sean love. I
know he's doing his thing and he's always like so
so freaking real and sweet and you know his authentic solf.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Okay, we know different sides of Young Boy, and that
is your Yet when we come back, we have asked
ye eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty. You
know me and I Keim are here to help you out.
So any question you have, we got to. That's eight
hundred two nine two fifty one fifty. Ask yee.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Is next with it's relationship or career advice? Angela's dropping facts.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
This is ask what's up?
Speaker 2 (27:21):
His way up?
Speaker 1 (27:21):
But Angela, yee, I'm here with my guy. I came
with Hey, guys, are you ready for it? We need
to drop for you. Are you ready for this?
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Ask you?
Speaker 1 (27:28):
We have Jessica on the line. What's up? Jessica? Boo?
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Hi?
Speaker 17 (27:32):
So me and my man we want to move in together.
And I'm an animal lover. I have a dog, hit bull,
name is Loki.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
I love him low key okay.
Speaker 17 (27:43):
But he hates animals and he doesn't want to move
in with me because of the dog. And I don't
want to get rid of this dog obviously.
Speaker 14 (27:53):
How long did you'll think I should How.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Long have you been together?
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Three years?
Speaker 3 (27:56):
How long have you have a dog?
Speaker 17 (27:57):
One year? He's a puppy?
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Time soon?
Speaker 3 (28:02):
Oh yeah, you gotta let you gotta let go of
this man.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
What does he do when he comes over your house? Though? Like,
and you have this dog, I.
Speaker 8 (28:10):
Lock them away.
Speaker 17 (28:11):
There's a gate that we have in the house, and
I keep them separated. But we obviously can't do that
if we live together.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
What's his animosity towards dogs?
Speaker 17 (28:21):
He had something that happened and when he was younger,
were a dog put his hands and I understand the issue,
but I on my own also.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
It's a puppy.
Speaker 10 (28:32):
Let it go, go to therapy, get some counsel, and
those dogs exist.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
There's a lot of people I know. As a matter
of fact, my business partner hated dogs. He got married, Yeah,
and they have a dog, and now he like loves
the dog.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
Yeah. I think y'all should compromise.
Speaker 10 (28:47):
He should come over sometimes with the dog unlocked, or
take the dog and like a doggy date type thing,
like maybe the doggy dates.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
Tell me to write the dog off on your taxes,
give them time to bomb with the dog.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
Piple pumps our door.
Speaker 10 (29:00):
If if he hates a pip puppy, then girl, let
him go, because that means he's the devil.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
I think you have to. I think you have to
leave it up to him. Tell him the dog is
important to you. You love your dog, and I would
love for you to be here. But if you can't
deal with the dog, I can't really do anything about it.
If you can't come to that type of compromise. If
you love me, my dog comes with it. That's like
Kevin a child.
Speaker 14 (29:23):
Yeah, okay, I'll try it.
Speaker 8 (29:25):
I'll give it a go.
Speaker 17 (29:26):
It's definitely been a couple of arguments.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
So let's see how let's see how much he loves you.
Speaker 8 (29:32):
We'll see for me.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Yeah, good luck, bye baby, Thank you. We're not throwing
the dog away though, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Of course not. It's a puppy. Also, row up, dude,
you're scared of a puppy.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
We've all been been by a dog at some point. Yeah,
well that was ask ye eight hundred and two, nine
fifty one fifty. If you couldn't get through, you can
always leave a message for ask you that way. And
when we come back, Sis, then Nancy is joining us.
You know her as the singer the creator of Bomb Bomb,
What Up Bomb, one of the biggest reggae songs of
(30:06):
all time, the most sampled for sure. And when we
come back, we'll be talking to her about her documentary
that you can see in some places. It'll be streaming
here soon. It's way up, yeah, y'all, more way up
with now? What's up? Is way up with angela ye?
(30:26):
And what an honor today to have sister Nancy here
with us.
Speaker 16 (30:30):
First, greets, thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Thank you for coming. It's a blessing to have you.
Thank you very much before called bomb Bomb the best
dance hall song ever. But there's a documentary out called
bomb Bomb The Story of Sistant Nancy, and we really
got to get a lot more insight into everything that
you've done and how you got to where you are today.
You know, with this Sistant Nancy story, I remember reading
and reporting on because we never knew like the backstory
(30:56):
of what happened with the song. But I remember seeing
the report and actually putting it on the radio talking
about the fact that you hadn't been getting money from
the song. It didn't even realize how much it had
been sampled, not at all. Yeah, until later, until I
came here.
Speaker 16 (31:10):
And in those times, like I think nineteen ninety eight,
I really see how powerful song is.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Your daughter actually was watching Belly and so and solids
that song and Belly is like, I think that song
is the one song that's the representative of the whole
movie old movie. Yeah, I know, and watch you Do
and it's the most sample song, yeah and read dance
hall period.
Speaker 16 (31:34):
Yes it is.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Do you know how many times it's been sampled?
Speaker 16 (31:36):
You know, I subcontent and it only gets better because
people use it every day. Some people I do say yes,
and some people are saying no because I can't do
it on my own. It's not it does not belong
holdly to me because you know, you have mister Riley
and mister Riley Stiff. You know they have their publishing
and everything. So I can't tell a person.
Speaker 12 (31:53):
To use it.
Speaker 16 (31:54):
I have to consult that at a party to give
them authorization.
Speaker 12 (31:58):
But most people they they get it.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Right now, I'm talking to Assistant Nancy. We're talking about
her documentary Bam Bam, the Assistant Nancy Story and all
of the drama that she went through. It took over
thirty years for her to get any type of royalties
or compensation from the song. But what is great is
that people have been actually working with you, like Janelle Monnet. Yes,
jay Z, Yes, I think that was a fascinating story.
(32:20):
So you were jay Z traveled to Jamaica.
Speaker 16 (32:22):
That's the best sumpl because it really took me with him,
and I think that was writing to do. He didn't
go behind my back and at least I'm.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
A part of it, right And then coming to work
at a bank in New Jersey at that time, and
I see in the documentary. I know people are gonna
watch this and see it for themselves. But you definitely
were taking off and on weekends working still, and so
I like every day they kind of knew who you were.
Speaker 16 (32:46):
Didn't know because I used to sell my CDs there,
because I got a few Jamaicans worked there, and then
a few spaniships.
Speaker 18 (32:53):
They probably loved that. They probably like, you know, we
worked with yes, they do Clancy, while we work with Cistlanta.
But my boss, she she never knows. Until one day
she come and she said, come here, Nancy. She said,
where you went last week?
Speaker 12 (33:06):
I said nothing. That Mike Weave dropped on.
Speaker 16 (33:08):
My foot, so I had the foot band up and everything.
Speaker 12 (33:11):
There's not wrong on the foot. She said, there's nothing
wrong with your foot. I saw you. I saw you
on that compete Bad.
Speaker 16 (33:17):
Bad Bamm in Israel. I saw you in Teliviv every
week and tell me a different life. I'm gonna say, okay, Lydia,
it's me. What do you want me to do? You know?
And then but I stopped lying to her. I say,
you know what, I better just let gonna leave, you know,
before them fire me.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Right, she probably want to fire, you know, because it feels.
Speaker 16 (33:34):
Yeah, she won't mention you don't like me.
Speaker 12 (33:36):
No, she don't like me.
Speaker 16 (33:38):
She should have fired me, should fire me sooner or later,
because I am one of the persons who stand up
and talk to her. I said, don't talk to me
like that. I could not be your daughter, your child.
I'm a grown woman, all right.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
Sister Nancy is here. Her documentary Bam Bam is circulating
around its at music festivals. It's in Canada. It'll be
streaming soon. But we're talking about everything that she's been
through with that song and with getting her just credit.
All right, we got more when we come back. It's
way up.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
More. Now what's up?
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Its way up with angela ye, and we have sister
Nancy here. You know her from the song bomb Bomb,
and you also know that she's been fighting to make
sure that she got her just due from that song.
It took over thirty years and this is literally the
most sampled song in reggae ever. So when you did leave,
you already were in the process of getting the money
that she was supposed to get.
Speaker 16 (34:29):
Oh yeah, okay, I started in money from that Revolt commercial. Right,
that's twenty fourteen.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
It feels like your daughter was also very on it. Like,
come on, Mama, we gotta always.
Speaker 16 (34:38):
Be watching stuff, you know, because she she knows who
I am and everything. And you know, I wasn't getting anything,
and she said, Mommy, come on, you gotta do something.
Speaker 12 (34:46):
I'm gonna say, yeah, you're you're right.
Speaker 16 (34:49):
There's all these people making all these money off and this,
and that's that's my voice.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
That's me.
Speaker 16 (34:54):
And you know, we just get some advice from attorney
and one of them said, take it ton, say so
this is a lot, this is too much, this is
too much inside you should you should hold the whole
thing after so many years. I tell him I don't
want the whole thing. I just want what is right
for mine.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
There was a point though, after Belly where you were
supposed to meet up. I think it was but Wednesday
and Riley I waited for twelve hours and he didn't.
Speaker 16 (35:18):
I didn't show up, and it hurt me because you know,
he promised me that he would be there and it
didn't come.
Speaker 12 (35:24):
But you know, it's okay, it's already done.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
That's a long time. How long did it take you
to finally get some type of resolution from when you
first twenty fourteen?
Speaker 16 (35:33):
When I saw the rebook commercial. I think it was
February of twenty fourteen, and I started getting confensation in April.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
How did you feel when that happened? What I want
to know, like, what was where were you? What was there?
Speaker 2 (35:45):
What? Man?
Speaker 1 (35:45):
I was on the computer by everybody or on the computer.
Speaker 16 (35:49):
And I see, you know, I have a zero balanced
to think about zero seven hundred and fifty balance. I
hold the bank seven hundred and fifty dollars and I
see this, I said, what the hell I should know?
Speaker 12 (36:00):
But it finished that same day.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
That's amazing.
Speaker 12 (36:03):
Yeah, and I could get to do everything. I say.
Speaker 16 (36:05):
You know what, It's a thing that as long as
I'm alive, I can collect it. It's not gonna get worse.
It has to get better because people use Bam Bam.
It's just me to make sure that even after my time,
my daughter, because I only have one child, my daughters
can still live from it the same, just the same.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
Right now I'm talking to assist Nancy. We're talking about
her documentary Bam Bam, The Assistant Nancy Story. And you're
also still recording music. I want to make sure that
people know that because you have new music. That's my
new album right here I'm getting. I think that's perfect time. Yes,
it is, because you have this documentary and I know
people are going to be yes back and being like okay,
let's you know, let's dig some more inside everything. Do
(36:45):
we know when the documentary is going to be available
on streaming services.
Speaker 16 (36:49):
But it's available now. It's shown in different places. Now,
it's in Trinidad, they're trying to get it in Jamaica,
it's in Ghana.
Speaker 12 (36:57):
It's come here a couple of times.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Yeah, it was like gone and then yacause.
Speaker 12 (37:00):
The chosen New Jersey three times.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
Because I'm in it and people always you. I just
