But don't be afraid. That's why we give you weekend
Fantasy update. All right, welcome back our number three. We
(01:06):
get Fantasy off Day. Juliana, Mike Blue with me, Fantasy
Prince Shawn Angle Sean. You celebrated a birthday this week, Buddy,
Happy belated birthday, Buddy. Thank you, Joe, thank you so much.
I appreciate it. So you had a big luncheon dinner
(01:28):
over at Benny Hannah for the UH. I don't know,
I guess it's a nation wide chain. We my family,
we UH go to Benny Hannah a lot for a
lot of family occasions. They're Japanese fair. They cook in
front of you, right, did you do that? Oh yeah,
of course you get yourself some cooking done right in
front of you with a little bit of flair, and
(01:49):
you get to eat basically eat the show that you
see right after. It's a win win in my absolutely.
I also, uh like the the hot Soak. I don't
know if you've ever tried it, but it's basically rice
wine and uh, the first ship kind of takes your
breath away a little bit, but other than that, it's
(02:11):
great stuff. So glad to see that you and the
rest of the Royal family had a great day this
week over at Benny Hanna. And again, happy belated birthday
to you and thanks for all you do with the
network and keeping on show flying straight there you go.
Very welcome and uh that's my I'm still working on
(02:39):
it alright, alright, you got some time to work on it.
So so what do we have today? Uh? One, two, three, four,
five games NFL preseason games. Today we have the Cults
three point favorite over the Browns. Of course, Cults in
the news whole bunch this week guarding uh Andrew Luck
(03:02):
high ankle situation. I think we're gonna find out within
the next week or so about lux availability for the
start of Week one, of course, Uh, Patriots one point
favorite over the Titans. We spoke about the Patriots and
Josh Gordon joining the the the Fray Cowboys George Kurtz's
(03:25):
favorite team. Three point favorite over the Rams. Uh Chiefs
two and a half over the Steelers, Texans four and
a half point favorite over the Detroit Lions this Saturday.
Uh So, UH got some games tonight, Mike, Yeah, we do.
I got my Steelers tonight, so I get to watch
(03:46):
them a little bit. See. You know, there has there
had been a trend in years past where teams pulled
out all the stops in Week two and then rested
people in Week three. I did see the Patriots do it.
I remember the Packers do it um and it leads
(04:07):
me to sort of the one thing I wanted to
talk about because this ended up impacting Avery Williamson in
a in a significant way. Now, I'm not suggesting it's
the same thing as putting your starting quarterback out there,
but Avery Williamson of the Jets was playing deep into
(04:29):
the first half against the Falcons the other night in
this situation where everybody thought he sort of should have
been out of the game, or it might have even
been later in the game. I actually thought it was
the second half, but I read something today that it
was the second quarter. But the reality is, Avery Williamson
was in the game in a situation where just about
(04:50):
everybody thought he should have been out of it, and
he tours a c L. So now that Jets are
down the middle linebacker to start this season. Obviously they
drafted they signed C. J. Mosley in the office season,
But to have Avery Williamson out there at a time
where he probably shouldn't have been and the starters should
have been pulled, I think it is the whole reason
(05:10):
we get concerned and worry. I wonder if these preseason
games are even worth it. It's hard to go into
an NFL season without playing any games, So I don't
know what the solution is. Maybe it's cutting down the
preseason games, but Joe, honestly, the guys play so little.
They're not playing two full games worth of preseason games anyway.
So how are we just gonna do live practices and
(05:33):
then just go turn the switch on in week one,
or do they play one full preseason game. I don't
really know the best way to go about it. Honestly,
I wouldn't have my starters in there at all. Now
you have to have the starters play a little bit
only because you don't have a hundred and fifty guys
in camp. You have ninety. So are you gonna just
play the forty guys that you're gonna cut. There's gonna
(05:55):
be some guys out there. Some starters had to get
some action otherwise, as you won't have any real sense
of the players you're using, whether or not things are
working in games. But I don't know. You could argue
it a few different ways, but I just feel bad
that Avery Williamson is out for the year now. On
a play where it was a friendly fire hit in
(06:16):
the end zone. By the way, on a play Matt
Ryan threw back to back toucho touchdown passes against Jesse
the other night, and they dropped both. Justin Hardy had
an easy one in his hands that was dropped. I
actually had a little bit of a wager on the
Falcons the other night. I thought they were gonna because
Maddie Ice was playing. I thought they were gonna play better,
just didn't end up happening. They dropped a couple of
(06:38):
touchdown passes on him, and then Matt Sims through a
late pick six to make it final. But guys like
Aby Williamson getting hurt. I I just thought he was
in egregiously late. The announcers were talking about it at
the time, and they didn't even know he had torn
his a c L. He just sort of limped off
the field and they were talking about it, but he
was upset at the time. I think he probably knew
(06:59):
something was bad but serious. That's it. And another big
injury that we didn't get a chance to talk about.
Derwin James. Derwin James, the breakout rookie safety from the
Chargers last year. Some considered to be the best value
in the whole first round. Last year, he dropped because
he had some injuries at Florida State and his his
final year there. He's out in definitely, and Anthony Lynn's
(07:23):
quotes saying like I hope we get him back for
the twenty nineteen season don't bode well. Stress fracture in
his foot out in definitely. You have to figure that's
probably a couple of months absolutely, Yeah, another injury. What
about Cardinals quarterback Robert Alford broken leg and that Patrick
Peterson what he has. I think a six game suspension
(07:45):
is at six he does, So we're just talking about
the Cardinals. So, uh, some some pretty serious injuries this
past week. Yeah. Yeah, Um. Josh McCown, by lay of ESPN,
ended his retirement. He's now Josh McCown of the Philadelphia Eagles. Uh,
(08:06):
he joins Cowboys tight end as football players turned esp
analysts turned football players. So that's another one, another guy
to add back to the mix. I and I brought
it up on the tails of that it's because of
an injury that they had to Nate Sutfeld. Uh, Cody
Kessler's in the concussion protocol and Clayton Thorson is their
(08:27):
other quarterbacks. So I heard Josh McCown early on in
his ESPN stuff. I thought he was bringing some good
stuff to the table. But I'm sure he had a
discussion with the with ESPN, Like, look, if this something
comes up, I might jump at it. And I can
never blame the player for going back in the scenario.
(08:48):
I think the Witten thing is odd only because he
got a full year to sort of practice at the
new job. And now he's back on the field, and
I don't think he's gonna add much McCown. You know
he's gonna add it, probably a bigger paycheck. I'm sure
he was getting paid handsomely at ESPN, but I don't
(09:08):
think he'll get the deal that he could potentially get
with the Eagles. Um. And you know what if Carson
Wentz got hurt and Nate Sudfeld injury lingers as a
backup to pick up for two or three games, would
you rather have Josh McCown in there or dating Nate Sudfeld. Uh,
(09:31):
it's not a great choice. I'm asking it exactly. Yeah,
that's yeah, that's my that's my My silence is at
the end, McCown, I don't know what would you do?
I want the veteran and seid Field has been around
for a couple of years, but I want the veteran
that's been been in games. So UM interesting that he's
in there. But the Derwin James thinking, let's go back
(09:52):
to that injury because it's probably the most impactful injury,
uh that we saw this week thus far. The Chargers
are starting I'll tell you what, man a month ago,
I was in on the Chargers. I thought they were
the one of the best bets on the board to
win the division, along with the Falcons. Uh there the
plus one seventy. I want to see what they are
(10:13):
right now. In fact, I'll check while we're talking. I'm
gonna find divisional odds. So right now the Charges plus
one seventy. They've been pretty consistently around there. I thought
the Chargers are the best bet on board, and the
Falcons are at plus three twenty. That's dropped a little bit.
I think it was at one time plus three fifty
plus three seventy. I think those two teams, where are
(10:35):
you getting plus money? Are interesting bets to win their division.
But the Chargers are starting to get a little bit
of a stink on them that you don't want. They're
starting running back is holding out, there's no indication that
will come back anytime soon. They're starting safety who was
a breakout player last year's hurt um At. I just
(11:00):
don't know is that's not a ton of issues, obviously,
but those are significant issues. A standout defensive player and
you're starting running back are out not Keenan Allen has
some kind of an actle issue, and I know it
doesn't seem like it's a serious one exactly. Yeah, always,
And also I feel he's a slow healer as well,
(11:21):
So you throw that Williams there. Other receiver is a
guy that gainst bang up a lot too. Is the
reason I did. I think Mike Williams is a isn't
It could be an awesome wide receiver in the NFL.
He was great at Clemson, but he was hurt a
lot of Clemson and a freak neck injury running into
a goal post in the back of an end zone
one time, and he had other injuries too. Since he's
been in the NFL, he hasn't been a model of health.
(11:43):
So I just never liked his pairing with Keenan Allen
simply because of the health component that for both of them. Yep,
you feel like you're wishing or hoping that both guys
can be healthy at the same time. And that's a
difficult situation being with the window closing for Philip Rivers.
I felt great about this team a month ago and
(12:04):
it's just starting to cool off a little bit. And
I don't know, I think they're the most talented team
top to bottom, but without Derwin James. That isn't necessarily
the case any without Melvin Gordon. Derwin James said, isn't
the case, right, You're not the most talented top to
bottom if they if I lose those two guys, mm
hmm uh, there's just take a look at a little
(12:26):
optimism hunter Henry's back. I don't know that is optimistic. Yes, yeah,
so you're right, I mean, you know, uh, and you're right.
The window was closing on Philip Rivers, and I was
with you that, you know, maybe like a month ago,
I thought that they maybe could challenge for it's not
closing this year. I'm just talking about long term. It's
(12:49):
why I didn't like the Mike Williams pick. I'm not
Philip Rivers is starting two hundred consecutive games like the guys.
He's not slowed down. He had one of his best
season statistically ever last year. So I think they have
a real shot to compete and still in this division.
But I'm just starting to get worried. You start to
get worried about the teams that have these things happen
(13:11):
to them, pile up and these aren't little things. These
are two major, significant things. Yes, they can survive for
a while without Melvin Gordon. But what if he misses
the nine games or ten games and then comes back,
How well is he going to be received? Is it
going to upset the locker room? Does he even really
want to be out there? Or is he just going
(13:31):
to go through the motions for this team because they
didn't pay him. It's just gonna be a really hard
scenario for me to envision it being a smooth transition
for him coming back if he sits out ten games. Yeah,
you wonder what the feeling is in that locker room.
Like with Levian Bell last season, Uh, the offensive lineman
(13:52):
kinda felt slighted when when Bell was complaining about how
much money was making because they're like, hey, we made you,
and look what we're not making. You know, we're making
nothing here. So you gotta wonder what side the locker
room is taking in this in this negotiation. Yeah, yeah,
what what cinched it for me? Last year? And this
(14:14):
happened really late in the process. I remember, well, I
was saying, since the other night on his podcast, I
actually ended up on this podcast with Corey Parson and
Jim Day, both of them you've heard here in the
past him day regularly doing fantasy football frenzy. But I
do not feel the same way about Zeke's holdout that
I felt about Levy on Bell's hold out a year ago.
(14:36):
I was drafting James Conner in every league. Proof is
in the pudding. I drafted him everywhere and telling people
that they need to consider James Conner, not just if
you're drafting Levy on Bell, but period. And I don't
feel like you, and I feel like Zeke will be
(14:57):
back in camp, and I didn't think Levin. I thought
Levia Bell is going to be out for some period
of time. I didn't know he'd hold out a whole year,
but I thought he was going to go up to
that deadline where I expect Melvin Gordon to be this year.
So you have two situations is here with Zeke and
Melvin Gordon. I think Melvin Gordon could hold out right
up to week ten because I don't think the Chargers
are going to budge and I think is going to
(15:18):
be back in as soon as they can get him in.
The difficult part with Zeke is that the other two
players on their team, Cooper and Prescott, are the ones
whose deals are up at the end of this year.
Zeke's got two more, so I think they want to
get the other ones done first, but they might just
try to do what whichever once they can. And I
(15:40):
think they know Zeke is the most important of the
three to this particular right. And just you know, two
or three weeks ago, conventional wisdom had Zeke being there
for week one. Now, I don't know, it wouldn't surprise me.
Like I said a few minutes ago, if he misses
a game or two, it wouldn't shock me. I don't
(16:02):
I don't know. I don't know about you. I don't
know if you've kind of turned That's what I think.
I think it's a gamer too. I think it's a
game or two, But I don't know that that materially impacts.
Look Levan Bell, forget last year, the year before he
was suspended a couple of games that did not materially
impact his trap status. He was still going in the
(16:23):
top three picks even though he was suspended a couple
of games, because people knew that that the ten or
eleven games he was going to deliver in the regular
season for Fantasy and in the Fantasy playoffs was well
worth not having for the first couple, and I think
you have to take the same tact for Zeke. Now
it isn't known if it's just going to be one
(16:44):
or two games, so there's a little less clarity. So
many people wait as close to the start of the
season as possible to have their yet their home league's straps,
right at least I do. So Let's say, if you
know you're a couple of days away from the one
of the season, do you think do you think that
Zeke drops from an overall four a DP to do?
(17:06):
Maybe you get him in the second round? Is that too?
Second round is probably a little bit too much, But
I think he does drop, but he wouldn't drop for me.
Like I said, I'm picking number four in that draft.
In a couple of weeks, I'll take Zeke if he's there,
even if he's not signing September. Yes, but a lot
(17:27):
will it's it's it's probably unfair for me to say
it this w and I think we'll have more information
in the next two weeks than I have right now,
so i'll get it probably a better sense if he's
gonna be a longer term But if I get the
sense that it's getting close. I won't hesitate if it'll
really be Zeke or Hopkins for me. David Johnson consideration,
but probably not. All right, we'll come back. We're gonna
(17:49):
talk about this jay Z partnership of the NFL, how
it's related to Colin Kaepernick and chose thoughts on it.
Eric Eric Reid was voiceterous about it. We'll come right
back from the NFL to the NBA. Daily Rohodo dot

Eligibility restrictions apply and please see website for details. So
a couple more topics to go. Uh, this one not
an easy topic, Joe, but it's surrounding jay Z's new
partnership of the NFL. The partnership is intended to help
(19:33):
with entertainment and social justice, and there was an initial
thought that this would be good for the league, that
somebody with perhaps uh similar social views, views that are
(19:54):
similar to that of the players regarding social justice, regarding
social views in general, would be a bridge between what
is seen as too vastly different camp largely older white ownership,
and clearly a significant portion of the playing community in
(20:14):
the player community in the NFL is African Americans have
vastly different backgrounds and those owners. So this is seen
as maybe a move to bridge the gap. But there's
two different ways to go on this, and the first
one is the blowback that he's now being he's receiving. Carolina.
Carolina Panthers safety Eric Read on Friday blasted rapper Jay
(20:36):
Z for his suggesting quote, we've moved past kneeling, and
that's really where this story comes from. Jay Z stated
that we've moved past kneeling as a way to protest.
He sort of wants to move past that and get
on with actually putting programs in place that can help
the community and maybe get the NFL involved with the
(20:57):
community in a more significant way than just throwing money
at it. But Eric Reid didn't like that characterization. He
feels like he's just taking money so that the NFL
doesn't have to recognize that. Frankly, there's still a blackball
and Colin Kaepernick, there's no other way to phrase it.
They he's been paid the The amount has been debated,
but considered to be less than ten million dollars that
(21:17):
was paid to both Colin Kaepernick and Eric Read as
a function of them being ostracized from the NFL. Eric
Creed is obviously now received a new contract with the Panthers,
but Kaepernick still on the sidelines. We just talked about
Josh McCown a minute ago coming back off the sidelines.
He's far less removed from the NFL time wise, but
Kaepernick's a younger player, some might argue more talented. So
(21:41):
I don't know which way you want to go with this,
but I wanted to set it up to see if
you have a thought process whether you agreed that jay
Z is doing the right thing, or do you see
this as a way for the NFL to just put
Kaepernick on the back burners so people stop talking about it.
I think it's a way that, uh, jay Z's bank
(22:01):
account could go up. Yeah, I mean, now I'm seeing
a report from TMZ that he, uh, he's gonna acquire
a significant ownership interest in an NFL team. So you know, yeah,
so last year and he's happening about he said no
to the NFL when it came to you know, halftime
(22:23):
shows and whatnot. Now, all of a sudden, you know,
he's basically in bed with the NFL. So I understand
Reid being upset with jay Z on the other side
of the equation. You know, jay Z, you know, has
a real understanding I guess of the black community, and
(22:43):
maybe he could help to bridge the gap between the
NFL and and and the and the black community. You know,
it's it's a real touchy subject to require, honest, but
it'll be interesting to see. Look, in my opinion, when
it come the Colin Kaepernick, I think that NFL owners
are so petty that if they thought that could win
(23:05):
a Super Bowl with Kaepernick on the center, I think
he would have had a job already. It doesn't help that,
you know, he comes with with that extra baggage. But ahead,
I'm sorry, God, no, no, no, I I think everything
you said is right and I'm not trying to put
you on the spot. And what is a difficult topic,
but I thought it's interesting to talk about from a
few different angles. One why not I think you're right.
(23:27):
I think you're right in that if an NFL owner
was totally convinced that Kaepernick was gonna come onto their
team and significantly helped them increasing amount of wins and
the chance to win a Super Bowl, I think he
would be on a roster. But initially, because it was
such a divisive protest, the NFL owners knew that they
(23:50):
were gonna lose sponsors and they were gonna be there
was going to be a cloud over the team. I
think it was a money move all the way. Do
I think there are NFL owners that are complicit in
furthering institutional racism. I think there's some out I think
there's some more open minded owners as well, But it
(24:12):
comes down to green every time, and they're not going
to have sponsorss leave. Should they stand up for it,
for it a little bit more, for social justice more? Yeah?
I think there are many scenarios that doesn't have to
be by way of signing Colin kapepering it No, but
three years hence, I think we y'all know that Colin
(24:34):
Kaepernick has been, has been, and continues to be more
talented than some of the quarterbacks currently on NFL rosters.
I don't. I don't think that's ever been a debate.
You can Hamrick Kaepernick's career all you want statistically, but
for him not to have been on a team, there
are obviously outside reasons, and the NFL is admitted to it.
(24:55):
What Eric read is really mad about is that Jay
Z said that they're moving past feeling as if they're
past that problem. Eric Reid still continues to kneel in
protests of oppression and social justice, which I respect is
right to do. It doesn't mean that I would do it.
It doesn't mean that you have to like it. I've
always said this about this issue, Joe. I can't sit
(25:17):
here and say that I'm in support of somebody expressing
their rights to do that and then be mad at
or and then be a vehement disagreement with a person
that doesn't agree with it. It flies in the face
of me saying that I support his right to do it,
because if you if you disagree and you don't like it,
then you obviously have the ability to express your distaste
(25:38):
for it or worse, hatred of it whatever. Uh So
I support the right to do it in that regard. Now,
the NFL is a private institution. They could have said
from the very beginning, we don't want anybody doing this,
But again you get into the collective bargaining agreement and
everything else. The NBA, which is obviously a much more
forward social justice and social issues uh thinking league compared
(26:07):
to any of the other leagues, they don't allow their
players to do that, and that's because it's collectively bargained
and they don't want the product to be distracted by
protests of any kind. They dealt with something in the
nineties which really allowed that to be put into place,
and I think the NFL and the next c b
A will work it out with the NFL p A.
But nonetheless, so you have that. Yeah, I was gonna say,
(26:33):
in our country, you obviously have the right to protest.
My My issue is that, you know, when I watch
a game on Sunday, I want to try to forget
all the stuff that's going on on CNN and Fox
and uh so. But then again, like I said, our
country was built on the premise that you're allowed to
speak your mind. And then on the other hand, like
(26:53):
you said, the NFL is a private institution. When you
when you do that when you wear a team's uniform him,
in my opinion, uh a team should have the right
to say no, I don't want you doing that when
you're when you're wearing my my uniforms. Like when I
my my day job. You know, what I do after
(27:14):
my day job is my business. But if I do
it while representing the organization that I'm working for, then
then there's a little a little bit of an issue
there in my opinion, Yeah, yeah, you know, I don't
want to blow the whole Obviously this story is related
to Colin Kaepernick in a significant way, but I don't
want to go back into the whole debate. We don't
(27:36):
have to. But I thought it was an interesting story.
And and part two of that story is about what
you're saying. Jay Z's significant ownership interest in a team.
He's obviously going to be involved in picking the entertainment
for a lot of the major events that you're all
halftime everything else. Um, I don't think it's necessarily be
in the super Bowl halftime show. Do you think he's
(27:56):
already been there? She did it in San Francisco. I'm
sure she'll be involved. She'll be involved in it again
in some way. And I think if it was just
hip hop acts, that's not necessarily what everybody's looking for.
But I think they'll be they'll be smarter about it, um,
because you know, the funny thing is like hip hop
is is far more popular now than it was twenty
(28:18):
years ago and thirty years ago, and many of the
hip hop acts are some of the biggest acts in
the country. Greek but mm hmm um, the younger audience
that is fully immersed in hip hop culture and listening
to hip hop artists isn't necessarily watching the super Bowl,
(28:38):
so that has to be taken into an account. The
super Bowl audience exkews a little bit older, right. First
of all, sports in general e skews a little bit older.
But hip hip hop and the super Bowl can cross over.
But having it be exclusively hip hop acts would miss
part of the audience because the super Bowl, you know,
a hundred million people in the US alone or are
(29:00):
watching it, so that audience is going to skew older. Right.
You're gonna have grandfathers and grandmothers and and generations our
age and older watching it. So it can't just be
exclusively the hottest hip out. You have these super Bowl parties.
You have these Super Bowl parties. Let's take the thirty
people there. How many people are actually watching the game,
you know four? You know, when you you start to
(29:23):
grab these groups. My my wife is there for the
for the halftime show. That's why my wife watches. She's
in she doesn't care about football. She's in for she's
sick of football because of what I do for a living,
you know, she she doesn't want to deal with it.
So I've always tried to get her that's right, that's right,
and I give her credit for it, and uh, you know,
(29:46):
we I try. I have fun with it. She understands
what I have to watch, and I have to I
have to watch in a different way than some other
people watch. But anyway, um so, Jason, you mentioned super
Bowl parties, like even at those super Bowl we excuse me.
The super Bowl week and all the other events of
(30:06):
the NFL has put on puts on. I'm sure jay
Z will have a hand in that as well. But
the ownership piece it was interesting as well because, as
mentioned in this article on Pro Football Talk and that
is written up by Mike Florio himself, the way in
which Jimmy has them the owner of the Browns and
David Tepper the owner of the now Panthers, the way
(30:29):
they got into ownership of their teams was by being
a minority owner first minority shareholder, both with the Steelers, ironically,
but they then were able to take the next step
up to being a majority owner. And that's the thought process.
Possibly for jay Z, he could he could gain a
share of a team somewhere at some point. It could
(30:53):
be minor and then if you could grow. But he
his net worth is about a billion dollars, which is
less than some of the owners in the league, but
it could put him in a position to where if
he grabs the share of the team, it helps his
overall valuation. Then he can grab a majority share of
the team. You know, we saw obviously David Tepper and
(31:15):
Jimmy Hassem have really significant net worths I believe far
more than a billion and in both cases, but um,
we're not talking about pocket change for jay Z either.
You know, he has the ability to become a uh
minority owner of the team as far as shares your concern.
And I think what is interesting about that? And I
(31:37):
think in watching some members of the hip hop community,
and I've been a hip hop fan for a lot
of my life, um dating back to growing up in
New York City and listening to that type of music,
And I think what you've seen the influence of a
lot of these older hip hop artists. And I don't
(31:58):
mean to call jay Z older, he's probably younger and
I am and Sean Puff, Daddy Combs and um and others.
Is there gravitating towards business not just as music business
right clothing lines and jay Z starting an agency and
(32:19):
jay Z running def Jam Records and now talking about
owning an NFL team. I think that's the way in
which they can be really impactful in the community and
create larger influences that are not just about music. UM.
I understand Eric read pushing back on jay Z in
(32:41):
some ways, but I think in order to exact real change,
the NFL has to stop looking so white on the
ownership level. I think that would be the most impactful thing.
And if somebody like jay Z could be the majority
owner of a team, you know, you have shot Khan
and Jacksonville, but there isn't really there isn't any black
owner ship. Certainly we don't know of any UH in
(33:02):
the NFL. So I think that's how he could really
change the face of the league and you start, uh,
that's what we saw in the NBA, and and I
just think that that could be a way to continue
the social justice reform that they're looking for in an
even more significant way. I love what Malcolm Jenkins and
some of the players are doning with the Players Coalition UH,
(33:22):
and I think you just see ways to to continue
that furthering of social justice reform in terms of the
NFL and in terms of societally, how jay Z can
make an impact. So, I know it's difficult topic to
you look at it from a different a couple of
different let me just say one one thing before of
course change topics and the beginning, I kind of said, hey,
(33:43):
it's kind of line in his pockets, jay Z. And
sometimes but then you know, you bring up a good
point because if he gives thoughts out as a minority
owner then turns into a majority owner. I don't know
what the process is when a new ownership is brought
before the NFL, but if jay Z is there, let's say,
in in a in a meeting with with the other
(34:04):
NFL owners and he notices some on the handlingness going
on when they try to, you know, shy away from
letting h a black ownership group take over a team
that maybe he could help in that way, you know,
and to a broader kind of like building on what
you had said, I think any time any time an
(34:28):
ownership group or any kind of group becomes more diverse,
it's helpful. Yeah, different pepoints are going to help take
the league. The NFL isn't struggling. Obviously, Roger Goodell is
trying to take it to a billion dollar league and away.
In which you can do that is to incorporate more people,
(34:48):
incorporate more. You're not gonna you're not gonna diversify your
fan base if you're not diversifying the people to work
for you or work with you. Major League Baseball learned
from this, right they certainly, you know, right, right? I
mean they need to build their popularity and maybe this
(35:08):
could they could learn a lesson from this. Major League
Baseball is so bad at promoting their own players that
it's been going It's been going on for forty years.
I think there's animosity between the players Association and the
owners that I don't even know what can solve it,
but they they can't promote a player has to save
(35:29):
their lives. Mike Trout could deliver with pizza to a
hundred million homes in the US and they wouldn't know
who he was. That's a fact. You're right, we're gonna
come back. We're gonna close it out with a good
article for Dave Us Maddock on players whom not to draft.
They'll come back for the final segment a weekend Fantasy
(35:50):
update after this from the NFL to the NBA. Daily

(36:42):
A final segment for us, if we can Fantasy update,
it's gonna be Cam Steward at George Kurtz after this, Oh,
you're you're sticking with Camp Camp? Yeah? Camp Curtis bouncing
on the h Curtis uson on that big slide in
his backyard. Well, hopefully the static that's been in your ears,
(37:05):
uh disappears after I check out of here. I've been
doing the show from Dallas today, so thank you all
for listening this morning. Talked a lot about it, a
lot of different topics. It's obviously football season for us. Yeah, apparently. Uh,
I don't know. I tested this yesterday. It is fine,
and I hope you guys can't hear any static, but
it's it sounds like a lawnmowker is going off in
(37:27):
my ears during the show. So if I sound a
bit shouty, that's the reason I sound sound shouty. So Joe,
uh want to close it out by talking about it.
Davis Maddock article, which you can find in the Rhodo
Experts um or rather the NFL three sixty five package
on Rhodo Experts dot com, is the nineteen Fantasy football
(37:47):
do not draft list. So I'll just pick a few
players out here. Um, he's got Russell Wilson and Andrew
Luck at the quarterback position. Let me talk about Russell
Wilson's uh quote. But Russell Wilson has finished as a
top twelve fantasy quarterback every season of his career. That's
(38:08):
what the naysayers will be saying. But Davis thinks that
this is not the year that his ADP matches up
with his valuation. It's always propped up Wilson's fantasy point
scoring was his ability to gain points through rushing. But
Brian Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator. Wilson has never rushed less.
The Seahawks will run heaviest team in the NFL season
(38:29):
other than the Baltimore Ravens, and Wilson ran the all
a career low sixty seven times in sixteen games. I
think that's very telling as well. He's a's thirty one season,
same offensive coordinator. No reason to suggest that his rushing
total is going to increase. Did the In fact, because
the Seahawks throw the ball so infrequently, he loses his
chance to scramble, and his fantasy point totals were propped
(38:51):
up by an absurd eight point two percent touchdown rate
above his career average of six point zero percent. I'm
with him. I'm out on Russell Wilson this year. I
thought that thirty five touchdown to seven interception ratio at
the rate at which they threw was amazing play by him,
but also unsustainable. Yeah, I mean, look, and he's also
(39:17):
lost uh Doug Baldwin the season two. That has to
be taken into consideration. Obviously, Tyler Locket gets a bump up,
and when you look at his fantasy points per game
average according to Fantasy Football Today, he was sixtint nine
fantasy points per game last season. I think it's amazing
(39:38):
that he hasn't spent more time injured. The fact that
you know, with the that's been amazing behind I agree,
pretty amazing. Um, he's the tenth quarterback on the board
right now, an ffc ADP. I'm passing. He's around guys like, yes, yeah,
he's around guys like Jamis Winston and Cam Newton and
(39:59):
Kyle Murray, Ben roeth Is. Actually, let me let me
adjust this. This is way off because I want to
do just the last couple of weeks. Um, Andrew Luck
sliding a little bit. There you go. So Russell Wilson
his thirteenth off the board here right behind Jamis and Cam,
right in front of Ben Roethlisberger and Phil Rivers. I
actually feel comfortable with all four of those guys before
(40:20):
Russell Wilson. Yeah, and I'm surprised to him myself say this,
but uh, I think of that group, I think i'd
go Jamis Jamis Winston. You know I probably won't, but
I understand why you would. Yeah, I understand why you
think Ben is always a solid, solid pick. Was Cam
(40:43):
Newton in that group that you just mentioned? See, I'm
so I'm afraid of him. I don't know about you,
but are you are you concerned? Because he's getting a
lot of love lately. I hear a lot of people
talking him up, believing that that whole is a coming
out of that camp, a lot coming out of the camp.
His arm is better, Curtis Samuel is great. We already
(41:05):
know about McCaffrey. I just I don't know if the
Panthers are gonna be that great. I just don't know
if they're gonna be that great. Like, do you think
they they can challenge through the division in the NFC South.
It's gonna be a tough climb. Gonna be a tough climb. Yeah,
(41:25):
they're they're looking at their schedule there. They host the
Rams and Bucks to start, then at Arizona at Houston,
than host in Jacksonville, and at Tampa. They get Tampa
out of the way in the first six weeks. That
and the Tampa game is actually not at Tampa, that's
in London, So you got that London game. Then they're
(41:46):
at the Niners, Tennessee at green Bay, host of Falcons
at New Orleans, hosted Washington at Atlanta, host Seattle at
Indianapolis host New Orleans. That's weird one, two, three, four
or five. They have odd schedule. They're perfectly alternated in
road and home games. In their last ten games. It's
away home, away, home, away, home, away, home, away home.
(42:08):
So um so they're not gonna be away from home
for any stretch of time, which can be a good
thing potentially for them. But I don't know. I like
Atlanta more than I like I like Atlanta New Orleans
more than I like Carolina. But anyway, I understand to
(42:28):
being nervous. Yeah, so let me move over to all right,
Derrick Henry. I already have a share of Derrick Henry. Uh.
He's been in the NFL for three seasons. Over those
three seasons, you've been able to play in forty seven
of a possible forty eight games in a two playoff contests.
So over the course of all those games, he has
fifty regular season targets and six playoff targets. And there
(42:51):
are only four players to start their career with over
five hundred carries in less than fifty targets in the
last twenty years. Derrick Henry, Ron Daane Beanie Wells, Stephen Ridley,
so all of three of those other guys vanished from
the fantasy football landscape after brief periods of relevance. This
is all according to Davis Mattick again our roto experts
(43:13):
dot com. Uh, and they were replaced by other players
are more versatile or just better altogether. Um. They're projected
for eight wins by Vegas. He shares the backfield with
another player who generated over two hundred touches in the
last two seasons. That's Dean Lewis. Obviously, Dana Lewis is
going crazy late. By the way, he might be his
(43:34):
weird value in drafts only because people have kind of
forgotten about him. Um. So from that perspective, he doesn't
like Derrick Henry thinks he's a one trick pony, and
this team may not be very good. I can't really
disagree on with on those fronts. I just I do
trust Mike Rabel as a head coach. I just don't
know how this is gonna work out for them offensively
(43:56):
with Mariota. The consensus is that Mariota this is gonna
be a last season as a starter in the NFL,
and that this team will miss the playoffs, and it's
in a tough division and they'll move on. But I
just wonder if what about the speculation that's Tannehill might
get some starts. I think he will if Mariota plays badly,
(44:16):
I think they don't have They're not committed to Mariota anymore.
The only way they get committed to Mariota is Mariotta
plays great and they extend him. That's right, it's a
fifty year option. That money is all paid. And if
they are a middling team and Mariota is playing middling
football and they think Tannehill can get them over the
(44:38):
hump to the playoffs. Look, this team. Everything went wrong
for this team last year year, I thought, and they
went nine and seven. I've been I'm gained a reputation
as a being a Titans truther. I'm not really that
this year. But I'm just saying the team is talented.
They just paid their safety the most money in the
history of the NFL for safety. They have talented guys.
(45:00):
The backfield together is fairly talented. Corey Davis, they drafted A. J. Brown,
They have Dylanny Walker coming back from injury. If Mariotta
plays a good brand of football, you know, nine and seven,
ten and six isn't out of the question. Their defense
is pretty good, but uh so that's where're Derrick Henry. Yes,
(45:20):
it's built around their run game. That's really the your
biggest selling point as far as I'm concerned. But Taylor Lawan,
their left tackle, is suspended four games because of a
p d UH suspension. Osten was the he He had
a tearful apology to fans and said he didn't know
it was in the supplement that he was taking. But
(45:41):
you know, I've read an article earlier this week, even
the Golden Tate thing. It sounds entirely plausible what Golden
Tate explained. But at the same time, most people are
rolling their eyes saying, why didn't you check beforehand? Why
did you start taking something that you didn't know what
was in it? And I think it's frankly, the only
(46:02):
approach that the NFL can take. You've been coached many times,
don't start taking supplements until you get it tested. Don't
start taking and then say, wait, let me check. It's
easier for them to have a bright line test to
just say just check beforehand. Yeah, the NFL buylines clearly
say you are responsible for what you put in your body, right, Yeah,
(46:25):
no question. Derrick Henry, the Derrick Henry, the tent running
back off the board behind guys like Marlon Mack and
Josh Jacobs, in front of guys like Mark Ingram and
David Montgomery, who Davis also has on the do not
draft list. He does not want people drafting David Montgomery. Uh,
he's being drafted in that dreaded running back zones. He
calls it with Henry, Leonard Fournetta, Josh Jacobs. Um. Ironically
(46:47):
the guy feel most comfortable with that, with the Derrick Henry,
David Montgomery, Leonard Fournette, Josh Jacobs is now Leonard four
net you. Yeah, you believe that group out of his
life and that if I believe him, not entirely, but
I think, I think if the Jaguars are going to
(47:09):
be any good, it's because of him. M hmm. I
think the Titans have other guys that they can get
the ball too, uh. And the Raiders have plenty of
other guys that they can get the ball too. If
those two aren't playing well. The Jaguars they've got Leonard
Fournette and DD Westbrook. That's who they've got. And I
(47:34):
just think if Leonard Fournette stays healthy, he'll touch the
ball three hundred times, and there's ifs obviously associated with it.
And if he's crazy and it gets into fights and
gets suspended, what do you want to do? I I
don't know him personally. It was a one time incident.
There's been other stuff. But you know, we're talking about
risk associated with all players. So of that group, Fournet
(47:55):
is a guy like the most. So yes, it has
been so far. Yeah, uh, he's gonna be anyway. Montgomery
is gonna be splitting the backfield with Tarik Cohn at
the third most targets for the Bears last season. Mike
Davis dave us to a little bit. That's right. Mike
Davis has totally forgotten about in these discussions. And for
Montgomery to justify his current ADP, as Davis says, Davis
(48:17):
would basically not have to play at all, or Tarik's
Cohen's role would have to dramatically reduce, and that's not
going to happen. So just be careful about David Montgomery.
I mean, people are high on him because he's a
shiny new toy, but this offense isn't as good as
he suspect, and there's other players competing for those touches.
Uh A J. Green, He's got Dante Pettis, He's got
(48:38):
zach Ertz, Eric Ebron. So let's talk. We only got
a couple of minutes left. Let's talk about Dante Pettis.
Here's what Davis says after being benched down the stretch
last year. Reports or that Marquis Goodwin is locked in
as the starting split end in the Shanahan offense in
San Francisco. In regards to Pettis, we have heard everything
from locked in to starting to fighting for plenty of
(49:00):
time with Kendrick Bourne. The team directed Jalen Herd and
Deebo Samuel in premium rounds in the NFL draft and
brought in better than Jordan Matthews as well. None of
this is to mention the fact that George Kittles the
team's primary option of the passing game and is not
going to concede that role. There's basically no way that
Pettis is a B A DP can be considered palatable
when you consider all the players on the team they're
(49:22):
going to be getting this fall. So he's not suggesting
that there's no value it's just that in the sixth, seventh,
eighth round, we've seen him go. Pettis is too expensive. Yeah,
and I'm looking at who goes uh right after him.
I mean, would I rather have Dante Pettis or Robbie Anderson?
For me, it would be Robbie Anderson. See and and yeah,
(49:45):
Corey Davis. You know, Corey Davis is all the talent
of the world, and you can have all the talent
in the world get it done on the field. And
we know how much the Titans love to run the ball.
So that's a tough one between Pettis and Davis, but
definitely Robbie Anderson. I take Davis only because I think
he's a better player. Mm hmm. And I don't think
(50:07):
Pettis is without value, but I think Davis. You have
to consider the optimal situation. So it's frankly, neither of
their situations are optimal because the passing offenses aren't particularly good.
But in the optimal scenario, do you think Corey Davis
would have the chance to be a breakout wide receiver
or Dante Pettis. We've seen a couple of spectacular things
(50:29):
out of Davis. We haven't really seen that from Pettis
yet right and uh, Davis Mannock when he talks about Kittle,
He's right. Kittle is the number one guy in that
in that passing offense. So you know there really is
no number one guy yet in Tennessee, and Davis has
the skill set to be that guy. Yeah, it's really
(50:52):
the passing offense in Tennessee. If it were to work
this year, would be Walker coming back and being but
he's in tight end coming off a major injury. It
would be Davis, and it would be Dion Lewis with
a shot for a J. Brown rookie to make an
impact somewhere along the line. But a J. Brown isn't
(51:13):
a replacement to Corey Davis. He's a compliment to Corey Davis.
They've been working with Taj Sharp and Taywan Taylor for
the last couple of years and those guys haven't done
anything you talk about doing on the field. They don't
do anything. So from that standpoint, I'd rather have Davis
than Pettis, even though I understand how run heavy the Titans. Maybe,
so let me try to get to one more here
(51:34):
on the do not draft list and sack arts, which
is shocking to me, but he said it. Need to
make this point clear. This is specifically for weekly management leagues.
In best ball leagues, we still think that Earth represents
a fear value because of his spiked weeks in addition
to his week week consistency. However, in weekly management leagues,
he and Hunter, Henry Slash, O J. Howard Slash, Evan
(51:55):
Ingram are all much closer than Earth's is. To George
Kittle and Travis Kelsey. It's fair with the additions to
Sean Jackson j j R. Takeing Whiteside and resigning of
Darren Sprowls, the passing tree in Philadelphia really opened back up.
So let's just I'll cap it there so you can comment.
Do you think with the addition of all those guys
Arg's his targets market share comes down and it flattens
(52:18):
out his ability to be sectacular. I think he's an
excellent NFL player, But in terms of how Davis is projecting,
I think it's fair to suggest that Earth's targets won't
go up at all from last year and they could regress. Yeah.
I'm with you and Davis on this point, and we
even touched upon it briefly last week with with George
(52:41):
Curs you and I, uh where you know? I think
Kurtz was involved in the draft where he uh the
Kittle went before Earth's and look, Kittle is the number
one young in San Francisco. A lot of different mouths
to feed in that passing game in Philadelphia, and then
you have those breakout games from Dallas guard it as well,
so I can understand Davids take on this. Earth's had
(53:04):
a hundred fifty six targets last year. Agail Or played
sixteen games at nineties seven out. Sean Jeffrey played thirteen
games in the two. You throw Dosan Jackson in the
mix there, his targets could get up there as well,
so I understand where he's coming from. I think it
Earth's targets probably go down from a year ago. I
(53:25):
still probably like him a little bit more than Davis does,
but do you have to understand where it's coming from.
I suggest you go to Rhodo Experts and read that
article in the NFL three six five Fantasy Football package.
So on behalf of Joe Galina, my co host, and
Sean Angel, my producer. I appreciate you listening to Weekend
Fantasy update shows on next Camp Stewart a weekend wait
(53:46):
for just
